"There's no shortage of history at The Royal Oak; it's reputedly one of the oldest pubs in the country and Oliver Cromwell is said to have stayed here in 1642. A strong farm-to-fork ethos runs throughout the menu, pushing organic and wild ingredients to the fore, while game is often shot to order. Assured, understated dishes are created with obvious care and a delicate touch – most have just three or four components (cod, parsnip and dulse with a cider and tarragon sauce, for instance), which allows each first-class ingredient to really shine. Charming service helps things along nicely." - Michelin Inspector

My wife and I couldn’t have asked for a better first Michelin meal. With only 5 or so tables, the space is intimate, and the husband and wife team spent unrushed time genuinely showing interest in us. The tasting menu was a delightful experience I’ve already recommended to friends.

I’ve never experienced such a pleasant, unrushed, completely joyful and hospitable team of excellent staff and chefs. This felt like a dream opportunity and experience. The owners waited on us, told lovely stories, served incredible Michelin rated food, and made our night. Worth the drive.

Fantastic food in the perfect environment served by great people! If you want a Michelin star dining experience as well as a beautiful country pub environment with an outstanding open fire. Look no further. The staff took the time to get to know us and make us feel like a local. We’ll be returning time and time again!

Such a beautiful restaurant. The food here is absolutely amazing and delicious with lots of locally sourced ingredients. The staff are so friendly and an evening here is relaxing and special.

Outstanding pub/restaurant in the countryside. Mix of old build and modern deco. Food reliably outstanding. Dogs allowed in restaurant sadly. Otherwise, it is a great atmosphere with a mix of old, family, and Instagram generations. Would be good to allow both course numbers/menus at the same table. Food is sublime - local and seasonal.

Atmosphere is nice in there and service is personable but food was incredibly overstated and bland. For the cost it was an extremely disappointing experience. The food was hyped with description but was extremely boring and quite frankly, bland and lazy. Will certainly not return.

Incredible food, using brilliant seasonal ingredients. The service and friendliness from all the staff was wonderfully welcoming. A quiet local pub vibe, but wonderful for lunch. Our only regret was not having time for the full tasting menu - but we will be back!
