"Our favorite, tried-and-true friend-zone spots are makeshift group settings where you can bring your own group or find one to infiltrate as if you haven't been living in New York long enough to mind your own business. At the Rookery, the vibe is generally “the more the merrier.” Long tables and a U-shaped bar make it easy to chat with the friendly bartenders or the people next to you if your friend seems like they’ve got some heart-shaped beer goggles on. The crowd skews young too, so you'll probably meet someone who hasn't realized that other people are the worst, and they might feel inclined to introduce you to all of their friends. Just be careful about what you order on the cocktail menu. Go for the “Left on Read” over the “Cuffing Season” cocktail to prevent any mixed messages. " - neha talreja

"The Rookery isn’t the best bar in Bushwick, but it also isn’t the worst. Mostly this place is just good for group hangs, late-night eats, and day drinking. They’re open for lunch (or brunch) every day, and there’s plenty of room inside. This place is also cleaner than your average bar, and it doesn’t smell like someone’s trying to mask the scent of vomit with copious amounts of bleach." - Bryan Kim, Matt Tervooren

I'm so glad that I finally visited this place. The front yard is very nice. Inside it's not very big but it's comfortable. The prices are very reasonable and the service is great. I had the Scotch Egg which came over a bed of Organic Mix Spring Lettuce and sauce on the side. It was very tasty. They have a wonderful Brunch menu and really good specials. The music was great. A lot of 80's songs. The vibe is amazing. The people were friendly. Many were people from the neighborhood but they were very welcoming. It is also a dog friendly place. Also it is located on a block where you have The Bushwick Collective (streets full of street art). I enjoyed my time here a lot and I can't wait to go back.

Google
Great bar with awesome food! We had their deviled eggs, truffle fries, and deep fried oreos. Everything was delicious! I'm not sure if it's the same in the evening but when we went during lunch hour, there was no table service so make sure to go up to the bar and order!

Google
Was looking for a pet friendly place to get some food and this came up. The atmosphere is chill but the food was nothing special. We ordered Rarebit and Rookery burgers, neither was better than a double whopper. We also ordered wings which were just normal. The fries that came with all the orders were waaaaay too salty. For drinks we just had beers and their margarita which was good / the best thing we had during this visit. Staff was friendly and vibes were laid back. Wouldn't recommend this place for food but would for drinks and hanging out with friends.

Google
I miss Scotland sometimes. Good thing The Rookery exists - I can get my pub food fix, my proper English breakfast fix, my black pudding fix, and of course, my proper pint fix! All this blended with Brooklyn sensibilities makes this a regular session for me!

Went in for a quick bite and loved it. From the patio to the interior, the art and design, it was all beautiful. The food was delicious! I had the oxtail sandwich topped with Jerked guava sauce and a French/Haitian hot sauce (super spicy btw) and fries (perfectly crispy and hell thicc). I gave 4 stars because it was a bit confusing to order, and get your food and dogs anywhere i eat is a no no for me. I had some Redemption Rye Whisky, smoother than Michael Jackson and a Missionary cocktail, both combined gave me a super nice buzz. Overall, excellent spot and excellent food!

Google
Beautiful space with great little details (inside AND outside space). Superb service with genuinely friendly people. Awesome and original cocktails with some real spunk too them. Yummy appetizers too (we loved our honey spiced wings!) Will come back!

As a member of the Burger king's club since 1992, I approve of the fries at the Rookery. They're steak cut, the best kind. The fried comes with a spicy, creamy sauce; however, I forget the name of it. We were welcomed by the bartender, Brian or Bryan; either way - great bartender. On Monday nights they have $5 mussels, highly recommended. The drinks got us lit. The place has a large front patio that can fit a large crowd. OH and we finished off with fried oreos.

Nice and cozy spot for meeting with friends! Good atmosphere; Friendly and welcoming staff along with tasty food and fast service. Moreover, I can say that i am in love with their fries! It’s the most delicious one I have ever tried before

Yelp
Listen....the amount of times I've shown up here on a Monday for these bloody mussels. Man! What a gift. I really come here for the mussels. That's really it. Every portion. All portions. More bread. Maybe even two orders because the broth, yes. I like sitting at the round bar or outside at a table for the most part. They've got other good stuff on the menu too, but the mussels are truly magical. #YuckBangApproved

Yelp
Great place! We ended up here after a concert at Elsewhere because they were close and they were open, but we were not disappointed. My husband got the Shepherd's Pie and loved it. I got the Rookery Burger, which was amazing, and we shared some onion rings. Friendly bartenders, a great DJ, and great food for not a lot of money. Definitely check this place out if you are in the area.

Yelp
We came to the Rookery in a group of 4 for the first time at 10pm on a Friday night and had a pretty subpar experience here. They have a nice setup - with an island bar inside, booths/tables around the bar, and some more spacious / quieter seating outside. There was only 3 bartenders working, taking orders for both drinks and food (no servers), so they seemed rushed. We ordered 6 drinks, 5 of which (minus the spritz) were only barely filled above the halfway mark in a normal sized glass including ice. It seemed like many parts of the drinks were premixed and drinks were weak. It also took them 30 minutes to bring out an order of truffle fries of the kitchen (at 11pm when not that many food orders were coming out). The fries were a bit soggy and very under seasoned.

Jordan W.

Yelp
Love the atmosphere here, honestly this might have to become my new pre game spot if I am in the area. I will keep coming back. I indeed was here a few weeks ago before a trip to Brooklyn Mirage, 3 drinks for less than $24, sign me up all day for that one. One was Tullymore Dew on the rocks which was a nice pour, other was just Whiskey ginger but the general house liquor version. The third epic drink of the trilogy turned out to be a Tecate beer and shot of Tequila. Pre game helps sometimes and I felt the vibes for later and enjoy the rest of my night. Next time, I will definitely try the food here.

Yelp
BEST FRENCH TOAST EVER! thick, generous portions, fresh fruit, friendly staff drool miss you guys

Nicole G.

Yelp
It took a while to find seats but this chicken sandwich was the best I'd had in a long time. The flavors were so present and the chicken itself was crispy, tender, and filling. Our waiter was really kind and personable. I ordered the chicken sandwich with BBQ sauce and the sauce was so good. My dining partner ordered a burger. It looked a bit small but I was told it was also very good. The fries were nice and potatoey. They reminded me more of potato wedges then crispy French fries which I liked. Both the interior and outside area are spacious. The interior has a lot of tables and the bar area has great selections of beer & more. The garden area also has tables but can get pretty crowded during happy hour. Like I said, we had to wait like ten minutes before a seat became available. Worth it though-- I would do anything for that chicken sandwich

Laura Jean O.

Yelp
Love the atmosphere here especially on a laid back Tuesday. Cocktails were good, I had the raindrop. Hummus is very good. Service is fast. For something you can't find on the menu - literally everyone was ordering the fried Oreos!!

Iain T.

Yelp
So the other week The Feelies put on an OK gig at Brooklyn Made, got out late after an overindulgent third encore and was hungry. What's a Brit in Brooklyn to do? Thought the search results were bollocks but there actually is a good British pub here serving food until the wee small hours. Just get past the queue for the club next door. And really tasty food too - this Scotch Egg was proper grub, with a runny centre and superbly spicy mustard. Add in really friendly bar staff and a drinks selection that covers all tastes and, if I lived in the area, would cheerfully become a local. We did mean to return for the full-English (black pudding is promised) but couldn't make it. But being able to get a good pint and decent nosh past midnight is what makes New York what it is. London and San Francisco take note.

Lizzy N.

Yelp
Came here late on Sunday night after seeing a great show, Cocktail Magique, but I'll share that in another review . Anyway, the vibe was very chill, bartender was friendly and attentive. We sat at the bar and had the chicken sandwich and the Rookery Burger both were scrumptious and the steak fries were cooked to perfection. Hubby had the local IPA, which was good as well.

Joseph M.

Yelp
I was ready to give this place 1 star. The bar was semi full, but nothing overwhelming, and it still took 10-15 minutes each time I needed something. After I got my food I couldn't get the waitress's attention so I had to ask the patron next to me to pass the ketchup. This isn't a big deal but the patron seemed to be in a nice conversation and I interrupted her to get ketchup. She didn't mind but that's not the point; I shouldn't have had to do that. Anyways... The staff was nice when you could get their attention, but it was a test of patience to get some attention. It was kind of disappointing that they don't have many local options. Being in what's supposed to be a "progressive neighborhood" you'd think they'd walk the walk, not just talk the talk and support the local economy by carrying more craft brews. The atmosphere was simple, clean, and open so you don't feel crowded. The saving grace here was the burger. I've tried hundreds of burgers and this burger left an impression. I can't pinpoint the herb/root/something that had a bite to it. It was fresh, a little strong, but not overwhelming. Not ginger or fennel or mustard greens; whatever it is, it rocked! I'd come back just for the burger! Awesome. Burger belongs on a wall of fame somewhere.

Yelp
FOOD SLAPS HARD!!!!! Scotch egg - crispy, perfectly fried outer layer, sausage juicy, egg yolk soft!!!!! Perfectly Splendid Full English Breakfast - blood sausage very flavorful and tender DRINKS SO EFFIN GOOD!!!!!! CHEERS!!!!!

Doreen L.

Yelp
False advertising! Sign outside clearly states $5 mimosas for their recovery brunch on weekends until 5pm. However, we got a nice little surprise when the bill was acquired and the mimosas were actually listed at $7 a pop. That's quite a difference in price especially when you get three rounds. How about you change the sign to reflect your new charges or do you like misleading your customers so they walk into your establishment thinking they're getting a deal? Rookery? More like a snookery.

Alex M.

Yelp
Classic pub grub and great drink selection (whisky selection is on point too). Usually end up stopping here whenever we find ourselves in Bushwick (one of our goto staples). Great indoor and outdoor seating. Their buffalo wings are so of the best I've had so far in NYC (definitely worth the saucy mess). They also have a great selection of beers - many local (even from down the street KCBC). Just make sure your bathroom door is locked correctly or someone could accidentally walk in.

Erin Y.

Yelp
super great indoor and outdoor space. stopped by before a concert on a wednesday night and plenty of seating inside, patio was pretty full enter to the side or through the patio. you chose wherever you want to sit and order at the bar. not super loud inside with the music which is appreciated portions are a bit small for their price but have unique options solid drink prices and fun cocktails friendly and knowledgeable staff

Juliet C.

Yelp
If I can give zero I would .. Only 3 pieces of fried pickles for $8.. absolutely not .. should have also wrote it on the menu that they only serve 3 pickles ! What a laugh! And the server had the audacity to say "times are tough" also took 20min to fry literally one pickle that they cut into 3 pieces .. obviously they won't put it on the menu it's only 3 pieces cause no one will buy it ! My heart hurts

Noel P.

Yelp
Just had a couple of beers on a hot Wednesday afternoon whilst mooching around Brooklyn - but really enjoyed it and will be back for a night out. Almost like home from home and made a limey feel at home!

Simmone L.

Yelp
I was here yesterday and I LOVED the STAFF & ENVIRONMENT! I wish I would've taken pictures of the outside seating area because OMG it's so picture worthy! I would LOVE to do a PHOTOSHOOT HERE! Also the drinks & food are amazing! I had a passion fruit margarita prepared by Ruben! I had the truffle steak fries and the Brussel sprouts! I enjoyed my meal and drink! I will be a returning customer! I can't wait to pull on Tiki Tuesday's which starts at 7PM. I wanna try a few drinks off of that menu!

Diane L.

Yelp
Alyssa was awesome! Suggested great food and drinks. There was amazing atmosphere, I brought my friend here just got a quick drink and the bartender did her th int to keep us here with great food suggestions and good conversation.

Scott B.

Yelp
The Rookery has a wonderful rounded bar and a few booths as well as phenomenal outdoor seating for the warmer months. With a great selection of bites and an even greater selection of whiskeys and the like. (Have an High West American Prairie or an Eagle Rare Single Barrel) The food was fresh and tasty. Came out fast. The menu leans English pub grub. The deviled eggs were not over done and the micro greens were tasty. I also had the Moules Frites which were a large portion and had rich flavor. I am going to have to try the brunch!

Alex Z.

Yelp
Love the little neighborhood pub, came here for a quick drink before theater. The space is nicely decorated. It's quiet on a winter week night. Just some folks sitting by the bar. The guys behind the bar are friendly. Drinks are delicious and reasonable price. There are some signature cocktails and some draft beers. Some bar snacks available.

Andreina P.

Yelp
Nice ambiance, the drinks are to die for and so it's the food. The bartenders are also nice and will hook up your drinks

Ingrid R.

Yelp
Great little store for the community. Very charming place. Wonderful staff. Highly recommend!

Gammaray B.

Yelp
Fast, easy service. Fried chicken sandwich + fried Oreos were made to perfection. I would go back

Courtney S.

Yelp
Based on the menu choices I want to feel like this is a British pub with a New York twist. The food here is pretty good I've gotten the grilled cheese and tomato soup as well as a fried Oreos. It's a cool spot to chill out especially since they have games like guess who and Jenga. I like playing their Jenga because of all the weird dares that people have written on the blocks lol. There's also outdoor seating for warmer weather. Wish the crowd was a bit more diverse though.

Bri H.

Yelp
I tried to like this place but the service was just horrible. Not the bartenders fault, but they def seemed to be understaffed the day I was there. They only had the two bartenders making drinks, taking food orders, acting as waiters, bussing tables during a busy Monday happy hour. They were out of the froze so my friend and I got palomas that were just not good at all. There was also a price discrepancy because I asked for a well drink for HH, and he rung it up as a cocktail even though I asked him to make me literally any tequila well...???? Stuff like that really really annoys me. The saving grace was the mussels and since it was Monday, you can get a small serving for 5 dollars. The space is also really nice. I think I'll give them another chance because the ambiance and food was good but hopefully they can get the service together.

Kaitlyn B.

Yelp
Quirk-ery everywhere. I've been to The Rookery 2 times the last few weeks. Both times there was an oddly mingled crowd, with some quirky bar staff. Totally dig it!! On my afternoon adventure, we got some apps. The Brussels sprouts are quintessentially buttered with a lively kick from the peppers. If you get the fries, 100% get the aioli! I enjoyed the garlic aioli on my Brussels sprouts too. The deviled eggs were def my favorite out of the 3 samples we tried, whipped to perfect consistency. At 7pm certain wines were half off! We started too early to partake, but I'll definitely be back. When I came on a late night adventure, it was just my party and One other on the patio. Was very chill for 2am on a weekend in Brooklyn, and I was ok with that! Felt like a hidden gem I probably shouldn't be boasting about..... The set up is cute, horseshoe bar with a great deal of booths inside. Outside is a patio decorated with a plethora of greenery, courted with dainty awnings over each table. An ideal date night spot, a nook to quietly read a book with a stiff bev, or maybe a convenient place for intimate conversation.... Could totally be a rager too, the place is your pallet!

Raj A.

Yelp
I realize I used to accidentally walk pass this bar all the time at night - glad I was finally able to check it out. Pretty great happy hour, we're able to hang out in their courtyard. The yardbird chicken sandwich was so good I would definitely come back just for that.

Liz D.

Yelp
Came here in the end of July for a friends Birthday celebration. We basically took over the bar. Unfortunately the staff wasn't attentive at all. I'm not sure if they were overwhelmed by number of patrons but it took a lot to get their attention. The drinks during happy hour were just ok. The male bartender was better at making the drinks. The woman bartender was not friendly and made the worst drink I've tasted at a bar. They had a taco special, those weren't bad. Also the fries were good as well. I will not be back. After using my card here the very next day I had fraudulent activity on it. I won't say it happened here but I would use cash if I were you.

Mike M.

Yelp
A friend suggested I try it out so I stopped in. Love the Scottish vibe. Great prices on food, incredible cocktails, nice staff. What more could you ask for from a pub on a Monday after a vacation? Had the Blue burger and it was delicious. Brussels sprouts were cooked perfectly and also a tiny bit spicy which was nice too!!

Johnny G.

Yelp
I tried my best to like it a lot but it was very frustrating to. The location was in Artsy part of Bushwick, the food was actually good and the happy hour deals were fairly cheap. The huge disconnect was the level of services. No attention to detail and I it's not the bartenders fault they were overworked and understaffed. I just hate the fact that I hollering and fighting for the attention of a bartender for 15-20 minutes.

Molly K.

Yelp
One of my favorite go-to spots in the neighborhood. Food is good and very reasonably priced - love all of the bar apps. Cocktails are great too. Bartenders are friendly and the vibe is chill and casual. Never had a bad experience here.

Christina B.

Yelp
Get the scotch egg!!!!!! It's so rare to find a good one and this baby is a good egg. The bar is beautiful and cozy, great for groups and they have tons of drink specials and happy hour deals.

Nala P.

Yelp
I have been going to this bar for over 8 years. It's always been a neighborhood stable. Over 3-4 years ago they announced a new chef since then the food has been awful. I keep going back because I like the vibe and drinks but the food is getting worse and worse. I have found food orders to consistently be wrong. Burgers are cooked well no matter how you order them and are always completely under seasoned. Normally the fries are always good but today out of three rowed that my friend and I had there was not a crispy fry to be had. They are all limp and oil laden. I order a new item (that I know of) which was cole slaw. It was red cabbage with olive oil or that's how it tasted. There was no acidity, no salt- it was awful I didn't even eat it. The food is sh*t on a shingle. It's such a shame because it's such a great place and this area needs a good bar food place badly but the

Stephen B.

Yelp
Nice place in Bushwick. Stopped in today during a walkabout in the area. Nice bar and outdoor seating but unfortunately they allow smoking. That's why I rated 3 stars. Tried the scotch egg as an afternoon snack. Good choice. And a beer of course. :)

Ginette P.

Yelp
After walking around we decided to give this place a try since after we looked it up they had a few items we wanted to try .. food you order at the bar then they bring to you. Drinks I wanted a Frose but the bartender said it didn't taste right? ok I appreciate the heads up but same time found it odd ? oh well I just had a Titos & seltzer , hard to go wrong , hubby had the Hell or HIghwater watermelon , not bad a Banana mai tai decent as well. we tried to get food but they were out of the oxtail empanadas & the scotch egg .. ughhh we did order other items but 35-40 minutes later we still had no food , so we walked in & asked & they said they were short staffed & it was going to be another 10 minutes now at this point we were done, drinking & eating in the area & by this time it was already late so we had to cancel our order & head out. if service was that delayed they should have said something when we ordered ? we wouldn't have bothered with the food. Aside from that decent looking place , nice set up outside.

Peipei Y.

Yelp
Happened to be there coz the Brunswick block party. It was nice, they had cool outdoor seatings. The bartender was super cool and friendly. Definitely try their frose! We ordered buffalo wings, glad we ordered 2 coz it's small portion. Taste really good, just not a fan they offer melted butter as dipping sauce.

Juan C.

Yelp
First time here and not too bad for a late night place. The food could've been a little better, ordered mac & cheese and it was a bit dry felt like just pasta no cheese. Service was friendly and really nice. I will try this place one more time since the bartend was really chill

Raf A.

Yelp
My favorite bar/food place in Bushwick thus far!! It has dive bar mixed with chic mixed with goth vibes but it's one of the most peaceful places you can come to drink/eat. It's so spacious you'll feel it's just you and your friends. You'll vibe to a funky song on the speakers and still be able to have a conversation with your friends. Every single bartender is amazing! They listen and take care of you with excellent customer service. The drinks are very well made! Even their house vodka and tequila are enjoyable as shots! The food is amazing! You wouldn't think it was bar food. The burgers, fries, salad, wings are on the top of my list! Come and enjoy some food, drinks, and funky music as a night out or simply for lunch.

Antonio C.

Yelp
Drinks were light and didn't taste as anything as described. Food was lacking. Horrible customer service, wasn't approachable, bartenders were interested in their inappropriate conversations amongst themselves. Never coming back here.

Brandon G.

Yelp
Other than them being out of mac-and-cheese, I thoroughly enjoyed myself at The Rookery. Their outdoor patio is a nice vibe and indoors is majestic. I especially love the tall ceilings, which reminds you more of a wedding venue than a bar/restaurant. The drinks were good and reasonably priced and their wings and truffle fries was a nice addition to the drinks. It's not grunge like a typical Bushwick bar. Can't wait to return. The staff is super nice and professional, as well.

Ru M.

Yelp
The only good thing about this place was the music, food was ok, waiters were very negligent and didn't seem to especially care about us for some strange reason even though it wasn't crowded and we were being patient and giving them time. Didn't get a menu for drinks or food until 15mins and we were sitting right at the bar with two bartenders doing everything else but acknowledge us. The one woman we asked for assistance told us we had to wait for a server, we later asked for water and instead of just granting it since it was a water pitcher on opposite side of circular bar, she said we could get it ourselves(she was very rude and aloof). We did order some Brussels sprouts and falafel, both dishes were ok nothing special, I liked that they had vegetarian options though. But the DJ had the place very vibey and good atmosphere! He played all the right songs!! Also the bartender when we asked drink prices told us one price and we saw he charges us $2 more than price of drink. He said it was $11 even though my niece flipped POS machine around it said $9. Which shows how unethical they are in this place. I usually try not to write bad reviews about places because I know it effects business but the owner needs to hire way better bartenders and servers because either they singled us out for no reason or they need to be vetted better. Come for music if need be and leave!

John H.

Yelp
I can't recommend The Rookery enough. This place has a really cool and clean atmosphere and the food is consistently knockout. I have tried other burgers in the area but the Rookery burger is my go-to. The customer service is always super friendly (and fast too). If you're on the fence--just do it, you won't regret it. Everything is fresh and the fries are a dream.

Alicia H.

Yelp
Jonna is an amazing host/bartender/server/everything!! The space is beautiful! And gets a lot of natural light during the day. The fries with the spicy mayo sauce was absolutely delicious. Looking forward to coming back here soon! They have a really nice outdoor seating area too!

Chavisa W.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years. This is the first time I came here after the pandemic. Leaving two stars is generous. I had a frose say and it was disgusting. It gave me a headache immediately. The rose was bitter. The bartender noticed I wasn't drinking it. I said it didn't taste quite right and she informed me that they use the cheapest possible wine to make the drink. It is the same price as the same drink that I had at Forest point and that one was amazing. She was generous and gave me another drink but I really wanted a frose. They shouldn't have anything at the bar that tastes that bad, especially for that price. That's how it went for the rest of the night. Everything tasted like it was made from the bottom shelf, by someone who hates cooking. I wouldn't be surprised if most of our food was just Goya products or something. The chef is doing everything wrong. The salad tasted strange... Just a blend of herbs that did not go well together, also butter and soaked in vinegar. The sandwich was covered in a very spicy buffalo sauce. Just drowned in it, and was almost inedible. My partner and I were really sad to have to say to each other we will probably never go back here. Very disappointing overall, and it used to be a great place.

Alana R.

Yelp
This place is super cute for a date night but all the patio was full with live music outside. Not sure how to reserve those seats. We got wings, mac and cheese and a few other shareables. All great and cocktails were amazing

Milly R.

Yelp
Just started coming to this place last summer. The vibes and service are always good. Menu is good for different choices depending on your palette. Countless drink menu. I'll recommend a frozen drink while you wait for your food. Stop by for brunch on weekends.

Gaby R.

Yelp
The jerk chicken sandwich was great! It's not so much jerk as it is just a punch of flavor, it's sweet & spicy & their steak fries were perfect! It might have been the night, but the only downside is seating yourself when the available tables had not been bussed/cleaned yet

Jacqueline B.

Yelp
Love stopping in on sundays to catch the live jazz band and have a couple of drinks to wind down the weekend. Satisfying wine list, some nice small snacks. I haven't tried the larger food items yet, but as far as a small stop in your day it is very enjoyable.

Alexander P.

Yelp
I'm so glad this local staple is open again! Feels so good to be inside these hallowed walls where so much bushwick debauchery has gone down. The new booths are a beautiful new COVID-friendly addition. The music and ambience is as on point as it ever was and the fact that my favorite Rookery bartender (Micaela ) is here and still remembers my drink order after this year of hiatus made me feel like COVID never happened. Can't wait to come back and try the new menu!
