The Original Hot Dog Factory Review - Downtown Atlanta - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"When you’re downtown, hit The Original Hot Dog Factory for their unmatched selection of more than 25 varieties—plus a build-your-own option. When we want to pretend we’re on an episode of Hot Ones, we snag the Fire Dog with jalapeños, sport peppers, and Flamin’ Hot Cheetos all doused with hot sauce. But the classics are solid, too. There are mostly GSU students inside at the bar or outside on the turfed patio, but we don’t mind a little Panther pride nor that the dogs are slightly overcooked since they are covered with enough toppings to make you forget the inconvenience." - Juli Horsford

Google
The cashier was super nice and friendly. While we looked at the menu he gave a couple would found this location via YouTube he recommended great options. This was my first time so I tried the street polish. I’m not a mustard fan but I didn’t want to not try it for what it was. Next time I will try something different. Over all it was a nice location and great servers.

Stopped by here for a bite to eat. The inside feels pretty nice. My order was taken at the counter, and the food came out fairly quickly. Plenty of food options to get in either hot dog, or burger. The food tasted pretty good! I'm sure I'll be back to give other dog options a try

How great can a Hot Dog joint be? Is the Grand Canyon just a Canyon? Are the Great Pyramids just pyramids? The Original Hot Dog Factory on Spring Road is Great! Your food is cooked to order and not some steamed dog. There is plenty of seating inside. The service at the counter is friendly and helpful if you cannot decide on one of over 26 different hot dogs. We were there for lunch and the place was busy with to go orders but not too busy to chat and see how we were doing. The Chicago Dog was spot on. The peppers, relish, celery salt were true to the style but the actual hot dog is the star. An All Beef Hot Dog cooked perfectly. The fries were cooked just right and not over salted like you get at the fast food joints. They have the usual condiments with seasoned salt as well. I need another 25 trips to work my way around the menu. I’ll see you there hopefully. Highly recommended!!

Google
When I ate here the food was okay the atmosphere and design is really pretty but the hot dog I had supposed to be lump crab it really wasn't crab at all I think it was shreds of imitation crab and it was just a sprinkle on the top it wasn't a lot at all you cant even see it under the sauce and I paid an extra $4 for that. The Oreo Donuts or whatever they are called was okay it could have been cooked a little lighter but they were okay with the wings were pretty good but the customer service was very nice. But i was really just disappointed with the crab

This was my first time at The Original Hot Dog Factory and it was bomb! I warm welcome and great customer service from Michael. I ordered the California baby dog with onion rings and blue raspberry drink. Everything was delicious!

Google
Good food, great service. Hotdog was juicy, fries great. Has a blue lemonade, very sweet but good. Overall great service. They went above and beyond! (Pictured: Carolina Dog, Fries and Blue Lemonade)

Google
The Hotdog Factory caught my eye as I drove by from out of town. Minutes later we came back to try it out. The guy at the register was very welcoming and helpful. Cool vibe! The restaurant decor is very retro in black and white. Nice quaint place. Oh...the customers were coming in left and right. Quite the busy place but service is fast! I ordered the Atlanta XL Foot Long Hotdog and my friend ordered the Chicago-style Hotdog. We got Fried Oreos too. Yummy! These were some of the most beautiful presented and tasting hotdogs! I loved that the hotdog bun was not like your typical bun. Great overall dining experience. We will definitely be back!

Google
The hot dogs were absolutely delicious. They have a nice variety of really inventive dogs. I went with the Caolina slaw dog and the Detriot Coney. The slaw on the dog was creamy and crunchy, it tied the entire dog very nicely. My SO had the Taco dog sans guac, Boston dog and chili cheese fries. The bacon on top of the Boston dig was so crispy and savory. The fries were not my favorite but everything else was incredible. Aside from the food the place was quaint and pretty bare bones with a few tables and bar stools, super clean and family friendly atmosphere. Customer service was above and beyond, Michael was super polite, excited about explaining or suggesting anything on the menu!

Yelp
The wait time was minimal, food delicious and the staff was very friendly. My mom ordered the Detroit Coney Dog with fries and I had the Bratwurst Dog with sweet potato fries. The funnel cake sticks are definitely a must have when I co

Yelp
Food: I am disappointed...I had a taste for these loaded fries however, they have a sweet taste to them. Not sure if it's the orange sauce that sweet or what...but, I don't like it. I guess I'll have to stick to the Fairburn location cause these taste nothing like theirs. Man I wish they were open last night when went so, I could have avoided this mistake. What a waste ; -( Service:.Friendly guy thin guy that took my order. The strawberry lemonade was delicious. Ambiance: It was empty when I arrived...I almost did not go in since if it was t for the OPEN sign...I would if not attempted to get out & go in because, the guy was mopping. So I thought they were actually closed at 7:32pm when I arrived. Now I'll have to still to the other location

Yelp
What a rare find! Here is a place where you can get a great lunch for two and pay less than $20. What?!! The menu is fun and these hotdogs come packed with toppings. My favorite is the taco hotdog- with fresh jalapeños, guacamole, and shredded taco shell on top: yummy! It is a cute little spot with great food and great service. We'll be back!

John L.

Yelp
I was there at 1:10 pm so the lunch rush was over and there was no one in line. But 7 people (5 separate orders) were waiting a LONG time for food...and it was so weird to see no tables eating. My one hot dog and a coke took over 20 minutes!!! They let me pay for a soft drink to find that 5 of 8 options were "out." So they gave me a diet PEPSI that was expired by a month. The dog was good but this place is REAL Tired!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Really good hot dogs. Live the variety of toppings. Super friendly staff. Happy we found it.

Yelp
I order delivery from here a while ago. It was good but I kinda forgot about it. Well it's on my radar now! Soo good! Fast service and clean dining room.

Yelp
This place is a gem as far as hot dogs are concerned. They have burgers on the menu but we only tried the hot dogs. Sweet potato fries and onion rings were delicious. The Augusta dog comes with pimento cheese, I do wish there was a little more, since it was wrapped in bacon it made it all better. Spouse said the Chicago Dog was delicious. MIL had a slaw dog with fries and liked it. She did like my sweet potato fries better though. Haa FIL had a plain dog and liked it. Sweet Tea meets my Georgian seal of approval. If I had to make one positive criticism it would be to clean up a little around the window sill. There was some dead moths and dust and such in the window sill so it looked yucky.
google avatar

Yelp
Great taste! I had The opportunity totry a new kind of Barq cream soda -orange flavored! It tasted like a cream-sickle! Delicious! The hot dog was grilled with love crab on top great combination would love to do it again

Kay K.

Yelp
I ordered a corn dog and this is what I got. This is unacceptable!! I could not wait for them to make another one. Why would they send this out
google avatar

Yelp
My hot dog was very yummy. I had a hot dog with mustard only. I will definitely return!!! Service was fast too.

Yelp
They are never open according to their hours of operation. I just went to the location and it is 7:00 p.m. they are closed (lights out and doors locked ) The sign on the door says open until 8 p.m. Also, online the closing time is listed as being 8 p.m. This is the second time I've had this experience.

Des M.

Yelp
Came at 6:20pm I assumed since the sign was on it would be open? Walked in and the guy said the kitchen was closed. I understand everyone is trying to go home on a Saturday afternoon but I thought customers come first.

Yelp
I visited for a Yelp Elite event - so my hot dog was free, full disclosure. This is a counter service restaurant, and the young woman at the register was really so friendly. She deserves 5 stars. I love a good hot dog and am glad more places are opening around Atlanta that feature them. I went with the Chicago style dog with a side of onion rings. The onion rings were decent, in taste and serving size - I know some past reviews noted issues but perhaps they've been addressed. As others have mentioned, the floors are filthy. So sticky that your feet and all of the furniture stick to them. I thought I had stepped in gum. The place has an unfortunate, very unclean feel to it. This really added to me previously mentioned feeling of a "lack of freshness " I'm not sure if I'll be back, despite originally being pretty excited to discover a new place for hot dogs.

Millie W.

Yelp
Wow...hadn't been here in a while...are they about to shut down?! Never had good ambiance but it really seemed lacking now. Both hotdogs were terrible...one was literally cold - Corndog seemed to have been microwaved....used to be the best!!! Chips were stale. Super bummed.
google avatar

Yelp
I had the polish dog and it was great. My boyfriend had the Chicago dog and it was good going down but it came up later.
google avatar

Samantha L.

Yelp
I never ate here before and now my eyes are opened up to new suggestions for food! I like plain hot dogs so I had the All American hot dog, which is a classic beef hotdog topped with ketchup, mustard, relish and onions. I chose to have the relish on the side because I wasn't too sure about it. Overall, the cashier was super friendly although he did not know about the Yelp event, but with one call, 5 minutes later, he took our orders. I will definitely go back for a hot dog! Thank you!
google avatar

Daniel L.

Yelp
I stopped by the Smyrna location for my first time. My wife and I tried the all American and Chicago style hot dogs. The service was quick, friendly and we chatted about the Atlanta Braves game we were about to go to. Our order came out fast and it was really good. I enjoyed the sport peppers on my Chicago dog and my wife enjoyed hers. The only negative was that our dogs were loaded with goodies so it made them a little messy, but that's all part of it. There's plenty of parking and if you don't want to eat there, they were doing a lot of carry out orders. Overall, it was a good, quick meal.
google avatar

Nyla V.

Yelp
It was giving very MID. I got a BLT hotdog and I've been looking for a good hotdog place... this one it. The hot dog didn't really have any flavor, was is turkey? Idk it was definitely the cheap hot dogs. And I couldn't taste the bacon either I think it was under cooked. Two slivers on tomato and a lil bit of romaine sprinkled on top for $7 I bet it only cost $2.50 to make. I felt their menu was overpriced and the next time I want a hot dog I'll just make one at home. At least I know it will be the good hotdogs.

Bryce Y.

Yelp
Hot dog was still raw in the center and 10 dollars too expensive. This place is not worth it at all

Yelp
I stop here often. Never had an issue with the food. Always pretty good. But I will say, this guy, in my check in photo, has absolutely no personality. He doesn't speak up. Literally and figuratively. Can't hear him. He seems to never remember the customers orders. Meaning you just ordered and he asks the person basically if it's there's "with his eyes". I've seen this happen numerous times and happening as I type. Mix ups, things of that nature. Happened to me one time before. Me and 2 other people. Never got my food. And he's literally standing there. I had to go ask what happened. Even tho it was a technical issue. You would think he would say let me check on your order. But no lol. Same thing is happening now. He just seems to lack confidence and personality. I dread seeing him at the register. Miss the short guy. He actually remembered customers and orders and made the experience an actual experience.

Freddye J.

Yelp
As soon as I walked in, I walked into sticky spots on the floor, sticky enough for me to struggle to lift my feet. I expected the person behind the counter, who saw me struggling, to say something about the floor but he just asked for my order. When I sat down to await on my food, it was not clean at all. When I got my food, the box felt very light. I checked it and discovered the crinkle cut fries I loved so much were now shoestrings. On the ride home, the aroma of the food made me nauseated. I tried my best to think the nausea was all in my head, but it was not. Instead of throwing it away, I ate it and am now very ill abdominally speaking. Not going back.

Yelp
The location of this place would have never ended up on my radar because I barely come downtown but it's in a perfect spot right next to a parking lot. They have indoor and outdoor seating with games, live dj, strong drinks and good hookah! The food was good and the service was quick! Definitely would recommend!
google avatar

Spencer J.

Yelp
If you are a fan of hot dog, I would suggest this small business. Plenty of hot dogs to choose from as well you can make any burger with those same ingredients. Pretty quick on the turnaround although it was empty when I went. The service was a little draining but I purchased the food to-go so I wasn't worried. All in all? I would give it a try if you are located near by.

Sean N.

Yelp
Drove 20 miles to get there, just for you all to say you're closed.... At 7:45! But the store close at 8 ??? And 2 more customers were turned away, after me.......... Honor your hours!!!! Good food, trash service ......... Smyrna, GA Spring St.

Marie D.

Yelp
REAL HOTDOGS!!!! I am used to the hotdogs in NYC. They are fantastic. I've lived in the south now for more than 24 years. I'd yet to come across a hotdog similar enough to the north. Then, I recently found The Original Hotdog Factory In Fairburn, GA where I live. They are great!! And they have Sauerkraut and spicy brown mustard--a real NYC hotdog. In addition, their other food is excellent, as well and I love the cole slaw. FINALLY. I spoke to the owner and thanked him. Now it's up to all of us to keep their business afloat. Please support this establishment and see for yourself!!!

Yelp
Just alright! I was not blown away by the taste of the food or the atmosphere, but this is a nice spot to grab a quick bite to eat for lunch. The staff is great and very friendly. They are able and willing to help you select your food from the wide array of hot dogs on the menu. The restaurant itself is not the best, but hey, it's a hot dog joint. Maybe my expectations were just too high. The floor was sticky and the TVs are very small in the front and back corners of the place. It was almost like they discouraged you from dining in - probably why the majority of individuals that came in while I dined ordered take-out. The food was good, but I was expecting more, especially for the price I paid. Their prices definitely went up vs. the current photos for this location (as has almost every restaurant nowadays). I just can't see myself spending $6 - $9 per hot dog ever again. I had the Detroit Coney, the Street Polish Dog and the Beer Battered Onion Rings. The coney was average at best, with not much flavor in the factory chili. The polish sausage on the Polish was the best part of my meal. It was very flavorful and the peppers topped it off well. The onion rings were soggy and did not offer much flavor. The food comes out very quick after ordering and they offer a range of toppings if you would like to add to your hot dog.

Craig K.

Yelp
Hot dogs are just ok.. not impressed.. The NYer is no where near as good as the street dog vendors
google avatar

Donna R.

Yelp
I had not eaten here for a couple years and decided to pop in for a dog and fries. What happened? The "hand cut" fries are no longer and tasted just like they came out of a giant freezer bag. The hot dog bun was cold, not warmed or steamed and soft (they even have this at QT! ) The seat that I picked to sit in was covered with dry, sticky soda residue (which i cleaned up myself.) The only tasty part of this meal was the actual hot dog itself. In summary, the magic is lost here.
google avatar

Dyan R.

Yelp
Let's start with appearance. The store didn't look open and the front of the store was dirty. My shoes kept sticking to the floor. The woman out front was on her phone the whole time I was there. She took my order but she had that phone the whole time. She didn't wear a mask. I ordered a chili cheese dog with onion rings. It was just under $10. The chili was sweet (like with sugar) and I have never had sweet chili before and exactly 4 onion rings. Now the hot dog was not a foot long or anything. One of the other guests bought a drink that was moldy. She got another drink easily.
google avatar

LaShonda H.

Yelp
Ooooh so good! I'm glad I got a chance to try this. When I walked in on Saturday, it was pretty empty. The cashier quickly took my order, the Detroit All Beef Dog with chili, with slaw added, and I made it a combo. My order came up in about 5 minutes. I watched a little tv while I was waiting. They offer quite a few sauces like Cholula, mustard, ketchup, etc. for you to add to your dog. I only took ketchup for my fries. Everything was hot and fresh, even 15 minutes after I got home! Omg the hot dog was so juicy and had such a good flavor. The coleslaw, the chili, the onions...I'm about to head back there now. LOL! The fries had some type of seasoning on them, so hot and crisp! I truly enjoyed my meal here, only $6 and some change for the combo. I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
First time visitor. Mike at the register was very kind. I would definitely return. I didn't sit in bc of Covid but it looked basic. Nothing fancy nor exceptionally spotless, but I wasn't looking for 5. I'm a lover of hot dogs, so I wanted options. I had the street polish dog with fries and the the mystery juice. My son had the Detroit dog wort the chili slaw. He's 6 and loved it.
google avatar

Yelp
My original hot dog was less than impressive, so I got surgery in my special place, and now look. Well, I mean, you can't literally look, but anyway. And this original hot dog, also, is less than impressive. Their Chicago dog a little elaborate and not as good as the others in town (the good ones, rather - and there are a good half dozen of those), so it's not one of the best I tried in the Atlanta region, but it's passable. Not quite as authentic and a little bit more expensive, and while it was bigger it didn't taste better - in fact it was lacking something. Service was really nice on the other hand although people pushed in front of me in line to try and get served before me which I didn't appreciate.
google avatar

Yelp
This place hit the spot. Had me the Coney Dog and Chili Cheese Fries. I'm a super big fan of chili due to growing up in Los Angeles and eating all the time at the Famous Tommy's Burgers. I would def give this spot five stars, but, the chili was a tiny bit on the sweet side. Yeah I know, that can be subjective or maybe my taste buddies are to tuned up. Regardless it was good and really wanna try all the hot dog varieties they have to try. Food 4.5 Location 5 Service 5 Score 93% : A

Yelp
I've been wanting to come here and finally got around to it today. It's a small spot that gets full fast. Most people were ordering to go orders but if you're in a rush this isn't the place for you. Everything is cooked to order and just off of observing it can be anywhere from 10-30 min wait depending on how packed they are and what you order. It is family friendly I had trouble finding the high chairs for my daughter but they're all stacked in the back by the restrooms. I'd highly recommend anything on the menu my personal favorite is the Carolina dog I love coleslaw and chili and this was perfect for me.
google avatar

Kristopher W.

Yelp
I decided to give this spot a try for a quick lunch bite. I pass by this spot all the time and know that it is a black owned business so I definitely wanted to support. I decided to order via Grubhub and pick up myself. When I arrived they had my order ready and the cashier gave great customer service! Very welcoming! I got the Chicago and the Jamaican Jerk dogs. Both were flavorful and were topped with plenty of toppings. The Jamaican Jerk dog did have a little kick to it but I like spicy food. I would be interested in trying their other hot dogs and food items. Glad I finally decided to try them. I will be back.

Savi D.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place for awhile now and in Wednesday I did just that. First and far most the cashier was very nice. I ordered the Boston dog which came with baked beans and bacon on top. I asked them to remove the onions ( not my favs). For less than 8.00 I got fries, hot dog and a drink. The hot dog was good. I would go back again. Probably no time soon, but eventually. If you're in the area Smyrna go check them Out
google avatar

Ash C.

Yelp
I've stopped by this location a couple times and have had a nice experience each time. Mike at the register is always very welcoming and pleasant. I've tried the Memphis dog, Chicago dog and Detroit Coney. They were all good. I prefer this location over the other because of the customer service.
google avatar

Yelp
Decided to take the kids out for hot dogs and I'm not a hot dog eater....BUT....these hot dogs were GOOD!!!!! The is chic restaurant with quick service. Definitely will return!!! And the prices are good! You definitely will get your money's worth!

Yelp
Okay we came here because it was in the area and it was Juneteenth. This location is a lot smaller than the one in Atlanta. We were greeted upon entering and given a huge smile. I loved the hospitality. Upon entering, I did notice that the place needed to be swept. There was one person up front and two in the back. Maybe they were short staffed. Either way they should keep the dining room tidy. We ordered 2 corn dogs, plain wings, and a Hawaiian dog. I believe it was carryout only. We did not plan on dining in though. There were no complaints on the food. The kids were happy and I enjoyed the Hawaiian dog.

Yelp
First, I want to say that the staff was really friendly. But the rest was not so great. We walked in and it was pretty dirty. The floor was so sticky, you could feel resistance when you picked up your feet to walk. Later, when I sat at the table, the chair felt stuck to the ground. Anyway, we ordered our food and the guys in the kitchen were nice enough to come out and ask me a question about my order to make sure they got it right, which was nice. When I went to get my drink at the Freestyle machine, it ran out of Fanta Zero halfway through filling up my cup. It was also out of all of the Dr. Pepper products. We got our food and it was all just ok. The sweet potato fries were really good but the regular fries tasted like they had freezer burn. My husband liked the two dogs he got and my Martha's Vineyard one was pretty good too. For 3 dogs, fries and 2 drinks it was $28. Kind of pricey for "not that awesome" food. I don't think I will be back and wouldn't recommend, at least not this location.

Denise B.

Yelp
The food was just ok. Unfortunately I was looking for something more spectacular from the reviews by Porsha Williams. The owner is the father of her child. So I chose to support them both. I just was not that impressed unfortunately. I went several times and tried different hot dog combinations and each time the same results.
google avatar

Stuart M.

Yelp
I was excited to see a new hot dog joint open in Douglasville.... I've been jonesing foe a good chicago dog.... Avery got a kids meal with Corn dog nuggets and fries - was very happy with it. The chicago dog.... Well it missed the mark. The dog itself was not a Vienna beef, the dog was close but not a chicago dog. The onion rings were excellent . The restaurant is new and really needs some processes to serve much faster .!waiting more than 20 minutes for a hot dog and onion rings is very excessive Il check back in a month and try their wings .... Maybe by then they will have their orders done much faster ....
google avatar

Amirah A.

Yelp
The Real Housewives of Atlanta brought me here. Porsha you better keep Dennis girl lol. The cashier greeted us as soon as we walked in. He asked if this was our first time here and offered dogs to try. My best friend got the L. A. Dog and I tried the Memphis Dog. Our food came out quick and fresh. The fries were piping hot. I could already tell the hot dog was going to be good because the barbecue sauce smelled delicious. I know it's just hot dogs, but I was not disappointed. Best damn hot dog I've had. Right amount of bacon, cheese, and barbecue sauce. It's definitely a spot I wouldn't mind making a regular visit to when I'm in town So I came back. This time I tried the Jamaican jerk chicken dog and my goodness. Another satisfying visit. I can't wait for the Memphis location to open.

Yelp
As someone who recently moved to Smyrna, I felt having The Original Hot Dog Factory was a right of passage, a way to say "I love Smyrna and Hot Dogs" all at once - So, I had to stop in one weekend and now its become a staple in my OTP diet. Located on Spring Street, just about 1.5 to 2 miles from the Battery and sitting at the end of a tiny shopping center is The Original Hot Dog Factory, which should also be known as a place you will get one of the best wieners you have ever had! They are a small joint, seating roughly 30/35 people, including the bar. They did an amazing job with the small space though, as they have tables of 2 and 4 tops, counters lining the perimeter and a small bar area. They are set up as counter service - you walk in, up to the counter, they take your order and then call you when its ready. The kitchen is immediately behind the counter, so the food doesn't travel far from the grill to your table. Service was excellent - The fella behind the counter was quick to greet us, take our order, recommend his favorites and overall was pleasant to deal with. It was cool to see him interact with regulars as well, as he knew multiple people by name. Made the visit quite "homey". Food - Not only do they have hot dogs, but they have other varieties of food including burgers, wings and sandwiches...and desserts (Fried Oreos!). However, I wasn't hear for any of that, so I opted for the Taco Dog, which was an all beef hot do topped with chili, lettuce, tomato, jalapenos, guacamole, onions and tortilla chips - It was absolutely divine! I got it sided with their onion rings, which were good size and fried to perfection. Overall, I am definitely a fan of this place and will certainly be back...many, many times in the future!

Yelp
When I say I love hot dogs. I mean I LOVE hot dogs. I grew up on hot dogs and nothing beats a good chili dog for me. However, I guess I could consider myself a hot dog snob because these hot dogs were just ok. The hot dog was an all beef hot dog and it in itself was great quality but the chili was nothing special and they did not put very much cheese or onion on it for it to be worth $4. My boyfriend had the Chicago dog and he said he bun was great but everything else was just alright. Not to mention, we could not find the health score rating anywhere and the floors were so sticky our shoes and the chairs were stuck to them. I can't STAND walking into a restaurant of any kind and my shoes stick to the floor. Overall, 3 stars because I can get a better hotdog with more toppings from a Quik trip roller. ‍

Yelp
This small hot dog shop is located on Spring Road next to a Dairy Queen in a small shopping plaza. I was greeted by a cheerful cashier when I walked in. He recommended several customer favorites as I had never been there before. I got a New York and Detroit dog with a side of fries to-go. The hot dogs came on white buns with a beverage option. (I wasn't given my cream soda and I walked out without it. Didn't realize I didn't have it till Ingot home.) The food came out fast and was pretty tasty. The hot dogs were beef but nothing special. Kind of wished they were Nathan's or Hebrew National hot dogs. It definitely quenched my hot dog craving!

Yelp
This is my first time, and will not be my last. The only time I've eaten hotdogs from a place that specializes in hotdogs was when I go to New York to the hotdog stand. This place has a variety of different hotdogs. I will be back to sample the others.

Yelp
Detroit gal, reminded me of HOME! Better made chips, Vernor's ginger ale and chili/cheese. I called my order in and it was ready on time. The menu has plenty of options so there's no reason to not find a dog of your liking. I have been trying to get here since they opened and they did not disappoint.
