"If you ask anyone where to get a cocktail on Nantucket, the Proprietors will probably be the first place they mention. Michael and Orla LaScola ushered the island into the era of craft mixology with their numbered cocktail menu, like a barrel-aged white Negroni and a house-bottled gin and tonic made with toasted rice and green tea-infused Japanese gin. The wine and beer selections are equally notable. The Proprietors is not requiring its customers to wear masks, but its staff will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Reservations can be made here." - Katie Faust Stryjewski, Eater Staff

The food here is phenomenal. The atmosphere is great. My one knock is the price tag. If you can get past that (if you can’t then you shouldn’t be in Nantucket)then you’ll have a great meal. Standout for us was the carrots but there was nothing that we ordered that we didn’t enjoy. I absolutely recommend this spot.

Google
The best dining experience in town for me in Nantucket. My girlfriend and I had a great laugh chatting in the relaxing environment. I strongly recommend a visit here with loved ones. The staff were extremely friendly. They helped me understand the menu and patiently explain the dishes to me. I was amazed by the creativity of the menu. I loved the arctic char salmon so much that I even licked the plate, not even mentioning how it was well-represented!! We had a great time sitting outside while enjoying the ambiance outdoors. It is definitely a great memory for us.

Have visited props several times across the years when I have been on Nantucket. They have consistently delivered and I find it refreshing to discover a new menu each season but which carries through the same feeling and quality. I live in London and for this level of food (mouth wateringly, lick the plate good) and the source of the ingredients (local, prepped on site) the prices are in line with major cities. This restaurant strikes a spot between fine dining but with a relaxed and familial atmosphere. It's not budget because you are paying for the sourcing. I feel this is overlooked in some reviews. The portions are designed for sharing and trying the broader menu. The cherry snap pea salad sent me to heaven and as a vegetarian there is a great range, with vegetables not left on the back seat unlike many locations. Experienced attentive and friendly service throughout. Love how much fruit they get into dishes. Cocktails not to miss.

Was seated on the second floor which had really nice vibe. All the plates were unique and vintage which were beautiful. Portion is bit small, but all the dishes were perfect! - best hummus I had in my life. The server was also very friendly. The only thing I didn’t like was diet coke because it came out in a tall thin glass with full of ice. It tasted bit like water and charged me $5 per glass. Even after two glasses, it felt little less than regular can.

Google
Unique dining experience. Gourmet flavored food. NOT your traditional dining place. If you are open to try something new and discover new flavors that is your place. Every season menu changes. Drinks are good. Staff is aways friendly. This season menu is mostly vegetable based. As a meat lover i was open to try different veggie options. Be open minded. Menu is definitely better than last summer. Prices are high I guess something normal for downtown Nantucket restaurant experience.

Now I understand why their fried broccoli is so famous! Also, great cocktail menu!

Google
Fantastic menu, service and atmosphere. It came highly recommended and did not disappoint. Really delighted that we spent our Saturday night in Nantucket here. We went for a selection across the menu to share between two: the tuna, cavatelli, the Korean short rib, the duck pancakes and the halloumi. Each dish was as delicious as the one served before it.

Google
Great atmosphere, great service and the food was very good. We got the (baby) scallops meal and it was hardly an appetizer. The price was 38$ very expensive. We left for another restaurant.

Yelp
I LOVED this meal. My sister and brother in law are friendly with the owners and this is their favorite spot to eat out in Nantucket. We got a nice quiet table upstairs and ordered lots of things to share and then we each ordered our own "entree". The menu consists of lots of "little" plates and lots of bigger plates. Obviously my sister had been there before so she took the lead in ordering the best share plates for the table. We tried: Red Lentil Hummus - sounds pretty standard - but the tender pieces of fried bread were drool-worthy, I have been thinking about them for days since. Pretzel parker house rolls served with duck pastrami. This is truly a small portion to share for more than 4 people - so we got 2 orders, the rolls are small (but mighty in taste) - I made myself a teeny duck pastrami sandwich. YUM! The Fried Broccoli - I have also been dreaming about this one for days..I live in San Francisco and I try a lot of amazing restaurants and foods, I have never tried anything quite like this, The broccoli had a very light sort tempura batter - but what stood out was the sambar and peanut component - I literally could have just eaten that for dinner and been happy - this one was indeed a large portion too. The carrots - another stand out - of all the dishes - i think maybe I could come close to replicating it - and I will try! The table also split the white fish salad and the fried green tomatoes with shrimp - but I sis not try those - as I am not a huge fish lover. For an entree I got the special - not listed on the menu - a housemade gnocchi with a lamb ragu with fresh mint and yogurt. Sublime!! - also a huge portion. At this point - why not order dessert? We shared the yogurt cheesecake and a chocolate peanut dessert. They both had so many things going on - I can't really remember - They were both spectacular and I wish I could remember the descriptions. A real treat meal in Nantucket and it was my favorite meal of my trip to the island.

Yelp
Proprietors features a lovely, homey (though extremely warm) interior making for an intimate dining experience. Small plates style, the menu is a tad confusing, as each dish is a different portion size and it was difficult to tell what and how many to order. Thankfully, our waitress was very helpful and explained each dish and its size to us with accuracy. Without her, we would have been lost. Every savory dish was excellent and unique. The highlight was perhaps the mushrooms, surprisingly, which had a strong yet pleasant vinegar flavor. The pork neck sauce and dressings were delicious, though it wasn't our favorite cut of meat. They were all good, albeit pricey--like everything else on Nantucket. Really, the only less than good dish was the dessert. All three options sounded delicious, and we watched with jealousy as the chocolate pot de creme and banana bread sundae went to other tables, but I am huge sticky toffee pudding fan, so we had to go with that. The cream cheese ice cream it was served with was AMAZING. Like, to-die-for, wish I could buy it in a pint back home, good. However, the actual sticky toffee pudding was dry and room temperature. We even asked the waitress whether it was invertedly not heated, but she said that was the way it was supposed to be served. Never before had I had a sticky toffee pudding not served warm. She said then the ice cream would melt, but, yes, that's kind of the point? So the dessert, despite the delicious ice cream, was a total miss. I will say, I had read other reviews before coming and was nervous by consistent complaints of poor service and pacing. And I'm not sure if we got lucky or the restaurant took to heart those criticisms and made changes, but our waitress was amazing and attentive and the food came out over a reasonable length of time. So, I don't share those same views.

Yelp
A small beautiful venue with dark accents and beautiful mismatched china plates. The food here is SO beautifully presented and every bite was delicious - I was full before we arrived but I could helped but continue to savour every dish. The whitefish salad, and the attic char was so well done - the carrots snd polenta was prob my favourite of all the favs, our table also devoured the semolina and the braised lamb shank actually melted off the bones. The apple cake was my fav dessert but the chocolate option with the fresh sorbet was a close second.

Yelp
I have been coming to this restaurant multiple times a year for years and I will be taking this restaurant off my rotation. I spent $300 and I left hungry. If you're going to charge that much for a bite of salmon crudo it should be good. It was basic olive oil on top of a skimpy maybe 1 ounce piece of what is alleged to be king salmon. I would've much preferred to pay a tenth of the price for that bite of salmon at an omakase which would have been creative and fresh. The beef tartare was loaded with parmesan, and when I looked underneath, some pieces were gray, you may get again an ounce of meat. For the dish side of baba ghanoush and the bitter peppers did not complement the delicate fish. The skin was soggy. Utter disappointment.

Kelly O.

Yelp
when someone says "you have to get the broccoli" i feel like you know it's going to be a good meal. when you can make a vegetable taste like the best thing you've ever had, im all in. the salmon crudo was melt in your mouth. cocktails were perfect. carolina paced our meal wonderfully. it's dark and moody, so I would recommend for smaller groups or a one on one meal for an intimate setting. definitely grab a reservation.

Margaret L.

Yelp
LOVED this spot! My friend and I made last minute reservations for one of their outdoor tables. The service was fantastic and friendly. We each had a cocktail with our dinner and split a bunch of items to share. We definitely over ordered but loved everything we had especially the Parker house rolls! The decor is super cute and I highly recommend this spot. The prices were on par or even a bit lower than other comparable spots on the island.

Steven K.

Yelp
Should have a Michelin star--everything is 5/5 simply divine. Service is great and wine list is unreal!!

Erin B.

Yelp
One of our absolute favorite spots from our trip to Nantucket. We sat by the bar, and the atmosphere was fantastic. My cocktail was complex and delicious -- my mom said it was one of her favorites she had tried in a looong time. We ordered the bluefish pate as a snack and it was great. The service was also really great. Can't speak to the entrees, but the atmosphere, cocktails, and appetizer gives me high hopes. We will definitely be returning next time we are in Nantucket!

Trish R.

Yelp
So looking forward to dinner here this evening and, although service & ambience were great, we were so disappointed with the food. Started with halloumi cheese plate which was cold when it arrived at the table and very salty. Then shared the lamb belly & cavatelli small plates followed by large plates scallops & pork collar. Lamb was flavorful but pathetically small portion. Cavatelli was undercooked and lukewarm when served. Scallops were mediocre as was pork collar. For prices charged there is very little value here and definitely not worth it. Would pass on Proprietors and look at other venues when on island.

Yelp
I read the mixed reviews on this place but I love Gastro Pub food so we made a reservation. The inside had dark pub vibes and was a nice atmosphere for a date night. This place is definitely $$$$$. If you are looking to spend $10000 on a bottle of wine (yes, I added the correct amount of 0s there) then this is the place for you. They had quite an extensive wine list. We had the Crispy Thai Broccoli, the sweet potatoes and the shrimp with a few cocktails. I did feel like my meal wasn't paced out very well, it seems like they really try to rush you through the meal and almost all our food was on the table before we could finish half a cocktail. I don't know if I would come back to this place again solely because it felt overpriced for a date night but the food was very good and I'm glad we went once.

Greg S.

Yelp
Best restaurant on Nantucket hands down. Highlights are the broccoli, pork shank and the mushroom ricotta toast. The martini is so delicious and unique as well. Highly recommend.

Simran G.

Yelp
Everything we ate here was incredibly delicious! The standouts of the night being the red lentil hummus and duck (recommended by our server) We would definitely come here again if in the area.

Yelp
Food- Over Salted- particularly the pasta course which we sent back. Service Very Good. Wine List- Bottles Started at $75 upwards to $1,200. Cocktails- Good- Espresso Martin not great by any means was from a cold press but made with tequila. And- and- they didn't bring out one of our appetizers which we didn't realize until we left (that part's our fault I suppose) but we paid for it and didn't get to eat it. We knew it was expensive before we went in but... Do however- prepare if you decide to go. Ambiance- Very Nice rustic in an old Nantucket Building in the heart of Downtown Nantucket. What dishes were good. Appetizers- Mistake mushroom app- very good & well prepared-seasoned appropriately. Pork and Rabbit Terrine- very good & well prepared though- IMO they should've diced the pluot and tossed it with some herbs and a little great oil and vinegar instead of just plopping down few hunks on the plate. Beef TarTare- excellent all in all. Entrees- Chicken- I thing brined- with lentils and bitter greens- also verging on overly salty and the lentils were basically non existent. Calamari with gigantic beans (love those) good well cooked and prepared also a bit salty - but again - needed more legumes- just put them on the plate for God's sake- they are the least expensive thing- I just don't get it. As of now, We've been there 5 times and now, honestly, unless we are invited to dinner will probably just go, sit at the bar, have a drink- maybe a snack and go dine elsewhere. Sorry to be brutally honest - but this review is with all good intensions- if I had a restaurant, I would want to know this. Side note but very important- The staff was awesome!

Yelp
Rude manager (Anna) threatened my pregnant wife with a no-show fee if she didn't sit back down and eat... The menu looked great and our server was friendly, but shortly after being seated, my pregnant wife fell ill and we had get home. After politely explaining our situation to the hostess, Anna, the manager, rudely threatened to charge us a $100 "no show" fee if we left. I can't fathom how any business could so blatantly disregard a customer's physical condition. This was on a Tuesday night and there were many other tables open. We would have returned. Now, we certainly won't. No business can survive with a manager like this. Ownership- If you're reading this, I suggest you reevaluate who runs your restaurant.

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
We came in here tonight to start our night with cocktails. My friend ordered a cocktail and since I was still waking up from a post-dinner nap I ordered a mocktail. The blonde bartender made my drink and after I was halfway through drinking it told my friend that she couldn't serve any more alcohol tonight, so my friend ordered a mocktail as well. However, we noticed a few minutes later other people were still being served alcohol so when my friend asked about it the blonde bartender said she thought my friend seemed drunk and she was cut off, which is ridiculous because both of us were completely sober. She had a smile on her face when she said it, and just seemed to enjoy being a mean girl. Lots of other reviews have comments about staff being unnecessarily rude, and they're absolutely correct

Katherine R.

Yelp
A fancy restaurant spot located downtown. We enjoyed GREAT food, awesome service and a cute, calming atmosphere. The bill was large but it was worth it for a celebratory dinner. My only complaint was that it was quite dark in the dining room so I wasn't able to take pictures of any of my food! We tried the crudo, fried broccoli, sweet potatoes, and fried chicken. I would recommend everything!

Heather R.

Yelp
For the price, the food was simply okay. The halloumi cheese had great flavor, but was just charred and not actually stringy. The focaccia was great quality. Sweet potatoes stole the show. My espresso martini was made with cold brew. I've definitely had better.

Timothy M.

Yelp
Went in to The Proprietors with my six year old son for "dudes night". He loves different foods, the people, and entire fine dining restaurant process. The Proprietors made his night super special. They took great care of us with send outs and special treatment. We could not have been happier and my son still talks about our meal and the great job that they do there. First Class from the hostess stand all of the way through the deserts! Thank you for taking such great care of us.

Brandy T.

Yelp
Love Proprietors! The atmosphere, decor, staff and food are top notch! It's one of our favorite restaurants on island. From the moment we walked in we felt special, the manager Anna greeted us with a warm welcome, she remembers us each year! There isn't a bad seat in the place and our server Emelia was lovely & knowledgeable! We almost made our full meal of small plates, the flavors are so unusual and delightful. The ever changing hummus with house made naan is our favorite! Duck with mini pretzel rolls, beef tartar was so good we ordered a second one. The cavatelli prep this time was almost better than last one, a limey, sunflower seed crust was creamy and crunchy at the same time, probably my favored shared dish. I had the half chicken and it was cooked to perfection, so often over cooked in restaurants this was not the case here! One of the reasons we continue to frequent this place it's because of Anna, she is so professional and lovely, can't wait to dine with her at Black Eyed Susan's too! Highly recommend, sitting at the bar for a couple small plates and a drink is fun too! Don't miss the opportunity to try out this gem on the island!

Denise L.

Yelp
PLEASE READ THIS and also read all of the other 1 star reviews... there are 9 other people (Antony, Brian, Adam, Roy, Alexander, Laura, Liem, Mike & Lauren) who specifically discuss how unbelievably rudely they were treated by the hostess / owner Anna. I have never, ever been treated with such utter disdain and disrespect by anyone at any restaurant EVER in my life. Not in NYC, not in LA, not in Paris. She spoke to me like I was an irritating child. And when I called the next day to complain, Anna picked up the phone and hung up on me because she "refused to engage on the topic." And when my husband called, she hung up on him, too! This business deserves to fail. It is an embarrassment to Nantucket. SPEND YOUR MONEY ELSEWHERE.

Antony M.

Yelp
Have been here many times with kids and without kids. Charged us $105 for 3 kids buttered noodles I asked the manager why are we charged for the same price as the adult entree she said the charge is for the pasta. What a disappointment as this was one our favorite restaurants. She actually told me to leave the restaurant after questioning the kid's pasta charge

Lydia B.

Yelp
I was excited to try this fantastic Gastro bistro the other night. Our food was so delicious and innovative. I loved their eclectic menu and we were able to share some truly unique takes on old standards. We shared the fried broccoli that was memorable. I highly recommend this dish to share and would order it today if I could. We also loved the sesame noodles and our vegan friend enjoyed the sprouts that were altered for her tastes. I really loved the duck confit cannelloni. The cannelloni was like a delicate crêpe that wrapped around a delicious assortment of sauce and duck. This was comfort food in a delicate way. My friend had the absolutely divine short ribs topped with a perfect sunny side up egg. I had a tiny bite and was super impressed. My other friend had a truly delicious chicken fried fish topped with beautiful fresh micro greens and a zippy green goddess dressing the tied it all together. I would also recommend it. We loved the drink menu and each tried some fun off-the-wall concoctions that were delicious. Again our vegan friend was offered a chefs choice entrée that she said was perfect in every way. I love the atmosphere and we were given a choice of outside or inside. I wish I could've bumped the lights up one tiny tick up so I could have taken better photos of this beautiful food. This restaurant should be award-winning I'm not sure if it is or not but in my book it wins my award for 5 stars!

Alex P.

Yelp
Amazing food and great service! We got 6 different plates and loved every single one. I will admit I was skeptical with some of these reviews but it seems a lot of people just got charged for no shows. I guess only make a reservation if you know you're going for sure. These guys are open late in the season which is really nice too. I'll be going again this weekend and I'm very excited!

Adam L.

Yelp
We had a 5:30 reservation for dinner here which I made weeks in advance as it's tough to get in. They ask for a credit card to hold the reservation. I know it's peak season on Nantucket so I understand they don't want people to 'no show'. This being the case I was ok with leaving my AMEX for them. At 3:45 I called to ask if I would be able to cancel the reservation as we had an unfortunate situation and we had to return early on the ferry. The person who answered the phone was incredibly rude and obnoxious. She told me about the cancelation request that we could 'do whatever we wanted' but that she would be charging my card $150. That's $50 for each person. I said that seems unreasonable and could I talk to a manager. She said she was the manager and that she was not going to 'fight' about it with me. I tried to be nice and even asked if maybe we could split the $150. Again I understand they have a short season to make money. She told me absolutely not she was canceling my reservation and charging my card and then she hung up. So I called AMEX and asked and sure enough she had already charged my card the $150. I have a platinum business card so I'm covered for these type of things but that is not really the point. It's a money grab. I have a business and I would never charge someone for a service or good that they did not receive. It's also completely disingenuous to act as if this somehow impacts a restaurant that is completely booked every Saturday night for the whole season. They should have been thrilled I cancelled so they could accommodate other dinners who could not get in. I guess they figured they could still do that and take $150 from me. Don't give them your business or your credit card.

Alina J.

Yelp
Just overpriced, food has 0 taste, plates are small. For 2 people adult and child I spent $170, and half of it went to trash

Laura B.

Yelp
Would be zero. Haven't been here yet but canceled first thing in the am w plenty of time and they were fully committed for the night - yet charged me a fee and reported me to open table that I didn't show up. My reservation was like 6 hours later? The person I spoke to about this was incredibly rude and then hung up on me and told me to dispute the charges to my credit card company. Have no idea whether the food is good or not but that kind of verbal abuse and service wouldn't make the best meal worth it. So many great places on the island - skip this one!

D C.

Yelp
We dine out a lot, including internationally, and want to enjoy our experiences. I didn't have a problem with the $50 no-show, since we intended to show up and did, but that was only the first suboptimal aspect of our experience. When we ordered, I asked the waitress for the dessert menu (since I love dessert and consider that when ordering dinner); she explicitly declined to provide. I let it go. The food was excellent if over-complex, which some people like. When we ordered dessert, the waitress informed us that the chef would decline to make our choice if they had to hold the peanuts and peanut sauce. Amazingly, no coffee was offered with dessert. Seriously. I guess we're used to a more appreciative and accommodating style of service.

Roy S.

Yelp
Our one year old baby developed high fever and we called ahead to cancel. The restaurant slapped us with 200$ cancellation fee. We tried to explain this happens to the best of us, they literally hung up the phone and charged our card. We are in Nantucket every summer, but we will never set foot there again and nor will our friends. Apparently, making a reservation in Proprietors is like playing Russian roulette with your credit card. Orla, Michael - this simply isn't you, but this is your staff.

Solomon G.

Yelp
I was really looking forward to eating here. I very much wanted to enjoy this restaurant. We arrived for dinner and we loved the decor and intimate and cozy atmosphere. We also found the service to pleasant and professional. Unfortunately, the food was pretty terrible: the lamb belly was a minuscule serving, the cavatelli undercooked and hard, the chicken was too dry and the pork collar was bland. This food stood out as being particularly bad and for the price point, this was even more disappointing.

Xana H.

Yelp
Food and ambience was incredible. Service was great. We were a group of 6 and shared a bunch of small plates and left satisfied. Can't go wrong with any choice on the menu.

Courtney C.

Yelp
Proprietors is easily my favorite restaurant on Nantucket and may be my favorite restaurant of all time. My mom and I first visited in 2015 and I was shocked to find I hadn't written a review yet! My family and I went most recently for brunch during stroll weekend and, as per usual, everything was to die for. We started with the griddled bagel complimented by dill pickle cream cheese- it was absolutely perfect. crispy outside, buttery soft inside plus the cream cheese was delicious. My mom and I then split the one-hander and then croque madam and, although you couldn't go wrong with either, I thought the one-hander was better! Of note, however, was the side salad served with the croque madam which was super simple yet SO delicious- the dressing was divine and my mom and I spent a few minutes trying to figure out what made it so special. Also, any time we are here we make sure to get the pig ear fries which are one of our favorite dishes. Service is always spot-on- everyone we have encountered here has been friendly, helpful and attentive. Their bartenders also serve up some banging drinks! long story short: We are sure to make a visit to Proprietors a priority on every Nantucket trip!

Megan S.

Yelp
A lovely evening/ delicious food in a gorgeous atmosphere. The flavors of the small plates were so memorable. This is our second year coming- will definitely be back!

Alexandra A.

Yelp
Listen to the people when they say this place is rude. It's probably why it was easier to get a reservation here than almost anywhere else. To management: hire humans with empathy or invest in some social skills training. To prospective patrons: There are plenty other places on the island with good food and courteous staff. Skip and don't look back.

Jessica J.

Yelp
Avoid. We were excited to go to this restaurant given the reviews. We left feeling that we had been rushed through our meal and disappointed with the food. Right after ordering, 2 of the 4 dishes immediately came out (while we were still enjoying our cocktail). We asked the waitress to pace our next dishes and she said she had put in 2 orders. We had not even finished our first two dishes and the next two came out. All in all we sat down, paid, and left within an hour. Now for the food. The fried green tomatoes and sweet potatoes were good. The calamari was overcooked and chewy. The scallop were barely warm by the time they came to us. We liked the decor and the atmosphere. The waitress was also nice but overall, we had a very disappointing experience. We would not return

Ms O.

Yelp
The restaurant is beautiful inside and the few outside tables feel very private and cozy. I wish the food matched the rest of the experience, but what a miss! Super disappointed with the flavors. Items like the sourdough sweet onion pancakes sound creative, but just fall flat. The salt and pepper shrimp were deep fried and had really no taste, except for the oily aftertaste of being fried. We tried a few other things that also aren't worth mentioning. I would definitely come back, but only for the bar. We really enjoyed the craft cocktail menu and the atmosphere, but I don't recommend anything on the small plates or entree portion of the menu. The service was good as well, just wish the food had been in line with other restaurants at this price point (or even lower price points) on the rest of the island.

Lauren H.

Yelp
Honestly we were not going to come eat here we had made dinner reservations at two other restaurants code by but it was freezing out and all e could get was the patio at both so defeated and starving we stumbled on the proprietors bar and table... what a find!!! First of all the staff was awesome! Everyone from the hostess to the Busser, but our waiter Victor was really just the best!!!! He was knowledgeable about the menu and proceeded our needs before we even knew we needed anything! That is a true talent! We reordered a few of the shared plates ALLLLL of which were incredible We had The beet and burrata salad with strawberries and pickled onions ummm DELISH!! The shashito peppers a MUST TRY! And the duck confit pancakes yes duck confit paired with like a caramelized pear and Sunday breakfast style pancake For a bigger plate we ordered the chicken dish which was juicy AF with this amazing lemon tasting juicy chicken.... We were totally blown away! Great ACK dinner experience We can't wait to come back!!!!

Yelp
If you have hungry men in your party I would say this is not the place for you. If it's girls night out for light tapas then I would recommend visiting this restaurant. We had three men who had sailed the Figawi Regatta and wanted something delicious and filling. Looking at Yelp I thought the reviews and photos warranted a try. I think the disappointment was in the entree portions. A $30 plate should have a better serving then the $19 tapas dishes but they weren't. All three men left the table very hungry. I will give the fried broccoli a great shout out but when 5 people leave the table after paying $250 you should feel satisfied.

Yelp
I came for a cocktail that is no longer on the menu, a combination of kale & vodka. I was ready to pounce on that cocktail but was disappointed to learn it's no longer available. My disappointment was turned into complete satisfaction with the choices on the revised menu. If you can't choose, have Megan shake you a surprise. This is a beautiful restaurant, so maybe I'll try dinner next time.

Yelp
Highly creative small plates. Smoked beets were especially memorable. Attentive service. Romantic atmosphere with a quiet enough room to allow for conversation.

Yelp
Expensive, but delicious food and a great, upscale atmosphere. I love the peanut broccoli so much - I dream about it often. The servers are fantastic and it's a great experience overall.

Yelp
The food was lovely, service was fine, but the night took a sour turn from the moment we got there when we were greeted by a very rude and curt older female hostess. Not only did she scoff at our polite question to the people near the podium if they had checked in, but then pushed us out of the way and told us rudely to sit across the street to wait. Despite this, we decided to try the restaurant again, but due to circumstances had to cancel at 1pm the day of the reservation. She was the phone operator for the restaurant and told me she would be charging my card $100 because I didn't call earlier. It's a shame such a good establishment is run by people who don't know courtesy and kindene

Yelp
We arrived slightly early for our reservation and they made my husband and 4 kids and I wait outside in the freezing cold when there was plenty of room to stand inside. 10 min later they seated us and within 2 min of being seated we're trying to take our order. They hovered over top of us as we took each bite and immediately removed plates when we had barely put our fork down. It was decent food but completely over priced. They served my kids the tiniest bowl of buttered noodles and charged us almost $40 per bowl. We left hungry and they rushed us so much we were out within 30 min. This was a dinner we had planned a month in advance and were looking forward to the ambiance and experience for my daughters birthday and it couldn't have been more of a disappointment. We will not be dining here again.

Yelp
Despite the challenges of COVID dining, Proprietors does a very nice job of presenting an eclectic selection of creative and well prepared dishes in town. Outdoor seating, in the alleyways and backyard of the restaurant, provide a charming dining experience. Aside from the very anti-social and cold hostess who "greeted" us and led us to a rickety table perched precariously in the middle of the sidewalk (We refused that table and requested a more sheltered one from passersby), our lovely waitress Amelia made our evening very pleasant and memorable. As for the food itself, we enjoyed the chicken fried trout very much, the Halloumi with Peaches, the fried broccoli, and the carrot hummus was delicious. The sesame noodles, the sweet potatoes and short rib were "ok" (despite being touted as crowd favorites). My Old Fashioned was delicious. Definitely worth a visit. Just make your selections wisely!

Yelp
Our server was attentive and super helpful and our food was absolutely delicious! Our favorite meal of the night was was Duck Confit and Caramelized Onion Cannoli... it is to die for!

Yelp
Batender was so rude. We are completely shocked about entire experience. And my friend and I come from a service industry background. Don't ask questions about cocktails or wine- you will be met with eye rolls and rude comments. Both our cocktails were so disgusting... non palatable. Our waitress had no interest in waiting on us... bone marrow made us feel like we should have our dogs present... not too be ironic, but wish someone would have thrown us a bone besides the one they plated as food.... And the pasta special was so undercooked it wouldn't have stuck to any wall... chewy and the taste we had to wash down with cava after giving up on cocktails. No one asked if we wanted anything else - dessert for my friends birthday?! Nope... Best thing was the unlit moody interior to match the way we felt walking out of there... breath of fresh Nantucket air is more palatable... Don't fall for the hype... Sister Ship and Lemon Squeeze were friendly experiences.

Yelp
Delicious food! We were a party of 6- 4 adults and 2-teens. Half of our party was vegetarian. Everyone enjoyed all the dishes. It's a little expensive but very worth the money. The ambience is nice and the staff is great. Don't miss out on this eclectic experience.

Yelp
Went there for a nice dinner on the first night in Nantucket. Very nice ambiance and the setting in one of the front rooms was just another part of a great experience. The wine list gets pricey but I was able to find a nice bottle at a decent price for dinner. Service was solid... We ordered several dishes to share. The impressive thing about this place is that each dish has both a number of ingredients and a high level of complexity. Very nice indeed. The pancake was beautifully savory. Topped with complex morsels. The fried Broccoli had a bite to it and the other ingredients left a savory and Acidity laced taste that worked really well. The fried shrimp and bursts were also shared and were delightful. I recommend this place!

Yelp
Definitely took the crown for best dinner in Nantucket. There's a bar up front and a sit down dining area to the right and extending into the back. A bit of a rustic feel with intentionally mismatched china plates and a mason jar full of utensils at each table. I love that they left a flask of water as I hate waiting to be topped off. Service was excellent and friendly. We didn't have to ask for most things as many needs were anticipated. We sample some small plates and then dove into the entrees. They are famous for the Fried Broccoli, and for good reason! We were all surprised at how juicy the broccoli was inside the crisp coating doused with some type of spicy sauce with an Asian twist. Popular among the kids and adults alike. Then we had a very interesting take on Canneloni which was just a cylinder of pasta surrounding very tender and flavorful short rib, in abundance. We all agreed it was a novel take on Italian and barbecue. There was also a house-made pasta special that reminded us of the Crab Dungeness at Bluestem in KC. They go it just right with the chili flakes and seasoning, but the pasta itself was just a bit too firm and chewy. Even our 7-year old pointed it out. The scallops were fresh, delicately seasoned, and artfully presented. For dessert, we opted for the carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, candied carrot shavings, and ginger ice cream. It was hands down the best carrot cake we've ever had. In fact, my wife, who generally avoids carrot cake, had to admit it was amazing. At Proprietors, it seemed to be all about the attention to detail and a subtle balance of interesting flavors with every dish. Like everything in the Cape, and especially on the Islands, the food was pricey, but definitely worth it.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this restaurant, but it was an expensive lesson to learn that I sadly did not like it. The food, for the price, was disappointing. The ambiance was meh... we were in the front room with human/animal creatures on the wall, staring at us. We had a glass of wine each, appetizer and an entree each, which was more of a tapas offering, and spent over $200 with tip -- there were only 2 of us. I took my undercooked scallops home with me and threw them in the trash as we were walking back to our house.
