10 Chicago Bars for Refreshing Summer Cocktails | Eater

"Does it get any swankier than the Ritz? Settle into a comfortable seat on the rooftop and gaze out at the turquoise waters of Lake Michigan with a drink in hand — perhaps an Antigua Boulevard, made with Zacapa Rum No. 23, passionfruit, Lillet Blanc, and orange bitters. Savor this moment. You’ll want to remember it once it gets cold again." - Vox Creative

The 31 Best Hotels in Chicago

"With a Magnificent Mile location, loads of amenities, and access to food and drink options that draw in the locals as much as guests, the Ritz-Carlton feels plugged in while still offering a welcoming home base. The lobby is energized by a glass-roofed café area that serves as a coffee shop by day and a special drinks spot by night—with views of the city lights. There's also an Italian restaurant with a handsome bar and, in summer, a rooftop lounge that looks up to 875 N. Michigan Avenue (formerly the John Hancock Building) next door. It's a great location for exploring the city and a cosseting base to retreat to when exhausted." - Elaine Glusac, Nicole Schnitzler

The Ritz-Carlton, Chicago

"How did it strike you on arrival?Swanky luxury hotel updated by contemporary art and design. What’s the crowd like?Status-conscious crossed with business-minded. The good stuff: Tell us about your room.Rooms have a residential ease; even the smallest ones have a sofa and desk beside the picture windows (some face the lake, but even the city view rooms offer good looks at the surrounding buildings). We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?Down duvets are super cozy. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Anything worth mentioning?Covetable Nespresso coffee machines and generous supply of coffee capsules. Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down.Generously sized bathroom with marble vanities, enveloping terrycloth robes, and slippers. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word?Good wifi and included in the rate. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you.The lobby is energized by a glass-roofed café area that serves as a coffee shop by day, special drinks spot by night, with views of the city lights. There's also an Italian restaurant with a handsome bar and, in summer, a rooftop lounge that looks up to 875 N. Michigan Avenue (formerly the John Hancock Building) next door. The full-scale fitness center offers a daily slate of group classes. What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay?Great Magnificent Mile location for exploring the city, and a cosseting base to retreat to when exhausted. Bottom line: worth it, and why?Loads of amenities and access to food and drink features that draw in the locals, as well as guests, make this hotel feel plugged in." - Elaine Glusac

The best hotel, great location, big rooms with nice views , we had it looking the lake . Beds and pillows very comfortable. Super elegant, classy design and decorations , very clean , good supply of coffees, teas and water in the room. Bars and restaurants have fancy, gourmet food, nice rooftop bar. We enjoyed the nice pool and gym. It was worth every penny to spend time in this hotel. Many thanks to all staff.

I stayed at the Ritz-Carlton Chicago in November 2024, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. We had two rooms — a corner king and a connecting room with two double beds. Both were spotless and incredibly comfortable. The linens and robes were luxurious, and the beds were perfect for a restful stay.||What really impressed me was the housekeeping team. Somehow, they always knew when we were out for an extended period, and like magic, we’d return to beautifully cleaned and refreshed rooms.||The amenities were equally fantastic. We thoroughly enjoyed the pool, gym, and steam rooms — all well-maintained and relaxing.||We were also upgraded to the Club Level, which turned out to be the highlight of our stay. I was traveling with a very hungry 20-year-old, and the Club Lounge did not disappoint! They served fresh, high-quality food throughout the day — from poached eggs and pancakes in the morning to sushi, steak and fish in the evenings. Every meal was delicious, and the service was top-notch.||I especially want to mention the gentleman who worked the mornings at the Club Lounge during our stay — I regret not getting his name ( weekend of Nov, 7 2024.) He was kind, welcoming, and genuinely fun to chat with. You could also order any cocktail, and everything was included. The Club Level upgrade was completely worth it. The set up was roomy and just over all AMAZING. ||After staying here, I also visited the Ritz-Carlton in Boston, but it honestly felt more like a standard Marriott by comparison. The Ritz-Carlton Chicago truly stands out. I can only hope to return soon.||Thank you, Ritz Chicago, for such a memorable stay!

We’ve been going to this hotel for many years on and off, since before it was even a Marriott flag! Many people forget that the Ritz Carlton was at its inception a Four Seasons property. The Ritz has for decades been one of the gems of the Magnificent Mile. The fact that its neighbor, Water Tower Place, is a shadow of its former self has not diminished the quality of this property. The PIP from a few years ago, heightened the beauty of the property and made it more modern. I admit I still miss the old dining room but times change. And the newer rooms are also magnificent. What I love about this hotel the most, however, is the people. Case in point: I went to the hotel a couple of years ago after an absence of several years. And yet the doorman somehow remembered my name! I still marvel at this. And the level of service here from top to bottom is simply first rate. Do we have multiple favorite hotels in Chicago Admittedly, yes. You can read those reviews too. But the Ritz always has a special place in our hearts.

Great renovated hotel would highly recommend. Excellent location. Good service. Amazing lake view. Excellent gym. I would definitely come back. I went on business but had some time off so the location helped to walk around and shop. I ran across the lake drive which is close by

★★★★★ – World-Class Service and Seamless Comfort The Ritz-Carlton Chicago delivers a level of service and comfort that sets the standard. From check-in to checkout, the staff operated with focus, respect, and professionalism. Every request was handled without hesitation or friction. The room was quiet, well-designed, and extremely comfortable. The bed, layout, and finishes created a calm environment. Cleanliness was impeccable. Room service was fast, well-executed, and satisfying across multiple meals. I also spent time in the hotel’s restaurant and bar. The pizza was excellent. The bartenders were sharp, aware, and effective. The location is ideal—steps from Michigan Avenue, but protected from noise and chaos. It’s close to the lake, art, and shopping, but the building feels composed and removed from the rush. This was not just a stay. It was a restoration of energy and order in the middle of a demanding schedule. I will return.

Let’s be real—when you stay at The Ritz, your expectations are already sky-high. And yet, this location in downtown Chicago exceeded them. From the moment I arrived, the service was impeccable. Every single staff member I encountered was warm, polished, and genuinely attentive. Housekeeping deserves a standing ovation—my room was returned to a state of flawless perfection every time I left. No detail was overlooked. The room itself? Absolutely stunning. Spacious, modern, with tasteful luxury and a view that genuinely made me pause. The bathroom was sleek and spotless, with thoughtful lighting and high-end finishes that made it feel like a private spa. The in-room amenities (hello, Nespresso and plush robes) were just another layer of the Ritz-level standard. This was a work trip, but it felt like a retreat. I wasn’t surprised by the quality—this is the Ritz, after all—but I was still impressed. Every inch of this property exudes excellence.

I recently had the pleasure of celebrating my birthday at The Ritz, and from start to finish, it was an absolutely incredible experience. Every detail was handled with care, but what truly made our stay unforgettable was the exceptional service we received. I want to extend my deepest thanks to Kai Seldon, whose kindness and empathy truly stood out. During a quiet moment when I was going through something personal, Kai took the time to talk with me, not out of obligation, but out of genuine care. That conversation stayed with me. He made me feel not just seen, but supported, like I was more than just a guest. It's rare to encounter someone so compassionate and dedicated to making others feel valued, and I’m incredibly grateful. The Ritz is always associated with elegance, but this stay reminded me that it's the people who truly elevate the experience. Kai, thank you for making this birthday one I will never forget!

I had the opportunity to capture both a family session and an engagement session at The Ritz-Carlton, Chicago, and it was an absolute dream! The timeless elegance and modern luxury of this hotel make it one of my favorite venues for portraits and special moments. Located in the heart of Chicago’s Magnificent Mile, The Ritz-Carlton offers stunning views of Lake Michigan and the city skyline. The interiors are equally impressive, with bright natural light, sophisticated design, and luxurious touches that provide endless photo opportunities. From the grand ballrooms to the beautiful rooftop spaces and serene lounge areas, every corner feels polished and photo-ready. The staff is also fantastic—professional, helpful, and always accommodating, which made the experience seamless for both me and my clients. Whether it’s for weddings, family portraits, or engagements, I highly recommend The Ritz-Carlton, Chicago as a top-tier photography location.

Yelp
Booked a night on points at the ritz and was upgraded to a spectacular view of the lake. We also received an early check-in before noon (amazing). The staff were wonderful. Bottles of water were provided. We loved that the furniture was updated (the bathroom was a little dated). The only thing to note is that if you're celebrating a special occasion, make sure to follow-up a little more aggressively. I reached out to a number of people via chat and in-person and was not able to secure a celebration dessert for my guest. Bummed but minor in the grand scheme of things. Marriott Status: Titanium Elite Tip: Try their gummies. So good!!

Yelp
We enjoyed a festive afternoon tea at the ritz carlton this week. The experience was lovely. They have a medium sized variety of teas to choose from that span the gamut of white, red, black, blue and fruit teas. The finger sandwiches are yummy--the lobster was my favorite. The scones are also great. The festive pastries were both cute and delicious. We were full by the end! The space is also lovely.

Yelp
This was the first place we went to to get our first meal in Chicago. We knew that there'd be no way we'd be disappointed by the Ritz in class, in ambiance, customer service, and food. Some of the best meals I've had traveling the world have been at the Ritz around the world including the one in Tokyo, Japan and Cario, Eygpt. They do a magnificent job of transcending you from the ordinary experience to the extraordinary one. They are truly in the class of a priceless moment category. This Ritz in Chicago didn't disappoiny either. We took their elevator to their 11th floor which is their lobby to their restaurant, bar, and outdoor patio & lounge. I frequented several times throughout my weekend visit to eat at their astounding Adorn restaurant and came back again towards the end of our trip to grab a quick refresher cocktail in their outdoor patio louge. I love how their service is always astounding and generous. They never fail to make you feel welcomed including. when I visited several weekends ago.

Yelp
My review is based solely on the hotel bar. We stopped in here for a drink and got great service. The vibes were great, drinks were strong, and everybody was friendly that we encountered. My go to is the old fashioned and it was perfectly mixed and they always give you bar snacks to much on. Overall a great bar with drinks and service .

Yelp
Located near the Water Tower, this grand international hotel has an amazing lobby with the Torali restaurant and Starbucks. The reservations desk staff were friendly and gave me water. I came early, and they were able to place me in my room before 4 pm. The bedroom was generously spaced with a tv, a desk, a couch, and a partial view of the lake and John Hancock building. The walk-in shower was huge, with lots of towels and two robes. Check out is normally 12 pm. Btw there was only one computer for the business center, a spa, a fitness center with a swimming pool, steam, and sauna.

Yelp
Gorgeous hotel that made my birthday experience magical. Great cafe, comfortable beds, and a shower that makes you wanna stay in for hours with their nice smelling products. It's a real treat to stay here. Everyone was friendly and the little Nespresso machine was a nice touch. The lake views are stunning and you can catch fireworks from Navy Pier. After a long day of walking, it's the perfect place to come back to.

Sarah M.

Yelp
Enjoyed my stay at the ritz. The city view was quite lovely the Jon Hancock building is directly outside of the window and I can see the lake every morning. The king bed was super comfortable like sleeping on a cloud and I was able to utilize the desk area and do my work. The shower was nice and big with good water pressure. I also enjoyed the double sinks in the bathroom and all of the extra counter space. Cons: the restaurant is just okay but I don't fault the hotel.
google avatar

Quan D.

Yelp
Stayed here for the first time for a weekend trip and it was great! We got to enjoy the steam and sauna room in the spa facilities and the gym has a lot of nice treadmills and machines. It was also a very nice touch that there was a handwritten note and some very delicious desserts in the room upon arrival. The room was very quiet with a comfortable bed and nice bathroom and bar area with a Nespresso machine. They also have turn down service. We got upgraded to a lake view room. The view was ok, mostly buildings with the lake behind. Overall, I would recommend this hotel and will visit again next time we are in Chicago.

Yelp
The front desk associate was friendly and offered some Prosecco. We purchased club lounge access and it had a good selection of food for breakfast and dinner. You could feasibly eat every meal in the club lounge. Even during non food hours, there were always sweets and snacks and an assortment of wines and beers. The rooms had a modern aesthetic which is rare for a North American Ritz. I'd recommend staying here when visiting Chicago.

Alex F.

Yelp
After a long flight, I arrived late to check into my prepaid hotel room, only to be told by the front desk staff--who identified herself as the manager--that I couldn't check in because I was "underage." I'm 20 years old and will be turning 21 in less than three days. In fact, I came to Chicago to celebrate my 21st birthday. Despite explaining this, the manager was rude, inflexible, and unwilling to make any accommodations. She insisted that I could not access my room unless someone over 21 came to check me in. Even when my father offered to vouch for me over the phone and add his name to the reservation, she refused to consider it. I understand that hotels have policies, but the circumstances here are unreasonable. I am just days away from being 21 and can legally do everything in this country except drink. For a hotel charging over $600 a night, the lack of understanding and customer service is disappointing. This situation feels like a rigid adherence to policy without any willingness to take context or customer satisfaction into account.

Yelp
Came here to stay because my flight was delayed, The Ritz was kind enough to accommodate us on a extremely busy day, we ate at Torali for dinner, and had a delicious 8oz Filet Mignon with mashed potatoes the restaurant was very fast getting this order done, and it was a pleasant experience. The Ritz artwork, and interior was exquisite. We made our way to the room, and had a very pleasant night, This is the best hotel in all of Chicago, I strongly advise going here if you happen to be in Chicago.

Yelp
Best hotel experience since the pandemic! Classy hotel that provides great rooms, excellent conference facilities, and good service. Arrival: friendly doorman. Check-in: Efficient check in process Room: Room 1722 is a standard king room, but it's very spacious and functional. Fully equipped with all normal appliances and furniture including a Nespresso coffee maker, mini-refrigerator (filled with items for sale), desk, lounge, etc. Bed: comfortable king bed with good linens and pillows. Bathroom: excellent lighting, spacious double vanity, quality toiletries.... Only have some minor gripes about the bathroom: no tub and mediocre hairdryer. Sleep quality: excellent Housekeeping: Excellent housekeeping Wifi: I upgraded to the expensive wifi option. Ran an nperf speed test with poor results: 26.46 Mb download / 8.89 Mb upload. Barely sufficient for remote work. Very disappointed in the WiFi. Misc: Good conference facilities and catering for conferences. Wednesday evenings feature live jazz in the lobby- very nice.

Yelp
We go here for date nights for at least 10 years. The service has gone downhill but the ambience is great. The hotel bar is by far the best in the city. However, the housekeeping is bad. Last time we left my phone and checked out. Came back within 30 min only for it to disappear and never be found. May try another hotel but will come back for the bar.

Yelp
Spent our anniversary here at the end of December and the staff made it the best. From the valet, to check in, to turn down service everyone was amazing. The Spa is beautiful but a tad bit pricey in my opinion for what you get. We had a corner room and the views were splendid. Bed was super comfy and it had a little pillow (my husband is a big fan of little pillows lol) Decor was beautiful for Christmas time too. It's conveniently connected to the Water Towers shopping mall which was nice. We really enjoyed our elevated stay.
google avatar

Sheena P.

Yelp
A classic example of you get what you pay for. A nice glass of sparking wine on arrival and turn down service in the evening. No complaints!
google avatar

Daniel C.

Yelp
Normally I would not go to the expense staying at Ritz. Last time was in Orange County when head of the company came to town. As it turns out, conference rate was half of the normal room rate and same as other hotels near by on Magnificent Mile. Room was nice and staff were experienced and helpful. A really nice stay.

Hector F.

Yelp
A must if you are traveling to Indian Wells. Everything you expect from a the Ritz. Only complaint is that the adults only pool is too small. The main pool is great but too many kids.

Yelp
So, my wife and I decided to see in the new year by staying at the Ritz-Carlton, which was a first for both of us. Now, we did not come here with aspersions of things being relatively inexpensive...but that said, it was a very nice stay. When we chcked in, Anne-Marie was awesome and not only that, she and my wife were talking to each other like they knew each other for years. People like Anne-Marie were just made for the hospitality industry...she is really good at what she does and knows how to engage her customers. The room and the view were awesome!! I was born/raised in Chicago, but this is the first time I have seen the Chicago night life from up high, so to speak! In addition, the room can be as open or private as you need. Anyhow, room service was a bit pricey, but it was nice splurging on ourselves this time around. The food was good...not anything for me to shout to the heavens about, but still very good. Our waiters were wonderful, and overall, I'm gonna have to add Ritz Carlton to my list anytime I'm traveling. This was just a wonderful staycation all around. Again...to the Ritz Carlton management: take care of Anne-Marie...she is truly an asset to your location! Food....................................B Price....................................B (again, all around, it is expensive!) Ambiance...........................A Customer Service..............A+

Yelp
This tends to be my go to hotel for staycations. I"m a Marriott gal and this is probably the best Marriott option in the area. I've enjoyed many staycations with my husband, including this past weekend when we celebration his birthday with dinner in the city...and a night away from our adorable yet crazy children. I also took my 11 year old daughter and 4 of her besties here to celebrate her bday last November. It was the perfect kid friendly hotel due to the proximity to Water Tower. We didn't even have to go outside on a chilly Chicago fall weekend and Water Tower had plenty to keep them busy: Jo Jos Shake Bar, Harry Carry's restaurant/museum, Claires, etc. They also enjoyed pedicures in the spa area, which was probably a bit indulgent for their age...but seemed like the safest option in the middle of the pandemic. And we ended the fun night with swimming in their indoor pool. The stellar service is what you'd expect from a Ritz and we've had nothing, but lovely encounters with all of their staff. We've eaten the restaurant several times for breakfast, which is also very good. The one annoying thing is that you have to take 2 elevators to get out of the hotel, but besides that absolutely no complaints and will continue to be our go to for city staycations.
google avatar

Julie K.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel in a convenient location downtown w/ great views from our room. Stayed here for our wedding anniversary and the staff was nice. However, this was the only Ritz out of all the locations we've stayed at that didn't do anything for our celebration. For instance, Santa Barbara sent champagne and chocolates to our room for our anniversary while Hawaii did the same in addition to beautiful leis.

Yelp
We stayed here for a couple of nights since e were taking our daughter to American Girl. AG is basically connected to the hotel. The team was pretty friendly and the food options were as well. We only ate at the Italian restaurant since that was the only option for the evening time. We did check out the pool area and it was very nice but the pool was pretty cold and not heated. The entire pool was reserved for swimming laps and not really child friendly. I did check out the steam room and sauna and bit of them were very nice. The mens steam room was a hit and miss working when my husband attempted to use it. Our room was a newly renovated and was very nice. There is not an ice machine so you just have to call and they will deliver ice to your room. I also requested a robe for our little girl and they brought one for her to wear for the days we were there. Due to Covid the Club Level was not open for those that have access to it through our Marriott Bonvoy! We were able to get 20% off all food and drinks with our Titanium status with Marriott. For breakfast there is a great breakfast place right across the street that we got take out from both mornings. All in all the hotel was very nice and in a great location!!
google avatar

Rachel M.

Yelp
The hotel itself was very pretty. The rooms were well appointed and the beds are comfy. The hotel restaurant and bar were just okay. If that piece of it could get better it would be a 5. Staff has all been very courteous.

Yelp
Views are great! Service was good. Rooms are nice but small for cost. The location is a bonus since the hotel is close to many restaurants and shopping.

Yelp
Most beautiful and luxurious hotel I have ever stayed in. The lobby is gorgeous and carries up to the rooms. The views are breathtaking and exactly what I had hoped for on my first visit to Chicago. Our suite was spacious and beautiful. It was clean and had anything we could've asked for including the perfect robes and slippers. We utilized the gym and the pool. The pool was a fun treat and the gym is as well stocked with equipment as a normal gym. The staff was all wonderful, helpful, and accommodating. I will never forget my stay there.

Mary G.

Yelp
At a recent stay at the Ritz Carlton, which was wonderful, we were fortunate to use the Club Lounge for breakfasts and evening desserts. Mr. Jeremy Roberts, the lounge manager was most gracious, as was his delightful staff. The food was excellent, and the treats were extraordinary. Please continue with the lovely care of guests. Many, many thanks.

Yelp
my wife and i stayed here the week after christmas for a little reconnect getaway..... they treated us like sh#t someone came thru and went rummaging thru our room when we went out on a date. then denied everything.... several things missing from our room, and literally ... we were out on the hot seat as the bad guys. REALLY???? we have stayed at almost every big name hotel in Chicago and I always wanted to stay at a Ritz... but I will never ever go to a Ritz again I won't even eat Ritz cracker because it reminds me of how crappy the day was, and how bad they treated us if you're coming to Chicago, stay at the four seasons or at the W... Stay at a motel eight because I guarantee you they will treat you better than we got treated at the Ritz. they actually sent security to our room because I was complaining on the phone about how our room was ransacked and robbed, but they didn't send the security to defend us. They sent the security to tell us to stop complaining or we would be removed. REALLY??????

Yelp
Really love the service here The location is awesome bc of the proximity to shopping, beaches, restaurants. The bar is great and the cafe is nice and bright. The outdoor space could use a redo or something different but still very nice. Rooms are nicely appointed but wouldn't say it's luxurious. It's very well done. Service is top notch and always will stay here whenever possible

Yelp
Great views but horrible service! I wrote to them afterwards and they were as rude as they were when I was a there. Stay at the Westin, Sheraton, or Marriott instead.

Yelp
I stayed at the Ritz Carlton in Chicago with my family. We really enjoyed our stay with them. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The room was beautiful and the maid service was wonderful. We ate at the restaurant and had cocktails at the bar. The staff at the restaurant and bar were very friendly and accommodating. My only feedback is I wish the rooms would have a long mirror in at least one of the bathrooms. However, overall our stay was wonderful and I would definitely recommend and return to this location.

Yelp
I personally would not recommend the Ritz-Carlton Chicago to any BIPOC, as during my stay at the Ritz-Carlton Chicago, I was subjected to unwarranted micro-aggressions, racial profiling, and racial bias behavior. I spoke with the Directer of Operations, Mr. Tony Lytle to express my concerns, however he was unhelpful, apathetic, and dubious to my claims. I stayed here for a conference, and have no intentions of returning in the future.

Yelp
Overall a good experience for a hotel. Not what I expected from a Ritz-Carlton though. I agree with what others mentioned this has a very Marriott vibe not a high end hotel. Room service was over an hour for breakfast and to say for $100+ definitely not worth it. Overall good experience with friendly staff but if your looking to experience all a Ritz-Carlton has to offer this would not be the place. If in the area Id recommend looking elsewhere especially for what you pay here.

Yelp
Fantastic! Top-to-bottom fantastic on all metrics. Exceeded all expectations. Upon arrival, I was welcomed at street level and directed to the elevators. The lobby is on the 12th floor and is beautiful. The holiday decorations (end of November) were beautiful and tasteful. Maria at the front desk was very kind and extremely helpful with securing a requested upgrade for my stay. The suite was beyond my anticipations. Corner view overlooking the Miracle Mile. Breathtaking, spacious, comfortable, and luxurious. I enjoyed a few off-menu cocktails at the bar. The Mixologist, Mel was friendly and made spectacular drinks based on thoughtful questions he asked. He also gave me excellent recommendations for restaurants, and hand wrote a note for me to share to the manager of one dinner recommendation, which helped me secure a table without a reservation. In addition, the location of this property is great if you want to wander for a little high-end shopping. Adding this property as one of my preferred travel favorites on my personal list. You would be doing yourself a favor by staying here. Cheers!

Yelp
I have been staying at this hotel several times a year, for about 8 years now. It used to be my absolute favorite! Not so much anymore. This place seems to have taken a dive after 2020... outside of the maids and bellmen (who work very hard) the staff here is loaded with absolute entitled a-holes. I don't say this lightly, every manager and front desk staff employee at this hotel needs an emergency crash course in customer service. Hot take? They'll lose a star soon and it won't be a Ritz for long.

Yelp
Excellent ambience and service. Staff was excellent and the food was very good. I would recommend the Ritz for any event.

Yelp
The high tea is overpriced for what you get. The sandwiches were not classically dainty. They were huge and had too much bread. The servers were inattentive and didn't refill the tea enough. For the amount of money, the food should have tastes better.

Yelp
The Ritz is beautiful and even more so at Christmas. Service is always excellent and the bar is warm and cozy. Who doesn't love a glass of sparkling wine at a hotel bar?? It's hotel bar is a great place to meet friends and relax after a day of shopping. Our bartender was friendly, attentive and quick with whatever we needed. We will be back the next time we're downtown.

Yelp
It is so conveniently located next to the Water Tower, down Mag Mile and shopper's paradise! It is such an unassuming lobby with some minimal art work and design that you have to come through to get to the elevators to get up to the 12th floor for registration. The staff is friendly and welcoming. I saw them do the kids welcome cart, how cool is that! I like the set up of the room and the view of the lake and appreciate the access to the water bottles, slippers, and bathrobes that just made it feel home like and comfortable. It was nice to be able to grab some items from the cafe in the morning and that it was open at 6am because we just ate up pretty early. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
Update for March 2022- Sadly the coffee at the cafe was changed to Starbucks from la colombe - could not figure out a logical reason for the switch! However, the nespressos in hotel rooms do the trick in a pinch as well! :) Pastries are amazing- whatever that mustard dip for the chicken sausage breakfast pastry was UNREAL. Second time I'm going to vouch for the scallion cheddar scones. Next time, I'm skipping the tomato olive pastry. Staff members are so friendly and kind, gym is spotless and rooms are spacious. Like most other chicago hotels downtown, awesome location. Can't wait for my next chicago trip! Will be back

Yelp
Stayed here during a wedding, and it was everything I expect from the Ritz...A full service hotel with clean luxurious rooms, top notch service, and a smile. I was also so relieved when I learned that they were still offering room service... a rarity these days at Chicago area hotels. Guaranteed you won't be disappointed staying here!

Yelp
The Ritz-Carlton has gone through a major renovation... seriously, you wouldn't even recognize the place! They've completely overhauled the entire lobby. This is no longer your older parents' hotel. Gone is the huge fountain with the fuddy duddy carpeting and old chandeliers. The new aesthetic is contemporary with a Mid Century influence. Check out the photos of the place we took. We had the honor of staying on a floor they had just finished updating the week before. Clean, crisp and a great redesign of the layout. We couldn't have been happier with being some of the first folks to try the new look. And we couldn't have been happier with the new rooms. We'll definitely return again.

Yelp
Where do I start with this place? The experience was amazing. We arrived early on Friday prior to check in unexpectedly and the gentlemen at the desk, Andy, was able to accommodate an early check-in for us. We were offered complimentary champagne/water upon arrival as well. The place is conveniently located near the Magnificent Mile and what we didn't know was that there is a mall located in Water Tower Place which is where the Ritz is located. When we walked into the room it was SPOTLESS. We requested a city view and luckily our room had a city view and a view of Lake Michigan/Navy Pier. When we left for a few hours and came back each time we returned to a clean room, fresh towels, bottled water, and a made bed. The bed was BEYOND comfortable. This was very important to me especially since I am five months pregnant. The shower... oh my gosh... this was one of my favorite things. It had two shower heads and the water gets extremely hot. I plan to stay here every time I come back to visit Chicago.

Yelp
I don't think I could come up with a less than favorable review for our stay here . The customer service was beyond hospitable . The staff was so lovely , they were all so friendly , helpful and accommodating . The room we were given could not have been more perfect. The view was so spectacular and the bed was probably more comfy than ours is . The restaurant food was very good . The swimming pool with the beautiful skyline was something out of a movie . The rooftop bar was way too fun . The bartender was a beautiful angel. I cried when we had to fly back because I NEVER ever wanted to leave . Truly one of the 5 Best experiences of my lifetime. Wow . Cannot wait to come back !

Yelp
We had a lovely stay here recently. The lobby, hallways, and the rooms have all been recently renovated, and everything was spotlessly clean. A lot of the nice parts of staying in a hotel are finally coming back post-pandemic, so it was great to enjoy fresh sheets and towels on the regular during our stay. This may seem simple but was appreciated with their twice-a-day room and turndown service. If you are on a higher floor, the views can be excellent. We looked right at the Hancock building, Lake Michigan, and around the city. No complaints! The rooms are quiet and well-appointed. The front desk staff was helpful. This is also a great walkable place to stay, from shopping to museums to walking the lake shore path. You can get to lots of good spots from this central location just off Michigan Avenue.

Yelp
This was a total disappointment. If this was a high-end Marriott no problem but they call themselves a Ritz. The hotel is poorly managed. The staff act like they are doing you a favor to wait on you. I would highly suggest you stay at a Marriott in town and not waste your money on a fraud hotel that calls themselves the Ritz. We had a great trip there, had an awesome town, love ChiTown so not anything to do with Chicago.

Yelp
My husband is an ambassador titanium elite so he stays a different hotel every week. I had high expectations for this hotel. I am grateful that they were able to accommodate us by adjoining the rooms. We must have picked the wrong weekend to spend downtown for a staycation! We came here to celebrate our son's birthday. The lady organizing our request and who booked our room was great! She left a kind note with a dessert in our room. When we arrived, the lobby was super crowded. There must have been a wedding so the hotel was tremendously busy. Overall, the rooms was a good size and it was clean. The entire experience wasn't blowing us away, but just ok. Kids must have been too spoiled at the Ritz in Washington DC. Great location by American Girl, Lego and lots of places to eat so that's a plus.

Yelp
This is not a Ritz Carlton, but instead a Marriott hotel masquerading itself as a Ritz Carlton. There is absolutely nothing exclusive or luxurious about this hotel. Here is a laundry list of reasons why YOU the consumer should avoid getting scammed by this hotel which is nothing more than a wolf wearing sheep's clothing. 1) No working ice machines on any guest floor. 2) No exclusivity. Leave it to the nauseating greed of Marriott to put profits over guest experience by turning the Ritz Carlton lobby into massive Starbucks terminal. 5 star dining and a beautiful fountain that once adorned the lobby has now been replaced by IKEA-inspired decor and Starbucks. This means that every schmuck with $5 in their wallet can intermingle and roam amongst hotel guests who are paying onwards of $500+ a night for an accommodation. 3) The guest rooms are dated and atypical of a standard $99 room that can be acquired staying at any average airport hotel such as a DoubleTree or Ramada. 4) Torali restaurant is another privately owned business leasing space in the Ritz Carlton lobby, just like Starbucks. Walk-ins comprise of the core demographics of diners versus hotel guests. I couldn't even get a table as a paying hotel guest. But I was guaranteed a $25+ of bolognese if I wanted room service. This restaurant strikes me as an Olive Garden passing itself off as gourmet Italian cuisine. 5) The Lobby bar of the hotel caters to mostly walk-ins instead of hotel guests. It seems to be a hangout spot for adjacent retail workers and other industry types. The weekends turn into a hangout for cheating husbands that use the lobby bar to liaison with their mistresses or upscale escorts. Drink prices are astronomical. 6) The front desk staff is comprised of clueless 20somethings who are experts in regard to putting on fake smiles and extending platitudes towards guests. When the coast is clear they stand around texting on their phones, in addition to relentlessly cracking jokes and laughing amongst themselves. Unprofessional. 7) Concierge staff is excellent despite the lack of resources and outdated technologies given to them by the hotel. 8) Valet staff is excellent. No complaints. 9) Security personnel is lacking. Marriott is so greedy that when security personnel isn't patrolling the hotel they can be found taking upon tasks that otherwise correspond to the bellman and housekeeping. 10) Management is absentee. This Ritz Carlton location has to be one of the worst in the country. A pig wearing lipstick that charges erroneously high prices for a subpar experience. A brand name that is now being used to dupe uniformed and podunk tourists who don't know any better. A hotel that was once a Goliath amongst nearby competitors such as the Peninsula and Four Seasons. A hotel that once managed discerning clientele, but now only manages and cares about maximizing margins and cutting costs. A business model that is no different than taking Ferrari badges and sticking them on a Honda Civic and calling it an exotic car. Marriott is no longer in the business of hospitality. Marriott is now in the business of pacifying shareholders at the expense of their loyal clients.
