Portland Organizations and Grassroots Efforts Feeding Black Communities | Eater Portland

"I saw that Don't Shoot Portland supports Portland's Black community and fights police violence through legal workshops, protests, and community outreach potlucks, while also distributing food via mutual aid and free pantry events; in 2020 organizer Teressa Raiford donated more than $1,000 to food cart owner Kiauna Nelson to feed Black Portlanders, and the group partnered with pop-up Everybody Eats to donate 200 free meals to those supporting the Black Lives Matter movement." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Went here with a local friend. Really expensive paying full range price per person on a shared lane. Asked if they had any better 9 ammo and was told I should look into maintaining my gun. (Ha. My guns are cleaned, lubed, and very well maintained. ) So was kind of thrown back by that. Target selection was minimal. Cost of ammo… paid like double retail cost because they require you use their ammo. (Or $5 surcharge on 50 rounds. The 22 ammo I use is $8 for 100 at a store. )As I was putting my ear and eye pro on, some customer was speaking with I’m assuming some type of employee/ instructor and flagging people. Oof. And employee was telling her she should go get a ccw. I get into the range and some employee “range officer” asked me twice what my firearm was. Either he didn’t like the answer or didn’t hear me, then asked my friend what his firearm was (same firearm in question.) I didn’t think a mark iv would be unrecognizable for someone working around firearms. Definitely not a range I’d be interested in returning to, mostly because getting flagged by a customer is not ok.

Came here with some family members last week. I thought it was great! Friendly and helpful staff. I’ll definitely be back!

Google
My favorite spot for shooting handguns hands down! The owners are staff are all very friendly people who are pretty chill and have decent selection and fair prices. Been here, give it take 5-10 times.

Brandon E.

Google
People were really friendly. Greeted by happy dogs which was awesome. First time to a range. The place had an old school feel, like it had been there forever which is nice. They have couches, a T.V. on… dogs chewing on toys and wagging tails. People learning firearms safety in the background.. I love it. Reminds me of old Portland. I’ve heard people say they think the lanes are dark but I never had an issue or thought about the lighting once. Kind of a bummer you have to pay 5$ per box if your own ammo, but after paying a membership fee of 85$ it’s only 10$ for Sundays or 15$ on any other day, so I can shoot on a rainy day for less than what it would cost me in fuel to drive out to the woods, even if I’m paying to use my own ammo.

Google
A place to shoot is a great range. I think the staff is great and willing to help with anything. I also really appreciate the fact that they take COVID-19 seriously. Julie is great and always cleans surfaces after people use them. Prices are fair. I mean most targets are .85 cents to 2 bucks. I bring ammo since 380 ammo is hard to get but 5 dollars a box is also fair. I recommend this range for anyone who is new or extremely experienced at shooting. New review 2024- I have been loving this range. The owner is great!!! They keep the range clean and prices are more than fair. With my membership I usually pay 25-35 dollars per visit. A few boxes of center-fire rds and 100 22lr. Best in Portland

Payton D.

Google
3 adorable dogs to love on while visiting, had a blast and the owner comped my husband's rental on his birthday. Very kind people who put safety first.

Google
An excellent place for the new shooter to get professional instruction in a comfortable, convenient, and safe environment. I have been a shooter for 60 plus years and took my 17 year-old Neice and her boyfriend for their first experience with firearms. We all had a lot of fun and learned how to how to handle guns safely!

Isaac

Google
It took my a long while to stop in at The Place To Shoot. I love a short distance away, so it's quite convenient. However, I've been shooting outdoors for years which allows me to do drills from the holster and while moving. Doing so, however, requires a lot of driving to get to a suitable place. My first visit to The Place To Shoot sealed the deal for me and I bought an annual membership. I'm still able to work on aim and can do the rest of my training and long gun stuff when the weather permits. They do have a tactical range that would allow most of my handgun drills, I cannot justify the cost; gas pencils out to be cheaper.

Yelp
Always friendly Julie is knowledge and helpful! If you're looking for a place to shoot, this is the spot.

Yelp
I made a reservation for a beginner safety handgun class with my friend -- it's pre-paid, nonrefundable, small class size of 3 or less. My friend and I arrived and met another person who was there for a lesson, too. Upon entering, we were greeted by some doggos, too -- hella cute but might be a problem if you have allergies. I have used guns before, but my friend had never held a gun. The instructor was knowledgeable, friendly and not robotic. The class was well-paced and hands on. You have to purchase ammo to shoot (you pay after) -- I'm aware because I read it on the website. They provide the gun, two targets and safety ear and eye protection. All went well & we were safely, comfortably shooting in no time. I recommend! Some folks talk about it being expensive -- it is a little pricey but definitely worth it.

Michael D.

Yelp
I took their basic handgun class and was not only impressed with it, but had an absolutely great time. The instructor was awesome, and the whole experience was as trouble- & hassle-free as I could've imagined. The facility is nice and -- at least for me -- the location is super convenient. I'll add that there isn't a hint of politics anywhere to be noted in the place or throughout the whole experience. Not that I'm saying people aren't entitled to whatever alignments appeal to them, but I was thoroughly expecting for the experience to be skewed in a **particular** direction, and it wasn't at all. The focus is solely on safe enjoyment of the activity, for all. I'll 100% be back.

Yelp
This is absolutely one of the coolest places to go and shoot when you need a range. Premier indoor shooting range right in our backyard. I think I counted twenty one indoor lanes allowing for shooting in comfort year round. My first time here and Julie (owner) welcomed me as if she knew me for years!! They have first time shooters classes and concealed weapon courses. Courses are from certified instructors, and getting a membership is probably the best way to go about it. I did the VIP membership. This is one of the few if not only range that allows a customer to bring in their own ammo. There's a fee however the price of ammo today could be beneficial to buy elsewhere. I buy their ammo, I prefer to support the local businesses when I'm out and about. Great place!

Yelp
This is a fantastic facility that provides ample space to shoot pistol caliber firearms. Always a kind and welcoming person behind the counter, this has been a go-to for many years!

Richard S.

Yelp
Its a simple place, NOTHING fancy. They are dependably courteous and friendly and always as helpful as they can be. The one armed female that's in charge is ALWAYS the most helpful. They require you to buy your ammo from them OR you can bring your own for a fee. That's a bit unconventional but its their way to do bizness. And you can shoot all day for one fee. Gun rentals available, targets are available too.

Eric P.

Yelp
This is a great place to shoot! The staff here are very friendly. This was my first time shooting at a range and the entire staff was very friendly and helpful. Brandon answered all my questions and I really enjoyed their facility. It has a great feel to it. They make you feel welcome even as a brand new shooter. Plenty of lanes to use and the entire staff is professional. Really enjoyed my first range experience & will definitely be back. They make you feel at home!

Norman J.

Yelp
Most expensive shooting range I've ever been to without any benefits of any great infrastructure. Once the place in Beaverton opens, this will be out of business. SafeFire Vancouver is worth it even if it's an extra 25 min drive. Beautiful location and way cheaper. No range should ever be more than 25$ per session... This is $35 plus ammo fees if you bring your own. This is a joke!!!! Insane.

Wesley W.

Yelp
As an avid shooter, this is the biggest ripoff as a range in the area, plenty of ranges without useless fees like "must buy our own targets"

M F.

Yelp
I started shooting here when the first opened in the early 90's ... the owner was a guy named Dave (and his wife) . They were wonderful business owners as well as experienced shooters. They were extremely helpful and instructive to new shooters. They rented quality firearms, sold ammo at a reasonable markup and allowed you to bring your own ammo. The place was staffed with experienced range officers who would assist beginners; keep the range and gun handling SAFE for everyone. I moved away for a few years - when I returned to Ptld, the ownership, and management had changed. They were no longer friendly to customers who were not regulars. You can no longer shoot your own ammo; the fee's went up drastically. Also, the cleanliness of the facility needed some attention. The range area was extremely messy. Dogs running around, and a lobby that looked more like a sports bar. Maybe this is inviting to some - but not to this experienced shooter. If you are New to shooting - this place is accessible to the general public (easy to become a member) and is close to the metro area. As soon as you become serious about shooting - I would suggest joining a serious range (Ptld Rifle and Pistol, Tri-county gun, Newberg Rifle & Pistol, etc.). A serious range offers a more serious (and safer) experience - some have a waiting list and higher 'up front' fees. But in the long run, it is cheaper to shoot at these ranges - (you can bring your own ammo, targets are often provided, and if there is a daily lane fee it is just a few dollars).

Yelp
Scam gun range. So many fees for this or that. I've never seen or heard more BS from a gun range before. Do NOT take their CCW class either. If you are proficient with firearms, google online CCW classes Oregon and you'll find it for half the cost. I've been in here numerous times and the people are very condescending to customers that are trying to learn about the hobby. Additionally, guy behind the counter swept everyone in the store on two different occasions. These are the type of people that think their skills are above all else and the safety rules don't apply to them. Their ammo is way over priced. You CANNOT bring your own. Want to train with your duty ammo or own self protection ammo? Don't even think about it. You have to pay them 3-4x the going rate for ammo. Oh! You're a member here? You pay $300+ a year here? Okay, you still have to pay to rent a lane. I've only seen this at 2 ranges out of a dozen. These people are crazy! Most importantly!! The 5 Star reviews on here sound like shills for this place. They read as poorly written sponsored reviews that the owner hired out.

Yelp
This place is great. I get tired of people bitching about the pricing and the rules about ammo. They are a business and making money is part of that. If you don't like the prices, don't complain, just go some other place. It is that simple. I reload some of my own ammo and sure I would like to be able to bring it, but I understand and respect why they choose to not allow it. In this day and age everyone feels the need to complain instead of just excepting things for what it is. So if you don't like it...move on. Julie and the gang are very nice and helpful. If you think otherwise, you are lying or you are having a bad day and want to blame someone else for your misery. This place is nice and clean. I like the fact that it is only for pistols, especially for an indoor range. Never super busy, at least the times I have been there. The pricing is no better or worse than other gun ranges. I also like how easy it is to get to. The best part of all is that they support the blue and our veterans. I am a member and wish I had time to go more often.
google avatar

Lars C.

Yelp
Was here for the first time today. Overall its a great place. The price isn't too bad in my opinion. Totally understand the charge per 50rds. It's a local business and I'm always down to support a local business. Staff was very friendly. Told the person at the register how I was shooting about an inch or 2 around the 8/9 o clock from the bull and without hesitation gave me a few pointers. So I thought that was pretty cool. They're still open during this pandemic. So check it out.

Yelp
This place is great. Im new to shooting so nothing to compare it to but, Its clean, everyones friendly, the have different guns to rent and see if you like them. Did i mention they have a dog. Every business needs a dog. The prices are good imo. You can also get in and out quick and then stop by a hayden meadows store while youre there. That makes it worthwhile to swing by and shoot a few rounds. A range in the city. You cant beat that. It was comfortable for a newbie too. Im enjoying my trips there and with a yearly membership, its a deal.

Debra C.

Yelp
This place is great. The staff is helpful, they let you share lanes, and don't freak out when I help a friend get familiar with their firearm. A lot of places require you to know how to operate or pay for their classes, no help allowed. I'm totally baffled by some of the negative reviews. I've been to four ranges in the area, and all charge a reduced lane fee for members, this is not unusual. Membership is NOT $300/year, not even close. Yes, there's an ammo charge, just like most other places (do you really think they'd be able to stay open without charging for things? They're a business not a charity). I've only ever seen the staff be rude to customers who were jerks. So, don't walk in acting like a #$&! and you won't get treated like one.
google avatar

F J.

Yelp
I love the staff here ans the environment. It is important to me as a person of color to feel safe and welcomed and I experienced just that each time I go to the place to shoot. The staff are funny, accommodating, honest.
google avatar

Aria J.

Yelp
I love this place - yes you do pay for Ammo or $5 per box that you bring in. Yes it's a little expensive - but you can have the lane all day, it's rarely packed full of people, the staff (Julie especially) are SO NICE. I come from NW to sneak in a quick hour of shooting on my way home or to work. Really nice people, clean facility. Coffee, bathrooms, etc. I do recommend it, but it won't be the dirt cheapest place you shoot - go to the woods for that
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing place to shoot! Super friendly staff! It's so nice to have a place to shoot and it's actually called that haha. Prefer this to clackamas public safety range!

Pat M.

Yelp
I was a member for years and it seemed like every third time id go in the woman behind the counter would play "the ammo game" where when shed see id brought my own ammo in hoping to avoid buying their ridiculous overpriced low quality ammo and she would always make some snide remark about how she "preferred the ammo come in its factory boxes" to which i always replied i understand this but unfortunately i already have thousands of ammo in cans from many years of stocking up but a visual inspection should make it evident that this is indeed new factory brass, which btw the only reason i even purchase is because you guys demand it. so it would go like this literally every third time id go to shoot for the entire 3-4 years i was a member until today which was the final straw in my book, i spend no less than $100 whenever i go in there whether or not i bring my own ammo or not, which often times id still end up buying their ammo as well when id go in. i overlook their target prices and chalk it up to the cost of doing business but when they were gouging $40 for 50 rounds of 45 acp in the middle of 2021 i was like no thank you and even bought mtm bullet cases to make inspection and counting easier for them but that still wasnt enough, and despite me pleading that i only buy in bulk she replied "well you need to bring in that box then" and then started getting downright petulant so i grabbed my things and got the heck out of there. i had heard bad things about them for years from my local gun shops and others in my community but still wanted to give them the business despite the crummy customer service, but now im done having to overpay (twice) to shoot some handgun when i can literally go anywhere outside of town and do it for free. my advice is if you dont want to pay their prices or play their games then dont, im not anymore. oh and the "CCW" classes are a scam you can take a free online test at oregon.gov to complete your proficiency requirement to get your Oregon CHL. Yelp
This review is long overdue. Been coming here since purchasing my first pistol a year ago. Staff has always been helpful and Julie and the guys always make me feel very welcome. Have taken all of their classes up to defense handgun 1 and only wish that I could sign up for more. Availability seems a little tight. Ammo is priced fine for me being a member. Just be polite and safe and you'll have a great time. Thanks for helping to feel comfortable as a new gun owner!
google avatar

Kevin H.

Yelp
We took the hand gun 1 class. Julie is an excellent, warm and helpful instructor. She explained everything, answered all of our questions. She made being a new shooter not so daunting. Her expertise and advice Led us to choose to purchase the firearms she picked for us to train with. I'm glad we got the membership. We'll be back soon.
google avatar

Kevin A.

Yelp
I returned a couple of times. My review is unchanged. Still outrageously expensive, and still a very average range. You'd be better off finding a nice, quiet patch of BLM land and building your own target stand. If you know little about firearms and would like to rent a gun and take a shooting lesson, this isn't the worst place you could go.

Ziv S.

Yelp
OK, so yeah the ammo price is a joke because there are a bunch of other places to shoot that dont do that. It is cheap compared to a nice outdoor clubs. Thats not the issue, The issue is being a member and still being charged every time I go in for the ammo that I already paid for.... I went and they were busy and the staff could not handle the crowd at all. I was BARREL SWEPT by someone during a Pink Pistol League event, and the gun user didnt react as I told him that he just pointed that at three people; the one person at the desk, told me along the lines of oh yeah its hard to keep an eye on them. I am 28, not amazing behind the gun but...damn. 2 stars because the rental selection...existed and they are fair on the price on guests,

Yelp
Came in here to shoot one day (11/18 early afternoon). The overweight guy behind the counter was extremely rude when he found out I was from California. Said multiple times to my face that he "loves taking my money" but also "loves when I go back home." It was extremely unprofessional. I came in with my own gun, own ammo and just wanted to shoot for an hour. He quotes me a price of $80??? Plus a "corkage" fee of $5 per box of ammo if I don't buy his overpriced ammo from him?? Says with the money I can keep the lane all day?? Who shoots for 8 hours? In "expensive" California, my local indoor gun range charges $15 per hour for the lane without all the BS. I just walked out. If you're the owner of this company and reading this, your employee is horrible. If you're the owner and manager that day, you should fire yourself and hire someone with the right attitude towards customer service. As a business man I hope you can appreciate that this review will cost you hundreds of dollars of lost revenue due to bad word of mouth. Change your attitude or go out of business. Simple.
google avatar

Rachel D.

Yelp
To RM., the Californian complaining before me. You don't realize this is a members only club. You were quoted $80 because the one year membership is $75 and they charge a $5 "corkage" fee (as they should) for not buying your ammo there. You even get to shoot free the day you buy membership. Geez, maybe he was right cause you clearly didn't listen! Once you're a member it's $10-$15 per visit and guests of yours are always $10 per visit. Pretty sweet deal to me and it's a great spot. I also know who you're talking about and he's a really nice guy that's been there for years. You either took offense to his sense of humor or you came in with an ego and he didn't care what you chose to do. I'm guessing it was the latter since you refer to humans as "overweight guy behind the counter". You writing an ignorant review thinking that your little tissy fit is worth someone losing their job over is laughable. You need to get your facts straight and go back to CA if you like the loosely run shooting ranges there better. Truly right, Rachel

Yelp
Been here a few times - and like many of the other reviews, I agree that the prices for ammo here is waaay expensive. I wouldn't have a problem with their rule of "no outside ammo allowed" (ie, you aren't allowed to bring your own) if the prices were fair. Also, like other reviews I've read - the staff is extremely rude. It's a shame bc the place is fairly nice, and right in the Portland area. However due to the extravagant prices and poor customer service - never again. I also do my best to steer other shooters away from here as well - which hasn't been difficult bc all of them have had similar experiences there. 7/13/18 Update in response to the owners comments: My review about your extravagant prices isn't "recent" although that's when it was posted. And you are correct! I haven't been back since 2013!!! I appreciate you're trying to defend negative reviews. However, you are still UP-CHARGING for outside ammo. This is nothing more than gouging your customers. A 10% charge is just that - gouging. Furthermore, I know who you are and how rude you are to customers (and I'm also not surprised why you say you are "confused" - you don't come across as the smartest person) - I've seen it MULTIPLE times. Condescending attitudes make me (and apparently MANY other of your customers) leave your business bad reviews. Try as you might - you can't run from the bad experiences multiple customers have had at your range. Nice try, but no dice. It's hilarious to me that in your response you indicate (lie) about how important customer reviews and service are to you. Please... your customers see how transparent you are. Just stop.

Yelp
I hit this place on New Year's Day. They were open when my other public options, aside from the backwoods, were all closed. We just didn't click. As a non-member, this place is pricey like Prada. I also found it to be rather dark. It was not terribly crowded when we were there, so that was a plus. Mirroring the lack of patrons was a noticeable lack of staff. There was maybe one woman at the front counter. Call me crazy, but I expected it to be more robustly staffed given that every one in the place was armed. I would certainly go back in a pinch...on payday when I'm feeling flush. I much prefer the bright atmosphere of the Clackamas PSTC, but the atmosphere here at TPTS may appeal to some. They do have a cooler than cool dog who occupies the front lobby.

Yelp
I'm working my way back into it after 25 years off, so I'm basically starting from scratch. I took the intro course, relaxed and informative. It really helped me get back in the drivers seat. Been there a few times since, safe, relaxed, and a good lane to get it done is easy to get. Would have rated them with 4 stars, but I threw in an extra because I saw them treat, IMO, a fairly snobby/insulting customer with kind professionalism. I would have asked them to leave, this is why don't own a business. So, right on to them, they're good folks running a good local business. Shoot 'em if ya got em'
google avatar

Walter S.

Yelp
I know a lot of people seem to like this place, but I find it to be way too expensive. I will never go back based off the $35 lane fee alone. That's just way too much money. Especially considering I live just off 205 near Johnson Creek. The location is horrible for me as well. The people are decent enough. It's just too expensive to shoot here for my taste. EDIT: I should add that you can pay the yearly membership fee which is I think $75 and then your drop in fee varies from $10-$15 depending on what day you go. This is pretty much the only way to make this place reasonable.
google avatar

Sadie J.

Yelp
Expensive, quirky and not very friendly. This place will not let you come in to shoot unless you bring your own gun. They are fearful or have had a bad experience that unfortunately limits them. If you're a first time shooter it is impossible to go here. You need to have a gun. So you ask yourself, how am I going to get experience shooting if I don't have a gun? And how will I know which gun to buy if I can't try out various weapons? Well, those are all great questions and you will not find answers here at 'The Place To Shoot'. They insist on their website that you bring in ID, but when I tried to give it to the woman who runs the place, she didn't care. There were some gangster looking guys in there shooting so- if you've got a gun- you're in. Made me uneasy. By the way- the range is freezing. No heat. You will freeze your tush off as well as your hands trying to handle a gun. It's so loud inside the range and busy and crowded. I've been here once and that was plenty for me. There are lots of other places to try in the Portland area. For my money, I'm going to Eugene once a month to the Baron's Den for my shooting practice.
google avatar

Udayan K.

Yelp
Great experience. Can't ask for more. I went here with my wife. First timers. Friendly staff. Went through the basics with us patiently and switched us to a gun we were both comfortable with. Facility was clean and organized. Equipment was great. Zombie targets available :-) Safety is well taken care of, without being too prohibitive. Tip : don't take off the headphones in the shooting area for even a second ;-) Pay once, shoot for as long as you want. Just need to keep buying ammo and targets, which is not expensive. You do have to shell out some cash, but for using a real gun and an experience you will always remember, it's very good. They also have membership plans if you really get into it.
google avatar

Brittany M.

Yelp
On my second visit I got a membership and here's why... Wonderful customer service, knowledgeable staff, in a clean and safe facility... What more do you need? After my first visit a month ago with my husband I returned by myself to find Richard, Julie, and the office pooch just as charming as ever. My husband the ammo tech is an walking encyclopedia for most firearms, and typically earns the respect of fellow aficionados with what seems like little effort. I on the other hand being a bit of a Curious George, not so much. As I'm in the market for a secondary personal protection piece I was delighted by their helpfulness and selection. Not only did they have the models I had been considering, when I hit goldilocks territory and nothing seemed to be a good fit they suggested a few other models that better suited me (and Julie even gave a couple helpful pointers that have improved my grouping :) I'm very glad to have found this place!"

Ron W.

Yelp
Run. Run far away from this money pit! First, the facilities are just okay. They have guns to rent. The reason for only 1 star is that this place picks your pocket coming and going. In no particular order.... 1. So, I'm a "member" but in addition to membership fees I have to pay to rent a lane? So, what's a member then? lol. 2. Employees were at best rude. 3. You have to buy your ammo here, and it's overpriced. No, not overpriced compared to Walmart, like one of their defenders here says. It's overpriced compared to any other random place that sells ammo in the metro area. 4. If you want to bring your own ammo, they charge you $5 per box of ammo to shoot it. Yes, they charge you to shoot the ammo you've already purchased. Sadly, they charge so much for their own ammo that they want you to buy, buying just about any ammo at any price off the shelf is still going to be cheaper with the $5 fee on top of it. 5. You have to buy targets here too. Yep, like the ammo it's overpriced. No, not compared to Walmart, compared to literally every sporting goods store in the metro area that sells targets. For everything you're paying here, you are not getting the benefit of money well spent. I've belonged to expensive ranges, where there was actually a reason to buy their ammo, but this place isn't one of them. It's like any dime a dozen range you've been to, only here they charge 5-6x the amount of anywhere else. Their minions won't like this review, just like they don't like any other review that talks about high cost and average at best facilities. I would never recommend this place for an reason. I would never shoot here again. I would never suggest anyone ever come here.

Yelp
Awesome location, great staff. They have a collection of rental firearms for you to rent. They also offer CCW Classes.

Yelp
We received a "basic handgun" class for Christmas and enjoyed the experience. The staff was great, facility was clean and safety was a priority.

Yelp
This place is awesome! Great staff, great guns. Perfect for first timers, like me.

Yelp
I took a basic handgun class here after listening to the raves from a friend of mine, who's a member; had a fabulous time, and will likely go back for more. The class was tiny, just 3 of us, 2 hours long, and it was a great introduction, considering I'd never so much as touched a gun before. The others in my class were guys, as was the teacher, but I definitely got the sense that the place is women-friendly - one of the owners is female, which likely helps set that tone. At any rate, the class was awesome, and a great way for novices to check out this place and see if it's something that appeals to you, whether it's just for a one-time class or a more involved hobby!

Yelp
Friendly service, good covid safety measures being taken. Would come shoot here again anytime

Yelp
Pointlessly confrontational, confusing and apparently incapable of simple communication. Rude to the point of absurdity and will threaten you with firearms if you let their rudeness and incompetence get to you. Also absurdly expensive. You can save a huge amount of money and get better facilities by driving 35 minutes to Threat Dynamics. Simply a terrible experience.

Yelp
Ignore the bad reviews. The staff is friendly and helpful and the facility is nice. I get being annoyed at having to pay a little extra for things like targets and ammo but the place has to keep its doors open somehow. At least for me I'm looking at $3 more for their ammo than the cheapest stuff I've found. I was really skeptical because of the bad reviews and after shooting here once I went back and joined 2 days later.

Yelp
Right now I am impressed with the level of helpfulness, even as I am totally NOT a gun person. Nor would I ever go here if it weren't for my son and his Dutch friends visiting who wanted 'to shoot' because that is so an American thing to do for fun... We have a lesson standing for tomorrow, and I will update this to share their feelings afterwards. Well, well. Excellent teacher, they had. He took his time to show all aspects of gunnery and was very careful and cautious and thorough. When they got done with all of it, I saw two big smiles. Their actual feedback: mighty fine and awesome!!!

Yelp
Speeeendy... They put on great classes though. It would be nice to go somewhere that doesnt cost so much though. I mean if they charged less more people would go and then it seems they would make more money. No? Very well organized and safe though.

Yelp
Again I'm seeing people comparing prices on ammo and yet I'm not seeing enough difference to substantiate the harsh complaints. TPTS 9mm is currently $14 per box. I've found boxes of 115 grain online for $11 to $13 may or may not include shipping. But if you don't think the extra couple dollars is justified even though you're getting to use facilities with expensive overhead costs then maybe shooting isn't the sport for you or maybe you don't understand small business well enough? If you know places that carry decent 9mm Luger FMJ for under $10 shipping included for 50 rounds I'd love to know about it. If you think a measly membership fee divided out over every potential day you could use their facilities in a year's time will keep their doors open, then you're misinformed.

Yelp
Staff is generally friendly however, I hadn't been in for 6 months and when I came back I appeared to frustrate the owner for having a box of mixed ammo and was told that it couldn't happen again because they were possibly reloaded. If ever I were going to shoot a reloaded bullet (I wouldn't) I certainly wouldn't do it at the range. I also don't mind having to pay an ammo inspection fee but clearly anyone inspecting ammo should be able to tell the difference between what's reloaded and what's not. Sometimes shooting gets expensive and I can't afford to bring brand new boxes in when I have ammo boxes full of the bullets that I want to shoot. I was really looking forward to having an enjoyable time after recovering from surgery and not shooting for 6 months at this range. Instead I almost felt ashamed that I couldn't present brand new ammo that I can't afford right now because being a member and needing one extra box of ammo here is $40 on a discounted range day. Since this place is miles from my home I would rather travel a little further to Threat Dynamics where I can at least shoot my AR-15 if I wanted too. I suppose buying a VIP membership to try to save some money did help a small amount but I definitely don't feel like a VIP going there. The extra money I spent was the same amount of money as a non-member range fee for threat so it really doesn't feel worth it. In summary if your close to the area and really just want to shoot pistols this may be the place for you. Just make sure you're not on a budget and you only bring expensive individual box ammo that will cost you 5 dollars more per box.

Yelp
3 Generation Vet here - This is a sloppy outfit. I was approached and told, "You don't have to announce when you're Firing or Clear... just shoot." Wife and I were gonna join, until this experience. Yea I know, sounds like I'm whining, but I can not join somewhere that will encourage me to undo safety, professionalism, and tack. This is not the place for Military Personnel! Oh by the way, after telling me to not announce my lane fire and clear, the guy asked me if I was prior military, then said "thank you for your service." REALLY?!?!?!? This is not the place for us Military Personnel! The stars I gave here were due to the clean facility, and other ancillary tools available to those on the lane(s).

Yelp
The Place to Shoot is a fantastic indoor range, with a friendly, helpful staff. I've been a member here for several years now, and the membership price and range fees are a lot lower than an indoor range closer to my Vancouver home. You can shoot your own ammo, but there is a flat $5.00 outside ammo fee per 50 rounds, so only bring in what you're going to shoot (you can always run back out to your car to get more if you want). Targets have to be purchased on site, and the prices are reasonable. If you've never been to an indoor gun range, it's much better than an outdoor range, where you must wait to be able to inspect your target. Here, after checking in and passing through double-doors, you have your own lane, where you can hang your paper target on a motorized, metal clipped frame. The switch to control the motor is in your own lane, so you can move the target out to whatever distance you desire. When you want to switch targets or inspect your target, you can just pull the frame back in via the switch--no waiting. The indoor setting protects you from the elements, so you can shoot your handgun even on rainy days. About the only drawback is that the walls make the sound louder. There are limitations on what you can shoot--basically, it's handguns and rimfire cartridge rifles. If you want to shoot a centerfire rifle cartridge, you probably should be outdoors anyway. Sundays are usually a good day to shoot, especially during football season. The price is lower, and depending on what distractions are going on, it's usually easy to get a lane. Mondays are also lower-priced, but they don't open until noon then. I've found the staff there to be friendly and helpful. They will engage in conversation, offer suggestions, and generally will check you in or out very quickly, though the need for safety will sometimes mean that the people in front of you might require more attention. Prices--their prices for ammo by the box are about the same as you would spend anywhere else. The cost of targets is pretty much in line with other ranges. You may have seen the whiny reviews on Yelp, but they paint a misleading picture. For an indoor range, The Place to Shoot is very affordable, especially if you purchase an annual membership. For example, as a member shooting on a Sunday, the cost is $10 for the lane, $5.00 to bring in a box of ammo, and $1.50 for a target. $16.50 total. Bottomline: The Place to Shoot is affordable, safe, and a fantastic indoor range. If you need to practice with your handgun, this is an excellent option! P.S.--what kind of person compares an online course to an in-person course and then whines about the cost difference? Good luck getting a questioned answered from a computer screen! Obviously, the cost difference involves having a real human to answer your questions and interact with you. Sheesh.

Yelp
Signed up for a year membership. The recommendation came from a buddy of mine who I trust. So far staff has been friendly and I feel safe in the environment. Really looking forward to going on a weekly basis. Thanks guys!

Yelp
This place is just a clip joint. (1) You have to use ONLY their ammo. They claim it's cheap and better than what you can buy at Wal-mart. Not true - it's overpriced compared to Wal-mart and the quality is usually lower. You'll be shooting PMC and WWB here, at prices higher than anywhere. Also, no choice of ammo - so forget trying out your daily carry ammo or anything like it. You can't request different ammo. If they wanted to look at your ammo for "liability purposes"...OK, fine, but if I'm bringing in factory-grade Federal, Remington, etc. don't insist that I use your crappy PMC with jacked up prices. (2) You can ONLY use their targets. Expect to spend $1.50 per. (3) They keep the brass! Sheesh - if I'm paying more than full price for the ammo, at least let me take the brass for reloads. Nope! (4) The environment is awful - broken lights, dim, poor HVAC. The atmosphere gets very thick and frankly the sound level is very high sometimes. (5) They're not very friendly and have zero idea of customer service. They're closed at the drop of a hat so you can never plan a day to go there. And they're not very friendly when you get there. I always felt like I, the customer, was a bit of an inconvenience. There are better places to shoot. Avoid this place.
