The Parthenon - Review - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Parthenon is old school and one of the oldest tenured restaurants in Greektown. How old school are they? They claim to invented saganaki. It’s an OUTRAGEOUS claim, but it also might be true. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

Love this place! My husbands family has a day after thanksgiving tradition of going in as a family and eating a ton of appetizers until we are stuffed. Everything is always great and we get awesome service from Salvatore every year.

Been going for over 40 years! Took our kids when they were in car seats! Yana and her father Chris make you feel like you are entering their home! Food and service, especially by waiter Sal is the best. We knew him since he was a bus boy! Best Greek place in the city, hands down.

I went here on a groupon deal. The food was great, however the customer service was terrible. The waiter was not personable and seemed annoyed that we had a groupon. He did not attend to us much throughout the meal and we waited a long time for the check. The thing that upset me most was the fact that he told us what the total balance was and that we had to tip on the total balance. We left our tip on the table and as we were leaving, he stopped us to ask us where the tip was. It was extremely rude and awkward. I will never go back nor recommend this place to anyone.

it's shocking to me that this restaurant could have earned a "21" food rating. its fans must be into nostalgia! the food was oh so heavy and lacking in any fresh taste. good greek food should evoke the mediterranean, but this food would make you sink. the wait staff was somewhat inept, and the decor was tired. the only good thing -- they were very accomodating of our large group.

Been here before and enjoyed the food. However we had a Groupon this time, and were treated like second class citizens. There's a separate menu, with almost nothing on it and few choices. Don't want appetizer AND soup AND salad? Too bad! Waited 90min for entree and had to beg to get it. Others were in and out before we got our entree. I have never had a Groupon experience like this before! I don't know why they even bother accepting them here. Terrible! If I had not been here before, woulda given 1 star.

Recently dined for restaurant week. Food portions were significantly large and plenty of food to take home... for restaurant week diners you will definitely get your moneys worth. To start we were brought a plate of gyro meat and cucumbuer sauce as I like to call it... OUTSTANDING and perfectly cooked gyro.. slightly crispy is how I like it. The cucumber sauce was well whipped and thick which gave you the feeling that you were fine dinging. The next plate we obtained was the famous greek cheese and an ample OPA followed - cheese was perfect on the hot plate but slightly chewy for my liking. 2 soup options... the lemon rice soup and the beef stew... i recommend the beef stew due to the lustrous flavor of the tomato broth but for a lighter option the lemon soup will due. A greek salad followed which was nothing out of the ordinary however the olives were on point!. For my main entree I tried the braised lamb... BEST COOKED LAMB i've had in a long time... meat fell off the bone and was perfectly tender and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Deserts - Try the chocolate mouse cake and THE BAKLAVA -- the waiter was generous and offered us to do a split half and half so you could try 2 deserts for the price of 1... Restaurant was very clean, our waiter was very nice and generous who offered a fair share of honest opinions which is very important to me and he was not pushy at all. He made our dining experience very relaxing and even brought me a few cucumbers for my water! Will definitely come back and in my opinion top spot in GREEKTOWN!

One of the most famous places in the Greek town. Good food for affordable prices, but it is not really greek food. The Family menu is a good deal if you are two or more people. Very good the flambe cheese, with the waiter yelling "Ooopppaaa"

One of the better restaurants in Greektown. I came with a Groupon for a 5-course meal and every course was good but short of mindblowing. I recommend the flaming saganaki, especially if you love cheese. If you don't, order it for the experience of seeing your waiter set the cheese on fire and loudly yelling "Opa!" What a great way to start a meal. The restaurant has a homey atmosphere, and coupled with the large portions, it's a good idea to come with a large group of friends and family. Also, there is free valet parking. This service can be slow on busy nights, but it's free after all.
