Papermoon Diner – Baltimore, Maryland - Gastro Obscura

"When restaurateur Un Kim took over a West Baltimore diner in 1994, the 24-7 joint’s decor included simple booths and plastic plates. Over the years, Kim has transformed the eatery into a temple of kitsch, amassing a dazzling collection of pop culture paraphernalia. Now, mannequins rule the roost. They lean against the walls, jutting out their flirtatious hips; they glisten in suits made of buttons and scales made of eyes; they twist under the weight of mobs of plastic toys; and they lounge on the lawn like psychedelic gnomes. Meanwhile, plastic limbs search for their owners and carousel horses hang overhead like the ponies of paranoid dreams. Quirky, at times creepy, Papermoon is definitely distinct. Kim transformed the barebones eatery into a destination alongside her friend, designer David Briskie. They scour nearby second-hand shops to create an ever-changing display that Kim calls “living art.” Customers have gotten in on the game, with one former Pez dispenser manufacturer so tickled by the place, he gifted the diner his personal Pez collection. There are plenty of offbeat favorites to be found on the menu, as well. Papermoon serves a lengthy list of sandwiches and snacks, Southern staples such as shrimp and grits, breakfast classics (served all day), and creative milkshakes, including bacon and Cap’n Crunch varieties. Know Before You Go Papermoon is open from 9 a.m.- 8 p.m. every day except for Tuesday. Papermoon also doesn't take reservations and will only seat a minimum of two people at peak times, so if you’re looking for some solo brunchin’ or aren’t down to wait up to 45 minutes, it’s best to go off-peak. While the festive atmosphere just begs for a birthday party, you can’t bring balloon party favors or noisemakers, so leave those kazoos at home. Not recommended for people afraid of mannequins." - teddrake, Collector of Experiences, sadbread99, Toriaroscuro, chasepopt, elainemellis, Reina Gattuso, e elainemellis

The food is absolutely delicious, servings are generous, and it was presented in a way that made it even look delicious. The Southern Love burger was almost more than I could eat because we also got the triple appetizer. My friend got a cheese quesadilla, and she said it was delicious. We both thought the fries were amazing. Milkshakes were also great! We both took home leftovers. The staff are wonderful and they all work together to give excellent service.

Google
Papermoon Diner is one of the most unique spots in Baltimore. The outside is wild and colorful, and the inside is packed with toys, dolls, action figures, and over-the-top decor that makes it feel like an art installation-meets-retro diner. I had the Whole Lotta Burger and sweet potato fries, both were delicious. The burger was juicy and cooked perfectly, and the fries were crispy on the outside and soft inside. Plenty of parking across the street, great service, and just an all-around fun, funky place to grab a bite. Definitely worth a visit if you want good food in a totally unforgettable setting!

Google
This is such a unique diner and I highly recommend. The atmosphere is artsy and fun. The food is super good and the staff is friendly. The decor can be a bit creepy for children (just know your child) but it’s got a lot of artistic pieces and concepts that are pretty cool!

The inside is a lot of fun to look at if it isn't crowded. The day I went half of the place was closed off but still a lot to look at. Our server was polite enough. They recommended a sandwich which I ordered & enjoyed. The food was tasty but expensive for what was offered.

Google
This place is very interesting. All the toys are great for kids. If you like eye-spy while waiting for your food, then this place is for you. There was a 30 min wait for a table for lunch, but after 1pm, the wait was none. The food choices are just as interesting as the decor. Avocado on a burger, ginger in grilled cheese, and massive mushroom sandwich.

Shawn Rashid

Google
Quirky place, never been to a diner with these designs. The food and service was great, I recommend the breakfast platters and pairing with a milkshake

First time this place, I came for breakfast and got the chocolate chips pancakes. The decor in this place is interesting/intriguing—— a trip back in time on decades—-if you are 40+ the items on the walls will activate a lot of childhood memories. The other aspect of the decoration, I will leave it for you to experience yourself. Check that out!

Yelp
A truly quirky, fun, one of a kind place. If you want fresh, good, home cooking being served out of the funkiest joint you've ever seen. Look no further than the Paper Moon. The place is covered floor to across the ceiling with odds and ends of times gone by. My partner and I played I spy while we waited for our food and it was so much fun. (Look don't touch please) The waiters were really attentive to us and served everything really quickly and got our food out to us quickly. And the food itself was so freaking good. I wish I had room for everything but the portions were huge. It can get busy here, as it's a tourist destination. But we're locals and came at 10 on a Saturday and had literally no wait. I think this is truly one of the must see and eats in baltimore.

Yelp
I took a friend to Papermoon the other day as they are new to Baltimore and have never been. I always love to take people to Papermoon that are from out of town because its very *funky* and I love that about the place! Always a fun time seeing my friends just look around in total amazement! 10/10 decor. The service was also very nice! We went mid-week so it was easy to get a table and the host and server were sooo nice. We were going to split our breakfast ourselves, but they were kind enough to come ask us if we wanted them to just split it all in the kitchen. We really appreciated that! The food...is the reason why I had to give the place 4 stars. Ive been going here for years and I love to take out of towners to papermoon ...but the reason why I would never go on any other normal day is because the food isnt really anything special. It tastes good, but it doesnt really stand out in my opinion. But the decor is just SO cool, so it will always have my business when a friend is visiting! What we ordered (We split the order): French Toast + Chicken Sausage + Eggs

Yelp
Went in on a busy weekend. No wait for a table at all. Parking was plentiful, with space on the street as well as a private lot. The staff was very friendly, with all the servers rotating based on who wasn't busy, which seemed to be more efficient. The decode was classic. Toys and other kitchen from the past 75 years all over the walls and hanging from the ceiling. A wall of Pez dispensers greets you as you walk in, including a full set from OCC. The menu is quite large, with a wide variety of selections. The meal arrived, and was exactly what I wanted and needed. I had the "Big Dipper" which is a tasty eggs in a basket affair done with Brioche. The check came at just the right time, and we were done just as quickly. I look forward to trying some other selections from the menu on future visits'

Yelp
Pez dispenser bathroom - enough said. Paper moon is a hipster dive diner in Remington. It's a neighborhood and Baltimore staple. You'll notice from the entrance it looks like a consignment shop. This was only my second time in and was glad to see it was still very busy on a Sunday afternoon. They don't offer booze here it's a classic diner fare with a Balitmore twist. I got the sausage gravy and brioche with a side of home fries and my Texas heart was happy. The coffee was slightly cold but good. I swear they used to have biscuits but they don't anymore. Last time we came, we paid at the register but now they will take payment at your table. The decorations are fun to look at. You won't go wrong by coming here for a diner breakfast. Nothing healthy here!

Yelp
Very fun establishment + delicious food. Seems like a solid vegetarian and LGBTQ+ friendly brunch spot. Service was insanely fast - we could have been in and out in 30 minutes if needed. I would recommend getting there early or be comfortable with waiting. I went at about 10:30 am and there was a line of people following behind as well as when we left.

Yelp
Let's start by saying that the true reason you go here is the decor. NOT the food. If you are willing to eat mediocre-at-best diner food, to sacrifice a meal (and your wallet) just to look at the place...then at least I've done my job by warning you! With that being said, this place is awesomely decorated and super fun!!! Nostalgic, creepy, silly, colorful, literally all the words! Food...we ordered a quesadilla and the triple play which was a sampler platter with fries, chicken tenders, and mozz sticks. The fries were bomb though, ill give them that, The quesadilla I honestly wanted to send it back but didn't want to be a KAREN! UGH. Chicken tenders were fine, mozz sticks were pretty bad. Our server was fine, she was super quiet and could barely hear her. And then she kind of forgot about us, someone else gave us our check.

Yelp
I stupidly thought this place was opened until 8... they are not. They are opened until 6. I showed up at about 5:30pm but they did say we would have enough time to order and eat so I proceeded. The only downside for me was that the milkshake machine wasn't working. I really really really wanted to try that Bacon Milkshake and my husband wanted to try the Peanut Butter Madness. I guess if we ever get down to Maryland again, we will try it out but that was disappointing. For our entrees, my husband had the 'Cranberry Melt' which was smoked turkey breast, cranberry sauce, & havarti on grilled white bread. He loved it and said it was the best meal we had in Maryland. I got the 'Grilled Cheese with Mango Chutney' which was grilled multigrain bread, havarti, mango chutney, caramelized onions, & spinach. I agree with my husband... best meal we had in Maryland. It was super flavorful and that mango chutney was just delicious. The menu is a good size which lots of options. I loved looking around and seeing all the old toys, board games, mannequins, pez, etc. I love old toys and this was great. I did wonder around the restaurant to see all the toys and objects and signs. The service was super fast (probably because they wanted to leave lol) but it was still good service! I would definitely be back and would recommend.

Yelp
This has a zany exterior and interior. It certainly has character! We ordered a few breakfast dishes that were all good. The stand out was the Spring Egg dish. At first it seemed too healthy (like I had accidentally ordered a bowl of spinach with egg on top) until I dug under a bit and found the delcious potato cake underneath. That added precisely what was missing. I woukd go back for that dish. The milkshakes have to be ordered first thing because it takes so long to make them. I didn't think they were anything worth a 40 minute wait. We got ours the same time as the check. The bacon one was cool though and an enjoyable flavor.

Yelp
The decor alone gives this place high ratings. It's just a very cool place to be and look around and even take some pictures. GLOWS: -Service was effective and efficient -The parking lot across the street is helpful with tight parking in the area -The kids enjoyed the brownie sundae... i would personally need less chocolate syrup. -The French toast sandwich was very tasty. GROWS: -The prices are above average for diner food. -The turkey burger had a good flavor but I wish it was so much more to it for $20.

Yelp
We came here early this morning to catch breakfast around 9am. I love the visual feast that greets all visitors to Papermoon Diner-- mannequins decorated with buttons and copper pennies, quirky curiosities, and a well-maintained garden. We were seated immediately, there were only a few people dining as we arrived. We had the Breakfast Burrito and the Egg Christo-- both were de-licious. Our servers were attentive to keep the coffee flowing and checked on us quickly a couple of times. It's really hard for me to concentrate on conversation at the Papermoon because I am constantly trying to visually absorb all of the memories from my childhood that are here. This place is soaking in nostalgia. By the time we left, Papermoon Diner was hopping with many Sunday Brunchers. Thank you, Papermoon, we will be back.

Yelp
Like every other review here: Come for the pretty good food, stay for the incredibly weird decor. Or maybe vice versa? It's good at any rate. In addition to diner classics, there are some more unusual (at least to me) dishes, like this potato cake and asparagus tower with hollandaise (very rich, pretty tasty).

Yelp
There is a small restaurant chain in the Boston/New Hampshire area which I visit as often as I can called The Friendly Toast. Papermoon Diner is Friendly Toast on steroids and ... substances. Just about every square inch of wall and ceiling space above the wainscotting is filled with something. Now I know why I can't find Pez dispensers anywhere. Now I know where some of my old toys and games disappeared, probably by some gremlin in the middle of the night. Anyway... the menu has both traditional and eclectic options. I wanted to consider the bacon milkshake, just because, but the need for coffee was stronger. My group got a variety of breakfast and lunch items. Everything was delicious, and everything came out quickly. I do feel that for the price you pay on various entrees, you certainly get more for your money with certain choices over others, especially given the cost of the ingredients to prepare them. Staff attitude was slightly inconsistent. Our host had a difficult time managing a smile when we interacted, but everyone else was filled with humor and wit and banter, and it was a pleasure to be served by them. This is a place everyone should visit at least once when in Baltimore; I'd go much more often personally.

Yelp
Good food with good portions, and the server was both attentive and friendly. I only wish there had been music playing when I was there. Their food is a unique blend of Southern and NJ-esque diner food. A little expensive when only the food is considered, but well worth it for the artsy environment you're able to dine in.

Yelp
Unique atmosphere and design. We were greeted at the door , as soon as we were seated we received a glass of water and immediately out drink order was taken ... I then ordered Shrimp and Grits which was tasty ( they can leave off the ham sauce , I would prefer creole sauce, any other type of sauce. Service was ok .. Maya could have smiled and act like she wanted to be at or at least greeted us like the host
google avatar

Yelp
Came here on a rainy Saturday morning and surprisingly it wasn't busy at all! We were able to walk right in and get a table for two! Woah! Almost never happens! Shortly after we sat down we were greeted and our drink and food orders were taken. The food didn't take to long to come out. I got the spring egg, it's my go too for this restaurant, I really like the potato pancake and the spinach to cut the richness of the sauce. There's always so much to look at on the inside and outside, I think they may have even changed some things around, always fun to look at the old toys!

Yelp
papermoondiner offers a quirky dining experience with lively, eccentric decor.‍ They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner ALL DAY & have a list of unique shakes including a Bacon Milkshake and a Chunky Monkey Milkshake !! - We we're seated as soon as we walked in. Service was excellent as was the f * The diner offers vegan and gluten free entrees. * Not recommended for individuals afraid of mannequins.

Yelp
Ive been going here for years. It's definitely change and that's fine. However, the service, we asked a few times for an item to our order . The waitress acknowledged us and the missing item but never came back to give us our food. She in fact came by to hand us the check, never brining us out our whole order. Ive never had that at any restaurant. It was like she was telling us to leave . I dont typically dont give bad reviews on yelp, I dont like to do that to businesses. But this one really let me down.

Kim P.

Yelp
Happy Accident!! This place is phenomenal and should be rated way higher than a menial 3.5 stars!! First of all the place itself is the MOST unique establishment we have ever been to...ever. The staff is as friendly as you would expect them to be in a place like this. The food was delicious I had the Breakfast Quesadilla. There is so much to look at...it was like eating in an antique toy museum! I don't think the smile left my face for an hour after leaving.

Yelp
Rude and condescending service !! I hadn't been to paper moon in maybe 15 years and I couldn't remember why. I went in today for breakfast around 10am on a Friday there's maybe 5-6 people in the entire restaurant. I'm on my professional work clothes with a laptop back pad and I'm on the phone. I stand by the host stand and I'm greeted by a waiter with " I'll be with you in a minute " Not really a fan of greetings like that but I let it slide. He comes back says " What can I do for you? ". At this point I'm like hmmmm a little rude but some people aren't quite trained on appropriate greetings so again I let it slide . I let him know I need a table for 1 and he attempts to seat me at weird table that sits up very high and kind of skinny but the chairs low. This was going to be a working breakfast so I needed a table that was level. I asked him if I could be seated at another table. I asked I could sit at one of many empty 4 top tables. He said no those are 4 larger parties. He then take me to another 2 top table but this one was also small. So I'm informed him I needed to be at a table where I could use my laptop. He responded theres no where for you to plug in a laptop. I replied .. I didn't ask you for a plug and left . He did not seem like he wanted to be there or wanted to be of service. Not a place I will be visiting again EVER !!

Yelp
I love this spot for the ambience alone, opened in 1994 this small place packs a lot of punch. Outdoor seating is beautiful and covered with a nice breeze. I wasn't a fan of the "crispy" chicken wrap but I loved looking around. Only one server waiting all the tables but he was great. Looking to come back and try something new off the menu
google avatar

Katy H.

Yelp
I'm surprised this place doesn't have a higher average review, honestly! I got the spring egg and it was delicious. Obviously the decor is fantastic. I will always make time on trips for a kitschy bar or restaurant and this place is one of my favorites I've been to as far as ambiance. I only had one person seat me and serve and they were great. Only did four stars just because things were pretty pricy and the home fries were quite meh. Otherwise everything was great!
google avatar

Yelp
Not something you see everyday that's for sure. Very eclectic but inviting and friendly. Space is very tight inside and it was packed. You can enjoy breakfast or lunch and dinner items. Parking is located across the street. Restroom was nice and clean.

Sam B.

Yelp
The breakfast is not what it use to be!!! If you get scrambled eggs , the use liquid or powdered eggs and the bacon was microwaved!!!

Yelp
OMG !!!! This place is freakin' awesome ... just think " OVERLOAD " Food : the menu first of all is overload, so many choices that it takes you awhile to decide what you want to try. Once you decide and your food arrives it's unbelievable from the presentation to the amount you get to the delicious taste. Visual: just arriving you are amazed at the artistry of mannequins that greets you. Then when you enter your mind is blown from the huge Pez collection, the disembodied doll heads staring at you from a glass cabinet to the everything that fills the restaurant This is a must for those that appreciate awesome food at a reasonable price to the interesting items throughout the place.

Yelp
Super funky and eclectic decor - we loved eating brunch in this diner! There are tens of thousands of trinkets adorning the walls and ceiling...it is such a delight for kids and adults alike to enjoy the kitschy surroundings. So much sensory overload! The entrance has tons of colorful pez dispensers too! The potato cakes with asparagus tower was absolutely delicious and unique! We also enjoyed the breakfast quesadilla, chocolate chip pancakes, eggwich, and coffee. Will definitely return again!!!

Yelp
I adore the Remington Community... The people, taverns, and eateries have always held a place in my heart.. Omw, out of town, so I decided a good ole nostalgic breakfast with PaperMoon... For us Baltimore when it comes to PaperMoon, if you know.. you know! *DON'T JUDGE THIS VERY INTERESTING BOOK BYVTHE COVER* Now today the food was a bit off but the svc was top notch and the atmosphere was fun, whimsical and entertaining.. I ordered a spinach, bacon & Goat Cheese Omelet with avocado & 1 sausage link on the side... I was soon instructed that we didn't have sausage.. Cool by me..MORE BACONNNNN!! N e who, my friend & I's good arrived and she was given sausage that they didn't have.. Again, ish happens! Although my Omelet was packed with bacon bits.. it lacked flavor, little cheese & my avocado was placed inside.. Again.. it may have been an off day but nonetheless..cool place to visit.. make sure yo order a milkshake & take lots of pics!!!

Yelp
This place is the wildest, trendiest, most eclectic restaurant i've been in. From the entrance you can tell that this place has been one big curation for years. Art and toys mash together along with a succulent menu makes for a good reason to stop by. I had an awesome burger and a killer caramel salted milkshake. The caramel is handmade every day. We sat in the back where you could get a good view of all of the decorations and vintage toys from days gone by. You really don't have to talk to anyone just stare at all of the things in the restaurant. A great find, great food, and great experience. Give it a try. Cheers

Yelp
Quirky is the best description of this totally fun off the main drag Baltimore eatery!! Thank goodness my friends knew where they were going because it is easy to get off on the wrong path in Baltimore but the Papermoon is definitely worth the experience. Ahh but the experience wasn't priceless and I hate to make this notation up front but it seems that once you are seated and served .... you are left forgotten amidst all the cool toys and memorabilia! I almost had to do jumping jacks to get my water refilled and that was my beverage. The wait staff were all smiles and busy but when you have a table full of people you should stop by and say 'hey' every once in a while. A relatively simple menu but my jerk chicken wrap was pretty darn awesome and the friends who chose the place had "the usual" even though they live a state away from Maryland. Clearly they enjoy coming back for the same thing ... I admit to being more adventurous. We did note that the milkshake machine must have taken a siesta because the young man in our. group who ordered one waiting and waited but suddenly it seemed like every table in the room was having milkshakes delivered to some happy person. Baltimore offers many options for dining but if you have kids or feel like a kid while you are in Charm City then come discover just how many Pez dispensers were made because I think they have one of each of them at the Paper Moon! And, before you order a shake ask for the wait time ....

Yelp
I have eaten here in years past several times and loved the food. Today I ordered the sausage gravy meal and a blueberry pancake. Gravy had an odd taste, maybe too much nutmeg or something but was less than average taste and almost no sausage. Pancake came out raw in the middle and had 3 blueberries. Friend ordered basil, mozzarella omelet and it had no basil in it. She ordered multigrain toast and got rye. Host was rude when I came to front to pay after waiting and no server came to table. And cost was $50. So sad to see service and food quality decline.

William J.

Yelp
I ride by here all the time and and have only eaten here twice. I can't remember what I had the first time but I'm obsessed with shrimp and grits. This place made a list of the best shrimp & grits in the city so I had to come check it out. I got it to go but it was empty enough to eat inside. I'm not a fan of super close seating. Customer service was great! It was more "soupy" than I'm used to but I still loved it! Had a nice spice to it and the portion size filled me up. I'd definitely get it again or try other dishes.

Yelp
BALTIMORE, MD: We dropped in after seeing epic numbers of Google reviews (sorry Yelp, I was driving), and had a wonderful lunch. The place is an artistic dreamscape; unbelievable amounts of kitsch everywhere. You have to see it; like all the old toys from Toy Story came alive and made themselves into an arrangement before going back to sleep. We had two items: Monte Cristo Sandwich: (5 stars): Top 10 sandwiches I've ever had. Would eat it again tomorrow. Savory smoked ham and Turkey between two thick slices of French toast covered in maple syrup! EPIC Cheese Steak: (3 stars) it was fine. Service was outstanding.

Yelp
My daughter is a freshman at a local college, so i decided to explore the local favorites. The decorations opened a dialog that exposed the obvious generational gap, and the food was good. My daughter opted for the shrimp and grits with which she was happy to take home for leftovers. I had some play on french toast that was satisfying.

Yelp
Normally I have no complaints about papermoon, because I love coming here and the food is great. But this time, the service was questionable. My boyfriend and I came in and were seated per usual and we got our drinks. One of the waitresses took our order and we got 2 burgers. She didn't write our order down, nor asked how we wanted our burgers cooked, but we didn't mind at first. We waited 40+ minutes for our food to never come out. People that came in AFTER us received their food on time before us and were already paying for their checks. At this point I was starting to question if our waitress ever put in our order. My boyfriend even called her over and asked how much longer it would be, she said only a couple more minutes. So we waited.. and waited. It was moderately busy, which I understand. It's a Sunday afternoon. But waiting 40+ minutes for 2 burgers seemed out of hand. Eventually another server came to our table and asked if our order was taken yet. lol. I told him what the situation was and he told us he can make the food for us real quick. He was honestly more accommodating than our waitress. Honestly, there was no point in waiting even longer, so my boyfriend and I left. I'm really disappointed because I have never had this experience every time I've dined at Papermoon. I hope this doesn't happen again.

James B.

Yelp
Oof. Papermoon needs to hold an in-service training day for their staff. There were so many points during our visit on a Sunday morning where it was clear that the sequence of service is just not a trained or valued concept at this quirkily decorated, once-treasured neighborhood diner-style spot. Upon the arrival of two of our party of three, we were greeted by a "NO CASH" sign and informed that we could not be seated until our party was complete. A typical tactic of busy restaurants but usually bodes well for prompt service. Five minutes later, our party was complete and we were seated at a corner table. They really cram you into this place - I felt like my back was pressed against the back of a fellow diner behind me. Another five minutes later, waters were unceremoniously dropped. Another five minutes later, our server stopped by and took our drink order - 3 coffees. Another 5 minutes and she swung by again to let us know they were brewing fresh pot of coffee and it would be ready soon. I'm sorry, but any diner or breakfast spot worth its salt ALWAYS has coffee brewed in the morning and ready to serve. Period. Papermoon Prices are high for what you get, even in 2024. $4/cup of (terrible) coffee (menu says no free refills unless you order at least $15 worth of food - it should also say your server will probably ignore your multiple requests anyway). $16 for three eggs, homefries, and toast. $17 for French toast with no sides. A comical $19 to add seasoned crab meat to a $16 Eggs Benedict (why even bother having this if that's what you have to charge?). Coffees were served with our entrees - at this point we'd been there for over 35 minutes and were just being served something besides water (apparently no free refills on water either). Omelettes were fluffy and served with a modest portion of homefries and toast. Eggs Benedict was a soggy mess - too much sauce, the English muffin was soft. Tasty ham though. Came with another modest portion of cold homefries. Even getting and paying our $78 bill for three breakfasts - I'm chuckling as I type this - took another 15 minutes. If you don't live within walking distance, do yourself a favor and drive somewhere else for breakfast.

Yelp
As a NOLA native, it feels like this place was plucked out of a street in New Orleans and then dropped here in Baltimore. Just the "wacky" decor of this place alone is enough to keep you entertained for a few hours. The food was amazing as well. This is definitely a gem of Baltimore City. Everything we had was delicious and we had A LOT of different items on the menu. I definitely will be back to try out more items. We got unlucky with the waiter, as she was very... dead on the inside (and out) with zero personality. I got the vibe that she didn't really want to be there and it kinda put a damper on what was an otherwise amazing experience. But I'm willing to write that off as just a bad day kinda of situation. All of the other staff seemed very friendly and cut out for the job. This is one of the few places to definitely come if you're in the area. I can see why this has become a staple in the city. It definitely deserves the reputation.

Yelp
View the photos and words like kitschy and unique will come to mind, and rightfully so. I don't think I've ever seen such a large Pez dispenser collection. And how mannequin parts become artistic collage surfaces...needs to be seen/experienced. It's festive, whether you want to giggle or roll your eyes. Conveniently located walking distance from the Museum of Art and the southern side of the Johns Hopkins Univ. campus, I wasn't surprised to see a mix of locals, a few well-heeled students (This isn't a bargain dining establishment.), families maybe visiting or just out with the kids for an early dinner. Think casual. No pretenses, as the décor immediately suggests. Team service is the norm, so as they even advise on the menu, expect 3-4 floor staff to be hosting your visit. If beverage refills are available, plan on informing the server what you're drinking. The menu bears a preview, as they've a seemingly broad offering of breakfast items, as well as salads, sandwiches, omelets (I was spell-checked out of "omelettes"?) and dinner entrees. $4.00 for a glass of tea was a bit of a sting, but what better on a humid summer afternoon? (Asking for a "half-and-half" tea initially generated confusion.) The Chicken Avocado Sandwich combines avocado with melted gruyere cheese, all the goodies held together in a slightly-crunchy grilled roll. Save ingredients sliding out (This isn't five-star dining, if you've not read other reviews yet.), not unlike an over-stacked burger, it merits devouring. Napkins encouraged. The Chicken Pesto Salad was thankfully tasty, due in large part to the side portion of pesto (a new taste experience for this visitor). Early on, bites of the grilled chicken were dipped in the basil pesto, but as more chopped lettuce was revealed, the pesto went in as flavorful dollops. The salad mixture was salad-in-a-bag, but I forgave that for the ample sliced chicken breast. A filling salad, made unique by the pesto sauce. Overall, a dining destination as much for what you might see in the artistic collection, a broad menu, casual atmosphere, and pleasant service from a friendly service team, even if they over-compensate with multiple staff asking at what stage are you in your service experience. Def. a good place for families, even if your/the next table's kids are noisy.

Yelp
Stepping inside the foyer door for the first time simply made me smile. There is joy and fun everywhere. The staff were so kind and welcoming. We met a woman who came in with her daughter and sat next to us. I asked if she'd been there before, hoping to get an instant review. She said she's been coming twice a week for 24 years. The food was so good, I understand why.

Yelp
Decent diner food. The decorations are worth going, though. Such a unique atmosphere!

Yelp
It doesn't matter if you're a local or a tourist, this is a go to spot to check out. It's strange, nostalgic, and edgy decor will have your eyes busy. The staff is friendly and the service is fast. The food is delicious. I recommend the Monte breakfast sandwich but they have so much good stuff on their menu.

Yelp
I finally made it to Papermoon Diner for breakfast when we had some visitors in town last weekend! A lot of people had recommended it or asked if I'd been - and I don't know why I waited so long. It's quirky, kitschy, and fun. But the food is good!!! I had the "3 Eggs" (3 eggs however you like, home fries or spring mix salad, and toast), chose the salad and added breakfast sausage. It was classic but well cooked. I enjoyed it! I also like the drip coffee and had it refilled several times! Their menu is interesting, and two of our party tried their bacon and cheddar pancakes - which I tried and YUM. They have something for everyone for breakfast (tofu scramble for vegans, avocado toast for a basic breakfast, omelets, shrimp and grits, pigs in a blanket, egg sandwiches...)! The service was good, the food was good, and the place itself is a fun experience! It's worth checking out if you haven't been yet either!

Yelp
The uptown omelette was bigger than I expected and really good. They were able to sub the toast with the omelette for a pancake which was nice of them. The decor is so fun and intriguing. Kind of small inside but not super cramped. Service was quick and personable. Good prices. Ample parking. Worth a visit.

Yelp
Debit or Credit Card Only! Cash not accepted! I'm not sure if this is a Covid safety measure or not, but FYI! My friend and I stopped in for lunch one Friday afternoon and was seated immediately. There were only about 4 or 5 other patrons in the restaurant. Interesting space! I ordered and LOVED the Bird's Nest, priced at $14.95 - The Bird's Nest is a warm smoked turkey breast, havarti cheese, spring mix, avocado, caramelized onions & pea shoots w/ honey mustard, on a grilled ciabatta. I chose to get rye bread instead. Next time, because there will be a next time. Next time I'll get it without the pea shoots. The flavors were a little overwhelming. I also had a side house salad with house made Blue Cheese. The dressing was out of this world good! So good! My friend ordered the Jerk Chicken Wrap, priced at $15. The Jerk Chicken Wrap featured Grilled julienned jerk chicken, avocado, shredded cheddar & jack cheese, black bean & corn salsa, spring mix, and tomato. Wrapped in a warm tortilla. This was a hard pass for us. The jerk chicken taste more like Southwest flavored chicken, nothin jerk flavored about it. It wasn't bad but if you have your heart set on a Jerk chicken wrap, this isn't it. We did not get dessert because we didn't have time. The coffee is hot, fresh and flavorful. Service was kind of slow.

Yelp
Funky atmosphere and great, fresh food. It's an annual date for a Baltimore Museum trip. Service is always friendly and professional. Truly would not miss Papermoon.

Yelp
My fiancé loves this place. However, I didn't enjoy the food. I had a Philly cheese steak. The meat was abundant but it was not well seasoned, there was no sauce and barely any cheese. The beef patty melt was ok and the turkey version of the patty melt ended up being the most flavored food item our party had. For the price point, I think the Philly cheesesteak should have come with fries. Nevertheless, the fries are delicious. I guess it's cool if you like the artistic back drop but the food is not on par with similar places. I can't speak to the breakfast dishes but the lunch items are not worth the time nor, the money. We did, however, receive great service and was able to get seated immediately. The 3 starts is for the good service only.

Yelp
Just ok. I really wanted to come here because it's so interesting and for sure a lot to see with all the kitsch decor but the food is just OK and pretty pricey. They also have a weird server situation where everyone helps everyone, which is cool in theory but I must have had someone come up to me every 20 seconds asking if I was done or ready for the check. I felt rushed and a bit unwelcome. I think when you practice an everyone helps out service they don't know who has done what and it ends up making the customer feel confused, rushed, and unwelcome. Just some food for thought.

Yelp
There seemed to be more cons than pros this visit. My past visit that was all pro was before I became a Yelper. I don't believe this place takes reservations so we had a long wait, with nowhere to sit. We were finally seated and the 5 of us were sardines at a table. We had to asked to be moved and were initially told no, but finally were reseated. Service was slow, I barely got refills on anything. I ordered pigs in a blanket and home fries, plus coffee. Everything was good but the home fries. Not a horrible visit, but not the best.

Yelp
Seated quickly. Enjoyed the ambience. The waitress was pretty blasé. Food arrived on a timely manner but was awful!! Omelet with mozzarella cheese and tomato. Had no taste and was a big blob. Hash browns were absolutely disgusting! Don't know if it was cooked in old oil. Husband had a burger which came on very greasy rye bread. What happened to the bun? The burger was extremely Greasy. Neither one of us finished our meal. Waitress never came to see how our meal Was. Couldn't care less. Will not be back-ever. What a waste of almost $40.

Yelp
Went back for a second time, and the service and food was so much better! We got a reservation for 1pm. That made things easier! Service: Service was on point, while still very busy. We had multiple people taking care of us, taking orders, and checking in on us. We were sat at the first table by the bar which had no other people around us or tables, which worked out great because we didn't want to be too close to people. Kitchen staff hand delivered our shakes and our food, so that was cool and we got to thank them personally. Food: I got a milkshake this time and oh boy... I'm so glad I did! I got the Peanut Butter Milkshake and it was to die for!!! And this time I ordered actual breakfast/diner food, the Avocado toast with eggs and a classic order of mozzarella sticks. Both were fabulous and delicious. My boyfriend ordered the Pigs in a Blanket. We pretty much cleared our plates, no complaints here! Overall, I'd like to come back sometime. It's always very busy, but it's such a neat artsy diner and a fun place to take cute pictures!

Yelp
I had been going to the Paper Moon Diner for years, back to when my kids sat in high chairs. But this Sunday was our first time back in a while. From the time we were seated (they kept pushing their closing time) to serving my father in-law the wrong order-we were quite disappointed. The prices were much higher (I understand that prices are up on everything but, .....). The size of my shake was much smaller. My hamburger was made with the care of a blind neurosurgeon with patties and fries that definitely came from a store freezer. All in all, very disappointed that one of our favorite Baltimore spots has fallen into this state of indifference.
