Intimate basement wine bar with New American cooking

"When: Tues-Thurs 4-6pm The Deal: $2 Oysters, $8 Olives, $20 Charcuterie Board, $8 Old Fashioneds and Martinis, $10 Wine, $45 Dozen Oysters and Bottle of Sparkling Wine The West Loop has plenty of loud party bars, but after an exhausting day, sometimes the last thing we want is a busy spot filled with untz-untz music. Luckily, the area is also home to The Press Room, a speakeasy-esque, basement wine bar. And we like coming here for happy hour when we want a relaxing drink after impatiently waiting eight hours to set our Slack status to "Away." They only offer happy hour Tuesday through Thursday, but $8 Old Fashioneds and martinis plus $2 oysters are exactly the midweek pick-me-ups we need." - adrian kane, john ringor, veda kilaru
"Sometimes you need a retreat from the heat and the sun, and that is when you drop into The Press Room. This dark and cozy cocktail bar is located in what was once a holography museum, a casket factory, and a Free Methodist publishing house — though not all at the same time. Contemplate this eventful history over a Scarlet Whisper, made with Zacapa Rum No. 23, hibiscus, coconut water, lychee, palm sugar, lemon, and sakura bitters." - Vox Creative

"The West Loop gets so busy that, at some places, it’s not unheard of to run routes like a wide receiver to get to the bar. The Press Room isn’t one of those spots. It’s a basement wine bar on a secluded side street, and feels low-key even when it’s crowded. They have a great selection of wines, really good cocktails, and a short snacky menu that goes well with both. You'll want to hang out all night with some chilled Hungarian red wine and chicken liver mousse, even if you claim to be stopping in for a just minute." - nick allen, john ringor, adrian kane
"There’s no burger at The Press Room, either. In fact, this isn’t a substitute for Au Cheval so much as a journey into a new, Au Cheval-less reality. You come to this West Loop wine bar when you have reached a place of acceptance: that table-is-ready text may never come. This place is in a secluded area of the neighborhood, and it’s rarely crowded. They have a great selection of wines, really good cocktails, and a short small plates menu (with things like chicken liver mousse) that complements both. It is 100% not Au Cheval, and you’ll be OK with that." - adrian kane
"On June 6th, wine bar The Press Room is hosting a cigar and whiskey event on their patio. Tickets cost $65, and you’ll get a welcome cocktail, three pours of whiskey, a cigar to smoke, and a gift bag. And you can order barbecue dishes like a pulled pork sandwich, brisket, mac and cheese, and more. Reserve a spot here" - adrian kane
