On the Grid : Red Hook Winery

"With Steve's Authentic Key Lime Pie right next door, Red Hook Winery makes up one half of what I think is to be the most charming part of New York City. Where else do you get to eat a chocolate covered key lime pie on a stick and walk next door for a wine tasting, all while gawking at Lady Liberty? Red Hook Winery is worth the trek, offering an impressive variety and amazing waterfront views." - Michael Ciancio

This was my first ever official wine tasting and Emily not only made me and my guest feel so welcomed but also excited to be experiencing something like this as first timers! We ended up leaving with two bottles, one being the ‘Salt Crush’ which was one of the bottles on June’s tasting menu and it was absolutely delicious. The wines offered are diverse and really allow you to get a feel for all the effort that goes into the wines that come from Red Hook Winery! Not to mention it’s right on the water and such a beautiful venue, just avoid the outdoor patio on a hot sunny day 😂

Google
GORGEOUS during sunset time. Make sure to book in advance as I think walk-ins are limited and it gets busy. The staff are very sweet, although service was a bit slow (as I said, it gets busy!). Keep in mind there are no outdoor heaters, so bundle up if on an outside table (worth the view imo). There are snack options, but not many. My friend and I took the IKEA ferry over from Manhattan (free on weekends), explored IKEA for a bit, walked to the winery, spent a few hours there, then walked to the Red Hook Tavern for a proper dinner. Each place was maximum 15min walk apart. Beautiful way to spend our Sunday!

Google
Checked out this winery last month on our trip to NYC. Had a flight of wine. We enjoyed the Geante orange wine, 333 and the cabernet franc. All delicious! Hostess very nice and informative on the wines we were tasting. We walked outdoors for a short while enjoying the views of the river. We went on a Monday when it wasn’t very busy. Definitely check out this spot and enjoy the views of the river and Statue of Liberty nearby.

Google
We visited on a Monday for my moms birthday and had a great time! We had the opportunity to sit both inside and outside, the view isn’t anything special but the water looked beautiful and there was a much needed breeze. Extensive wine menu, great snack options, dog friendly, and our waitress, Mercedes, couldn’t have been any sweeter and accommodating. We brought some games, as well as borrowed their Scrabble, and had an all around great visit.

Google
The Red Hook Winery was okay. Don't be fooled by some of the pictures here on Google Maps of the outdoor seating—there are only a handful of tables available outside (which are reservation only), and the view is just okay. You're not getting a sprawling view of the water and the Statue of Liberty like some of the pictures make it seem. It was insanely crowded on a hot summer day, which made it almost impossible to get a seat anywhere, which led to a lot of people awkwardly standing around in the middle of the winery with nowhere else to stand. I'm no wine expert, but I generally enjoyed the couple of pours I had.

Michael Blackstone

Google
Great place for a wedding or a quiet drink with friends / partner. It has beautiful views but take your sunglasses it gets really sunny if you want outside. The views are really the big draw of this place as there is not much going on inside this place. However, the staff is super extra nice and helpful and will make your visit here a pleasant one. Personally I wouldn't go here on a Friday or Saturday. It's quiet and out of the way so luckily I was here on a Sunday and it was the perfect atmosphere for a quiet afternoon.

Google
The Red Hook Winery Barrel Room tour was fun, interactive, and informative. We learned about New York’s wine regions, the winemaking process, and Red Hook Winery’s distinctive approach to winemaking. Our tour guide Emily went above to make everyone feel welcome and heard. I highly recommend the tour and the winery to anyone interested in learning more about winemaking and looking to sample some exquisite New York wine.

Google
Took a weekend trip to Brooklyn with my girl and we stumbled upon this winery while looking for something casual to get into near the water. Unfortunately it was a rainy day but we made the best out of the journey. Huge warehouse filled with art studios. The winery is at the very end. Chill interior and very homie. Small apps, we enjoyed some olives and ordered wine flights. First time trying orange wine! Such a great rainy day place to visit. Overall relaxed atmosphere; we bought a bottle to go. Highly recommend

Yelp
So happy to have found this gem! They have a good variety of wines with solid prices. They have plenty of seats outside and inside. All the staff were super friendly and helpful. We decided to get the White Blend bottle to share and it was crispy and dry - perfect for a summer day. The winery is overlooking the river and the sun is covered by the building so it gives you a break on those hot days. Definitely coming back!

Yelp
This is a really, really relaxing spot on the water. Vibes are phenomenal, and the wine is very good and affordable. Way less busy/crowded than the cidery next door
google avatar

Yelp
Very cute! Grab your own seat and enjoy a glass or flight of wine. They have indoor and outdoor seating available. Wine was good! Not sure if they have any food available. Merch available, though. Service is friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
Such a great experience! If you are in Brooklyn skip the tourist traps and head this way. It is so relaxing and worth every step. The views are spectacular and the wine is perfect. Grab a flight and some snacks, sit back and relax!

Yelp
Gorgeous outdoor winery situated right on the water in Red Hook. We made a same day reservation for outdoor a la carte seats, which required a credit card and payment of $20 per person which gets credited toward your overall bill. Upon arriving we were swiftly seated for our reservation overlooking the water outside. We decided to try their orange wine flights, which were 4 wines for $18. All of the orange wines were tasty, but were also very similar in nature. Our waitress was accommodating and attentive, and took time to explain the wines on the list. All of the wines here are local to the NY area. One thing that was a little off putting at first was their line of wines saved during Hurricane Sandy. The way the waitress explained them made it sound like they were plucked from the water, and honestly they all had a little bit of a briney sea taste to them (but maybe it was just in my head). All in all, a solid activity to do on a beautiful day.

Yelp
Overall: I went here with my girlfriend in the late afternoon on a Sunday. We arrived around 7 pm (they close at 8), which worked out great because a lot of people were starting to filter out. There's a small area of wine barrels outside that surround a few tables and chairs. These are only available by reservation, but we were able to sit there since it was close to closing. It was a very nice area to sit during the sunset--I just wish they had more outdoor seating. We ordered one of the special edition bottles of orange wine they offered. The worker at the ordering counter helped steer me to it, and I wasn't disappointed. The bottle was one of the more reasonably priced options ($18/glass or $52/bottle) and was very refreshing on a warm evening. In the past, I've also tried some of their different flight options. They offer several assortments, each covering an interesting spectrum. This is a beautiful spot for a drink, and I'll definitely be back. Drinks: 5 Service: 4 Value: 2 Atmosphere: 4 Drinks: We had a really nice orange wine. It was one of their seasonal special editions, so this was one of the last times they had it. It was pretty tasty, and I would definitely try it again. The selection is always good, with a lot of options for people interested in trying something new. Service: Service at the counter is pretty hit-or-miss. The line seems to get long in spurts, so sometimes it takes a while to get something. Once you're at the front, though, they're very helpful--it can just take a little time. Value: The drinks here are pretty expensive. Bottles are a slightly better value but still not cheap. There are other places to get a better value, but this is still a fun and relaxing spot. Atmosphere: We were able to sit outside right on the water's edge. It's a very nice place to hang out. Unfortunately, the outdoor area is small, so you typically have to stay inside.

Yelp
Let me just start this review by saying that the staff was incredible, attentive, and super sweet! I love that this spot is located by the water, however, we were indoors, and indoors is missing the vibe, the background music was low, and besides the wine, the snack selection is very mid, so do not come hungry over here. Overall I had a good time, we tried a sampler and then went with 2 bottles of our fave, Great spot to come with friends and maybe on a crawl to check out other spots in Red Hook, we mistakenly went to the cidery first and that seemed more lively.

Yelp
The best thing here was the hummus. Stars are for the ambiance as it has views of the water. The staff was kind.

Yelp
Fantastic view! Well worth going for that alone. The wine wasn't my favorite, but I would go back on a nice day. I also enjoyed the hummus and chips.

Yelp
Had such high hopes for this spot, but in the end was underwhelmed. Came on a Saturday for the tasting. Was sat fairly quickly and the glasses were waiting at the table. However, it took a significant amount of time for anyone from the wait staff to realize we hadn't been served, which was a bummer. The same thing sort of happened when we were ready to move from the white to red section, with two separate people asking us if we were ready and saying they'd come introduce us to the second half of the tasting. The space itself is gorgeous. I will say we paid for a tasting table for extra money, but this was not super worth it. Would have easily had a better/the same tasting if we joined the communal tasting table. We were given a bottle of water as soon as we started without glasses, which is fine- I'm happy to remind them to give some glasses. However, it was fairly difficult to get refills of this bottle of water. I wouldn't harp on this if we weren't in the midst of a heat wave and we hadn't stopped in here when it was 90 degrees. The wine itself was good! But it took a long time to get here. The views are stellar, which is what this spot really relies on.

Yelp
Came here randomly because we were in the area. Glad we did!! The wines were delicious and service was excellent. They have a red, white, or mixed flight for 18. If you want the full tasting I believe it's 45 for 6. I will definitely come back and they are dog friendly.

Yelp
So so amazing - great service. Fantastic tasting flights. Meat and cheese board was better than I thought it could be. Simple but just right. And the views ... spectacular. Highly recommend.

Yelp
This winery is tucked away amongst huge factories. There is little signage and very difficult to find the winery The wine menu is simple with various different wine tastings. The wines themselves were refreshing and pleasant. It was odd that the waitress wanted a credit card upfront right when ordering. The wine flights were delivered with plastic table place mats to label the wine. There was very little explanation from the waitress as to the history of the winery or descriptions of the wine. More just placed them on the table and left. The winery itself was clean and the bathrooms were well kept. Local to the area is that dogs were permitted and at one point dogs were barking excessively echoing through the acoustics of the room. While I would not go out of my way to return, if I was local in the area I would stop in for a little while.

Yelp
A perfect day in Red Hook to me would involve a visit to Steve's Key Lime Pie, a chocolate and whiskey tasting at Cacao Prieto/Widow Jane, a meal at Somtum Der, and maybe a nitecap at Sunny's Bar. Now I'm happy to add Red Hook Winery to that list, and would take the Ikea Ferry from the city just to visit this winery on any warm day for one of their delicious wine flights and cheese boards. Red Hook is not close to any subway stations, making it kind of annoying to get to if you don't live in the area, but instead of looking for a day trip outside of the city, I'd say a visit to Red Hook is well worth the trek. Unlike a lot of things in the city, businesses are not overly crowded here, as is the case with Red Hook Winery. It's spacious and with the doors swung open on a warm day you have waterfront views and beautiful light streaming into the wood paneled space. Occasionally they'll have live music there too. The wine flights are a great deal, with 2oz pours per glass. I tried the Rose, Agnes, and a dry Riesling and enjoyed all of them. I don't have the most well versed palate when it comes to wine so my vocabulary to describe the wine starts and ends at "pretty good." If that's good enough for you, you'll likely enjoy a visit.
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
There are indoor and outdoor seats, but it got hot outside in the summer. The server was nice. We reserved a spot. You pay when you reserve and it becomes credit during the visit. We tried the white flight and the flight with white, rose, and red wine. The prices are higher than upstate, and I wasn't as into the flavors. There are two bathrooms so there can be a wait. They have merch.

Yelp
Came here for a wine tasting experience but it was not what I expected. We served 3 white wine and 3 red wine. The lady was holding 3 bottles each time I was so worried she flips all the bottles. She briefly explained the history of the wine in red hook, not the wine itself and she left us to "discuss and discover", then 20 min later she came agin to pour the rest of wine. I will say is more a red hook wine testing than the actual testing because I didn't learn anything. That lady tried her best and I highly respect that. I just wish this could be more structured during the experience. No offense.

Yelp
We did not do wine tasting , I tried white draft and my bf has tried red draft wine. $10 each. I like the taste .They mostly have dry wines. They have some snacks :cheese and meat plate, nuts, crisps. We did not try any. The view is amazing you can seat outside and enjoy your night . The service is very friendly We will be back

Yelp
I made a reservation for a wine tasting at Red Hook Winery for a Saturday afternoon. Not having visited before, I called the Red Hook Winery ahead of time to make sure they were dog friendly. I also asked if you were allowed to bring your own food as I did not notice a food menu. Outside food was not allowed; however, they did provide us with a BIIIG bag of rosemary crisps to enjoy with our wine tasting, which was delicious and more than sufficient for my friend and I. Our reservation was for 3pm but we were running late. Thankfully there was a huge parking lot on site, with many available spots. I quickly parked and we ran quickly into the next door brewery by accident and waited in line, making us even later. We were probably 30 minutes late, but the staff was really cool about it. Upon arriving, the staff member outside checked our vaccination cards and showed us to our table overlooking the waterfront. Meanwhile, another friendly staff member approached my puppy to give him some treats (with permission of course), which he loved. Despite the amazing views, it was really too hot to sit outside that afternoon, so we asked if we could be moved inside instead. The staff happily accommodated us and showed us to a table inside. Inside, we started our tasting. The wine tasting was $25/person (for a flight of 6 wines - 3 whites, 3 reds) and paid in advance online when I made the reservation. Pricewise it was more than I expected, but the pours were generous, and to be fair, my friend and I spent 3 hours there, and no one bothered us. We enjoyed everything -- from the delicious wines, beautiful waterfront views, nice and friendly staff, to the huge parking lot. We cannot wait to come back.

Yelp
OMG! I love this spot!!! Very nice workers and awesome wines to try. Great place to bring that special someone to, especially during the sunset Their hummus is to dye for
google avatar

Jillian B.

Yelp
All of their wine was delicious! You can pick your own or have them give you recommendations. We opted for a combination of both, but my favorite wine was the 2021 rose that they had suggested, which was fruity but not too sweet.
google avatar

Kimberley M.

Yelp
Visited Red Hook Winery on a Saturday afternoon with a friend for a tasting. From the start, we loved the lay back vibe of the winery. Our host was friendly, knowledgeable and a pleasure. Our tasting included 6 tastings and some rosemary crisps. Our host told us a bit about both and answered all of our questions. We spent a little over an hour and a half for our tasting and really enjoyed the experience. We did not feel rushed and the winery had a really nice vibe. Highly recommend for couples, friends, family, whoever! The indoor and outdoor setting are equally beautiful. I recommend for afternoons so you can see the amazing sunset. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
I came to the Red Hook Winery this past weekend as a friend of my wife said that he heard about this being right around the corner. I decided to join them despite not being a drinker so I will tell you more about the experience. Service: the staff there were super nice and gladly answered any questions during the pairing. Even answered some questions I had about the Billy Joel memorabilia. Aesthetic: really nice views overlooking the River while maintaining a comfortable, home-like feel. Definitely a great place to sit and enjoy a drink.

Yelp
It's the dog days of summer. One Saturday, my friend R and I walked around Red Hook marveling how things have changed over the years. We walked down and found Red Hook Winery, but they were all booked up for wine tastings that day. I made a mental note to come back. A few weeks later, we were able to reserve a time online. They are super respectful of the current COVID situation. The staff makes sure to wear masks, and only outdoor seating is available by reservation only. Every outdoor table faces the water, and even in 90 degree heat there was a sweet breeze coming toward us. The tables are spaced far apart from each other, so not only is it socially distant, but also romantic. :) Jeff was our guide, and he was fantastic. Some good jokes and pours and good pacing. I never felt rushed, and never felt pressured to drink a glass I decided I didn't like. The $25/person (plus tax and gratuity) tasting included 6 different local Long Island wines. I appreciated the attention to detail - the snacks were all vacuum-sealed new bags (trail mix and pita chips). We bought two bottles after the tasting. Chill vibes, and a good option to feel like you've escaped the city.
google avatar

Carol S.

Yelp
Very pleasant wine tasting in a quiet setting with great views and convenient parking. Enjoyed a flight of 6 wines and some charcuterie. Wines are lighter style typical of NY and available on tap or by the bottle.
google avatar

Tiffany L.

Yelp
This is a lovely summer spot if you're into wine tastings on the water! The $25 wine tasting is amazing -- we tried six different types of wine: 4 white wines, 1 red blend, and 1 Riesling. The wine list was really interesting in that it featured 2 Sauvignon Blancs and 2 Chardonnays but were made by two different winemakers & also aged differently (btw: you get 15% off bottles that you want to purchase). We also had the most delicious rosemary crackers from Baked in Brooklyn & a few salted dark chocolate squares from Raaka (another local business in Red Hook). The people working there were so nice, and we loved that Emily would come out to describe the wine, pour for us and then let us enjoy the wine by ourselves for ~5 minutes before coming back with the next one. We had a great view of the water and a tarp over us, which helped us stay cool and out of the harsh summer sun. They were also great at providing us carafes of cold water. Heads up: You can take off your mask when you're sitting outside, but have to wear a mask if you come indoors -- they also have clean, private bathrooms.
google avatar

Jule C.

Yelp
Aside from the beautiful view outside of this establishment we were really disappointed. Signed up for the wine tasting which was probably priced reasonably for the area. Wine was okay, not the best and certainly wouldn't be purchasing any to take home. The real issue was finding a disturbing bug in our water glass. We waited so long to see our server again that we ended up going to the front and closing our tab with a different server and not even mentioning the bug just so we could get out of there. Definitely disappointed. Giving the extra star for the views.

Yelp
Great vibes at this winery! We picked a tasting reservation. Delicious wines, very friendly service. Has indoor and outdoor seating, and right by the dock for a nice scenic view. You can bring your own treats to snack on. I highly recommend!

Yelp
What an amazing experience. The waitress who served us was amazing! We had a birthday cake for a friends bday and she provided plates and candles. The wine was good and she gave such a great thorough explanation of wine. It wasn't busy so it was perfect for our group. We enjoyed this experience and I would come back!

Aurora D.

Yelp
Erin should work on her attitude. We were told we could sit outside so we took a seat outside. We weren't there for longer than 2 minutes before Erin came out and told us we needed to move. She didn't bother to ask my friend and me if we had a reservation just assumed we didn't for the outdoor seating. I asked her if we could stand by the barrels and she told us we needed to move because we'd be in the way. There were better ways to approach the situation. She made us extremely uncomfortable so we left. My friend called the manager, Jennifer, and she said Erin is her best employee so she's sure it was a miscommunication. She wasn't when she interacted with us but thanks. Update: I posted this on TikTok not expecting it to blow up. A viewer called to ask Jennifer about the situation and she accused of us lying. I have nothing to gain by lying about Erin's deplorable behavior.

Clare M.

Yelp
The service here was amazing . Showed up for my reservation and was seated right away. The tasting was very informative with history of the area and types of wine. The views were amazing and the area is nice. Love that they have a parking lot so no trouble looking for parking. Will definitely be back!!!

Yelp
I am delighted with this establishment, firstly, it is a romantic place, beautiful view, secondly, there is an opportunity to sit both indoors and outdoors and look at the incredible view. We were also served by a very nice girl) Delicious wine lifted our spirits) I recommend this place!

Yelp
Enjoyed our experience at The Red Hook Winery on Saturday afternoon. The only problem is not getting to stick around for a few more glasses after the tasting is over. Quality: The Red Hook Winery has a wonderful Wine Tasting experience, one that we hoped wouldn't end. They had a pre-planned Tasting of six wines, with two additional thrown in. From the Wine Tasting list we tried a 2013 Chardonnay, a 2015 Reserve Chardonnay, a 2016 Sauvignon Blanc, a 2013 SK Whtie Blend "Vipolze", a 2015 Reserve Red Blend "Moraine", and a 2015 Reserve Red Blend "Moraine." We also ended up with an additional White and a Rose. My favorites were surprisingly the 2013 Chardonnay and the 2016 Sauvignon Blanc, which I felt surpassed the red wines that typically capture my interest. Along with the wine they provided some flatbread crisps, which were nice but I could have also used some cheese or dips even for an extra cost. I also wish there was the opportunity to just continue to relax at our table with an additional glass or two of wine. Quantity: The Wine Tasting came with six different wines, but we were also provided tastes of two additional wines. Value: $25 for a Wine Tasting. Ambiance: The Red Hook Winery sits at the bottom tip of Red Hook in Brooklyn, in a dock warehouse on the water. It can be a little confusing to find, as the warehouses are not clearly marked, but it is the most lively spot in the area. It was a rainy afternoon, so they had some tents set up over the outdoor tables, but I could imagine a lovely afternoon in the sun drinking wine on the dock. The inside area managed to capture that cellar feel despite being in a warehouse. High exposed ceilings, brick walls, and an open window kept it cool and just a little musty. They also have a giant Billy Joel banner that provides a good reminder that this winery is in NYC. Crowd: Reservations are required and you pay through the website. They have a constant rotation of tables every 90 minutes, and there was not a single empty chair during our visit. Service: Not sure if it is because of COVID or always the policy to only have tastings. I would have gladly stuck around for a few glasses of wine at the conclusion of our tasting, but we were told a new group was coming in. I hope this will change with expanded capacity, because it seems like a real lost opportunity. Parking: A large private parking lot near the dock buildings housing the winery.

Yelp
After chilling at the nearby park on a Saturday early evening, headed over to this winery to relax with some drinks. About 45 minutes till closing time, there were some empty spots outside and a table inside, though it looked like they were for tastings from earlier in the day. Walked in looking to get a table for two, but wasn't greeted by anyone up front. Turned out we were in the "to-go" line, and another group behind us went to get a table. Despite that, figured to get a couple of crowlers to enjoy outside. Decided on the Red Blend "Gaia" ($12 for a small), and the Merlot "Vineyard Select" ($12 for a small). Crowlers are filled to the brim, an aluminum can with a twist-off for resealing. Really liked the merlot - a strong full-bodied red, while the blend was more light and not as flavorful. Wanted to chill with the wine outside, but they were taking the tables in before closing time. Better to come here early to take advantage of the tastings, or find a spot at the pier/park instead.

Leslie E.

Yelp
Terrible service (some of the staff & managers were very racist towards me and my friends). We tried to get a table but kept waiting as other people that came after us were immediately attended too. The vibes just felt off. We decided not to order and get food and just left!

Yelp
GREAT DAY TO VISIT THIS WINERY!I came here this weekend to celebrate my birthday and it was so worth it . When I booked here I booked separately Because some people on my party wanted to go last min & when we got there they accommodated the additional people so we could all sit together. Our host was good and very knowledgeable. The wines were delicious. I perfer white wine so I enjoyed the selection and the red wines were ok for me. The Rose' was delicious. The view here is beautiful. I was so happy the rain stopped and the sun was out so that we could enjoy it. I did notice they had tents out so that was a nice touch. They also provided me with a bottle of wine for my birthday. I will definitely be going back and it's a must try. Also they provide these chips which are yummy!

Yelp
Wine in Brooklyn!! Looking for someplace fun and wanting to support my local winery, I found this made and made reservations for a party of 5. You have to pay for reservations beforehand and once you do that your spot/ time is secured. Emily was the best server! She educated us on the winery and all the different wines available. The cheeses really complimented all the wines really well. This is such a nice place to go with friends and in the summer they have tastings on the outdoors under tents. I purchased a bottle of wine and took my cheeses to go!!!

Yelp
Lovely place! Very friendly staff, good wine, great ambience! We were there on a cold and windy day so we sat inside, but they have outdoor seating, too! Wine tasting was really fun, and they have little charcuterie to snack on with your wine.

Yelp
I came to Red Hook Winery with NO EXPECTATIONS. Later I discovered, "The Red Hook Winery, was founded in 2008 by Mark Snyder. Our three winemakers- Robert Foley, Abe Schoener, and Christopher Nicolson-create unique expressions of these individual vineyard sites, producing wines that reflect the climate, geology, and viticulture that make New York unlike any other growing region in the world." Apparently, they are growing grapes all across New York and are showcasing them here at their tasting room in Red Hook. I know Robert Foley because I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. So it gave Red Hook a little more street cred in my book. The pours here are GENEROUS. The lady who was serving our wine was absolutely amazing. She was knowledgeable and gave me extra pours to help me find a just right gift to thank my friend who was letting me stay in her apartment. We chatted with a gentleman next to us for worked for the UN. He was buying his boss who was retiring and moving to Australia to open his own winery. If this wine is good enough for his Boss who works at the United Nations it's good enough for us! I enjoyed the wine here SO MUCH that I had trouble finding my way back to the ferry that took me back into the city.

Yelp
I was not familiar with the area so I did a little research for wineries in the area. I had some time to kill and thought it would be cool to visit an urban-environment winery. I was not disappointed!! I called to validate how they were operating in the Covid environment. They only had outside service and it was chilly, but I was prepared since I had researched. Jeff was my server/educator on their wines. He was an amazing host and taught me a lot about their facility, how they bring their grapes in, the wine makers and the history overall. I did the tasting and bought 2 bottles. I normally like white wines that are a bit sweeter, like a moscato, resiling, Pinot Grigio, etc. but their less-sweet options were delish on my palette. Thank you for a great experience!

Yelp
I wanted to love this place soooo much. A winery in BK, by the water, and great views. Well, for starters the hostess was great and friendly. I'm not a wine snob but more of a wine enthusiast. The wines are home grown in NY. I'm not sure where to start but they're not great. The whites almost have a vinegar taste or as if the grapes were rushed through the fermentation process. The Rosè was not even OK. It was bitter and I LOVE Rosè...but not this one. The reds, those were slightly better but not amazing. Now, let's get to the server. For starters, she started off as friendly and greeted the table. We had 1 person running late and the waitress was adamant about us not starting the tasting until our 5th person showed up. By the time we explained to the waitress for the THIRD time it was OK to start without this person, I was already annoyed. First, she brought out the white wines. She then proceeded to tell us that we MUST finish the wine in our glasses before we may proceed to the next set of wines. There was no bucket to pour out the wine that we did not enjoy. It was like "finish this before you get that..." There was also NO CHANGING of glasses. The waitress wanted us to use the same exact glasses from pinot grigio to merlot. As a side note, we could see other tables have their glasses refreshed and changed out. Apparently, we were not the only ones who didn't enjoy some or most of the wine, as we could see the pours left in the glasses. By the time our 5th guest arrived, we were wrapping up the first set of white wines. As we moved on to our next pour, the waitress is working with another table who just sat. She proceeded to pet their dog, rubs the dog's fur, belly, and head... the waitress walks back to grab some treats for the dog and gives it to the dog one by one in his mouth. Ok, not strange if you're a dog lover...right? No, not at all! But, this was the waitress in an establishment who did not once wash her hands or use sanitizer after playing with and feeding another customers dog, and then wanting to proceed and touch everyone's glasses at our table and pour wine for us. I'm allergic to dogs so the outcome was rather annoying. By the 3rd pour, obviously annoyed, we just poured our wine into our glasses and were ready to leave... the waitress was visably upset that we poured our wine and says "oh no this is not ok..." She then storms off and walks behind the bar. Talk about poor frustration tolerance, lack of ability to do your job efficiently, and poor hand hygiene... I have no issue with any dog friendly establishments however I have issues with waitresses/servers with poor hygiene and poor customer service ESPECIALLY when gratuity is factored in your price in advance and ther person doesn't deserve that 20%. Lastly, we had to speak to the hostess about the server to finish off the evening with the last pour of red wines. We were able to explain out experience to the hostess. Unfortunately, I will not be returning to Red Hook winery.

Yelp
I was coming from out of town (Rhode Island) and looking to take my good friend out to a winery for her birthday. We found Red Hook Winery and set up a reservation for a weekday afternoon and we had such a wonderful experience. Our host was Emily, who was so knowledgeable of all of the wines and incredibly personable. She made sure we felt at home and provided great service. The space is beautiful inside, but we opted to sit out since the weather was nice and you're right on the water. There's plenty of parking (if you're driving). And the location is great for photos with nice back drops. We ended up buying a bottle of wine to go and hope to come back with other friends!

Yelp
I bought our tasting for 3 people about 10 min before we walked in (during phase 2 reopening) at $25 per person. We sat outside for the tasting and had a fantastic time with our server, Sami. I believe there are usually cheese boards available, but they only had pita chips right now (we got one bag with our tasting and then we bought a couple more). We had planned on getting lunch nearby but we stayed at red hook longer than expected. We bought the red blend on our tasting menu to take home, and bought the rosé Syrah to drink at the winery. All the wines were tasted were from Long Island, my first time having Long Island wine! Can't wait to come back here!

Yelp
My friend and I walked here today to see if we could have a glass of wine outside now that NYC is in phase 2. We found out they are not selling glasses of wine just yet (that's the next phase) but we could choose to have a wine tasting or buy a bottle to take away. We decided on a wine tasting since they had spacious outdoor seating with great views of the East River. We were also the only customers there until later on in the day, so it was perfect. The reason I'm writing this review is because our server was absolutely FANTASTIC. She was really welcoming when we arrived and walked us through our different options and how to book the tasting. We had our two pups with us, she brought them a water bowl, as well as water and an unopened bag of pita chips for us. She took care to explain each wine, as well as let us take our time between each tasting to talk and catch up. We didn't feel rushed at all, only super comfortable and welcomed. I also felt like she was taking great care to stay within the CDC guidances not only for us but for other customers. Because we did the tasting we also got 15% off the already reduced priced wine we bought! We definitely plan on visiting again in the future because this great experience.
