Jay Rayner Is Pained By the Squandering of Ingredients and People’s Time at Farm Girl Cafe | Eater London

"A lavish, theatrically luxurious fine-dining experience that deliberately courts opulence and amusement. Dishes include freshly grated Périgord truffle falling over baked celeriac like a snowdrift of luxury, turbot dressed with a dramatic champagne-and-caviar sauce, and an over-the-top chocolate soufflé described as an almost carnal climax; the room’s flamboyant pastel décor, cheeky, tailcoated staff and deliberately Instagram-friendly touches contribute to a democratic, princess-or-potentate feel. Despite (or because of) its excesses, the meal reads as knowing, fun and unabashedly rich — a Michelin-starred house that revels in indulgence." - George Reynolds

Google
Great costume shop with a decent amount of mix/match items to create the outfit you need. Their entry way boasts a ton of unique cards for different occasions and they have lots of accessories as well. They work on an "all sales final" structure and also will rent some pieces. Prices are a little higher than the bigger costume stores but the quality of items is good. Definitely stop in and check them out!

Google
Amazing costume shop with both rentals and items for sale. Friendly staff truly make this a gem. Small businesses are always the best, and this store certainly proves this to be true. If you are looking for an amazing addition to your costume for Halloween, or just a small odd gift for a friend, you should visit The Ritz!

Google
I was underwhelmed. Having been part of theatre much of my life I had an expectation that wasn't really met. The costumes were all the same type. The Ritz struck me as the perfect place to go if your sorority or fraternity were having some sort of retro or sparkle party, but we were unable to put basic components together for a couple of well-known super villains for a high-end Halloween party this year.

Google
This place is awesome! The clothes are so funky and cool and the people who work there are so kind! Shoutout to the wonderful employee from Iceland who was so helpful and gave me great Boulder recs!

Google
Great small business costume shop. Friendly staff, great atmosphere, and wide selection for both rental and retail. Certainly worth a visit if in the area.

Google
I went here last week with some friends. It's a very neat place. The reason for three stars; the quality isn't that amazing, and the prices are higher than you'd find somewhere else. However, this could just be because it's on Pearl Street. It is a lot of fun!!

Google
Margret & Lexi just knocked it out of the damn park ! The Ritz has always been a go to, but today I needed to accomplish 2 very important costumes for New Orleans Mardi Gras, and these two crushed it! Well done ladies, you were gentle in your encouragement, you helped me get the perfect looks. This is why I support local small costume shops! Stop the Amazon trash, and visit ypur local amazing businesses! Let these girls get you ready! Cheers girls!

Google
Incredible shop with amazing shop! Walking through the front doors feels like you are walking into a magical world, and everyone there is so nice and friendly! An incredibly kind and helpful young woman with long blonde hair that sparkled (possibly named Margo?) helped me and in addition to being likely the best costumer I have ever met in my life, brought sunshine to the store and made the whole experience so wonderful! Will be back for all my costume needs, or maybe even just to feel the wonderful ambiance of the shop and the incredible people who work there!

Yelp
I sent an email to the Ritz asking if they have Renaissance costumes. We were having problems parking. The app drove us crazy but Boulder has changed that so we drove in and met with the Icelandic woman who had answered the email. She gave us, my husband and me, All of her attention, advice, and even Help dressing in fantastically, gorgeous Renaissance outfits We are going to a wedding in July. We are both over 65. We met doing a play at nomads theater in 1986. We do feel pretty old most days. But in our outfits, we feel fantastic. It was my husband's 69th birthday. He will look about 50 at the wedding. We had a great time, trying on clothes and talking about Iceland Our nephew who is getting married and his partner spent a month in Iceland after my husband, and I told them how fantastic it is We love the Ritz. Customers get the royal treatment. The workers there truly care. There is such a great variety of clothing, hats, and accessories You can't go wrong shopping there

Yelp
This is a really cool store. My friend brought me into town while I was visiting so we could get some items to go out. Wow and I mean wow. This place has some items with that wow factor. Shiny, sparkly, a little funky is what this place has and I love it. My friend bought a red blazer with some silver and gold, it was so cool. I bought this chainmail top which was really awesome and fit perfectly. The girls working were really fun and cool and laughed along with us trying on our items. In addition to clothes they have lots of costume type items and wigs. A great spot to come in looking for things if you have themed event or want an outfit that people will remember you buy. To this day the chainmail shirt I got here is one of my favorites but the bad news is the day I bought it and wore it to go out, it broke! We had to use safety pins which doesn't look so great if you see the shirt from the back. I'm forever trying to find a new shirt that fits like that one but have yet to find it.

Yelp
Wow! What a great place to visit. I am a Magician and The Ritz carries a large variety of costumes. What I like most is everything is quality and does not feel like a costume but instead like quality clothing. I recommend anyone in the Bolder area visit just for the experience... Awesome!

Yelp
Both creepy and fanciful, they sell cute and slutty girl wear, and also rent and sell costumes. friendly fun , plasticy. A good place to find a silly greeting card too. Fairly pricy

Yelp
I've probably been in here 10 times and never bought anything. Why? Almost everything is prohibitively expensive. It's kind of a shock actually, because the place looks casual and costumey with a small stock of so-called 'normal' outfits as well. Then you pick up a cute, plain blue t-shirt or something and the price tag says $90! There's never anything especially special about the t-shirt! It's just $90. For no reason. However, if you're looking for costumey stuff and have cash to spare, the Ritz does have an extensive selection of really neat costumes that won't fall apart the day after Halloween (or Toga Night, or Cowboy Night, or Pretty Princess Night, or whatever). If you have some kind of dress-up party HABIT, then the Ritz might be the place for you. I, personally, don't see the need for a really high-quality expensive mermaid costume that will last a lifetime, because how many times in my life am I going to need to dress up as a mermaid??

Yelp
So glad a friend tipped me off to this great costume place in Boulder, as the combination of their great staff, huge store, and amazing offerings made my Halloween an even better experience. Staff was friendly, knowledgeable, terrific interpersonal skills, and outstanding customer service. Had gone to a couple.other places and zero comparison, the bar is THAT high. My baseball-themed costume got positive reviews as a result of this great store. Won't look elsewhere as long as I'm in Boulder!

Yelp
Ran in here on Halloween night to buy a wig for a last-minute costume. I came because a friend suggested it as the only place that would still be open, and I was relieved to see they had a pretty big selection of wigs. Imagine my shock, however, when my total came to $50. For a cheap pink wig? Really? As another reviewer mentioned, the Ritz definitely does not give off a boutiquey, expensive vibe, so if you don't know what you're getting yourself into the prices can come as a pretty big shock. Although their selection of costumes was okay, many didn't look like anything special and were still extremely expensive. Maybe I'm missing something, but for me $150 is too much to spend on a moderately creative costume I'll probably just wear once.

Yelp
Overpriced, kitschy, limited in choices, but one of the only games in town and I swear you will end up there at least once of four times a year buying something markedly silly for a markedly silly party that is acting as a markedly silly excuse for getting down and dirty and pleasuring one another having to use the excuse of booze and costume themed parties that force you down to said reviewed store for something silly. Four Stars for being part of an endless cycle.

Yelp
This place is getting a lot of flak for being "shockingly" expensive... but to be honest that is pretty obvious simply from its location. However, the quality of their costumes seems a step above halloween stores, and often you can RENT a costume... I rented a Renaissance shirt for a Zorro costume for only $15... which is less than I'd spend buying a super cheap looking one. Rent, don't buy!

Yelp
This place certainly has a cool variety of costumes but it is not quite my favorite costume place... I was only here once because I was looking for clothes with the Lip Service brand. This brand usually has goth type clothes in its line. I looked on the back of the Lip Service catalog and it said this place had this line. When I got there they did not have this line in stock...but they did have a few Lip Service clothes for rent. Rent?! I have heard of renting costumes but for Lip Service?! No thanks I will pass. So gotta get back to Denver before Fashionation closes for the night.

Yelp
I don't remember the 2 lady's that helped us today but they were awesome. They know how to treat a customer! Keep up the good work Ladies!
google avatar

Alicia J.

Yelp
Really, really expensive. The only thing I was impressed by was the selection of Manic Panic hair dye, as they seemed to have the entire line, even the discontinued colors. Even then, they charge $13 for a tub when Sally's has them for around $9. Was downright shocked at the clothing - took a peek at a sales rack and saw a pair of plain cargo type pants for $250!!!!! Oh, hey, crazy town. If I wanted to spend that kind of money, I would at least get a brand I've heard of. But, its an interesting shop to browse, and the salespeople have always been helpful and nice.

Yelp
Buyer beware. All sales are final on anything that may be costume related, which is pretty much everything. They do not tell you this upon check out. They hope you read a little 3"x5" index card that says this. Which most do not. You can get store credit, but you cannot get your money back. Go to Walmart or Spirt costumes. At least is you change your mind you can get your money back.
google avatar

Kate Marie G.

Yelp
I love the things they sell, but holy crap it's expensive. Even their sale racks are ridiculously pricey.

Kate D.

Yelp
This is the most fun place in the world!! There is so much to see and do! I have bought every Halloween costume there, and I have never been disappointed. The employees are so creative with costume ideas, and they actually let you try on all the costumes even the ones that come in packages. It is a little pricey, but if you care about your costume, this is the place to go! The 'normal' clothes they sell there are very cute, and unique. You will not see them anywhere else. This place is definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
Awesome rentals and great last minute purchases for parties. I rented a flapper girl costume for a whole weekend for $20. They have EVERY costume option you can think of!

P P.

Yelp
Amazing amazing amazing we have come all the way from Los Angeles just to shop at The Ritz for Halloween costume's, you get what you pay for. The costumes are one-of-a-kind. The quality and the personal attention you receive from the staff is exemplary.

Julie A.

Yelp
I rented a 1950's Hat from this store and was told I needed to pick it up the day before my event. I came last night to pick up the hat at 7:00PM and the store was closed. The store hours on the website and the front door stated 8:00PM.....so I had to go to the costume party incomplete as a result. I did not receive a phone call that they would be closing early, nor was there any signs stating that they did. BUMMED and NOT COMING BACK!

Maddy T.

Yelp
I hate shopping for Halloween costumes! Although when I walked into the store and asked for help everyone was so enthusiastic. One employee in particular, Sarah was outstanding. My friend tried on 10-15 wigs and was being a tad high maintenance. Sarah had no problem climbing up and down the ladder to make sure my friend was happy. She also made excellent suggestions regarding what products to get!! These people know there stuff! Great experience and great costumes for Halloween!

Yelp
I have bought items in this store 3 times....each time, an issue with both the stated price and the way the sales personnel has dealt with it. I bought a purple wig, the tag on the wig said $19.99, when I went to buy it, the cashier said ' oh ya, this is wrong, it's actually $59.99' Ok, well then why does it have a tag that says $19.99?? Stupid me, I really wanted the wig and went ahead and paid what she said. Last Halloween, I brought a pair of fishnet stockings to the cashier, this particular pair didn't have a price tag, I had seen several other similar pairs that were priced at $10, when mine were rung up......$23!!! I said, 'you know what, I think I will grab one of the other pairs that were much cheaper!' The cashier said, 'oh well, I already ran your credit card through, there is nothing I can do!' I was truly speechless, I have worked in retail, and I am really ashamed to say I just accepted this as ok. I will NEVER go to this place again nor give them another cent! Ridiculously overpriced and absurdly BAD customer service!! In the past they have had a good selection of costumes......DON'T pay their prices, shop Amazon or one of the many Halloween stores that pop up in September!

D R.

Yelp
This could be a fun store...except for the people that work there. The items that you can find stashed at this store are fun and definitely spark the creative flow for putting together a fun costume, but the staff members take all the fun out of the store completely. Staff generally out number the customers 3 to 1 but find themselves to involved with talking to each other to help any of the customers. Moral of the story, there are other stores, with more helpful staff (that are in general more happy) to visit! Use this store as a last resort for all of your costume needs.

Sarah Z.

Yelp
I love The Ritz! I have been coming here for years and can always rely on these guys to keep me outfitted in funky unique clothes I'll wear for years to come. It's a great place to shop. Great costumes, too!

Dave K.

Yelp
They have a really unique selection of costumes, but it's super expensive. I come here strictly for the greeting cards. They always have something hilarious that doesn't look like it came from Walmart.
