The Best Dishes Eater Philly Ate in November - Eater Philly

"There’s no social hour quite like this. For those who want to turn up, but not get turned out — this is it. The new winter social hour at the W Philadelphia in Center City (4-6 pm on weekdays) is serving less for less that’s ironically more fulfilling. Their new mini-cocktail menu is pouring up smaller versions of the classics (mini-tini, mini-rita, mini-quiri, and mini-loma) for under $10 in both alcoholic and zero-proof options. It’s the wise response for those who want to try multiple drinks without hammering their wallet — or themselves. I was impressed by the quality of these cocktails (I had the the mini-loma and mini-quiri) that hit the spot. Beverage director Isai Xolalpa, who’s a seasonal cocktail expert in his own right, doesn’t scale back from his talents even as the portion sizes differ. For example, the zero-proof mini-rita is made with a notable zero-proof agave spirit, super lime, simple syrup, and zero-proof orange liqueur. Bites wise, they are serving tasty flatbreads and “mini” versions of their popular appetizers (such as cheesesteak empanadas and crispy layered potatoes topped with trout caviar) all under $10. Translation: Come here when you want something light without lowering your upscale dining standards." - Ernest Owens

"The Ritz-Carlton, Philadelphia’s Broad Street address in Center City features a neoclassical bank building from the 1900s. It offers top-tier service, classically appointed guestrooms, Chef Richard Sandoval’s Latin-American menu at Aqimero, Richel D’ambra Spa + Salon, and a well-stocked fitness center. "Set within a century-old, Pantheon-inspired former bank building, the Ritz-Carlton, Philadelphia raises Center City living to classical heights. When the building opened in 1904, the Girard Trust marble dome was the largest in the country, and its columns and styling matched its inspiration down to its oculus 142 feet from the floor, the exact height as the Roman original. Today, every stay starts in this grandiose rotunda, where staff man the immaculately preserved bank-teller booths. Guest rooms and suites are in the attached 30-story office tower, gutted and transformed into a hotel by Ritz-Carlton. All 299 rooms and suites bring classic Ritz-Carlton elegance, with wood furnishings matching gold, sage, and pumpkin hues. High ceilings and picture windows with stunning city views enhance the vibe, while spa-style marble bathrooms have rain showers."

"Set in a former bank adjacent to City Hall, the Ritz-Carlton stands out—even on the corner of downtown Philadelphia’s busy Broad Street. The building, constructed in 1908, was designed to resemble the Pantheon, complete with large white columns, a portico entrance, and gigantic dome that towers over the stately lobby. The grandiosity extends to the interiors, too; the 301 guest rooms and suites are a study in soothing, neutral tones. All of the furnishings are comfortable and contemporary, while large windows offer downtown views and plenty of natural light. (Though, if you like your space, consider booking a spacious Superior Room or suite; if you go with the latter, you’re guaranteed access to the Club Lounge, a 30th-floor oasis with a dedicated concierge and light bites available throughout the day.)" - Regan Stephens, Katie James Watkinson

The Ritz-Carlton, Philadelphia

"Give us a little bit of background on this place: Where is it, and what's the vibe?Set in a former bank adjacent to City Hall, the Ritz-Carlton stands out—even on the corner of downtown Philadelphia’s busy Broad Street. The building, constructed in 1908, was designed to resemble the Pantheon, complete with large white columns, a portico entrance, and gigantic dome that towers over the stately lobby. What’s the crowd like?Though the price point is higher than many other local hotels, the Ritz-Carlton sees an influx of weekday warriors, weekend wedding guests, and touristy families and couples at all times. How was check in? The entrance is never without a friendly valet or bellman, and the front desk team are swift and efficient in whisking you to your room (note the guaranteed 4 p.m. check-in time, which is standard across Philly). Now, onto the good stuff: Tell us about your room. The 301 guest rooms and suites are a study in soothing, neutral tones. All of the furnishings are comfortable and contemporary, while large windows offer downtown views and plenty of natural light. Standard rooms are a bit tight at 280 square feet, so those who prefer more leg room should consider a spacious Superior Room or suite. History buffs: Book the City Hall guest room for prime views of Benny Frank. How about the little things, like the mini-bar, or the shower goodies? Anything that made your stay more comfortable? If you book a suite, you’re guaranteed access to the Club Lounge, a 30th-floor oasis with a dedicated concierge and light bites available throughout the day (breakfast, hors d’oeuvres, snacks, and evening chocolates and cordials). How about the room service, and the dining options, in general? Worth it?There’s just one on-site restaurant, Aquimero, where critically-acclaimed Chef Richard Sandoval serves Latin-American cuisine (think grilled meats, a raw bar, and ceviches) plus an extensive collection of mezcal. Expect a mix of locals and hotel guests chowing down on Brazilian short ribs, Yucatecan prawns, and pork tostadas. It’s a winning spot for dinner if you don’t feel like dining out, but for breakfast (not included) and lunch, be sure to explore some local eats. Did the staff treat you right? The Ritz-Carlton brand is known for delivering on exceptional service, and this location is no exception. Any other services or features you'd like to shout out? The Richel D’Ambra Spa & Salon is a tranquil place to while away a late afternoon or Sunday morning during your stay. If you don’t have time for a full treatment but need a quick hit of R&R, hotel guests can pay a $25 fee to use the facilities, which include a steam and sauna. So, bottom line: worth it, and why?If Insta-worthy interiors are your main hotel criteria, The Ritz-Carlton reigns supreme in Philadelphia. If you're bringing your kids, there’s no more convenient location—the hotel is within walking distance of City Hall, the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, Reading Terminal Market, and more. If a historic setting is key, prepare to walk in the footsteps of America’s forefathers—and absorb all the newfound energy that Philly has to offer." - Katie James Watkinson

Google
It's all about location here. The Ritz is first class but expensive. Room cleaning was amazing and they had nightly turn down service. All the staff was over the top friendly. One major drawback, there was literally no place to sit in the lobby. With such a beautiful atrium it would be nice to sit there for a while. But all the tables and sitting areas were reserved so you couldn't sit in the lobby without being sat by a hostess. Huh? That is just weird. When we are there for a week sometimes we just wanted to stop and check a map or gather our shopping before heading to the room or going out into the city. It was just weird. They need to make some areas of the lobby just sitting areas without all the logistics.

i absolutely loved my long weekend here! i was a little worried about the negative reviews regarding uppity staff and worn rooms, but i had no issues at all! my time at the ritz was heavenly!||the front desk was polite and helpful. i had a drink in the bar and my server was fabulous. the bar area and lobby are gorgeous! definitely hang out there!||my room was on the 6th floor because i requested a bath tub. the amenities are wonderful and housekeeping was available for all of my needs. i wanted for nothing and my room was always clean and comfortable. i loved the turn down service and walking the room to the sounds of smooth jazz....a great touch!||there were some reviews that complained about noise. this hotel is in the middle of the city! i'm a light sleeper and the traffic sounds outside did not disturb me. the hotel is in a perfect location, you are able to walk to many points of interest.||i was here for an event and the meeting rooms were beautiful. the catering food was good and the staff was professional and polite. any staff member that i encountered in the hotel was very friendly and always said hello.||my ONLY complaint is that there was no hand sanitizer to be found anywhere in the hotel. i really appreciate having it available by the elevators, and it would have been great to have in the meeting rooms as we shared some buffet meals.||i don't think i will ever be able to stay in any other hotel in philly! it was a magical weekend and i know that i will be back. highly recommend!

Google
Pros: Wonderful location, in the center of all the places to visit. Prestige lobby and beautifully maintained historical building. Front desk staff were very friendly and attentive. The complimentary 1pm checkout was great for not having to rush in the morning, so it was a nice way to end the vacation, feeling relaxed until the end of the stay. Cons: Room conditions were okay, not the best at its price range, and not as clean as their other locations. There were some areas that needed more attention. Safety seal stickers on amenity bottles were all broken, I'm not sure if it was supposed to be like that or if it's supposed to be re-sealed after the refill. There are traffic sounds that get loud at night time, but curtains help with blocking some sound.

We've stayed here on several occasions, usually during the Thanksgiving holiday when we're visiting family. Brutal cold weather I'm telling ya. ATMOSPHERE: The lobby is very grand and elegant. I believe this is the portion of the hotel was a former bank. It's pretty evident with its super high ceilings, marble everywhere and thick columns reminiscent of old-America. There's a large lobby bar decorated in beautiful, bold colors that go well with the monotonous marble color. CHECK IN: There wasn't a line during the times we've checked in. Service was professional and quick. ROOM: Very spacious. Nice views of the city. The uncomfortable and very springy mattress definitely needed to be changed, as I could feel the worn areas when laying down. Pillows were typical and too soft for me. The bathroom while spacious, has only one basin. Huge shower but water pressure was very low. I had to wait about 10 minutes for the hot water to come through on our last day there. Not sure if that's normal or because it was freezing outside. DINING: We don't normally eat in the hotel as we love to venture into the city. CLUB LOUNGE: Located on the top floor of the hotel, it offers great views of the city. The food and drink selections change daily. We had excellent service from a female concierge, who booked recommended and booked us into two very good restaurants nearby, Raw (Japanese) and El Vez (Mexican.) SERVICE: Excellent, from the valet all the way up to the club concierge. TIPS: Very central to shopping, sites & the Reading Terminal Market. We found more affordable parking in a garage about a block away at the Midtown Parking Garage.

Central location was excellent.||Unplanned stay and was relatively comfortable. The rooms could do with a little freshening but it was comfortable enough.||Breakfast was great. Not on the cheap side of course, but you know what you're signing up for at a luxury property||I had a great experience at the spa - wonderful massage.||The gentlemen at the door in the late afternoon were very pleasant and made good conversation.||Would recommend and hope I get to return some day with more time to enjoy.

Google
Beautiful hotel in a perfect location. The hotel is well kept and definitely says luxury. The staff are friendly and attentive..the lobby is grand and beautiful with a nice bar and a light show in the evening. The rooms are large with lots of space. Seating areas and chairs and a desk. The beds are cozy although a double is a little tight. They will bring up a cot if you ask though. We loved our room. The bathroom was also big. Tub, shower, and a separate toilet area. Nice toiletries and fluffy towels and a robe. Great views and perfect for seeing city hall, the local museums and historical landmarks. Plenty of great restaurants nearby as well.

Google
This hotel does not rise to the level of luxury or what you'd expect from a Ritz Carlton. I've listed the pros and cons below, but the headline to me is "the main attraction is the lobby and location, but little attention to details that make an elevated stay." That being said, I don't think the price is justified for this hotel. Pros: -Location! In a great spot to walk anywhere - Independence Hall, convention center, Reading Market, dinner, bars, etc. -Beautiful lobby (pretty much the main attraction of this hotel) -Aquimero, the restaurant in the lobby, is yummy. Was always able to get a table with little wait. -Staff was wonderful - housekeeping was prompt, kind. Check-in was smooth. I know they have good and kind workers here. Neutral: rooms are fine. Nothing "wow-factor" but not really anything to complain about. Cons: -I can't get over how thin and cheap the toilet paper is. How are you going to be a Ritz Carlton and have the thinnest and cheapest toilet paper in the rooms?! -Water pressure in the shower was minimal, and this takes away a whole star for me. I can't stand low water pressure and showers take forever. Again, not feeling luxurious waiting for shampoo to get rinsed out for 10 minutes. -Need slow-close toilet lids. Again, attention to details -Thin sheets/bedding. I was freezing and really didn't have any big comforter to keep me warm. -Wondering why there was a shower AND separate bath in our room. Could easily remove the bath and extend the vanity/bigger bathroom space. -WHY is there no balcony or rooftop spot for this hotel? I would add a whole star if there was a viewpoint of the city here.

Google
The building itself is absolutely beautiful — classic and elegant, which is what you’d expect from the Ritz-Carlton name. Unfortunately, that’s where the luxury ended for me. The breakfast was quite underwhelming — not tasty at all and certainly not what I expected from a hotel of this level. I also had issues with service: I asked the valet to charge my electric car, and while he took the adapter, he never actually plugged it in or followed up. Additionally, I requested an extra towel, and it took over an hour to arrive. Overall, the setting is impressive, but the service and attention to detail were disappointing.

Yelp
ttended a beautiful wedding here with fantastic food and a well-designed layout. However, the check-in was slow, our room key didn't work, and cleanliness fell short--definitely sticking with the Four Seasons for future stays.

Yelp
It's the most wonderful time of the year, and that means it's the right time to stop into the Ritz for one of their special hot chocolates! They are huge, decadent, and perfect for sharing (I honestly don't think I could finish one myself!). The Christmas decorations all around the lobby set the perfect ambiance to go along with the festive drink! If you're looking for an ~adult~ beverage, the espresso martinis are also delicious! The only downside of this perfect Christmas spot is that it is very popular, so you will likely be waiting for a table & service is very slow. If you're not in a rush, however, I definitely recommend the pop-in! Food: N/A Drinks: A Service: C+ Ambiance: A

Yelp
Ritz-Carlton is a storied, almost hallowed name in the hospitality business. The main strength of this Ritz-Carlton are perhaps its staff--with some notable exceptions. First, the hotel's location is unbeatable. The architecture of the building with its huge columns awe-inspiring. But the lobby of the hotel has a bluish carpet whose best days are clearly long past. The lobby has a lounge, a bar & a restaurant and sees a high traffic volume. So the carpet gets worn out quickly. One of our rooms was a single king with city view (view of neighboring buildings & street). It was large & felt spacious. The other room was had 2 queen beds & felt very cramped for two. Some suggestions: 1) Move the magnifying mirror in bathroom down a bit. I am about 5'11" and had difficulty seeing myself well enough to shave. Imagine the difficulty a 5' woman would have! 2) Shower needs grab bars. Shower floor gets slippery with soap. Need grab bars & anti-slip treatment of shower floor tiles. 3) Install exhaust fan in toilet room. Restaurant is expensive but food is good. One evening we were relaxing in the lounge with a nice big pot of tea. When we asked waiter for a second cup, he rudely tells us he would charge us for two teas, even though he had just brought us a big pot of tea which had at least 4 cupfuls of tea in it. Needless to say, he was corrected by his manager after we made an inquiry with the manager.

Yelp
Could be the worst Ritz Carlton we ever stayed at. When you hear Ritz you think the best of the best- this is a big let down On the surface it is beautiful property and in a great part of the city The check in person seriously was clueless about everything. But we finally checked in The upgraded king room was so small and the bathroom has no counter space. Not good for two people. There is a separate room for the toilet which has no fan to exhaust the bathroom. Fortunately we had a book of matches We went down to the bar late night. Ordered a glass of red wine that was way under poured and served in a champagne flute - seriously? For $23 a glass I was ripped off The turkey club was not good. The meat was fresh but I would not call what they served me a turkey club. And we had it with a side salad in place of fries and the server brought three dressings. Every single dressing- that is made in house was not edible to put on a salad so we asked for oil and vinegar Also the server was very forgetful and slow service Almost forgot- although the AC works- it gets loud in the middle of the night as if there is a huge down pour of rain. Very annoying I can go on- but this definitely is not a Ritz Carlton that lives up to their good reputation. I feel violated for what they charge for this hotel and how poorly managed it is. I would have rather stayed at their sister Marriott property Do yourself a favor and go to the Four Seasons or other property

Yelp
Beautiful and historic hotel in the heart of Philadelphia! A must-stay! Service is unbeatable and rooms are so nice and charming.

Yelp
Amazing location in the heart of Center City! I stayed here while in town for an event at the Liacouras. The RC staff treated me to a bday surprise of cake and champagne as it was my bday. The valet was easily accessible and convenient. Room service for breakfast was also amazing. I recommend a stay here!
google avatar

Briana N.

Yelp
Popped into the bar area for light bites and some drinks. Cocktails were priced about the same as anywhere else downtown. They had really good bar food options, but only have them available at certain / limited times. It is a cool vibe for a hotel and not a bad spot for a happy hour.
google avatar

TaNeisha J.

Yelp
This property is in dire need of renovations. I love beautiful hotels that are modern, updated, elegant but still have a bit of character. While this Ritz-Carlton has character, it misses the mark on modern finishes. As you enter, you're greeted by a beautiful atrium with a well-serviced and stocked bar; and, check-in was smooth. Entering the guest room was underwhelming. While it is spacious, and relatively "nice," it is simply dated. I do think there are other comparable hotels in close proximity that are more deserving of your money!

Michelle S.

Yelp
Absolutely terrible customer service. It is impossible to get in touch with any of the management. My experience with this hotel has been so disappointing. Considering how expensive this place is, I would expect the customer service to be impeccable, and it has been the exact opposite.

Yelp
The Ritz Carlton Philadelphia is always-ALWAYS a wonderful experience. The atmosphere is always extremely clean, professional, and inviting. The staff are amazingly accommodating-especially Mimoza in the concierge lounge-I was so thrilled to see her still there after all this time. The food of course is 5 star-never a question. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Horrible horrible service last night. Came for a night out after dinner. Ordered drinks from bar and tried to sit down at the chairs in the bar area. Approached by a short cocktail waitress that acted so insane I would compare her to a chihuahua biting your ankles after sitting down, getting a drink at the bar and she came over to us yelling that we had to get up it's for service customers only. First of all we would have stayed for more than one drink and would have ordered from service. The waitress should explain this is for service customers and ask if we wanted a drink. We left and spent our money at Dolce next door. I will never come back. This was my go to spot for business cocktails and brunch.

Alyssa C.

Yelp
For a $1400 a night stay you expect perfection. My tub the water was brown great call the engineer say they will be there in ten minutes come an hour later to tell me I need to just run the water. Go up to the club with my family are the only table not greeted. Not until I give the man twenty dollars on the table does he begin to interact with me to tell me about the breakfast. Really sad and unfortunate experience at one of my favorite brands.

Yelp
Disappointing experience at Sparkling Pink at the Ritz Carlton. The hype from social media didn't match reality. The venue was cramped, questioning the steep ticket price. Despite buying five tickets, we were initially split up, only reuniting when another group left. When we purchased the tickets, it stated food and light bites, it recently changed to say snacks. But snacks is an understatement. There was the blandest version of trail mix available for our table and three donut holes. The complimentary drink was very watered down. Decor was nice, and the scenery worked for photos, but the unfriendly bar service left much to be desired. Ignored when requesting shots, we wrapped up early. Even getting a simple group photo was a struggle as the bartender seemed reluctant. Not worth the time or money. One star was what this deserved I generously gave two because of the decor and photos we took were beautiful.#SparklingPinkDisappointment

Yelp
What a gorgeous hotel in the heart of Philly! This was my first time spending time in Philadelphia, and we got lucky staying here just across from Philly's epic City Hall. We were in town for a wedding that was taking place at the Ritz, so staying here was the easy choice. We arrived around 5pm and entered the grand lobby space. It was busy! The space to actually check into the hotel was rather small, and with only two people working, the line was moving pretty slow despite only having 3-4 folks in line ahead of us. After about 20 minutes of waiting, we were able to check in and were actually upgraded (shout out to my dads loyalty points) which we were grateful for. Unfortunately, our room key didn't work and we had to go back down to the lobby to get it fixed. Luckily, the staff checking in was super friendly and fixed the issue quickly. The rooms were nice, though a bit on the smaller side. The bathrooms had a shower, tub, and a water closet! Super spacious and great for getting ready. The wedding reception took place in the grand ballroom which was in the the lowest level. Oh my gosh, it was so gorgeous! The food and service was exceptional. Overall, really nice time here at the Ritz-Carlton.

Yelp
Stayed here for one night and the service was great. We used the valet and the bell hop and both were wonderfully. Check in was a breeze, seems like the upgraded rooms are deluxe views. We didn't get our welcome gift up front as they ran out but was able to get us the gift which was a box of chocolates. The location was great and close to reading terminal market and across from city hall. Beds were comfortable but the room was a bit tight with our stroller and the extra crib we asked for. All in all a good stay

Yelp
I understand this is an old bank building, but it doesn't mean the hotel hardware should be old. The complaints we have: - Light switch has only one level, once you turn off the main one, the entire room's outlet is off. We have two kids and wanted to use the white noise machine, nope! Same with the light switch in bathroom, either beaming lights or dark. - Speaking of bathroom, with a two bed room, it doesn't even have double vanity sink. The shower head doesn't have a separate handheld head. Not to to mention the water pressure was below average. - Valet was slow given the price ($60 per night including tax). We called ahead, was quoted 20min, waited in our room before we went down and still had to wait longer to get our car. - We only had two small suitcases so easy to carry. But when we first arrived, there a couple bellmen standing around, they said hi but neither offered to carry our suitcases up the stairs. Overall this hotel is way below the "Ritz" standard we are used to. Needs some major upgrade to the rooms and probably need to train the staff better.

Yelp
I was following a post on where to find the best Espresso Martini and they had the Ritz as one of the spots. This was our second stop of the day. Funny story we we're actually trying to find the W but got lost and it started sprinkling and the Ritz was right in front of us. Our bartender Will went above and beyond on taking care of my friends and I. The lobby bar was contemporary. The ambience was nice. Will made me my espresso martini that beat Parcs espresso martini where we came from. Also he made a great old fashioned. The experience we had here was incredible. Thank you Will for making sure our drinks came out to my liking . Truffle fries was a hit for a snack while drinking. Definitely will make my way back here again.

Charles S.

Yelp
Rooms were outdated and service was poor. Was expecting something similar to the Rittenhouse or Four Seasons, but was no where close. If you are looking for a luxury experience, I'd certainly go with either of those before here.
google avatar

Nick T.

Yelp
I had an absolute blast, felt incredibly safe the whole entire time and really got to sit in the lap of luxury! The only thing I ordered was $16 worth of truffle fries. They were all I needed to get through the night because of how delectable and filling they were!!

Kevin K.

Yelp
I stayed for 4 nights while attending a conference. It was delightful. The service was exceptional. I enjoyed every minute of my stay. I hope to come back!

Tessa N.

Yelp
The hotel is in a great location and is walking distance to a lot. Beautiful lobby and bar area to get drinks. The room was nice but needs a little updating compared to other Ritz I have stayed at. The price was cheaper then other Ritz though. The mini fridge was just sitting on the floor in the room and then the bar with drinks was not refrigerated so they weren't cold. The main complaint I have is that there is no baby changing table in the lobby bathroom. My husband and another father with an infant had to change the babies on the floor because there's no changing tables in any of the restrooms.

Beth W.

Yelp
Jasmine was lovely during our brunch. No rush. All great attitude and service. Food was good. Not the most mind blowing, but tasty and fun. And that bottomless brunch experience includes a lot! Get the pancakes. So good.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this hotel. Beautiful hotel and the staff was incredibly helpful. Would definitely recommend this hotel to both the business and leisure traveler.

Yelp
Attended a wonderful wedding at this venue: food was fantastic, setting and layout was logical and well done. Check in process was slow and clumsy, our door key didn't unlock our room, and the bathroom was not cleaned thoroughly. Room service was priced too high for the quality of the food. We are going to be sticking to the Four Seasons for our stays.

T P.

Yelp
This review is specifically for the Pink Room at the Ritz. The aesthetic is lovely -- they really crushed it. We got some great photos, so brava to the Ritz for putting together such a fun experience. With that said, I'm giving it 2 stars. The hospitality was really quite poor. The staff was so focused on reminding us that we're only there for a limited time, it essentially sucked the fun right out of it. Not only that, the bar tender acted more like a hall monitor, refusing to make drinks toward the end of our "time," even though you are more than welcome to take your drinks with you to the hotel lobby. We had 20 minutes left and wanted to split a bottle of champagne between 7 of us, but the bartended decided we didn't have the time to drink it. Extremely off-putting and rude. In summary, we paid $45 for trail mix with wasabi peas, a couple of donuts and macaroons, one drink that was pre-selected for us, a rude bar tender, and a constant reminder that "our time is almost up!" I sure hope they do a better job and let people relax if they bring this back next year. The room is worth a visit, but the experience left a bad taste in all of our mouths.

Well I have stayed at a ritz before, not sure what is going on with this hotel. Elevators are in poor working condition, printer does not work for a boarding gate pass, and overall the hotel seems old and worn out. The staff is nice but a price if $200 per day for the club? No benefit to be a Marriott elite with this property. Overall ho him, no big deal, a whatever.

Yelp
Just got home from a wonderful stay. My room was beautiful, the staff was wonderful. I cannot say enough about Danielle and Ryan at the lobby bar. They were both so personable and kind, gave me recommendations on places to eat and see, and all of their recommendations were perfect! The food and the drinks there in the hotel were great as well. I found myself eating in the hotel more than I had planned because of Danielle.

Yelp
Well, it's the Ritz! I visited Aqimero hoping for a perfect date night in a new city and it did not disappoint. The ambiance and emphasis on pink was awesome. I believe it's only running through July '22 so I certainly recommend making an opentable reservation soon. A bonus, was Aqimero posted my partner's Instagram reel on their page.

Yelp
If I had known how beautiful this hotel was and how beautiful this city was, I would have stayed here at the beginning of our vacation and not the end. This Ritz is hands down the most beautiful out of the multiple ones we have stayed at. The service was top notch and the views from our room were breathtaking. I can't wait to come back and stay longer.

Yelp
I had the opportunity to stay at the Ritz for one night through my Amex Platinum card. As soon as I got there, the staff were very friendly and they upgraded my room! Overall it was a beautiful hotel with a stunning view of city hall, in close proximity to many fun activities. I ordered room service and it was delivered promptly 20 minutes later. The quesadillas were pretty good! The only delay I had was when I arrived to valet my car, and when I was waiting for the valet to return my car. I don't know if I would stay here again purely because of the steep price, however I did enjoy my stay.

Yelp
Lovely lobby and public spaces. Good food in restaurants. Hospitable staff. The guest rooms are old and beat up

Yelp
This was our first stay at a Ritz Carlton and while it was nice I wasn't blown away. I felt like the room was a bit small and the amenities weren't really there This stay was for our anniversary and honestly next time I'll look elsewhere.

Yelp
We stayed here last weekend for a friend's wedding. Her wedding was not on the property, but our friends chose to stay here since the Ritz is usually a great choice. We were not blown away by this location. The rooms were not up to par with the typical Ritz experience. The servers were clearly short staffed, and some were rather rude. Our orders at the restaurant were not right, and when we asked for them to be corrected were met with attitude. We did have one fantastic server who treated us to a round of drinks for our friends birthday! Huge shout out to her for going above and beyond for making her day special. We got blow outs at the spa for $125, and was not worth that at all. Overall, I'd look otherwise when staying in Philadelpha. This is not your typical Ritz hotel.

Yelp
Is there such a thing as customer service anymore? Waited in the lobby for a cup of tea for so long that I got up to find it myself. The lobby is huge and feels like you're in Grand Central Station. Needs to have some big plants for ambiance and a fire place would be nice. Only one waitress for the restaurant ....and lobby!!!! Food is extremely limited and not good. More like a small list of appetizers. Zero customer service. Room was nice but no coffee machine and no fridge! When you pay top dollar for a nice hotel you expect service. This should not be under the Ritz name.

Yelp
There's something about this location that doesn't scream Ritz-Carlton. When we first arrived I found that that I had to chase down a valet driver. Normally, there are employees out front that are clearly identified but not here. The luggage carts are at the top of 10 stairs and as result, they cannot be brought down to your car. The bellman offered to carry my bags up the stairs but honestly I prefer to load my own luggage since I know what should go on top. Additionally, since we were traveling with a stroller I had to carry it up the stairs, assemble it, grab my son out of the car and carry him up to place him in. For what it's worth there IS a "handicap" entrance but it's on another street and you have to ring a bell to get someone's attention to open the door. Upon check-in we discovered that the microwave and fridge we requested weeks in advance were not present. They were able to bring one up in about 15 minutes so no major issue there. Outside our door was a guy who was sitting on the floor. From overhearing his conversation he was frustrated that his door was not opening and the hotel had not sent anyone up let him in. I believe he was already checked in and his stuff was stuck inside. Yikes! The lobby is beautiful and the staff is equally helpful. We ordered room service which is your typical overpriced bar food. I paid roughly $35 for a burger and fries but hey, that's Ritz baby. When we called for our car it was always present by the time we got down so that was a major plus. The spa services were really nice too. I purchased a 30 minute therapeutic massage and all went well there. Leaving was a breeze because we were granted a 4PM checkout so we were plenty rested. Unfortunately, the front desk said their system was down so they were unable to provide a receipt to me. I always like to check the charges to the room BEFORE I leave. I eventually got a PDF copy emailed to me a few hours later and everything was correct. The Ritz is doing the best they can based on the location and age of the building but if you're someone who is expecting an over-the-top experience you're not getting it here. For that reason I rated it just "OK".

Yelp
Went here for breakfast (not knowing brunch does not start until noon) and was extremely disappointed with the quality of food. Everything that was brought out was lukewarm or cold, including the coffee which we sent back once. While the service was good, the food just didnt match the ambiance.

Yelp
The result of forcing hotels to take in the homeless really shows in this dump of a luxury hotel. Yes, the old bank building still has a beautiful lobby and bar, but the rooms are absolutely awful and nowhere near what one would expect from the Ritz-Carlton brand. In my room, as well as the room of my coworkers, any and all things not nailed down have been removed. No artwork on the walls, just bare walls with visible screws where decorations once hung. The wallpaper is clearly peeling. The crown molding is just molding! Seriously disgusting and sad. The water from the sink is one temperature, and it's scalding! The low flow shower is annoying, this ain't California, why are we unable to rinse shampoo out? There is no refrigerator nor microwave to utilize for reheat late-night munchies. The bellhop stands outside smoking, chatting with the janitor, while watching you and your wife carry luggage up the stairs. Fairly sure that's what they're paid to help with, but this guy couldn't be bothered to help in the rain. The location is fine in the dead of winter, but once spring rolls around, the entire area becomes a sketchy mess of drug addicts and criminals. Just avoid this place. The second star is for the valet parking where at least you know no one is going to steal or vandalize your luxury vehicle. They call it Filthadelphia for a reason. This place is just gross!

Yelp
I am extremely disappointed and disgusted with the ritz. This is the first time I have experienced a 3 day cancellation policy without booking a special rate. Normally, there is a 24 hour policy for standard rate which makes me take the other negative reviews about this property seriously. They must be struggling because of all of the previous issues described. My experience is directly related to the staff who were quick to deny and unwilling to discuss other solutions for my cancellation. I had illness in my family and my nephew unexpectedly passed away on the day that I called to cancel. My call was 55 hours prior to check in to see if I could cancel my reservation. They unapologetically said no. My room was cancelled and I still paid the full amount. It's just such a shame that the desk staff and management feel the need to have no leeway or flexibility with family emergency situations. I have stayed at hotels all over the world am platinum Marriott and diamond with Hilton. This shows a lack of customer service and care. I do not recommend booking with this hotel.

Yelp
I very much enjoyed my stay at this historic hotel! The hotel bar is lovey to enjoy after a long day exploring the city- though sometimes the wait can be long to get your drink. Our room had a gorgeous view looking down the city streets plus a huge bath tub to enjoy! The curtain in the room didn't work but I found a way to enjoy the view in my bubble bath. Fun fact: the stairs leading down to the grand ballroom are slightly grooved from the gowns of women's dresses! Beat!

Yelp
The hotel is beautiful. i stay at Ritz when ever I can, the philly staff is underwhelming, from the calling to the front desk, and the fast speaking almost close to rude woman. I had simple questions and she rattled off answer without asking to help. I dont know if I will ever visit again.

Yelp
I am attending an ABA Conference on Fidelity Claims and Litigation. Have been here many times in the past but never yelped. The lobby of this old bank is quite imposing and very beautiful. The domed roof in the lobby is quite impressive and it is worth a stop just to have a cocktail and sit. Bellman and staff everywhere. Never had to open a door. Everyone smiling. The Conference is being held on the first level down from the lobby. Spacious, marble and granite everywhere. A perfect location for a lawyer conference. Breakfast was elaborate. I of course went with my standard eggs, bacon & potatoes. They were perfect and the bacon was maple honey quite tasty. Staff were everywhere, tending to various needs. The Conference seems well attended as the meeting room on the lower level accommodates ~250. First time for me attending a Conference here. ABA is not sparing the shekels. Mark.

Yelp
The Ritz is supposed to be the best!! Times have changed... When the water wouldn't get warm for a shower... We were told to let the water run for about 10 minutes and if that didn't work to also cut the warm water in the sink on too. After 10 minutes of running the shower and the sink... we were finally able to shower. The black mold in our room was unreal. I couldn't believe they allow people to stay in a room with mold! I advised the front desk. Clearly they must not know or they would have taken care of it, right? I wasn't impressed with The Ritz... not for for $457/night! Ridiculous!!! The front desk wasn't really that concerned either. She offered to have someone come "take a look at it!" I was over the conversation and the stay by the time we got to that offer. We won't be back.

Yelp
I stayed in this hotel years ago when my dad went to a conference. The rooms are exactly what you would expect from the Ritz. It has an incredibly central location, it actually helped me fall in love with travel. Fun fact, the first NFL draft was held here!

Yelp
Price: 2 Location: 5 Service: 2 Recognition of status: 2 Value: 2 Bottom line: Stay somewhere else like the Notary or J.W. Marriott. We stayed here to celebrate an anniversary. Thinking this would be the pinnacle of a Marriott stay. It wasn't. I called two weeks ahead of time to ask for a high floor upgrade because of my titanium elite status. They said they notated it. One week prior to the trip I called and spoke with Jordan at the Philadelphia Ritz, who confirmed the notes. Upon arrival, I was welcomed and I asked for the upgrade, the attendants indicated they would try. After having to go the back room to speak to a manager, they said they were able to accommodate my request. They said I was upgraded to a superior room from my deluxe room. I asked what that meant, they said the room was larger and had a separate shower and bath. I asked was it on a high floor they said oh yes. I get to the room on the 10th floor where I can still hear the traffic noise. I called the front desk and asked if there was a higher floor even if the room was smaller. They said the manager was not here (@ 3pm? When s/he was there 10 minutes prior!), but they would leave a note. I also asked for a blanket and an extra pillow. They acknowledged and said they would take care of the rest. 3 hours later I called to check the status of the blanket and they said they didn't have the request. I then used the app to request the very same. Another hour later, we left for dinner. Upon our return, I stopped by the front desk to ask for an update on both requests, no action yet. I left frustrated and over it. Not waiting to have to devote any more emergency on my anniversary to this, we went back to our room. Next morning I woke up after not sleeping well due to traffic noise, and they still haven't contacted us about either the change of room nor the blanket. So much for exceptional service. At this point, I find this place NOT worth the price and the experience has been sub-par to say the least. Stay elsewhere where they know what service means like the J.W. Marriott.

Yelp
I'm a fan of Ritz-Carlton (RC)brand as there reputation in customer service and accommodations are well exceeds par. Disappointingly, the Philadelphia RC did not meet my expectation. The highlight was there were 2 weddings on New Year's eve so the hotel was festive, lively and decorated accordingly. The club lounge was small and the selections were limited for those with healthier dietary preferences. The beauty in the club level was the backdrop of the vintage wooden walls carved to mid-century specifications. We were upgraded to a suite and without coming off ungrateful, I was underwhelmed as the room did not seem modern or updated. So, I was a bit underwhelmed. Additionally, the water temperature was luke warm at best and for the reputation and cost, this was utterly unacceptable. The best part of the stay was the mattress was divine as I sunk into a cloud of firm fluffiness. Additionally, we had a great view of the Mummer's Day parade on New Year's day. So, if all of the above was not enough, after I checked out, I was billed for items I did not have. Even after I spoke with front desk staff who was to make the correction, it took multiple calls for an actual correction to be made. Sadly, the stay at the Philadelphia RC was disappointing and I canceled 2 future reservations as I think there a better options in the city.

Yelp
So Ehhhhhhhhh is all I can say. Sadly. Its a lovely lobby and lovely service but...but...the rooms were not Ritz special. It could have been any Marriott or Hampton room...in any city...anywhere. The architecture is great...location amazing but not anniversary level special or particularly special for the business traveler. So it's the Ritz and it's ehhhhh

Yelp
Beautiful lobby, spacious, great location to everywhere which is key when you are here for work. Comfortable bedding, nice amenities, bath products, and all, but sending a California Tott's sparkling wine to your room? Seriously? You are the Ritz-Carlton, NOT a motel 6?!? Don't give cheap stuff like this... when I can get at 7-11 for $5 a bottle! Come on, you can do better than this! Who's a GM here of Food & Beverage Director, you should be ashamed of this kind of service! And it wasn't my anniversary? I'm sure they sent to the wrong room! HA. Nothing about seeing the Tott's bottle in the room make me feel luxurious, 5 stars, or excellent, NOPE. Some might say the thought that count, but as an Ambassador Marriott Bonvoy, I feel a little violated and insulted!
