The Scrappiness of Portland’s Food Carts Made Them Leaders During the Pandemic - Eater Portland

"The teams behind barbecue hotspot the People’s Pig, vegan Indian standout the Sudra, and, more recently, Chinese restaurant Bao Bao and St. Johns pizzeria Gracie’s Apizza all started with carts." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Where to Find Serious Cornbread Across Portland | Eater Portland

"Food-cart-turned-storefront The People’s Pig is all about the greatest hits of Southern cuisine—after all, if ain’t broke, don’t fix it. The restaurant smoked its way into the barbecued heart of Portland, offering a menu of beef brisket and barbecue pork alongside all types of meat rubbed every which way in a rustic North Williams location. The side of cast-iron baked cornbread is the much-needed starch for the meat-centric dishes, blackened to a crisp on the outside with moist, crumby goodness on the inside."

Portland Reflects on the Impending Closure of the Alder Street Food Cart Pod - Eater Portland

"The People’s Pig was a food cart at the 10th and Alder Pod known for its delicious porchetta sandwiches, which featured Fleur de Lis ciabatta rolls, lemon juice, and pork fat. It was highly praised by Michael Russell of The Oregonian and left a lasting impression on many diners, including Josh Meyer and Jordan Curtis, who shared personal stories related to their experiences at the cart." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

So-so. I love the fact that they smoke their fried chicken before frying it but they use thigh meat instead of breast meat and ruins a great opportunity at something that could be really great. It also didn't help the flavor profile that everything seemed to be seasoned in the same exact spices. If you have an adventurous palate this isn't the place for you. The lamb was acceptable and the beef brisket tasted quality. They also have "fresh" lemonade that comes in a tiny glass filled with ice that can only be refilled once. It was pretty cold in there as well. The cook and the employee at the register were both polite and the Mac & cheese was better that I was expecting being that it was stovetop, that's why I'm giving it a 3.

This place is super legit... I got the smoked deep fried chicken sandwich which was excellent. My girlfriend got the brisket sandwich which I ended up waking up a few times in the middle of the night wishing I got that sandwich... Next time for sure!!! For sides we had some super cheesy mac and cheese and potato salad, both were excellent. Their draft beer was phenomenal, I had the Amber..

Cool neighborhood bar-b-que place. We tried the smoked lamb, smoked pork shoulder and brisket. All of the meats were very tasty. The sides: potato salad, maccaroni salad and corn bread and pork rinds were good. Nice draft beers to wash it all down with. We were there for happy hour, so we got our plates for $6 and the beers for $3! It's an order at the counter and bus your own table kind of place, with a cool atmosphere.

By far one of the best BBQ joints in Portland! My husband votes for it to be #1! I can see why it one of the nation's best Smoked Fried Chicken sandwiches. The chicken is juicy and incredibly tasty! The ribs had a great smoke and I loved the BBQ sauces. Cornbread and potato salad are also worth trying. I can't wait to come back and try out a few other things!

So good. Stopped on the way to airport out and got two meat and side plate. Huge portions. Brisket is delicious. Sausage was good, little dry. Mac and cheese amazing. Best bbq in Portland.

Best BBQ I've had in a looooooong time, and that includes stops in Texas. The smoked fried chicken took me to a different planet. Brisket was fantastic as well. The plates here are BIG, so come hungry!

The smoked fried chicken was definitely the highlight! Brisket was on the dry side, and the barbeque sauce was... different (vinegary and heavily spiced with cumin, I think?). But the cornbread was good and came drizzled with honey, and the pepper jelly was pretty great. Service was quick and friendly, cocktail was well-made, and I can't say enough good things about that chicken!

We wanted authentic American food and that's what we got. It was really good and the meat was so tender. We could taste the experienced hands in our food. Definitely a must go in portland.
