The Best Restaurants for Valentine’s Day in New York City

"Dining at a hotel restaurant can be a little sexy, and this iconic spot on Park Avenue, with deep booths and mirrors, is ideal for a celebratory meal. Among the highlights on the $175 special menu, largely sourced from regional organic farms, are white asparagus soup; foie gras terrine with balsamic figs and ginger pear chutney; celeriac carpaccio; parsnip tagliatelle; sea bass with root vegetables and Key lime; and filet of beef. Finish with chocolate lava cake, and you might still be around for the power breakfast." - Beth Landman

13 Hotel Restaurants in NYC Not Just For Tourists - Eater NY

"The Loews Regency Hotel isn’t situated in a neighborhood dotted with trendy natural wine bars or restaurants led by big name chefs, but the Regency Bar & Grill located on the first floor is still going strong as the power breakfast stop in town. It’s not uncommon to find black town cars lined up outside in the early mornings as people gather for meetings. For those joining the morning ritual, expect the typical diner fare but with egg dishes around the $30 mark or more." - Bao Ong

"The Regency's Bar was traditionally known as a breakfast option, but after an extensive remodel and re-staffing of the kitchen last year, it's become a solid option for lunch and dinner as well. The menu is pretty all-American so you can't go wrong with anything, but the grilled squid is gorgeously presented (on a bed of quinoa—a surprisingly good combination) and the dry-aged rib-eye, which is meant for two people, is perfectly cooked."

From the moment I sat down, I felt uncomfortable, but I thought perhaps it was me being bourgeoisie (I frequent a lot of upscale places in the city). Then, not only did I watch the bartenders have conversations with everyone around me and make me feel invisible, food took forever to come, and I was POISONED! By the time my dessert came, I was too sick to enjoy it 😮‍💨 I ordered the very mediocre Crab cakes and had to be walked to get in my car due to being ill. Spend my weekend sick and ended up in the hospital. Dizziness, nausea, irregular breathing... you name it. I don't recommend it for people of color especially.👎🏽 Out of over a thousand reviews I left on Google, I never had to leave one like this and hate having to do it, but never experienced this in NYC ever and I'm a native Manhattan resident!

I was really excited to go here because I am a big Housewives of New York fan and they always go here in the show. We sat at the bar and had a couple drinks that were ridiculously expensive. Like, comical. Decided not to get food because the vibe was just off. The patrons around us were insufferable. I finally worked the nerve up to ask the bartender if the housewives still come around and I could tell he was NOT happy to be asked that question. Like geez my bad dude, at least feign some interest. Glad I went just to say I did it but I would not go back. Ended up getting dinner at Carnegie Diner and it was fab.

Google
Good addition to an East side restaurant wasteland... Very pleasant and more casual remake of the hotel's restaurant that we remember well. Nice bar menu of sliders, French fries, snacks. Serve complimentary nuts and popcorn with very good cocktails, done with a fun summer tropical twist. Yummy steaks and grilled fish. Large chef's salad was tasty and fresh. Indulged in cheese cake, chocolate ganache and a heavenly lemon tart among many good desserts!

Google
Over cooked my steak and all they offered was free dessert. That is not even half the value. The dessert was dry as heck and I've ordered bad pallea with less hassle. I would not recommend this place and I would look for a different hotel to stay at if this is the level of service I have pay for.

Google
Absolutely loved the service first off Stefan! Three egg omelette was awesome, I also opted for salmon to be included. Belgian waffle and the breakfast sandwich are great choice’s as well.

Google
Awesome hotel lobby Steakhouse! Great atmosphere with professional staff crushing it everyday. Steak & Eggs - prepared perfectly and served with class!

I was excited to visit but underwhelmed by my experience. First, the service was poor. I had to ask for water refills, ask for coffee refills, ask to have my plates removed. Second, two slices of basic, non-artisan cold white toast was $13.00 while 3 slices of over cooked bacon was $14.00 I hardly think $30 for that was worth it. The $23.00 oatmeal was cooked in water not milk. lukewarm and crunchy, very unenjoyable. The coffee was served with milk not cream and I had to request that. The eggs Benedict over salmon was good.

Google
I love this restaurant. The halibut was served over quinoa with sautéed spinach and sprouts. Utterly fresh, tasty and delicious. We had amazingly creamy and cold vanilla ice creme with chocolate syrup. My server Caesar was kind and professional. The manager Ivan passed by to check on us. I highly recommend this restaurant!! BTW excellent cocktails!!! I enjoy the subdued lighting and the booths are beyond comfy and relaxing. Simply a modern classic!!! Make your reservation.

Yelp
Had a breakfast business meeting here because it was within walking distance of my next meeting. The service team was attentive and came around at a good pace. Never felt rushed. It was packed out with every table filled. However, the noise level was acceptable. Everyone enjoyed their meal. We ordered the Salmon Benedict and a regular breakfast with 2 eggs and bacon. The orange juice was fresh.

Yelp
On 4/12/24 around 12:30 pm, my brother and his wife walk in for some lunch. They sit down at a table and after least 15 minutes or so to get some menus, nobody couldn't be bothered to help them. Eventually my brother flagged someone down and he had placed in an order for a voodoo ranger IPA, after the employee brought out the beer, the beer wasn't the one my brother had ordered. Then the employee had the nerve to say they're out of the beer my brother wanted. In retaliation of the shitty service, my brother and his wife got up and left. They ended up going somewhere else with much better service. When customers get hungry, they expect the servers to be available prior to walking into a restaurant and sitting down at a table and not being ignored like my brother and his wife was.

Yelp
Ordered a Bloody Mary w a double shot of grey goose & a regular bloody...tab $75 bartender was super dismissive like that's normal.

Yelp
The service is fine but everything is extremely overpriced. For very average drinks, even by NYC standards. You can definitely tell people go there to try to spot celebs.

Yelp
The Regency Bar & Grill is the home to the quintessential New York City "power breakfast" and lunch for "ladies who lunch." Very much a NY power scene, the food and service are equally good. Located in the Regency Hotel with an entrance on Park Avenue and one off the hotel lobby. See and be seen!

Yelp
We really enjoyed our meal here, but everything is overpriced since it's probably connected to a hotel and they get a lot of business clientele. We started with the tuna tartare and chef salad and both were great. The salads are huge. I then got the crab cakes as my main dish and they had great flavor and were perfectly cooked. My husband got the braised beef and he loved it. The drinks are also very good.

Yelp
I dined twice at Loews Regency Bar and Grill during one week, and I cannot wait to be back soon, whether for business or personal events and meetings. From the moment I walked into the hotel and the restaurant, I felt as if I had immersed myself into an exclusive and refined atmosphere permeated with the historical and cultural ambience of New York City. From the vibrant modern aesthetic of the hotel lobby to the seclusion and warmth of the restaurant with its welcoming and attentive staff, the luxurious sensory experience and sophisticated glamor made me feel special. The menu also represented the local culture of New York City, with multifaceted options, and the service was exceptional, with strong attention to detail to make everyone's experience enjoyable and memorable. The dishes were prepared with the freshest ingredients that burst with flavor. The presentation of the food was both artistic and authentic to reflect the heritage of the restaurant and the culture of the neighborhood. The exquisite cuisine, exceptional service, and attention to detail provided a unique and special experience that I will treasure for life. I highly recommend the restaurant to anyone looking for an unforgettable dining experience.

Yelp
Just finished a quick lunch here with a group of four business associates and a client. I have to say that it was the most disappointing lunch I've ever had in my 30 years of living in New York. We were told at 1:40 PM to have a seat but to hurry up because the kitchen was closing at 2 PM. What five-star hotel closes their kitchen in the middle of a business weekday and refuses to give you dessert because the kitchen is closed? A simple lunch of mediocre salads and $10 Diet Cokes totaled $400 for five people. It was the most egregious rip off but more importantly it was embarrassing to bring clients there because it was just like a cafeteria and they could not have cared less. I know that the Tisch family is very proud of this property but quite honestly I would go in at this time (because it's not at full capacity) and redo the menu to match the hotel and location.

Yelp
As far as dining options go in Midtown, this one is swanky. Very classic power lunch spot. But casual and approachable with lots of space between the tables. I had lunch here and would come back. Wine list was great. Although I when I asked for the Riesling he brought out a different bottle and showed me. Realized wasn't the one I wanted and he promptly apologized then produced the one I asked for. All good as situation was handled expertly - very nice, guys! Leeuwin was very tasty, and perfect for drinking on a summer day with the grilled chicken paillard. Grilled chicken paillard was so much more than I expected. Simple, pounded thinly grilled chicken breast was done perfectly. Still juicy and tender in a good way. Dressing served on the side as I requested. Service is very quick. Your food and drinks will be out, quickly. Overall, very solid spot for breakfast or lunch.

Yelp
The Regency Bar & Grill is the main restauraunt inside Loews Regency New York, accessed by a couple of steps or a service desk, it is a pretty large place, and I called in here hoping to grab some food before heading to Central Park which is a short walk away. The food here is really expensive, even by NY standards - Brunch items were costing in excess of 25 dollars which are extortionate with sides of around $12. For example, a dish of potatoes with toast and bacon or sausage would come to $25 before tax, which would cost around a third of that back home in the UK. I also found the menus to be a little confusing, with different menus outside to inside the restauraunt and it didn't clearly state what menu was being served when. The staff also didn't seem too helpful when explaining what I could and couldn't eat being coeliac (gluten-free), they seemed more pushy than helpful in regards to getting me to order drinks without knowing if I can eat anything, it really did feel like the staff were on some form of commission while showing allergy incompetence. 1*

Yelp
After a 9 hour flight from Barcelona to NYC and a ride from JFK during rush hour traffic with 2 kids, we checked in to the Loews Hotel and were famished. Still in our airplane attire the concierge desk encouraged us to dine at the Regency Bar and Grill. Exhausted, I didn't have the energy to google a restaurant nearby. So we dined there, as it looked busy and inviting. The hostess sat us promptly and it went downhill from there. The waiter barely checked in on us. My husband had to go to the hostess stand to ask for bread service because we were watching everyone else be served bread baskets. When it arrived, it was a basket of cold bread sticks. We ordered the RBG burger to share - for $32 plus $2 for cheese- it was a thick piece of meat and looked great but lacked flavor and was over cooked. Our boys got the burger off the kids meal. Ended up being 3 mini burgers with cheese- no LTO or anything to make it more presentable. The bread was toasted way too long and all the fries were cold. The kids meal was $24. For approx $98 for one entree and 2 kids meals that lacked proper temperature, flavor, and no service, I would not return.

Yelp
The food was mediocre and the service was terrible. We are frequent travelers to the city and hoped to just pop down here for a quick breakfast. What was supposed to be an in-and-out situation turned into an hour and a half saga with missed orders and just general frustration. My first assumption was that it was short staffed, but while I'd normally give the benefit of the doubt, I saw no fewer than nine people on the floor for what seemed like around 40 tables with many of them empty. We came at prime time for lunch, but it just seemed impossible for the experience to match up with the logistics that we observed -- especially for a breakfast that charges $8 for coffee. We ordered an omelette and a salmon Benedict. When they finally arrived, it was just fine, though the eggs for the omelette were over cooked and the poached eggs on the Benedict clearly were rushed and not done well, with the egg already broken upon arrival. But the Benedict had to be sent back initially due to a messed up order, when we asked for no hollandaise sauce. The food took an hour to get out, and then after that, an additional 20 minutes to correct the order. The rest of the meal was fine, large portions, but it was just a really frustrating experience. Potatoes were hit and miss, with some undercooked and some fine. What was worse about all this was we went through what seemed like three servers, and when the final check arrived an hour and a half after we arrived, with multiple messed up orders, nothing was comped. We took this to the next server who finally came back to let us know the meal would be comped, but we're stunned to get a check for $73 after that whole saga. I understand that it might have been a rushed hour, but clearly something was off and while our final server worked hard to make sure they corrected the experience, it was just a complete whiff. I would recommend going to a different restaurant or even one of the smaller shops nearby.

Yelp
Turkey club sounded really good on their menu and when I got it it was 3 layers of bread, turkey, lettuce and tomato and it was very dry. It was honestly so simple for $34. I don't mind paying for food when it actually is quality but I wouldn't eat this sandwich again even if it was offered to me for free. I've never been so unhappy paying such a high price for food and I live in NYC! This is literally my first time writing a review but it's very necessary!

Yelp
This place is perfection. Late night, after a show, ask for Sonny. He makes a fantastic Sazerac. The vibe is cool and easy. Especially great when you stay at the adjoining hotel, which is lovely and quiet, and ideally situated for the Park Avenue Armory, the Park, The Met....highly recommend!

David H.

Yelp
Horrible service. The bartender on my April 18 visit at 3pm was more interested in restocking the bar and chatting with a customer friend then in providing me with even basic service. She didn't welcome me to my countertop seat, she didn't make eye contact, she didn't ask me what I wanted to drink. When I asked her for drink she made it, set it in front of me and walked away. I had to ask her for a bar menu. Made she was having a bad day, but if I were her manager I would focus on the negative experience she was creating for guests.

Yelp
Best club sandwich I could find in Manhattan. They had a special honey mustard using 3 different types of mustard that came on the side if you ask for it. It was delicious. The bartender was very friendly and fun. We will go back again!!

Yelp
As we stayed at Loews Regency we also had to try Regency Bar & Grill. We had breakfast there one morning, and it was definitely expensive, and we expected more for 34 USD. They served coffee, juice, eggs with toast and potatoes and that was it. We definitely didn't go there again for breakfast. The lunch menu was much better, I think. After a long shopping trip I went in to have some wine and after a while my parents joined me for lunch. We had crab cakes and an Upper East side club. The portions were perfectly sized and was well prepared. Of course we also had to try the cocktails, on our last evening there we went in to try them out. The room was really noisy, which is OK to a certain point, it is a bar/restaurant, but it was a little too much. The cocktails were good. We got a blueberry mojo to and an old Cuban. The old Cuban was quite small, but overall the cocktails were just fine. The price was also acceptable. Overall a pretty pricey restaurant/bar, but it is on Park Avenue, so it is kind of expected. I would recommended this place for drinks, wine and lunch. The breakfast can be had better elsewhere.

Eric K.

Yelp
The prices at The Regency Bar are beyond anything I've seen before. I live in NYC and am accustomed to the prices. I cannot pay $35 for a martini and then sleep at night (incidentally I'm rich) Management... please review your pricing.

Yelp
Good service, foods were delicious, didn't want to go far from hotel.. ambience is nice, a little pricey.. not so crowded on Saturday night.
google avatar

Jonathan R.

Yelp
Ordered a $30 standard burger (charged extra for cheese so $34 total) and $12 beer. Beer was exactly like every other Heineken bottled should be. Burger meat was good but bun was clearly stale. Tomatoes mealy. Fries had been frozen. Service perfectly adequate but not friendly.

Yelp
We had an incredible time at the bar this evening! The bartender Gavin was wonderful! The drinks are worth every cent!! The best part of the evening was Omega, the lovely food and beverage manager... he was so generous and kind with us and truly made our time there very special!! We have been 4 or 5 times and can't wait to go back again!!
google avatar

Nadine K.

Yelp
I just walked out. I sat down at 8:03 AM and told the staff I needed to have a quick meal, ordered right away, sat waiting until 8:40 when I left before getting my food.
google avatar

Irene K.

Yelp
Went here for brunch and was very pleasantly surprised. Every seat seams to be a good seat here, the dining area is very brightly lit and the ambiance is very welcoming. Service was quick and the food was delish! I had eggs benedict and a perfect cup of cappuccino. Judging by past reviews I think they may have improved their breakfast/brunch selection recently, I would definitely come back again.
google avatar

Juliet W.

Yelp
i came to the regency for breakfast with a friend. we wanted something light as we had just done SLT (try it if you haven't yet). what we got was hands down one of the most overpriced and underwhelming experiences of our lives. two eggs over easy no garnish on an extra large plate, less than fresh grapefruit, berry bowl, coffee and orange juice. the total $108.88 THIS IS INSANE. what the hell is this place? if you're going to charge $18 for eggs at least throw some parsley on there or i don't know, potatoes???? never go here.
google avatar

Anne R.

Yelp
Jonny is the most tolerant server in Manhattan. We're staying at this hotel, he didn't make us feel like tourist. He was there when he needed to be. He was pretty much just perfect.

Julia N.

Yelp
Service is slow. Our server was Jeffrey. glass of coke is 10$ and basic turkey club cost 34$. I've had better food in middle of no where diners . I work and live in the area and would never come back. This place prays on tourists. Food is very over priced for what it is and 10$ for soda is absurd!!
google avatar

Yelp
This is the kind of bar you come to to people watch. I went on a Thursday night around 9, and it's a really interesting crowd. Cocktails are VERY expense (I'm talking four drinks for $130+ expensive) but they were definitely tasty. I had a tequila based cocktail that was really fantastic. The bar has a decent amount of seating and good lighting, and it's surrounded by tables that are up for grabs. Around 9:30 on a Thursday we were able to grab seats at the bar, and by 10ish some of the tables had opened up. I would definitely come back for the ambience alone.

Brenda S.

Yelp
It was NOT about Tom tonight but it was about my bartender John. He was attentive and very kind. Would come back here again.

Christopher B.

Yelp
Dinner at the Regency Bar was fine, nothing special. The Manager went out of his way to pay for my drink due to an unruly customer near me. Food was mediocre, drinks were good. The chopped Cobb salad was decent, but the fries were nothing special, although I liked the three dipping sauces that came with them. In total, the food was way overpriced. My total bill came to $124 (incl. tax and tip) for the Cobb salad, side of fries and two drinks. Breakfast was terrible. $30 for a cold, stale English muffin, glass of juice and cup of coffee. I also ordered a grapefruit, which was poorly cut, and it was the smallest grapefruit I've ever seen. For $12, I essentially got 1-2 bites of fruit.

Lynn B.

Yelp
I took my friend to dinner for her birthday tonight. I told the front desk it was her birthday and they said they would bring a piece of cake with a candle at the end of dinner. The food was awful...lukewarm crab cakes. The desserts which were comped because of a roach, the size of Rhode Island, raced across the dining room floor. Thank goodness they were comped. After telling the waiter, who never stopped by the table, at least 5 times that I wanted two scoops of ice cream, he got the flavors wrong 2X! The rum raisin ice cream was so sweet and tasted like dates, not raisins. My friend's "flourless chocolate cake" was a wedge of refrigerated fudge...inedible....by the way, no cake with candle ever arrived!!! Terrible service, terrible clueless rude service and cockroaches! What more can you ask for when dining out for your birthday? In addition, loud uncouth group of business people were placed at a large table next to us. Too bad, this was once a high end place with high end clientele. Stay away!!

kathy g.

Yelp
Loved the ambience The warmth of the greeters We ate breakfast leaisurely Egg white fitatats They dont rush you They brought out 3 desserts for my sisters birthday Cant wait to go back Expensive

Jon M.

Yelp
This is the place to go for a business power breakfast. The service is quick and unobtrusive & the crowd is just right!

Keith R.

Yelp
Stopped for a drink before heading out to dinner. Don't mind paying a bit of a premium for a hotel bar, but $38 for a vodka tonic and $32 for a jack and coke is indefensible. $85 for two cocktails after tax and tip. The next morning I stopped to get a cup of coffee and the gentleman behind the counter was dismissive and inattentive. Nice hotel but won't be going to the restaurant again.

Kent M.

Yelp
Who doesn't like a $20 glass of house wine. Absolutely ridiculous. Staff hovered over me as I had this glass of wine speaking in another language but never once servicing me or checking on me.

Len L.

Yelp
Good brunch. Just the right amount of atmosphere; energetic but not too loud to have a conversation.
