Best Restaurants in Oxford | Where to Eat on a Day Trip to Oxford - Eater London

"Most restaurants awarded a Michelin star make a big deal about it, but the Oxford Kitchen, on the main road going through Summertown, literally has its award painted on its front. Just as well, then, that ex-Rhodes at W1 chef Paul Welburn knows exactly what he’s doing inside; fans come out raving about the likes of Cornish squid ragù and mackerel and buttermilk. Sometimes, perhaps it’s worth being a bit ostentatious." - Alexander Larman

We had a lovely dinner in this place. Can’t praise the food enough, everything was tasty, inventive and well presented. The scallop (in option in the menu) is absolutely worth it. I enjoyed the wine pairing as well, with sweet wines with the desserts, something I am not used to. The staff was very kind as well. It is pricey but very well worth it all things considered.

Oxford's newest Michelin star restaurant. Had the fortune to dine here while visiting the area. Service was impeccable and considerate. Very knowledgeable regarding the dishes served. Tried their chef's tasting menu. Very good array of dishes with a wide spread of taste and textures. The halibut and steak were definitely the star of the shoe. Can be crowded. Advise to plan and book before hand.

I am 14 years old and before coming here, I had never tried fine dining. We came to this place because we were visiting a friend who was close by although I had also wanted to have my first fine dining experience. We had the a la carte menu (2/3 courses) and began with a starter which was a complimentary meal from the kitchen. This was delicious, I have to say. We then moved on to our starter, main and pudding - these were not too heavy as we were easily able to finish all of the courses including the delectable refreshments we had at the end. This place has a great atmosphere, even though not a lot of people were in there at that time and it was not overpriced for the amount of food you were actually given. I would definitely recommend this place :)

The food is amazing and the staff are extremely nice. We made some requests and they are really accommodating. They really went above and beyond for the service (which is quite rare around here). We were definitely impressed! Will go back again for sure.

Fabulous food, a strong variety of tastes and textures. Delicious and beautifully presented. The taster menus are great value for money! Prepare to be treated for 3 hours.

Offering 5 or so different lunch menus, the options were endless but we settled for the 3-course lunch menu at £38.50. We started with warm country loaf served alongside two types of butter: yeasty malt and herb, followed by amuse bouche of pork croquettes and sweet beetroot meringues with goats curd filling. This was followed by our entrees, which we shared - scorched mackerel with smoked creme fraiche, pickled onions, arrow grass and caviar (my favorite!); chicken terrine with peaches and wild herbs; and burrata and tomatoes with pickled nectarine sorbet and black olive crumb, that came with a tomato essence drizzle. We picked the same main, which is the 48 hour beef with marrow and onion jam, carrot purée and elderberries. We were stuffed by the end of our mains. For desserts, we had the strawberry and thyme ‘tart’, peach Melba of sorts and chocolate with hazelnut. We enjoyed every single dish and could’ve skipped dinner considering how full we were at the end of our meal!

Yelp
Dropped by this delight while traveling through Oxford! As i was traveling alone, I asked for a corner table during reservation, and when i arrived, a corner table was ready for me. I got the three course lunch (25 pounds) and my my - it was worth everything. I also got a cocktail - raspberry and that was delightful as well. The tuna salad was very fresh and tasty, it really helped me into the pork shoulder which simply melted in my mouth. Then there was the DESSERT- toffee pudding and WOW. heavenly. I highly highly recommend!!!!

Yelp
I travel a lot and am always looking for that special meal. I found it at The Oxford Kitchen. Each course was so very special. I started with the crab salad. It was light and fresh and beautifully presented. Then, the lobster and linguini...wow! Perfect balance, texture and flavor. I wish I could have gone in to the kitchen to thank the chef personally. I finished with the rice pudding. It was delicate and perfectly sweet. The wine (Kir royal and Chardonnay) were ideal pairings. I really don't find a meal this perfect very often. I will surely be back the next time I'm in Oxford.

Yelp
I generally hate the food in the UK but this place is the extreme end of wonderful. I took my family here for a graduation ceremony and was beyond surprised. The food was plated well and full of flavor. This was an exceptional experience.

Yelp
Had a delicious dinner date here with a lovely gal. We had more than one dessert and some. The Server was pleasant and happy to be there and I must say quite contrary.

Yelp
The Oxford Kitchen has just redefined beautiful food. It's a promise of a culinary love story with delightful surprises to complete your day. From amazing "diver-caught scallops" to perfect fillet of plaice and wonderful chocolate mousse, it's worth that 45minutes drive from London. Absolutely lovely.

Yelp
This. The food was AMAZING. British food is not the best, but the culinary expertise of this chef to merge flavor a and foods to create an experience is divine. We had tons of tasty treats and loved that the staff was amazing. Definitely will come here again when in town.

Yelp
I have eaten here twice recently, lunch and dinner. The lunch was for work, and the wait staff were noticeably nice, prompt and helpful. The dinner was for a special birthday with a 'foodie' and he was impressed by the creativity. Both times my food was delicious, inventive, and in appropriate portions. I would highly recommend.
