The Rebello Hotel & Spa, Porto, Portugal - Explore & Book

"Porto's the kind of place that doesn’t try too hard – and doesn’t have to. It has a raw, authentic feel that makes everyone fall in love. Clinging to the riverbanks, a colourful hodgepodge of faded mansions, rugged granite buildings, and burnt-orange terracotta rooftops, this romantic port city is full of depth and drama. It’s famous for port wine but the views are pretty intoxicating – and The Rebello Hotel & Spa may have the best of them. From the Bello rooftop bar, you can enjoy a rare, panoramic view of both sides of the city – Porto and Gaia including the iconic Dom Luís Bridge – with cocktails and petiscos (small plates) by a Michelin-trained Chef. Downstairs in the signature Pot&Pan restaurant, diners overlook the Douro River, although the interior design puts up a good fight for your attention. Every inch of this beautifully restored former 19th-century factory is creative but not showy, historic without being frozen in time, and refreshingly unpretentious – a lot like Porto itself. The hotel offers 103 suites, three restaurants, and a Roman-inspired spa. It's luxury with soul. Easy and relaxing, with late breakfasts, early checkouts, unstuffy customer service, and homemade pastel de natas hand-delivered to your door. (Yes, please.) Highs That view: The Rebello directly faces Dom Luís Bridge, with Porto and Gaia on either side, and 360º panoramas from the rooftop bar The design: housed in an old factory, the interiors mix industrial edge with contemporary comfort and original art. We loved it. The top-notch food in both Pot&Pan and Bello The fully equipped, apartment-style suites are ideal for longer stays Set in a peaceful and less touristy location on the Gaia side of the river, just a stroll (or scenic bridge walk) from the historic centre Lows An upmarket hotel like this commands high prices: we thought it worth it considering the interiors, restaurants and spa facilities No outdoor pool, which might disappoint sunseekers during hotter months Some suites face the street or courtyard, so if you want uninterrupted river views, it’s worth upgrading The spa includes a small indoor pool that’s perfectly sized (and heated) for a relaxing dip, but it's not big enough to swim laps" - Leona Ford

To be clear from the start, I travel a lot and stay loyal to the Small Luxury Hotels (SLH) of the World brand. Beautiful location and roof top views of Porto, but only if you’re traveling with children. The roof top restaurant will only give you a table that looks directly at the river if you’re in a group of four, couples beware, side view for you. The service was below my expectations for a SLH of the World hotel. It wasn’t just me, I ran into three different guests arguing with staff upon departure. Things that are expected from a hotel that charges 575 euro a night, such as access to ice and the pool, from having your luggage brought up to you and brought downstairs, receiving the balcony you already paid for when you booked, all required extra hassle, negotiating and reservations “upon availability” — and “upon availability” is completely arbitrary and no one at the front desk listens to you. The staff is young, has no experience in customer service at the level of a usual SLH of World hotel and rude. If you must stay here book via Booking.com (at least you’ll get a better price) and not directly with them since the promises made if you book directly are all “upon availability” and you’ll be disappointed. Rooms were clean and modern. Staff throughout the hotel except the spa, completely uninterested in your guest experience and make zero effort. Literally, the hotel ran out of olives at the bar — in Portugal. If you have the money, are over 40 and are looking for luxury, skip altogether and stay at The Yeatman next door for the same price. You’ll be grateful.

Wonderfully designed hotel within amazing views of the river on both sides of Porto . Great roof top terrace with knock out views, great drinks. We had fabulous 2 bed apartment , fabulously appointed. Breakfast great. Pot and pan restaurant had great food- could do with lower lighting for the evening. Location great for port houses, WOW, and along the river boardwalk so perfect for morning run out to fishing village or into Porto . About 20 min walk into centre of Porto on other side of river. My only minor criticism is that would be nice if the room windows were as clean as the rest of the room so we can see the view from the wonderful window seats !

We stayed at Rebello as a group of four, including two children, and overall had a wonderful experience. The team was incredibly helpful and responsive, promptly answering our inquiries and assisting with restaurant reservations. The rooms were impeccable—stylish, clean, and thoughtfully designed.||There were only two issues we hope the hotel can improve. First, the kids’ pool hours are very limited: only from 7–10 AM and again from 2–5 PM, and reservations must be made in advance. Understandably, on holiday, it’s hard to make the early morning slot as we tend to sleep in. We were only informed about the booking requirement upon check-in, even though it was mentioned in a prior email that we unfortunately missed.||Second, while the rooftop is undeniably stunning with breathtaking views, the food was disappointing. We ordered the mussels, which were truly inedible, and a tomato salad that felt uninspired. To their credit, the staff graciously removed the mussels from our bill, which we really appreciated. However, given that Rebello is part of the SLH collection, we expected a higher culinary standard. The rooftop menu is quite limited, and with such an incredible setting, we would have loved to dine there more often. We returned for drinks on another evening, but didn’t feel confident enough in the food to stay for dinner.||In summary, it’s a beautifully run property with excellent service and style—just a few tweaks needed to make it exceptional.

I always try to leave balanced fair reviews on hotels because that’s what I look for before I book, so I try to highlight the good and the bad.||Our 2 night stay at the Rebello had no bad. It was hands down one of the best hotels I have stayed in for a very long time. Everything was perfect. Room was a standard room but it was large and well laid out, it had an amazing view from the balcony across the river and the mini bar with a couple of complimentary bottles (and some milk) was a great touch. Rooftop bar was great with excellent and reasonably priced cocktails. Breakfast is a little cramped (they ask you to book a slot) but the choice of food and preparation was really good. The staff, from the front desk, to the bar, to breakfast to the cleaners were outstanding. The location of the hotel in Gaia - a short walk from everything was perfect.||It was an exceptional stay. Until now, my favourite hotel in the world was the Intercontinental Singapore on Middle Road, but this ran it very close. Highly recommended.

We visited the rooftop recently and while the atmosphere, food, and drinks were absolutely amazing, the service left a lot to be desired. Despite having a reservation, the hostess made us wait, which was disappointing. Once seated, the service continued to be slow — we often had to chase down waiters just to place our orders or get updates. It’s a shame because the location and quality of food and cocktails are top-notch. Hopefully, the service improves to match the overall vibe of the place.

There was no aspect of our 5-day stay here that was less than 5 stars. The staff were professional, pleasant and helpful. Our room was spacious, tastefully decorated and immaculately clean. The spa/pool was relaxing and the breakfasts were of the highest quality (especially the amazing fruit selection). Though one might be tempted to stay on the other side of the river, this location in Gaia is so much more appealing - more peaceful with great restaurants, the fabulous WoW center and breathtaking views.

The room was nice but had to wait until 3:30 to get our room even though they knew we got here at 2pm. The WiFi didn’t work but they fixed quite quickly. The room had tiny windows with no view or outside space and felt like a dungeon. The room was also at the very end of the hotel and was a very long walk to get anywhere. There was only an indoor pool which was very small and you had to book it which was quite annoying. I blame myself for not doing enough research but I would never stay at a place again. Another annoying thing was trying to organise an airport transfer was very hard work. They kept sending me the same message. Breakfast was good and had a nice meal at the rooftop restaurant. The staff seemed nice and it is a nice hotel but whole experience ruined by the room.

Outstanding service and the GREAT location.... What an incredible surprise. We were hesitant to book this hotel because of the location, but this is truly the perfect location. Close to restaurants and wine tastings, this hotel location was perfect. Just across the bridge, this is the somewhat quieter part of Porto. We loved it. There was so much to do and even more on the other side of the bridge. We stayed for 4 nights but wished we could have stayed longer. The hotel staff surprised us with turn down service and occasional unexpected treats in the room. The breakfast was absolutely delicious - so many choices, both hot and cold. The room was spacious and we had a river view. We will definitely stay here again when we come back to Gaia (Porto)
