The Rook - Review - Manayunk - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"This house-like neighborhood bar has cozy wood interiors and a nice outdoor space where you can get one of the city's top smashburgers, and drinks with friends. Located far enough up Main Street that you’re not in the middle of the action, the walls of TV’s, large bar space, and polished interiors don’t take away from the t-shirt-heavy atmosphere. Pair your beer with the melt-in-your-mouth cheesesteak and crispy wings before returning to a day of nearby bicycle and record shops. photo credit: Nicole Guglielmo photo credit: Nicole Guglielmo photo credit: Nicole Guglielmo photo credit: Nicole Guglielmo video credit: Nicole Guglielmo Pause Unmute Food Rundown Wings It’s always a good thing when these crispy, buffalo sauce-soaked wings make their way to your table. They’re fried to a point where the skin is almost magnetized to the meat, so there’s always a satisfying crunch. The honey habañero are pretty good, too. photo credit: Nicole Guglielmo The Big Parm Smashburger Sometimes, especially in this town, there’s a compulsion to add red sauce to things where it's really not needed. A cheesesteak? Once in a while, sure. A hot dog at the Phillies game? We’ve seen it happen. And this smashburger is just the latest in a long run of marinara experiments. The final verdict: it’s a tower of fried mozzarella, two patties, and parm that’s not worth ruining your favorite shirt over. photo credit: Nicole Guglielmo The “O” Double Smashburger This is a timeless smashburger. The patties are smashed enough to get a nice sear on them, and the seeded bun soaks up all of the beefy juiciness. Topped with american cheese, onions, and ketchup, it’s a classic you’ll want to have in your hand while celebrating a home run, or just when you need a burger fix. photo credit: Nicole Guglielmo Veggie Burger They do their best to dress up these nicely charred pea patties. There’s american cheese, chipotle mayo, and a garden of tomatoes, avocado, crispy onion rings, and arugula layered throughout. There’s a messiness to the whole thing that you might expect. But it makes for a creamy, tangy win. photo credit: Nicole Guglielmo Cheesesteak We get it. You have to have a cheesesteak at least once a week. And this one hits the mark: tender shaved ribeye and cooper sharp on a long seeded roll. It has all the cheesy, mushy, and intoxicating richness you’d expect from a cheesesteak. photo credit: Nicole Guglielmo" - Candis R. McLean

We stopped here, for what else, but to rate a cheesesteak! The cheesesteak is chopped ribeye with cooper sharp cheese and we added fried onions. It is served in a seeded Sarcone roll. It’s crazy how different cheesesteaks can taste from one place to another and this one was so bland/boring. For drinks, a Cosmopolitan was ordered (with extra cranberry 🤷🏻‍♂️), The Rita and Mezcal Old Fashioned. Our mom mom ordered the Cosmopolitan and really enjoyed it. The Rita was soooo sour. It tasted like whoever made it, didn’t know how to make one. The Mezcal Old Fashioned….I love old fashioned drinks of all kinds…this one was rough. It tasted like what I imagine @Johnny Depp would smell like; overly smokey and leathery (sorry Johnny no shade). The building itself was nice and so was the server. Stumbled upon this place for a drink and maybe some food. WOW, their menu is super interesting, sandwiches are fire and sweet potato fries were great! Some of the best food I've had in a bar. Plus they had lots of great beer options available and the service was outstanding. Kudos to the owners! When I'm back in this area, I'll be stopping by.

I sat at the bar for a quick dinner by myself. The old fashioned was absolutely perfect. I asked the bartender for his quick food recommendation. He recommended the wings in the homey habanero sauce. I got them with a side of blue cheese and let me tell you they blew me out of the water. Fall off the bone goodness. The blue cheese dressing made in house was the perfect addition. Will return on my next business trip to Philly.

Came here before at night but the crowd of people scared me away(I hate crowds sorry) We came here again during happy hour and was delighted by the chill vibes and friendly service. Their happy hour special bangs so you should def come here then, The food was thoroughly enjoyed especially the Brie, jam, and crisp bread. Yum. French onion soup was good as well, and my friend stuck to his loyalty to burgers but it was good as well. Overall good experience, will be coming back and my server was very sweet too. She had a very detailed tattoo on her arm. Hope you get this credit you were awesome.

Google
The food has always been a little hit or miss here but lately it has been on a significant downward trajectory. Tonight was the worst. I ordered a cutlet sandwich and sweet potato fries. The bread was clearly not fresh, tasted stale. The fries were all overcooked and essentially burnt. The draft list also used to be much better. I am not sure I will return in the near future with all the other options in Manayunk. Service is also pretty hit or miss with a lot of misses lately.

Google
Their food was so good and the atmosphere was exactly what I was looking for, cozy, but enough space that it didn’t feel claustrophobic. Jackie was our bartender and she was phenomenal. She made sure to put extra love & care into our drinks. We will definitely be returning!

Oh man I want to love this place but I'm hesitant based on the level of service I experienced. My 2 friends and I sat at the bar and everything was fine until the bartenders switched around 5. We went from an attentive and friendly server to a disinterested one that smelled like weed vape. Let me be clear, I don't give a whatever about the weed thing, but this bartender legit ignored us for 15+minutes, looking at his phone or dapping up new patrons. At one point, my friends and I counted 6ppl behind the bar after we had finished drinks and no one had offered us a refill. We legit had to wave to get this one bartenders attention which felt gross. I've never had a bartender clear my beer silently and never inquire if I wanted a new one. My friends and I usually like to stay at a space when we get together but the lack of attention and service led us to leave after only a few drinks. Food was great! Sucks their bartenders were so inattentive

My girlfriend and I came in for just a beer. We ended up getting food. Everything was great :) you should come here

Yelp
I was visiting Philadelphia and wanted to find a spot close to my hotel for dinner and a drink. After searching Yelp, I made the 2 mile walk (not all pedestrian friendly) to The Rook. Don't worry, there is street parking if you don't want to walk. The exterior gives you historical, cozy vibes, which carries into the interior. It's a bit on the smaller side, but has a good mix of bar and tabletop seating. It looks like they may also have patio seating when the weather is nice. I was there during their happy hour, which was 3-6pm and included 20% off of food and a few different drink specials (obviously this is subject to change). I ordered a Tito's and pineapple, which wasn't a part of happy hour, but was still reasonably priced. I wasn't crazy hungry, so I opted for a side of fries and a Caesar salad. To my surprise, they have huge portions there, so I ended up taking my salad to go. The fries were crisp and definitely worth the price! The Caesar was perfectly dressed and had a strong garlic flavor, which I personally appreciate. Again, definitely priced well, especially during happy hour. As my meal went on, many regular patrons came and went, so this definitely seems to be a neighborhood favorite.

Yelp
Disappointed by Service and Hygiene Standards Despite a Promising First Impression I'm only writing this review after several unsuccessful attempts to contact a manager since July 10th. I visited The Rook on July 9th for a happy hour meetup, and while the restaurant initially impressed me with its clean, crisp aesthetic both outside and inside the overall experience was deeply disappointing. We chose The Rook after researching restaurants in Manayunk and were optimistic based on the menu and atmosphere. Upon arrival, we sat at the bar, which only had a few other patrons at the time. Unfortunately, the bartender's behavior quickly became a concern. She seemed disengaged with us but warmly interacted with someone she appeared to know personally. I tried to brush off the dismissiveness, assuming it was generational differences in service approach but what followed was unacceptable. While chatting with her acquaintance, the bartender inexplicably began stretching behind the bar, placing her gray and orange sneaker directly on a stainless steel surface used for drink preparation. She then continued to stretch in a lunge-like position, her shoe repeatedly making contact with the food prep surface. We were stunned. She later wiped the same area with a cloth while still stretching and used that same cloth to clean other bar surfaces. When she finally approached our end of the bar, I asked why she had her foot on a food prep surface. She brushed it off, claiming it was "the wall." When I clarified it was the stainless steel counter, not the wall, she dismissively responded, "If it bothers you, I'll stop," and walked away using the same cloth again to wipe other surfaces. Beyond the hygiene concerns, the food was less then subpar. The burger seemed to be a thin low quality patty; lettuce, tomato and mayo were all a dollar extra. The chicken strips were overcooked with burn tips, dry and not just lacking taste but tasteless, and too hard to eat. The fries were good. The drinks were well-made, but another major issue was the smell near the restrooms. As we approached the far end of the bar, there was a noticeable old urine or latrine odor, and even a faint smell of raw sewage. It was incredibly off-putting. I had hoped to speak with a manager directly before posting this publicly, but since I never received a call back despite leaving a message, I feel compelled to share this experience. To summarize: * Poor service and dismissive attitude from the bartender * Alarming lack of hygiene behind the bar * Strong, unpleasant odors near the restroom area * Underwhelming food * The only positives were the decor, French fries and the drinks Unfortunately, despite its attractive appearance, I can't recommend The Rook based on this experience.

Yelp
The drinks and food are super good here! They have fun special drinks around the holidays and they're yummy. They have an outside area with more space but it gets sooo crowded in here during busy hours The reason for stars off is that the bartenders are not attentive at all, a good bartender can clock who is waiting first and I had to wait 40-50 mins for a drink. The bar is two sided and they ignored me standing there the entire time. Someone came next to me and rudely flagged them down and I finally got a drink. They definitely saw me and made eye contact and I put my hand up a little and they went back to what they were doing and then proceeded to avoid eye contact with me so they didn't have to serve me

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday afternoon with a party of 3 and sat in the open area in the back. Nice breeze came through and there was sports playing on the TVs. Service was great and super nice waitress was helpful along the whole way. My boy blue burger was very tasty. The bacon jam was different than what I've had previously at other restaurants but I still loved it. Got more in the side to go with the crispy shoestring fries. My girlfriend's chicken sandwich was a hefty sandwich. Thick pieces of chicken that was fried perfectly. Bacon on the side for me is a bonus. Drinks were great and my girlfriend said little heavy 10/10

Yelp
The Rook is fantastic! The menu is solid and the food is delicious. I love a good French onion soup and boy did theirs deliver! The cheese was bubbly and melty and the bread and soup were just so comforting and enjoyable. They have two versions of cheese whiz and while the long hot is too hot for me, I'm certain it would be great for someone with a higher tolerance for spice but the Parmesan and pepper one was perfect for me and was such a nice accompaniment to my old bay fries. The waitress was so sweet, there was a slight delay in getting refills when things got busy but that's to be expected. They have great deals during games and overall such a fun pleasant Philly vibe. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Hope you like surprises, cuz you'll find plenty in this loud Yo Bro neighborhood bar. There are no prices on any of the beverage menus. Surprise! The Umbria sandwich looked really good, good enough to camouflage the rubbery chewy chicken cradled in its stale toasted roll. Surprise! My check did not give the 20% off food for the HH pricing. Surprise! When I brought the error to my bartender's attention he said he would simply refund me the difference in cash. Then gave me $2.00 back when it should have been $3.00. New Math. Surprise! My Philly United by Wissahickon Brewing Company was a tasty local lager with an imported price of $8. Surprise! A one & done. Surprise!

Yelp
Great spot off the beaten path in Manayunk. Had the Honey Habanero wings and the Bear Chicken Sandwich. The wings were so good we had to order another round.

Yelp
I visited The Rook because I was looking for a brunch place in the Manayunk area on a weekend. It wasn't too difficult to get a seat as a single guest. Perhaps it was because I was seated at the bar, but it seemed like many of the patrons were visiting it as a bar/restaurant rather than a brunch-y place. It took over a half hour to get my avocado toast. Longer than expected but I'm glad that it was at least the BIGGEST avo toast I'd seen. It even has hard boiled eggs on top to boot. The avocado mash was seasoned with what appeared to be olive oil and balsamic vinegar, and the pickled onions were just the right amount of sweet and sour. Hard boiled eggs were overdone. Not the end of the world, though. I also got coffee, which was about $5 with refills. If I knew, I probably would've got my coffee from a cafe instead. I think I'd go back to try the bar food, but you're better off someplace else for brunch.

Yelp
This place just continues to get better and better! Their cutlet sandwiches are the best around. Plus the service is always fast and accurate.

Yelp
Excellent place to grab some grub, see a game, and let the good times roll. A corner bar with a medium-sized back courtyard for dining/drinking. It has some charms. Their drink menu covers the bases. Some of this, some.of that. A couple of creeper drinks that might surprise you. I like that they focus on foods you can do well, consistently, and serve in fulfilling taste and cooktime. The Habañero Honey Chipotle wings are delicious. Sweet, tangy, nice meaty wings. The cheesesteak egg rolls were very good, too. Hot and crispy. No denying that cheesesteak taste. Fries were thicker cut than normal.

Yelp
We went to the Rook based upon our neighbor's recommendation. We also went after dinner so we weren't hungry but still felt the need to order something. There were two seats at the bar and the place was humming on a Saturday night. The bartender greeted us in a friendly manner and shared her suggestions on the appetizer menu. We ordered a tray of buffalo wings which were presented promptly. Honestly, they were amazing. Fall of the bone, saucy wings which is exactly the way we like them. My husband was happy with the selection of beers and I had a great cocktail. Looking over some of the other plates that were leaving the kitchen, it appears that we need to go back. Parking can be tricky in the neighborhood so if it's possible to bike, Lyft or walk, I'd recommend it. Otherwise, a great stop.

Yelp
We had a great experience this last time around. I had the best service, the tastiest and most tender chicken wings I have ever had. Round of applause for the cheesesteak with cooper this was my favorite of the two sandwiches. Loved sitting outside/ at the bar when it's nice outside. Pay them a visit for a sports game or just a good place to grab a drink and a solid meal

Bess T.

Yelp
Staff is not super attentive, nor willing to find highchairs/booster seats, and I always have to ask for utensils/napkins... Food is usually good but there are some inconsistencies
google avatar

Norma S.

Yelp
The food and drinks were good. The staff was quick and attentive. It was crowded but we didn't wait long for a table.
google avatar

Nicole F.

Yelp
Love this place! It's such a great happy hour spot to grab a drink and the food is top notch. They have such great options for burgers, chicken cutlet sandwiches, and cheesesteaks that really step up the game!

Niki W.

Yelp
Literally the best sandwiches we have ever had. Run don't walk if you love chicken sandwiches. The bread is fresh and the sweet potato fries are phenomenal with their house made ranch.
google avatar

Tasha M.

Yelp
Maybe the 4-5 star reviews are from dining in because we got carry out and the food was blah! Ordered the wings w/ honey habanero, the black bean burger, and a honey hab. The wings were just ok. Good meat, not a lot of fat, but lacked flavor and were not spicy as we expected habanero to be. The black bean burger was AWEFUL! Super dry and crumbly and no flavor. Totally inedible and complete waste of money. The Honey hab was also just eh too. The bread was super hard and crumbly on both Chicken Cheesesteak and the black bean burger. Again, maybe it's better dining in but I have not desire to even go back and try it again as I was that unimpressed. .

Sylvia K.

Yelp
Excellent honey habanero eggplant sandwich, my favorite go to. Service is fantastic every time!

Yelp
Awesome neighborhood bar but the food is incredible. Some of the best sandwiches in Philly.

Yelp
Such a cute neighborhood place. I came here during Covid for a bridal shower out in the back patio and it was fantastic! The staff was super helpful and the food was delicious! I got a crab cake and I'm still dreaming out it, I wish it was on their normal menu! I came here on a Wednesday night with my boyfriend to find out its $7 burger night! You need to follow their Instagram to see the daily specials but such a nice touch. We got the cheesesteak and chicken fingers, chicken fingers were really good and Panko breaded so they were extra crunchy. The cheesesteak was also good the bread is super tasty, only downfall was there was actually to much cheese and I am a cheese lover! The fries are perfectly seasoned and delicious. Also, they give you wine in real wine glasses!! Not only is this hard to find during Covid but the wine glasses were super nice it made me want to drink more! I will definitely be following them on Instagram to see their daily specials and come back to try their other menu items!!

Bill Z.

Yelp
Usually this place has really good food. But today for some reason I was not very impressed at all. We ordered 3 chicken cutlet blts. The chicken was over cooked, the bacon tasted old and the rest of the sandwich was just so so. Hope they didn't lose their cook
google avatar

Grace B.

Yelp
The ambiance was really good, how ever the get the actual food took so long. As well as the brie was freezing cold and not baked, it was good though. The sandwiches were all amazing! Would love to visit again when wanting to chill out.
google avatar

Sabina W.

Yelp
I am giving the Rook a 5/5 for that cheesesteak! Add this one to your must-try Philly cheesesteak list!! Soft roll, flavorful meat, perfect meat-cheese ratio, and not at alllll stingy with the filling. I'm so happy I found this cheesesteak near me! Absolutely going in my rotation. Don't sleep on this one-seriously!! Their onion rings and fries are also very yummy. How I like my fries! Perfectly cooked, with just the right amount of crunch ;)
google avatar

Eleanor N.

Yelp
Great place to watch a game or grab lunch/dinner! Their sandwiches are incredible, the chicken parm is delicious. The burgers are also incredible, I'm more of a fan of a west coast style burger and they absolutely kill it. Fries are delicious as well. This place gets busy during game times (rightfully so) so I'd arrive early for sure. One thing I'd love for them to improve is more options on tap but other than that I cant complain!
google avatar

Tomoko T.

Yelp
On an unsuspecting street, past the hustle and bustle of Manayunk, the rook sits on a side street facing a septa line running through. I went here with little expectations but a big appetite. I had the caccio tater tots, and their wings and I was very surprised and happy with what I got! Not only was the food great, it was also a nice little spot to get together. Not too loud. Would visit again.

Yelp
It is a work in progress here on opening weekend but I'm excited by the potential. If you judge purely on appearances and knew the old bar, it's a easy five star. They really cleaned the place up. More than that, they modernized it as well. No more bar in the center. Exposed brick. Clean and clear lighting. As for the food, it's fairly price but the portions seem small. It's a place you probably need to order two items per person. Service is hard to judge. They were packed on my visits and seemed a bit understaffed. However, it is opening weekend and I'm confident they will work out the bugs.

A G.

Yelp
Wow! Fantastic sandwiches. Unique combinations that make a delicious variety of sandwiches. Nice beer selection. The service good. This place totally lived up to the hype.

Rhett S.

Yelp
I had been a regular of the Rook since the day they opened. And being that word of mouth is THE best advertising a business can get, I was a walking billboard for their fries, Caesar salad and Bleu Burger. I didn't even much care that the service (on most occasions) was less than desirable, and I'm being kind. They were downright rude on occasion, but the food was good so I went back, until Halloween 2023. I took my home health aide in with me as I'm disabled. And on the way down, we ran into my neighbors who were also headed there. We all took seats at the bar and ordered drinks (separate tabs). After about an hour, I noticed the neighbor in the other party getting out of hand, so I turned my back to him and my attention to my aide. Then Halloween goers came in and he pranked them, badly, and ran out of the bar. He was gone for a good 15 minutes. When he finally returned, and the bar manager flagged him, I was relieved......until she then looked at me and said "And you're flagged too!! Get out!!". And I asked why and received the most ludicrous response ever that I actually thought she was joking for a moment. She actually said this to me, verbatim...."Because you sent a burger back before!!" And then forcefully grabbed the full drink I'd just ordered out of my hand and flagged myself too. You really can't write petty shit like this. And on the walk home, I had to think about it...and she was 100% correct. I did that....about a year before hand. I like my burgers rare & they don't generally take temps. But after becoming a regular, they generally did mine mid rare. But once it came out white in the middle and black on the outside & I wouldn't even feed that to my dog. Let's face it, as a manager...wouldn't you prefer a customer complain to you than to Yelp and all of their friends?? So, I didn't. I just boycotted for 6 months. Then I went in the other day with a friend and was told that I'm flagged for LIFE by another worker because of that incident that I had nothing to do with. This place is not a nightclub and I was not attending romper room night. And I was told I was flagged over a burnt burger. So, I wish you whatever good, bad or indifferent comes your way from this. I still cannot believe your pettiness, little girl. I've owned three restaurants and let me give you one piece of advice: If you get pissed at your customers for their constructive criticism instead of heeding it, you won't last!! I'd give you zero stars if I could. P.S. I just saw a guy on Instagram saying your burgers are, in his words "Garbage". What happened since Halloween??

Yelp
Great cheesesteaks. Nice people. Good drinks. Can get loud on the weekends but it's a pub so that's expected. I just prefer quiet. Good service every time I've visited. Parking can be a pain, however, it's manayunk and that's expected.

Yelp
My co-workers raved about this place. A few months ago, one of my associates and I went there for lunch. Neat place. I got the Nashville chicken sandwich, which was decent, but very greasy. Today, our office ordered take out. I got the Maria. The menu says seeded roll. I did not get the seeded roll. There was hardly any chicken in my sandwich but lots of mayo, which made me ill. Very dissappointed for a $16 sandwich. Will not go back.
google avatar

James P.

Yelp
We got the cheesesteak. The cheesesteak was delicious but very hard to score. It comes on a Sarcone's seeded roll. This is probably the best Sarcone's roll I ever had. The meat is fabulous. It had a very good amount of cheese and it was melted through everything. The fried onions and mushrooms were heavenly. However it was small. The end of the Cheesesteak we ate did not have a lot of meat. Did we pick the wrong half the cheesesteak? If it needed more meat then it would have needed more cheese. Very hard to score. $13 and it came with very good french fries. We paid the extra $1.50 for the long hots. They were not very hot. $13 could be considered cheap for a nice place like the Rook Manayunk and very good ingredients.

Yelp
Let me say this establishment has a beautiful outdoor dining area that is great use during these times. I finally got to try here after seeing it on FYI Philly and social media. Service was a bit delayed on taking our drink order after getting seated probably because it was swamped at happy hour on a Friday. I will say this place is garnishing a one star review because of the quality of the food. After much anticipation this place falls a bit flat. Ordered the pulled pork nachos and the filet tips sandwich. The nachos were simply tortilla chips with cheese and some pulled pork on top. That was it...nothing else. We had to ask the server about the sour cream, jalapeños and pico de gallo that was stated on the menu that was supposed to come with it. Our server was very attentive brought the rest of the fixings out and apologized saying they are new in the kitchen. In regards to the filet tip sandwich it wasn't good at all. First of all it wasn't filet, it was low quality sirloin. It wasn't sliced thin and wasn't tender at all. It was chewy and had no flavor and the sauce was overloaded with peppercorns. An actual filet tip sandwich is more like the one served at Manayunk Tavern which is tender meat with a proper marinade. I would definitely like to go back and try to revise my review because all the picture I've seen look like great sandwiches on long seeded liscio rolls but what I had was severely disappointing.

Yelp
The Rook Manayunk is my favorite restaurant/bar in all of Manayunk (maybe the entire city). Excellent food, great service, and even better vibes. My boyfriend and I go to the Rook at least once a week. There is one bartender (can't remember her name and I feel horrible) but she has blondish hair and is the niece at and most welcoming lady! She treats us as regulars; knows our order by heart; has great conversation; and always will turn on the game of our choice when able to! highly recommend the Mango Haberno Wings, as well as the Cobb salad and double O burger. I look forward every week to my nights at the rook.

Yelp
Not sure how long this place has been around but its quickly become one of my favorite spots in the area. They have a nice indoor and outdoor set up and are constantly running specials, so make sure to check out their Instagram for the latest. Food: First off, the sandwiches here are amazing and you can't go wrong. If its served on a hoagie roll... prepare to taste one of the best rolls around. I don't know how they do it but their rolls from Sarcone's are insanely fresh all the time... Honey Habanero Chicken Sandwich - 5/5 stars - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. The chicken's breading was nice and crunchy on the outside and the meat was juicy. They're tossed in a sweet and subtly spicy sauce that isn't overly powerful either way. The bacon is cooked nicely (not undercooked or stringy like you get as some places) and the pickles add sweet and sour mix to the sandwich. The cooper sharp cheese was melted throughout the sandwich and added a really nice creaminess that rounded everything out. Chicken Cheesesteak - 4.5/5 stars - Wow... once again the cooper sharp is just melted all the way through and its served on that perfect Sarcone's roll. It has the perfect amount and mix of chicken and cheese. The ONLY thing that I would say is that it could use just a bit more seasoning - but overall it was one of the best chicken cheesesteaks I've ever had. I put some hot sauce on this and it was divine. Chicken Tenders - 4/5 stars - These were thick chicken tenders that were juicy. They're panko breaded, so its a thin crust but it is super crisp and crunchy. Usually I like more batter but these were great. The real star was the honey mustard sauce which was amazing. If they sold the sauce by itself I'd probably buy some to take home. Pulled Pork Sandwich - 4.5/5 stars - A huge mound of pork that was juicy and cooked in a sauce that was tangy and slightly sweet. Served on a typical round roll that is light, fluffy and does a great job at absorbing all the juices and sauce without falling apart. The coleslaw is made of crunchy red cabbage which really adds some next texture - wish there was just a bit more of it! Spicy Chicken Parm Sandwich - 3.5/5 stars - For me, this was the least exiting of the bunch but still good! Same chicken cutlet as the Honey Habanero and Sarcone's roll, but served with provolone cheese and a spicy marinara sauce. The provolone isn't sharp and was actually quite creamy. The sauce had a nice spice to it which was a nice change up - the sandwich could have used a bit more sauce in general as it was a bit on the dry side.

Yelp
We went as a group of 7 on a Thursday. Our server was really nice but it was obvious she was the only one serving and she had all of the tables and it was really busy. The food was ok but there was way too much pepper on everything. The burger could have been good if it wasn't so massive that it was impossible to eat (like I love a big burger but you literally couldn't eat it). Everyone I was with struggled with thier food but I would try it again.

Yelp
Unbelievable renovation! Great selections, cool vibe, friendly and helpful staff. Walked around outback where there's outdoor seating, Overhead lights, seats at the bar, heat lamps, and a fire pit. Can't wait to come back in summer! I had the pulled pork sandwich, which was tasty. I went with four stars because the place is new and had some few kitchen things to iron out. Overall I had a good experience and look forward to seeing the place thrive!

Yelp
Stopped in for brunch and loved the rook burger with the egg. Plenty of TVs for games and the out back part is awesome with the heaters

Yelp
Love the Rook!!! Such a fun place for neighbors to gather. The staff is so friendly and quick. The best cheesesteaks in the area. I love sitting at the bar and watching a game there.

Yelp
I went out to dinner it was a little busy and didn't mind waiting, but it took 40 minutes from when we sat down to get appetizers. So then 20 minutes later we get our entrees which the sandwich part was delicious I was highly disappointed by the French fries. They were the softest excuse for fries ever, like barely attempting to make them suitable, no salt, no crunch, or crispiness to them at all. We literally couldn't eat them, as seen In the pics. I assume they were understaffed or just giving lousy service that night because we were only seen like three times about drinks and order. I hope you see this review and improve your service experience and revamp how you make your fires because it really ruined the whole experience.

Yelp
Really good cheesesteak with Cooper sharp. Great meat. Perfect blend of meat & cheese. Great roll. One of the better cheesesteaks in Phila & I've had the best. Angelos, Woodrow's, Carmela's.

Yelp
Been here 4 times to eat. The first time, it was relatively new, maybe a couple months. Food was average. Decided to give it another chance. The second time, the cheesesteak was bangin (whiz wit). The third time, again, food was bangin (The double "O" burger). This last time, after talkin it up with my girl about how good their food is, was absolutely awful. Took an hour for the to come out when it was relatively empty (maybe 30-35% capacity). The caesar salad dressing was tasteless (reoccurring theme), the chicken tenders that I asked for blue cheese with, with the inferno sauce, came out lukewarm and with honey mustard (nitpicking a bit but justified all things considered), and the worst part, the cheesesteak, which we ordered with cooper sharp, came with the spicy cheese. The one bartender did offer to make a new one but we just said F it. Here's the thing. The ribeye was chewy and tasteless. NO seasoning on it. It's like the cook didn't season anything. Just threw the steak on the flat top, barely chopped it up, and served it up just as is. Really disappointed. Lastly, the main bartender forgot half our stuff. No water for me. Had to ask a second time for that and another beer. Didn't bring out the correct condiments, and had to ask for the check a second time. Owners, tell your cook to season things...goes a long way

Yelp
Visited The Rook for dinner on a Saturday night. There were no reservations available inside but we were able to snag a table outside which I didn't mind because the music inside was really loud. The interior is really nice and has a cool vibe. It definitely seems to cater to the college crowd as the majority of patrons looked to be in their early to mid twenties. I ordered the Chicken Cheesesteak sandwich with potato fries and it was delicious! It had the perfect cheese to chicken ratio. The best part about all of their sandwiches, is that it comes on a fresh seeded roll. I read some other reviews saying the portions are small but I disagree...I was full after eating half of it! Our waiter was Billy and he was fantastic! He was very friendly and attentive. We were the only people sitting outside so I worried that we would get forgotten about but that wasn't the case. Billy checked up on us just the right amount of times. COVID: They have paper menus and serve the food on plastic plates. Even the condiments come in plastic containers. That was a nice touch because I haven't found another restaurant in Manayunk that does that. My only complaint is that when I went to the bathroom, the bartender was wearing his mask under his nose. The Rook has definitely become one of my favorite spots in Manayunk and I can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Food was amazing. My only complaint is how slow they were. But the French onion soup was to die for.

Yelp
Excellent bar. Mood and décor are fun. Off the Main Street onto the 'hood, so that's good. It's loud, but this isn't a quiet date spot. Burgers are excellent. The Brussel Sprouts are bonkers!!! I can't wait to try the wings again... they're marinated, par baked and then deep fried for service. Very different and delicious too. The back patio has so much damn character. Check it out. Great beer list, too.

Yelp
Low key my favorite cheesesteak in Philly. Seeded roll, Cooper sharp, onions, they also have amazing chicken egg rolls with long hots. It's a fun bar to drink and watch a game too.

Yelp
Finally made it to eat after hearing good things and we were not disappointed. The staff was nice and welcoming. They have a nice outdoor area but we choose to sit inside due to the heat. We had meatball apps and cheesesteaks which were all delicious! Glad we made it and we will be back

Yelp
My fiancé and I have ordered take out twice so far during quarantine. The first time we got the Dante inferno wings. These guys were SPICY! As leftovers the spice level cooled down and were still delicious. I had the hot Nashville sandwich and my fiancé had the cheesesteak, both were great but the fries were salted and fried perfectly. He said the cheesesteak was the best he's had in a awhile! Second time, we loved the way they grilled the wings so much we ordered them again but got the hot flavor. I got the fried chicken sandwich and he got the chicken cheesesteak and they were so good and every time we had leftovers that heated up perfectly in the oven. We will definitely dine here once the world opens back up. Keep doing what you're doing!

Yelp
NOT COVID SAFE!! the food is actually good, fair prices but NO MASKS! You are stuffed in a tent two feet from the next person. which might be appealing to some. No masks, servers do not come to your table, and the food took close to an hour and was served in a takeout container (as I said, pretty good though) disappointing because this place had potential. Server named Danielle couldn't care less if we wanted another drink and forgot our orders. Every table was overserved, girls peeing straight on the floor in the bathroom, one fell to the ground and the server picked her up and handed her a beer?! I guess they're appealing to the messy college crowd
