Best Bars in Savannah, Georgia | Eater Carolinas

"Pinkie Masters, known to locals as Pinkies, is a Savannah legend. This old-school cash-only bar has kept its humble quirky vibe consistent throughout the year including the neon rotating PBR signs, multi-colored string lights, and tastefully tacky decor. Although frequented mostly by the neighbors and community, there are no strangers once entering the bar. Canned beer is the most popular order here." - Barbara Skidmore

14 Best Bars in Savannah

"The Original Pinkie Masters is an old-school, cash-only bar that has stayed consistent throughout the years, right down to the neon PBR signs, multi-colored string lights, and tastefully tacky décor. A great example of not judging a book by its cover, the dive has a real sense of history: Jimmy Carter once stood above it to make a speech. If The Original Pinkie Masters is good enough for a President, it's certainly good enough for the average beer-drinker." - Barbara Skidmore

Google
Stumbled across this iconic and historic dive bar on Saturday. (Thanks to Yelp) It was close to 100’ outside and there was a full bar inside. Cash only. (You can take your drinks to go.) Not food service. No tabs. No outside seating. It does have tons of local flair! Everyone seems to know each other and they were very welcoming to us. We stayed for a while and really enjoyed our visit to Pinky’s.

Google
This place is good. Cash only. Old type vibes. Staff is great. Crowd varies wildly so you never know who’s gonna be here. Check it out if you like beer. Cheap PBR

Google
Take cash and have a great time in one of the best dive bars in Savannah! What a tradition to try in Savannah. We visited the legendary Pinkie Masters. Our bartenders were really funny and had lots of energy.

Jennifer Charles

Google
Pinkie Masters was recommended to us by friends and new friends alike. It is AWESOME. Total throwback, no frills, but Matt the bartender was fabulous, and the atmosphere can‘t be beat.

Dina Shaur

Google
Cool little dive bar. Cash only but they have an atm. Lots of pics and 70s Pabst decor. Jukebox and darts. Chill atmosphere with diverse crowd. David Lee Roth poster. Jimmu Carter came here in the 70s! One of the oldest bars in town. There is some history about the original owner.

Naomi González Kahn

Google
Favorite bar in town. Love this bar. Favorite spot as a new Savannah local. Prices are fair, environment is local and friendly. Love coming here. Highly recommend always. They have to go cups!

Google
We accidentally stumbled into this little local pub! The atmosphere was fantastic, thanks to the locals. Everyone was really friendly to us tourists. One gentleman even shared a story about how President Jimmy Carter once sat on the other side of the bar here. God rest his soul! They have a huge variety of draft beers. The bartender was also very cheerful, which really added to our good mood! The price-quality ratio is excellent! It’s a must-stop during a sightseeing tour of Savannah! It’s good to know that Savannah is one of only three cities in the U.S. where you can drink alcohol on the street, either partially or fully.

Best Dive Bar in town! Great people and jukebox rocks! $2 ponies is hard to beat!

Yelp
Great service. Fun, regular crowd welcoming of visitors. Definitely a PBR (Pabst Blue Ribbon) bar. Small but not crowded.

Yelp
This is my all-time favorite bar. I used to frequent Pinkie's ages ago, left the state for years, and now I'm back again. The drinks are always great, no frills, good prices, and the best juke box around. Nothing has changed but my age! I love Pinky's!

Yelp
BEST dive bar in Savannah!!! My husband and I stopped by here for some drinks while in town for the weekend. Bartenders, Luke and Andrew were awesome. These two are a couple of super cool good ole boys. We enjoyed talking to both of them. Fun spot with great drinks!

Sally S.

Yelp
Loved the fuzzy Palmer! Super small but tons of interesting people and memorabilia. Hubs had a gin and tonic that was a generous pour

Kymberly H.

Yelp
You have to understand the assignment. Local, cash only, lots of old money who like what they like. Order a Negroni if you are adventurous or Frenet if you want to fit in. The local tour companies bring groups through Pinkies on Saturday nights which is brave and hilarious. Come for the vibe, stay for the jukebox. Be sure and play something off the For Jules playlist.

Yelp
A great spot where the locals go. Nice staff - good vibe! I don't think they have food.

E D.

Yelp
Dive bar. It was okay. Cash only. Nice to pop into. A bit dirty as expected. Basic items.

Mallory J.

Yelp
Only take cash but have ATM. Great dive bar, lots of locals. Cool ambiance, dark, old beer memorabilia. If really wanted to be authentic, should let smoke cigs inside for maximum vibage. Super neat juke box, good drinks. A cool spot to grab a beer.
google avatar

Yelp
Five bar in the heart of Savannah! Loved the vibe. It was super busy - so must be a local favorite. It's located in a great spot for the late night ghost tours! Get a drink to go!
google avatar

Yelp
Old school all the way. Cash bar, caring staff, and no frills just a great spot. Cheers!!

Yelp
Just a true classic . A Savannah "must do" .... After you've loosened up .... Great for pre or post adventure ,with strong cocktails & cheap"pony" beers .PBR remains the house favorite although a "Dirty Shirley " Or a Campari & Fernet are common calls ... (Don't crowd the locals , they live here) Do bring your pet ... all the pets ....

Anthony R.

Yelp
Fun place with a host of local characters. I enjoyed the cheap beer and camaraderie. Bring cash, no credit cards allowed. Bartender welcomes you into a crowd of regulars.

Yelp
Welcome Rio, Kima's sister but nicer. Burk saying hello. She's suck a sweet girl, come say hello.

Yelp
Love the vibe of this place and there is always a really interesting crowd here! Drinks are fairly cheap and love the interior design.

Yelp
We visited Savannah in September and ended up here on multiple occasions. Awesome dive bar. Lots of locals. Great stuff on the walls. And bartenders were incredibly friendly. I love dive bars and this place is top 10. Highly, highly recommend.

Jay J.

Yelp
Jules was great! We had a fantastic time! Good wine and good company! An old juke box! So fun!

Yelp
Andrew has been fantastic! Good drinks and great personality! I will def be back when I visit again!

Yelp
Pinkie Masters is my favorite watering hole in Savannah. Unpretentious, it is what it is and it's what the perfect neighborhood bar should be. Lots of seats at the bar, jukebox, plenty of memorabilia on the walls and the coldest beer you can find. There's about 8 beers on draft, a limited sampling of mixed drinks and shots but Pabst Blue Ribbon is king here. You can get it on draft or a tall boy for $3. This is a locals bar with a little sprinkling of tourists stopping by. Best bartenders in town, good conversations and no one is a stranger. Cash only!

Sandra S.

Yelp
The bar pops with the lively, entertaining, bartender Burke. He does bar tricks, beer bottles balance on his shoulders, popping beer caps two at a time always cheerful, makes everyone feel happy and welcome. He's there every other Saturday. Sandra S. 1Sandra S.

Yelp
I don't normally write one star reviews, but Pinkie's was not a pleasant experience. This local bar was recommended to us by a couple who lived next door to the Airbnb we stayed at. They told us it was a nice place that locals like to go to. My group and I decided "Hey why not, let's give it a shot." Little did we know that Asians were not welcome in that bar. As soon as we walked in, a customer turned to us and said "Seems like some of us don't belong here." I just ignored it, but my brother decided to stay outside because the vibe was off. I grab a booth while 2 of my friends go get drinks (they were denied service because the bar was too busy). We then decide to just use the restroom and then leave, but while in line for the restroom another local decided to cut us off and just push their way infront of us in line. I've been to many places and travelled to many countries, but I didn't think that I'd feel the most unwelcome in my own country. I also didn't know that racism was still a thing here in the United States.

Yelp
What a good find! Referred here by several locals, for a place with cheap drinks, no flash, no tourists, and a fun history! Drinks were great, great patrons, and cool vibe. Cash only!

Misha K.

Yelp
Burke makes the place! Has so much fun with him. It is cash only with atm on premises.

Loretta C.

Yelp
Yes! Go! Wonderful place to take a break. We enjoyed a couple of beers and bloody marys although there are many options.

Yelp
Back at my favorite bar....in the world. There's one in Hong Kong I like a lot and one in NYC I'm comfortable but this place is home. Fernet neat please. Want a bitter kick/twist? Ask for a Ferrari...Fernet Campari. Ahhhhhh

Yelp
I looooove an old man bar. I can't stand an over crowded bridge and tunnel weekend madness. Popping into this bar at 4pm in the afternoon on a blazing hot day was the best idea on my first Savannah day. I needed beer and I needed it to be as cold as ice. (singing Foreigner) And then I saw it "the Original Pinkie Masters"! Oh hell yeah! Frosted mugs. You heard me right. Cold beer kept extra chilled with a frosty mug. They are doing old man bar right. Then there was an older clientele all piled up at the horseshoe bar. And they were the sweetest older guys. Buddy was super chatty with me and told me about how he used to come here for drinks in the eighties. It's new owners but the feel is still the same and there are still some original details and I'm not talking the clientele. The frosted PBR's are only $3. This place loves PBR even the merch is PBR design spin off. And I liked that the owner was nice enough to charge my phone for me too. I had great chats with Buddy and I also met Jahla here. She was obsessed with the bourbon lemonade frozen drink. You could even take the drink to go. Yup. Open container laws in Savannah are crazy!?! But hey, I guess it's a way of life in Savannah. Come here for cheap drinks, unpretentious company and to go drinks. The place is small so come early. Loved all the kitsch decor too.

StockMkt M.

Yelp
This is the kind of bar I look for, when traveling. Some would call it a dive bar, because the drinks are cheap. I put it under the category of a "local" bar. It is as unpretentious as you can get. They were able to serve ice-cold Miller ponies (stubbies where I come from) for $2! I rate them 5 out of 5, because the place was fun. I loved the decor and the bartender was fantastic.
google avatar

Jonathan S.

Yelp
This is my go-to bar when I come to Savannah. Drinks were cheap and only cash was accepted. If you're looking for fancy, this isn't your place. If you want a great drink, with interesting decor, stop in.
google avatar

Meg R.

Yelp
Pinkie Masters is a true Savannah staple. It's a great spot to grab a PBR with the locals and find a song on the juke box. Although it's a bit divey, it's definitely a fun place to go! The drinks are cheap, but the bar doesn't accept credit cards. Make sure you bring cash, although there is an ATM on site! There's always a diverse group of people here hanging out at the bar and the few tables around the bar. The bartenders are always fun and helpful. Drink like a local and give Pinkie Masters a shot!
google avatar

Jeanine R.

Yelp
As advertised, the drinks are strong, the conversation is lively, there is a fantastic display of memorabilia on the walls, and the bartenders are friendly and professional. What's not to love?
google avatar

Piper L.

Yelp
Great dive bar. Cash only, they do have AC wall unit, and clean bathrooms. Went during the day and also went at night. Bartenders Andrew and Luke are awesome. $2 ponies FYI.
google avatar

Veronica J.

Yelp
What a cool divey joint where the locals and the non locals come to hang out. Everyone is super friendly and the drinks are cheap and good. Make sure you bring cash because they do not take plastic. No cash? No worries! They have an ATM machine inside.

Mark C.

Yelp
Great small place, lots of different people from all walks of life. Cash only so be prepared, although they do have a ATM. Visit every time we are in town and have met some of the best people.
google avatar

Emma A.

Yelp
We came here on our walk home on a Friday night. From the outside it looks like a regular dive bar, nothing too astounding. Inside is what you would expect, but there is some fun 70's flare to it. Their beers are cheap, and while it might not be as nice as a lot of other bars in the area, it has its own thing going for it, is centrally located, and has some great people watching.

Yelp
There's hospitality, and then there's "Southern Hospitality". #HowdySugar highlights the places that make me feel special. Todays trip: Pinkie Masters An oldie but a goodie. This is the first place I was taken to two years ago when I first moved to Savannah. This place will always have a special place in my heart. This is what a good dive bar should be: cozy, intimate, jukebox, PBR, Fireball, good peeps. While this is not my first trip here, it desreves a place as a sweet spot in Savannah. Forget karaolke, forget a rooftop, forget your worries...but bring cash. I spent part of my 2019 Christmas eve here with my deluxe gal pal Alex. While all my family is gone, I always feel like I have family here. For some reason the hot pink women's bathroom has turned out to be some sort or tourist take a pic backdrop. I feel like I truly turned it out with this one. PBR, Johnny Cash playing in the background and someones horse that I borrowed. Epic bathroom shot. A good contender for my funeral pic. Don't be a hater. My Grandparents drank PBR, My parents, including my aging beauty queen mother drank PBR, Johnny Cash drank PBR... PBR is in my DNA. Its icocinc, just like this place. Don't get it twisted Sugar, you are in PBR country here.., and this is "THE" PBR clubhouse. They dont give a shit who you are, what you are, or what you are wearing in here. Its just a good ol' bar where everyone knows your name...or will. I have always been treated with the upmost repect here, many beers, many pics, many hugs. Thank you Pinkie Masters for flying high above all labels, you always make everyone feel at home here. Thanks Sugar, John-Earl #HowdySugar #VisitSavannah # #SavannahGeorgia #DowntownSavannah #HistoricSavannah #WelcomeToSavannahYall

Yelp
Great little dive bar- incredible prices! Service is great. Seems to be a local favorite Gotta love Jimmy Carter's history there! Great t shirts too

Yelp
What a great little neighborhood bar! We walked in and were immediately greeted by the bartender. We sat at the bar, it was busy for a Sunday afternoon. It was a hot Savannah day and their slushee was the Texas Ice. It was so refreshing and good. We had two of those and decided to call it a night. They are cash only but have great specials. Definitely check them out!
google avatar

Yelp
Found this place while staying in Savannah what a cool place. Nice friendly local watering hole downtown. Good cheap drinks and beers. Only takes cash so bring some. Holds maybe 30-35 people so it can be a little tight. Go where the locals go and enjoy!
google avatar

Bill R.

Yelp
Best coffee and pancakes around. Service was good. End of the shift, they were ready to be done. Will return.
google avatar

Colleen C.

Yelp
Pinkie Masters was definitely a highlight of Our girls weekend trip. The music was perfect for the children of the 70s-80s as was the company. We had a fantastic time! 2 CNY southern chics.
google avatar

Lori B.

Yelp
The absolute best dive bar in Savannah! Cold PBR and the best Bartender (Burke). Cash only. We never miss a visit here while in Savannah!
google avatar

Cameron B.

Yelp
Best bar in Savannah. Lots of shenanigans have taken place here. Glad to see it hasn't changed over the years.

Yelp
Pinkie Masters pub is a small local pub that welcomes you in and makes you feel like you belong. From the minute you walk in, you are greeted as if they have know you forever. "Hey you, great to see ya!....what are you drinking?" The bar is full of locals having a great time....laughing, talking, singing, dancing, drinking.... This small place serves liquor and beer with great prices. 3 dollar PBR's all day long. Dog friendly with water bowls for the pups to have a drink too. With a jukebox in the corner, the music never stops and ades with the dancing. Burke (sp) the bartender is awesomely entertaining. He knows everyone's names and remembered ours like he had known us for years. He has the "cocktail" vibe, tossing shakers in air.....and catching them. Opening 2 beers at 1 time....mixing drinks like Sir Mixalot. This bar sits on the corner out of the historical area giving it a homy vibe. Been here forever....but they moved it to Bay St for a short time. I am SO glad it is back where it started! Much cleaner now.....doesn't smell like smoke or look Smokey. We try to always hit this pub up when we are in town....one of the BEST dive bars around! Pop in for a drink and some great people watching.....you will love your time there. We didn't want to leave.....We will be back!

Yelp
I spent 4 nights in Savannah and bar-hopped 3 of them. Pinkie Masters is the only establishment that I went to twice. I instantly made friends and by my second visit, I felt like a regular. Musicians, movie industry employees, students, professional alcoholics, seniors, tourists, and hipsters comingling and enjoying drinks and stories. The place is dark and small with lots to look at if you are inclined to leave your seat. Great eclectic music playing. My favorite bar in Savannah and easily in my top 10 anywhere.
google avatar

Laura P.

Yelp
Serving locals and visitors cold beer and spirits since the 1950s, Pinkie Masters was awarded one of the Best Dive bars by Southern Living magazine in 2013. This place hasn't changed much through the years. Plenty of cold beer to be had here, especially their touted Pabst Blue Ribbon! They have about 10 beers on tap, as well as a decent liquor selection. Honestly, I always drink a cold beer here, so I can't testify as to their mixing ability. This long time local watering hole can be found on the corner of Drayton and Harris Streets. Look for the iconic, illuminated Pinkie Masters and Pabst Blue Ribbon sign on the corner of this dive bar. Also, interesting to note, are the variety of patrons that have visited Pinkies through the years. You'll see all types here, as well as, politicians from near and far. Jimmie Carter, Plains, Georgia native and close friend of the owner in 1970, is said to have announced his candidacy for President at Pinkie Masters - while standing on the bar! There are plenty of autographed, framed photos covering the bar's walls as testament to its famous guest. Cheers!

Yelp
Love this place!! Friendly staff, reasonable prices, nice crowd, historic neighborhood.

Yelp
Transport me back to a corner bar in Milwaukee....woosh....I am there. The people were friendly and the drinks were strong and cheap. There was an eclectic group of people there with some colorful commentary. It is cash only but go to the ATM and you have instant moolah so you can purchase your PBR. You can take roadies in plastic cups in Savannah so that is a little different. My favorite part was the "I Closed Wolski's" sticker. Ironically we met the couple from Milwaukee at another bar who told the owners where to frequent in Milwaukee and this bumper sticker was one of the outcomes. If you like an intimate corner bar with flavor this is definitely your place. We found Buffa's in NOLA as our hanging spot and now we have The Original in Savannah when we return. Great work Savannah!
google avatar

David L.

Yelp
So glad to see BURKE is back! The high life ponies are cheap and ice cold and the slushies are churning. Go get you some!
google avatar

Yelp
Cold beer and a great atmosphere. The bartender was very attentive and the bar area is very intimate. They are cash only though, so plan ahead.

Yelp
Got into Savannah late after flight delays so walked to this place from our room. Felt like our neighborhood bar in Colorado. Ended up meeting interesting local characters and had a fun late night (early morning) experience. We'll be back.
