"The Peddler is old school in the best sense of the term. The Raleigh location has been in operation since 1969 and still ages all its steaks for a minimum of 28 days. The chargrilled steaks are carved tableside, and all entrees (steak, seafood, and chicken) come with a choice of rice, baked potato, sweet potato, fries, or steamed vegetables as well as access to what qualifies as an endangered species in dining these days — a full salad bar." - Matt Lardie

I’ve been living in Raleigh for quite some time now and I only recently tried the Peddler. I am kicking myself for not coming here sooner. There aren’t many places like it left in the country. I haven’t had the chance to choose my own cut of steak in a very long time. There’s something magical about seeing the before and after for the piece you pick instead of just seeing the finished product. I feel like it gives such a personal touch. Old school service - classic salad bar with an entree, reasonably priced glasses/bottles of wine. They are mainly walk in, and the wait varied quite a bit. We were a group of 8 guys and got in after about an hour wait. We all walked out of there after sharing three appetizers, four bottles of wine, and everyone getting their own steak for about $70, which I think is a great price. The quality of the meat surpasses other steak houses in the area, especially for the price. They grill and season the meat perfectly and they cooked ours exactly to order. I highly recommend checking this place out with any party size and if you have a last minute get together for a larger group, they can probably accommodate you.

The service was great, and the atmosphere was dark and classy, like a traditional steakhouse. I was impressed with the salad bar. They had a lot of topping options. I rated the food 4 stars because the sides were slim pickings. Also, the sweet potato was very small. Now the steak. I ordered the Ribeye cooked medium, and it was good, but I've definitely had tastier. My finance ordered the prime rib, which was cooked perfectly (medium rare), however extremely salty for my taste. Overall it was a good experience but I prefer some tasty side options to pair with my steak. The keylime pie was very tasty, and the steaks are very reasonably priced for a steakhouse. If you've never been, I'd give this place a try. The wait times can be pretty long, so I would definitely get there before open, since they don't take reservations for party's less than 8.

I had salmon, asparagus, and salad bar. Salmon cooked on point for me, however, a bit salty. Asparagus could be trimmed a bit more as the stalks were woody and couldn't eat them. Salad bar is a clear winner. My date had ribeye, asked for medium, was more on medium rare side, but he ate it. Good flavor, tender. Service was steady. We waited in line at 4:10 pm with others for their 4:30 opening on a Saturday. Someone commented on being cold, yes, in the back dining room, it was chilly. And the place is dark, luckily, our table was directly under a canned light, so we enjoyed the meal in ambient lighting. Old school steakhouse. No frills.

My mother expressed that she wanted a juicy steak for her 77th birthday, so I read the reviews for the steak houses in the area and was impressed by those for The Peddler Steak House. I made reservations at The Peddler Steakhouse for 15 people (14 family members and me) to celebrate my mother‘s birthday. I received great customer service on the phone call. I was even more excited when I asked if I could bring in a cake and was told that I could. Everything was set for our special celebration. We were greeted with professionalism and pleasantries upon arrival at the restaurant. We really loved the ambience. The entire restaurant was fairly dim with somewhat of a nostalgic decor. We were escorted to an area in the back with other large groups. This was an ideal setting for us. It created an atmosphere that was comfortable and made us feel at home. We were seated quickly and our hostess, Haley, took our initial drink orders while we waited on everyone to arrive. Haley was very personable and took care of all of our needs with a smile. The children adored her as she made sure to acknowledge their presence there as well. The salad bar was a hit. There were a variety of options available, and everything was fresh and crisp as applicable. The grilled bread was also really good. One suggestion for Haley is that the next time she is serving a table with 15 people that she puts a separate basket of bread on both ends of the table so that people aren’t having to move the bread along from one end of the table to the next to ensure everyone can get one. We ordered a variety of dishes. We had ribeye, prime rib , and porterhouse steaks. We also had the salmon dish, tuna dish, and various appetizers and sides. Everyone that had the steak dishes truly enjoyed it. The crab dip and chips were also good; a couple people felt it could’ve used some more herbal seasoning but otherwise everyone enjoyed it. The salmon was seasoned perfectly, and cooked just right. Having brought in our own cake created an awesome experience for us to sing happy birthday to my mother and have an enjoyable and celebratory gathering. Being able to do this truly made our day and most importantly made my mom very happy. This was our very first time at this restaurant. Everyone had an enjoyable time during our visit. We will be back.

Some of the best value in a steak place as you’ll ever find. Little place with a quiet atmosphere and a small bar. When you come in, it’s like you have come over to a friend’s house for dinner. Crisp cold salads up at the salad bar. Moist steaks cut to the proper portions. Friendly staff and hot sides accompany the meal. The only complaint you’ll ever hear is that the lighting is a little dim. However, it sets the ambience a bit better to keep it calmer throughout the dining experience. It is my preferred special occasion steak place.

If you are ever in Raleigh and staying in the Crabtree area off Glenwood, forego the mall, Cheesecake Factory, PF Chang and other chains to enjoy the fantastic atmosphere that you will find at Peddlers!! I started at the bar to a perfectly made old fashioned. The bartender recommended I have the peddler cut at my table. My server Mary was quick to greet me and bring my dring. I told her what i wanted and they brought out a loin and cut my ribeye to my desired thickness. After ordering I helped myself to a well stocked salad bar. Shortly thereafter a perfectly seared medium, juicy steak arrived. I could go on and on.. Mary was a very good server and I didn't wait for anything. If I lived in the area, this place would definitely be on my list of favorites for date night.

One of my favorite restaurants in Raleigh! I've been coming here for years, and the quality of the steak is always top-notch. The service is consistently excellent, and the staff is always friendly and attentive. I particularly enjoy the classic, low-lit steakhouse atmosphere and the cozy little side bar where you can enjoy a beverage while waiting to be seated. Oh, and let's not forget the salad bar—love the salad bar! I highly recommend giving this place a try.

Old school steakhouse - I as a pescatarian got the salmon with asparagus side. It was delicious! Cooked perfectly to my liking. The salad bar was a nice touch as well. Nice cocktail menu - I got the Cucumber Collins as well as a house chardonnay. I would visit here again.

Yelp
Our go-to steakhouse in Raleigh. The steaks are excellent, the service impeccable and the salad bar is amazingly good! I'm a fan of their filets, having had virtually every other cut on the menu, they're one of the few upper-end steakhouses that does filet mignon right. Perfectly grilled and seasoned, every bite is perfect. The restaurant is of the old school dark steakhouse which gives it an intimate atmosphere, which I like. Not cheap, but as a special night out dinner it's wonderful. They don't take reservations, and arriving between 5 and 7 pm usually means a wait for seating. But it's worth the wait.

Yelp
I ordered the steak and shrimp combo, and it was a great balance of surf and turf. The steak was cooked perfectly medium rare and paired well with the grilled shrimp. The lemon garlic butter sauce added a bright and fresh touch. It is a great option if you want something a little different.

Yelp
Their dr aged steak has an incredible depth of flavor that you do not get from regular cuts. The aging process gives it a rich and slightly nutty taste. The roasted Brussels sprouts on the side were crispy and delicious. This is a steak I would definitely order again.

Yelp
Hands down the best steakhouse in the Raleigh area!!!! The service is always top notch and the food is to die for. The drinks are also delicious!

Yelp
If you want a great steak in an old-fashioned steakhouse vibe, this is the place. I felt like I stepped back in time with the paneled walls, the simply lit dining room & the fresh salad bar. Cocktails were standard old style steakhouse drinks. Steaks were done to perfection, flavorful and tender. The grilled bread served with the pimento cheese appetizer was the perfect accompaniment and was deliciously addictive. Service was quick attentive and no- nonsense. I honestly had a better experience & a better steak here than at the much hyped steakhouse in town.

Yelp
We first ate at the peddler steakhouse in Gatlinburg, Tennessee so we were excited when we found out there was one near my hometown. Quiet and nicely decorated restaurant. A bit dark for my taste, but it works. Waitress staff was friendly and accommodating. Quick to offer suggestions and opinions on the menu when prompted. Steaks were cooked to perfection. It's rare to get a steak and not need any sauce, but in this case no A1 sauce was needed. Baked sweet potato was excellent. You come in here you got a Spring for dessert. Let me be the first to recommend the bourbon bread pudding. For days it had me wanting another piece.

Yelp
The best prime rib and steak meals! The chefs are sheer perfection with top quality meat. Our first visit w friends that raved about you! Sarah, you were an awesome kind patient server! A+ for Sarah and Peddler's!!!!

Yelp
This was a nice experience dining at The Peddler. I came here for my birthday, and I will tell you, that it is not easy to get into. They wait can be a while, like 90+ minutes at times. They don't take reservations, or have a waitlist. But if you have a large party, around 10 or more people, then they are more willing to accommodate you in advance. The food was really good, and worth enjoying on multiple occasions. I really liked the server, and made good food recommendations. #515

Yelp
I was not impressed with the food or the service. Steak was tough and overcooked throughout. Drinks were not refilled promptly. The salad bar was intermittently and poorly restocked with a lot of items spilling over into others nearby. Cleanliness was not good. We won't be back.

Kristinne B.

Yelp
The service was good. Food was really well made and the servers were happy to tailor the dishes to our wants. The pimento cheese appetizer complimented the filet mignon entrè. We had crème brûlée for dessert, it was good and sweet. The atmosphere and vibe was very romantic.

Mark A.

Yelp
Hit or miss on the food and the service. The management is extremely poor and have given license to the staff to verbally abuse their customers with zero fear of consequences. I had the single worst restaurant dining experience of my life on seven continents there and it's been 100% endorsed by the management. The restaurant is not the same since the owner took a less active role and it's in decline. Unless you have a masochistic personality avoid The Peddler Steakhouse at all costs. There are plenty more hospitable and respectful places with competent and caring management and consistent food quality and service to be found.

Heidi H.

Yelp
The steaks and salad bar are excellent, the baked potato was cold, the waitress got upset that my fiancée asked for ice for his warm Pepsi, also the bread is a joke! One last thing if you go make sure you get there at 4:30 no later or you will wait over an hour! Also the place is freezing and I mean freezing cold, I had to wear a coat in order to eat my dinner, I do not think they have heat! My fiancé said it was 65 degrees in there! Too cold to be enjoyable! They were also short wait staff so everything took along time! Also you have to unwrap butter to put on your potato!

Yelp
Good environment great food, reasonable prices. Restaurant has been here awhile. Presenting the cuts at your table is an opportunity to learn a bit about your steak choice.

Yelp
The Peddler Steak House is located in the Oak Park Shopping Center off Glenwood Ave. It is tucked away to the left side of the shopping plaza so you might not know that it is there. It felt like the restaurant was there before the rest of the shopping center. The shopping center has plenty of parking. Reservations are taken for groups of 8 or more so if your group is smaller you might have to wait for a table. We were a group of 11 and none of us had been to the Peddler Steak House before. The restaurant is on the dark side so the dining experience would have been better with more lighting so you don't need your phone flashlight to read the menu. The tables are closer together than I would have liked too. When you walk in there is a small dining room with the kitchen to your right and the bar to your left. Then there are smaller rooms and that is where my group was seated. Service was good here but slow so give yourself plenty of time here. I went with the Filet Mignon and sweet potato. The salad bar is also included with the meal. I don't like salad bars so would have preferred a side salad. The Filet Mignon was outstanding and one of the best I've had. The sweet potato was also good and came with a cup of cinnamon. I'd eat here again as the filet was delicious.

Yelp
Food is good. I wouldn't call a place with a stand up salad bar fine dining. It was fine for a country style steakhouse. If you're bougie like me, I'd pass but if you like a good classic place, with an Angus Barn vibe but better food go here.

Doug B.

Yelp
The experience was fantastic Went their when my wife and I were dating Now 38 years of marriage to that same woman We celebrated our anniversary there It was just as good then as it was now Everything was perfect

Yelp
Restaurant opened at 430 on Saturday we arrived at 345 , at 430 there were 30 people in line . Restaurant appears dark your eyes will adjust . Decor is old but comfortable. All entries come with the salad bar , plates are ice cold salad is fresh and condiments are plenty . Menu is nice my steak 10 ounce ribeye was perfect . Baked Potato was good . Prices are great , service good . You can't go wrong here. Go early or be prepared to wait . Well worth a visit .

Yelp
I have been going to the Peddler for at least 30 plus years. The quality has never disappointed me. They are the only restaurant I know of with a GOOD, FRESH salad bar. I have never had a bad waitress here, they are all excellent - and happy. I live in Maryland now-- until I move back home to Durham. I always visit the Peddler when I visit the area. Oh, and the ice tea is superb!

Jennifer M.

Yelp
I've lived in Raleigh almost 40 years. I have no idea why I haven't tried The Peddler until now. They do not take reservations for small parties. So we arrived 30 min before opening and were the 3rd table in line. By the time they opened there were easily 15ish tables to be sat, which happened quickly. Salad bar is included in every meal, and it's nice. Lots of options. Steaks were well seasoned, juicy, and tender. Friendly staff and they keep the place moving at a good pace, but you don't feel rushed. Only downside is it's a little too dark inside, but that's a nit pick.

Penne S.

Yelp
This is and has been our go to place for celebrating special events since 1975! The people, the ambience and most importantly, the food are still awesome.

Kate C.

Yelp
The meat was fantastic- cooked well with lots of flavor. Sweet potato was underwhelming. Sugar and cinnamon just thrown in the middle. Needed something else. Bread was fine. Salad bar was good, lots of choices. Would have preferred spinach.

Warren C.

Yelp
I worked in restaurants over 45 years in every position from dishwasher to Chef/Owner. I never felt compelled to write a Yelp review until tonight. We had reservations at 5:00 to avoid the dinner rush. We were seated and received drinks. We all had the salad bar. We waited over one hour for 2 kabobs, a pork chop and a chopped steak. My wife and I are both professional chefs and I am an Alumnus of Culinary Institute of America. After waiting an hour for our entrees the chopped steak was basically an overdone hamburger. The advertised mushrooms were basically just barely sauteed . The single pork chop was so dry none of us could eat it. Plate presentation was nonexistent. I have never felt so disgusted and ripped off, yet guests were waiting for a table. Suffice it to say we will never return and there are many better choices including chains that do a better job.

Yelp
I heard about this Raleigh steakhouse awhile ago but we never visited. A friend suggested we go last week to check it out and after reading the reviews, we decided to try it out. It's a charming old school restaurant that is nestled in a shopping center off Glenwood Avenue. The exterior looks like the frame of a house which adds to the charm. I'm not sure though if they built the shopping center around the house or, it was modeled that way when it was opened. Inside it's dark and charming with the wood paneling on the walls. There is a really nice bar area separate from the dining room which is small but not cramped. The kitchen is off the dining room and it's open. Again, the ambiance adds to to feeling that you stepped back in time a bit to the 1970s when most of the restaurants were like this. The food here is really good. I like the old school salad bar. Again, it brings you back a bit. Self serve salad bars were standard fare in many restaurants decades ago. I know with Covid and peoples changing dining tastes, they have become a bit obsolete. But it's presented here nicely. The offerings were fresh and the other diners were not leaving big messes after they went. The steak peddler came around with the steak offerings for the night. My wife and I both got Rib Eyes. The peddler cuts the steak in front of you at the table. Nice touch. The other couple ordered a strip and a chicken dish. Unlike some other steak houses you get a side of your own and not ones for the table. I got a baked potato and my wife went with the asparagus. The steaks were cooked perfectly. They were seasoned with simple salt and pepper. We enjoyed them very much. We did get the sampler appetizer which consisted of fried mushrooms, mozzarella sticks and onion rings. Again, simple. We had a great meal and great time at this place. It's not fancy but the service and food were top notch. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
There was a short wait for table and we were told we could wait in the bar if we wanted a beverage. The bar occupies a small corner of the restaurant with nostalgic but annoying salon doors that make it difficult to carry your unfinished drink to the dining room. We ordered two Manhattans and instantly knew it was not going to be an upscale experience. ATTENTION BARTENDERS: maraschino cherries have NO place in a cocktail, they are barely acceptable on top of an ice cream sundae. Everyone do yourselves a favor, if you want an inexpensive elevated tasting experience for your clients that drink cocktails with a cherry in it, get some frozen black cherries (Costco has an excellent option) and soak them in some amaretto liquor. The place is dark and gives the impression of being intimate. All entrees come with a side, bread, and salad bar. The salad bar is well stocked with fresh veggies. We each ordered steak which was cooked to the right temperature. Our meals tasted good but not at the level of a high end steak restaurant. Staff were courteous and efficient.

Deidra W.

Yelp
Great little steakhouse in Raleigh! Recently came here for a date night with my husband after searching Yelp for a new restaurant to try. This place is small and dimly lit place that adds to the atmosphere. Be prepared to wait as they do not take reservations and the wait was over an hour. Service was great. Our server was attentive, funny and offered recommendations when asked. We started with shrimp cocktail that was pretty good, and the mozzarella cheese sticks. The cocktail sauce has a bit of a bite to it so be prepared for that. We ordered two ribeyes with baked potatoes and the salad bar. The salad bar was surprisingly good with numerous options. The ribeyes were cooked appropriately to medium and the quality of meat seemed good. The only complaint we had is that both steaks were lukewarm at best. Not sure if they just weren't brought out promptly or what. Had they been hot, we feel it would have made the meal perfect. Altogether, not a bad spot and we will likely try it again in hopes of trying the ribeye hot!

Linda K.

Yelp
We entered the restaurant to dark and gloom and a not pleasant odor. The food was about on par with a cheaper restaurant with the cuts of meat looking really skimpy. The seafood ordered was really good. The salad bar was just average and it was so dark that we didn't know what we were choosing. I would not recommend this restaurant.

Womp D.

Yelp
Went as a party of 1. Great service, well marbled ribeye for 36, 2 belvedere for 23. These, a sprite, some nice steamed veg, AND a vintage salad bar for not much cash? Sold and coming back for more.

Mariam C.

Yelp
Absolutely the best ribeye I've had at any restaurant in way too long! (Including another premium steak barn down the road) We were offered a personal steak selection by the steak peddler. A beef cart was wheeled to our table and my steak was cut table side according to my specification from a full ribeye loin. It was grilled over charcoal to exactly my request. Service was very good as well. Salad bar, bread, and side included with entree. Prices were well in line with food and service.

Bruce G.

Yelp
I came to the Peddler Steak House on a Friday evening to join a large group and the place was pretty much packed, so they are doing good business. The vibe is definitely "old school" as other reviews have mentioned. Dim lighting, no windows, tables close together. It's the kind of joint your grandparents went to 50 years ago and still go to today. The menu is simple, and I knew they were known for their prime rib cooked medium-rare with a sweet potato. The meat was cooked to perfection, well seasoned, and flat-out delicious! I ate every bite. I ordered some horseradish sauce on the side but I really didn't need it since the meat was so flavorful. The sweet potato was good too and came with cinnamon sugar and butter. I didn't order dessert, but the desserts I saw looked really good. This was a splurge meal for me since it is a bit more pricey than what I normally like to pay, but the service was very good, the food was great and you do get meat, a side, bread, and a salad bar so overall I think the price equaled what the experience was. The Peddler has apparently been around forever and there is a reason for that. Old School steak house that keeps it simple. This place deserves some love Raleigh!

Benjamin D.

Yelp
The steak was very good, as was the service. The place has been around for a long time, and to me it seemed dated which took away from the whole experience. Hence the 4 stars

Anna P.

Yelp
This was my first time eating at The Peddler. A coworker suggested it for a team dinner. I only eat steaks once in a while so I was pretty excited about it. The cool thing about this restaurant is if you order a new york strip or ribeye, "the peddler" bring out a huge piece of meat and cuts it at the table for you and shows it to you. If you don't like it, you can ask for a different piece. They have a salad bar with lots of toppings and house made dressings. The ribeye was delicious, perfectly seasoned and cooked to the correct temperature/doneness of medium. The baked potato was plain but they had butter and sour cream at the table. You could also get more toppings from the salad bar to make it a loaded baked potato. The restaurant is located in a shopping center so parking is easy. I would come here again and try the filet mignon next time!

Alex H.

Yelp
The best steak and chicken I've ever had so far! It was a very warm and dark environment perfect for a date night loved it so so much! Service was amazing as well!

Nicole B.

Yelp
This was an old school steak restaurant with an excellent salad bar and delicious steaks. The staff was really friendly and the drinks were great. The place was cozy and I enjoyed my time there. We did have to wait for 1.5 hours but we sat at the bar and it was fun!

Samantha P.

Yelp
Favorite steak house in Raleigh. Have been coming here since I was a little kid! Unassuming hole in the wall but very amazing.

Chris L.

Yelp
The steak was just ok (not bad) not sure if it's worth the wait. The service was slow and I felt we were always waiting for the server to come around. I'm sure we will give it a try again and hopefully the service is better and wait isn't so long so a basic steakhouse.

Chris R.

Yelp
This is a very quaint restaurant located in Raleigh. I've actually never been to this establishment previously, but my wife wanted to try it out. The outside seemed a little sketch, once we walked in it was even more sketch. It's very small on the inside, with one of the strangest kitchens I've ever seen before. The wait staff was great with excellent service. They also have a salad bar that was very odd but fresh and delicious. I ordered the ribeye and chicken with broccoli and sweet potato. The chicken was marinated and very tasty! Not much seasoning on any of the sides. The steak was interesting. For this to be a steakhouse, I was expecting more. I believe I received a bad cut of steak or it was possible spoiled. It beef had grey all throughout which concerned me once cutting it..there was A LOT of fat on this steak, I always get ribeye as my choice of cut, but never had one like this before. The steak was bland with no seasoning - I would not recommend the steak here. My wife ordered the salmon which she liked, but during the meal, she started feeling sick which carried throughout the night.

KJ Y.

Yelp
wanted to like it, husband's coworkers recommended - was hour and 45 minute wait for a table since they don't take reservations for parties less than 8. Then when seated, we were not offered water, ice tea came right away but soft drinks for 3 others in party took over 20 minutes? all the other tables had water and drinks? Salad bar is okay, not impressive. Appetizers came quickly, crab dip was good, french onion soup seemed off. Then it was over another hour for entrees to be served and everything seemed over over salted, prime rib, tuna and asparagus. My entee wasn't quite was ordered and server didn't say anything until another member of party questioned why. Wish had ordered something else as after waiting an hour for entrees didn't want to send mine back to be adjusted or change as didn't want to wait another hour. Husband got frustrated after asked for ice tea refill and we didnt see server for another 20 minutes and that was final straw and he expressed disappointment to server- she did take the one entree off but it was the overall experience that was disappointing. If the kitchen is backed up at least let your customer know and check in on them after a half hour, if the restaurant is short staffed than management should help out, just don't leave tables hanging for extended periods of time. The table behind us was vocal they hadn't seen server in over 30 minutes and then I went outside for fresh air as was so warm and stuffy in back room, a couple came out that had also been in back dining room expressing their disappointment. With so many places that take reservations if gonna have to wait over an hour for table, service and food better be worth it. Unfortunately the Peddler wasn't worth the wait or lack of service - appears another restaurant with overpriced mediocre food.

Yelp
Omg, the Porterhouse steak was amazing 10oz. Loved the atmosphere, loved the decor, and our waitress Molly was amazing! I can't wait to come back!

Crystal A.

Yelp
My favorite place to eat in Raleigh! Delicious food and cozy atmosphere. I love the salmon, steaks and salad bar! Yummy!!

Yelp
It was so so. My sweet potato was under cooked. Ordered a pork chop and wasn't asked how I wanted it cooked which was odd. I prefer my pork cooked medium. HOWEVER when it came to the table it wasn't even cooked medium rare. Had to send it back and it did come back perfect that time. Great seasoning and waitress was very nice and apologetic. We also had to slide our table over as we were right next to the salad bar. I got hit twice while sitting in my chair. And those a$$hole customers never even acknowledged they even bummed me. I guess today's society. ‍ Anyways the 3 day others in our party seemed to enjoy their meal. I did notice that one person's porterhouse steak was rather fatty. They have gotten rid of the old nasty carpet with new carpet. Thought it was hardwood at first but it's carpet.

Yelp
Came back to the Peddler for the first time in a years and it's got to make your list of places to eat in Raleigh. Great food, salad bar and atmosphere. Kind wait staff as well!

Yelp
Excellent food and service . First time eating there but we will go back . It was date night and the setting very nice for a date night . Like the Decor.

Yelp
Food was great, service good, but people are bringing children and infants who are screaming and having tantrums into this fine dining restaurant! At over $50 a plate I don't expect to deal with this. Owner should have rules about ages allowed in here. Waitress said nothing she could do! Ruined my dinner! My husband and I couldn't even hear each other. Go to Rey's where they assure people will be respectful!

Yelp
Te entry visited on a Wednesday evening for an early dinner (5:30). No problem getting a table for six people right away. Waitress came and took our drink orders and gave us time with the menus. Other reviews that reference the dark ambience are correct. Took a while for my eyes to adjust. Truly an old-school steakhouse as others have said, with a decent salad bar but yes, iceberg lettuce, Unfortunately the "bread" is two slices of grilled bread that come with your steak, and although we asked to have them with our salads, they weren't able to accommodate. Our party had prime rib, ribeyes, and strip steaks. All were done as requested. Took a while to get our second round of cocktails almost at the end of the meal. We chose the carrot cake for dessert, which was much to dense to be considered a cake. Overall, not bad, but not someplace I would put on my "must return to" list.

Yelp
This is the best old school steakhouse in the area. Great service, perfect steak and fish and a serious salad bar.

Yelp
After hearing very good reviews we decided to try The Peddler Steak House. For a Saturday night it only had a short 20 min wait and during that time we had a drink in the bar. The ambiance is really nice with low light. I ordered the prime rib and it came with a salad bar. While eating my salad I found a shred of white paper was in my salad/lettuce. Hence low light it was hard to discover what it was as I bit into it and clearly wasn't food. I didn't make a big deal as to not wanting to put a damper on our night. After waiting close to 40 min for our food to arrive with little contact with our server I was notified (after 40 min) that they were out of prime rib. I understand this can happen however we waited a very long time to be notified and clearly my order was holding up the entire table. I think everyone felt we waited a very long time to find out they didn't even have what I ordered.I moved to a Ribeye Medium Rare that was cooked medium however at this point no need mention it and start over again. We did notice everyone that came and sat after us were served and out a long time before we were. For reference we were only a party of three. Very disappointing. Slow service, bad communication, steak not cooked per ordered. Didn't even eat 5 bites of it.

Yelp
Easiest review to write: Host was friendly and got us seated within 15-20 minutes after we arrived. ( We sat in the bar while we waited). Waitress was knowledgeable about menu items and gave us time to look over the menu. Salad bar... a big part of what made this experience 5 star. It had everything you could want on a salad. Items we ordered from menu were prime rib and it was outstanding. We couldn't have asked for it to be prepared and taste any better. Good and service over all were excellent. We ended up having a drink at the bar before we left and the bartender was quick to ask us what we wanted and was attentive to us and other patrons at the bar.

Yelp
We found this place on accident, we were in town for work and our original place had an hour and half wait! Yikes! The peddler is located in what seems to be in a higher end area. The entrance is an old, classy entrance and the vibe inside is very old school steakhouse. I loved it! I ordered a filet and my coworker ordered the surf and turf, both steaks were cooked to perfection. Our waitress was attentive and always available, she told us there was a large party and we may want to wait to grab our salad from the salad bar. You can make as many trips as you'd like, the food didn't take too long, in my opinion. The place is clean, classic and well managed. I would certainly return if I am in the area.
