The place is quite small, and while the food looks appealing, the taste didn’t really work for me. It might be because I’m used to a different style of food, so I couldn’t fully enjoy it. Flavor-wise, something was missing for me. The ambience is just average—there isn’t much in terms of interior decor; it feels like a simple, no-frills barbecue spot.

Google
Great food and a reasonable price. The serving size was quite large. I went around 1pm on a Friday and it wasn’t busy. The service was also good and pretty quick. I didn’t expect the small dishes of kimchi, tofu or seasoned vegetables and it was nice. You can order soups or dumplings or you can sit at a table with the bbq center and cook your food as you go.

Google
As a returning customer, this restaurant never fails to impress me with their high-quality food for a reasonable price. The Spicy Squid Stirfry was perfectly cooked and came with lots of vegetables, and the Soondubu was tender and filling! They also offered a variety of complimentary appetizers that were free to reorder. This place is perfect for those looking for a satisfying meal!

This place! Soooo happy to leave knight’s crap place for this! Spicy beef was not spicy enough so i got a GENEROUS portion of spices! 🥵🤯 i used half but should have used less 😂 … koreans dont play with spice!! I ordered the soup “medium” to be safe so i guess next time ill go for “spicy” as the menu calls it. Really impressed with the eggs too! “Shareable” indeed! Thankful for all the “bad” because it’s all in the plan!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

We were in the mood for Korean barbecue so we stopped by here. We caught them in the busiest time. It was the Ann Arbor arts fair. We had to wait a bit, but it was fabulous. The atmosphere is cozy and the service is friendly attentive. The manager was phenomenal. She had the sweetest personality and access if we need anything even though restaurant was busy the steamed egg was delicious. I would definitely go back to this place.

Google
The decorations in this place changed, it has more of a colorful and fun vibe now. The food is still of good quality and delicious. The manager always knows what the customers want and the service is really good. I'll be coming back with my friends.

Google
I visited yesterday evening located in Ann Arbor downtown “the suel “ with my friends . First of all the manager was extremely friendly and made us all feel welcome. The electric decor creates a cheerful vibe that makes you want to explore every corner and its vibrant colors and creative designs. The atmosphere is both entertaining and inviting. The side dishes were delicious especially brown color with flavors that really stood out. I would definitely love to visit again and highly recommended with others.

Google
The Bossam was a pleasant surprise. The pickled radish, sauce and pork belly that melts in your mouth creates a nice balance of texture and flavors. I wouldn't have ordered it just looking at the description on the menu, so it's worth asking the server for more details if one is not familiar with some of the dishes. Would come back and try a few more items.

Yelp
Oh man where do I start. Incredible portions, wonderfully marinated beef, sublime 반찬, and the service was quick. I also was in awe of how low the prices were too. Each bite was juicy, tender and well cooked. I was surprised to see such great Korean food in Ann Arbor, this place deserves the hype and would be back.

Yelp
Came here after a football game for dinner and had baby and toddler in tow as well. Very happy AA has some traditional Korean options compared to 5-8 years ago when we lived there, The servers were very friendly but for some reason wanted us to sit at a table that was connected to another party's table due to our stroller. The restaurant was fairly empty at this point so it wasn't because this was the only option... I tried explaining that we'd like to sit somewhere else but they didn't seem to understand so we just sat there hoping our kids wouldn't bother the other party! Aside from that - we were pleasantly surprised by dinner and how good the food was! Great flavor of the bulgogi, sundubu was decent but quite spicy. This was their combo meal and it was a generous amount of meat for a combo! Husband got the dol sot bibimbap and it was sizzling temperature hot! Banchan was very tasty, The servers were very kind to my kiddos and brought out a booster seat, plastic cup with lid for water. The bathrooms are single person and extremely spacious, clean, and the ladies room has a changing table. So other than the weird seating issue, very family friendly! I would go back if we lived in AA :)

Yelp
Amazing food especially for the specials. My partner and I love date night here, as $60 is a great deal for what we get. Going by myself for lunch I always get the $10 bibimbap special and it's delicious every time. Also such big portions, and such nice staff. What's not to love :)

Yelp
I was finishing up a shift in Ann Arbor and wanted something to eat before heading back to Grand Rapids. Nate and I both found The Seoul on Yelp so we headed over. The space includes BBQ grill tables but we just went with entrees. We were seated right away and got our orders in. The menu includes a lot of interesting dishes that I don't see at many Korean places in GR. I had tried a cold buckwheat noodle dish while in Korea recently, and was excited to see a version of it on the menu at The Seoul. Nate got the bibim guksoo, a spicy noodle dish, and we also got an order of gim mari twigim, or deep fried mini seaweed rolls. I loved the banchan! They gave us kimchi, fish cake, broccoli, and potato salad. They were all delicious. The gim mari twigim was okay, but not the best I've had. Our dishes were delicious and huge portions - we definitely could have split one dish. The bibim nengmyun was brothier than I was expecting but still very good. I didn't love the very hard boiled egg, but the noodles were delicious and it wasn't super spicy. Nate's dish was very spicy! I'm glad we checked out The Seoul and would love to come back and try more dishes.

Yelp
If you're craving authentic Korean food in Michigan, The Seoul is a hidden gem you won't want to miss! Located in a cozy spot, this restaurant offers a warm and inviting atmosphere that makes you feel like you've stepped into a traditional Korean home. The service is good. There's a nice server named Daniel.

Dr D.

Yelp
The server was taking customers pictures (mine included) WITHOUT OUR PERMISSION ! My popcorn chicken appetizer came AFTER I was half way thru with my main course. Everything was bland. No flavor. Poor service. I DONT RECOMMEND.
google avatar

Yelp
This was amazing. Really good - all of it! Nice choices and excellent sides of a variety of Kimchi. We had the Combo for 2 and there was a large variety of delicious meats and nice fresh cuts- not the this frozen curls you sometimes see- this was very authentic. The place to go if you want real good quality Korean BBQ or other favorites.
google avatar

Jessica T.

Yelp
The food was pretty good and you know it's legit when they bring out sides! It was overall a good experience, just the tables were dirty and it was hard to communicate it to the workers since most of them had a difficult time understanding English. Overall, a lot of good options and fresh food
google avatar

Yelp
The food is fine, nothing outstanding. I recommend coming here for the Friday lunch special; I would skip on getting any of the soups. The lunch specials, particularly the Friday one, is an absolute steal. It's 50% off most appetizers and the portions are HUGE. I've been here a couple of times, the soondobu and boodae jiggae are extremely underwhelming. Both taste bland and one note. The sides are good though. The service is hit or miss. Lunch service is good but you practically get 0 service for dinner and have to track down the servers.

Yelp
Sunday lunchtime. Dining room was slow but service was fast. Bright and clean dining room with grill tables for BBQ. We ordered spicy rice cake, toonsuyuk pork and Kalbi. She started the grill table and brought the banchan, dipping sauce for BBQ, side salad, and pink pickled radish wraps for the meat. The plate of meat brought out was a healthy portion but Kalbi Sal (boneless) but still the quality and flavor was there. We enjoyed every bite. The fried pork in a sweet and sour sauce was fresh and delicious. The spicy rice cake is hot. Not for the weak. I ate too much and have leftovers for days. The bottom line was about $66. Very reasonable for the feast we enjoyed. Solid spot for good Korean food and service.

Yelp
We stopped by here to try their kimchi paella, asked for no pork, but it's already all mixed together. The pork is not listed on the menu. They were also out of their crabby mushroom today. Striking out badly today with this place and their menu items. :/ I am not understanding how the pork meat and seafood and rice are already premixed, the paella must not be freshly made then and is sitting in a warmer then? Ended up ordering the popcorn chicken with a spicy sauce and the tteokbokki, spicy. They are out of the crab and mushroom salad and there's no way to get their kimchi seafood paella without pork . $24.38 The popcorn chicken flavor isn't bad, spicy, but lots of breaded pieces with little to no meat. The tteokbokki sauce tastes good, nice and spicy as well. The rice cakes are nice and chewy. Ended up getting their tteokbokki, spicy and their popcorn chicken with spicy chicken. Service was good, just one waitress managing the place, but there's only 3 tables at the moment. The banchans: broccoli, mashed potatoes, pickled radish, fish cakes and kimchi. None of the banchans were my favorite.

Yelp
This place was very good. Chose to order from a menu ( think bim bop with option of 2$ upgrade for a hot stone bowl- worth it ) or bulgogi etc. We started with the seafood pancake ( excellent ) and veggie dumplings ( a miss - deep fried and not amazing ). My kid loved his bulgogi ( didn't love the choice of sides though- avoid the one made with spam- ew). We had the bim bim bop in the hot stone bowls which was solidly good. Service was friendly and attentive. We would have preferred to cook our own and do the Korean bbq but not every table had the stove to do that and the wait was too long to hang around for one to open up. Oh well - next time- I'll be back if in the area as it seems like that is the way to go here Fair prices.

Yelp
The Seoul has authentic Korean staples like BBQ, Bibimbap, and Jajangmyun at reasonable prices. I've tried the Boodae Jigae, and the Dolsot Bibimbap served in a hot stone bowl. I highly recommend both. I love the sizzling sound of the Dolsot Bibimbap. It is so warm and comforting on a cold day. Same with any of the soups offered. There is another Korean restaurant down the road that is pricier and not nearly as good as The Seoul. It's one of the better Korean restaurants near the University of Michigan campus.

Yelp
We were in Ann Arbor for work and this place is a hidden gem. It had a very cozy interior. The service was awesome and the staff were very friendly. We loved the food. It was very flavorful and yummy. The noodle soup was very delicious.

Yelp
Came in on a Friday, which happened to be half off appetizer. $5 for this popcorn chicken is an absolute steal very addicting, good as any Korean fried chicken in terms of the batter. The ban Chan was solid really enjoyed the Kim chi would by it in bulk. My spicy pork was great love the purple sticky rice it was served with, great portion size. The bulgolgi stew had tofu, spice rice cakes, mung bean noodles, the beef bulgolgi and Napa. The broth had an aromatic sesame smell really enjoyable all n all will definitely come back. Looks like tomukun bbq has some solid competition.

Yelp
Korean barbeque is prefect for the cold weather in Ann Arbor. The Seoul has a great blend of meat with chill ambiance. The fluffy egg and side dishes go perfect with the meats available. Different combos for your party of size are convenient! Kalbi sal and chadol is really good and perfectly marinated. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Yulee K.

Yelp
Decent Korean food place in the area. I go here if I'm craving Korean food. I will say it is in the pricier range and they have limited seating. Service is not the best.

Ben L.

Yelp
The service was bad. A waitress was rushing us by putting all the remaining meals into the grill without asking us first. Also, when we asked her for an additional side dish, she responded with an unhappy face! When she put the side dish on the table and we said "thank you", she just turned around and shook her head...she might be having a bad day! The whole dinner took less than 45 mins. We felt rushed and uncomfortable the whole time despite there being open tables. We will not come back again! The one star is for the reasonable price and the good service by the waiter.
google avatar

Dhaval D.

Yelp
I've only ordered takeout from here but the food has been fairly good. I've tried the bibimbap, japchae, and soondubu. None of them have been particularly outstanding but will satisfy your korean food craving and the portions are pretty good too.
google avatar

Tommy V.

Yelp
My first time here, and I really liked it! The location has been two pizza places in the place, so I really hope it succeeds. There's plenty of Korean food to choose from, so there'll be something for everyone! The tables are great for groups of people, and the place is kept very clean which I appreciated. I got the bibimbop, and really loved it! It was delicious, very filling, and full of flavor. If you're not sure where to start, this may be a good starting point with familiar flavors and ingredients
google avatar

Yelp
Best lunch special in town (& there are a lot of GOOD Korean spots to chose from). Great service. Gets busy on weekends. Soondubu, bbq & popcorn chicken are soooooo good.
google avatar

Vikash K.

Yelp
Really enjoyed grabbing dinner here. The food tasted amazing. Kalbi. Beef brisket. Steak. And all the sides.
google avatar

Yelp
Food is great, the bon chan is fresh and delicious. BUT, the is absolutely zero reason to be serving people SCOLDING HOT soup that takes 1 hour to cool down. Seriously guys, I'm hungry, I don't have time for this nor do I want 3rd degree burns
google avatar

Yelp
I really appreciated that The Seoul was able to seat my party of 7 immediately on a Friday night, the restaurant was packed but luckily they had 1 table open! We ordered so much food and it was all delicious! I had the kimchijjigae (Kimchi soup) which I highly recommend, it was sooo flavorful and full of umami. It was almost creamy, I loved it! We also shared a Combo A as a table, and the meat was tender and yummy. Banchan (the side dishes that come with the Combo) was also a great plus. The value here is also really good! I think we fed 7 people for about $200, and there was also food leftover. Restaurant was a bit loud, but had a fun and busy atmosphere. I would definitely come back with another big group of friends.

Yelp
We love Korean BBQ and after our second visit have now decided that The Seoul is our favorite in metro Detroit. Clean restaurant. Good service. Fresh food. All make The Seoul a hit.

Sofia R.

Yelp
I love the Seoul. It's the best restaurant in Ann Arbor, please go here! I come at least 1x a month. My favorite dishes are the hot stone bibimbop, any of the cold noodles, and the steamed egg
google avatar

Shirley C.

Yelp
Delicious Korean barbeque! As a party of two, we ordered the rainbow ssam to share (would have gotten the crabby mushroom salad but it was sold out) and the combo A (kalbi, bulgogi, chicken, shrimp). The combo also came with fried dumplings and steamed egg along with the standard banchan and salad. All the meats were quality, and I was especially impressed by the chicken, which was surprisingly tender and flavorful (I usually avoid chicken for Korean barbeque because it tends to be dry and flavorless). For two people, the combo alone was enough to fill our stomachs, and I wouldn't necessarily recommend ordering anything else. The rainbow ssam was just okay, as I didn't like sauce since it contained wasabi (menu did not specify this), so I ended up using the dumpling sauce instead. I would have liked the waitstaff to be more attentive, as no one came by to check on us after our food was served, and we constantly had to flag down someone to refill our waters and banchan.
google avatar

Vincent D.

Yelp
A decent Korean BBQ place with reasonable portion sizes and prices! The restaurant is clean and spacious. The selection of meat were average, but the quality was there. I enjoyed the sides that were provided (potato salad and pumpkin were good!). Entrees such as the pancake and cold noodles were tasty. Staff were nice, but a little bit inattentive. I would come here again!
google avatar

Nibuz E.

Yelp
Solid food, solid atmosphere, solid staff! Went with the grill dinner for two and had a great experience filling up and cooking our own food right at the table! The flavor wasn't knock your socks off good, but it was all well seasoned and easy for any armature to take on! One "minor" issue I do have, is that (specifically regarding chicken) the lighting doesn't really allow you tell if your food is cooked through, so you kinda have to gamble with "overcooked or not cooked enough", but then again, maybe I'm just no table BBQ expert!
google avatar

Abby B.

Yelp
We had some time for dinner before catching a movie and The Seoul is right across from the theater. Sadly we didn't feel like we had time for a full grill experience, but even opting for their dinner options was wonderful. We got the bulgogi dinner combo and the tteokbokki appetizer and that was PLENTY of food for two people. Everything was flavorful and their staff was so welcoming and kind. We would definitely come back!
google avatar

Grace K.

Yelp
Loved my first visit here! The Seoul is a new Korean BBQ that just opened downtown. My boyfriend and I sat at a table right next to a large, open window that helped to ventilate the restaurant and the smoke that comes off of the grills. We had a nice view of the Michigan Theater and it was fun to people watch pedestrians passing by. While a little pricey, the food was very tasty and you get free refills of the side dishes (ban chan)! We got the Combo A Korean BBQ for two ($59) and soondubu ($14) to share. Just FYI, there is an 18% extra service charge on top of the food ordered here. The combo came with a salad and steamed egg. The restaurant and bathrooms were clean with really cute interior decor. Would definitely recommend a visit here!
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
The seafood soon dubu was a little disappointing because there was so little seafood- I counted maybe two mussels and not much else. The rice and side dishes were all generously doled out, but we ended up ordering some popcorn chicken to add to the jjigaes. The kimchi jjigae was also very ordinary, not super special and lacked pork - generally, there was a lack of substance in the stews
google avatar

Leah Z.

Yelp
favorite go to restaurant for some korean food in ann arbor! the crazy rice and popcorn chicken are very flavorful. the tteokbokki is very creamy and has the perfect amount of spice. and the steamed egg is the best i've ever had! the workers are also very polite.
google avatar

Jimin H.

Yelp
Food was good and service was nice! I really liked the haemulpajeon and the nengmyeon! I also liked the steamed egg that came with the meat!

Yelp
We came here on a Friday night at the peak of their dinner rush, so it was very packed and noisy. It took some time before we were finally seated. We ordered seafood soondubu jjigae, jjajangmyun, and tangsooyook. They arrived faster than the time it took to be seated. The soondubu jjigae was good. The tangsooyook, following a tradition of restaurants in this country adding weird things to it, had onions, seaweed chunks, and bell peppers (yuck). I don't get why places do this with tangsooyook. It's like taking a cheeseburger and deciding it needs more, so you stick a toy truck under the bun. It didn't taste bad, but also had no crispiness. The jjajangmyun here is good. Not as good as what I've had in Seoul or Fort Lee, but much better than anything in Chicago. They were able to make a sauce that stuck well to the noodles and had flavor to it. Well done, the Seoul. If it (sauce) were just a bit more thick, it'd make it better. Another issue we had is they mixed up our table with the one next to us twice - once for giving the food to (and getting very confused about it for some reason), and once for which bill was received, only an issue cause I had them charge my card before seeing they'd done the wrong one. They were pretty busy so I'll give that a pass. I don't care for BBQ but I'd try their other dishes if I were back in the area.
google avatar

Cliff L.

Yelp
The food is fine - standard Korean. Not bad, not great. The service is very bad. Untrained, rude, unhelpful - nothing to recommend them.
google avatar

Brooke B.

Yelp
We love The Seoul and Seoul Garden (same ownership). Their food is consistently delicious and it's a lot easier to get in here than it is at Tomukun. And overall, it's less expensive and the service is great. They're very attentive and we love the Korean BBQ experience. We usually end up at Seoul Garden to avoid the chaos of downtown but we always enjoy eating here.
google avatar

Wonsick O.

Yelp
Barbecue here is amazing. I especially enjoyed combo menus with steamed egg with my friends. Though, taste is really good, their price is bit expensive. So I recommend going The Seoul on special day. Also, they don't sell alcohol compared to their rivalry Tomokun Korean restaurant. It would have been better if they sold alcohol. Overall, it was still a pleasure to eat in the restaurant.
google avatar

Zoë T.

Yelp
The food was an 8/10 and the waitress was really sweet! The portions for lunch at least are really big I was really full. They give you little appetizers at the beginning as well that were really yummy my favorite was the fish cakes. I got the jajangmyeon and it was really delicious 8/10 haven't found many places that serve it and I really enjoyed it. My friend got the chicken bbq bento box and enjoyed it as well 7/10. The popcorn chicken was the STARRRR it was so good some of the best chicken in Ann Arbor in my opinion.

Lisa B.

Yelp
Seoul Bento box was excellent!! Flavors were unique. Great value! Perfect portions. Ordered carry out and it was ready for pickup in ten minutes.
google avatar

Sagnik R.

Yelp
Ann Arbor is a dead city during the winter break, we were lucky to find a place that was open at 8:30 and was willing to sit us. We had zero expectations - but the food was pretty great. We had the bulgogi bibimbap, the seafood soup noodles (I forget the name), and popcorn chicken. The portions were generous, the food tasted great (TBH the egg for bibimbap could have been better, but I'm nitpicking now), and the sides were pretty amazing. Can't wait to go back and try more, especially the BBQ options.

Laura S.

Yelp
I'm updating my review because the restaurant is not consistent with how they serve the food. Every time I went back, they reduced the amount of meat, side dishes of the bbq. In fact, they don't even serve you rice if you don't ask for it when ordering bbq. The last time I went, ordered their 4-5 ppl $99 meat meal, it comes with four different types, one of them came with small 5 pieces of meat, one type was steak but was literally inedible, when we asked about it, the owner told us if we don't like it we can order something else. It felt like the restaurant opened tried to impress the customers then just cheap out on the food and service.
google avatar

Casey W.

Yelp
I'd say it's pretty good with big portions but not as good as Tomukun down a few blocks if I had to pick one! Took a while for the server to get to us too but it might've been because they were busy.
google avatar

Jill M.

Yelp
The food was fantastic! Recommend Bbq! Expect a little wait during the dinner hour. Come hungry!!! Space is limited.
google avatar

Eliana S.

Yelp
We got combo A for KBBQ and some japchae on the side. Everything we got from the meat to the banchan was delicious. The staff was very attentive as well.
google avatar

Vivien P.

Yelp
Just tried this new restaurant for lunch! I love the authentic noodle and soup dishes, which is usually not highlighted, it is usually the meat dishes. I think we have to come back in the evening. The meat that came in the lunch combo was ok. But looking at the other reviews of the dinner grill meats, they look amazing. So, must come back for dinner.

Isobel R.

Yelp
I wanted to go to flavor town but they lost my ticket. The flood was bland. The best thing we had was the cheese and corn which I could have made myself in the microwave. The customer service was mid as well.
google avatar

Melina D.

Yelp
Very authentic Korean food in my opinion! Get set A and a few other dishes to complete the meal! The bibimguksu was fresh and the hamuel pajeon actually was seafood instead of just shrimp! The Korean bqq was amazing!
google avatar

LaVonte H.

Yelp
The first thing I noticed when I walked into the restaurant was the unwelcoming staff. The music in the space was louder than many Korean restaurants I've been to but that's not that big of a deal. I was disappointed to be coldly greeted and seated. I placed my order after a while and found that items on the menu were missing. No worries, that's the world that we live in. The service was extremely slow for it to be after the lunch rush. The food as a whole was ok but lacked depth of flavor and nuance. I came here because the restaurant was so highly rated... I'm not quite sure how... but here we are.
