At the bustling Red Lion in Greenwich Village, enjoy nightly rock and blues bands, live soccer matches on big screens, and a lively atmosphere perfect for mingling.
"This Greenwich Village bar is going all in on World Cup-themed dishes. They'll have a burger with brie, fish and chips, and another burger with chimichurri to represent France, England, and Brazil respectively. After the group stage, they'll introduce a rotating menu with dishes specific to the countries still playing. Every match (even the 5am ones) will be shown live via three projectors and three large-screen TVs." - kenny yang
"Most places with live music are either date spots where you listen to jazz while sipping a $18 shot of whiskey with a giant ice cube, or they’re so loud that you just smile and nod when you think someone is speaking to you. In other words, they’re not great places to meet people. The Red Lion is an exception. The big Greenwich Village bar, which has three different bands every night, tends to be just crowded enough, with a dance floor that actually gets used, and a long bar where ordering a drink doesn’t feel like trying to hail a taxi in a rainstorm." - neha talreja, kenny yang, nikko duren, molly fitzpatrick
"If you want your New Year's Eve to have more of a “start drinking at 1pm” kinda vibe, The Red Lion will have bands playing from the early afternoon into the wee hours of the morning. Hopefully, they have drummers that can keep time so you won’t accidentally miss the start of 2024. Tickets start at $125, and they’ll get you an open bar from 9pm to 12am, as well as a party hat and a small, personal horn to toot your way into 2024." - bryan kim, will hartman
"The 29-year-old Red Lion will show all matches, live, with full sound, on multiple large-screen TVs and projectors. To guide those who aren’t following along, the restaurant will have placemats with brackets of each team for tracking progress, as well as flags outside so passers-by know which country’s teams are playing. During matches, the restaurant is also giving away prizes, from gift cards and football jerseys to a grand prize of $1,000 cash. Red Lion will offer dishes that highlight the teams playing such as a chorizo burger during Brazil games to fish and chips during England’s matches." - Melissa McCart
