We had breakfast here two days in a row while visiting Asheville and that says a lot, because we usually love trying different spots! But the mushroom gravy biscuits were honestly the best I’ve ever had. Everything was so flavorful and comforting, the atmosphere was cozy, and the staff was super friendly. It just hit all the right notes, we couldn’t resist coming back the next morning!

Google
SUPERB! The welcoming, cozy, eclectic atmosphere immediately set the tone for such a wonderful experience. Paired with an extremely informative and friendly employee, who thoroughly answered each question I asked. I first ordered the Teddy Graham Latte which ignited childhood nostalgia while quickly making its way to the tippy top of “my favorite coffee to date” list. I then chowed down on the Turkey Melt. WOW! The sourdough bread was delectable. The overall meshing of ingredients blended together made for one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. (And ya girl was on quite a sandwich kick when pregnant with my first child…) Bottom line: The Rhu is easily one of my new favorite places and I cannot wait to be back!

I am a sucker for a good biscuit, and since I’m gluten free, that’s been very difficult to find. Enter The Rhu. I ordered the Benton’s Biscuit with egg on a gluten free biscuit, and a side order of a biscuit. My wife ordered the turkey melt on a bread. We both fell in love! The biscuit was dense, flaky, buttery, and salty. The egg and ham were perfect, and the jam on my biscuit was full of flavor. The size of the biscuits is impressive, and my wife said the gluten free and regular biscuits tasted identical. We went back the next day just to get it all again! In addition, great selection of coffee and tea options, and the cashier remembered us from the day before and asked how I liked the modification they made to my tea the day before. Plenty of seating upstairs, free water, and a nice, calm atmosphere. I just wish they would deliver all the way up to Maryland so I could get my biscuit fix!

Google
Nice food. Good variety. A bit small down stairs for seating but there is an upstairs. I had a chai matcha latte that was good and our clerk recommended I try the pastrami sandwich on a croissant and it was a hit.

We arrived in North Carolina and drove past this town. We were looking for a place for breakfast and found The Rhu. 10/10!!! I’m in love. The food was amazing, and I also loved the interior and the items they sell there.

Aleena C.

Google
First off, I loved the environment and you can tell their quality of food is very important to them. I got their breakfast sandwich with pork sausage and the sourdough biscuit was SO good and fluffy while still being a biscuit, but not as dry like one. The pork sausage is handmade and might’ve had a little too much salt in this batch, but it was still good when I took it out of the sandwich and nibbled on it with every bite of my sandwich. I also got their iced matcha and got their maple foam and house made brown sugar-vanilla syrup and this is the best matcha I have had in so long !!!

Google
Came in for lunch and a little remote work. Had the Rhueben. The bread was nicely toasted but soft on the inside, the pastrami was juicy, and the kraut and cheese were abundant and delicious. Remote work experience was good, Internet was fast, however access to outlets for power may be limited. At least downstairs, I only found two outlets near the door. Not an issue if you're not running heavy workloads on your laptop.

If you’re looking for a picnic on the parkway, you’ve found it! We ordered a picnic for two from The Rue for our anniversary trip to Asheville and it blew our expectations out of the water! My husband has a dairy allergy and he was able to enjoy delicious vegan cheese and dessert with our picnic. Ordering was easy, the spread was abundant and delicious, and the price was excellent! Thank you The Rue!!

Yelp
Wonderful little cafe tucked off the main route of traffic in downtown. Just a skip away from Patton Ave. They have a lovely selection of bakery items, we went with the S'mores PopTart. I had the biscuit and gravy(only one needed, they are huge) The wife had the Breakfast Sandhich on the most amazing sourdough English muffin! We shared a dirty chai with an added shot, because they only serve it with 1 :( Overall, 10 out if 10!
google avatar

Tara R.

Yelp
This place gets busy quickly! I love that they have gluten free options. I had their Chai and a gluten free breakfast sandwich to go. The gluten free biscuit was delicious and huge! Prices are decent and service was good. Just make sure you get lots of napkins, as it can get messy if you are trying to eat in the car.

Yelp
Quite possibly the perfect breakfast spot. Immaculate crusts on the pastries, including a wonderful quiche with fluffy fulling and a flaky, crispy, dry crust. Great cookie and homemade pop tart options, and coffee served fast and fresh. Get there early, downstairs seating is limited. Load up on pastry and start your day right!

Yelp
Man this place gets packed let me know tell you. We waited in line for so long to grab a sourdough loaf. After waiting for what felt like forever, we kindly asked one of the servers if we can just grab a loaf and gladly he assisted us right away. Everyone seemed to be enjoying their food as this place had a line outside of the door. Their loaf was so easy to cut and tasted yummy, I just do not like wheat flour strong sourdoughs. So if you are like me, then avoid. But if not, it's for you
google avatar

Yelp
The food here was excellent. They have a unique seasonal menu with lots of local ingredients. Baked goods are displayed at the counter and they have great sandwiches and soups.

Yelp
Stopped in on a tour of Asheville. Arrived at around 1pm on a brisk February Saturday, and we were able to order right away. Very quick and easy counter service, a concise and delicious menu, and incredibly friendly staff. We ordered a pastrami sandwich which came with a side salad, and the biscuits and gravy plate that included scrambled eggs and braised collard greens. Damn the flavors were fantastic in both dishes. The side salad was quite generous with numerous pickled veggies and a delicious house made dressing. They had 5 different hot sauce options which spoke to my heart in particular. The place was bright and clean and warm. Very happy with our stop and I would definitely come back!
google avatar

Yelp
Great food and greater staff! Totally forgot to check our bag for a fourth sandwich and called to see if they had it. Went back to the location and they gave me one for free. Really loved the vibes and extra seating upstairs. Definitely a cool place to stop. Try their Ube/Pineapple Pop Tart if they still have it!
google avatar

Doretta W.

Yelp
Great vibe in this off the beaten path bakery. The staff was super nice and helpful. They sell a lot of local items as well as their bakery goods. I popped in for lunch and they had quiche. Today was mushroom- gouda. The crust was amazing. I think the filling would have been as well but they were a little heavy handed with the salt. I could not finish the slice. The side salad was refreshing...lemon poppy dressing! Fresh greens, goat cheese, pickled red onions, and candied pecans. Really good!!
google avatar

Kelly C.

Yelp
There was plenty of signage when we entered so we knew where to order and that there was additional seating upstairs since there wasn't a ton of options downstairs. We ordered our coffee and sandwiches then headed upstairs to grab a table. It's an open space with lots of natural light, windows, and plants. The sandwiches were incredible and the chai latte I ordered was delicious too. Everything came out in good time and there's a clearly marked busing station to return dishes.
google avatar

Yelp
CUTE space with so many baked goods and great healthy and indulgent options. Staff is so kind. You can't go wrong. English muffins, bagels and biscuits look sooo good, it was hard to choose! Lots of seating, quiet atmosphere. We will be back!
google avatar

Jen K.

Yelp
Super cute spot. The egg sandwich was one for the memory books! Quick friendly service
google avatar

Camryn H.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing customer service with DELICIOUS food. A large majority of the pastries are gluten free and are so good- which can be so hard to find in a bakery. We got the homemade GF strawberry poptart & homemade GF oatmeal cream pie. Both were AMAZING. Also got a gluten free biscuit with a side of cream cheese. Wow. That biscuit is something of dreams! Salted perfectly, such a good flavor & texture and also comes warm. Cannot say enough good things about this place! It was also so cute inside, and had such a cute theme. Next time I am in Asheville, will definitely be returning. 10/10 for us gluten free folks!

Yelp
This place is so cozy! We loved the vegetarian options and the drinks were so creative. Staff very friendly. Would highly recommend.

Yelp
I enjoyed a very delicious breakfast at this place. I had the breakfast sandwich which came with egg and bacon on a GF biscuit. I'm super happy to have found this GF biscuit because it was the most delicious I've had since having a regular one. My mom enjoyed a biscuit with butter and jam and was very satisfied with the simplicity and flavor. They have a nice selection of breakfast items and coffee drinks. They also have various pastries and a section to purchase pantry items such as jams and sauces. Even fact dog treats! The space is a bit small and there can be a bit of a line but it's worth the wait. There is seating on the second floor as well and service is fast and friendly. Definitely recommend.
google avatar

Emily S.

Yelp
Amazing homemade English muffin breakfast sandwiches!! Great service and cute atmosphere.
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
Great English muffins! It tasted like sourdough and went well with the blackberry jelly! The perfect mid-hike snack! The bagel was good too- tbh it tasted the same- like sourdough! Would highly recommend!

Yelp
Stopped at the Rhu on my last morning in Asheville. They have a variety of baked goods, breakfast sandwiches, oatmeal, and coffees/lattes/cappuccinos. I went with the seasonal blueberry danish and had it warmed up. Paired the danish with their locally made Appalachia Chai latte. It really hit the spot on this cool morning. Service was quick and with a smile, and even though the order line was long, it moved quickly. The vibes were very cute and quaint, with potted plants adorning the shop and seats by the window, which is where I picked to settle down. They also have other items for sale like their signature Rhu tee shirt, jams, jellies, sauces, and even wine! The only thing that I will suggest is find where you're going to park before you go. I ended up snagging a metered parking spot up the street from the coffee shop.

Yelp
What a rare gem we walked into while exploring beautiful historic downtown Asheville. From the building itself to freshly baked bread (including Gluten Free), to unique gourmet sauces on breakfast sandwiches
google avatar

Whitney R.

Yelp
Stopped in for breakfast and coffee and immediately were happy to see all the gluten free options! My boyfriend has celiac and said this was the best gluten free biscuit he's ever had. The cold brew and cappuccino were delicious and came out super quickly. I got a breakfast sandwhich on an everything bagel which was also fabulous. The woman who took our order had to be the friendliest person I have ever met. She was amazing! Highly recommend stopping in if you're looking for a quick bite or some coffee.
google avatar

Joshua H.

Yelp
A solid breakfast sandwich but nothing groundbreaking. Good spot for a quick bite in downtown Asheville.
google avatar

Annabelle P.

Yelp
The place was amazing! The coffee was delicious and we also got oatmeal and cinnamon roll which were both very very good. The service was pretty quick despite the long line. I enjoyed The Rhu and I will definitely come back if I am ever in Asheville again.
google avatar

Nat J.

Yelp
Absolutely love everything about this coffee shop. The coffee, the homemade pastries and food, the ambiance, the staff - it's all good!! First stop on my list whenever I am in Asheville.

Yelp
We were meeting up with friends that got to Asheville much later than expected, so we were "in between" time to be eating. We had originally wanted to eat at Rhubarb, but they were only open for dinner so we decided to give the Rhu a try. Their menu is fairly limited with mostly sandwiches or biscuits. It's a small space with just a few of tables, but you can also go upstairs where they have probably 6 to 8 more tables. As for us, we ordered our food and found a little table at the back. We ordered the Ruben & chips. Unfortunately, they were out of chips, lol. But let me tell you about this Ruben... I'll preface things by saying that I love Rubens. If it's on the menu, I will order it almost everywhere and anywhere. (the only other sandwich I get this enthusiastic about is a monte Cristo). The Rhu has possibly the best Reuben sandwich that I have ever had the pleasure to eat. The pastrami is sliced, thin and smoked to absolute perfection. I didn't even miss the chips. at.all. Everyone at the table agreed because we all got Rubens! Haha. Fabulous sandwich & friendly service, no frills location. Definitely a do-over.

Yelp
Came by The Rhu on a Monday morning to grab coffee and a light breakfast before heading out of town. We came in around 9:15AM and it wasn't all that busy. The Rhu is a cute small place with not a whole lot of seating but most are just grabbing coffee so not a real need. Now I'm not really a coffee drinker so I was just here for breakfast. They have a lot of pastries and a few hot options. They did have Biscuits and Gravy, well technically Biscuit and Gravy so that's what I went with. The Dirty South Biscuit also sounded good coming with Pulled Pork, Pimiento Cheese, Seasonal Greens, B&B Pickles but that's what Ashley ordered so wasn't going to double up. Within 15 minutes our food was ready. The biscuit was fresh and clearly homemade which I liked. I will say though the sausage gravy was flavorful but a little thin in my opinion. I was also pricy at $9.50 for one biscuit and sausage gravy. I would probably come back if I was more of a coffee drinker but with not a lot of options for hot breakfast food I probably will not be back unless Ashley really wants to.

Yelp
Amazing breakfast items! Tasty bagels, great egg sandwich, and fast, friendly service

Yelp
Food tours are always on the list when we travel because it's such a great way to visit many spots and try a variety of meals. With so many amazing restaurants in Asheville, I highly recommend @eatingasheville High Roller Tour. The Rhu graced us with this delicious sweet tea and homeade sausage + pimento cheese biscuit. This biscuit had the perfect texture and the sausage was local, had tons of spices and herbs which balanced out the creamy pimento cheese. Can't wait to go back for more pastries and baked goods!

Yelp
OH EM GEE!! This place has some of the best biscuits I have ever tried in my life. I came here for the first time last year during a food tour where they gave us a sampling of their breakfast sandwich of a sausage patty on a homemade biscuit and I guess thats where you can say I fell in love. A year and a month later I return here for my 24th birthday as I have been thinking about this biscuit for that past 13 months and was determined to get it for my special day. The special day finally comes and I order the dirty south biscuit for my birthday and a latte with their homemade brown sugar vanilla syrup. My boyfriend conveniently tells them it's my birthday and asks them to write it on the cup in place of my name. I for sure thought it would be a paper cup with my name on it but when they call my name i realized they wrote "happy birthday" on one their store mugs in marker! How sweet! And the barista even drew a flower on the cup as well. Of course the sandwich was just as great as it was the year before, maybe even better since I haven't ate a biscuit as amazing as that since the year prior. I will continue to return to The Rhu every trip to Asheville and I recommend you do the same if you're looking for your life to be permanently altered by a biscuit.

Lindsey G.

Yelp
Amazing food and coffee! Get the cortado. It was smooth and delicious. Cute little coffee shop for afternoon lunch.
google avatar

Sophia N.

Yelp
I came in on a Tuesday for lunch and I ate a pastrami reuben and drank a cold brew. The sandwich was really salty and the coffee was ok but nothing spectacular but I was surprised that my tan came out to about $20 for that. I found it to be overpriced compared to the quality of the food served and will probably not return for that reason. The ambiance on the other hand was nice. There is additional seating upstairs but I chose to sit by the window. I think there is wifi but I wasn't staying long enough that I wanted to ask for the passcode.
google avatar

Allison M.

Yelp
This sweet and classy downtown spot isn't cheap but its a winner. Incredible find in time for national bagel day Jan 15th. Hint hint. Plenty of parking nearby- mostly paid unless you want to walk a bit. Small little shop but some cozy spaces to sit and sip or snack. Upon entering you notice that a ton of local goods are being displayed and sold. They have jams and cheeses and wines and so many other pricey but chic Home and pantry items that would make a good gift or splurge. The pastry case was full of delicious looking goods. I decided to settle on a standard- cinnamon roll. Actually felt like it was a bit dry. Did appreciate that the staff packaged it so nicely. The coffee was pretty good. They used my reusable mug and filled it full. The Sammy was awesome. The everything bagel had so much variety it was like a roller coaster in my mouth. The veggie sausage was crumbly but amazing- chock full of flavor. Total win. The aesthetics of this place are wonderful too. Lots of botanicals (be still my heart) and plants with low lighting. Loved it.

Yelp
There's a good reason Rhu makes it on the top of several lists: *Best coffee shop *Best coffee shop to get work done *Best coffee shop for breakfast There are a few good coffee shops in Asheville and Rhu makes it to the top bc of their stellar breakfast options. They have a breakfast sandwich that you can have with animal meat Or a vegetarian option with a house made quinoa patty, eggs and cheese OR make it vegan. The Biscuit can also be gluten free! The biscuit was perfectly moist on the inside, lightly crisp on the outside, well balanced density and did not fall apart. With so many delicious options, Rhu will be my go-to recommendation. We found Rhu bc it made it on the list of best places to work and the blog was right. There are two levels with different seating options, lots of windows so you dont feel like youre in a dark closet, & plenty of outlets. Love Rhu. Will be back again and again.

Yelp
A nice coffee shop in downtown Asheville with friendly vibes and a memorable breakfast sandwich -- what's not to love?! I was in need of something to eat and somewhere to work remotely, and this checked both boxes perfectly. Their classic breakfast sandwich was recommended by the staff and was SO good. The English Muffin put it over the top for me. Also got a cold brew (despite already being seriously caffeinated), and an almond butter cookie because why not? It was great to set up by the big front window and work while watching people go by downtown. Oh and bonus, the restrooms were really nice here as well. All in all, a good find and I see why people love this local spot.

Nick N.

Yelp
Small menu but insanely good! The southern biscuits and gravy with collard greens were absolutely incredible. My wife is GF and they had the best GF biscuit she's ever had and they also had GF sausage gravy. Great service and fantastic breakfast. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I have 4 hours before I can go to my AirBnB so I did a search on the best places to work in Asheville and this came up. It is a great place to work with a big upstairs and plenty of outlets and seating. The staff is very nice. Getting my gluten free breakfast sandwich was mindbendingly slow - I watched the workers talk and take for-e-ver to give me the sandwich they were holding, and it is incredibly delicious. I've never had a gluten free biscuit this good before. I also took the cheese off the sandwich to make it dairy free and it was still absurdly good. The dirty chai is pretty good too, there is free water, free games upstairs, and lots of little Asheville knickknacks to buy while waiting for your food and drink. I did get a little grouchy while waiting, ha, but other than that I'd say this is a phenomenal place and I would love to come again and just plan for a long wait ahead of time. :)

Yelp
The best bagels, ever! Super fresh and yummy and quality! Best bagels outside of New York City! The everything bagel as a breakfast sandwich was so good! The salted caramel danish was amazing! Also a super nice surprise to see Cooper Manning there!

Yelp
Everything I had was great! A peach jam braid, brioche doughnut, oatmeal crepe cookie, and rhubarb filled pop-tart

Yelp
What is there really to say about The Rhu except that they really do make the best breakfast in all of Asheville. I'm such a fan of all their baked goods. You would never even know that my wife's Breakfast Sandwich was made with a gluten free biscuit (by request) because of how decadent and authentic it tasted. Not too mention that delicious bacon and thick cut scrambled egg mmm mmm mmmmmm. But y'all my Pastrami Bagel Sandwich on the Everything Bagel was truly well..... everything!!!' Housemade Pastrami, egg and cheese, on one of the best bagels I ever had in my life definitely cured my hangover in minutes. Did I just say that out loud. Skip the lines at the fru-fru brunch spots and grab an epic breakfast sandwich at The Rhu!

Daniel M.

Yelp
What more could you ask for a casual breakfast? We had the cinnamon roll to start and it's my dream of a cinnamon roll. Subtly sweet and freshly baked that morning. Excellent coffees and breakfast sandwiches. We had the main, one with bacon and one with sausage. The fluffy and hearty English muffin and seasoned eggs with garlic aioli were the star of the show, which is an achievement considering they were paired with bacon and sausage!
google avatar

Tiarra T.

Yelp
I had to stop at the Rhu when I was downtown. I read multiple reviews on the sausage breakfast sandwich. It was a rainy Sunday morning, which saved me from the enormous crowds that are mentioned in other reviews. The shop is adorable and cozy. The selection of pastries was great. I wanted to try them all. Their almond croissants were enormous. I ordered the banana nut muffins and the sausage biscuit. The sausage is made in-house, and you can choose bread to put it on (biscuit, egg muffin, etc.). It was delicious, and it tasted "from scratch," which I liked. I also ordered an iced coffee, which paired well with my sandwich. The muffin was soft, moist, and tasty as well. Can't wait to try their sister restaurant upstairs!
google avatar

Emilie M.

Yelp
We visit Asheville annually and this is our "regular" spot. Love the baked goods (the holiday cookies were excellent)! From biscuits and breakfast sandwiches to cinnamon rolls to trail bars to croissants, we haven't had anything we didn't like. Plus, they serve PennyCup coffee, one of our favorite Asheville roasters. Can't wait until next year.
google avatar

Ali C.

Yelp
Great breakfast/lunch spot with breads, quiches and bakery items made onsite. When you walk in the smells hit you and you immediately want it all from savory to sweet. So many options and they let you customize. The veggie quiche with salad greens was awesome and filling. I enjoyed a matcha. It is a relaxed vibe with seating on a couple of floors. Make sure to go for breakfast. Enjoy!
google avatar

Steve P.

Yelp
Probably the best dirty chai latte I've ever had! Pastries were so good and the breakfast sandwich with sausage all looked and tasted like it was made from scratch. Employees and service was great, loved the design of the inside with all the brick walls and even multiple levels for plenty of seating. Thank you Mackie for the hospitality!
google avatar

Nisha C.

Yelp
This coffee shop line was literally out the door! My husband and I visited on a very cold Sunday morning for some drinks & grub before we headed back home, and we waited in line for literally 20 minutes. The line before us and after us was never-ending. I ordered an everything bagel with plain cream cheese and a lavender hot latte. My husband ordered a sausage breakfast sandwich. The coffee was good and the sausage breakfast sandwich was good. The bagel was terrible. It was super chewy, and my teeth hurt after a few bites. They also put fennel seeds on their everything bagels which made the bagel taste minty and I did NOT enjoy that. The wait between ordering food and getting the food took FOREVER. We waited literally over 30 minutes. Overall, it was a good spot but don't recommend on busy weekend mornings.
google avatar

Marshal C.

Yelp
Wow! Heading home from a relaxing weekend in Asheville with the twins and we discovered this gem a few short blocks away from our hotel in downtown. Parking wasn't that bad, there is a larger lot beside of The Rhu. I sent my husband in with my wishlist and he was in and out so quickly I almost didn't believe that he went inside at all. The speed of the service and quality of the freshly prepared food was the key to my happiness while traveling back home. I ordered an oat milk latte and it was so delish that I considered eating the cup; ha! I had the sausage and gravy over a biscuit. Nom nom. If you are in the area and want a great, quick option for breakfast then The Rhu is a must! They had lots of people also inside who were easing into their morning with a hit cup of coffee. If you're in a rush or want to enjoy a slow morning, The Rhu is for YOU!! Happy eating.
google avatar

Marcia S.

Yelp
I had a Rueben based on reviews I read on Yelp and I was not disappointed. I waited on a fairly long line that was next to a delicious looking selection of pastries. It was hard not to get one, but I stuck to my decision to get the Rueben. It was decadent and yummy but so big that I could only eat half. There were a few places to sit downstairs, but I was with a large group and we had plenty of seating upstairs. The staff person taking my order was friendly and helpful.
google avatar

Emma C.

Yelp
Quick visit to Asheville and we were looking for a breakfast sammie. Google suggested Rhu was within walking distance, so we stopped in. The line made it clear this spot was worth waiting for. I opted for a dirty chai and breakfast sandwich on one of their house made biscuits. Wow. So hearty and buttery! It was too much for one sitting- honestly could/should have split. Hubby got another breakfast sando with pastrami, on an everything bagel. Wowzers! We also grabbed a chocolate chip sea salt cookie and had that hours later. That was a show stopper. 10/10 would go again!

Yelp
I'm writing this after my third visit. The first time I spend $40 on two egg sandwiches and two large coffees. I waited awhile but I was hopeful that the egg sandwiches would have been worth the wait. The cashier was less than desirable. And poorly educated on the ingredients used to make certain pastries. There was so much egg on the bagel and the mustard used on the sandwich was so pungent it made my nose run. The second time I ordered a iced coffee with only a pump of Caramel. I received the coffee with I'm assuming whole milk in it? Which I don't drink. I sat back down and realize she never handed me my pastry. I got back up and had to ask her for the pastry and she responded " oh yeah" when I asked her for it. The location wasn't even busy. I sat down and tried to do some work and couldn't help but over hear her say " I'm not sure what's in it" and " I think there is dairy" to a few customers. I think for the price you're paying for these items maybe have an educated staff so they're a little knowledgeable on products? Not to mention the lack of enthusiasm. It pains me to say it this because it's in a great location and I had high hopes, but I don't think I will be returning. Update - I went back to the counter because I was going to just throw out the coffee . A new cashier was there I explained the coffee issue. He explained that the caramel has cream in it because they make it in house then said they other two syrups didn't have any dairy. He was really kind and made me a new iced coffee right away. He definitely saved my mood so I'll leave the 3/5
