The 38 Best Restaurants in New Delhi - Eater

"Overlooking a wide green outdoor space, this cafe serves regional dishes from the rural areas of Bihar, a state in East India. Bihari cuisine is known for rustic, wholesome flavors, as well as grains like millet and flax, spicy chutneys, and charred meats. To start, get a basket of pakoras, fried fritters made with aubergines, potatoes, and onions served with coriander and tomato chutneys. Follow that with a Bihari burger made with onion-coated minced lamb and a fierce garlic chutney. Or try the gol mirch chicken cooked in a fiery pepper curry. The restaurant also has thalis with specialities from the region, featuring chokhas (fish or vegetables cooked to a paste), fried pooris flavored with spinach, signature dalpittis (flattened whole wheat dumplings served with lentils), fried potatoes, raita, and deep-fried chickpea flour snacks called boondis. Shahpur Jat: an ancient fort turned hipster hub in Delhi - SilverKris

"A cosy rooftop restaurant overlooking greenery that serves rustic, home-style cuisine from Bihar, known for dishes spiced with smoked red chillies. Signature items to try include Litti (whole-wheat balls stuffed with spiced chickpea flour, served with aubergine), Ranchi ka Pulao (pilaf rice with aubergine, lentils and peanuts, served with pickle and tomato chutney) and Ghugni Chura (beaten rice with black chickpea curry)." - SilverKris

Beautiful Rooftop Ambience: The café offers a charming rooftop setup overlooking greenery, making it an ideal spot for sunset views or relaxed evening conversations. The soft lighting, cane chairs, and open-air layout create a peaceful and cozy vibe away from city chaos. Perfect for Casual Meets & Dates: The seating arrangements are comfortable, well-spaced, and aesthetically pleasing. Whether you’re meeting friends, going on a date, or working remotely for a while, the atmosphere supports all. Authentic North Indian & Bihari Flavours: Potbelly is well-known for its Bihari delicacies, and they stay true to that identity. You can expect rich, flavour-heavy preparations with a homely touch. The portion sizes are decent and justify the pricing. Good Vegetarian Options: The menu caters well to vegetarian customers with a variety of unique dishes not commonly found in regular North Indian cafés. Great choice for Delhi’s vegetarian crowd looking for something different. Timely Service & Polite Staff: The staff maintains good hospitality, helps with recommendations, and ensures a pleasant dining experience. Service time is moderate—not too fast, not too slow. Private Dining Room Available: A plus point if you want to host a small gathering, meeting, or intimate meal. Privacy is well-maintained, and seating comfort is good. Pricing: The café sits slightly on the premium side, but the combination of ambience, rooftop setting, and unique cuisine makes it worth it for most diners. Great for special outings or weekend meals. Accessibility & Location: Located on the top floor behind UCO Bank in Shahpur Jat, the place is easy to find on Maps. However, parking in the area can get a bit tricky during peak hours. Cleanliness & Maintenance: The dining space is well-maintained, clean, and hygienic. The rooftop plants and décor add freshness to the overall environment. Great Spot for Photos: The ambience, especially during sunset, offers great photo opportunities. Ideal for people who enjoy taking aesthetic café pictures. --- Overall Verdict: The Potbelly Rooftop Café is a wonderful blend of unique food, peaceful ambience, and warm hospitality. If you enjoy rooftop dining and want to try flavourful Bihari/North Indian dishes in a relaxed environment, this place definitely deserves a visit. Perfect for both locals and travellers exploring Delhi.

I seized a precious moment when my son asked me to take him for lunch, an opportunity to immerse him in his heritage. Although he's never experienced authentic Bihari cuisine before, despite my roots, due to his father's Lucknow background, I joyfully took him on this culinary journey. The flavors were remarkably close to my childhood memories, satisfying my craving, yet leaving room for perfection. Moreover, the challenging climb up the narrow stairs tested our determination to reach the terrace, but the sense of accomplishment made every step worthwhile.

The food is unbelievably amazing, the taste is top notch and very authentic. Bihari cuisine is very underrated and I recommend and encourage every one to try it. The hygiene of the kitchen not so much. Servers are of really nice nature but amateur and unskilled and not attentive. Not for aged people as there is no lift and small and short stairs and the restaurant is on the fourth floor.

Was craving some litti chokha in delhi rains when I stumbled upon this place. Loved the ambience and the litti chokha. Service was pretty fast as well. Only downside is you have to be prepared to climb up 4 floors to enjoy the bihari delicacy here.

Amazing experience , flavors to die for ! Bihari food elevated to a new level. NOTE- THEY HAVE MOVED TO A NEW LOCATION they have moved to a new location - in hauz kas market ( behind naturals ice cream , opposite arobindo market ) . The owners are updating the address and it’s take a week apparently. So please make sure you go to the new and unbelievably beautiful location . They have a terrace section as well.

The place is really very nice. The food is so delicious, but it's a little overpriced. The service was very nice. The quantity of the sabji is platters are very much, that can be reduced a bit. I had litti chokha, which was very delicious. Must try their Maithali thali, it's very tasty. The behaviour of waiters were very nice and friendly. Always opt for mineral water over regular water because regular water had chlorine taste.
