All the Newest Restaurants in Charleston, Winter 2022 - Eater Carolinas

"From the makers of hot new wine bar the Tippling House, comes lunchtime spot the Press. The latest Coming Street venture offers griddled burritos full of chicken, steak, or beans (all with French fries as a filling) from chef Alex Yellan (formerly of Minero and Tu). The Press recommends ordering a side of chips with Tapatio hot sauce as a side. Status: Certified open." - Erin Perkins

Having lived in San Francisco for a decade, I am a sucker for a big old burrito. When I stumbled upon this place, I was hooked — tiny shack like building, one menu item (served three ways), and a bright yellow sign advertising their domain: burritos! The girl who took my order informed me the steak was a winner and that the owner had some cred being from California. That turned out to be true as my burrito was nicely layered, pressed and warmed and included a surprise — fries. I am guessing the owner hails from San Diego. Feels like a very local spot you have to work to find. Go get yourself a winner of a burrito.

Google
Got the steak burrito. The green sauce is amazing. Whenever you see a very limited menu, I get excited because it normally means that place is good at making those items. And the press doesn’t disappoint. Such great burritos!

Google
We got a bean burrito and sat outside in their cute garden dining area. It was no wait and quick. The bean burrito was good, not too big but good size. The prices are good too! It’s a great concept, small quick and 3 options. I love that they offer the bean burrito for those of us that don’t eat meat. Would be cool to offer a Gf option too.

Closest thing I’ve found to an authentic California burrito on the east coast. Perfect wrap, no mess. Perfect spread of all the goods Perfect amount of steak. Salsa options get a 8/10 from me. Would love to see the authentic spicy red sauce

I got the chicken with red sauce, and my best friend got the steak with green sauce. Everything was delicious and I loved the seating area. The staff was so pleasant as well. I will come here everytime I come to downtown. I wish I got photos, but it was so good I ate everything before I could.

First time going to The Press and had a great experience. Was nice talking to one of the regulars while waiting for my food to be ready.

This is not a sit-down restaurant, but a small walk up to the window, like old-school diner. Once you place your order, just step aside and wait for your name to be called when it's ready. It's kind of neat. Reminds me of two places from my childhood. Anyway, the only disadvantage is the fact that it's downtown Charleston, so traffic and parking is a beast. The staff were very nice and friendly, and they have a great system going with getting the orders filled in a timely manner. I ordered the steak burrito, and it was delicious. You have a choice of chicken, steak, or bean. The burrito has steak, cheese, fries, avocado, and pico de gallo, all pressed grilled in a flour tortilla to a crispy perfection. It's served with a bag of chips and sauce for more flavor. Filling is an understatement and again very delicious! Looking forward to trying another soon in the near future. Take advantage of their July Wednesday special to get a free burrito. Go to their Instagram page for more details and give them a follow. Oh, and The Press...please add yourselves on Yelp. I want to get you guys' name out there!

Google
The Press is a burrito specific restaurant. You order from a window in the front of the building. There is a small patio to eat in the back. The burrito and a diet coke was $20. Anywhere but down town I would say that is too high but being down town that seems about right. The burrito was excellent!!! It was tasty and filling.

Yelp
Feel so cheated and disappointed. 2/10 recommend. We are from San Diego originally so we had super high hopes for this place. The pictures we saw on their instagram made us feel like we finally found a true California Burrito in Charleston! Their instagram is just flooded with their gorgeous, hefty, cheesy, meaty burritos. What we got was pathetic. I've included both their instagram post of their promised burrito and what we actually got. Only giving a 2/10 because their flavors were similar to true San Diego Mexican street food. BUT The side by side and difference is staggering. I mean, we knew this as soon as they handed us the bag because it was extremely light. There was barely any protein in the burritos as you can see. It was basically all tortilla. Even halfway through the middle of the burrito was still tortilla. It was $35 for 2 steak burritos barely bigger than my hand. Honestly feel disrespected that they have the audacity to advertise something wildly different than what they actually are. We feel really cheated and mad.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this Burrito window for a while but its hours never work with my teaching schedule. Winter break was the perfect time to try it out! Ordered ahead and paid online. Arrived and burrito was ready within minutes. Fresh, hot, pressed to perfection and the hot green salsa/sauce was amazing. I used to live in San Diego and this is one of the best burritos I've had outside of SoCal. And the little pick up window under the green awning...adorbs! Highly recommend grabbing a steak burrito next time you find yourself in the area.

Yelp
Delicious burritos, with French fries in them, yes please! The mild red salsa is delicious too! I'll be back!

Yelp
I've been wanting to try out this burrito place on coming street for forever and I finally did last week and again today and it is phenomenal and couldn't stop thinking about it from the last time. This is top 3 burritos in Charleston for me. It has potatoes, chicken, guac, salsa and it's literally made with perfection. It's this hole in the wall on coming street sometimes you can miss it but park on the side of the street and just walk up, it gets busy on coming so just be careful of cars. It's a very quick you can also order online for pick up. I got the mild sauce last week and I liked it but I needed a little bit more heat, this week I got the green hot sauce and it was the perfect amount. It comes with a bag of lays chips with a Cholula hot sauce that you mix on it so good so good. they have a little patio, It's way too hot for me to sit out there but it's cute and they have some shade if you want to. I definitely recommend getting there earlier it opens at 11:30 and closes at 2:30. The service is great, sweet people that work there. I'm so sad that I didn't try it these past 4 years of living downtown but now I know and will be back frequently.

Yelp
I love this place so much. I need you guys to be open for another hour in the afternoon. I will literally work that extra hour. I love y'all's food, it hits every time. And I just want more of it! Please

Yelp
Small place with great burritos! Grab your food to go or eat outside on the patio. Cool find.
