Where To Eat At Guaranteed Rate Field - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Locations: Sections 157, 158, and 527 The original Original Rainbow Cone is a South Side classic that’s been around since 1926. And even though the Rainbow Cone stand at Guaranteed Rate doesn’t have the same history, it does serve the same thing: precariously stacked layers of chocolate, strawberry, Palmer house, and pistachio ice creams, plus orange sherbet. Leave your crisp white Sunday alternate home jersey in your closet and get it in a cone." - veda kilaru

Google
I’ve only tried the original Rainbow Cone because I seriously can’t get enough of it, though the sundaes look amazing too. The portions are generous whether you get it in a cone or a cup. They also offer a discount on Tuesdays, which brings the price down to around $5 instead of the usual $7–8. Definitely a must-try!

Google
An ice cream served in slices on a cone. Came to visit and experience what some have claimed is great Chicago ice cream. Yet left with an underwhelming experience with an ice cream that didn't meet my expectations. The taste is ok but not different to any other ice cream like Baskin Robbins or Cold Stone. The chocolate is creamy but again not different or "special." You have to order specific ice cream items to get the "sliced" effect on the cone. If you get a single cone, it's just another ice cream. I like how the cone comes with a cap that prevents melting onto your hand. This location seems to be shared with a pizza joint. It offers no seating. For the high price of the ice cream I would look elsewhere especially if you just I want one scoop.

Google
It was pretty straightforward with ordering in store. I i I got the rainbow cone and the flavors taste great together! No wonder they've been in business for 95 years! They know what they're doing! This cone was MASSIVE lol I also like the idea of slicing the ice-cream instead of scooping.

Google
We went to try the famous ice cream in Chicago. We had the classic flavors. I can’t say the ice cream was amazing, but it was definitely different. Since it’s traditional, it’s worth trying, but don’t have very high expectations.

Google
I paid for a regular size rainbow cone with extra for a waffle cone, not a Jr size, and this is what they gave. Nothing like the ones in the picture. I was shocked when it was handed to me. You can see how small and thin the layers are. That is TWO layers of pistachio by the way. I feel completely ripped off and suckered in by the false advertising photos. Absolute scam and I am pissed. Thanks for the horrible experience. Don’t recommend this to anyone.

Google
Fun and photogenic ice cream. Flavors are nice, it’s nothing fancy but it’s plenty sweet. Note that this location is a to-go kiosk only. There’s no seating.

Google
This area is so busy, there’s a line out the door for all of their neighboring food vendors. It’s easy enough to miss this place. The guy serving us ice cream was extra nice. The ice cream looks much larger than I imagine but definitely well worth it yUMmmYYY!!!!!

Google
Our family loved Rainbow Cone so much that we visited twice in our 3 day weekend visit to Chicago. The quality of the ice cream was excellent to eat a single flavor. The real stars of the show were the original rainbow cone and the banana split (MASSIVE). Highly recommend.

Yelp
First time trying a rainbow cone and it was unique to say the least. I loved the layering of the different flavors, that while distinct somehow managed to mesh together in a novel harmony. The cone can get very messy very quickly if you're eating it outside on a warm day, which is probably the only option since there's no indoor seating. They have a little contraption designed to catch the melted ice cream but it ended up overflowing for me and didn't work that well. I think that for one person, a junior size cone would be plenty. I got the original size and that was quite the sugar rush.

Yelp
Rainbow Cone! You have been in my list and I finally got the delisciousness tonight. I opted for the "mini" rainbow and it was delectable. My favorite was the cherry portion. My gals had sorbet and cookie dough. It was great night walk with some great icecream.

Yelp
Got the mini rainbow cone and it was loaded with ice cream! Quick friendly service. Super fun and colorful experience. I got to try flavors I wouldn't normally try. Ice cream had very creamy and soft texture. The cone was your average cake cone. Overall a fun treat, would recommend.

Yelp
There's no seating inside, it's more of a grab and go spot! Service was incredibly fast and there was no line. The decor is so pink and eye catching! I got the original rainbow cup. This came with five unique flavors including chocolate, pistachio, strawberry (with actual strawberry chunks in there!), Palmer house, and citrus lime? I like the variety, and would love to try the mint and choco one next time. Obviously would've been more aesthetic in a cone to see the actual 5 layers... whoops!

Yelp
I wasn't sure what to expect since I thought the flavors would be super artificial but I'm impressed by how everything tasted so good together (without the artificialness!). I got the rainbow cone with layers of chocolate, strawberry, palmer house, pistachio and orange sherbet. No matter what combination or order I ate the ice cream, it was delicious. The ice cream was also really smooth and creamy so the texture was perfect. Would definitely come back!

Yelp
My banana split was excellent--until I got to the pineapple. It was spoiled. Need to work on quality control.

Yelp
I'm so grateful they finally put a location closer to the downtown touristy area! This is my absolute favorite ice cream, and I live in California. Whenever I visit, this is one of my must-haves, but it was so hard to get as their original location is further south of Chicago. It's basically a small food court like space and they have their own set up inside. I got their ice cream in 40 degree weather and I had no regrets. Thank you for making it easier for us out-of-towners to enjoy this delicious treat.

Yelp
Had to get the unofficial ice cream of Chicago. I was excited to see a Michigan Ave location, located next to Ginos East. My boyfriend got the original rainbow cone and now wants to go back again today. I've had that before so tried this chocolate obsession and was not disappointed. We have a few more days in Chicago, I'm guessing with a few more trips here.

Yelp
Unique taste treats in the heart of Chicago. This little counter is right inside the entrance to Gino's East. Counter service was slow but friendly. The treats themselves are fun and especially good for kids or the young at heart.

Yelp
First dessert, then ice cream. I learned about The Original Rainbow Cone two weeks ago but I didn't realize it was available at Navy Pier and the stand at the White Sox game had run out of cones and I knew I wanted the real experience, not just in a bowl. So this week I trekked around the city and found the nearest location on my walk. I enjoyed the flavor combos-including those I'd never tried like pistachio and Palmer House. I made it through the strawberry although it is still my least favorite flavor. Overall it was a great treat. Definitely worth trying! Staff were nice and quick. Waited a max of five minutes in line and less than that to get my ice cream.

Yelp
Hands down the most interesting icecream I have ever tried. Original rainbow cone has been a Chicago staple for a long time and it never disappoints. All the flavors on the cone are so creamy and delicious. The orange sherbet and the pistachio flavors are my favorite. The Palmer House is such an interesting flavor. It's fun to try all of these flavors together, and strangely they work together well too. One interesting thing to note is that the icecream is cut and then stacked on to the cone, they don't scoop! The service has always been great! The staff is friendly and are patient when you keep trying all the flavors before ordering. A must visit!

Yelp
Taste the Rainbow Come! for our first time trying this it was outstanding!! On a nice hot sunny day in Chicago this ice cream is needed and it's so delicious! Every layer to it is yummy yummy in our tummies and just look at it! The colors themselves make you want to eat it all up! The people who worked there were very sweet and such a cute bright place!

Yelp
The idea of diff flavors is aesthetically pleasing but tasting them all together wasn't the best which is why I knocked one star. Service was quick and got my ice cream fix.
google avatar

Yelp
Was told by a native a must try treat and I'd agree. Made our walk along the riverfront all the more enjoyable. Layers of refreshingly sweet Orange Sherbet, Pistachio, Palmer House, Strawberry, and Chocolate. In a cake cone served with a considerate ice cream buddy so if it melts, it doesn't get all over your hands. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Ashley L.

Yelp
Ordered the Palmer house and rainbow cone. Super friendly staff and quick service but the ice cream tasted pretty basic and just like any other generic brand but the layers were cool.

Yelp
Been craving this all summer and finally got a chance to try it. Definitely hit the spot and didn't even have to wait in line for it. Super cute spot located right next to Gino's East!

Yelp
I was walking around and ran into an ice cream truck. It was Original Rainbow Cone. It was a sunny day and the weather was perfect. It was only right that i got a scoop of ice cream. I got one scoop of cookies and cream ice creams and Omg.....it was soooo good! It was very creamy and so flavorful. I had never had ice cream from here before so this was my first time. But let me tell you.....it wont be my last!

Yelp
The OG Rainbow Cone is a summertime must! It's like a flavor party in your mouth with all the layers of chocolate, pistachio, orange sherbet, Palmer House in one scoop. Grabbing that colorful tower of yum is a Chicago summer ritual. If you haven't had this cone of happiness, you're seriously missing out! Do yourself a favor and grab yourself a treat!
google avatar

Yelp
The original rainbow cone was delicious to the point that is worth trying at least once while you're in Chicago. I went there right before closing and it was still a good experience.

Yelp
The iconic rainbow cone tastes just as good as the other location! The flavors are all amazing and the staff was super friendly!

Yelp
Love this place. Good for nostalgia. Has a small selection but enough. Love the mint chocolate chip they offer, as well.

Yelp
Wow, what a delicious way to end a wonderful trip to Chicago with the Original Rainbow Cone! I am so glad we did not miss out of this culinary experience before departing because each layer of flavor was yummy. They include slices of orange sherbet, Palmer house, chocolate, and strawberry. Palmer house was my favorite as I liked the variety of mix-ins. The staff here is very friendly and service is great. I do wish there was some seating available specifically for the store. It is part of a cozy indoor area that also includes a pizza place and a bar. Nevertheless, it is great opportunity to grab a scoop or stack of scoops and take a stroll around the city.

Yelp
Delicious! And great service. Eliyah was amazing and very patient with our huge group.

Yelp
Excellent service with Eliya. Ice cream was good Eliya makes it the best! I recommend going here.

Yelp
Love rainbow cone. So flavorful. My favorite is chocolate but funny thing is that it taste the best if eaten as a rainbow cone. Love this place.
google avatar

Yelp
Located inside of Gino's East River North Location, The Original Rainbow Cone has opened up a kiosk inside of the restaurant. This pair is a match made in Chicago!
google avatar

Aly M.

Yelp
Ok my favorite ice cream spot here. The NY Vanilla ice cream is so good, it's like a French vanilla style. This is the only vanilla ice cream I eat! They give you cones if you get a big tub too. Cookie sandwiches are super sweet but the ice cream is perfect on its own. The service is a little slow but it is because there are a lot of people in line with orders and the ice cream is hard to scoop. The location is inside Gino's and there are no chairs or waiting areas. So this location makes it tough to enjoy the ice cream.
google avatar

Ariel M.

Yelp
So cute! This was my first time trying rainbow cone, and it was excellent. The shop is adorable and the ice cream was awesome. The cakes look interesting and you can buy by the slice, the girl who served us was nice to tell us a bit about them and I thought it was pretty neat. Overall a cute little ice cream shop and nice after your meal of pizza since it's inside Gino's East!

Yelp
Marshmallow-infused ice cream is genius. If only it didn't turn my mouth blue would be ideal ツ
google avatar

Bronson E.

Yelp
I had the delicious OG cone, it was a solid exploration, with a unique Palmer hotel flavor. I knew I wasn't going to like them all, but I actually enjoyed more flavorings than I thought. All of them were solid, with a much better pistachio and strawberry than I thought there would be. I highly highly recommend to pick up a cone if you see one. Not to mention it's served in a charmingly accessible food truck by friendly staff.

Yelp
This place was really good! I got the chocolate obsession cone and loved it. My mom got her free rainbow cone and it was quite reasonable too. Recommend!

Yelp
So good... we tried 5 flavors including the original rainbow cone. It was all good, and pistachio was my personal fave! Excellent way to cool off in 80 degree Chicago summer weather.
