"Neighborhood sports bar The Prospect is returning this weekend just in time for the kickoff to the beer-fueled college football season. Parent company Social Restaurant Group first unveiled the Prospect in late 2015, redecorating the former Ulah Bistro space (1214 U Street NW) with bowling pins, baseball bats, and skateboards. It closed this spring but functioned as a rotating venue all summer, hosting a World Cup HQ pop-up with a burger menu from Lucky Buns, as well as Pennsylvania’s fried chicken purveyor FreeByrd Chicken. On Saturday, September 1, the cider-friendly sports bar — known for its assorted hot wings, tacos, and s’mores empanadas — will return at 11:30 a.m. with drink specials and games aired across its 40 HD TVs and 30-seat outdoor patio. No. 1-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide is playing the Louisville Cardinals in an NCAA college opener at 8 p.m. The two-story sports bar will then officially reopen on Thursday, September 6 and operate from Thursdays to Mondays going forward. The Prospect’s projected hours of operation are 11:30 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays and Thursdays and Mondays starting at 5 p.m., and closing when the last game of the day ends. The Prospect will likely go dark again after football season to complete renovations on a to-be-named new restaurant, the company tells Eater. The replacement eatery will likely feature nightly dinner service and weekend brunch. “Depending on the renovation timeline of the upcoming permanent concept, they might also remain open for March Madness,” according to a statement from SRG (Bar Bao, Pamplona, Provision No. 14)." - Tierney Plumb

"Pennsylvania’s fried chicken purveyor FreeByrd Chicken is feeding D.C. for the first time this summer by setting up shop at the recently shuttered Prospect sports bar. The rotating venue (1214 U Street NW), which just housed a World Cup HQ pop-up with a burger menu from Lucky Buns, is now going the poultry route and serving FreeByrd’s signature buttermilk-brined fried chicken with homemade pickles and barbecue sauce made on-site." - Tierney Plumb

Very good little place to eat. First time there and the food was great tasting. Had a crab cake sandwich and it had a very good but unique taste to it that I haven't tasted before. Typical pub style with TVs lining the wall but don't let that stop you coming here if your looking for a good place to eat. Also it's one of the very few places that open early on this strip

Meet some friends after work on a Friday. Pretty nice bar. Had $5 drink specials all night. Never got packed so service was good. They serve typical bar food wings, sandwiches and The truffle fries were really good. Large amount to share. They have an upstairs also I imagine its, pretty busy in the weekends. We left before 11. I'd definitely visit again to have drinks and watch a game!

Excellent atmosphere with high class bar food. Think braised goat nachos with creme fraische and honey sesame BBQ wings.

Mike was a great bartender! Great vibes. I had the curly fries and fish tacos. Both were delicious!!

The server and bartender we had was excellent. The atmosphere is good, and if you early it is quiet enough to sit and chat, but as it gets later the noise naturally rises. Average drink prices, good selection, and decent bar food. My wife was, however, extremely disappointed with the Jamaican jerk chicken sandwich. There was no actual jerk sauce on it, just a burnt chicken breast and a slightly spicy mustard. She is Jamaican and cooks with jerk often, so it stood out to us as not even attempting to be authentic despite being labeled explicitly as Jamaican jerk.

It was a happy hour fundraiser that led us to The Prospect. Otherwise, we'd never venture in otherwise. It's near the U Street Metro on the main street and just didn't seem like the best option. However, we were very pleased with our experience. They have plenty of seating and several bars with hard cider on tap. They have chicken tacos that were AMAZING! We'll be back!

My group of friends and I had an awesome experience at The Prospect. We went the route of ordering a ton of food and sharing so I got a chance to taste a lot of the menu and every single thing was delicious. A couple of must orders are the Hog wings, braised goat nachos, brussels sprouts and the grilled cheese. Drinks, atmosphere and service were just as outstanding. Will no doubt be back!

Enjoyed everything about this place! Atmoshpere is awesome and allows you have a good time without even trying. All the food is exceptional, the Braised Goat Nachos are fantastic and the Hog Wings are ridiculously good! I will make this a frequent stop for myself and friends visiting DC. Well done Prospect.
