The Roost

Second time coming here. Yesterday had the Mochadamia and it was really good and fairly priced compared to others in the city right now. The ambiance is nice, the front area to order is small, however the have a larger room in the back (which then connects to the bar) has a few comfortable seating options, however only one area has a plug just a heads up if you’re looking to use your computer. They also have adorable outdoor seating options with plants etc on the street!

Next time I have to try the food but I had great drink suggestions from the energetic bartenders and the vibe with the faux fireplace was cozy and comfortable.

Rude bar area staff, decent coffee, cool atmosphere. We were excited to discover this new spot. Seemed like a great little spot to get coffee in the morning/afternoon that turns into a bar in the evening. However when our group was checking out the back area to find an area to sit at the very empty bar area, a guy working the bar area gave us a ton of uncalled-for attitude and told us to sit in the front area. What initially was an exciting discovery, quickly turned in a very unwelcoming place with unhappy staff. Cappuccino was decent, and foamy.

Absolutely love this local coffee and bar place. Really cool and laid back vibe. I love grabbing their almond croissant and coffee on the weeks. Bar opens at 3pm and there’s drink options for everyone.

Calling all coffee lovers!! One of the many coffee shops in the city that never sleeps of course. This coffee shop in particular is extremely authentic European style coffees, lattes, macchiatos, mochas, etc. LOVE! Barista knows exactly what she's talkin about, all the varieties of coffee, and how to make the perfect cup of joe in whatever way you may want it. I was very impressed! The decor makes this place even more inviting. Scones delicious and loved that they had a variety of biscotti flavored treats.

This place is more than a coffee shop. It also offers a good selection of beer, eggs, dairy and dairy alternative products etc. The outside seating is spacious and nicely distanced. The cortado I had was okay. I will go back for the sense of community and try different barista.

Great coffee in the front coffee shop. Even better bar and cocktails in the back! Wonderful atmosphere, great selection of drinks and wonderful service. We really enjoyed the environment. Very cool spot!

haven't been here for a minute. had an errand nearby that required a coffee to be nursed as I waited. walked into The Roost, a customer ahead of me was being helped. barista makes eye contact with and acknowledges me. another person walks in a few minutes later, cuts ahead of me, orders a drink, and keeps saying "we would like to order..."/ "we would like to pay with..."/ we... / we..." was like being trapped in a current SNL skit. cringe. sigh. lol. the barista decides to make "we's" drink ahead of mine was weird. "we" leaves after a few minutes and then the barista asks me for my order was as if the aforementioned didn't occur. huh? dissociation is a helluva drug, apparently. anyway, order an Americano. after a few minutes, the barista places the drink on the counter...for some reason the barista filled the cup to the top creating that overfill / meniscus over the cup's lip...so when i picked it up that lip of coffee spilled on my hand (not scalding, but not pleasant). if the coffee shop places the lids, simple syrup several feet away...why would you fill the coffee to beyond the top? top answers: doesn't believe in physics, dissociation from reality, etc. anyway, the interesting thing was there was no acknowledgements of these minor/major fuckups bc of course, i paid and tipped before the drink was made unlike "we's customer" hmmm--cant imagine why? the coffee was fine for what is was but not worth the sub-par behavior & service. as the quote goes: customers won't love you if you give bad service, your competitors will

They incorrectly charged me $116 on my credit card when I only consumed one mocktail ($12.69). They are not reachable by phone. This is a very big mistake and added a lot of inconvenience

My work takes to different neighborhoods around the City so I always suss out local time unique cafes. And this is still one of the best for coffee quality. I'm OCD about my lattes, and they are always accommodating. Bummer that there's no seating in the front area.

So I stopped in here, waiting for my friend to meet me for a drink. I was standing in the cafe area, having just got the WiFi to reach out to my friend to tell her where I was, when this absolute tool of a human being lumbers over with a bike. And when I say that, I mean that's what immediately stuck out to me. He looked so horribly unlikeable, like a Jersey Shore reject. Like he groomed himself hoping he'd get cast as the bad guy in a movie. Like he makes artisanal Rohypnol in his basement. He turns to the girl working the cafe, who was closing up while the bar was still open, and asked why she was closing early. She told him they hadn't had a customer in about 2-3 hours, so made the executive decision to pull the cord. It was about 9 at night at this point, so it would make sense that no one's wandering in off the street for coffee, and chances of it would even sharply decrease as the night goes on. But Bikeman, apparently a stalwart defender of the "let's go get coffee at 11:20 at night" community, proceeds to reveal himself as the owner of the establishment, as he berated the poor barista, who couldn't have been older than 18 or 19, and asked for a detailed email by the next morning as to why she was closing early, as if she didn't just provide a completely reasonable explanation to that. He then hopped on his bike and scooted off to be terrible somewhere else. My friend showed up not long after that and we went somewhere else. Couldn't support a business owned by people who treats their employees so terribly, especially when they look like how Axe body spray smells. This is my first review and I'm only doing this because I feel duty-bound to tell people how much this guy sucks. Went to a phenomenal bar down the street called Malden Lane. Go there instead.

Really disappointing experience. I came in with a friend and she ordered a matcha and I didn't order anything since I actually had come in earlier and got a chai to go. We sat in the back room and the manager/owner (??) rudely insisted we must order a drink to sit. We told him we had ordered already, then got our drink. (He actually yelled at the poor barista and quizzed her, making sure it was us who ordered the matcha.) 5 minutes later, he aggressively slapped a "no loitering" sign on our table and walked away. Everyone in the back room was shocked and offended. We promptly left after being treated so rudely. The baristas have always been kind and actually apologized for his inappropriate behavior to us!! Felt bad for these young baristas who are just doing their job and being treated like shit by this dick of a human. Go somewhere else please!!

While the place is really cute the atmosphere was not welcoming. I read online it was a great place to come and work from, upon arrival I was met with a set of rules listing: no outlets open to the public, laptops only available in the small indoor section of the cafe etc (rules attached) if you're looking for a place to work from for a few hours, this is not it.

Good service. Friendly people. Excellent oatmilk latte. Seemed clean and quiet in the early afternoon.

A quaint coffee shop by day, and bar by night. During the day there is no public bathroom available. There is plenty of seating, but only outdoor seating available (they've built a seating area directly out front). They sell balthazar pastries.

Cool place that's both a coffeehouse and a bar located next to Sty Town, in Alphabet City. It's an old converted carriage house or workshop with a very homey feeling. Front room is the coffee shop/ cafe the middle room is a lounge area with sofas, and the back is the bar, with tables and high seat cafe tables. A lot of wood, floor to ceiling with a couple of cool old skylights make it feel very comfortable. Bartender very friendly. Clearly a neighborhood gathering spot. Great selection of craft beers noted, although I'm not a beer drinker myself.

We came on a Saturday night to celebrate a co-worker's birthday. The front was a coffee bar and the back opens to a spacious area with a bar. Had a Hop Toddy, which was scotch, honey, lemon juice, anise. Excellent drink for the cold weather or a sore throat and couldn't really taste the alcohol. Music that night was loud enough to dance to, but not enough to drown out all the conversations. Good vibes and everyone had a fun time. Plenty of seating and they even have a comfy couch to relax on.

I really enjoyed this place as it allowed me to sip a beer while working away on my laptop and taking advantage of their free wifi. It was a Sunday evening and so it wasn't really busy. I had a quick chat with the bartender as I was having tastings of the various beers on draft. They also have a cafe in the front of the building, which - while I walked though - I didn't patronize. But I like the combo of daytime and evening time activities. Well done!

How is this place so unknown? Great coffee--the new guy Thor makes the best flat whites in town.

I've walked past this place a bunch of times in the past, but have never stepped foot inside. I'm so glad I took the chance to stop by today! I really like the set up of the space with the cafe up front and the bar in the back. The music was a little loud for my taste, which made it hard to do the work I was planning on doing at the cafe, but otherwise, I enjoyed my time there. A small latte is $4, which is reasonable for NYC, and nicely poured. I enjoyed the coffee, which was strong enough to get my neurons firing again in the late afternoon. Seating is comfortable and the barista is friendly and willing to chat. I'll definitely be stopping by here again in the near future. PS check in on yelp for $1 off a drink at the bar (NOT the cafe).

If you want great coffee and great drinks in one spot go here. Get the Vietnamese coffee! Also the back is a speakeasy bar with delicious drinks and a nice aesthetic!

I've been here every time I'm in New York, it's a stone's throw from my sister's place. I love this place, we first went here for late night drinks and it has serious speakeasy vibes with a cavernous classy back room and amazing cocktails. During the day, it's a coffee place in the front. I love the vanilla Vietnamese iced latte with oat milk - absolute heaven. The coffee shop doesn't have any indoor seating but it has cute outdoor seating that is partially covered and it gets great natural light.

This place sucks. overpriced (bad coffee) and also the single rudest interaction I've ever had in my life. when I tried to plug my laptop in outside, after paying and tipping for a drink, the bartender (or owner or whatever) came out and verbally abused my friend and i. he virtually yelled at us for trying to use an outlet instead of politely asking us to unplug my computer. unacceptable behavior - do not give this toxic place your business . also, ive read a lot of other reviews similar to mine (i've personally never left a yelp review) - to the owner, if you're reading this, take a hint and try being a decent human being :)

I've been to bar area a number of times -- I don't drink coffee, so do not read anything into my not mentioning the coffee shop up front. They have a great beer selection and a full bar. All the bartenders I have encountered were very friendly and eager to help you make a beverage selection. The place is a bit small, so get there early if you want a place to sit. This is my go-to spot in Alphabet City when I arrive early for something and need a place to chill for a bit.

Just drove 20 mins to come here and the guy working decided to close 30 mins early. Think the owner should know. Not cool.

I really hate to write this negative review, but after a couple of bad interactions with the "owner" (or at least I think its the owner), I have to share my experience. 1st Ill say I live across the street from this place and was a regular customer here for the last 2 months since I've moved into the neighborhood, I will never go again, and here is the reason why... 1) The coffee is mediocre in my opinion... I came here bc it was just way too convenient not to, but will now walk an extra couple blocks to the better coffee shops around the corner and down the street. 2) The space is cool, as they have this awesome little back section but for some reason, its "not available" until 4pm. THIS IS WHERE THE TROUBLE STARTED. I've had a run-in with the same guy ( maybe owner) where I was using the backroom to make a quick call, and he informed me this room was off-limits until 4pm - This doesn't make sense as the room is empty, has couches and also is where the restrooms were. BUT its his coffee shop so I obliged and went into the bathroom where I continued my call ( not an ideal situation) . Seeing as that first call was private, and I was sharing personal info over the phone, I felt uncomfortable having it in the front area with 5 or 6 people within earshot and music playing in the background, so I figured a 5-minute call in the "Restricted area" wouldn't be a big deal. APPARENTLY I WAS WRONG! Today unexpectedly as I was having my coffee and working in the front area, I got an important call. Knowing how strict they were about the back area, I asked the Barista "can I take a quick call in the back" she said sure. After about 1 or 2 minutes, the owner guy enters again, and mid-call tells me I need to leave that area. I told him I was going to be on a quick call and would leave as soon as I was done. He told me this wasn't ok, and which point i questioned the logic, and he then told me " If I ever have to tell you again, you won't be allowed back into the store" MIND BLOWN!!!!!! This guy is basically the hipster version of the Soup Nazi with his backroom. Of course, at this point, I packed up my stuff and left, told him how ridiculous this was, how I would never patron his establishment again, and how I was going to share my experience. He obviously didn't care, I guess one customer won't make or break you but based on my experience they are never that busy, so probably not great either. Rents are high in NYC, as a business owner you probably shouldn't treat your regular customers like crap when they want to make a 5-10 minute phone call, especially when you're coffee is just not that good. Its sad, but this place will probably go out of business eventually, and hopefully, a more thoughtful owner steps in for a better coffee shop! 3) I almost forgot. Their Nitro Cold Brew is always broken! My 3 reasons to never buy anything from The Roost again PS If you're looking for a mediocre coffee and dont plan to stay in the shop for more than a couple minutes this isnt a bad option, and its convenient if youre on Ave B and 14th or nearby.... otherwise better options on Ave A and C and a few blocks down further on Ave B

The Roost is a true find!! The Roost consists of a cafe in the front and a bar space in the back. I must say I walked by this place many times before I realized it was a bar, too. This feature makes it a little secluded and a bit more intimate than your run-of-the-mill cocktail bar in the city. The bar area is beautiful with leather couches and candle-lit tables. I came on a Thursday night and there was plenty of seating. Also BONUS- after 8pm, cocktails are half-off on Thursdays! The bartender was super sweet and very helpful. I ordered a Dark and Stormy, which was very tasty. We decided to cap the night off with some pizza, because why the heck not. Their kitchen makes pizza until close, so we got the Margarita. It was rather small, but for only $10, that was to be expected. The sauce was made with San Marzano tomatoes, which made for some really delicious pizza. I was super impressed. HIGHLY recommend this spot. I'll be back for sure.

The Roost just upgraded and added a next new communal table in the front coffee room, as well as its own brand of coffee and a loyalty system where customers earn points with each purchase. You can still get delicious pastries, sandwiches fruit and chips. The Roost always has had some of the best coffee around, along with a 3 fantastic distinct spaces; the front coffee room, the lounge and the cool rustic bar in the rear. Is it possible to give more than 5 stars? If so, I would.

I've been coming here multiple times a week because I love the coffee, but also the beer selection so much! It's such a quaint spot and is never too rowdy.

Today I decided to take a break from working at my apartment, so I purchased a coffee at The Roost and grabbed a seat outside with my computer, as others had already done. I noticed my battery was dying so I plugged in my comp and started working while enjoying my coffee. The male barista comes over, taps me on the shoulder and says "uh, can you unplug your computer?" I said yes, thinking he wanted to plug something else in, and he goes "YeAh wE DoN't OfFeR fReE eLeCtRiCiTy." Rolls his eyes and moves the extension cord so I couldn't use it. What the heck?? It was so mean. I've been coming to the Roost nearly everyday for over a year because it's close to my place and I want to support local business, but this one guy who works at the front is so consistently rude and condescending to customers that I can't keep coming back. This isn't my first bad interaction with him and I've seen him do things like this to other patrons in the past. I don't understand why he does it.. it's so much easier to be nice lol. Anyway, I downloaded Yelp just to write this review. I'd recommend taking your business to other local coffee shops :/

I like coming to this place and think it's cute and a really good idea having the bar in the back. The coffee is fine nothing too great or too bad to say about it. The reason I'm giving 2 stars is because a guy that works there (guessing the manager/owner based on all the other similar reviews) is such a jerk! I was genuinely surprised how rude he was to his customers yelling at people sitting outside. Guy really shouldn't be in the service industry. I would like to come back but I don't feel like being yelled at while having my morning coffee...

This morning I went to get a pastry. I was there right when it opened. The person who works there was taking pastries out of the box with their hands and was not wearing a mask.

I really wanted to like this place, I almost gave a five star before the barista charged me. Got a four dollar latte but there's a five dollar minimum. After I explained that I did not carry cash with me, the barista insisted charging me the minimum amount. To be honest, I don't care about that one dollar, what I cared about was your attitude. Shouldn't you offer something like a banana to add on top? I offered it myself! To me, it felt like you are living on that one extra dollar. Ok here you go. Not gonna come back for the rest of my life; not even I have five dollar cash on hand.

So every New Yorker needs a go-to coffee spot. And a go-to bar. Well lucky for you, the Roost is both. Come here for a quick caffeine fix or a few glasses of wine. You will find the atmosphere nice and cozy. There's something very classy about it but it's not at all pretentious. During the day, it's a bit quieter but nights can get pretty crazy here. Baristas and bartenders alike will definitely take care of you. Enjoy :)

3-star cold brew at a 5-star place. The cold brew tastes more like a solid iced coffee, perfect for a lighter afternoon pick-me-up, but the space is amazing. Love the friendly service and rustic decor (barn doors, exposed beams, dark hardware). Especially love the layout - great coffee shop in the front, beautiful full bar with plenty of seating in the back. Cozy without the usual East Village grunge. $5 card minimum but they'll allow you to pay for your next coffee now (and will take your word for it when you return) which shows what a neighborhood gem this place truly is. Great 1980's playlist that I didn't mind playing on the louder side as I was working. The windowsill seat has some great natural light coming in and the barista was super friendly and nice to us. There's also TWO bathrooms---like whaaaaa! It's a bar at the back and a coffee shop at the front, good wifi and great aesthetics! Gem in ave B! Would come again to chit chat or get work done, especially on a sunny day. The coffee is from Brooklyn roasting company

Cute and homey vibe at the roost. My roommate dragged me here early one morning to grab teas and biscotti. Solid WiFi, cozy, and friendly servers. For me, friendly servers make up 80pc of the experience. We ordered our tea and biscotti and sat down. Can't peg down what kind of cafe this is, but it turns into a bar at night. There's a room in the back with a nice, big leather couch. Looks like a cozy spot to hang out in at night with a glass of wine. I haven't experienced the roost at night but I'll be back for a drink. The tea and coffee were standard, but the biscotti was delicious. We both agreed that it was the best biscotti we've had in New York. If you're in the area, come check it out.

"They're not paying customers. This isn't WeWork." Ok, we get it. Rent is expensive and the MULTIPLE $5 lattes that I buy DAILY isn't enough to cover it... but seriously, this remark made me uncomfortable and reminded me exactly why I never come here anymore. I've desperately given this place chance after chance because it's so close to home, but each time, the experience is worst than the last. The bar tender from last night said this out loud so that everyone left in the coffee shop could hear. She really was trying to make a point and had no shame. I returned this morning with a visibly broken wrist and was handed open cups of half full lattes and told that they didn't have enough change so I'd have to go to the bodega and buy something. I am literally never going here and again and highly recommend that you don't ever waste any of your hard earned coffee buying money here.

This coffee shop is super cozy and cute!! My roommates and I came here on a Sunday morning and picked up yogurt, chai latte, and honey almond latte + baked goods, all of which were delicious! Def will be back again for the next time we're super hungover and looking for some coffee and snacks. Also seems like a cute study spot

The quaintest little coffee shop/bar on 14th and avenue B. The atmosphere is very hipster/cozy cabin vibes. Would really recommend checking this place out if you're looking to grab a drink (coffee/beer) and want to have a good conversation without all the noise you'd typically hear at a bar. Note: the bar is located in the back, past the coffee shop counter!

I have found my late night coffee shop. Not only is this place open until 2am, but in the back there is a beautiful bar with comfy couches and a great ambiance. We ordered cappuccinos and then tea and we weren't disappointed. The prices were good and the cinnos delicious. Will 100% be coming back here.

My new go-to bar in EV. From the entrance, it sets you up for a great night. Expectations go from "wth is this" when you're at the cafe area to "wow, wth is this??" when you make your way to the back. It really is a great place for all occasions - a hangout with friends or even an intimate date. Plus, bartenders know their stuff here and they even got reasonably priced 2 oz scotch list that I definitely appreciate. Will be back for sure.

This is probably one of my favorite discreet bars in the East village! Doesn't get too overly packed, lots of couches for seating, and overall a very casual place to grab beers and hang out with friends!

I really like this place. Other than the fact that they have a $5 credit card minimum. This place is literally perfect. I've been looking for something like this for a long ass time. I can come to this place at 10am on the weekend to get some work done and read some sad blog post on depression, and then get a drink with my laptop out at the bar over a Pinot. The bartenders and baristas are super chill and nice and are really willing to accommodate on anything. The scones are actually super good and aren't subpar like some half-ass hipster-wanna-be cafes out there. High quality wines, beers and coffees. Music is pretty dope too. Can't beat. ***ALSO HALF OFF ALL WINE AND BEERS WEDNESDAY NIGHTS 8PM ONWARDS....!!!!

Honestly? I'm not a big fan of most third wave coffee shops. I always find myself paying $5+ for weak, watery coffee whenever I try a new place in the city. The Roost, to my absolute joy, is not like most small coffee shops in the city. The espresso, is full, bold, smooth, and dark -- as it should be! I enjoyed the best Americano I've had on this side of the Atlantic. And the prices are much more reasonable than its competitors. I'll definitely come later at night to check out the bar too!

The Roost is the coffee shop we all wish we had in our neighborhood. In my case it's good enough to make me regret that, despite how much time I might spend there, I don't actually live in the East Village. Why? Because it's not just a coffee shop. In the back-- not really hidden as such, but not overly obvious either-- is an honest-to-God, and rather large, bar! The coffee here is great, the couches are comfy, and one can seamlessly transition from slogging away at work with coffee to slogging away at work while enjoying a drink at the bar. Even if not drinking at the bar, it's perfect for people like me who often find themselves most productive in the late afternoon/early evening and thus are frequently at a loss as for a good place to work. (I've never actually drank here, but they have a pretty expansive beer and genuinely voluminous whisky selection.)

Five stars for the music. Seriously. None of that top 40 crap - well, okay, maybe a few of those. But Jamie XX? Now that's what I like to hear. Very long bar that gets somewhat crowded in the front, but opens up a tad towards the back. Great bar service and an awesome selection of beers on tap.

I have been trying to find deceiving places like the Roost in Big Apple for a long time. A coffee shop by day and a bar at night, what a great concept!!! This was our very first stop of the night on the LES. So, my friends and I by passed the coffee and pastries space, small lounge area and headed straight to the bar for DRINKS. This is a full bar with exposed brick walls, TV's above the bar and a large one on the back wall. They have a selection of 16 beers on tap, wide variety of bottles and cans for you to choose from in addition to the stiff drinks. Since I like my ale, the bartender (Brian) suggested the six point ale. It was very smooth but not as dark. The service was great and the prices are reasonable. I will see you soon "The Roost".

Finally got to visit the bar in the back when I was in the area early for an event. The front is a coffee bar offering snacks and a few pastries which is great if you just need a place to sit and relax for a few min. Walk further to the back and you'll find a surprisingly spacious dimly lit bar with couches. This is primarily a beer bar so stay away from the cocktails and stick to beer or your standard mixed drinks.

The guy bartender is literally the worst in the world. He is always rude. He can't handle large crowds he gets very overwhelmed it's sad. If he is off that night you should come here but other than that do not come here.

This is a very interesting place! The front seems like it would be just a coffee shop but the in the back is a full bar. It's a great spot for the fall / winter. I went with friends on a Friday night and we enjoyed a couple glasses of red wine. The wine was reasonably priced and the service was quick!

Like a good mullet it appears the Roost operates under a "business in the front, party in the back" motto. The Roost is pretty unique -- it is a coffee shop upfront, and a sweet bar in the back. My review is only applicable to the bar as I did not partake in any coffee or baked goods. The storefront is an unassuming coffee shop, with a "hidden" bar section in the back accessible through a hallway on the left side of the shop. I put "hidden" in quotes because it's not like they are trying to hide it, but they don't draw attention to it either. I am betting that there are hundreds of people who pass by every day thinking it is only a coffee shop and not a sweet bar. The bar in back as long and deceivingly expansive, and style nicely with tons of exposed wood, brick and raw iron fixtures. They have 2 kick ass leather couches, something you would probably see at pottery barn. The wooden tables are all seemingly raw or reclaimed wood, sitting on simple iron piping for the bases. There are old Edison bulbs all around, but they cover them up with protective covers and they kinda lose their impact. One great feature of this bar that you may miss in the evening are the giant skylights that pour sunlight into the space. I am pretty sure this bar sits in the alleyway between blocks and it greatly benefits from the unobstructed pathway to the stars. This bar has walls of whiskies, about a dozen draught beers on tap, and a couple variants of sangria. Despite proudly displaying the whiskies on the wall, the bartender admitted she did not make a very good old fashioned. I rolled the dice and ordered one anyway. She was right, but the only problem was a little too much angostura. I appreciated her honesty, but I feel any bartender should make a damn good old fashioned in a whisky bar. The rest of the afternoon we ordered some beers and Dark and Stormy's served in mason jars while we watched the World Cup. The place never got too busy, but we were only there from 4-7. I will definitely be going back when in the area.

Came here to get a coffee and do some work during the day - the coffee was good and the space was bright with natural light, although there wasn't too much seating in the front area. However, I probably won't be coming back because the manager (or at least a man acting like he had a lot of authority) was completely rude to a fellow patron while I was there, so much so that this was a full 2 weeks ago and I'm still thinking about it. If laptops aren't allowed in a certain area, then put signage up saying so instead of yelling at customers. If bikes aren't allowed to be parked in front of your store, please ask people nicely to move them and give a reason why.

The Roost is a coffee shop right now but will soon be a restaurant/bar from what I'm told. So i can only review the coffee and it's delicious. The staff is super friendly and it looks like this place is going to be a hit in a neighborhood that needs it. So excited!

"One morning, I shot an elephant in my pajamas. How he got into my pajamas, I don't know." It's all here --- Coffee shop by day and bar by night. Some might even say it's a hidden bar, because the front of this joint belies the huge rooms that lay beyond it. I don't want to use the term "speakeasy". Because it doesn't conform to any sense or sensibility of a modern version of this in 2013. Except it's hidden. But doesn't have the cocktail mixology, gangster vibe, art decor decor or comfy quaintness of one. What's to cheer? * Sliding barn doors lead the way * 1930's feral, bucolic decor -- knotty wood floors, big sofas. * Lots and LOTS of beer on tap. Including a very personal favourite, Bell's Beer from my home state of Michigan. * Cool enough to take a date (and lots of real votive candles here) * A real coffee menu and machine * Good bourbons/rye are stocked * While Pouring Ribbons is great, this place is more casual and for a more lower key night (and less expensive) What's to jeer? * A fake fireplace. Ugh. * No real cocktail list * Focused on just the brown spirits, and the Scots haven't arrived here. I live in the neighborhood, so I'm sure I will be a frequent imbiber here.

Never going back, very many coffee shops in the neighborhood, with less expensive coffee. The manager is rude. If laptops or iPads are not allowed between the closed bar in the back and the front counter (dubious business decision) then signage should be posted.
