The Palmerston

Went for lunch with a 2:30pm booking and the place was fully booked clearly very popular. The atmosphere was lively and vibrant without feeling overwhelming. We had the tagliatelle ragù and the chicken, and both were exceptional. Great depth of flavour and very well executed. Maybe a downside was the price, around £78 for 2 mains (pork snitzel without many garnish and pasta maybe on smaller scale) half a pint and 2 deserts, which i felt is a bit steep for lunch. Overall excellent food in a great setting just be aware of the pricing.

Non-stop perfect sourdough, could you really ask for anything better? I can easily come here everyday just for the sourdough😁 All in all, food was excellent. We ordered the pig's head, buratta, brill, and roasted chicken. Every dishes were cooked to perfection, the protein are all very succulent and well-seasoned, no excess components—everything contribute to the perfecting of the dish. Love my Irish coffee, warm, sweet, creamy, tad bit punchy; home-made sodas and nice selections of whiskey. The team is very friendly and helpful, making the dining experience feels real comfortable.

First meal after driving into Edinburgh and we honestly couldn’t have picked a better spot. The Palmerston came highly recommended by Topjaw, and it fully lived up to it. Chill, unfussy space, really good vibes, and just solid food done right. Nothing trying too hard,l, great cooking, and exactly what you want after a long drive. Everything we had was comforting, satisfying, and made us slow down and actually enjoy the moment. Walking out, we both felt like, okay yeah, this trip’s off to a good start. If this was our first meal in Edinburgh, we knew the food scene was going to treat us well. Would happily go back again.

Best meal of our vacation. The vibe was perfect. Quiet, but unpretentious. Filled with neighborhood locals impressing their friends. Waiter was funny but professional. You can tell everything is locally sourced and super fresh. Zucchini appeared twice on their menu, and was as good as it gets. Even fried as an appetizer, the actual flavor of the vegetable was prominent. I had lamb, the wife had pasta. Both were excellent. They had some unique cocktails that were well thought out. I saw people eat quickly and leave, and other tables linger for a long time. It's that kind of place where you have the kind of meal you want.

Amazing food in such a beautiful space. The staff are all lovely and it definitely lives up to its reputation. The whole experience feels very relaxed but incredibly well done. Would highly reccomend visiting the Palmerston!

Amazing lunch. Highly recommend. Thank you to our brilliant waiter who saved the day by rebooking us when I accidentally cancelled. This was by far the best meal on our 4 day visit to Edinburgh. Both mains and both puddings outstanding. And the coffee negroni! Thank you for the recipe :) The Taylors x

Had been meaning to try The Palmerston for ages – it feels like a bit of an Edinburgh institution now – so finally went for Sunday lunch. Definitely worth booking ahead. We started with the burrata with broccoli and a rabbit tagine. Both were genuinely great – loads of flavour and felt really well put together - highlight if the meal. For mains, I had the pork schnitzel. It was tasty and the herb crust was lovely, but it was a touch on the dry side – still enjoyable, but after the starts were so good it was a little less exciting. The space itself has a nice relaxed feel, with tons of natural light coming through the windows, which makes it a really pleasant place to sit for a slow lunch. Overall: very glad we finally went. Would definitely go back, maybe to try something different for the main next time.

Really nice place, good atmosphere and exceptional baked goods. Lots of seating but it does get busy and coffee and pastry is take away only from 11am The pastry was fantastic but they bought my coffee over full of black flakes! No idea what they were but the member of staff had to have seen them either when pouring it or serving but decided it give it to me anyway. It’s a foolish way to devalue what they do. Everyone else I was with had perfect products so I just got unlucky.
