Ella’s Oyster Bar Review - Little Havana - Miami - The Infatuation

"Ella’s is a casual seafood spot on the busiest part of Calle Ocho. The seafood options here range from ceviche to oysters to sushi. It’s a fine place to come if you happen to be in a seafood mood (although, if that’s the case, La Camaronera is worth the drive). They do a pretty nice weekday Happy Hour too." - Ryan Pfeffer

Not our cup of tea. It is an incredibly small space with tables jam packed everywhere. We love intimate dinners but this was too close for comfort. We came here because of Savor Fort Wayne. We thought we would try somewhere new. The bread and the dessert were amazing but everything in-between was sadly lackluster.

Google
It's been about 18 years since I've been here, so decided to try it for a Savor deal. To be upfront, I'm not an oyster fan, so I can not rate them, but everyone swears by them. The decor is cozy but very dated, worn down and cramped. The front dining has a few tables and a decent bar rail. Full bar with about 8 draft beers. There is a back dining room, but you'll have to go through the kitchen to get to it, and back for the restrooms. Appetizer was buffalo shrimp with blue cheese. The sauce was really good and flavored with just hints of buffalo and good spice level. Shrimp was just OK and a little chewy. Main I had the Seafood au Gratin and it was amazing. GF got the Parrot fish, and I thought it was meh. The ceasar said was avg but cold and fresh. You can tell they focus on good ingredients and tru chef techniques. Meal with deal, 2 beers was about $120, non deal would have been another $30 or so. Service was stellar and very prompt. Bathrooms are definitely not ada but meet basic needs. Overall, if you want oysters by all means, if you want good or better seafood and / or steak, bang for buck, there are better places in town to have a fine dining experience.

Google
Massive fresh oysters and very nice staff. Everything we ate was amazing. Pricey but definitely worth it. The clam chowder is unbelievable!

Google
Omg... first time, and they are amazing. The oysters were so delicious and fresh, and calamari was yummy and the clam chowder, butternut squash. Omg... I will come again. And the customer service is divine and super 👌 nice. The kitchen team super amazing 👏 so my hat down to them. So as a new customer I invite you to do reservations with them and enjoy your adventures coming here and have a taste from the sea. And trust me, I come from an island and they remind me of home (Puerto Rico).

Google
Highly recommend for a date night! We've had excellent experiences the 3 times that we've dined here in the past year. Food is amazing and I love the half & half entree option so you can try multiple things in one visit. Best Clam Chowder ever! Small disclaimer, all seating is VERY TIGHT since this is an old building so if you want a place more intimate and private, this is not the place for you since you'll be bumping elbows with your neighbor. Servers have always been super attentive but it's a slower dining experience so make sure you have adequate time to enjoy!

Google
This quaint and cozy Fort Wayne staple never disappoints! The seafood is always cooked perfectly and the service is consistent. My favorite dish is the Cioppino. Their clam chowder is some of the best here in town! The interior is a bit of a speakeasy feel. The inside is smaller so I would recommend making a reservation if you’re coming for dinner, mainly for the weekends or a group larger than 4.

Google
We went to Oyster Bar for my birthday, and had a lovely first experience. Our waitress was fantastic too, but I don't remember her name. It's very cozy and the atmosphere/ambience is great. We want to try the backroom next time. We had Oysters, drinks, chowder, and entrees. Don't skip the chowder, it's excellent. I felt like I was on the east coast eating at a great seafood joint.

Scott Amstutz

Google
The walleye and raspberry chicken were excellent. Clam chowder also above average. Service is always friendly and top notch, but not uppity. Atmosphere is tougher to review. On one hand it's historic, quaint and a bit unusual in a good way. On the other hand, it's tight quarters between tables and non-private.

Yelp
Don't usually review a place twice, but the Oyster Bar is so good I just had to. The clam chowder is better than anything I've had in the coast or Caribbean. I had jalapeño bacon baked oysters- delicious. My wife had the black and blue oysters. A bit spicy but she loved them. This place is small, tight but the service and food make up for it. Tori was our server and she was perfect. Don't miss this Ft Wayne icon.

Yelp
Best service around! Tony and crew are so creative with the dinner specials. Wonderful flavor combinations!

Yelp
Believe the hype! I was staying down the street at the Hilton and got a recommendation from the bartender. I walked down at about 4 PM and spoke with a waitress and the bartender in The Oyster Bar about the menu, seat availability, etc. They were both so kind and helpful. We returned at 7 for dinner and had seats reserved at the bar. This is a small restaurant, so reservations are recommended. It is a small restaurant but clean and very efficient. I had the raw Chesapeake Bay oysters and the Admiral Cut Filet mignon. Both were perfect!

Yelp
OMG! This place is a must while you're in town. The history of the location along with the service and experience were all amazing. The food met my expectations and then some I would highly recommend the oyster bar to anyone that is in the area.

Yelp
By far one of my favorite spots in Fort Wayne! It's unique, quaint, and offers some of the freshest seafood in town. I usually order the fresh catch/chef's special, but you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Be sure to call ahead for reservations because there are only a handful of tables and maybe 8 seats at the bar rail.

Yelp
Went for savor Ft Wayne but have been here several times in the past. The food is always fresh and delicious. I loved the tuna tartare. Black and bleu salmon was very good, the bleu cheese was not over powering in the dish. Cioppino flavors were decent, but on the heavier side than I'm used to. Their bread is hot and fresh too. Full bar and cocktails here are strong. Our service this time was okay but we've definitely had better in the past here. It is VERY small inside but that's what makes it the oyster bar.

Jerre C.

Yelp
It was Savor Fort Wayne so we decided to go to The Oyster Bar. As usual, the service was great. The entrees were so-so. Not what we've come to expect. My husband ordered the Oyster Stew ( which always loves). The consistency was like gray mush. You could taste oysters but they were mixed up in the mush. Our waitress told us that the new owner changed the recipe. It certainly isn't a winner.

Yelp
Excellent value from years ago and i don't know about now. They had the best shrimp cocktail that u ever had. Loved their fish entres6.Good grub!

Yelp
Food was incredible, especially the calamari and oysters! The wait staff was friendly. The restaurant is dark but the ambiance is calm.

Yelp
The ambiance is very pleasant, with a cozy atmosphere that sets a nice tone. I'm a fan of their menu and specials. Although I can't recall the name of our waitress, she did an outstanding job--welcoming and incredibly helpful. The food was cooked to perfection, and the raw oysters were a highlight; you can't go wrong with them.

Yelp
Went for dinner the other night. It was just lovely. The four of us sat on the patio the weather was perfect and so was the food. I had calimari and Italian fish stew. It was excellent. The patio was great but the interior looked pretty much like it looked 100 years ago. So great atmosphere excellent food and the best server I have met in a long time. What else could you possibly want.

Yelp
Always amazing!!! Great atmosphere, service, great food been going there for years, very iconic place

Yelp
I want to start by mentioning the amazing server that took care of me tonight! Her name was Mary K and she was excellent with her suggestions and hospitality The food was delicious and the atmosphere was wonderful! Definitely a gem here in Fort Wayne! 10/10 would recommend

Yelp
We had a table of 5 and everything that we had was amazing! The history of the building is really cool and the ambiance is incredibly homey and welcoming. There is a big lot with free parking attached too. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
Simply awesome! That should be enough for my review!! But damn it, Yelp; you gotta have more. So.. here.. we.. GO!! : Celebrating our 24th wedding anniversary, and my lovely wife and I came to The Oyster Bar! Let's not waste time, Let's not bore you with all the details because everything... I MEAN EVERYTHING, we ordered was awesome!! Period! Done! We had the Prawn Shrimp Cocktail, a half dozen Chesapeake Oysters (one was an elephant ear...lol), Caesar salads with and without Anchovies, Seafood Au gratin, and the Diver Scallops!! We drank craft beers, martinis, and margaritas!! We finished the evening with the Carrot Cake! Everything was great! Absolutely no complaints! And I haven't even seen the bill yet, and I don't care! Worth every penny!!

Yelp
The seafood is excellent at the Oyster Bar. I highly recommend the Black & Blue Oysters. The service is excellent and they make everyone feel like you are home. I had the Mahi Mahi special which I also recommend.

Yelp
My boyfriend really wanted clam chowder, so I took the opportunity to return to a place I haven't been since I was much younger. It really hasn't changed. Neighborhood bar atmosphere, with cozy seating. The food was good. The better half had the clam chowder I had the po-boy, and served quickly by our server who was very attentive with the bread and beverages. It's a very Midwestern, what you see is what you get, kind of place.

Sirria C.

Yelp
Food is amazing, Service always well, the ambiance is cool just a little tight when crowded!

Yelp
This is one of those hidden gems in town. We were here for a business dinner with a large group and I was wonder where we would be seated! Well, it turns out that they have a small room on the back where you can fit a group this size. They had a new waitress helping us and I liked that they had a second waiter taking our orders silently on the back to ensure they had it all right. Drinks were always timely provided and so was food! This is the best part! We ordered a few appetizers and both were great! Since I love spicy food, my favorite was the oyster bar shrimps. They come with a side of blue cheese which adds a lot of flavor to it! I ordered the Seafood Au Grautin and it was melting! Also it was very hot, but it was delicious. There was also plenty of it and I certainly did not eat it all... too many apps? My partners ordered different dishes and one of them loved the baby back ribs. They were tender and juicy. The filet mignon was also huge and tasty. As we were leaving they had the patio full! Weather was so nice that we entirely missed this option. The one thing you will find interesting is if you need to seat on the back room, you have to walk through their kitchen , which made me wonder how they could make these delicious plates in such a small kitchen. Bathrooms are also small but, does it matter? Coming back with my wife!

Yelp
Always the best seafood. Ive been many times and never disappointed..Terrific oysters looking forward to eating here next month when back to Fort Wayne.

Michael M.

Yelp
A longtime local standard for great seafood in a local tavern setting with solid service. Great to see the owners in the back & on the floor checking in on their patrons!

Pete B.

Yelp
Best restaurant in town, hands down. Food is consistently fresh and properly cooked! The cocktails are also pretty terrific too.

Jane E B.

Yelp
It's simply my favorite restaurant in Fort Wayne. A+ food and presentation, attentive service, and fabulous ambiance. Tradition!

Yelp
If you come to Fort Wayne and don't come to the Oyster Bar you are missing out. This a very unique experience. The food was outstanding and the service was excellent. I had the shrimp cocktail, filet with scallops and it was all fantastic. I highly recommend.

Yelp
Oyster bar is currently my favorite restaurant in Ft Wayne. The oysters are fresh, meaty, and top notch. I really like their very unique "half and half" which they will split most entrees and let you try 2 for a $2 up charge. What a great way to sample the menu. We will be back

Jennifer S.

Yelp
First time and everything was delicious. Mussels & clams, oysters and did the half & half - prawns and scallops. Every bite was fantastic! Service was on point! Tight seating so we chatted with our new friends.

Yelp
Clam Chowder was fabulous, Seafood Casserole was Fantastic! Referred to by a sub contractor Glad I went, will be back weekly till I leave area.

Yelp
We have been here twice. Each has been worth the trip (160 miles round trip). Monday we celebrated our 52 wedding anniversary there. Such a delight! We were very happy that we had made a reservations since they were packed. Our oysters on the half shell or wonderful! My husband had lamb and he thoroughly enjoyed it. Portion was large enough to take some home. I had scallops seared to perfection. I didn't take any home because they were so good! We will come back again for another special occasion!

Yelp
After enjoying the Oyster Bar for over 30 years, our experience there on Friday 12/15 has terminated our many years of patronage. Under new ownership, the quality of the food has deteriorated, new host and wait staff are not warm and welcoming. Only the bar remains the same. When we walked in, the hostess couldn't find our name but then of course it was there. The seating area was too crowded. Our meals were so disappointing. As we were wrapping up our less than great meal, the hostess comes up and tells us people have been waiting a long time for our table, and please leave. I have witnesses. Rude.

James B.

Yelp
Bar service was excellent. Drinks were huge. Walleye and Chowder were great. Atmosphere was very nice. You are not going to get out of this place with a cheap bill, but you wont leave feeling that you have just been ripped off like some of the other fine dining restaurants I have visited in Ft. Wayne. A + A + A +
google avatar

Larry S.

Yelp
Wow. Everything was excellent! The clam chowder was probably the best I've ever had anywhere in my 40 years of tasting clam chowder from around the country. Joe, the chef was great to talk with and easy going. We will be back when in the area. Thanks again!

Brad H.

Yelp
The food was ok. I had half rack lamb and it seemed too much sauce. The service was iffy. The waitress seemed to have a bit of an attitude with the staff and showed with us. Seemed to have an issue with me asking for water and overflowed on our table. The room is small and cramped. It's very tight everywhere you go and the bathrooms are about 2x 3 if that gives an idea. First time going and probably the last.

Larry H.

Yelp
Really enjoyed our time here and our server, LESLIE, was awesome. She made the night. Food was outstanding. But one thing: our food from apps through entrees was lukewarm at best. Serve it hot!

Steve H.

Yelp
Outstanding food. Very small and quaint place. Make sure to make reservations ahead of time but the food will definitely be worth the wait.

Ingrid G.

Yelp
What a gem! Would highly recommend parmesan baked oysters. Halibut special was cooked perfectly, as were the steaks.

Yelp
This place has been around for years and the chef right now is creating some incredible dishes. This is a must go to for at least lunch service is fantastic and friendly and great local establishment.

Yelp
My husband and I had the pleasure of eating dinner here last Wednesday for my birthday. My husband ordered oysters as his appetizer. He said they were the largest oysters he's ever eaten. We ate the Mahi Mahi special of the night. I ate a delicious shrimp cocktail made with 4 giant prawns, the cocktail sauce was perfectly spiced, the Mahi Mahi flaked well and moist, pasta and crisp tender vegetables nestled in a creamy sauce was so tasty, crème brûlée yummy! The entire dinner was excellent! And our wonderful server, Julie, with such expertise tended to all our needs without any delay. This restaurant is now our favorite seafood restaurant in Fort Wayne! We will definitely return for another dinner soon.

Yelp
Consumer beware..... first, the food, drinks, service are amazing. I would come here again, and would recommend coming here to others. My only complaint, albeit seemingly small, and potentially petty, is based on principal. I came here with a group for the "savor Fort Wayne" menu. Gratuity was automatically added, which we were all aware of and fine with. My issue though is the tip on ALL bills was calculated with tax included. Gratuity is ALWAYS figured on the subtotal (pre tax) not on the total. We mentioned this to the waitress and she wasn't aware that was an issue. She asked if she could correct anything and I declined a correction, but noted that they should at least be aware they're charging customers incorrectly for gratuity.

Yelp
This is a hard review to write. I have yearned to stop in The Oyster Bar since moving to The Fort a few years ago. Good seafood is hard to come by in the Midwest. So I put off visiting until I had a good excuse. ... So my daughter, her husband and an adult grandson visited this week and had researched the city. It turned out my son-in-law loves oysters on the half shell. So the Oyster Bar was on our schedule! I had great expectations!! (Most reviews are great.) Everyone loved the ambiance, the history, and the photos on the walls. The oysters on the half shell, the walleye and crab legs were all excellent.... However, there a few cons that must be mentioned. The chairs were extremely uncomfortable and must have been in service since the 1800s. The front doors were so heavy that it made it hard to open for most seniors. (They need a door man.) ...When my son- in-law used the bathroom he returned to the table and commented that "his wife had a pack of gum in her purse that was bigger!" Then the the oyster stew....and the Oyster Rockefeller... what an disappointment! The oyster stew was watery and tasteless. I've had Campbell soup that had more flavor. There was a couple of tough little oysters down at the bottom and it was inedible without adding salt, pepper and hot sauce. Wow! The oyster Rockefeller was topped with something that tasted like a combination of tarragon or mint that totally overwhelmed the other flavors. Bummer! I expected a fine dining experience but instead found an mediocre restaurant that-seems to be declining and resting on its laurels.

Yelp
Oyster Bar Tonight's experience was one NOT to remember. To begin, I made reservations several weeks ago. I asked not to be seated near the door but while asking I heard a notable sigh on the other end of the phone - as if I was asking too much. Checking in tonight we were - surprise surprise - seated next to the door. Our server was curt, pushy, hurried & generally not interested in us. Let's be clear, I am the customer. However at no time was I rude or over stepping. I was NOT acting entitled. I AM choosing Oyster Bar. I AM choosing to give them my time & money. There is a quid pro quo here that should be understood but as it turned out was not honored. As if being hurried was bad enough I was insulted by being charged an additional $2.95 to have my martinis put into a martini glass - you know with a stem. Insulting. Outrageous. Are you serious. I am NOT planning another evening at Oyster Bar. I'd like to give zero stars but I can't. As an aside, stop gouging your patrons looking for pre-covid profits.

Al S.

Yelp
Love the atmosphere, food was excellent, excellent service. One of the best places in Ft Wayne. Love the ability to order half of two meals. Baked oysters are a must.

The Original F.

Yelp
I have been an Oyster Bar customer for the last 25 years. Tonight, my experience under the new ownership was less than mediocre. We arrived on time and were not greeted promptly and cordially. We were treated like we were interrupting the staffs conversation and good time together . The savor Fort Wayne event was happening and we decided to try this select menu. The usually fabulous clam chowder was bland. The clams and potatoes were nowhere to be found in them. Our salmon arrived next and was undercooked and unspectacular. I can make better salmon than this at home. Finally, we chose a chocolate cake offering for dessert. It tasted like someone bought this at Walmart and covered it with Betty Crocker frosting. Our server did a fair job with this subpar menu. I'm glad she did, because they automatically tacked on 20% due to this mediocre promotion menu. Needless to say, we won't be back for a long time.
google avatar

Melody C.

Yelp
I had the raw oysters and the oyster soup. The oyster soup very creamy, almost too creamy. I'm glad I only got a cup of it because it was so rich I would not be able to finish a whole bowl. The raw oysters were alright, considering Fort Wayne is landlocked. The appetizer bread was really good, it had herbs and some sort of savory (maybe cheese) powder on it. Their other entrees look and smell really good and I'd be open to visiting again, but I wouldn't order the oysters. They weren't bad but also weren't good enough for me to want to order them again.
google avatar

Dan G.

Yelp
Went here to try during Savor week. Terribly disappointed. Tried 3 different meals and 2 of them were barley edible. Fish was over cooked and tough. Best bet is to spend your dinning out dollars elsewhere

Heather C.

Yelp
It was our first time there and loved everything! The restaurant it's self is small but it adds to the experience. The staff were very helpful and pleasant.
google avatar

Michael W.

Yelp
The worse service I've ever had at any restaurant in Fort Wayne. The food was mediocre. I've never had a restaurant staff retaliate because I complained about having to wait for my steak that was 20 minutes later than everyone else's meal at the table. I'll never do business with that place again, and we eat every meal out.
