Palmerston

"For something a bit different, head to this beautifully converted former bank; now a buzzy café-cum-restaurant-cum-bar. Sit at polished bistro tables and enjoy unfussy dishes with European touches – the pies for 2 are a hit. Local beers, a carefully curated wine list and friendly service complete the picture." - Michelin Inspector

A comfortable, rustic atmosphere that does comfortable and rustic so well. The three of us shared three appetizers, three mains, and three desserts and it was all delicious. In particular, it was the best goat I’ve ever had. Not gamey at all. The squid was tender and delicious. The slow roast pork loin - we could have ordered two more for dessert. The desserts were all delicious, particularly the malt ice cream with honeycomb. Finished with a glass of Sauternes. Very nice and highly recommended. A place to go if you want to dress casually, and feel like you are going to your grandmother’s farm who picks the finest from her own farm.

Overall we add a lovely dinner at The Palmerston. Service was excellent and they did their best to accommode us with our restrictions. On top we had a good chat with on of the waiters. We like the place and the vibes, casual. Place can be a bit noisy but it’s part of it. Food wise, for sure we enjoyed the dishes and appreciated the food but we did had a tiny issue with the seasoning … unfortunately on first plate (burrata and peas) didn’t have any making it tasteless and at the opposite the turbot was over. Well It happens sometimes… Anyway we had a great time and we will recommend this place !

We had a fantastic experience here. The service was first class - attentive and professional without being fussy or hovering. The food was absolutely superb from starter to dessert - fresh, full of flavour with good portions. It was great to see choices that we wouldn't cook at home, such as Jerusalem artichokes and lamb offal - all cooked to perfection. Drinks, particularly cocktails were imaginative and delicious. I wasn't a fan of the long wine list and particularly the only measures offered as 125ml and bottle. A polite request for a more user friendly list, maybe with some 175ml or sharing carafes would be perfect...? Eating at The Palmerston was easily a highlight of our Edinburgh visit and we loved it here. I'd be back anytime, this place is special.

The Palmerston never disappoints!! My favourite place to eat in Edinburgh! I love sitting at the bar with some plates, nice wine or negronis. The service and attention to detail is always exceptional. Love!! A must if in Edinburgh.

I had high hopes for this place as the daily menus and high quality ingredients really drew me in. However I have to say I was disappointed. The food was fine, a little on the salty side for me. The service was ok but not what I expected to be coupled with such a high end menu. Twice a server reached over the top of my head whilst I was eating to either place or pick something up from our table without warning which was very disconcerting. I just feel like it was overpriced for the experience.

It’s hardly surprising this is such a popular venue with the menu including a wide selection of locally brewed craft beers from Newbarns. Allow at least 90 minutes for the 3 course set lunch.

Fantastic lunch at Palmerston. Staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. Atmosphere and decor of the restaurant was stunning. Beer, cocktails and wine all tasty and a they have a wide and extensive offering. Finally, the food was absolutely sublime. Cannot recommend a visit to The Palmerston enough! A must visit for anyone in Edinburgh. Cant wait to come back!

A superb experience. All staff have an in-depth knowledge of the dishes and wine, something which is increasingly rare, even in fine dining restaurants in the UK. We had a duck sharer special, which was phenomenal. We also really appreciate that the venue is dog -friendly. We will be back!
