"The Revolution is the result of a to-the-studs renovation of a former historic YWCA and hostel in Boston's South End—so while the developers outfitted the building with utilitarian-chic rooms and art-filled community spaces, it’s clear from the smallest room categories with shared bathrooms that this building had a previous life. Young travelers flock to the property for competitively priced rooms: The Revolution does a great job of delivering serious, stylish value in the heart of a city where hotel rooms can easily cost twice as much as they do here. If you’re flying solo and cringe at the idea of shared bathrooms, there’s an en-suite, entry-level category so you can keep your privacy and stick to your budget; pairs may want to upgrade to the Studio Suites or newly-added Revolution Lofts, which are located next-door to the main hotel building. The Revolution sits at the confluence of Back Bay, the South End, and downtown Boston, in the heart of none of those neighborhoods but a two-minute walk to each of them; the property offers complimentary bike rentals so you can cruise around and explore, too." - Shannon McMahon, Todd Plummer

"Opened in 1866 as one of the first YWCAs in the United States, the Revolution has been transformed into a contemporary, budget-friendly hotel that honors Boston’s past. The building is a historical landmark so the walls couldn’t be altered, which means many of the 177 guest rooms are fairly compact." - Bailey Berg

"Why book? While traditional travelers might long for more spacious rooms and gawk at the thought of shared bathrooms (don’t worry, those are only for the entry-level room categories). The Revolution does a great job of delivering serious, stylish value in the heart of a city where hotel rooms can easily cost twice as much as they do here. Set the scene Young travelers flock to The Revolution for its competitively-priced rooms—and who cares about a small room or having to share a bathroom when you’re out exploring the best neighborhoods of the city all day, anyway? You’re bound to encounter some interesting people watching while passing through, whether it’s a Cos-clad hipster lingering over a cappuccino in the mod-meets-maximalist lobby, or locals grabbing brunch at the hotel’s restaurant, Cósmica. The backstory The Revolution is the result of a to-the-studs renovation of a former historic YWCA and hostel, and officially opened its doors in September 2018. So while the developers and current operator Provenance Hotels might have outfitted the building with street-art murals in the foyer, a happening restaurant and lobby, once you get upstairs to the rooms, it’s clear from the smaller room categories (especially from those with shared bathrooms) that this building had a previous life. The rooms The decor is a chaotic mashup of utilitarian details, midcentury modern lines, and maximalist art, but it’s a mix that somehow works. At just 130 square feet, the entry-level rooms are definitely on the cozy side: the kind of room where you can wash your hands in a sink, hang up a coat, and step into bed all from the same spot. It’s just enough space for a solo business or leisure traveler, but if you’re traveling in a pair you may want to upgrade to the Studio Suites, or better yet, the newly-added Revolution Lofts, which are located next-door to the main hotel building. There are also bunk-bed rooms which could be fun for a friends’ trip, or for those traveling with little ones. All of the rooms come with radio alarm clocks, plush robes and slippers, and in-room safes. And before you panic at another mention of shared bathrooms, those are only found in the entry-level room categories. There's an en-suite option too, so you can keep your privacy and keep to your budget. Food and drink There’s a coffee bar off the lobby which serves up barista drinks using Abracadabra Coffee beans roasted in Vermont. And the hotel’s attached Cósmica restaurant is one of the best taquerias in the area. Chef Colton Coburn-Wood’s fluke tostada made with habanero and passion fruit is the stuff of legends, and the fried clam tacos with smoked jalapeño aioli are a blend of New England and Mexican cuisines you’re unlikely to find anywhere else. Walk by the hotel on a warm South End night and the outdoor dining space is likely to be packed to the gills with creative types, foodies, and young professionals leaving work. The neighborhood/area The Revolution sits at the confluence of Back Bay, the South End, and downtown, in the heart of none of those neighborhoods but a two minute walk to each of them. The hotel offers complimentary bike rentals so you can cruise around and explore. This stretch of Berkeley Street can get pretty busy with car traffic during rush hours, but come nightfall is wonderfully deserted so you can catch some Z’s with ease. The service Expect friendly, congenial help that makes you feel welcome; not the turned-up noses you might find in Boston’s more posh hotels. The staff here are the type that make you feel like they’re your best local friend, and are more than willing to advise on where you should be eating, drinking and playing during your visit. Accessibility The hotel is ADA compliant, and offers accessible rooms with features like roll-in showers, beds accessible on three sides, and a Hoyer lift available upon request. Anything left to mention? Something that stands out is the hotel’s commitment to art. Created by local creative ensemble Individuals Collective, a three-story “Innovation Tower” wrapped around the lobby’s elevator column celebrates some of Boston’s greatest inventions, like Bose headphones, the typewriter, the basketball, and even flamingo lawn ornaments. Just outside the lobby in the foyer you’ll find a 65-foot mural interpreting various vignettes from Boston history by (L.A.-based) artist Tristan Eaton. The hotel also participates in Provenance Hotels’ Artist-in-Residency program, which hosts artists for weeklong stays so they can get the creative juices flowing." - Todd Plummer

I booked this hotel fearing a bit the shared bathroom, but not be scared about this! All the bathrooms are kept well cleaned, and are sufficient in number to serve all the rooms, I never waited outside. The gym is well equipped, maybe just a bit small. There is a nice coworking area, and water distributors in the aisles. The hotel is located in a good position to discover Boston even by walking. Recommended!!

Google
Don't let the "bath down the hall" scare you away! They were always clean, they are a private bathroom shower/sink/toilet with locking doors, they were usually unoccupied, and not far from any of the rooms. The hotel is beautiful and in an amazing area with everything you need close by! Not far from the trains or busses either. We will definitely stay here again! The bed was super comfortable as well. My only small complaint is that other patrons weren't courteous of others when going back and forth to their rooms, they were obnoxiously loud. Overall 5/5, everyone at the front desk was super helpful and accommodating to requests.

Despite bathrooms and toilet down the hall, they were clean and organised and convenient. All staffs were friendly and helpful. The space for networking at the basement is probably the hidden gem. For the price you pay, the rooms and convenience and comfort was unbeatable.

Google
not the cleanest but pretty cheap and cozy. bloody snot rocket in the sink but good view. you win some amd you lose some. communal bathroom, 5 stalls. at one point they were all out of commission. Not good. but i liked the place. close to chinatown and south station.

Good hotel. Easy check-in. Friendly staff. Clean rooms. Although bathrooms are not in the rooms themselves, they are always very clean.

Google
I loved our stay at the Revolution Hotel! The rates are great, the place was clean, charmingly decorated, the location was perfect to walk right into the city, and had beautiful views. My biggest note is to double check when you book if you’re having a “shared” bathroom. They’re very clean and private, but worth noting if you’re someone who needs to use the bathroom in the night. The rooms are snug but cute! Perfect for snuggling up and watching a snowstorm over the city.

Google
People were nice, but room is too small and noisier from inside and outside of the Hotel, not good heat insulation, cold winds out of the window all night. I think if it called itself Hostel would be more honest.

Google
The room is insanely small. We did not pay attention to the “Bath down the hall” when we booked it. So the room has no bathroom. Eventually we upgraded to get a bathroom in the room, however the bathroom is so small. And the room in general is so small.

Yelp
Given the fairly high hotel prices in the Boston area, I was quite happy to find a very reasonable priced option in The Revolution Hotel. The entire experience from beginning to end was quite good as they kept in contact during the entire process from booking to checkout and ensured that I was enjoying my stay. For the price paid, I was happy with how nice the facilities were in both the main common areas and in the room I received. It met my needs and had good temperature control. I was especially happy with how often the restrooms were cleaned, providing a good experience despite being shared with others on the floor. I also liked the location of this hotel, not being too far from different areas like downtown and Chinatown.

Yelp
Was dining next door @ Cosmica and I guess they don't have actual bathrooms so they direct you to the foyer of the Revolution Hotel. As someone who can appreciate a clean bathroom; these are both exceptional and pristine. Not to mention having actual HOT water come out of the sinks to wash your hands and a functional foot 'clamp' on the exit door so you need not use your freshly washed hands on the door handle

Yelp
I came on a trip alone and it's important to feel safe when traveling alone. I was able to check in early and add another night to my stay with no hassle! The guy at the front desk (shorter with black hair) was so sweet and accommodating. I stayed in the loft building and felt very safe. It was very quiet and a quaint little area, very walkable. The room was good except the bed did slump on one side. The provided robes were so comfortable. There is a coffee stand in the hotel (closed at 4pm on weekdays) and a Mexican restaurant connected that stays open later which was nice. Overall I would definitely stay here again

Yelp
Located walking distance from the Back Bay Amtrak station and a short walk from attractions like the Boston Public Library and Newbury Street, this was the perfect stay for people who are looking for a decent place to stay that won't break the bank. My stay was for two nights with two people total in the room, and we stayed in a "bath down the hall" room with one king bed and a lofted twin above. The room itself can comfortably sleep 3 but with not much room to move around -- there's the TV, beds, desk, a safe, and a desk. If you're not going to be spending a ton of time in the room or have a lot of luggage, this room was still perfect. The "bath down the hall" situation is very college dorm reminiscent but super clean. There were around 5 single-stall bathrooms, and each bathroom had a shower, toilet, and sink. They were kept very clean by the staff, and each room was provided with a bag that included towels, soap, lotion, robe, and slippers. Amenities included a tiny coffee shop on the first floor, a gym, coworking space, and restaurant. Compared to some of the pricier hotels in Boston, this is absolutely a steal. Split between two people, two nights Fri-Sun only cost $183 each.

Yelp
A hip modern hotel, with plenty of restaurants within walking distance. We had a great time sitting in the patio with our dogs. The wait staff was extremely nice and accommodating. Our original room , although it had a private bath (many did not) was very small. We chose to upgrade to the Lofts in which the room was large with a nice kitchen and luxurious bath. It was so worth it! Just a note, the hotel does not have parking. Their discounted lot is a hike. We used SpotHero and found a nice lot a block away for about the same price.

Yelp
The Revolution Hotel is a nice, quiet option for short stays in Boston especially at a reasonable price. Location is great (just a 5-10 minute walk from Back Bay Station) and they have very friendly staff. There is also a cafe in the lobby, but it wasn't well staffed during my stay.

Yelp
Hotel prices in Boston are crazy! For this one, you are really paying to stay in a good location, close to the train station and walking distance to shops and restaurants. The decor was cool, they did a good job with the history art all over the place but the building still feels old and stuffy. I noticed interesting smells in the elevator and room that didn't seem to go away. The room itself is tiny, probably OK for one person but the option with one twin and one queen bed was small for 3 people. There was no room to walk around the beds so we had to find a way to place 3 suitcases underneath the desk, behind the door and next to the bed. We selected the shared bathroom which to my surprise, was not bad at all. There were many available bathroom stalls and I noticed the cleaning staff was there almost every time I would stop by the restroom. Bathrooms were good size, all of them had a sink, shower and toilet and we never had issues finding an open stall. The rooms are really close to each other so it was easy to hear the neighbors but we still managed to get a good night sleep. I think this hotel is OK but overpriced. Staff was nice and welcoming and they had a nice outdoor area that may have been part of the restaurant downstairs.

Matthew N.

Yelp
If you want claustrophobic tiny rooms, toilets from a prison cell, and no tub so your shower leaks into the rest of the bathroom, all for more than $200 a night, you have come to the right place! I would not recommend you try this place unless you miss college dorm life. Except for this price tag, you would never pay off your college debt. The highlight (and why it's a two star review) is the common work area in the basement. They have throwback Boston memorabilia, a pool table, cushioned seats and an amazing wood bar. But you still have to sleep somewhere and that somewhere is like a nice prison/mediocre dorm room. When we stayed there, you could clearly hear the neighbors next to and above your room. You could also hear all the flushes since the pipes seem to have space around the ceiling, allowing the sound to travel. Awesome vibes for a good nights rest. They also offer rooms without bathrooms (maybe for the noisy sound reason) and also luxury apartment style rooms, but that will cost you extra. All in all, a terrible room and nights sleep. Also, the restaurant on site was closed on Sunday and Monday...because who stays at a hotel on Sunday right? The coffee stand was decent though so if you want to live off caffeine they have you covered.

Yelp
Stayed here for 4 nights... clean, trendy and more of a younger crowd. Watch out when you book- alot of the rooms are hostel style - in the way you would used a shared room down the hallway . I opted for the upgraded queen bed with private bathroom. Perfect for one person. Definitely would be a lil crowded for 2 . Room with bed - and chair and desk. The bathroom has a curtain that separates from the sink/toilet and the door is a barn style door. I put a towel on the floor to keep the water from splashing out into room. Good water pressure and warm. Heat and cool air works perfect. Can't really keep privacy window screen open or else someone can see into your room from across the way. Nice natural Light otherwise but was not able to use it since I rather my privacy. Walls are thin. The girl next door came over to knock on my door so that I would use headphones to watch my laptop... lol... and it wasn't even loud. SMH. You can hear the traffic of people going to use the shared bathroom since I would hear the closing of doors frequently. Could also hear drunk people in the hallways sometimes. Otherwise it was more or less quiet at night. Small coffee ( name is kohi) counter that also sells some baked goods at the entrance in the morning to early afternoon Mexican restaurant connected called Cosmica Basement has a community basement which is cute with couches , games etc . Also has a small gym- where I saw a peloton inside. I liked the location since I'm a fan of the south end culture. 7-11 across the street if you need it About a 20-25 dollar taxi/ Uber from airport Staff is super nice and helpful

Audrey S.

Yelp
This is a solid 3.5 but I'm rounding up. The public amenities are lovely, so if you are working remotely or otherwise don't plan to be in the room much, it's great. The rooms weren't the best though - austere and small, I felt like I was staying in a glorified dorm room. Lobby area is beautiful. Loved the coffee bar, and you get a voucher for a free coffee or two during your stay. The fireplace was also a lovely touch. Downstairs they have a gym and a co-working lounge. Gym was small but solid. Loved trying out the Peloton! Co-working area was spacious and beautiful. Suited my needs very well with ample outlets and a good noise level. Rooms were very eh. Sheets were dirty on arrival and bathroom was just weird. There's no stall or lip so the water just pools on the floor. If you shower for more than 3-4 minutes, water starts seeping under the floor and into the bedroom. Would be a big problem if sharing a room and multiple people showering. Plus getting ready after showering meant walking around a flooded room. On the whole probably wouldn't stay again because of the room situation. It's a good location with good amenities and the service was nice though, so it absolutely could be worse.

Yelp
I'm local to Boston and decided to do a one night staycation at The Revolution to treat myself to a cozy and quiet night with no roommates to bother me. Unfortunately my stay and my visit was just so-so. I'm not expecting the Four Seasons but there were a few things that fell short and likely could have been prevented. Upon checking in I was told that my room would be on the mezzanine floor, a floor just between the 1st and 2nd. My stomach dropped - I could see the rooms on this floor when I looked up from the front desk. It felt like a balcony floor, completely open to the lobby and its noise. I had put in a request when I booked my room to put me in a quieter area because I am a light sleeper. I get that it might not be possible to get the room closest to the end of the hall in a higher floor, but this one just seemed like the worst option. Next, I never received a tote bag with the robe and slippers. That was something that I had seen online. Maybe I didn't get it because I was in a room with a bathroom? It seemed a little odd to me so I went up to the second floor to see if there were some in the shared bathrooms. I noticed that every single shower was in need of a clean except for one, and that one stall did not have any toiletries. Unfortunately there were no slippers or robes available. What was nice was that I also noticed a water dispenser on this floor which was great since I brought a water bottle. This was the only floor that I could access aside from the lobby and the lower level - the other floors are unfortunately locked and my room card could not access them. This is not anyone's fault but every time someone was talking in the lobby, I could hear them from my room. I could hear laughter from the front desk agents, door slams, and chatter from down the hall, the acoustics are terrible and I wish I were given a higher floored room. Needless to say, I didn't sleep as well as I wanted to Staff are friendly but it really didn't seem like they were very attentive at all. I didn't get an introduction to a virtual concierge or information on who to contact. When I got into my room I realized there was no phone (or clock). I had to go downstairs to ask for slippers and some extra shampoo and conditioner. I was given the slippers (they didn't seem like the same ones as the pictures I've seen that were included in the tote bag) but was told that the shampoo and conditioner would be sent up to my room. I never got them... I asked before 8pm and still never got any when I checked out the next morning. When I checked out I was greeted but also was not asked how my stay was. What was also odd was that the shampoo, conditioner, and lotion / body wash were 3 different brands and scents. Again, not expecting a luxury brand but I would appreciate some consistency. Overall the hotel vibes are great. It's a lovely space and I like the industrial design of the rooms. The bed and pillows are ultra comfy and I love that red and white throw that they have on the beds. Super cozy for sure. However, I wish they could do a little bit more with amenities and service. I hope the hotel reads my constructive feedback - I would be more than happy to share my in depth experiences with them if they would like to improve.

Yelp
Easy five stars for this unique find! This hotel has such a cool feel to it and really celebrates the history and culture of Boston-from the plaque explaining the name to the art installation in the lobby showcasing inventions from the city, to the artwork in the rooms. The price and location are both perfect, with plenty of things within walking distance. The common areas (lobby, coworking space, and bar) are all really nice and well-decorated. A couple tips: -not all of the rooms have bathrooms, so be sure to read the details when booking -the rooms are smaller than the average hotel room. I had no problem at all. Just wanted to give a heads up. There is storage under the bed. -parking is tough. You can pull right up to the hotel just to check in, but then you'll need to go to one of the public garages. The one at 100 Clarendon Avenue is about a ten-minute walk to the hotel, and the front desk will give you a ticket for a discount. I will 10000% stay here again if I'm in town.

Yelp
This might be a place to stay if you are under 30 years old and want a place that is trendy rather than designed for a night's rest. We stayed for two nights -- at a cost of over $360 per night. It's hard to list all the things that made this a horrible choice. The double bed was raised on a platform that was so high that I (a 6' male) had to jump to get in; pushed against the walls on all three sides, it meant that the person at the 'open' edge of the bed had to get out if the 'trapped' person wanted to get up. There were 2 small reading lights at the head of the bed - one of them wouldn't work and an electrician told us "We've been working on getting it replaced for some time." The electric plugs didn't work. The "closet" is an open space with 3 hangers. No place to put luggage in a room so small that it appears to have been modeled on a Federal penitentiary. The tiny bathroom (also requiring a step up to enter) had a shower - but when you turned on the shower, the water flowed all over the floor and out of the bathroom into the room itself. We had to build a dam out of towels to keep the floor dry. There was literally no place to sit in the room - not a single chair (and there's no room for one in any case). I've stayed in hotels all over the world -- 2 in youth hostels and tiny inns in rural Australia, Greece, and Japan. I've never been so uncomfortable in my life. Each time we found yet another design flaw that made the place barely habitable, we said, "Why in the world can they charge so much for so little?" Strongly suggest that you look elsewhere in Boston before you subject yourself to nights of discomfort and feeling ripped off.

Yelp
We stayed here for a quick night on our way to Maine and it was the best decision. We are traveling with a 10month old Aussie and wanted to stay in a nice pet friendly hotel and this hotel is it! Staff is very friendly and helpful at answering all your questions and giving us suggestions as to where to park or go eat. The hotel has a fun modern aesthetic to it, and it has an area with games, a bar, and a sitting area with booths. We stayed in a room with a king size bed and our own bathroom. The room was very clean, although it was small they did an amazing job at optimizing the space and making it comfortable for their guests. So, if you are traveling with a pup or not 10/10 recommend this hotel!

Yelp
For a nice stay in Boston during Marathon weekend, I thought this was perfect. My room was actually in the lofts which is right next door to the hotel proper. Beautiful, clean, spacious room and bathroom. There was also a fridge and small kitchenette. A few bars and restaurants within walking distance, but a little out of the way so it wasn't always bustling and busy in the area. I will definitely be staying here again.

Yelp
Updating my review: I came back on Thursday with a different girl friend, and the hotel is still everything I said and more. They still equipped the room with only one tote bag of toiletries, robes etc. However, they were quick to come back with a second bag, and this time around they did have an extra robe. The front desk is also very informative and courteous -- they even gave me a plastic fork when I forgot to get some for my takeout. I'm also glad they mentioned that Cósmica had a special event on Thursday night and will be closed since I planned on going back. I also love how clean everything is. I'm glad to be back here and will consider staying here again for future visits. It's in the heart of the Back Bay neighborhood, and it's also a public transportation accessible area. It's a short walk to the train station, and also across the street the 9 bus comes pretty frequently. I'd recommend this place to anyone visiting Boston or looking for a staycation.

Kathy T.

Yelp
If I could give 6 stars, I would! It was my first visit to Boston, and I didn't want to just stay at a generic hotel, one that looked the same in any city. This place is immaculate, amazing service, comfortable (bed is amazing) and super cool! Plus, there's an awesome Mexican restaurant adjoined that has amazing food and beverage! Can't go wrong, unless you are looking for a typical hotel with typical accommodations. This has a unique feel and far from the standard Marriott! This is, however, an adult style venue. Not for littles, so keep this also in mind if you are looking for a more adult getaway. I'll be back

Tiana E.

Yelp
The lobby is nice but the rooms are MINISCULE. They were advertised as small but it is beyond that. There were two of us in a room with a king bed and bathroom inside our room. We only had carry ons but there's barely even room to store that. The shower also didn't drain and if shares the same e space as the toilet so the whole floor would be wet.

eoghan m.

Yelp
We booked a room with four bunks at The Revolution because we weren't going to be in Boston long and prices were generally quite high elsewhere. Really, we thought we were getting a room at a hostel, with a shared bathroom... The Revolution was so much more. The shared bathrooms were near the room and each had four clean individual cubicles which each had a quality toilet, sink and shower. They were cleaned regularly. The room had everything we could want and was beautifully decorated... The decor throughout the hotel was consistent and very well thought out. There was an ethos to it. I used the gym in the morning, which was rudimentary but perfect for my needs. The location could not have been better for seeing a great city, and it's hard to believe we were able to find such a cool place there at this price.

Melissa S.

Yelp
An incredible place to stay with friends when visiting the Boston area. Most rooms are a hostel style setup with multiple bunk beds and a separate shared bathroom space. However, don't let that deter you. The bathrooms are all private single-person rooms with a sink, toilet, and shower, which are cleaned quite frequently by the staff. They also provide guests with various soaps and lotions (made with essential oils like lemongrass) that smell amazing! The hotel lobby has a small cafe with abundant seating space, which is great for a quick cup of coffee before you grab an Uber to start your day (as opposed to the typical stale hotel coffee). And they have a great coworking space in the bottom floor of the building which includes a fireplace. Very cozy! This place is quite beautiful and luxurious with very nice staff. You'll find unique facts and artifacts around the building that display the innnovations (or perhaps, "revolutionary" history) of the Boston area. I will definitely come back as it is totally worth the price. And, it is highly Instagram-able!

Lily C.

Yelp
I loved everything about the Revolution. We actually stayed in the Loft a few doors down. If you ever wondered if the photos you see a hotel uses for marketing purposes look anything like the real thing, have no fear if you're staying in the Loft. See the photos attached that I took. They look almost exactly like the photos online. I forgot to take photos of the bathroom but it looked just like my bathroom! Check in was easy breezy. The woman who checked me in was friendly and welcoming. I asked about parking nearby and she gave me the name of a nearby lot. Nearby is a relative term here. It was about a 6 minute walk. It was worth the $10 discount since it's so expensive to park in Boston. I subsequently used Spot Hero for a lot much closer for the same price. So I would recommend using the app. The room was slightly larger than a standard hotel room you might get at a Marriott with two double beds in it but waaaay nicer. They kitchenette was a huge plus. It had a full size microwave, a nice sized fridge that was actually cold, real utensils, glasses, mugs, bowls and a sink. This was a huge plus for us for snacks, drinks and leftovers. 7-11 conveniently located across the street for that late night Haagen Daz. The room itself is smartly decorated with a lovely sitting area. And windows that actually open! Another huge plus because of COVID. And the room was spotless. I brought my own Clorox wipes and Lysol but on the surface, it was very very clean. This made me very happy. The bathroom was beautiful and spacious. The towels were nice and the room was equipped with the standard travel sized toiletries. The shower was so nice, with good water pressure and temperature. I could have stayed it all day. The bed was very comfortable and the bedding was nice. Nothing fancy but soft and comfy. The robes and slippers were nice but the robe wasn't super soft. Really nitpicking here. I would 100% recommend staying here if you're looking for a hotel in Boston. It's a good walk but if you don't mind walking, it's close enough to Newbury Street, Prudential Center, Boston Commons and Faneuil Hall. I actually preferred that it was in a more residential area. It was very quiet, even with the windows open. Lots of great restaurants nearby. Pricewise, I would say it's a good value for what you get. And this is huge for me. In the last few months I've stayed in three different Boston hotels and this one was definitely my favorite.

Yelp
Front desk staff is outstanding, rooms are clean and comfortable (decor is such a breath of fresh air from the usual stuffy or generic Boston hotel) and the location is absolutely perfect! Walkable, bike-able and close to lots of great shops and restaurants.

Yelp
Quick trip to Boston and I was alittle worried about hotels/cost. I picked the Revolution Hotel which is a modern hostel. It was amazing. The bathrooms are updated and the cleaning staff keeps the clean. The beds are very comfortable. The supply a fully stocked bag of toiletries including a robe, slippers for the shower! It's also walkable to attractions. There is a restaurant attached to the hotel that has great food and drinks. When I am ever in Boston again I will definitely stay here again..

Yelp
I would have loved to see a microwave in the hallways with the water/ice/carafes. the rooms were nice & the bathroom was very spacious and clean. I did not know what to expect with a 'down the hall bathroom' but i felt comfortable.

Yelp
stayed here for a brief stay in south end- and absolutely LOVED IT. The staff and front desk are awesome and attentive, I love the decor and how lively it is. Being able to text staff 24/7 with requests or recomendaciones is literally a game changer. SUPER pet friendly- provided my boy with a bed and water and food bowl! Very modern, and super comfortable beds and set up. Would recommend for younger travelers- not so much families. The bar is great + friendly bartenders (amazing drinks too), and the rooms are cute and bathrooms were always clean. I never stayed in a communal bathroom but it wasn't bad at all, and was super private, clean and comfortable. My only complaint is there's no parking I was shocked coming from the west coast to no parking at a hotel, and the parking structures are crazy EXPENSIVE! But overall recommend and will be coming again!

Yelp
We stayed here for 4 nights. The location is perfect. The aesthetic is very cool, it gives off a swanky hostel vibe. We stayed in the king bedroom with the bathroom down the hall. There were always cleaning staff working, which was reassuring. The bathroom being down the hall was fine, it felt like a well taken care of dorm. The cafe in the lounge serves great coffee. It was nice to sit in the beautiful lobby and enjoy. Everyone was great about wearing masks and there were multiple sanitizing stations. My partner and I work remote so we relied on the WiFi which worked perfectly fine. Also loved the lower level, we used the gym quite a bit and got some work done in the downstairs lounge. The one thing I would suggest is upgrading the tv in the room. The remote felt a little sticky and it's the most basic cable/ no Netflix. Not a deal breaker though. I will be back!

Yelp
Awesome find! So glad to find this hotel for our visit to Boston. Great location and such a neat looking hotel! My husband and I with our big teenage boys stayed in a quad room. Fun. Bathrooms (4 private) across hall was not a problem. Downstairs is a great space. There's a workout room and a huge space to eat, study, play board games. This was a fun place to stay!

Yelp
I can't believe this hotel has good reviews. First of all this isn't a hotel. It's a hostel. Only a few rooms have bathrooms inside of the room which is totally unclear when you book online. The girl at the front desk just told me in some booking platforms they updated this information so I hope you read the fine print. I booked a standard room with a bathroom and we were shafted into a room with no bathroom. This is probably the worst place I've ever stayed in. Don't let the artsy decor of the lobby or website photos fool you. The rooms look like a prison and are the size of a prison cell. There are no drawers, microwave, mini fridge, closet, nada. Bathrooms/showers are down the hall. Feels like you are showering after you get out of the gym only when you shower at the gym, the water is warm. There is no warm water here. When I asked for a room change with a bathroom they claimed they were sold out. The hospitality here is sh**. Management doesn't care if you are comfortable during your stay. So do yourself a favor. Save your money because I'm stuck here for 3 nights and we are paying $910 for this piece of shit room.

Yelp
Very clean and very convenient location. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The ambiance is very comfy and modern. Has a common room area to play card game. Very good for group travel and young adults trip.

Yelp
I stayed at this hotel and had the experience of both a bathroom in my room and a bathroom down the hall. Let's first talk about the bedroom with a bathroom in it. It was honestly really convenient. However, I experienced some mishaps with a few insects in my room. Please refer to the pictures. I spoke with the front desk and they said that perhaps it was because I opened my window and let them in. However, I visited Boston in November. Coming from California, I get cold really easily -- so why would I open my window? They took no accountability, and the only good side to this was that they offered to clean my room. Also I have to say that my bathroom was kinda rusty. Again, refer to the pictures. As for the bedroom with the bathroom down the hall. This was honestly a much better experience. I recommend showering at night because it's so much cleaner since the workers are still there. If you shower in the morning, all the bathrooms are going to be in need of cleaning since all the workers don't come in until 8am to start their shift (I think). Anyways, these bathrooms are for all genders so be aware of that especially if you're a solo traveler like I was.

Yelp
I knew I was in for it as soon as my employee told me they booked me one of the rooms here with a bathroom? This place is an grossly overpriced hostel. If you like sleep as part of your life, this is not the place to be. I checked in to the Premium Suite which was all of about 100 square feet with the tiniest sink I've ever seen. None of that really bothered except that I could hear every word in their noisy lobby including all of the traffic from the youthful bar attached to the hotel from my room. I asked the receptionist to change my room and she graciously moved me to the 7th floor to the "King Suite" which was basically the size of the king bed. I was relieved for the quiet and all was good. 2:30 AM comes and I am awakened by sounds of about 30 teens or young adults yelling and partying in the hallway at the top of their lungs. It would last about 5 minutes and then they would come back sporadically every 10 minutes or so for hours. I barely slept all night. This wonderful experience cost close to $200 for the night. Business travelers, stay far away from this place if you have an important meeting in the morning.

Yelp
TL;DR - In general, I was pretty discontented during my stay and did not feel like this is good value for money. I regret not spending a little more for a more conventional hotel stay. I will never take en suite restrooms for granted again. Revolution Hotel? More like Regressive Hostel. When I was looking up this place online, many of its offered rooms had the descriptor "bathroom down the hall." So, when I came across an offered room that was more expensive than the others, without the aforementioned phrase, and that had the descriptor "classic room," naturally, I thought this was a conventional hotel room with an en-suite bathroom. Boy, I was wrong! The "classic room" *also* has its bathroom down the hall despite not having that phrase in the description and also being more expensive. My room was small, dingy, and musty, although, it generally appeared clean. Exposed electrical conduit lined the walls and decor was... less than inviting. As I saw someone else mention, it is reminiscent of a IKEA furnished college dorm room. Walls and doors offer a little soundproofing from loud hallway noises and toilet flushes. Similar can be said for the street noise entering through the windows (and I was on the seventh floor). The electrical USB outlets in my room did not function. That being said, at least both the TV and AC worked. Sheets were nice and white and without stains; pillows and mattress were comfortable enough. Beware: there is NO turn down service even if you are staying more than one night. Now for what you're likely here for, a review of the communal bathrooms. These are set up as a pod of six or seven for baths, each with a sink, mirror, toilet, shower, stool/bench, and hooks on the walls. These were...not great. The showers generally smelled of mildew and there were plenty of little spots of rust I turning the bathroom finishes. Also, the shower ceiling seemed rather low. I am only 6 foot, yet this place my face uncomfortably close to the curly pubic hair, eyelashes, and other fibers stuck to the surface above my head. And God help you if you are a shy pooper like me and have housekeeping staff chatting away feet from your opaque glass door that seems to amplify sound. Service was a little bit of a mixed bag. One gentlemen working in the evening seemed pretty unenthused and was generally unhelpful and unsympathetic. Another concierge lady during the day was more kind, friendly, and helpful. She even let me borrow a handheld steamer and had this sent up to my room. In general, I was pretty discontented during my stay and did not feel like this is good value for money. I regret not spending a little more for a more conventional hotel stay. I will never take en suite restrooms for granted again.

Yelp
If you have read other reviews you know - many of the rooms do not have in-room bathrooms. So check before you book. . . Everything else about our stay was GREAT! Location - great location. Down the street form the Boston Common Park. Other great locations like Fenway Park, TD Garden, North Side are only 10-15 min ride on the "T". The only downside is the "T" is a 10 min walk. Rooms - "Small" Half of the room was taken up by the king sized bed. Other half was bathroom. Sink / mirror was outside the bathroom. TV mounted on the wall probably 42"in? Bed was comfortable and had USB, standard power-outlets, and reading lights built into the headboard. The windows were easily opened. Large windows could be fully opened or fully blacked out. Exposed plumbing / conduit painted white fits the aesthetic of the hotel. Only weird note was the heater (in room) was controlled by the front desk. We had to request them to bring the heat up past 70, which they quickly did, but it was odd. Service - Good. Not all working were locals which is fine. They had a few recommendations but it was ok. They had an entire work/lounge area downstairs that we waited in until our room was ready. Hotel had free Wifi which was great as many larger chain hotels require you to pay. Hotel - coffee shop , gym , lounge / work area with bar. Everything in the hotel, except maybe the locks / door handles were consumer quality rather than commercial. Furniture, faucets, speakers in common area (Sonos that were just sitting on a shelf) etc. Doesn't effect your stay at all I'm just wondering if that is going affect the hotel cost in the future. Gym was good, but small had the basics - treadmill, elliptical, bike, free weights, medicine ball, mats, one bench. It would have been crowded with more that 2 people.

Yelp
This is a cute hotel in a great location. Our room was clean, comfortable and pretty with a nice view of the brownstones on the street. We stayed in the Lofts with two beds and our own bathroom. I can't speak to the other hostel part (I'm in my 50s and that did not sound appealing!). Friendly service too!

Yelp
I want to start by saying that this was a work trip so it's not like I'm in vacation mode. Check-in...was a nightmare. So I'm with two colleagues, my CEO and a peer. We get to the hotel and first we are told that we will not have bathrooms inside of our rooms. We get our key cards, and my CEO opens his room and there is someone else's luggage in the room and it's obviously occupied. So they gave us a key to enter someone else's room. K, it's a mistake, we go back down and they give us another room. We go back upstairs...its someone else's room!!! What if you were chillin naked and three dudes just walked in??? Now that being said, the bathroom was nice. It was well taken care of and they had a good system when it came to cleanliness and maintenance because basically there is always someone staffed there. You can't always have someone staffed in your room, in your bathroom. There is a small gym downstairs which was also nice. Treadmill, mats, some weights. On the other side of the gym is a little work area in case you decide to leave the room and work. There's a small cafe in the front lobby that has nice lattes. Not great, but nice. I would probably never stay here again mostly because Boston is huge and has much nicer hotels.

Yelp
Amazing spot in Boston and really worth the price! The aesthetic is very cool and trendy, with many options of stay. You can opt for a hostel-style experience and get a bunk or your own room with a shared bathroom/wash room. Don't like sharing? No problem, they have suites with in-room baths too! Plus, there's an on-site gym, a restaurant, and a cafe connected to hotel. Amazingly friendly staff. We did a queen bed w/ shared bath and it was a great experience from check-in to out. Connie, the wonderful manager, allowed us to check-in early and got us on the top floor (beautiful city view). She also helped us resolve an issue involving a double-booking. The rooms itself was small and cozy; no frills. There is a thermostat you can adjust, a small desk, TV, and shelf to hang clothes. There were many outlet plugs that ran along the bed frame. Toiletries and a robe were available, along with a small bag you can use as a shower caddy. The wash room was not far from our room and were clean. Fresh towels are there too. My biggest plus here? They have filtered water for you to fill up your water bottles + no need to go out and buy cases of water to drink! The Revolution is walking distance to attractions & activities, but also near public transportation if you prefer that instead. The staff is welcoming and helpful. This boutique, no-frills hotel has all you need to have a memorable stay in Boston. Great for the everyday traveler.

Yelp
Hotel Room: As most have said, and stated on their site - the rooms are small, but honestly the size didn't bother us... we were only there to sleep anyway. We stayed in a queen room with a connected bathroom. Please note that its a sliding barn door and if you are having a first weekend away with your new gf/bf - you will want to use the bathroom in the hallway (as the in-room option you can hear everything your partner is doing). Everything was very clean and felt very new. Wish the sink/counter space was a little bigger, but not a big deal. Lots of hooks and the bed was comfortable and setup well for the space. We could definitely hear the person in the room next to us when they were talking loudly, but couldn't hear any snoring/traffic/etc. Overall slept well. The staff was 100% the most friendly staff I've ever encountered at a hotel. Five stars. The lobby and connected coffee shop were both pleasant and cozy. The location was great for us, we found it easy to walk around the city - 15min up to the park, 5min over to the train station.

Yelp
I LOVED the Revolution Hotel and execution of the concept. It feels very hipster and industrial. The down-the-hall room with the king bed and lofted twin was perfect for a girls trip with 3 people. The shared dorm-style bathrooms were very clean and had plenty of towels. The bathrooms have the toilet, sink, & shower together, so you can do all your business at once. There was only one time that the restrooms were all full, but there's another restroom farther down the hall that was empty. The rooms were small, but thoughtfully laid out so it didn't feel cramped. The whole place looks like a Pinterest board of modern living. There were little bedside lights by each bed. I will mention though...the metal ladder up to the loft felt a bit slippery and I had slipped multiple times during my stay. Just be careful! Housekeeping was great in making a beautiful bed to return to every night. Beautiful large window offered nice nighttime views and great sunlight in the day. Location wise, it's slightly out of the way of Boston in a quieter end of town, but just like a 15-20 min walk to the main parts. It's super close to Newbury Street for shopping and yummy foods. CVS pharmacy conveniently nearby. I wish they did offer laundry services! Nearest laundromats are not too far but it's kind of a pain. Downstairs is a remote working place. Also stylish and well-designed. There is also a gym. Just a really cute place for a budget price but still really nice and new! Make sure to look into the caretaker and artist discounts if you qualify.

Yelp
Modern stylish space, kind staff, good location in South Bay. I'm knocking a star off because the bathrooms are shared on the hall, which is not clear at time of booking and odd for a hotel at this price. Fairly clean but still. They also offer a "free beverage for two" as part of the booking-- but what they mean is coffee from the small coffee stand. No coffee service in the room or meal service options. No outdoor seating. There's an attached Mexican restaurant but the bartender there told us they're unaffiliated with the hotel so you can't do a room charge or anything there. Valet was discontinued so you have to find a parking garage ($35/24 hours). For the price ($375/night in our case) I would go elsewhere where you can have a private bath.

Yelp
If all you really need is place to sleep, shower, and change, this is the hotel for you. It's clean and welcoming but the rooms are (refreshingly, in my opinion) free of frills. I will say, we paid the extra to have a bathroom in our room because I didn't have to use a communal bathroom when I was in college, and I'm not starting now. (So with that in mind, please know that everything I'm about to list DEFINITELY applies to the queen bedroom with bathroom en suite, but possibly not the other rooms) WHAT THE ROOMS HAVE - A blow dryer - A mini steamer (for your wrinkled clothes) - Hangers & a little closet pole (no closet but you don't need it!) - A safe - A little desk with drinking glasses - A full length mirror - A comfy bed with the softest pillows - A TV WHAT THE ROOMS DON'T HAVE - An ironing board (see "mini steamer") - A dresser (but how many of you have ever neatly unpacked your clothing and laid them into the dresser drawers?) - A mini fridge or microwave - A Gideon Bible We stayed in Boston for five days and four nights and this hotel was perfect for our needs. As I said, all we wanted was a place to sleep and shower; we didn't need a ton of extra space. It's located in Back Bay, which we found to be a quiet neighborhood mostly devoid of obnoxious tourists (but we were there in early March so I can't vouch for the neighborhood for the rest of the year). There's public transit nearby and we found it extremely easy to get to all the hot Boston spots from The Revolution (tip: get yourself a weekly CharlieTicket. It's $22.50 and gets you onto all the buses, subways, and trolley lines for 7 whole days). Some miscellaneous perks: we arrived around 11:30am and while check-in wasn't until 4pm, the front desk happily held our bags for us so we could grab brunch unencumbered by luggage. Then we received a text shortly before 1pm saying our room was ready! That was a nice surprise. Plus, when we checked out the front desk held our bags again when we mentioned our flight wasn't until 3pm that afternoon. I was very grateful to still be treated as a paying guest even after they really had no obligation to do so. Also, I just generally liked the "feel" of the hotel. It is modern and crisp. And as a young childless couple in our early 30s, it's nice to stay somewhere that's in our price range and still feels like it's catering to adults, and not families. I'm not a child hater by any means, but it was refreshing to stay somewhere that didn't have kids underfoot. So to wrap this up....we definitely want to travel to Boston again in the next year or so, and when we do, we will stay at The Revolution again.

Yelp
Nice hotel with cool, funky vibe. Staff were very nice and accommodating. Rooms were very clean. Note: these rooms are very small (exactly as they appear in photos). If you are ok having an extremely small room with little space then you will enjoy this hotel. Mexican restaurant attached to hotel was good for drinks and had excellent guacamole. Check out the lower level of the hotel if you want a space to hang out and play board games or table shuffle board.

Ruby J.

Yelp
Wonderful place, great stay! Close to Emerson College and perfect for group stays. It's modern, clean and efficient. 5 stars!

Yelp
I stayed at this hotel for 2 days upon moving to Boston. I was with my two roommates and shared a triple (which is a queen with a twin bunk bed) besides that, there was quite literally nothing else in the room. No dresser, no chair, no fridge, microwave, nightstand. Strictly the bed, tv on the wall and small desk. The communal bathrooms were okay but I'm not sure how often they would clean the bathrooms once they are used. The ENTIRE floor shared the bathroom and some showers didn't even work. Finding a shower at night was difficult. There was a place to get water in the hallway because there is no sink and fridge in room. This would be okay if the hotel wasn't $150+ a night but definitely do not think the rooms should be more than a $100 if your missing basic hotel "luxuries"

Kelsey R.

Yelp
perfect, perfect, perfect. My boyfriend wasn't thrilled about the shared bathroom situation but it wasn't an issue at all. There's a nook of 5-6 individual bathrooms all with showers, toilets and sinks and a door that locks; the same amount of privacy you would get in a room. Waiting for an open bathroom wasn't an issue for us either!! The property appears extremely up to date and everything worked great! The room was small but the interior design was very tasteful and the view from our room was amazing!! 10/10 would recommend.

Brandon B.

Yelp
Great location in the middle of the North and South end of Boston. The service couldn't be more friendly or helpful. Rooms and restrooms very clean. They have a little cafe and snack bar as well as a restaurant next door. If you check out early but aren't quite ready to leave they can hold your bags for you at a later pick up. Has elevator and stairs. Lower floor access with fun board games a good place to eat read a book or just hang out also with a work out area. Overall very satisfied and highly recommend!

Antonio B.

Yelp
I'm a business traveler from New York and I frequent this city often so checking in was not the issue it was the lack of information not given to me as guest and at 2am in the am there was a fight on my floor for at least one hr and because there are no phones in my room or any room I could not address the front desk about this fight ongoing in the hotel. I have no issues sharing a shower however the showers Had hair so bad hygiene here as well. My flight was cancel last minute and I shoes hotels tonight to make the reservation for this evening.

Penelope M.

Yelp
Charming, yet hip boutique hotel. Clean, comfortable, and well-designed rooms. Convenient location. I definitely look forward to our return.

Michelle L.

Yelp
Immaculate. Very helpful & friendly staff. Staff provided assistance with a challenging problem beyond expectation. A+ Convenient location.

Yelp
I did not like this hotel. We got there and they told us our room did not include a bathroom and we'd have to go down the hall for a communal bathroom and shower. Maybe I missed something when booking but that was unexpected. We asked to change rooms with a bathroom included. Our AC also was not working when we entered the room and it was 95 degrees out so we had to go back and wait in the lobby while they fixed it for another 45 minutes. The services was not good and I would not come back to stay. The hotel looked cool in pictures but the accommodations need to be improved.
