"Why did this hotel catch your attention? Perched on the rugged cliffs along the Pacific coastline, The Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay is a hotel you can easily imagine being somewhere on the East Coast or even on the Scottish bluffs. The 261-room resort overlooks the magnificent ocean, golf courses and has access to trails and beaches. Just a short 50-minute drive from San Francisco or Silicon Valley, it's perfect for romantic getaways. What's the backstory? Opened in 2002, this is one of the few resorts, perhaps the only resort, of this size and scale located directly on Northern California's shoreline. The Shingle style architecture of the hotel, which is much more common on the East Coast, comes from trying blend a building into the coast's asymmetrical landscape. Tell us all about the accommodations. Any tips on what to book? The nautical details you would expect at a hotel set on the water are used very sparingly, which is very appreciated. The standard rooms are decorated in hues of gray, bright blue, and slate, hinting at coastal accents. There is a natural calm breezing through the rooms that comes from their isolated location. Ground floor rooms with private fire pits and the extra deep bathtubs are perfect for a full body soak. Is there a charge for Wi-Fi? The Wi-Fi is good while you are in the hotel, outside you quickly lose the connection. But hey, isn’t it why you are here? To disconnect? Drinking and dining—what are we looking at? There are three restaurants here. The Conservatory, mimicking a modern beach house, is great for a casual breakfast, lunch, or dinner, while the Ocean Terrace features an oyster bar and grilled specialties. But the real star is Navio, the acclaimed restaurant from Chef Jakob Esko that focuses on coastal flavors. The restaurant hosts the Global Cuisine Series, welcoming other internationally acclaimed chefs as well. You get greeted with a glass of wine at the check-in, and the front desk staff is efficient and super friendly. If you need an itinerary, the concierge will be more than happy to organize everything for you - from horseback riding to kayaking. And the service? You're greeted with a glass of wine at check-in and the front desk staff is efficient and friendly. If you need an itinerary, the concierge will be more than happy to organize outings like horseback riding or kayaking for you. Who else stays here? There are many folks in their best resort-casual attire, but also surprisingly, many young professionals in Patagonia vests from all over Silicon Valley. Since Northern California has a laid-back vibe anyway, you are just fine in anything but a pair of old sweats. Any other hotel features worth noting? Around sunset time, a bagpiper creates a magical experience on the cliffs. This is the moment where you genuinely feel like you could be in Scotland." - Ana Kamin

Amazing hotel, amazing location. We found the staff to be absolutely wonderful. Our servers at lunch - Antonia & Adam were delightful and made sure we were well taken care of. The food was fantastic and well presented. After we got settled into our room (we were in one of the guest cottages) the cleaning staff stopped by to check to make sure we had everything we needed. The workout room was awesome, plenty of room and machines, the grounds were lovely and well kept. Sadly, we didn't have time to golf this time thru and it was too cold to swim, but we enjoyed all the other amenities.

Amazing service. Beautiful property and grounds. Great hotel for conducting business. When people say to a small business owner take up golf, what they really mean is take a few golf lessons, make sure you understand the game's basics, and rent a room on the third floor overlooking the golf course here for a couple of nights during a tournament. Observe while you work. You'll gain invaluable insights.

Took my daughter to the Ritz-Carlton HMB for a Mother Daughter Massage Day. Not impressed. The Spa was not at all what I expected for a Ritz. Save your money. Their spa needs a complete make-over. $450 for a massage. Plus they still charge you $50 to park your card for 90 Minutes! The resturaant was also closed at 11 when we wanted to have brunch in the conservatory. The Lockers are completely open to the "Quiet room" where your wait. You are sitting there watching (and being watched) while you undress? Who designed that? Also, no hairbrushes in the blow dry area. The massage was fine but I felt the amenities were not what I would expect at a 5 star hotel. I was willing to pay for a mother daughter "experience" but this was nothing special.

Stayed at the Ritz-Carlton Half Moon Bay for a one night stay. Most of the hotel staff was very attentive and provided great service; however, there was a fire alarm malfunction at 1am and again at 3am which didnt end until around 4:30am. It was unfortunate as this resulted in us having to cancel our morning round of golf and we ended up flying home early. I understand this was not something they could control, but the manner in which the hotel staff handled the situation could have been better. Many guests thought they should have communicated and updated everyone more effectively with status and updates of the situation.

Sure! Here’s your experience rewritten as a Google review: I stayed at the Ritz-Carlton Half Moon Bay on June 18–19 and, unfortunately, had one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had. I booked an ocean view room but was given one facing the golf course instead, despite being told we were upgraded. We were also offered an option to pay more for a room with a fire pit, which added to the confusion. On top of that, the dining experience was disappointing—our food arrived cold, and servers kept trying to take our plates before we were finished. Housekeeping didn’t show up for turndown service until 9:30 p.m., which felt extremely late. To make matters worse, some of the staff and even other guests were surprisingly rude. For a property of this caliber, the overall experience was frustrating and far below expectations.

Five-Star Review for The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay Spending Christmas at The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay, was an unforgettable experience. This property is a stunning hotel that delivers on luxury, exceptional service, and an overall sense of relaxation and indulgence. The location is breathtaking, perched along the dramatic California coastline with sweeping ocean views that make you feel like you’ve escaped into a postcard. Whether you’re enjoying a morning coffee on the terrace or watching the sunset by the fire pits, the scenery is simply unmatched. The service was excellent, with staff who were attentive, warm, and professional. Every request was met with care, and the holiday touches throughout the property made it feel festive and special without being overdone. The rooms were beautifully designed, with luxurious details that made our stay incredibly comfortable. The food and dining experience were also wonderful, offering a great selection of fresh, high-quality ingredients and flavors that complemented the coastal setting. The combination of stunning surroundings, exceptional service, and the signature Ritz-Carlton touch made for a truly special Christmas stay. Would absolutely return!

Humiliating and Unacceptable Treatment at The Conservatory Restaurant Our experience at The Conservatory restaurant in The Ritz-Carlton was deeply unpleasant and shocking. We arrived for dinner with our children and were met with cold, unfriendly service. We were immediately told that no tables were available, even though at least five tables were clearly empty. When we tried to ask politely, the entire staff gathered around us and stared in a judgmental, uncomfortable way—as if we were doing something wrong by simply requesting a place to sit. A woman, whom we believe was the manager or hostess, suddenly rushed over and curtly told us that everything was full. Throughout this, we were moved three times, but never given a proper table—only offered bar seating, which is completely inappropriate for a family with children. The whole situation felt humiliating, dismissive, and utterly unacceptable—especially at a hotel of this supposed caliber. Instead of hospitality and professionalism, we were made to feel unwanted and ignored. This experience left us with a very negative impression and ruined what should have been a relaxing evening. We sincerely hope the hotel’s management takes this seriously and ensures no other family is treated this way again.

Our stay was beyond perfect at The Ritz! The property was amazing and each and every staff member was top notch. My wife and our children also loved every aspect too. We have already begun telling friends and other family about the hotel and are looking forward to coming back very soon! We were upgraded for our special occasion and loved our ground level terrace with the fire place. The courtyard with the bigger fire pits were amazing. We spent most of our afternoon, before dinner, sitting outside by the fireplace, listening to music, sipping cocktails and looking at the scenery. You guys seriously have a gem there in Half Moon Bay. We rented bikes and toured the property. That was one of our favorite parts along with the complimentary putting and chipping on the golf course. We are already talking about doing a lot longer of a stay next time. This place and your staff showed so much class. Just what we expected from a Ritz. The bagpipes player walking around the entire property at sunset was such a nice thing to top off the evening!

Yelp
A few nights at the RC Half Moon Bay were just what the doctor ordered for new years eve and belated anniversary trip for my wife and I. This resort is 5 stars all the way. Our 6th floor room had an excellent ocean view and was filled with luxury, from the built in wine fridge to the exquisite bedding, to the marble and everything in between. I appreciated the complimentary glass of malbec at check in, which I commented that I liked, so they sent a bottle up to the room along with a thoughtful card for our 9th anniversary. The resort's indoor and outdoor dining options are all excellent and in addition to the Conservatory, Navio and Ocean Terrace, there is Mullins Steakhouse at the golf club. Speaking of golf, there are 36 holes of world class golf with spectacular views and plenty of challenge. Otherwise, there's plenty of outdoor activity, as the sprawling resort grounds are perched directly atop the bluffs overlooking the Pacific. Spa, hike, beach, bike, relax. Your call. Will revisit the RC HMB again, for sure.

Yelp
I've always wanted to come here! We decided to come for a night a few weekends ago and we were happy we did! It's been completely remodeled and the rooms are beautiful. We had a coastal view room and it was perfect. Great views of the ocean. We had dinner and cocktails by the fire pits and everything was super tasty. And you can't beat the atmosphere. Service was excellent, We ordered room service for breakfast the next day and that too was yummy. I do agree with people that the valet parking price is a bit much. Kind of feels unnecessary. But I try to look past it as it's a great property. Overall I'd say: epic views, great location, good service, and well appointed rooms. We will definitely be back.

Ash L.

Yelp
Excellent, beautiful rooms. Beautiful property. Very soft beds and pillows. We're not golfers, but I can certainly see the draw for golfers. A beautiful weekend getaway. Some negatives that were minor - - $68/day parking. That is an insane up charge; usually hotels like this are 30-40/day - the giant tv in the room does not work well; has about 20 channels and connects to YouTube and Netflix, but the internet connection is so bad that the picture is blurry and it doesn't even have tve bandwidth to include subtitles - very VERY few vegan options for food (hot chocolate by the fire pits are a thing - but they don't even offer a nondairy option) Positives - beautiful grounds - great service - comfortable beds - great in room coffee (nespresso vertuoso) - good gym (has a stair master!) We would definitely come back if staying in HMB again.

Jolens V.

Yelp
The Ritz gives a rich vibe. The design and location is a virtual feast for the eyes. The service is A plus. The beautiful scenery and view is an amazing experience. The food at their restaurants are amazing.

Yelp
Walked around here on christmas day yesterday to visit my aunt uncle and cousin who were staying here they said they've been having a lovely time and the decor is so cute. We loved the hot cocoa bar and bagpipe players

Yelp
The Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay was absolutely amazing. My boyfriend took me here for my birthday and the employees made me feel very special here. At the spa, we had a lovely time and Josue and the lady with him at the front desk made our experience simply incredible! Meredith at the lobby front desk was very accommodating and sweet! Additionally, Brenda has sent us a fabulous gift as my boyfriend was returning to this Ritz for the second time around, and it being my birthday as well - all of which we are extremely grateful for! I applaud and appreciate how professional, welcoming, and kind each of the employees we met were. We would definitely return, if not for a night in their stunningly clean guest houses, then definitely for the spa.

Joy T.

Yelp
This review is for the Spa. In early 2024 I had booked a spa appointment after seeing online advertisement of steamroom, sauna, and cold plunge. Turns out the cold plunge was only available in the men's locker room, which is inherently unfair, discriminatory, and also false advertising. After informing management I was told that the spa was undergoing renovation and that there would be equal facilities in the locker rooms. I now see that the Spa removed advertisement about the cold plunge, but that the women's locker room still does not have the cold plunge. There is no purpose to going to a spa without a cold plunge when most gyms already have steam and sauna facilities. Cannot believe a Marriott property would allow for this type of discrepancy in 2025

Yelp
The Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay has been on my husband and my bucket list for a couple of years. Every time we say we are going to spend a memorable weekend here, work calls! This year about 5 months ago, we decided to cash in on a FNA and points and use them to spend New Years Eve here. First off, let me preface this by saying, Marriott will not 'budget' this property not for points or stay on cash. We have watched and waited. They don't have to and they won't. This property is amazing and seemingly always in demand. I grew up near here and I can attest for the beauty of this coastline and it is a site and no wonder why this property is sought after. We flew in and spent a couple of days prior with our daughter who works near the area. Upon arrival we reached out in hopes of an upgrade, which we knew was laughable on NYE. We arrived and were greeted by the friendly valet. I want to say it's a steep $60+ a day. Don't come here on a budget. Everything here is pricey. The bagpipe was playing as we pulled in and that just adds to the beauty of this property. Wine or bottled water greets you at the front desk. I will say our front desk girl, Lisa, never smiled once. She had no personality, nothing. We were upgraded to a beautiful room on the coast and I highly doubt any room here is bad. Although I would not want a corner bottom floor near the exit or stairwell and that goes for a coveted cottage or fire pit room. Our room was beautiful and quiet and this resort was packed! There are Nespresso machines in the rooms; and steamers. There is even a wine drawer for your wines. The furnishings are beautiful. We had a beautiful view of the roaring coastline and waves. Firepits are abundant throughout the property to have a wine or hot toddy at. The Conservatory is the 'less expensive' restaurant & has a beautiful view. We changed our NYE reservation from Navio, the higher end restaurant to here to see the view but it was still very $$$$$. Navio offers a brunch but has a time limit to enjoy and for the price , it doesn't make sense. Besides the salty check in and people who answer the chat, that is my only true complaint.. there is no TRUE 'casual' restaurant here , Ocean Terrace is outside but one menu said $80 for what is a seafood tower and $105 up at the hostess stand. Again no true casual restaurant that is a place to grab a wine for less than $20 and a meal less than $50 pp. We sat at the bar and watched the bowl games on NYE before dinner and had amazing bartenders- I even got to sample a Espresso Martini made w Don Julio! YUM!! The beauty here is amazing ; the staff ( beyond the front desk!) , superb .. you can walk the path for miles and find beauty all over ! The bagpipes at sunset ; the vibe is zen.. we hope to come back and maybe find it less busy .. but we knew it would be busy and that is for a reason!

Yelp
Hamburger was good ^^ The view was amazing and very kind employees. The meat was so tender and the bread was soft.

Yelp
Spa review Was able to get last minute reservation at the spa to celebrate my best friend's birthday so off we went for the first appointment at 8:30 AM :-) on a Sunday We love a very good spa day and so I was excited to try out the place. Parking: it is valet only so be prepared to pay $50 for the parking Check in: easy and they have a great storefront with lots of beauty products but also combined with a gift shop. Spa: they have most areas separated for gender except the one common pool area which we did not use. Just took a look at. The steam room is always one of my favorite parts and I spent a good amount of time sweating all of the gunk out lol Relaxation room: great selection of tea was not super impressed with the chocolate and dried fruit. Felt like a pure sugar rush. Would be better with some fresh fruit like some other I have been to offer. They had these gadgets that would give your temples and forehead extra massage, which was nice. Not sure how often those get cleaned though lol but we still used it and enjoyed them. If you really like them, they sell them in the gift shop as well. Massage: we got the relaxation and deep tissue massage. Enjoyed both very much and the essential oil that was part of it was a nice touch. After the massage we went outside just to take in the sites and a lot of people were out, enjoying the beautiful weather and having lunch. Would I go again? Absolutely.

Yelp
Stayed over the weekend for a work event. The hotel lost power most likely due to the wind and was running on generators. Ritz definitely tried its best to adjust but it was inconvenient. The dining hall was great and the food was fantastic. After dinner we went back to the room which had a generator running right outside the window, no heat, and hot water was lukewarm. Basically we had a great evening but poor sleep and ended up leaving super early due to the cold, noise. Hopefully next time is better.

Gaby K.

Yelp
Excellent hotel. Loved the service, the care and attention they give is so heartwarming. Every part of the hotel property was beautiful with such great attention to detail everywhere. The standout for me was the service. Every time you arrive back at the hotel, you're greeted by the doorman and welcomed back. Also dare I say the best caramel latte I have ever had from their casual restaurant near the front door. Most peaceful and special place you can stay at in the area.

Nicole M.

Yelp
Beautiful inside and out! Highly recommend booking a stay if you're celebrating a birthday, anniversary or something special. Plan ahead for golf or enjoy the coastal trail. Mornings definitely start off foggy but overall clears up as the day progresses.

Aman G.

Yelp
Wow. This place has gone down the drain. The service is HORRIBLE. If you're going to pay this much, please stay at a different Ritz. I have never been treated so horrible in my life, and I have stayed at a dozen Ritz properties. I will say Calven and Alexis were both awesome. Everyone else is terrible. Especially Divanshi, who will not return calls despite my several complaints. Also, the ocean terrace food is disgusting, and the conservatory breakfast was nasty. Our food was covered in flies.

Negar T.

Yelp
We recently been invited to a wedding at Ritz Carlton. The food was outstanding. the view was breathtaking, and the service was truly impressive. I definitely recommend this hotel for weddings‍

Yelp
****NOT A DOG-FRIENDLY HOTEL**** Although The Ritz - HMB is advertised as a dog-friendly hotel in a number of dog travel guides, their pet policy suggests otherwise. Dogs are not allowed in the main hotel building. The only dog-friendly rooms are a 10 minute walk from the main building. They charge a $250 pet fee per stay PLUS $20/night fee that goes to the Peninsula Humane Society. 40 lb weight limit. For a special occasion, I'm fine these fees. But, get this... Per staff, dogs are NOT allowed in any of the outdoor areas, outdoor fire pit areas, AND/OR any of the restaurants' outdoor patios. When asked, "What if I want to dine in one of the hotel's restaurants?" "Most guests just crate their dogs in the hotel room". GTFOH. Paying $1k-$1.5k+ a night (not including pet fees) to bring your dog and lock them in the room is wild. And, messed up. Dogs are family not side chicks. The grounds are amazing and I understand wanting to keep it this way BUT you're either a dog-friendly hotel or not. Please pick a lane.

Helen H.

Yelp
Points were used to book a room, but we paid for the daily resort fee and valet parking was $68. If it wasn't for the points, I wouldn't stay here as the rooms are quite expensive. The entrance of the hotel is decorated with red lanterns, which I'm guessing is for Lunar New Year. We received a glass of wine while we were checking in. The best feature of this hotel is that it is located next to the coast and we took a short walk on the coastal trail. We mostly stayed in and relaxed in our room, especially because we were able to upgrade it. The room was spacious and comfortable. The only thing is I wished the shower was a bit bigger. Overall, it was a luxurious stay.

Dave L.

Yelp
We decided to use a lot of marriot points on a pre holiday anniversary get away. Note- This review does not consider price - prices for everything are obscene - but if you are shopping $1500 per night hotels, it is a secondary concern. The property is gorgeous. The rooms are gorgeous. The service is impeccable. This was a bucket list trip for us and we were beyond pleased. Staff identified us by name, they left us a cake for our anniversary - all small touches, but the overall experience was comprehensive and luxurious.

Cody L.

Yelp
Breathe taking views, gorgeous property, excellent service. The fire pit at night is an absolute perfect way to end the day, cool breeze, warm fire and impeccable surroundings. The evening bagpiper adds a surreal atmosphere to your experience.

Zelda F.

Yelp
A group of us had lunch there and it was the worst experience. Extremely slow service, they got our appetizers wrong, the Vegan Brussel Sprout salad was a disaster. Their Vegan choices are a joke. The brussel sprouts were hard and had no taste. Extremely small portions with extremely high prices. Do your self a favor and eat somewhere else.

Mike C.

Yelp
I was there from Sunday evening for three nights for a work event. From the moment I stepped out of the car, I was treated with exceptional customer service without question. From the valets to bellhops to front desk, it was a seamless process getting checked in and getting my bags delivered to my room. We had a large group dinner outside which was interesting with the cool weather but the outdoor heaters helped to keep things comfortable. Breakfast buffet in the mornings were top notch with an omelet bar on the first day and an eggs benedict bar the next. Golf at the Ocean Course was amazing. Course was in great shape and everyone at the golf course was fantastic at making sure we all had a great time. The rooms are all well appointed and comfortable. My only complaint is the light in the bathrooms are so bright especially with all white floors and walls that at night it's almost blinding (that's the ONLY complaint I could think of). If they had a dimmer switch that would be nice. Overall, a five star experience from beginning to end. The Ritz has customer service down to a science and they delivered.

Tommy L.

Yelp
I am writing to express my extreme disappointment with the service provided during my recent stay at your hotel. I booked two rooms for my family to celebrate an anniversary and drove five hours to have a nice experience, only to be let down repeatedly. On both Friday and Saturday nights, I called for turn-down service before dinner. Despite multiple requests through phone calls and the Bonvoy app, no service was provided. It was evident that the hotel is poorly managed and understaffed, prioritizing cost-saving measures over guest satisfaction. When Miguel called to apologize on Saturday evening, I was appalled by the lack of accountability and follow-through. It is unacceptable that a guest has to contact the hotel three times for a basic service. Despite promising to speak to me in person at check-out, Miguel was nowhere to be found. I expected a higher level of service from a Ritz Carlton property and was sorely disappointed. Instead of driving five hours to your property again, I will be taking my business elsewhere where I can receive the service I deserve. I hope that this feedback reaches the appropriate channels within your organization and prompts improvements in how guests are treated by your management and staff.

David L.

Yelp
Went here for our Anniversary on a weekend. I booked with points. We arrived and the valet was really nice. the front desk was busy, but not too long of a wait. The process was pretty fast. They upgraded us to a fire pit room looking at the outdoor restaurant. I got a little confused at first. The main floor in actually the third floor. So I had to go down to 2 which is the ground floor in the back of the hotel. Reminded me of Japan where the registration is on a high floor. The room was very nice and clean. We had a few minor problems with the bathroom but no big deal. They didn't have a shear curtain in the room only the drapes which was disappointing since the lighting in the room was scarce. I wish they would add the shear curtain so you could still get the natural light in the room with more privacy. The hotel has an indoor swimming pool and tennis courts. Lots of pathways to walk around with stunning views. A bag piper comes and hour before sunset and plays throughout the hotel grounds. There are a lot of tourist from other countries here. It's a destination. Lots of dogs also which became a little annoying at night when one was barking late night. The staff are very professional and friendly. The valet was pretty fast in retrieving you car which was nice. It's a nice hotel.

Karen W.

Yelp
We came to take a look at the hotel even though we did not stay there. There is valet parking only and they charge $30 for parking so hubby was willing to pay for parking. We went to look at the interior and visited the gift shop and the worker there suggested we walk the grounds and look at the beautiful view. The view is lovely and the hotel is spacious. So we took some photos of the golf course and bay. The weather in Half Moon Bay is foggy most of the time.

A. M.

Yelp
Hat's off to the Manager of The Conservatory Restaurant. I could not attend an important celebratory dinner and wanted to contribute to the three-day celebration at the Hotel for a close friend. I spoke with Alejandro Garzon who is the Restaurant Manager. Well, he fixed everything. He arranged a special treat and had great ideas. He sent a picture of the table with our gift before the guests arrived. Absolutely beautiful. Alejandro saved the day for us and we are so very grateful for being quick in his response and extremely knowledgeable. What an asset to the Ritz!

Therese K.

Yelp
Celebrating International Women's Day at the fabulous Half Moon Bay Ritz Carlton. Ladies of Ferrari Silicon Valley had a gorgeous day to display their cars. Vodka tasting with the owner of Half Moon Bay Distillery, the lavender vodka was delicious! Shared a charcuterie plate paired with an Aperol Spritz with views of the signature 18th hole. Stopped in the Conservatory for a special Purissima Mule. A perfect spot on a sunny coastal day.

Yelp
Incredible resort! I was going to come here last year for my birthday but didn't come so I was excited to get a chance to visit . The view is amazing. Resort is right off the coast on a cliff. Golf course is beautiful.... The staff was amazing. The lounge staff was great. The lounge had a great view...food and service was excellent. Definitely a place I will be visiting frequently! Hotel - 5/5 Service - 5/5 Lounge - 5/5 Food - 5/5 Staff - 5/5 Atmosphere - 5/5

Yelp
Ugh, we came here for a mini baby moon, and this experience was so different from the last one. We upgraded to a fire pit room again, and were told the room would be ready within 20 minutes. After more than an hour of waiting and speaking with the guy from the front desk multiple times, he said the room was ready. I don't understand why we paid extra $$$ if he couldn't guarantee us the room. If you ask me, the upgrade wasn't worth it. I felt like we were oversold the room because he promised full ocean views, but we only had partial because the room that we were supposed to have was given to the couple who checked in after us. When we got into the room, the robes were stained, but the silver lining to this trip was the amazing staff who brought me a pregnancy pillow and went the extra mile to make sure I was comfortable in the room. We also had a late checkout of 2pm with the hubs' tier status. It's the little things that make the most impact haha

Korina Y.

Yelp
10.21.23|Sat We had a privilege of staying a night at The Ritz Carlton, Half Moon Bay complimentary last night. Jay at the concierge desk was welcoming and hospitable, gave us an upgrade to an amazing coastal view room with views of the golf course and the ocean. Jay also had a staff take our luggages up to our room for us since I mentioned that we had six minutes to make it to the beach for the sunset. He was also friendly and warm not snobbish or anything like that. He offered us a glass of wine complimentary, since I don't drink alcohol I got a glass bottle of spring water instead. Thanks to him , we made it to the sunset, when we got to the observation area, there was a bagpipes player playing his bagpipe. I felt like I was in Scotland ha ha. Landscape is immaculately beautiful with fire pits, tables and chairs where you can enjoy a glass of wine while watching the sunset. The hotel is surrounded by the gorgeous green golf course and colorful flowers. Inside the hotel there is a heated pool, a gym, a restaurant and the gift shop. They offer free yoga classes. You can also rent bicycles complimentary. There are also tennis courts and the pickle ball courts. And a pro shop. Room service is available 24 hours. They offer breakfast, lunch and dinner menus. Delivery fee to your room is $8. The bed was comfortable with soft pillows and a warm blanket. Except a few loud barking noises from dogs , it was nice and quiet in the room at night. Bathroom amenities are by Diptyque Paris ($70 a bottle body lotion, shampoo, conditioner, etc ) They also give you a little sachet of bath salts as a gift which smells so nice. Separating tub and shower which is nice. I like soaking in the tub and this one is pretty narrow but deep. Parking attendant was also welcoming and hospitable , he went out of his way to bring us a cup of coffee that was left in the car. He thought we might still want it because it was still warm. Checking in was smooth since we arrived kind of late around 6:15 pm , there was no line at the concierge desk. The location could not be better being right at the Mitamontes Point Beach on top of the cliffs with gorgeous views all around. You can take the Half Moon Bay Coastal Side Trail to the Redondo Beach or take the California Coast Trail to the Pelican Point Beach and the Manhattan Beach. Also just five minutes drive to the town area of Half Moon Bay where there are many restaurants, coffee shops, gas stations etc .. I love coming to the Half Moon Bay area anytime of the year but the pumpkin patch season is my favorite time of the year to visit. (Also gets a little trafficky but well worth it in my opinion)

Yelp
Very expensive for less than average food at the terrace, outdoors- i guess the prices are baaed on the name- not impressed. Seems like they put all the Asians and non whites in one section. Was very odd. Beautiful location. Disappointed.

Yelp
Room very small. Refrigerator didn't work and they didn't fix it for 3 days I was there. No adjustments on bill....could have paid my parking..... Given cost....you are paying for location.

Yelp
This is a beautiful hotel with breathtaking views of the California coast. There's a golf course on property but it otherwise doesn't have much of a "resort"-like feel. There isn't a self-park option which makes it a little annoying to get your car in and out via the valet. On the website, it says they have electric car charging stations...which they do (apparently), and the valet said he would plug my car in. I'm not sure if he didn't know how, but it didn't get charged over the three days I was there. There isn't much of a lobby area which is a little bit of a pain while I waited for my room to be ready. My room - which was just a standard hotel room - was lovely. The room was well-designed in that everything you needed was exactly where you expected it to be. It was a relatively spacious room with enough space for an arm chair, proper desk with a work chair and a large king bed. The bathroom was also spacious with a large tub for soaking and a separate shower stall. There was also a white noise maker in my room which was helpful because it was a bit noisy the first night (when I forgot there was a white noise machine). The room had a fire pit just outside the sliding glass door that overlooked the golf course, though my fire pit wasn't working (just gas coming out, no flame!). The room is not particularly private since people were on the putting green outside of my door and others running/walking by, but it's to be expected on a property like this.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing! You really do get what you pay for. The wine list and food blew my mind! I would have taken more photos if I wasn't so captivated by the moment. Extremely clean. The beach is a brisk walk from the hotel. You can see the distance in the photo taken, hotel is seriously right on the coast. I will absolutely be coming back. Amazing customer service. And best of all , the hotel and beach both are dog friendly. Huge outdoor fire pits. I will say, There was construction going on to some of the rooms and one of the restaurants but it didn't take away from the calming and tranquil environment.

Yelp
What a treat to stay the night and experience the beautiful property of this Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay! With our kids at summer camp not too far from here, my friend Aimee and I decided we deserved to pamper ourselves and create our own summer camp if you will... It was only one night and it was indeed a splurge, but wow - what a memorable and special visit! From the complimentary wine at check-in, the bagpiper at sunset, the bike ride on property, a dinner and a breakfast on site, a quick workout + yoga class, and a visit to the spa, we squeezed in as much as we possibly could and loved every moment! The employees were all very personable and attentive to our needs, our room was wonderful and so were all of the amenities. I could go on, but I'll just end by saying that if you're looking at staying here, do it! You will not regret it! I hope to be back!

Yelp
I have stayed at many Ritz Carlton locations and usually it is a wonderful and luxury experience. However, I will never return to the Ritz HMB after the disastrous experience that I am currently having. Do not book this hotel. There is extreme renovation and you will be disturbed the entire time. It is constant LOUD banging directly above my room ( as if they are installing flooring) and it is giving me a migraine. And there is also no spa to escape to of course because it is under reno. No club level either. And they wont tell you any of this when you reserve. The food is complete overpriced, the avocado toast at breakfast was $40. There is basically on place to eat on the property and their lunch menu and dinner is essentially the same except they up the prices tremendously. Do not book this hotel or you too will be very upset and will regret your vacation

Yelp
Absolutely breathtaking view. Ritz Half moon bay is probably my favorite Ritz in the United States. We visited this hotel when my second baby was only 3 months old so we didn't really get to enjoy all the amenities here. We did get a chance to enjoy the restaurants here at the hotel. We had breakfast at the Conservatory and dinner at Navio. We drove to San Mateo from Orange County. It was a long drive with 2 kids but the hotel did make the drive worth it. Our room has the ocean view. 5 star for service. It's very consistent at all the Ritz Carlton hotel I've stayed at. They are also very kid friendly. They always have kids menu and offer toys for the kids. This is one of the main reasons that we always stay at Ritz hotel when we travel.

Yelp
I have been here twice so far, once in the fall and once in the spring. Unfortunately because both visits were inconsistent I have to give this property four stars instead of the full five. I will say right from the get go that if you are not celebrating something that you should wait to visit until you do have a birthday or anniversary. Their system is incredible in that most of the staff will be alerted to your special celebration and you may even receive a small gift delivered to your room, or special small desserts during brunch or dinner on property. The small gift usually is a bottle of wine (Cabernet Sauvignon), but could include other goodies depending on who the guest relations person is. Marlene did a wonderful job coordinating for our anniversary and we felt well taken care of throughout our stay. My first time at the property (October) they did not try at all to recognize my request for an early check in. They also failed to call me when my room was ready and when I got to the room they did not complete the feather-free treatment I requested. An hour later we were settled into a new room with a fire pit and nearly passed out in the elevator and the hallway with all of the strong gas odors throughout the first floor. The extra price, in my opinion, is not worth it. Just stay in their standard accommodations and enjoy the fire pits outside overlooking the ocean cliffs. My second time at the property (April) was perfect. They honored my request for early check in, had the room de-feathered, my bags and luggage were sent up after we were settled in, and the turn down evening service was a nice touch with the smooth chill music playing on the in-room radio/alarm clock, chocolates, extra glass-bottled waters and our toiletries neatly arranged in the bathroom. Upon checking out, we discovered that the valet parking team had topped up the charge on our electric car, which was a great amenity we did not expect. If you are planning on eating on property, my suggestions by meal: Brunch at Navio, it's a two-hour all you can eat experience ranging from starting dishes like caviar tasting with blini, to a simple salad, to typical brunch fare like Belgian waffles to Benedicts, to heavier fare like lamb or beef, and a finale of several small cakes, pastries and tarts. Worth the nearly 200 per person cost (excludes any drinks you may like, even a simple drip coffee costed extra). Make your reservation two months in advance on Tock. Afternoon snacks and drinks at the Ocean Terrace, especially if you like shrimp cocktail or artichoke dip. Ritz guests have their own dedicated section with a better view of the ocean cliffs away from the screaming children on the lawn, and dedicated fire pit to sit around and benefit from the heat. It can get cold out in Half Moon Bay even on a sunny day so the warmth is welcome. No reservation was necessary to be seated promptly. Dinner at the Conservatory, with a good range of appetizer, entree and dessert options and much more affordable than dinner at Navio. Navio's tasting menu is overrated for the price and the flavors clash in your mouth and in your stomach. Make your Conservatory reservation a few days to a week in advance on Tock, or earlier if you're that determined. Check in around 2:30pm or so to get in on free glass(es) of white or red wine, even if your room may not be ready yet. Also, give yourself some time in the mornings to book an activity! You can book with the concierge or on their website. Love this property for tennis, golf, and pickleball. Just be mindful for tennis that some of the Colony Club members can act entitled to their court time so note that if your reservation says 9am-10am, expect that there may be people lingering into your time. Don't be afraid to let the staff know during your check in that people need to be asked to leave. You may get a dirty look from club members but a reservation is a reservation, hold your head up high and enjoy your time!

Yelp
Had lunch here at the Wine Room/Conservatory. The service was impeccable. Maria our server was fantastic, attentive, very pleasant and warm. Made our lunch experience truly enjoyable. The food was fantastic. Had the steak,, Caesars salad, pumpkin soup. friends had chicken , burger etc. Everything was delicious. I didn't care much for their desserts. It's seems to be a limited dessert menu. The views are fantastic. Would love to return if we had another opportunity to be in the area.

Yelp
Everything was perfect. This place is definitely fancy and upscale, and reservations required. The views? Incredible! The staff? Very attentive and friendly. The food? Amazing!

Yelp
My husband and I came here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We have never been here before. We were excited for our stay. We have had stayed at a Ritz-Carltons before, but in different locations around the world. We especially liked the one in Kyoto, Japan. That was top notch, the best. The best one we stayed in so far. We are very familiar with Ritz-Carltons' customer service. As we drove into the property, there was a person posted at the entry. We told here we're checking in and she checked her list. We drove off and she radio the front. The valet formally addressed us by out last name and escorted us to the hallway and directed us to registration. The valet told us that the registration/main floor is the 3rd floor, the second floor is where the spa, gym, one of the restaurants/common area, and ground floor. The second floor has fire pits areas, lounge areas overlooking the coast. Beautiful scenery. The 18th hole is located there, also. There is a walking trail that is a beach access. It is a pretty long walk, though. Our room is nice. We got the upgraded room with the patio firepit. We used it at night. We sat by the fire, and it was very relaxing. Our stay was nice, but it was not perfect. The hotel is dog friendly. You see a lot of people walking their dogs. Late at night, the neighbor has a dog. They left their dog in the room and went out. The dog was barking the whole time they were gone. You can hear the dog barking at the front door, pretty much none stop. The owner of the dog didn't come back until a little after 11pm. They were gone for about two hours. We did call to complain, but nothing happened. The dog only stopped barking when the owner came back. It was very annoying.

Yelp
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary at the Ritz last night and had a lovely time because we always do, but I don't think I would recommend this property after staying there. The spa is really nice, and the service was impeccable. I was a few minutes late due to traffic, so felt a little rushed but my masseur was professional and kind and the experience was definitely relaxing. Having said that it was astronomically expensive for what it was. I had a hydrating scrub and still left with rough heels. 400.00 (including tip) later there shouldn't have been dry skin anywhere on my body. The bar outside was nice, but the bartender seemed annoyed to be there. She wasn't too friendly and I noticed that some of the guests were also put off by that. We had the tasting menu at Novio that night and it was delicious! We also had the wine pairings which were outstanding and the sommelier was excellent! Having said that, we were told that if we drank a third bottle of water we would be charged for the water! If I hadn't been tipsy and happy I would have definitely had questions about that, but I was, so I didn't ask. I've never been charged for drinking water in a restaurant before....ever. We ordered room service in the morning and the food came about an hour after being ordered...it was not steaming or fresh which was unfortunate and we were told that a delivery fee along with a 20% gratuity would be added. I'm all about gratuities being added but the delivery fee seemed odd since all room service is delivered. The grounds are pretty and well kept, but they are very beige and lack any color at all. The golf course is nice, but if you don't play golf it sort of blocks the ocean view. Overall, I think you can get better for your money in the Bay. There was too much talk about what things cost, and what would be added which made it seem more like a money factory and less luxury.

Yelp
This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. Not a bad room in the house. Everything is immaculate. The staff is so nice and accommodating. It was my anniversary weekend and they gave us a gift and a bottle of wine complimentary. It made the whole weekend special. I will definitely be back. It's also a bonus being pet friendly

Yelp
Customer service was outstanding! We stayed overnight to celebrate a friends 50th birthday and it was a great stay. Of course you pay for the ambience. Hotel is Overlooking the ocean, our room had a view of the golf course & fire pit that birthday girl requested . Complimentary drinks when checking in, we received a welcome gift of Moët, fig jam, cheese & desserts. We had eaten lunch earlier so fortunately had some leftover bread as no crackers included. We walked around the paths at the hotel to the beach. Lounged at the terrace area fire pits for awhile. In the evening we had s'mores that we planned in our room as the s'mores kit was $50+.

Yelp
This was the nicest hotel that I have ever stayed at. One wore that perfectly describes this place is, magical. Everything about this place was first class. From the pleasant smell, to the absolutely stunning scenery, and the most friendly service. We got a firepit room and it was 100% worth it. Waking up in the morning and stepping outside to see the sunrise while being warmed by your firepit was incredible. Is it crazy expensive? Yes. But it was well worth it.

Yelp
The worst hotel I've ever stayed at! We got there at 11:45am and were told by Connor to drop our card and check in at the front desk. He told us our room would be ready in 30 minutes. After eating at the conservatory for lunch, we walked around the property for a bit and went back to the front desk at 2pm. Room is still not ready. In the meantime we watched 10 white families get checked in promptly and were given options of different room availability as well as wine and welcome drinks, which were not offered us to at all. Was it because we were Asian that our room was not ready yet and weren't provided with the same type of service? We spoke with Esperence at the front desk who said it would be ready an 25 minutes. At 3:15pm room is still not ready and so f this. We cancelled our reservation at peaced out. Screw the Ritz we get better service at mid-tier hotels.

Yelp
Best NorCal beach staycation Rooms, views, food, excellent staff Shout out to the restaurant for accommodations on food allergies

Yelp
Love the florals and decor here, especially especially during Christmas time, it will take your breath away! It's pricey, as expected, but the views from the main hotel is very much worth it. I've loved staying here, the service is quite attentive. We splurge and spent a ridiculous $60 ($15 was service fee) for a s'mores kit. Bring your own items for the common fire pit areas after sunset if you wish; we saw many others doing that. The Conservatory is a great place to dine here, with a couple other restaurant options that was okay. On our Fourth of July's stay here, we had complimentary drinks in the lobby. We were bummed out that there was no place they could suggest to view fireworks in the city. Unique - bagpipe player can be seen and heard and hour before sunset. Firepit rooms - make sure the ones you get are at the main hotel. We had a room that was at the addition hotel building that was a good 1/4 mile away. What we learned (just by asking, we weren't told when we checked in) is that at the main hotel you can ask to be escorted there in a golf cart or car.

Yelp
We were at 4% power and desperately needed to charge our car! The nearest charger was located here. We asked can we use your charger if we eat here? Response: no.
