Best Restaurants in Oxford | Where to Eat on a Day Trip to Oxford | Eater London

"Most restaurants awarded a Michelin star make a big deal about it, but the Oxford Kitchen, on the main road going through Summertown, literally has its award painted on its front. Just as well, then, that ex-Rhodes at W1 chef Paul Welburn knows exactly what he’s doing inside; fans come out raving about the likes of Cornish squid ragù and mackerel and buttermilk. Sometimes, perhaps it’s worth being a bit ostentatious." - Alexander Larman

I happened upon the Oxford Chef (Karol) in the Summertown Farmers Market before Christmas and tried a selection of tarts. The best lemon meringue pie I've ever had, with a soft, marshmallowy Italian meringue and lovely tangy lemon curd. And buttery, melt in the mouth pastry with a lovely crunch. Since then I've ordered the full size Italian lemon meringue pie, and now our daughter ordered a chocolate raspberry chili tart for my husbands birthday. This one is as delicious as the lemon meringue! A rich, fudgy dark chocolate fondant over a wonderful chocolate cookie crumb crust and such perfect, juicy raspberries (where from, in January?!). The scattering of chilli seeds is a wonderful innovation. They make the whole pie pop!
