"Located at the National Park’s entrance, this family tradition has been around since the 1970s with a mission of great food, service and atmosphere along the Little Pigeon River. Classic steakhouse fare, this is one of those places that the entire family can enjoy a night out that won’t break the bank. Chilled shrimp cocktails, petite filet mignon combos, and the signature chicken almond soup top the list for classic favorites. Make sure to at least share the peanut butter mud pie for dessert. *Call ahead seating recommended" - Melissa Corbin

We did not make reservations and were seated immediately in the upstairs, first-come-first-served lounge area at a corner table with a beautiful view overlooking the river. The menu options are the same as the downstairs eating area, and service is the same quality minus a “steak peddler”. As I knew what steak I wanted, that was not an issue. Waiter was helpful and polite. Their tap was not working at the time but the beer came frosty and with a cold glass. Filet was EXCELLENT…Meat candy that melted in my mouth. Cheese bites were tasty, as well!

This place was honestly great. We had reservations for 630 at a riverside table. We got there about 30 minutes early and went up to the bar for a drink. There were two seats at the bar and a lot of tables available upstairs which is a first come, first serve section. We decided to wait for our reservation table and I’m glad we did. Everyone gets the salad bar which is massive, clean and has a ton of options. My husband is a pretty picky eater and said the prime was the best he’s ever had. I got steak with shrimp but the shrimp was so good I’d probably just get a large meal of that the next time instead of a few pieces on my steak. They light a candle at your table and it was just really cute. Would definitely recommend!

This is a nice looking restaurant in Gatlinburg. There are seating options to view the creek right behind the restaurant where you can hopefully catch a glimpse of a bear. I was just a little uncomfortable with the birds and squirrels mounted above me but I managed to ignore that. The salad bar was nice. The food was ok. I like my steaks well done and now know it’s difficult. Not all places have mastered how to still make it tender and juicy. Mine was a little dry but tasty and the A1 sauce fixed it up. We also ordered the prime rib and looked well undercooked and not tasty. The waitress was very nice and understanding. She handled our concerns very professionally and with care. She made the night even better.

Google
First time at the Peddler, we were extremely impressed with the atmosphere as soon as you walk through the door you can tell it is a very well ran establishment. I would recommend getting reservations like we did. I've known of people driving three hours one way just to eat here and then head back home. Now to the important part, the food. If you order the New York Strip like I did they will cut your steak in front of you at your table. You also get a salad bar with your entree and the selection was wonderful. Steak was cooked perfectly and seasoned very well. Even the steak fries, which normally I am not a huge fan, were some of, if not the best I have ever had. Very tasteful seasoning on those as well. Service was prompt and fast, if my drink was empty it wasnt empty very long. All of this to say, if we are in Gatlinburg again, the peddler will be top of the list to visit again. Highly recommend 👌

Google
Loved it here. Very nostalgic. Make sure to ask for a table on the river! I got the filet medallions with mushroom sauce and they were so tender and flavorful. The stuffed potato was good. I do wish they had mashed potatoes! Salad bar was the best!!

Google
My husband and I had dinner here this evening. It was pretty great. I was watching guests enjoy their meals while and the wonderful service they consistently were presenting to all. They do not skip a beat here! I would definitely come here again! Tymberlan was our waitress and she was great!

Google
Our group of five had to split up. We could only get a reservation after 9pm. So myself and a cousin sat at the bar. I loved Matt our bartender, and Anthony. My caramel apple martini tasted like melted ice cream. It was so good. We ordered the ribeye steak with a loaded, baked potato. My cousin got a ribeye steak with cheese steak fries. The salad bar was amazing.

Google
One word……. perfection ! We made a reservation for river table and it was a great table overlooking the river. The staff were all fantastic the service was excellent. The salad bar was amazing, the steak was cooked perfectly. Absolutely brilliant way to end our stay here.

Yelp
Talk about decades of serving up a unique chophouse experience in the middle of the Good Ole Smokies, and ya just can't beat the fully loaded salad bar served with every meal! I've been dining here during my visits since I was just a child. Whether it's good or not, not one thing has changed about it over 30+ years--I'd say a good thing. The vibes are a bit dark as the building is surrounded by large trees and shade, so even darker in the evenings. I do believe slightly better lighting during the evening would benefit the dining experience, we had to squint and use our phones to read the menu. With no surprise at all, the steaks we order were superb, however, we did not get to experience the peddler, as our steaks were not on the cutlery list but precut options. We ordered the filet mignon, and even the precut was a cut of buttery perfection. The service is always superb, but we could tell that our server this time around was a bit overstretched. But overall, a great experience. We look forward to next time for our Spring visit!

Yelp
We made reservations here for a large group of about 12 for an Anniversary dinner. Even with the reservations we still had quite a long wait, with no seating. The interior reminded me of an old lodge, which was fine and a bit nostalgic, but it felt like it needed some updating for a nicer restaurant. It was packed and difficult to navigate around the crowded tables. The salad bar was large, and the meal portions were pretty generous, but nothing about the meal stood out. The steak lovers in the group were unimpressed, and I think that was the overall impression. I would say this might be a sentimental spot for some, but it didn't live up to expectations for us, especially for the hype and price. The really long wait, despite reservations, inconvenient parking, and nothing special just hasn't drawn us back. (Keep in mind we went during the slow season).

Yelp
I have no idea why this place is rated so high. The service was great. Everyone was on top of everything. The salad bar was great. But I don't know if it's $19 great. There is alot of options on it. The ribeye cut table. I like you get to pick the size of your cut. But the steak is very tough! Their steak knives are barely sharp enough to cut through the tough steaks!!! They do NOT season the steaks in anyways. Wild rice is very bland. There is really no taste other then rice. Portable chicken. Was awful. Take a chicken breast cook it until dried out. Take a can of low sodium cream of mushroom soup heat it up in the microwave. Pour it over the chicken. Take 1 mushroom and slice it into 3 tiny piece. Bedrock margarita was really good. They have the best mountain dew on the planet. When we voiced our concerns to our waitress she just said ok and walked off.

Sara N.

Yelp
Had the best meal and service ever! Drinks were never empty, very attentive staff, clean, fresh and full salad bar! Sat on the river in the bar area which was very quiet. Had a wonderful valentines meal! Will definitely be back. Highly recommend getting your entree blacked!

Ross R.

Yelp
This was a nice find in downtown Gatlinburg. We had a party of four and the service was great. They bring the steaks by your table before cooking them. I had the ribeye and it was cooked perfectly and the meat was quality.

Robbie G.

Yelp
So been coming here for years.. the salad bar and service is the only reason I'd come back. So quick tip if you want to eat here either put in a reservation online early or get there at 5pm and sit upstairs near bar area. Great views and great service and salad bar is so good. The ribeye I got was a bad cut which hey I get it but tasted like it was cooked in an oven. No fire marks and no skillet marks and quality was middle of the road. My wife's shrimp was a little undercooked but seasoned well. Like I said been coming here for years and 5 years ago this would have been a 5 star review sadly last 2 years I've been here not worth the money

Manson L.

Yelp
Clean and great service. Our waitress Jenny was a wonderful delight and super friendly and very fast. I had the grilled trout and loved it. My group of six had various steaks and they all loved it. Once your back from the salad bar the Meat Peddler comes by and cuts your steaks to order. So much food, we all left with a to go box. Once again I forgot to take pictures, so sorry. I need to work on that.

Denny B.

Yelp
I've been coming to Gatlinburg for over 40 years and this was my first time enjoying a meal at The Peddler. From the time we sat down, the service was amazing. Could not take a zip of my drink without someone coming by to top it off. They came to the table to hand cut our choice of steak and it was amazing. And the salad bar, oh my. Loved everything about The Peddler. For those who may not know, I did not, Peddler is the person who comes by your table to cut your steak.

Craig G.

Yelp
It was a nostalgic revisit since the first time I'd eaten here was in 1986 on my honeymoon. I'm happy to say the steaks are still excellent and my NY strip was cooked to order and had a great flavor. It was also a delight to find a restaurant that still offers a salad bar. That bar had a nice wide variety of offerings and everything tasted fresh. My wife also said their Chicken Almond soup was delicious. Service was attentive and friendly and were always hard at work keeping this busy business running smoothly.

Christy K.

Yelp
Reservations a must! Service was excellent! Food was not worth $250 for 4 people, steaks were dry and without flavor. Salad bar was good. Shrimp was ok, but could get same or better somewhere else. Older inside but clean appearance. Would not eat there again, not worth the money.

Jackie W.

Yelp
Myself with my Family of nine made reservations for 5:30. This was a special occasion because our daughter is getting married and The Peddlers Steak House Definitely Made It A Memorable one! We were sat promptly where our drink orders were immediately taken and the trip to the salad bar followed. The Salad bar had everything you could desire. Everything we ordered was cooked to Perfection and our service was Nothing short from Excellent thanks to our adorable waitress Autumn. I observed all the employees working smoothly together making the magic happen. We ended our meal with a tiramisu, chocolate cake and strawberry cheesecake. OUTSTANDING Experience and will definitely return.

Mckenzie J.

Yelp
This is a great place for a nice romantic dinner. They have a salad bar included with an entree. They also give complimentary bread. I had the 12 oz ribeye with a baked potato, and my boyfriend had the prime rib with a baked potato, and we really enjoyed it. I also had a cocktail which I also liked. Service was good and there were no issues. Definitely would recommend for a nice dinner.

Yelp
A visit to the Peddler, the most famous steakhouse in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, on October 24, 2023. The Peddler is famous for three things: (1) the salad bar; (2) a server that walks around peddling steaks on a cart - very old school; and (3) a dining room with views of a branch off the Little Pigeon River where bears sometimes make appearances. Alas, I did not see a bear, but, I did eat at at the salad bar and get peddled a steak (no pictures). I started off my visit with a margarita at the bar - great bartenders and yummy drink. I'd eat there next time now that I've had the full dining room experience. Salad bar lived up to the hype. I missed salad bars. Especially tiny squares of ham and French dressing. Everything in moderation. For an appetizer I had fried green beans (I know they were from the Sysco truck as I've had them before at other places and they are delicious) with housemade ranch. My dinner comprised a filet mignon and a baked stuffed potato. I was peddled bigger steaks, but declined. I ordered my steak medium rare and it was a tad overcooked (no surprise in "well done" country). It was OK. Potato was over the top cheesy but very good. I was so full I did not have dessert! Great service and gorgeous view. It was a fun experience and it's truly a Tennessee original. I think everyone who visits the area should dine here at least once. Four stars for Sysco green beans and an OK steak. If I went back I'd try other menu items.

Yelp
This is the most unprofessional establishment I have ever been to. We made reservations well in advance for our family on our family vacation. They refused to seat us together. They were going to put our family 3 tables apart. I have never heard of something so absurd. This restaurant lost $1000 on our dinner tonight. Absolutely would never recommend. I would actually go out of my way to tell people that I don't recommend. Completely disgusted.

Britney A.

Yelp
This was the best food that I have ever eaten. Service was absolutely amazing. We didn't have a reservation so it's first come first serve in a little area that I found super adorable overlooking the creek. I would highly recommend this restaurant!

Chris L.

Yelp
My partner's mom recommended this place and it did not disappoint. You definitely have to make a reservation or you will likely wait a while. The servers were nice. Best water service ever. The food was filling and we had enough to take home for leftovers. It is more on the expensive end but it is a causal environment and you can definitely wear flip flops or shorts.

Meghan M.

Yelp
If I could give less than one star I would. We had a reservation with a large group made well in advance and they refused to seat the family together, they were going to sit half the family across the restaurant. The tables were empty and they could have easily sat our family together. They were incredibly rude and I would NEVER eat here.

Mark M.

Yelp
Steak snob here. My wife loved her filet but my ribeye was tuff. Not sure what the grade is they buy from their vendor, but I'd say on the lower end. Salad bar pretty basic. Other than that, service was great. Atmosphere was like being in an old lodge from back in the day. Pretty cool. Make reservations 3 weeks ahead to get a river view table. Side note: Gatlinburg was crazy busy this weekend.

Kalyn E.

Yelp
This place was truly amazing and, more importantly, delicious! For ease of reading, I'm going to break my review down into categories. Reservations: If you plan on visiting, I highly recommend making a reservation online at least a day or two in advance. Wait times can be up to two hours long for walk ins on busy nights. With a reservation, you guarantee a table and minimal wait. Reservations are easy to make online. Service: The service here is impeccable, especially considering they are constantly busy. All the waitstaff is incredibly kind and willing to assist. They even lit a candle on our table for our anniversary. One of my favorite service aspects was that they cut our ribeye steaks table side. Never saw that done before and I loved it. Food: The food is simply delicious. Probably one of the best and freshest steaks I've had. The quality of the meat is obvious and they let the meat flavor shine without being overpowered by any spices. Every meal comes with the salad bar, and that salad bar is truly impressive. It's probably one of the largest and most diverse salad bars I've ever seen. It included everything you could possibly want including anchovies, whole green onions, oysters, bacon, etc. Prices: All in all, for a tourist town steakhouse, I felt their prices were incredibly reasonable. The smallest steak is 10oz. I ordered the 10oz ribeye with a baked potato and it came with the salad bar my entire meal was only $32, which I felt was very reasonable! They charge an additional $3 per ounce for any steak larger than 10oz... which again I think is very reasonable! All in all... 10/10 recommend making The Peddler a must dine on your next trip to Gatlinburg!

Karen A.

Yelp
This is the more delicious place and they go beyond to make sure you're satisfied! The food is out of this world.

Lexie C.

Yelp
My husband and I's favorite place to go for date night in the mountains. It's always busy so be sure to make a reservation in advance and be prepared to wait a few min when you get there. The hosts have a constant flow of people coming in. Just be nice don't be that person huffing and puffing over waiting 5 minutes when u had a reservation. Choose KINDNESS. The salad bar is THE BEST!! I'm usually not a salad bar/buffet type gal, but they keep up with the toppings and it's all fresh and clean! No pieces of food laying all over the place. We loved the peddler coming by and watching him cut our steak table side. It made the experience more intimate. We had the privilege of a window table on the river and got to see a bear right outside next to us!!

Michael B.

Yelp
This is a place that is very popular in Gburg. My suggestion would be to make a reservation or be there early to rush into the bar area to enjoy your dinner. The food was good but the desserts are a must stop... The Kristis hot fudge cake is one of the best desserts it is shareable. Plan and enjoy worse case just go for desserts.

Ron H.

Yelp
Peddler Restaurant Witnessed second set of Bear on Roaring Fork this PM on way to Peddler. Folks in Southwestern Ohio love Tennessee, Gatlinburg, and The Great Smoky Mountains. For many, many decades the Peddler has acquired the "Stuff of Legend." All of my friends dine here, and look forward to annual visits. Is the Peddler the Best Steak House in The Great Smoky Mountains? I am Not going to make that claim.... The Peddler is excellent, the Little Pigeon River Ambience is excellent, the service is a model of what service should be, the salad bar is terrific. Peddler is a top Three Selection for our Great Smokey Mountain adventure. Caveat: parking may or may not be available; always, always have Reservations. We made reservations last month while on holiday in Hilton Head. Peddler is a Steak House; menu does not include much that is not steak,.... Tanya, our server is a pro! She points out that the Peddler will soon bring his cart of steaks for slicing and for our order. Hmmm,... it has been a while since Prime Rib, and Prime Rib it is. Yes to Blackberry Cobbler for dessert. Most folks have selected dining on Little Pigeon River. Ambience is stellar with a lighted candle on each table. Romance, .... Peddler Steak House dining is excellent. We like that doors open at 4:00 PM for 5:00 PM seating. We like how pleasant everyone is. You bet that we shall return.

Lindsay W.

Yelp
It was great and we will be back. Prime rib was on point cooked perfectly, service was good and place seems clean. Salad bar well loaded. Reservations definitely needed though. It's a little pricey but for a special occasion/vaca it's fine.

Rebecca V.

Yelp
Best meal in Gatlinburg. Great service by Jeremiah. Incredible salad bar. Yummy steaks. I had the filet medallions. Hubby had filet. Cocktails were also great. Will definitely be a must do when we return!

Makaelah S.

Yelp
From the moment we stepped in the Peddler we were so happy! We had a reservation for 6:15 and didn't get sat until about 6:40, but it was incredibly busy so it was no problem. Once we were sat the food came quickly and you can start at the salad bar as soon as the waitress takes your drink order. The steaks were cooked just as we asked and we loved the view of the water as we ate! The ambiance is great for a date night to end our evening in Gatlinburg. An overall great experience!

Brian L.

Yelp
The Salad bar was A+ Wife ordered fried Trout was spicy Complained to server he said that it was not spicy Really..... Gave it a F was replaced with more Trout bland but better than spicy. Had a 16 oz rib Eye was unbelievably tough Give it a solid C- The Manager came over and we discussed the unbelievable comment the server about the fish And the tough stake 16 oz rib Eye.... Will not be back... The server was rewarded with one shiny Penny For his service... Bill was $156.00 Poor management....

Rich J.

Yelp
I have to start out by giving a shout out to my coworker Ben who recommended this restaurant. We came here on our 21st anniversary and I was absolutely totally blown away. It has a salad bar like I haven't seen in years. Drinks were excellent the food absolutely outstanding, our waitresses McKenna and Raven did an absolutely outstanding job. I had to custom cut 12 ounce ribeye. It was cooked to perfection. And all my years of going anywhere I've never had a steak cooked that perfect . My wife had prime rib and marinated chicken combo. The chicken was a little overpowered by the pineapple, but it was good restaurant clean well lit spacious. I would highly highly recommend this place to anybody who comes to Gatlinburg or is just passing thru.

Kayla B.

Yelp
Hands down our favorite meal of our vacation. Everything was amazing and the salad bar is definitely a plus. Our server was great and brought us out a dessert because we were celebrating a birthday. We will definitely be going to The Peddler again next time we visit.

Lisa C.

Yelp
Wow! Service was excellent and food was perfect! But the atmosphere... so relaxing, quiet, and exciting at the window! We had a bear and a raccoon pass by during our meal! Book early and ask for a window seat!

Misty W.

Yelp
The steak was amazing! The salad bar offered a variety of options, each that we had delicious. The resturant is very loud making it hard to have conversations with those you're with. The flower lady! The scent that she brought was very off putting with dinner and she kept making rounds. This is a place you go just for the food.

Hungry P.

Yelp
We made an early reservation thinking we could get in easy and be back out on the strip relatively soon. Made the reservation online 3 weeks before we got to town for a 4:30 seating. When we got there the place was mobbed. We didn't get our table until almost 5:00. The salad bar was great. It reminded me of the one at Steak &Ale. If you know, you know. The service was impeccable. This place had the best steak I have ever had. We both had the stuffed baked potato and it was so good. It was our 42nd anniversary and they made it very special. Can't wait to go back!

Eric C.

Yelp
Just finished dinner at The Peddler and I have to say every single aspect of it was perfect. We sat at a table overlooking the river which was a nice plus! The staff were amazing as well. Food was cooked exactly how we ordered and the drinks were always full. If you plan on eating here I strongly suggest making a reservation 2-3 days in advance, maybe more if you'd like a riverside table. Great job to all at The Peddler my Family and I will not only be back but will suggest your establishment to anyone looking for a top notch dining experience.

Ronda D.

Yelp
Work group of friends had this reservation for 4 weeks before we got there! We were all super excited to eat here :) it did NOT disappoint. The service was amazing the steaks were cut in front of us table side to the thickness and cut we wanted. The salad bar has EVERYTHING you could ever want on a salad bar. I had a blueberry margarita that was so perfectly blended with no mix . If you are visiting Gatlinburg I would highly suggest making a reservation and enjoying this amazing meal.

Amy F.

Yelp
Due to not having a reservation and a long wait, we sat at the first come first serve bar area table. It has amazing views of the outdoors and a running stream. Fantastic area! The food was delicious and very reasonably priced for a tourist area. The build your own salad bar, which came with the meal, had a large selection of items. My husband had the 12 ounce ribeye which was very tender and flavorful. Due to eating small portions, they let me order from the kids menu which was perfect.

James K.

Yelp
Great food great service ask for river view for best experience food cooked to perfection and tasted great salad bar had lots of choices

Danielle P.

Yelp
Folks come to Gatlinburg and the Great Smoky Mountains for family fun, beautiful country, and Americana. The Peddler IS restaurant Americans that is missing from most big cities these days. Legitimately good steaks. A post-COVID salad bar. Delicious desserts. A beautiful view of the river. This is a must eat place that reminds me of a great Wisconsin supper club transported to Tennessee. And the service is stellar -- trained, friendly staffing happy to clear plates, whereas other establishments have seemingly given up on bussing altogether.

Cassandra M.

Yelp
Don't forget to make reservations ahead of time or you likely won't find a table available! The service was amazing and definitely fine-dining level. Raven and the rest were so attentive and we never lacked for anything. The salad bar was the best! It had everything you could want on a salad and you make your own. The steak peddler dropped by our table with ribeye and New York strip. We ordered the ribeye and he cut it there at the table. Our steaks came out quickly. The fries were good and the baked potato was perfectly cooked. I asked if I could get cheese and bacon from the salad bar and one of the servers was so kind and brought it to me along with some chives just in case I wanted them (which I most definitely did!). Rarely do I take leftover baked potatoes home as most aren't well cooked but this one came with us! The steak was cooked to the correct temperature and Juicy. Unfortunately, both my husband and I found the steak to be pretty bland. All in all it was good and we walked out full.

Michael W.

Yelp
Service was absolutely horrendous. Parking is a huge problem. Front staff were extremely rude, and called my wife a bitch in Spanish.

AnnMarie W.

Yelp
Visiting with Friend. Loved the salad bar. It has some many options. We all loved that. We all ordered steak They were all cooked perfectly. Our server was wonderful. Friendly and attentive. We truly enjoyed it. We Hen visiting again Peddler will be on the list to visit.

Gerri B.

Yelp
Always good food, good service.Awesome salad bar. I had the Filet this weekend ,cooked to perfection .

Macie S.

Yelp
This is a definite experience! We loved everything about this restaurant. I ordered the ribeye and it was perfectly cooked and melted in my mouth! The salad bar being included is a huge plus! We sat by the creek and it was absolutely beautiful with the snow falling. The blueberry margarita was the best I've had! We will be back!!! The service was absolutely amazing.

Timmy T.

Yelp
Tha salad bar is great all you can eat with a decent variety of The hot rolls with butter were delicious the shrimp were gut ok hence the 4 star Service and ambiance is good Would go there again

Marissa P.

Yelp
Excellent food. I loved their salad bar (unlimited). The veggies were all fresh & yum. Delicious, warm bread rolls with butter. Steak was cooked perfectly and so tasty. Service could have been a bit better. Still definitely a good spot in the Smokies for a nice, filling meal!

Daniel R.

Yelp
They come to your table and cut your steak the way you want it! Awesome and Kylie our waiter is above and beyond caring and super quick.

Marco D.

Yelp
Lousy, lousy, lousy!!! Very disappointed! Not worth the price! We went there this past Sunday for an early Valentine's dinner. They advertise a "world-famous salad bar.". Believe me, there is nothing famous about it. Except maybe that only a few places have a salad bar anymore. It is okay at best. They do cut your steak in front of you...which is NOT a good idea because you can see for yourself that your steak is only half the size it was before it was cooked! To borrow an expression from days gone by, THAT STEAK WAS TOUGHER THAN A GOVERNMENT MULE!!! We ordered it medium; part of it was medium; the other half was medium--well, it wasn't burnt, just tough. We were planning on talking during dinner but didn't get a chance to; we were too busy chewing! Just because a place is expensive and they make you make reservations does not mean that it is going to be a good place. Save your money and get better steaks and a way better salad bar at Wood Grill Buffet or Golden Coral. This place is not worth the money!

Kandace A.

Yelp
My husband and I were treated to a date night here as a wedding gift! Our reservation was for 6p and we were seated immediately. I definitely recommend dining by the river for a more intimate experience! Our server was kind and attentive throughout the night, as well as other staff who refilled our drinks and took my husband's steak order. The salad bar is definitely a huge perk. There were tons of topping options that were refreshed/refilled consistently throughout our dinner. I had high hopes for the food since so many people have had such good things to say about this place. It was fine, but I honestly didn't LOVE anything I tried. What I ordered: Fried Mushrooms & Cauliflower Portabella Chicken with a side of Wild Rice My rating is closer to a 3.5 out of 5. Overall, I'm grateful we were gifted the experience and that we were able to try The Peddler, but I'm not sure if I'd return in the future.

Patricia W.

Yelp
Food was very good, waitress was attentive! Salad bar was clean and had lots of fresh salad ingredients

Shannon O.

Yelp
Cool atmosphere. The prime rib was fantastic. I love the salad bar, could make a meal out of that. Our server was great. Looking forward to doing it again when I get to Gatlinburg.
