Chef Karl Holl Reinterprets High Desert Cuisine at Brasada Ranch’s Wild Rye | Eater Portland

"Originally the resort’s flagship, Range Restaurant and Bar was the venue Holl chose to rethink carefully rather than rush into change; that measured approach ultimately led to the restaurant’s transformation into the new concept Wild Rye." - Janey Wong

This place was a total surprise — what a great restaurant! The pickles (8.5/10), with anchovies, were amazing. The free bread (9/10), especially the jalapeño cornbread, was incredible. We ordered the fish and the chicken breast for our main dishes - both were delicious. The plates looked beautiful, the portions were generous, and the flavors were spot on. The chicken breast was especially juicy - I still wonder how they cooked it so well

So, so good! I’d never had elk before and as promised by the server, they were so tender! Elk will never replace a rib eye for me, but it was super delicious. Speaking of rib eye, their rib eye was probably my favorite rib eye that I’ve ever had! All of their dessert that we had was a 10! I have zero complaints. Such a cute outdoor area, quaint, lovely staff that are so attentive. I can’t wait to go back!

Can't go wrong here... Delicious foods, great service, just bring cash! Seriously, no cards accepted, but they will take a check! How quaint. That means you have to find your checkbook. Don't forget to call for a reservation. Lovely classic country music to accompany your meal. Try one of the chef's specials, again, can't go wrong. Had some nice homemade ice cream in a homemade waffle dish... delicious! If I'm in the area, I'll come for dinner as they aren't open for lunch. Beer and wine. Go and enjoy!

After many years of talking about it, we finally went to The Range. We're sorry we didn't go sooner. Good size portions, and well prepared. The presentation was great. The service was excellent and staff are very attentive. We dined outside so the 'atmosphere' was ok. Nice, but nothing really special. Given the time of year we did have a lot of flys 'join us'. They decided to visit other tables when our plates were cleared. There was 7 of us, and I called ahead. I got 2 calls checking back with me to make sure we were accomodated. They were happy to make sure we could either be inside or out. Prices range based on the uniqueness of the plate. Some plates are expensive while others are more reasonable. Choose wisely. 😄 All in all, it was a great experience. It won't be years before we return.

Cash-only hidden gem located outside of SLO didn't disappoint. French onion soup was an outstanding starter, and the entrees (Lamb chops and smoked brisket) were top notch.

Underrated restaurant in the heart of Santa Margarita. We wish there was an option to give this restaurant 10 stars!! Absolutely loved the food, the ambience, the host and the decor. Jim and Christine from Rinconada Dairy Farm Stay recommended this place to us as we were staying with them. From starters to main course to the dessert.. everything top quality 👍 We will come back again. Thank you

One of the best meals of my whole life. The whole menu was carefully crafted and well thought out. Service was amazing and the food was plated delicately to please the eye without sacrificing portions or flavor. Our server even gave us a couple bags of their coffee to take home because we enjoyed it so much. I highly recommend this family owned restaurant with a nice relaxed, quaint, and cute atmosphere great service and amazing food. I will be coming here anytime I'm near the SLO area.

Best tomato bisque I’ve had! I got the tomato bisque and it came jive and hot with homemade croutons on top. This was the special of the night and it was reasonably priced. The rest of my family got the 14 ounce coffee crusted rib eye, elk steak and a salad I tried some of every ones it it was all amazing it meat dishes were pretty pricey but it was worth it. We also got the clams as our starter and those were so good! The juice/sauce they were in was soo good. We ordered dessert and that was even better I got the meyer lemon cake and it was so good it came with a slice of the cake and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. WOULD RECOMMEND GOING HERE!
