Google
I ordered Take out from here. Got a quesadilla with ground beef, this was perfectly juicy from the beef grease (it wasn’t dripping which sometimes that could be too much), and I love so much there’s a lot of flavor in the beef with onion. I also love they give you a few cups of salsa and sour cream. Elote was delicious, too. Service was nice and quick

Leonard

Google
Ordered the shrimp burrito and it was so good and fresh. Crunchy, real cheese, lots of flavor, good portion. Really really good !

Google
Five stars all the way around! Outpost accommodated our catering request that included two drop offs and the biggest jug of horchata I have ever seen! Everyone in the office loved the food, and the friendly and helpful service is so appreciated. Can't wait to order again.

Google
Amazing food and in big portions too. The servers were friendly and made sure we had a good time during our stay. Would recommend this place. We had burrito bowl ,3 tacos with rice and beans and chicken quesadillas.

Google
Great atmosphere and customer service. Waitress friendly and helped me make decision. I got the Al Pastor Burrito a la cart and added raw onions. Food was great. Veggies fresh, crispy and crunchy, they even added corn which was a different but satisfying experience. I Love Veggies and am very critical about them when dining out. They didn't let me down. The Al Pastor was fresh, clean and full of pineapple flavor. Will def make this my burrito spot and get the name of the cook. When I do come back, I'm gonna make sure he's here. BTW his name is Paciente'. Thank you!

Google
Staff were pleasant and quick. Place was clean. The food was just ok. I had high hopes based on all the reviews, I was pretty excited to go. We ordered steak burrito, steak bowl and shrimp ceviche. The steak was not flavorful and kinda tough. Not like a skirt Steak. They forgot to put cheese in my bowl. And the ceviche was not bad, that actually had good flavor but not a lot of shrimp. This unfortunately will not be one of out go to's when in the area

Google
Vegan and vegetarian food!! So good and fresh, the guacamole is the best I've had! Right across from the customs building if you are getting your TSA global entry park behind the outpost, eat and then walk across the street!

Google
Let’s just start out with the food was fantastic! The staff was nice and helpful! The place was so clean and the prices were great! And my most favorite thing is… they had churros and it tasted like heaven with a side of chocolate. This place is perfect for a quick lunch and I’ll def be back. Follow on IG @Talkshebusiness for more restaurants to explore!

Yelp
Stopped in here on my way to the post office. I hadn't planned on grabbing lunch but the $2 special whoo me in. Ordering enough was easy. I grabbed pollo, chorizo, and Al pastor tacos. Opted for the red hot sauce. My tacos were still hot when I arrived back to office space. Hands down this place has good food. I would come back if in the area. Variety of offerings here to include horchata, hot chocolate and agua frescas. The chips looked homemade and crispy. I spied that they even make breakfast burritos and other selections. Check this place out. So much better than the taco place inside of the Old Post Office.

Michael B.

Yelp
Small spot just outside of the main post office downtown. Folks were welcoming and prices were great especially for being downtown. I had the Chilaquiles verde with steak and over easy eggs. Parking is tricky but definitely worth a visit.

Greg P.

Yelp
So glad I decided to check out The Outpost while on lunch from work. The place is clean and the service was great. You walk up and order and they bring your food to the table if you dine in. I'm a fan of birria so I went with the birria combo that comes with three birria tacos and consommé. The tacos were great, packed with beef and just a little cheese to give nice flavor but not overwhelm. The consome is nice and flavorful, not spicy at all but complements the tacos well. I was very satisfied and I will come here for lunch again for sure.

Hannah G.

Yelp
Food is great!! Some of the best Mexican in the city. The staff are nice and helpful.

Felicia K.

Yelp
Steak tacos were tender and juicy. Chips were crisp guacamole was fresh portions were perfect. Price was very nice. 6 steak tacos 8oz rice 8oz of beans 2 large horchatas 4oz guacamole and a small bag of chips $45 not a bad deal for great food service was friendly and fast. They take pride in the work they do here and it shows. It was welcoming inside and they made you feel like you belonged. We will definitely be back. We ate the food too fast and forgot to snap a few shots.

Yelp
I always see this place when I walk by and on maps so finally had to try it. I ordered the chicken burrito and it was absolutely delicious. Everything was fresh and the service was excellent. I have decided to become a regular!

Gabby Z.

Yelp
food was soooo good. would make the drive out again. the sauces were also amazing. the staff was friendly and inviting, parking is complicated but parking in front of the place with hazards works too just saying. they had a deal for tacos and rice so i had to try it and the steak was very juicy and tasty as well as the rice. i highly recommend this location.

Andrea B.

Yelp
I have never dined here but my bday was coming up and really needed catering. I reached out to the outpost and they worked with me on a catering order I got a taco bar- steak & chicken tacos (came with all the toppings), southwest salad, chips and guacamole. Since it was my first time ordering I was a bit nervous but everything was delicious! It was delivered when they said it would be delivered- it was a few hours before my party so I kept it on the warming setting in my oven and everything was perfect! Everyone kept asking where I got the food and everyone was a fan. I would 100% Order catering from here again and I can't wait and go in and get some additional food to try.

mykel s.

Yelp
The food was OK but I found pieces of plastic inside of the refried beans. Taco Dinner

Raj S.

Yelp
I come here all the time, the food is delicious! I got their chicken nachos this time, comes LOADED with chicken. But I've also tried their burritos and tacos. All excellent, but the burritos are my favorite. The service is always quick, and the staff are always friendly. Slightly pricier compared to some other mexican fast food places, but well worth the price in my opinion

I B.

Yelp
Fresh, healthy and large quantities. Highly recommend. Their location is also close to Chicago Union Station.

Tony I.

Yelp
We live in a taco Mecca there everywhere and some have great flavors and some are kinda run of the mill this place is an average taco place food was ok portions were average sides we're really small I order the nachos with steak and it was a good size plate steak or what appeared to be steak more like chopped beef was not bad my friend had the taco dinner and his also steak apparently was ok we enjoyed our meal but with other options out there it'll be a while before we head back The place is super clean and setup was nice it's in a spot off the main areas and it's kinda in a slower area down from the battery court and greyhound station

Trevor B.

Yelp
This is a relatively new restaurant and I was extremely impressed! I ordered three different tacos. The steak, the chicken, and chorizo. The steak had a great grilled flavor, the chicken was served sliced and was juicy, the chorizo was seasoned to perfection. I came back another day and ordered the steak bowl. This bowl was layered with refried beans, Mexican rice, lettuce, steak, cheese, and tomatoes. Once again, the quality was great and there was plenty of food. Additionally, I ordered their guacamole, which was simple and fresh! The chips they serve are seasoned and a little on the salty side. The head chef I spoke with said that all of their meats are made fresh and prepared in house. You can tell by the quality of their food! This seems like a place that will do well because they are passionate and care about the customer's experience. The venue was clean and orderly.

Lauren J.

Yelp
Yummmmmm! I cannot emphasize the YUMMMM enough. The beef barbacoa tacos were delicious. I loved the elote. The rice and beans were solid texmex style. Service was quick and helpful. The building was a little tight, but as long as you're not with a large group, there's space to accommodate a party of 4.

Adnan M.

Yelp
I don't see a reason to not give a high 5 stars to this wonderful mexican restaurant! I ordered the following items for delivery: Breakfast burrito- Eggs, steak, pico degallo and melting cheese in a grilled tortilla. This was one of the best breakfast burrritos I've had in chicago. The ingredients were fresh, the portion size was fantastic, the ratio of eggs-meat to cheese to condiment to tortilla was perfect. The freshness was incredible. Guacamole and chips- The guac was clearly hand smashed as guac should be. The ingredients such as cilantro and tomatoes can be seen while the avocados perfectly mashed to form a perfect proportionate blend of greatness. Chips were salted to perfection with a crisp in every bite. Both red and green salsas were delicious as well and i dripped them on every bite of my burrito! Now, the best part which in my opinion bumps any restaurant a star up is their packing! In these covid times, food integrity is so important! And this restaurant nailed it! look at the picture of them making sure, food integrity remains while food is delivered! Great job guys!

Yelp
Yummy yummy in my tummy!!! I ran across this place by accident while I was with a friend. I checked the reviews and thought I would give it a try. I ordered to 2 steak tacos with everything and it was so fresh delicious. I mean I know I'm no expert but I know good food when I taste it for sure. If I'm in the area I will definitely stop by and check out more of their menu items. I also like they have a few specials which are not on the menu and it will give you a chance to taste a couple of their items with a little savings at the same...BONUS!!! The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because I only had the tacos, but I think when I revisit them I will have to do an update. As always everyone Be safe and Enjoy!!!!

Carol M.

Yelp
I had a terrific evening with my pod on Friday night, and wanted to share so you can do the same. If you are in the downtown area, highly recommend you try a family meal from the Outpost. Delivery is of course available, but pick up was very easy and quick. The meal is heat and eat, so we enjoyed margaritas while good smells were coming from the oven. The chicken/steak tacos were very fresh, with creative flavors. The guacamole was outstanding. I wish my pictures did it justice. After dinner, we watched the Netflix mockumentary "Death to 2020." Highly recommend. A great meal, and a good laugh = a balm for the soul

Lavette D.

Yelp
Today they only get two stars due to the fact I'm the only one who's dinner is not edible. The first time I visited the location in Downers Grove and it was fresh and delicious so I recommended the place to my friends/co-workers the following week and we all enjoyed it so we decided that this would be our Taco Tuesday place. We didn't order yesterday but decided to order today and I'm sorry we did. I ordered steak taco dinner which includes 3 tacos rice and refried beans. I ate one gave one away and the rest will go in the garbage. My food seems like it's recooked. The steak is overdone actually in my opinion burnt, and the beans are dried out. Nothing about this is fresh as you advertise on your site. The beans on-site look great but mines look horrible. I spent too much money for this crap. Pictures to follow.

Torm H.

Yelp
I awoke hungover and in need of something spicy to remedy my situation. The chilaquiles are legit. Legit as in I became the man I should be and they slaughtered my hangover. The red sauce is spicy! Am definitely stopping by here hangover or not when I'm in the area.

Ritze M.

Yelp
My first time in was disappointing, to say the least. I work in the courthouse across the street, and I was excited to see that a new lunch option had moved into the location First, no meat options were available except steak, which is an up charge. But I found a few items that I wanted to try out anyhow. I ordered a $20+ lunch, and was disappointed to realize items are missing from my order, which I watched two employees CHECK before handing it to me. My $8 quesadilla, which promised sides of pick de Gallo and sour cream came with neither. The side of rice (which was $3) was a condiment-sized container, and took me all of four spoonfuls to eat. Additionally, I stood in the front of the restaurant, literally 6 feet away from your front-of-house employee who was typing away not acknowledging me (or the other patron waiting for a good amount of time for a to-go box) for a good amount of time. I tried to wave her down and clear my throat, but was ignored. I had time to pull out my phone and peruse and wrote my own yelp review then and there. Ignoring customers/sub par customer service isn't a great way to start out with a new restaurant business (I'm also in the industry). I'm sorry to say that I wouldnt recommend this place Poor customer service. The food is nothing great for the price (though a good portion of the menu was unavailable, for some reason).

Yelp
Get your fat burrito fix here! I got the steak burrito, which had loads of steak, Mexican rice, beans, and a healthy amount of veggies. As noted in other reviews, the steak pieces were a little chewy but I didn't mind it. The green and red salsa they provided were both good. I got the chips and guac -- there were plenty of chips, but since I ordered during dinner time most of the chips were stale. The guac was tasty and lime-heavy. The cashier was very friendly and ordering on GrubHub was super easy and quick. The food was ready about 15 mins before the estimated time. There were a couple of tables for indoor dining and street parking on Clinton or Jefferson. Overall-- 5 stars for the burrito and customer service with a star knocked off for the stale chips. Would come back again.

Sam M.

Yelp
Frankly I wasn't sure what to expect here but I had a carry out order of steak and chicken tacos which were delicious. Very fresh and the flavoring of both meats was excellent. Looking forward to returning!

Ms Piggy I.

Yelp
Delicious - can I just leave a one word review? Picture speaks for itself: look at that perfectly wrapped and toasted burrito. I chose the veggies option, which was unique with such great flavor. Not your average just cooked onions and peppers most places will do. Chef knows what he's doing back there, and the staff was friendly enough to let me practice Spanish while ordering. A job well done to the owners; what a great spot I'll be back for more!!

Roza K.

Yelp
We stopped here on our way home from the city. The food was delicious. I had a cactus bowl, which was something new for me. It was definitely tasty and had a tang to it. We also had the nachos and a burrito bowl which were also delicious and a large size. We would definitely come back!

Alina J.

Yelp
I've been looking for a good taco spot in the neighborhood for a while now. Thank god this place popped up because we were in desperate need. I ordered the elote and a steak burrito. I liked the options for customization on the burrito. I'm not a vegetarian, but I frequently like to get substitute veggies for meat and the veggie option looked like it would have been pretty tasty. The elote had a lime aioli which was actually really good even though I'm not usually a fan of aioli. Definitely going to order again and try more of the menu!

Agnes M.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem! Staff is always so friendly and clean area. The burrito bowl is my go to, fresh ingredients not oily, very filling. The green sauce/salsa is delicious.

Nicholas D.

Yelp
From Detroit, mega tourist here for a concert. Food is 100% incredible, made with love. Clear menu, not too bloated but ripe with options. So much variety in their choices however I will say, you an always see how good a Mexican restaurant/establishment is by their Tortas. Here? It is to DIE FOR. Best Mexican I've ever had hands down. How Chipotle isn't out of business is a great mystery. These guys rock, please check them outB

Vanessa V.

Yelp
Food is very good. I order the taco dinner and elote. Superb every time. Flavorful, and filling.

Charles Y.

Yelp
This is a go to lunch spot when I am in a hurry as it is super close to my work. The food is good but a bit over priced. Taco plate with beans and rice =$15. I the price was closer to $10 I would give it another star.

Brittany V.

Yelp
A must visit! Anna, one of the owners, is the kindest and most welcoming person when you walk in. She's very knowledgeable with suggesting things on the menu and the food does not disappoint. The tacos were absolutely delicious and very filling!

Jessica S.

Yelp
Really tasty tacos and a phenomenal deal! The big taco meal deal is 6 tacos, rice, beans, salsas, guac, and 2 churros (ad says churro dipping sauce, but we didn't get any). Steak was a little chewy but the chicken was GREAT! Really good rice & beans; guac was pretty spicy

Renée S.

Yelp
The Outpost has quickly become our favorite go-to for authentic Mexican food. Highly recommended. On our initial visit, we had two taco combos (6 total tacos - 3 al pastor and 3 steak), which came with tacos, rice, and beans. Service The service was outstanding, and as soon as we entered, we were greeted and had a quick chat with the owner. She explained the menu, answering any questions we had, and within 8 minutes we were already out the door. Friendly staff and quick service! Food As soon as we opened the box, we knew we had chosen correctly. The lettuce was crisp and springy. The salsa tasted so fresh, it really felt like it had just been made. The al pastor was crispy with pineapple bits. The steak was tender and juicy. Each bite was complete with a bit of everything -- nothing was skimped out on. The tacos come with two tortillas per. They're not so thick that all you eat is tortilla, yet sturdy enough to hold all of the toppings. After three tacos each, we were so satisfied! Highly recommended and will be continuing to support local. Would encourage anyone to come by and try out The Outpost. You won't be disappointed!

Armando M.

Yelp
This place was had some good taco, asada, pastor, & Pollo topped with lettuce, onions, tomatoes & cheese, some kicking spicy red salsa, along with some good home style beans & rice, washed down with a mandarin Jarritos.

Dan W.

Yelp
A very generous burrito bowl and a drink for 16 dollars is not a bad price in downtown Chicago. It helps that the meal was quick, well spiced and built to order. I will be swinging through again!

Surbhi T.

Yelp
This convenient local restaurant near the courthouse has recently expanded their hours to accommodate dinner orders in addition to lunch. The food is delicious with generous portions and staff is friendly and welcoming with fast service. The menu is limited but doesn't disappoint, including all day breakfast dishes like chilaquiles.

Roy A.

Yelp
The food was ok. We ordered 2 tacos to go. We received one very badly put together chicken taco or something , I could not tell what it was , just a big sloppy mess. I don't get all the 5 star ratings. Two at best!

Teddy B.

Yelp
Went to catered event with their food and it was not good. Carne asada was greasy grilled top with oil and tough seriously like gum, pastor was extra greasy with fat on it and dripping. Chicken was dry not tasty. Salsa was horrible the red one had some kick bit no bueno. Mexican rice was bland and light orange very little flavor at all. While my friend wanted to support local business. I think they are just cheapie Mexican food not worth the money, no one commented it was good at the party. They need to step up cooking and food quality if they want to stay open. I would not recommend or order again for the those reasons.

Alex J.

Yelp
You can tell there's a lot of love and passion in the food at the outpost. They do a lot of things from scratch, pack them full of flavor, and use high quality ingredients. Hidden gem in the south loop.

Ronak S.

Yelp
Love this place! I always grab a few tacos and burrito whenever I'm in the area. I get the tacos and add pico de gallo inside. Amazing al pastor, chicken, and steak. Really good chorizo too!

Ellen Z.

Yelp
If you are looking for a tasty Mexican lunch, look no further. The Al Pastor Burrito bowl I just picked up was EXACTLY what I needed - quality of food was very high, veggies were super fresh and the meat was delicious. I ordered online and it was ready in under 15 minutes which was also a great bonus!! The people were also super friendly and welcoming - will definitely be back for lunch!!

Cynthia M.

Yelp
Just moved to the area co workers have tried it and said it was delicious food can't wait to try!

Kate A.

Yelp
Great spot! Definitely will be coming back. I did takeout, but there's a decent amount of seating inside as well. The staff was so friendly and helpful. Food was great and had good portion sizes for the price!

Sohaib Q.

Yelp
I ordered their steak tacos for carry out and the food was prepared on time, waiting for me in a covid safe setting and packed to go. The food was well seasoned and good quality. I'll be back again soon.

George H.

Yelp
Read an article in Crains about this new place. I tried today and will definitely be back. The food and ingredients are a step up from the standard Mexican place.

Vaylla K.

Yelp
Absolutely love this restaurant. Prices are great, you get a lot of food for a reasonable amount of money and it's delicious. This restaurant is a hidden gem and needs more recognition. Next time I go, I'll upload pictures of my food. Their quesadillas are sooo good and they recently added birria tacos that are also super good. Staff is so friendly and you can really feel the love in their restaurant.

Eric F.

Yelp
Hands Down my favorite quick serve Mexican.. no frills here but the quality of food is fantastic and the portions are huge. you will not find a better quick serve burrito bowl!

Mike R.

Yelp
We had four street tacos. Two were steak and then a chorizo and a pastor. The double corn shells held a hefty filling. The outpost has a green sauce and a red sauce to complement their tacos. The green tomatillo has a hint of lime and the red carries a little heat and a lot of flavor. Four street tacos with a side of black beans and a couple waters totaled $20 before the tip. Great value!

Teresa P.

Yelp
The owners are so warm and friendly! And the food is a melody of flavors on your tongue. I had the steak tacos and the meat was flavorful and the toppings added just the right balance of flavors! I added the green salsa which wasn't spicy but was very tasty! I just left and I am already planning my next visit!

Steve H.

Yelp
Chefs kiss to the menu here. Especially loved the churros. Grade-A ingredients and customer service. Will return with the rest of the fam soon.
