So beautiful inside and out. I enjoyed a great hotdog here. Not too busy. Plenty of seating inside and outside. I’ve only been to one vendor here but it was great. The interior of the building is a must see

During my recent visit to S & W Market in Asheville, NC, that showcased a variety of delicious offerings. The highlight of my meal was the Thai pork skewers, which were perfectly cooked and accompanied by a fantastic spicy sauce that added just the right amount of heat. The chicken sandwiches were equally impressive, featuring tender, flavorful chicken paired with crispy fries that were golden and satisfying. In addition to the excellent food, the market's coffee shop offered a delightful selection of beverages. My son thoroughly enjoyed his matcha, which was prepared to perfection. The ambiance of S & W Market is both welcoming and vibrant, making it a great spot for a meal or a quick coffee break. Overall, I highly recommend S & W Market for its diverse and delicious food options, friendly atmosphere, and excellent service.

Google
Neat little food hall. A great repurpose of the building. Limited number of vendors but they all seemed like great options. I had a bratwurst from Farm Dogs and it was best bratwurst I’ve ever had. I also had the Buffalo chicken sandwich from Buxton’s and it was quite good. Really crispy which I enjoyed. Definitely worth checking out.

From what I'm told, the restaurants change out often. Right now I highly recommend Bun Intended, they are so good. But also everything is good. They have such great decor, there's seating downstairs and upstairs, and the bathrooms are clean. The marble stairs are really cool and you can tell they're original. I also really liked the hot dogs from Farm Dog, and the empanadas are great.

Google
A couple options here at the market which varied between fried chicken, tai food, empanadas and a couple dessert foods. Buxton Chicken Palace is where I chose to ate the chicken tenders were very good. I didn’t enjoy the honey sugars but they had a very good white bbq sauce. It was a little busy so that might be why the wait was so long but I will say if I were in a rush I would’ve had to leave without my food bc it took about 30 minutes to get chicken tenders. The tai place was very good not many menu options but was fast and delicious. Upstairs there is plenty of seating and the highland brewery where you can buy beer.

Google
Underrated for sure. Great food, great atmosphere. Prices were average. My only complaint was driving around quite a long time to find parking!! Most of the lots surrounding where four those who work in the area. Finally found a parking garage and walked about eight minutes.

Google
Lovely atmosphere! I like that this place is great not just for the food but the welcoming and cozy vibes. As first timers, me and my friends loved it. I stopped by the chicken palace and ice cream spots, and my friend, at the Thai stop. So, we recommend !

Google
I love food halls, so when I found out one opened in Asheville, I stopped by on my most recent trip. The inside of the renovated building is really nice. It's a very small food hall. There are only 6 food stalls (though one is a brewery that doesn't serve food). Small selection aside, we enjoyed our food. We tried Farm Dogs, Bun Intended, and The Hop. There's some seating inside as well as a few tables on the sidewalk outside. If you're in the area, I think it's worth stopping at to try one or two of the places.

Yelp
The S&W Market is a place you should visit, dine, booze and chill at while in Asheville. I love art deco buildings, so of course, when I was walking around downtown Asheville and saw this beautiful, historic building, I knew there was something special here. Lo and behold, the S&W Market is a food hall, serving different vendors/food options with a brewery on the second level. I later learned that this building actually was a cafeteria back in the day, so naturally, it would be a modern day food hall while still embracing its historic setting. It's worth a gander, at the very least. It's not the biggest food hall, but what they offer is quality. If you want the best fried chicken sandwiches, hot dogs with inventive toppings, Peruvian empanadas, street Thai food, handmade ice cream or local craft beer, then you've come to the right place. It's a fun place to grab a bite and drink and sit where many others have.

Brooke H.

Yelp
Small-ish food market with 4-5 choices for food, a coffee vendor, ice cream vendor, plus a bar upstairs. We got steamed buns and beer, ate on the second floor, and enjoyed every bite & sip. The building is also noteworthy as a beautifully restored art deco space.

Kristine F.

Yelp
5 stars specifically for "Flour". OMG the BEST sandwich I ever had! First of all... the service is too notch. There something to be said when someone asks you your name and uses it with sincerity. What a way to make you feel like a valued customer. I had the Prosciutto & Mozz based on their recommendation. The flavor is AMAZING! So fresh, light, delicious....just wow. You can't go wrong. I can say this is definitely the number one places to stop if you're in Asheville..

Hannah H.

Yelp
Y'all know I love a good charcuterie experience + Gourmand is in my top 5. They just opened in the S&W Food Hall in downtown Asheville and they're serving up delicious wines (check out their orange wines), meats, cheeses, and other delicacies. The owners have traveled all over Europe honing their craft and it shows. We recently stopped by and tried their special (swipe to see what's inside this delicious dough) - ramp sausage roll + brûléed epoisses cheese. We also had to try one of their charcuterie boards which includes a few chefs choice items - the nduja was my favorite of the day. From New Orleans to NYC, these folks take such pride in their art.

Yelp
Super cute market located in downtown Asheville. It has indoor and outdoor seating. For being a food market, it is on the small side. It has about four to five food spots including a brewery on the top floor. The food stalls included empanadas, hot dogs, fried chicken, and Thai street food. We came and had an empanada and then a beer on the top floor. The brewery offers shuffleboard which was fun to do while we sipped out beers. I am a huge food hall fan, but this one was missing flavor and more options.

John B.

Yelp
It seems like Asheville is enough of a food city to have a food hall, and this one looks the part, with a majestic two-level indoor space and some outdoor seating as well. The choices I find bizarrely poor. Asheville surely has one of the highest per-capita concentrations of vegans in the country, but some of their vendors have little and some have nothing for the hungry vegetarian. I don't get it. Those I could patronize were interesting, if overpriced. I also note that their restrooms seem perpetually out of operation. The place seems on the lower end of food halls, one where you'd go, but never as a first choice. It should be better.

Kat H.

Yelp
Very busy but a good place for groups of people that like different cuisines. Fast, easy and decently priced. Food was really good and fresh.

Charles V.

Yelp
If you are looking for a casual place to hang out, eat a variety of food, throw back a few beers (or some wine), and possibly listen to some live music ... look no further. This small and historic venue has a lot to offer. This place is small. So seating may be an issue during busy periods. But if you are willing to wait, a table will open up quickly. As for the food, I think I counted at least 5 vendors offering different cuisine. and the ones I tried are quite tasty. Upstairs, you will find Highland Brewing. And, well, you know what to find there! Go check it out!

Robert K.

Yelp
A fun place to be! Lots of food choices as well as brewery. Very clean restrooms. Ample clean seating both inside and outside.

Alexis R.

Yelp
Such a cool place to sit, eat, and drink! We tried several of their shops while on a tour and will plan on coming back!

Janice T.

Yelp
The nice thing about Downtown Asheville is that everything is close to each other! While walking to Breakout games, we had some time to spare and checked out the S & W Market. It's right next door! Another nice surprise and I was able to check out another bookmarked location! If anything, the historic Art Deco building is just simply cool in its own right. While I was expecting a large food hall, it turns out this has only six local vendors: Highland Brewing, Buxton Chicken Palace, Bun Intended, Farm Dogs, Peace Love Tacos, and The Hop. We already had dinner and made a bee line to The Hop to try out some ice cream. I had the Aztec Chocolate and the cardamom ice cream. My goodness! The Aztec Chocolate was rich and had the spicy kick I was hoping for! Soo good! The Cardamom was overshadowed by the strong rich flavors of the Aztec Chocolate. I had to look up the history because the building just has a lot of character. It was designed by architect Douglas Ellington who designed the S & W Cafeterias based in Charlotte. Douglas Ellington's two nephews now own the building and are honoring the tradition and original mission of S & W Cafeteria. This mission is to " serve locally sourced food, quickly, in a pristine upscale environment that elevates the dining experience." It's a good option for quick food and if you still want a place to sit and dine.

Devin T.

Yelp
Nice place for food and a drink. The downstairs is food court style. Highland brewery is upstairs. There plenty of seating and games to play

Jessica G.

Yelp
This place has everything. If it's summer (or even if it's not), stop in here and get the ice cream from The Shop and you won't be sad that you did. Take a break in the air conditioned building and get off your feet! This place has plenty of seating and plenty of places to choose from if you want a snack or just a drink! There are multiple places you could choose from and you won't be disappointed!

Lan S.

Yelp
It always great to revisit the old S&W Cafeteria building. The exterior is a wonderful example of Art Deco by Douglas Ellington, and the inside is still a classic, especially the marble stairs to the second floor mezzanine, worn down by hundreds of thousands of footsteps over the years. There are, I believe, nine vendors in the S&W Market now, and on a Friday night it was hopping. In fact, it was a little TOO hopping. Highland Brewery's taproom on the second floor was extremely loud, with the famed Bearded Lady doing some kind of "name that tune" game. On Saturdays, if I recall correctly, she hosts a drag show there. It was just too noisy to want to sit down and have a bite, although some of us did get ice cream from The Hop for takeout. Chai Pani's chicken sandwich spot seemed very popular, and the sandwiches looked good, but we didn't try it. After dinner at The Exchange at the new Restoration Hotel and after popping in here at the food court, we went across the street and had a good time at the Friday evening Drumming Circle. (See photo.)

Yelp
While the venue is great, this review is specifically for the newly opened restaurant 'Flour'. We had their pizzas (2 different types) and the spiced cauliflower sandwich. Everything is made on their freshly baked focaccia bread and is very flavorful. It was good enough to make us return multiple times over a short visit to Asheville. The staff is also very welcoming, and we'll be back when we're in the city again.

Alex S.

Yelp
One of the best chicken salad sandwiches on ciabatta with Kalamata olives I've ever had in my life, place is sweet!

Allison M.

Yelp
Love this place! While parking can be tough (free on Sundays though), and the downtown location can sometimes be a deterrent, I would still recommend checking it out. Great meeting place for friends and dates as there is something for all. It is a good hall but it doesn't have the feel of one. Gorgeous architecture and cozy seating. Lots of food and drink options on the bottom floor (Asian, gourmet hot dogs, chicken, tacos etc) and highland on top. The lines are never too long but places aren't always open and sometimes they run out. You'll definitely be able to find something here. Usually I just grab a drink. I love when they have music because the bands play on the bottom floor but you can watch them from the balcony. Excellent location and acoustics. Highly recommend this unique and classy food hall!

Yelp
S&W Market is a pretty cool joint. It's basically a small food hall that currently has 5 food vendors on the lower level and Highland Brewing taking the upper level over. This would be a cool joint to meet up with friends while figuring out the evening's plans or to grab a quick bite. Visiting on a Monday evening the crowd was light so waiting to order and finding seating was no issue at all. I ordered a bun from Bun Intended along with a beer from Highland and will review accordingly.

Theanna L.

Yelp
What a surprise! You enter the "market" and it's so beautiful. They did a really good job of allowing each vendor to showcase their own style and ambiance while holding a lot of buildings character. Button Chicken Palace- Ordered the Buxton Original Sandwich with Waffle fries The batter was really flavorful on the chicken. The chicken bread was so large, you could have split the chicken breast in half and made 2 sandwiches ! Waffle fries were amazingly seasoned and so crisp. Bun Intended - Ordered the Thai Fried rice with Chicken and a side of the cucumber salad. Very large servings, I had more than enough to bring home. The rice was made to perfection. The combination of the rice with the crispy cucumber salad was a great combo. I wish it had more chicken though.. I ran out after my first couple of bites. The space has a lot to offer! The bathrooms were clean. They have free water available. I noticed they have events there's sometimes as well. I'll definitely return.

Emily R.

Yelp
Perfect lunch spot with great ambience, food and beer! Buxton Chicken Nuggets were delicious! Crispy and crunchy with a pretty large portion. Bun Intended was also great but the fried tofu and papaya salad were a bit spicy.

Annette B.

Yelp
Beautifully preserved building with lots of history that continues on as a food hall. Lots of variety here!

Alexandra S.

Yelp
We went to Highland at S&W on a Friday night for drag queen Singo! It was a lot of fun! The building is beautiful and it conveniently is filled with a bunch of food stands so come hungry. Singo was free to play, but you'll need a smart phone cause it's a phone based game. Winners of each round spin a wheel to see what kind of challenge they have to do, and each player receives a beer token! Score! Bring cash to tip Divine! She was so funny and was calling our friend Zaddy, and even gave him a 'hi my name is' sticker where she wrote ZADDY, we were cracking up. We ordered two cheese empanadas from one of the food stands during intermission, and in total, I think we played 5 rounds of Singo in the two hour block.

Yelp
Asheville finally has a food hall and it's actually really amazing! Walking into this art deco landmark sets the tone. While it may be a small collection of food, it is mighty: Farm Dogs, Peace Love and Tacos, Bun Intended, Buxton Chicken Palace, The Hop Ice Cream and Highland Brewery all under the same roof. This is a curated Asheville restaurant collection that brings some signature and iconic food and beverage in one convenient stop. Not just for tourists, but for locals. This is an epic place for some tapas style sampling and sharing. I enjoyed some really tasty tacos from Peace, Love and Tacos (the meat is tender and the garnishes really add some nice acid and pop) along with a peach beer from Highland Brewery. I love that they have a smaller pour for "day drinking." My husband had a farm dog and a chicken sandwich from Buxton. The Chicken Sandwich sort of stole the show there - how the heck do they get it so tender and juicy inside, but so crispy outside? We finished the meal with The Hop ice cream because you can't go wrong. Mocha Oreo and Salted Caramels are our all time faves. They were sweet enough to make a fresh waffle bowl for my daughter and she polished off the whole 2 scoops! This place rocks. So happy it's here!

Eliza H.

Yelp
I appreciate the entire food hall vibe, but Bun Intended is definitely the highlight! The salapao is so flavorful, with soft pillowy bao and tender seasoned pork. Every special I've gotten has also been fantastic. The one pictured here was a cold noodle bowl with pork belly, and I'd love if they made it a permanent option on the menu! Definitely recommend checking them out. The Hop and Buxton Chicken Palace are also great, especially the fries at the latter. I have to admit, I wasn't impressed with the barbacoa taco at Peace Love Tacos, but I also lived in San Antonio for a while so my taco standards are incredibly high. Haven't had a chance to try Farm Dogs yet because I always end up getting my meal from Bun Intended, but it's next on the list for sure!

Jamie W.

Yelp
So much fun! People were dancing and singing, it was filled with people just enjoying the lively vibe. (And we went there on a Monday late afternoon.) We tried Peace Love & Tacos ... Little Red Rooster & The Blaze. The tacos were good, but not WOW. The flavor profile is lacking (definitely needs seasoned with salt). The other issue is that the ingredients aren't drained before adding to the tacos, so you have a very drippy wet mess. We got the seasoned waffle fries from Buxton, they were very good! I am not a seasoned fry fan usually, but the seasoning mix was super good on these! The fries were cooked to perfection. We grabbed the pretzel knots with stone ground mustard dip and beer cheese. The beer cheese was YumO, the mustard had a lot of hot horseradish which we enjoyed. The pretzels were okay, they obviously weren't fresh. So I would guess that fresh they would be bomb. We ended our meal with dessert from the Hop. I got a scoop of Aztec Chocolate, very creamy, rich with a nice kick from the spice. The hubs got a scoop of butter pecan. He said it was very good, but not on the same level as the butter pecan at Blue Mountain Pizza (which is epic.) All in all this was just a great experience and we are looking forward to coming back. Hopefully next time we will find a pizza place there ;)

Nicole S.

Yelp
I am a history lover and right when I walked into SW I knew I wanted to know the background of this awesome new food hall. It is a historic building and goes all the way back to 1920s and has had various identities and has held different restaurants over time. Currently the Market is composed of a Highlands taproom upstairs with a taco joint, hotdog spot, ice cream parlor, Bun intended, and chicken sandwich spot. They also have a bar next door that you can access through the hallway to get to the bathroom. We decided to grab a beverage at Highlands and sit downstairs and eat our food from Bun Intended and Peace Love and Tacos. My friend got a SALAPAO and I got the nachos from Peace Love Tacos. Both were delicious and in the images below. Overall, this is a super cool spot right downtown with plenty of food options for a group of friends who are indecisive.

Max H.

Yelp
Super cute art deco styled eatery in downtown with accessible parking! Great for kids and families, everyone can get a little of what they want whether it's ice cream, fried chicken or empanadas!

Pranav S.

Yelp
Food portions are too small, prices are too high. Would not recommend, the choices aren't very good also. Some servers were rude as well.

Gretchen L.

Yelp
Excellent space and options. Went with family and we all were able to find something delicious- despite dietary restrictions. Bun Intended was delicious- veggie bun piled so high with veggies! Buxtons spicy chicken sandwich with palace sauce was the best chicken sandwich we've ever had. Then to top it off, awesome awesome ice cream at The Hop! Fresh, local strawberry- delicious!! Great service at all the spots! Highly recommend!!!

Sara O.

Yelp
The building itself is amazing! I'm so happy to see it getting repurposed as a food hall. There is certainly a diverse set of options to choose from but it just wasn't for me. My sister ate at Mikasa and enjoyed the empanadas. Dad had wine from the wine bar and it was okay. Staff at all the stalls were really kind as are most people in Asheville!

Carl S.

Yelp
This is a great new concept in Asheville of a food hall in downtown. I love the options and the general seating in the historic building. This is a very clean environment and a great addition to the area. Great vibe... fun options to eat and drink

Scott L.

Yelp
Just got kicked off the property because I was standing inside the doorway with my dog, leashed and being rubbed down by three of the patrons about the leave, while waiting for my daughter to order to go food. Guy with security on his shirt treated me like I just committed a crime. Embarrassed me in front of my family. Rude and unacceptable. Threaten to call the police if I didn't leave the sidewalk.

Suzanne T.

Yelp
Great vibe, if noisy. DELICIOUS food. Last week's Buxton Chicken Palace was wow! Today's selection from Farm Dogs is full of flavor.

Ellie W.

Yelp
I would steer clear of Peace Love Taco. Overpriced tacos for meat that was far too dry and raw corn tortillas. Everyone knows corn tortillas need to be pan fried or at least heated up first to be edible! Should've known by the name that the tacos would be subpar. There is too much good food in Asheville to waste your taste buds here.

Madison H.

Yelp
This was a very fun market with a variety of food places to choose from. The atmosphere was energetic, vibrant and clean. All of the food is delicious and I would definitely go back! I highly recommend.

Lisa H.

Yelp
Was excited to come here since it is relatively new, but I just wish there were more food vendors/options. The entire upstairs (besides the bar) is for seating, and the food hall is a good place to get a few different things from different cuisines. I got an American hotdog from the dog stand, and Mexican corn as a side from the taco stand. They were alright, but next time would definitely want to try the bao and fried chicken stalls. There's also an ice cream stall, but I feel like they could fit one or two more vendors downstairs, as the place is very spacious. They routinely have live music playing as well, and the location is central downtown.

Kelly W.

Yelp
Love this little cafeteria concept. It was great for our group because we all had different thoughts on what to get for lunch. It's located in one of the main drags of downtown so it was an easy walkable option for us. Inside food options are tacos, Asian, ice cream and fried chicken. Highland brewing is also in there and there is a bar attached for all of your beer/wine/liquor needs. I ended up getting a beer from the upstairs brewery bar and a meal from the taco place. I got 1 taco and chips and guac. I was a little shocked that one tiny taco was $5 but it was delicious so it made the sting from the price a little less. I'm from Orlando and I guess I'm spoiled, I'm used to paying $2.50-4 for most single tacos. The chips and guac was delicious as well, the chips were warm and it was a generous portion of guac. Highland brewing had options downstairs and some different options upstairs as well as flight offerings. I opted for just a single beer, it was delicious! We ended up sitting upstairs hoping that it would be quieter but unfortunately the acoustics in the building are crazy and it was noisy everywhere. Aside from the noise we all enjoyed our food and drinks, I would return to S&W Market next time I'm in town.

Christina V.

Yelp
Good place to get a variety of food for a family that can't agree. Peace love tacos: 4 star Had nachos (huge helping with very good toppings), Mexican street corn (was delicious and a little spicier than expected), chips and salsa (also a generous portion size), and two tacos (pork and chicken, they were delicious but I'd say a little over priced for what you get, definitely need two). Farm dogs: 3 star Had the sausage with sauerkraut and dark mustard (sausage was a little smaller than expected but toppings were good). Also got peach lemonade (yummy).

Michael M.

Yelp
A foodhall in Asheville, what?! The market features beer from Highland, hot dogs from farm dogs (A Farm Burger joint), the Hop ice cream, tacos, thai food, and Buxton chicken sandwiches. My wife and I tried the chicken pad see ew from the thai place and the thai coffee. Both were very good. The portions are what you expect from a food hall (just right). We also tried the spicy chicken sandwich which was spiced just right. We will definitely come back!

Bob P.

Yelp
This place has some of the best food you can get in Asheville and a downtown highland brewery taproom. It is in a beautifully restored old building. All the staff are lovely and helpful. The scene has not quite caught up to how great it is, but it fills a key gap. Do yourself a favor and go here if you are having trouble finding a place to eat on a busy night.

Ben N.

Yelp
Love the concept and the new addition to downtown. Definitely the coolest food court I have ever seen. We tried Farm Dog and Bun Intended, both of which were fantastic. Worth a visit for locals and visitors!

Kenneth E.

Yelp
Great ambiance in a beautifully restored downtown icon. The chicken nuggets with white sauce were outstanding
