The Sevens Ale House

I have been to The Sevens several times, and it is always a solid experience. This is a true neighborhood bar in Beacon Hill with real local flavor. The atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious, with classic rock playing in the background on most of my visits. It is a great place to watch a game without the noise and chaos of a bigger sports bar. I have caught the Red Sox, NFL games, and other sports here. The energy is just right. I have had both the French Dip sandwich and the BLT, and both were good. Nothing fancy, just satisfying, straightforward pub food. The beer list is decent for a small place, with a good mix of local and craft options. They serve beer and wine only. The bar staff has always been friendly and welcoming. Seating is limited, and it can get a little tight, but that is part of the charm. It is the kind of place where regulars and newcomers feel equally at home. The Sevens is dependable, casual, and worth a visit if you are in Beacon Hill looking for a laid-back place to relax, grab a drink, and enjoy some local character.

This is definitely a second choice place when the place you really want to go to is too crowded. They don't serve burgers or cocktails, the food is mid and the beer is not cold. The owner or manager there is definitely a nice guy but that doesn't make up for the grub

Great bar on a wonderful street in Boston Overall a very good experience the staff worked hard and perhaps of their work load the service at least once was not warranting a higher mark. The female lead could engage more however as stated she was probably feeling fatigue ( we did note she may do a ten / twelve hour shift) The atmosphere every night was electric and had a mass diversity in clientele We will definitely return and I believe with more support the team will be brilliant Slight downside was the need as in many US establishments to entertain a tip We ended our tips on the last two occasions as we believed we had spent the right amount of fare including the taxes Overall a must for anyone coming to Boston BTW Cheers bar is around the corner just a five minute walk 😺👍

Go for: One of the few truly traditional Boston pub experiences remaining. Avoid if: You're an elitist in any way. Something surprising: This place opened in 1933. It was one of Harpoon Brewery's first accounts in 1987, and Harpoon brews a beer specifically for the Sevens based on their shared history. Reservation needed? Not sure they even take them. Overall Experience: 4/5. There are plenty of places with a longer beer list or more refined food, but they don't have the history and authenticity you'll find here. Worth the visit. This was a fun and great place to stop in!! It would have gotten a full 5 for atmosphere, but some pesky fruit flies kept getting in my beer (and I don’t blame the bar for that). Service was phenomenal, and the dog of the day (chili cheese dog) was perfect!!!! Highly recommend and would definitely go back!!

This tiny bar is nestled between shops in Beacon Hill. Totally authentic pub vibe, I got the feeling that this is where locals go for drinks. We took a break here from our sight seeing to have a beer and a bathroom and discovered a dart board at the back to while away some time. It was such a lovely escape. The bar tender ended up comping my ice tea because she briefly forgot what I ordered, though she was extremely nice about it. Definitely worth a stop!

I visited this place on a Sunday at noon, and while it was completely empty, the service was surprisingly poor. We ordered food and drinks, but our waitress wasn’t very attentive. Not only did she forget one of our plates, but she also seemed to have a bad attitude throughout, which made the experience less enjoyable. We even had to ask several times just to get a beer. The food itself was okay—nothing memorable, some of the plates were cold but it wasn’t bad either. Pricing was pretty average compared to similar restaurants in the area, but given the service, it didn’t feel worth it. Overall, it’s not a spot I’d rush back to.

We made a stop in here looking for somewhere to have a toast after my daughter's wedding. Lily and Carlos were so welcoming and set things up for us for the day of the wedding. The girls working that day took such amazing care of us. If you're ever in Boston be sure to visit this little, off the beaten path place! It's a great place to hang out, have a bite and a visit.

Beacon hill home town bar. Vibes are perfect. Boston aesthetic on crack. We love this place

Great little historic pub! They have a daily hot dog special. We were there on Thursday and shared a Chicago Dog and Cape Cod chips. The hot dog was really good and was just the right amount for a shared snack. We sat at the bar and had good service.

Sevens Ale House really does feel like you've been transported to a whole different place. The dark wood, the juke box, the menu written in chalk - all of that really created the vibe. They have a pretty extensive beer list which we obviously had to explore. People were right about there not being a lot of food options but we got some appetizers and they were really good! I personally recommend the pretzel bites. As for the service, staff were very attentive but I did feel some pressure to hurry up and leave, which was odd seeing as how we were in place that felt like you could hang in. But this honestly won't stop me from coming back hahahaha I liked how funky the place so you'll find me here again!

This has become a trash bar. I used to love this place, but the owners treat people like garbage. Once you lose the kindness factor, there's no reason to go to a small, dirty, dark bar that isn't a dive, isn't cheap, and isn't fun.

One of our favorite spots. Food is pretty decent and the drinks are fairly priced. Darts are always fun to play here too!

Pub with a real and authentic Boston vibe. Food and drink was delicious, and the menu variety was just right. Both staff and patrons were wicked friendly. Will definitely stop in again when I'm in the area next. Thanks again!

The Seven's on Charles St is the absolute best local bar around. Great sandwiches, great beer selection and run by a woman (yahoo). Jack Kiley has owned this bar for years and has recently turned it over to Jules (his daughter) to run. She has made some changes and has brought it back to life. If you are in the area, pop in to say hello and have a great sandwich made by Carlos. Heres to many more years to the Seven's

The Sevens is a staple in the neighborhood, and brings together people of all ages and backgrounds, for one common goal: to congregate. John M. and Kenny are the kindest souls and sweetest friends, (well... as sweet as you can get in Boston). As long as they are around, The Sevens will never be empty and will never die.

One of my favorite small neighborhood pub when am in the west beacon hill/Charles street area. Walk in the commons, say hi to the ducklings and then walk up here for a few beer. Big no to cheers though. Nice quaint place where there's always a place to sit down. Love the decor and almost has a divey feel to it. Haven't tried the food yet although doesn't look like a place where you'll go to grab a bite.

Finely a bar with a few ciders to choose from. Cool locals bar vibe. Great walking neighborhood.

Despite a nice atmosphere and kind female waitress, older bartender came to our table of four girls and asked if we wanted him to put on lesbian porn, asked if we had "daddy issues" and made sexist remarks when we asked to put on a basketball game. We were made very uncomfortable and have no intention of returning.

Came here at around 4 on a Saturday. We were able to get a table but some people were standing as well. We didn't get food, just beers. I think there was only one server working for a packed place. Seemed like she was quite busy, but was able to handle the load. Beers were good, would be interested in trying to food next time.

Had a quick and easy lunch here - friendly place with one harried waitress (Julianne) managing with the bar tender - and she did a great job. Kept her cool and was friendly. We had the knockwurst plate and the chili. Both were very good. Knockwurst was salty and went perfectly with the sauerkraut and potato salad. Chili was filling and delicious. Beer was good, too. Reasonable prices. Great stop for lunch.

for lunch my party had the pastrami sandwich, french dip, greek wrap and clam chowder, and got a great IPA recommendation from our bartender. great service, super yummy food, obviously a favorite local spot. will definitely be back if i ever come back to visit boston. came back the next day and got a tuna melt, caesar salad, chicken wrap, and chili dog, all very very good

This is a dive bar which isn't a bad thing. They had about 30 beers and ciders and most likely house wine.

Stopper by after a long walk through Boston! Had the daily dog witch that day was the Cubano. Great food, great people.

Horrible experience. Stop by at about 1030 on a Tueaday night for a drink and a bite to eat. We were greeted at the door and asked if we knew what we wanted. We then asked for a menu, and the bartender said he would check on us. 15 minutes later, we had to approach the barback to order, and no food was available. What a waste of time. Had a drink got the check and not even a thank you. Not coming back ever.

Me and my roommates are regulars here and we absolutely LOVE this place. Special shoutout to Alfonso and Paul, both amazing people who make sure we always have a great time. The dogs of the day are also bomb, especially the Reuben dog. We have also enjoyed playing darts and queuing songs in the nonjudgemental environment. 10/10 would recommend!

We were in town for a short visit when a random downpour hit. My husband and I were looking for a pub/bar that we could walk to quickly to get out of the rain. We found The Sevens Ale House. It was initially a bit busy when we walked in, but we think a lot of other patrons were doing something similar to us, but after a few minutes, we were able to find seats at the bar. I loved everything about Ken and John. They were simply friendly and upbeat. They kept us laughing from the start of our stay to the end of our stay. After we paid our bill, we even got escorted out and given shirts as a thank you. I wish we had had more time to go back and visit again, but we were short on it. We really wanted to hit up The Sevens again before we headed home. If you're around, please check out The Sevens. It reminded me our bars at home, but with an extra special touch due to Ken and John. We will definitely visit again when we fly back to Boston. Cheers to you, Ken and John!

What great place to hang out and have a pint. Great atmosphere and the food was delicious. Pretzel bites were to die for. The negative thing is the parking situation in and around Beacon Hill. It's terrible.

Friendly, cheap, great atmosphere. Pretty busy on a Sunday afternoon. Food is good, but the atmosphere is probably what brings people back.

Sweet place!! Casual atmosphere with great bar food and outstanding beer list. The neighbor hotdog of the day, I would highly recommend!

This was an okay place but I probably wouldn't go again. Only beer and wine in the menu no mixed drinks. The food wasn't anything to write home about and neither were the drinks. For what you got the price was pretty high and with only one server it took a while to order and get everything.

Great dive bar with good prices. Downside is that the service is really lacking. It's a shame since Boston really needs more options of this ilk- you know, just without the terrible service.

We stopped here for a drink before heading to dinner down the street so I can't speak to the food. The ambiance was fun and lively...had to wiggle in to order a drink at the bar. It felt cozy and very "Boston."

Awesome local pub with great staff, atmosphere/attitude and bar food. Grab a brew, a knockwurst or some chili and you're in for a great late afternoon.

Went here last night - be carful of the female bartender on Sat and make sure you check the price of the drinks you pay for. 1 alagash and one glass of perseco - that will be 23.00 dollars sir. hmmmm , I thought this was like a neighborhood pub type of place not the Four Season.... There is no way there would be so many young college aged kids in this place if that was right - I get so discouraged when I get ripped off. Plus being in the service industry myself in Boston makes it feel that much worse

What a great experience at Seven's the bartender John was incredibly friendly and welcoming even for us out of towners. The food was good and John made sure our every need was attended to. Also he was super funny and great to chat with. 5 stars! 4 thumbs up!

Great spot to stop in for a quick bite or drink. The Buffalo tenders were delicious. Lots of drink options as well. Wish this place sold fries though. Friendly staff

Very cool neighborhood bar with an authentic, dive bar chic in a cool way , and diverse crowd. One of my favorite places in Boston. It's in Beacon hill.

I really wanted to like this place. It's very cute and we stopped in for a beer and were looking forward to eating lunch here. Unfortunately, no one ever came to give us menus, to ask us if we wanted anything, and when I got up and went to the bar, I was ignored. Like, ***straight up ignored*** for a good four minutes. And there were only about 10 other people in the place (inside and out) and 3 people behind the bar that I stood in front of. They were not helping any customers, but rather chatting it up with a guy who came in and who they obviously were friends with. I finally called out to a younger guy "How do I order a beer here?" and he gave me a bizarre answer but finally let me buy one. Yep -- I say "let." Lucky me! The food may be good, but I wouldn't know. The service here is worse than poor and honestly I wonder if it's deliberate --- they may only be nice to locals. That's fine. We went straight over and dropped a sh*t ton of money at Mamma Maria in North End where they actually appreciate their customers.

Here are the PRO's: Cute Irish bar, good bar food and they have darts! There is only one con but it was a big one... the girl that waited on us was very rude. She seemed annoyed that we came in at all. We both felt like we were putting her out if we asked for anything which was made us both feel awkward... but if you like small Irish bars I recommend! Just sit at the bar instead of a table.

We were looking for a classic pub and we found it! From the moment we stepped in this place, we felt right at home...we got a couple beers and a cup of Calm chowder to warm up a bit. Service was friendly and quick - would love to come back for a few more!

This pub was exactly what I was looking for. It may be a bit casual for some people, but it felt genuine, local, and friendly. The staff joked with regulars, made good drink recommendations, and it was all very reasonably priced. Next time I visit Boston I will be sure to stop back here, and enjoy the feeling that only a neighborhood pub can offer.

Absolutely horrendous service. We had a decent size group come in after work and were ready to throw down a few hundred dollars in drinks and food. The bartender/waiter guy (old, tall, bald guy) was extremely rude and off putting. When asked for menus he threw a pile at us, when he came by to ask for drink orders he didn't even give us a second to respond and walked away saying we weren't ready. They made us feel so unwelcome that we simply left.

My bestie and I stopped in for drinks. Service was mediocre. Guy was nice enough just slow to get to us, return, and come back. It was the middle of the day and we just wanted to have a few beverages. Left disappointed in the service. Main bartender was more interested in talking to a buddy about a party he was wanting to throw them customer service for paying customers at the facility. I gave it 2 stars because the interior was nice, historic building w a lot of character.

Dropped in on the way to the Commons and hit the busy Saturday crowd. Found a small end table with a cooler and jacket but no one around so we grabbed it. Had a great Reuben and a great juicy burger, which all came surprisingly fast with the packed crowd. The draft beers and bar service were fast and fresh. The table service was good but slow, understandable on Saturday afternoon.

Best BLT I've had in Boston! Coleslaw was a train wreck of odd taste. Service is pleasant, not going to be my best friends (those who want super positivity - don't go to a Boston bar) Beer selection is good enough to try more than one while you sit on the comfy, worn hardwood benches.

Refused me service and claimed that "serving food" meant that service dogs were not allowed indoors. This was disappointing, although I can see how a bartender doesn't understand the existing regulatory structure.

We stopped in here on Labor Day weekend. What a great place. John, the owner took care of us. Real nice guy. The beer was cold and a great place to people watch. I highly recommend it. We really enjoyed our time there.

We tried to give it a chance, but the waiter was extremely rude and disrespectful. Purposefully ignored us when we asked for water . Would not recommend.

Skip Cheers and go where all the locals go. And the food.. well its just delicious. Order the sevens chicken sandwich and have a beer. Great wines by the glass or bottle. Im in sevens heaven

First time in Boston, stumbled upon Sevens. Phenomenal clam chowder, welcoming staff, homey feel. If I'm ever in town I'd definitely pop into sevens for another Reuben and clam chowder. Only reason for 4 stars not 5, slower service than appreciated.

Rude server. Yells at customers for asking him to clear a table. Was not us, still walked out.

I am a regular at this establishment. Being a transplant from Miami, I absolutely love the old decor of the pub and the fact that it is walking distance from where I live. Paul, Johnny, Bob, and Ben all keep the beer flowing as well as the conversation, which is why I wanted to take my girlfriend and a good friend of mine there yesterday. Since it was a busy Saturday, we waited at the bar for a table to open up and took a seat about an hour after being there. This is where everything got bad real quick: We closed our tab and sat at the table, thinking we would be helped by the server I saw walk passed me about a hundred times (as well as rudely bump into me a thousand times without apologizing once) but, after about 45 minutes of sitting patiently, I noticed the server (now I know their name is Carry, Carrie, or Kerry, who cares) was only walking up and down the narrow bar in order to get to the front door to leave and smoke cigarettes. I counted about 5 times within the 2 hours I was there, and these were not quick cigarettes, usually a really nice session. In order to paint even more of a portrait of the amazing service we received, our favorite server (Carry, -arrie, -erry) at one point came up to our table (the first time they interacted with us) with two cold Guinness, asking if they were for us. You know you're not good at your job when your customers have to tell you to turn around and serve it to the couple that has been drinking the same beer all night in the corner of the restaurant. Of course, our server wouldn't know that because as they were outside puffing on tar sticks and making sure their shirt underneath their shirt was still cuffed properly, the bartenders had to get up from their post and do the servers job for them. Last but not least, Carry-arrie-erry, came to our table for the first and only time, asking "are you waiting on me for anything?" not "can I help you? Sorry I haven't been around" not "Do you need a refill?" which was a bad start. I bit my tongue and looked at my beer to see if I needed a refill and as I opened my mouth, I was interrupted and asked if I had a tab open at the bar, to which I said "well yes" to which they turned around and walked away. THE FUNNY THING IS I HAD TO REOPEN MY TAB BECAUSE I HAD NOT BEEN GREETED BY MY SERVER FOR OVER AN HOUR. I hope this wonderful server is reading this so they learn a lesson to treat every customer with the same amount of respect. I own two bars in one of the most popular areas in Miami, as well as an English degree, which makes me excellent at writing reviews for restaurants. If you do not want to treat people with an open heart in the hospitality industry (especially if they have done absolutely nothing to warrant disrespect, as we have all experienced rude customers before) then just don't work in hospitality. You are losing the bar money and doing nothing to help your own personal growth. Again, I love Sevens because it is my local pub, but it makes it near-impossible to go back on a busy night like that if all I'm going to get is a metaphorical face full of tobacco scented spit from my server and treated like a criminal for no reason. Quit smoking will ya.
