We had high hopes for this place, but the overall experience was disappointing. Perhaps a clue should have been it was dinner time on a Saturday night and there was hardly anyone there. The menu & decor looks like a nicer restaurant, good for a date night, but the music they were playing on a Saturday night seemed to be at odds with that vibe (we enjoy current music, but on this night it was a bit too clubby & a tad too loud). And I get wanting to have a bit of cheeky fun with your holiday cocktails menu, but when you use the word "testicles" in the name of one of your holiday drinks, it's a bit too much for this type of restaurant (maybe use "jingle balls" instead?).
The food was hit or miss. We loved the chicken yakitori, but it would have been better if they served it removed from the skewer (it was awkward to try & remove the meat from the skewer, especially on the skinny plate it was served on), and they need to give you more of the chutney it's served with (there was maybe 2 tsp of it on a small plate). The harissa roasted cauliflower was supposedly seasoned with coconut curry & harissa, which we couldn't taste, and it came with candied blood orange & kumquats which were so strong in a sickly orange flavor they were a bit like soap. The third small plate we tried was the cornmeal crusted trout which didn't seem to go with the cold Tom Yum sauce it was served with, but the cucumber salad it also came with was good. I understand they are going for some interesting and unique flavor combos, but some of theses were just misses
The service was so-so. Our server was very nice, but when it came time to clear the table and bring the check she was doing everything but that. After 10 minutes of staring at our empty plates, eventually someone came to clear the table, and then we waited another 10 minutes for the check.
