Was showing a friend the area in the West village and telling her some history of different locations. She came from near Albany for a few days and it was all new to her. We popped into Red Lion a very reputable location and a neighborhood staple. Attentive staff with live music on a decent sized stage. Great food we plit "chicken ceaser wrap" and the wings. Phenomenal food and she said it was the best chicken ceaser wrap she has had In HER LIFE. Shout out to Red Lion.

The bar itself is amazing. Great happy hour, live music every day, food is good too for a pub. We enjoyed it here three days in a row. Sadly I have to give 2 stars (would have been 1 if everything else wasn’t so amazing) since we got scammed there by an employee. It is clearly a bar full of Americans and locals. A few tourists like us as well. We sadly got overcharged by a young employee at the bar. We didn’t know better because we previously only ordered during happy hour. And only after we ordered the drinks again and got charged way less we realized. When I asked how much she hesitated a bit and charged us 20$ instead of 16$ for 2 beers. I obviously paid the 20$ + a tip. Afterwards we were only charged 16$ with another employee. If we weren’t tourist I would have made a fuzz about it but it was our last day in New York and we just wanted a chill night. Other than that it’s a great bar, just check prices beforehand if you are a tourists :/

Great bar to meet people and to have a good time with friends. Bartender at the bar was very friendly. During the daytime there is no cover, then in the night they have a cover (not expensive) with amazing live music. This is a bar that I will repeat again! Fabulous location on Bleecker St where you can eventually go to a different pizza place, another bar or restaurant. Highly recommend if you want to spend a good time!

A great place to experience live blue music. The pub has a long history of hosting live music, and the atmosphere is always electric. The bands that play there are top-notch. It's a great place to let loose and have a good time.

Came here for the $0.50 wings Tuesdays and had an excellent time! The restaurant has a dive-bar feel, and around 7, the live band starts playing. I'd recommend going before that if you want to have a conversation and hear each other. The wings ranged quite a bit in quality between different flavors. To me, dry cajun was DRY, and the buffalo was a bit salty, which was unfortunate. However, the chili sauce was excellent, and the wings are big and juicy for the most part. There is a two-drink requirement, but the drinks are well-priced, which is nice. Service was a bit slow since we were tucked away in a corner, but we weren't expecting the fastest service.

I went for happy hour on a Tuesday, which is also 50 cent wing night. The bar tender was very kind and I enjoyed 2 beers and a cocktail. Live music started playing shortly after 7 pm. The bar was very welcoming and the drinks were heavy and beer was good. The bar tender was attentive and very proactive.

I haven't been in this area for a while. Drinks ok, service is friendly n courteous. The live band was great.

If you are looking for quiet and relaxing pub, this is not the place. If you are looking for a busy and loud sports bar, then the Red Lion is for you. Located on a busy stretch of Bleecker Street, this place is big but still gets packed at night. The crowd can be mixed but because of its location, you 'll see mostly young adults in here. The best reason to come here is their happy hour. On Monday to Fridays from 4:00pm to 7:00pm, they have beers for $4, cocktails for $6 or $7, and a bunch of appetizers available too at discounted prices. I would avoid this place on the weekends though due to crowds, but that's me.

The food wasn't anything amazing (in fact I personally think they could have been cheaper for the quality we received). We were also seated next to the speakers which I think was not the best spot for a date. (We couldn't hear each other at all.) We ended up just getting up and listening to the live music afterwards, which was much more fun. At some point, there was a not so pleasant musky smell that forced us to leave. Good spot for a beer and live music, not so much for a date or a meal. I will say the service was very nice. Waiters were attentive.

Greedily I'm hesitant to share. Tuesdays 4-11pm, $.50/wings. And dannnggg... they are good! Update: Inga held me hostage until I updated the review to say she's the best... pic for proof! Seriously come by. It's a goodie. Updating the update: The bartender that took over for Inga... EIMEAR says she's the best!!!

The band, The Gyst were fantastic. They are a professional band, sound great, and I drove 3 hours to hear them play. The place and people loved them, I would suggest having them play at your establishment more often. The food was also phenomenal.

Terrance at red lion is the best! He makes my night and is the sweetest! I only go to red lion now for him. Music is always fun!

Sadly, not well operated. You have to make reservations, and they send you texts that say you will lose your seating if you show up late. However, they are not able to seat you when you do show up in time. So much for reservations!

I had a negative experience and this is the second. The barmaids are very untrained and horrible to the customers. I was on a video call with my girlfriend showing her the band, then some random woman sitting next to me thought I was taking a video of her. She disrespected me and when I complained to the barmaid she said "can you move over to the other area because you're making her uncomfortable". This is the second time I was exposed to this kind of racism because the was she said she made it very clear. This is the last time I go to this place and I advise not to go to. Train your staff to be more courteous to your customers. This incident happened on April, 26th 2024 at 7 PM.

This bar has been on this spot on and off. Still remains a staple for live music. Large sitting area. Great for groups. The cocktail menu was pricy...

i stumble across the red lion on a wet Wednesday in New York. I got a seat at the bar and was greeted by a very friendly bar woman called Katie. Her cocktails were some of the best I've had. A great bar to come across on a wet day in the City With friendly staff

My go to spot whenever I'm in NYC for casual drinks & amazing live music! The staff is always so welcoming, our bartender Katie went above and beyond to make our night one to remember. Will keep coming back! Also the server Eugene gave us amazing recommendations for our trip!

I go for the music Big Eds Blues Jam but the food and service is pretty good too. Decent fish tacos and surprisingly satisfying greens and grain bowl

Bummer. Love this place. Born and raised New Yorker. Came in for a couple drinks tonight and sat outside. Bartender said nothing when we took our drinks outside with a gazillion open tables, a server came by once and said you guys good? And never came back. We got a second drink bartender served us again saw us go out not a word. As my partner went in for one last round a doorman was there and carded him and my partner said no prob were here already just cashing out he got one more drink cashed out and then the bouncer was like hey dude you can't take drinks outside you need a server. My partner explained totally fine we're closed out and we had a server he never mentioned this to us nor did the bartender and the server never came back after his first pass by. I went in because that was a pretty shitty unnecessary experience and we would have been happy to have a server if the server would have told us and/or came back or the bartender let us know. The bouncer was rude and disrespectful as my partner walked out. My New York energy doesn't have time for unnecessary drama so when I went in to use the bathroom I approached the bouncer and calmly told him the same scenario and I said it's not my problem if your server doesn't serve me and he said "it is your problem!" and at that point I walked away and as I walked away he called me "Karen" - Lolol what? How is it my problem I didn't follow your rules that the bartender or server didn't even mention. I'd be fine if a server served us he never asked to. calling someone Karen is weird and immature particularly when all i did was inquire why the rules weren't clear -- happy to follow rules if anyone told them. I tried to talk to the bar staff, yes me "Karen", who was upset how I was treated when asking why I was reprimanded by a bouncer for not following ordering rules that the bartender nor server told us; the day bartender who had served us was super kind and said she'd speak to the bouncer (will she or was she just trying to placate me). But the night manager who was actually responsible "George" said oh I'm sorry and I said really that's all your going to; you're sorry? You didn't state your rules nor did the bartender OR the server who came over. And then I get called names? Listen we want to come back bc we like the vibe here but something better needs to be done. There's a million doormen in the city get rid of that one, train your staff and find a capable decent human being to handle your door and focus on if there's a real problem. This was such an unpleasant experience for no good reason.

We had the best Time coming here last Friday night (4-21-23) The highlight of the evening was definitely the live band, The Memory Pain, who were beyond phenomenal. From the moment they took the stage, the energy in the room skyrocketed and the crowd was electrified. The band played a wide variety of covers from the early 2000s and 90s, including hits from Smash Mouth, Panic! At the Disco, The Killers, Boys Like Girls, Yellowcard, Paramore, and so many more! Their performance was simply incredible, and they had everyone in the crowd singing along and dancing like nobody was watching. The atmosphere at The Red Lion was also fantastic - the bar and dance floor were bustling. We had a table in the back and the waitress was on top of it, friendly and accommodating, making sure we were all hydrated with alcohol and water. If you're looking for a night out filled with great music, a lively atmosphere, and an unforgettable experience, this is definitely the place to be. And if The Memory Pain are playing, you're in for a real treat! Don't miss out on the opportunity to see them perform live - they're absolutely amazing!

This place has one of the best deals in the city! My husband and I like coming here for the happy hour wings. If you come on a Tuesday and order a minimum of 2 drinks, you can get 50 cent wings of your choice. When we went, they had Buffalo, Parmesan, sweet chili, and barbecue. The chicken wings were pretty substantial and I thought they were extremely worth it. For my 2 drinks, I opted for Magners Pear Cider (which is one of my favorite ciders) There's also live music, which makes the night super fun! They do covers of a lot of contemporary and classic songs.

Popped in here when I realized how often I walk by this bar but have never actually been inside. Immediately upon entering I grasped the vibe- sports bar meets live music. A lot of the seating is bar stool/ tall stool seating. There are a few standard tables available as well. Please note the tables are for table service only. The music when I came in was country, but throughout my time there the set changed into an alternative rock band. I liked and appreciated the variety. It was a mixed crowd too, which I enjoyed. I wasn't able to try the food, but the drinks were standard. I'd definitely come back to watch some more live music in the future!

A couple friends and I decided to try this casual bar spot for lunch and I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. However, the service was lacking. The outdoor seating was nicely sprawled out in a spacious setting. There was no menu given to us because we had to view it online. I ordered the chicken and mushroom quesadilla, as well as the truffle tater tots {because I love truffle anything!} The quesadilla was filled with melted swiss, cheddar, and pepper jack cheeses, and served with pico de gallo, guacamole, and sour cream. The tortilla shells were perfectly lightly crisp and the mixture of cheeses worked really well together. They were melty in your mouth delicious. There were also plenty of pieces of chicken and slices of mushroom. The chicken was slightly crunchy with tasty seasoning, as well as tender and juicy. The mushroom was fresh and cooked well. I loved how much of each ingredient was in the quesadilla, making it very thick and filling. The truffle tater tots were absolutely delicious! They were served with Parmesan cheese. Wonderfully crisp and strong flavor of truffle oil permeated the tater tots. I also got to try the fried zucchini, which also had shredded Parmesan cheese on top. These were expertly breaded and boasted a satisfying crunch. There was definitely a lot of flavor packed into this appetizer. The service was not great, because we had to go to the window for everything: Ordering, asking for water or napkins, and finally, to pay for the meal. My friends and I took turns to do each, so I had to request the check, as well as pay. There were a few folks ahead of me, so I ended up having to wait longer than I wanted. I understand that many of these precautions need to take place to prevent the spread of COVID-19, but it seemed we had to take care of everything, so it was basically self-service. In this case, I almost didn't feel like giving a tip. I won't be back anytime soon.

One of my favorite bars in New York. I stop by for lunch and a Guinness at least 2 times a week. Fantastic burger and chicken sandwich. Having GOOD live music every single day is testament to the care and thought they put into running the joint. Clodagh, Inga and Katie are not only absolute rockstar bartenders but also genuinely incredible humans.

Bartender Clodagh is excellent. Managed the bar so well even when things were busy with a popular soccer game. Didn't wait more than a few seconds for any drinks, and she remembered my order when I wanted another drink.

Maybe it's not totally fair to base a review on a place that's packed for a World Cup match, but that's enough to need to come on here just to say that if nothing else, get a nice cold beer and their incredible chicken fingers. No, really. Classy though I generally am, that was the highlight of the visit. The server told our friend they'd come out quickly, and given how insanely busy they were, he didn't want to disappoint us waiting for food - and he was right. Only downside is they got so chaotic that beer orders got confused but that's down to again big crowds including people out on the sidewalk, so I can't get too annoyed about that. Would return for sure. One thing I noticed, and I don't think it's on them, but shrinkflation is real - a Stella Artois chalice is now 400mL, not 500mL as it used to be!

I used to come here very often for lunch, the place was normally full even without any sports going on. Stopped going for a while, and I can say the service is no longer the same. There used to be a curly woman bartender who was great. Yesterday I came in to watch a soccer game but she wasn't there. Me and another man were watching a soccer game but it it took the bartender 30 minutes to put it on after asking her several times. While watching it, 2 other people came in and asked for another game, without hesitating she changed it forgetting we were watching it. The place was empty. I've never seen it like this during lunchtime. This is supposed to be a sports bar but you can't even enjoy it. I doubt I'll be coming back.

This rating is ONLY for the chicken wings. The ambiance and quality of music is 6 stars out of 5 stars. I have been here at least 50 times for music and this is the first time ordering food. I am a huge chicken wing fan. I'm no spring chicken, no pun intended :) Have been eating wings for 35-plus years. I ordered the buffalo chicken wings. They were really bad, truly inedible. I have never had so salty of wings ever. Not sure what sauce is used or maybe it was the bottom of the barrel sauce where the salt congregated but it was terrible.

Good service, plastic cups are meh, decent wings and fries. Irish pub-ish with live music. Good happy hour in the city.

I live above the red lion and there is a man singing every night outside with a speaker and a microphone and will not allow me to sleep. Please tell him to go elsewhere. It is a weeknight. They have not done anything about this.

A few friends and I went here after brunch to watch the Seahawks football game. It's a small little dive bar in East Village. A great spot for sports fans! I ordered the Espress Yourself. It is an espresso martini, simply put. It wasn't phenomenal, but it wasn't the worst. It tasted more bitter which led me to believe they used a darker roast for the espresso. Overall, it wasn't anything special. The bar is very casual. It's definitely nothing too fancy. It's more of a place to hang out with friends and have a casual drink than anything else. If you go to watch a game, be sure to plan accordingly. It was packed when we arrived, and we were lucky we found a spot for 10 people.

Came here on a Wednesday night. Got to say the place was pretty popping for just a middle of the week night. The live music makes this place a jolly good time. Haven't had the food yet, Coronas are about $7. Disappointed in the lack of lions around.

I do not recommend Red Lion by any means. The bar is known for phones being stolen. On 1/14/22 my phone was stolen out of my jacket pocket within two minutes of being at the bar. The phone was immediately turned off and the location was not identifiable. On 1/26/22 the phone location appeared on Find My iPhone and it was in Aventura, FL near a large mall, likely being resold. Based on this t-shirt being sold behind the bar saying "I got my phone stolen at the Red Lion," this is likely a common occurrence. I'm convinced the employees are involved in this ongoing theft issue. They did not seemed concerned at the least bit when I reported it. Please be aware of this if you choose to go. They overcrowd the bar to be incredibly packed, unsafe level. Be alert. They need to be investigated.

We stopped here on a Monday around 2 pm after touring NYU with our daughter. It was a decent day so we sat outside. It smelled, well, like a bar on the inside. Husband really enjoyed his pretzel bites and raves about the mustard. Daughter liked her tater tots, very cheesy and satisfying. I had the Shepard's Pie which was a nice combination of meat, veggies and potatoes. Comfort food for sure. It was a decent lunch and the bar tender/waitress was super attentive and friendly. My older daughter said the bar can get a bit crazy at night, but during the day their were only a handful of people drinking. Plus, the Beth rooms were super clean. If you are looking for a quick bite and good service, this is your spot.

I didn't come here for a band, I came for lunch on a weekday after a bonkers work morning, and needed sustenance and a drink. (Yeah, it was that kind of morning ‍) GET THE STREET TACOS! The bang for your buck is fantastic, flavorful as all get out, and filling. 8 bucks for 2. Yes please. Their house beer is perfect, a light amber. Great nostalgia tuned playing, Ace of Base, Ke$ha, bananarama. Can't wait to catch music here, and in the meantime, I know I'll have a full happy belly and lifted spirits whenever I roll up. This place is great. Live music, but not too loud. Great bloody and the cleanest, warmest bathroom in this part of town. Came for the toilet, started for the bloody!

The red lion is a quintessential going-out spot here in the city. They have great live music and usually a relatively fun young rowdy crowd. The food is bar food (it's not what they're known for) and the drinks are totally acceptable. If you do go, keep in mind the lines are long on the weekends so be sure to get there a bit early!

The place sucks because of aggressive drunkers and rude security who fail to do their job right. While ordering drinks at the bar, I was attacked by a drunk customer, who tried talking to me and did not like that I ignored him. In a moment, his friend calmed him down. But then a security man came and asked me (!) to leave the pub. He asked ME to leave but not the drunk attacker, as it would be expected in such case! The security person refused to show his ID or badge, he refused to explain the reason he wanted me to leave. Even though he acknowledged that I was not an attacker but the one who was attacked, he kept insisting that I should leave. He promised to tell me the reason when we go outside the pub, but when I went out, he said I can not get back in and closed the door right in front of me, without any explanation. And then, when I opened the door to get back in, he used physical force to get me out of the pub... Such never happened to me not just in NYC but in any city in the world. How come, Red Lion, you hire such people to work as security in Village, NYC?

Went here after Cafe Wha for some more live music. Got in past 3 so there was no cover for the last hour of music. Great night cap for live music

My baseball team stayed at this hotel for a baseball tournament. the service was great and staff was very helpful and courteous. Pool was great for the adults and kids. Would definitively stay over again

Sketchy place. Lots of uncomfortable circumstances women and men beware. This is not necessary the Lions fault but be careful about your surroundings. When I reported the incident. They blew it off as no big deal. Always go with your gut feelings if something feels off it most likely is...... safety is a big concern......

Good lunch, friendly service . We Had the Po Boy sandwich, and burger that looked amazing. Nice lunch spot, would go back next time I'm in the area
