27 Best Things to Do in London

"Western Europe's tallest building at 309.6 metres, or 1,016 feet, high, The Shard houses London's first Shangri-la hotel, private apartments, offices and three high-end restaurants—Aqua Shard, Hutong and Oblix. All good reasons to visit of course but arguably the main one is the viewing gallery aka The View. Located on floors 68-72 and 244 meters above London, you have an unobstructed 360-degree, 40-mile view across the city." - Ramsay Short, Sonya Barber

"Renzo Piano’s Shard has divided opinion with its 309 meters (1,000 feet) of spiky glass construction and jagged top. But there’s no denying its sensational views. Access them by booking a meal at contemporary-British restaurant Aqua on the 41st floor, or head up to the viewing platform on the 68th floor for a fascinating bird’s-eye glimpse over the train lines threading out from London Bridge station across the river and into the city beyond."

The Shard is definitely one of the most impressive buildings I’ve seen in London. It’s hard to miss—it’s tall, sharp, and really stands out against the skyline. I went up to the viewing platform, The View from The Shard, and the views were honestly incredible. You can see the whole city from up there—Tower Bridge, the Thames, St Paul’s, everything. If the weather’s clear, you can see for miles. That said, I did find the ticket price a bit on the expensive side (around £25–£30), so it’s not something I’d do regularly. But if you’re visiting London for the first time or want to treat yourself, it’s worth it for the views alone. It feels calm and spacious at the top, and they let you take your time. There are also a few restaurants and bars inside the Shard. I didn’t eat there, but the setting looked lovely—great for a special occasion. Even if you don’t go up, just seeing the Shard from the outside, especially at sunset when the glass reflects the light, is quite something. Overall, it’s a modern landmark that gives you a real sense of how big and beautiful London is.

Google
I was genuinely impressed by this incredible building. The view from the top is breathtaking you get a full panoramic view of London, and it really gives you a whole new perspective on the city. Watching the sun set from up there was truly magical. The architecture itself is amazing, both modern and elegant. I also loved how peaceful and calm the atmosphere was, even with other visitors around. Everything was well organized, from the entrance to the top-floor viewing platform. If you’re visiting London, The Shard is a must-see. Whether you’re into photography, architecture, or just want to enjoy one of the best views in Europe this place is worth it. I absolutely loved it and would go again!

Google
There is a very beautiful view of both view floors of the Shard all the way around. I recommend reserving the lateat tickets to be able to see everything in the daylight and when the sun goes down and all the city lights go on. The London Tower Bridge is beautiful lit up from above. There are also drinks and snacks sold at the top.

This building was designed by one of my favorite architects: Renzo Piano. The structure is absolutely stunning from the outside, and the rooftop offers a spectacular view of the entire city of London. I highly recommend booking your visit in advance! You won’t regret it!

Google
The View from The Shard is nothing short of breathtaking and deserves a full five stars. Ascending to such heights offers an unparalleled panoramic perspective of London that truly takes your breath away. From iconic landmarks like the Tower of London and St. Paul's Cathedral to the sprawling cityscape stretching out towards the horizon, the 360-degree vistas are simply spectacular. Seeing London laid out beneath you like a living map is an unforgettable experience. The sheer scale and detail you can observe are astounding, offering a completely new appreciation for the city's layout and grandeur. Whether it's a sunny day or a crisp evening, the views are consistently captivating. The entire process, from entry to the ascent in the high-speed lifts, is remarkably smooth and well-organized. The staff are friendly and helpful, ensuring a pleasant and efficient visit. Visit on a Weekday: To avoid the largest crowds and enjoy a more relaxed experience, aim for a weekday visit if your schedule allows. Book Your Tickets in Advance: Save time and often money by purchasing your tickets online ahead of your visit. This guarantees your entry and can help you skip potential queues, especially during peak times. Go on a nice, sunny day.

Had a lovely evening out at the shard on 9th July. This was a birthday gift for me and my partner from our son. We had a glass of champagne 🥂 included with our voucher. When we arrived the staff were really friendly and directed us to where we needed to go. We had our photos taken before we went into the lift that took us to the 32nd floor then walked round to the next lift that took us to the floor 68 and 69, the views were amazing, we spent some time on this floor before walking up to the open air sky view on 72. Once our experience was over we took the lift back down to the exit where we purchased our photos and bought an ornament of the shard. We had an amazing time and I would recommend to anyone who is visiting London!! 😀

Google
We pre booked tickets for the 2:15pm time slot and took the option of Champagne on arrival. A pretty quick process through the photo booth and into the high speed lifts. Staff were excellent except one (more about that later). Champagne was Moet 👍and then we were free to roam. It wasn’t too crowded and we got great shots of the view and appreciated the perspective from 246m above London. We ordered a second drink from an incredibly excellent server and were told to sit in the reserved area to wait for our beverage. While waiting, ‘old mate’ VIP host appeared horrified that we weren’t VIPs and rudely asked us to move. No problem, just could have used better manners. Anyhow, worth the time, the money and the experience. An excellent bar too. A must do!

Google
We enjoyed a few bites at GŌNG. The food was good but it definitely is on the more expensive side. Nevertheless we enjoyed the evening and think of this as an experience. You will find the perfect combination of luxury and comfort in any of the shard restaurants. I would definitely recommend a visit.

Yelp
Since it was not raining we decided to go here. The shard provides the highest view of London. I heard the view here are better than the ones at the Sky Garden. At the top you get 360 degree views of London. You can also purchase some refreshments too while looking at the views. They have coffee, cocktails and also ice cream.

Yelp
It was fine. I was expecting a little 'more' but really you're paying an entrance fee to get into an overpriced bar on a very high floor, lol. The day I went was super cloudy (which is not the fault of the Shard, and is to be expected in London, but did put a damper on the experience). The entrance is well organized, though I was a little confused because I had the London Pass and thought that was my entry, but I had to go get a ticket-staff was friendly and helpful here. Of course they make you pose for the souvenir photos you can pay for at the end-I wasn't overly impressed with mine. Once you take the elevators up (yes, you have to take two elevators due to the shape of the building) it opens up onto a bar that goes all the way around the building. There are a few high-top tables and some standing tables/counters along the wall. On a Friday evening those were all packed. They did have some servers walking around, but I had better luck just walking up to the bar. I did get one of their signature drinks but it was messy (it was spun sugar to mimic clouds, and then you poured champagne over it). If you take the stairs up a couple more flights, you can go to a smaller, quieter area that open at the top. Once I found that, it was much nicer because I actually had room to take pictures (there are no tables up there). It was kind of cool that it was open at the top, too (I was there in late summer so it was still warm out). Overall, it was a neat experience, but not for the price. I'm glad I did it as part of the London Pass, as I would have been less than happy to have paid for it outright. If you're looking for a birds-eye view, the London Eye or the Tower Bridge were much more impactful to me (and cheaper).

Yelp
I visited the View from The Shard on 11 May 2024, with my parents and my wife. I suffer from haemophilia-A and severe arthritis in my joints, so I carry a portable foldable stool with me to sit when the pain becomes unbearable. During our visit, I sat in a corner for about 5 minutes when a guard named Naresh Budha approached me. He told me that sitting was not allowed. I explained my medical condition to him, but instead of showing empathy, he responded with loudness, anger, and doubt, asking if I had a physically-disabled card, which I did not. Despite no other visitors being bothered by my sitting, and many holding spots for long periods to shoot reels and TikToks, Mr Budha made me move. His rude and unempathetic attitude added to my distress. As someone who already endures significant suffering due to my condition, I found this treatment utterly unacceptable. I urge The Shard management to reconsider employing such unempathetic staff members and take necessary actions to ensure no other visitor has to endure such treatment.

Yelp
Tallest building in Western Europe but cloudy today so view was nor as good as in a clear day. Not as tall as the Freedom Tower bit views pf Tower Bridge from the 80th floor was nice! Offering return ticket on a clearer day or if time allows....

Yelp
We got the Go-City Pass to go into The View from the Shard. The 360 degrees views of London were spectacular, especially on a clear day. We stayed near Hyde Park so we took the tube from the Circle Line to the JB Line toward the London Bridge. The Shard is right outside when you exit the tram station. Once they scanned your ticket(s), the Shard team will scan your belonging for security reasons. Then they will take your photos for purchase when you're ready to leave. After that, you will go up 2 elevators, one to the 30th floor and the other to the 69th floor. the elevator moves at the speed of light, you get from floor 1 to 30 in like 5 seconds. You can also walked an additional 3 flights of stairs to go up to the 72th floor. The Shard consists of a triple level indoor gallery on the 69th floor and a partially outdoor gallery on the 72nd floor. The shard also food and drinks to purchase on the 69th floor in case you wanted a bite. If you're on the 72th and you look at the building peak, you can get vertigo because it looks like the building is moving, which is pretty cool and scary! The 72th floor is very windy but the views were still amazing nonetheless. The building architecture is very modern. It looks like a spire sculpture with exposed beams and bracing. And it is all glass so from afar, it looks like a glass pyramid! I thought of views of London was amazing from up above since you can see every historical landmarks including Big Ben, London Bridge, London Eye, The Walkie Talkie to mention a few....

Yelp
We went on a cloudy day but there was decent visibility. Based on the time of year and the fact it was a Monday we didn't have any issues getting in; there wasn't a ton of folks. This might sound rediculous but definitely go to the bathroom up stairs there. There are private stalls with beautiful views! The drinks and snacks are extremely overpriced but it was nice to sit for a bit, enjoy a drink and then view. Since you paid to get up there you should enjoy the view. The only major negative is the folks trying to sell you the pictures at the end. I just wanted to look through them but the woman (sales person) would go away. For that they get 1 star but otherwise it's a nice experience. #london #viewfromtheshard #theshard #londontourist #londonviews #wonderlust #loveoftravel #londonpass

Yelp
If you purchased the London Pass to many of the sightseeing sites of the city, a visit to the Shard is also included. The skyscraper, standing 309.6 meters (1,016 ft for u'murricans) is named for the jagged edges of its design, as if it were a shattered piece of glass. It is a tapered, glass encased tower that looks like it is stabbing into the sky and is currently the tallest in the UK. Accessible from the London Bridge station of the Underground, we arrived to check into the visitors reception to ride the 2 elevators (with a transfer on floor 33) up to the observation deck. It was a fairly windy day with high altitude passing clouds that opened up occasional rays of sunshine, so we were able to get a good view of the city. The 2nd elevator opens up on the 68th floor to the fully enclosed observation deck that has a full 360° view of the city. There is also a cocktail & coffee bar, if you want to purchase refreshments. The area is a great venue to be rented out for cocktail parties with a baby grand piano at the NW corner. Down below, you can spot famous sites such as Big Ben, the London Eye, Tower Bridge, Tower of London and HMS Belfast on the River Thames. Other buildings are identified by the panoramic photos above each window face. I was looking for the Gherkin but it was obscured by the buildings in between, but we were able to spot the Battersea Station to the southwest by its chimneys. Make sure to bring a nice long telephoto lens for your camera or your phone camera has a good zoom ratio to get nice detailed shots. We even able to spot our lunch destination at the nearby Borough Market down below. Next, you can climb up the wraparound stairs up 4 more floors to the open air observation level. There is an auxiliary lift to go up there, but it is reserved for handicap use. On a chilly, windy day, we couldn't take more than a few minutes up there, grab some more pictures and head back down. When you're ready to take the elevator back down to earth level, you can check out your group photo taken when you entered and buy your souvenirs at the gift shop. I bought a sheet metal model of the Shard that I'll have to assemble to commemorate our visit.

Yelp
This is probably the best views of London you can get, better than Sky Garden. I loved the bathrooms with the overlooking views from the windows. One of the best bathrooms I have ever been to. Loved that this is higher than the restaurants at the Shard, which charges a minimum to dine.
google avatar

Tiffany D.

Yelp
This is the place to get the views. It is 1000x better than the London eye and it's cheaper. My kids even at ice cream at the top. So many photos. Go here instead of the eye.
google avatar

Yelp
Meh, it was just OK. Friendly staff and I especially enjoyed the tour guide who gave us the history of the Shard. However, the whole experience was underwhelming. I was in and out literally in 30 minutes. Tourist trap alert!
google avatar

Justin H.

Yelp
The Shard is the tallest building in the UK. It is supposed to look like a shard of broken glass. It's a beautiful structure that is very distinctive addition on the London skyline. It's totally worth paying to go to the top and checking out the city views. Although seeing a view is similar to other tall buildings, I enjoyed the aerial view of the Tower Bridge, Big Ben, the London Wheel, etc. Also, they had some nice "instagram-like" props like a wall of flowers, throne, and phone booth. They also give every visitor some free digital pictures of the visit. Good quick attraction with light crowds. Recommended.
google avatar

Monica G.

Yelp
I booked a ticket 4 months in advance. I showed up on the day and they said that it's closed. It was only 2pm! They wouldn't honor anyone's ticket and turned everyone away.
google avatar

Ebony L.

Yelp
I timed my visit for sunset and got lucky; it was raining all day and cleared up for the evening. There is limited seating so be aware. The staff at the observation decks were super helpful. I believe someone named Marcus with glasses?? recommended we go to Bob Bob's for Beef Welly after and it was a stellar choice. I don't recommend the digital photo package as it's very cheesy. There is a bar on both the upper and lower decks and the pricing was on par with my UK experience.

Yelp
The Shard is amazing! On a clear day you can see the outskirts of London too. Be sure to book your reservation early and get there on time. The elevator is closed but one has a glass view at the top. Their is a restaurant and bars at the top with delicious drinks. Loved their drinks. I forgot to take a picture of mine but the name was Guava Mane... it was shaken and fantastic. There were three selfie walls and countless couches and seats to rest. Two levels of views; on the 68th floor it closed from the outside elements, while the 72nd floor is open to wind and everything. They even had fake snow. Recommend the trip up for the whole family.
google avatar

Wendy C.

Yelp
The Shard provides guests with the highest views from London. It's similar to the Vanderbilt in NYC except that it lacks the activities from the Vanderbuilt. The drinks were great. Buy the fast pass to avoid crowd.
google avatar

Ryan A.

Yelp
Meh is basically where I am at with The Shard sadly. First and foremost, the views are spectacular, but it's a weird setup. Getting to The Shard is easy, but you are walking into a business center with an attraction of course. Price point is pretty high just for a view, but still cheaper than The Eye somehow. You are limited on time unless you stop for a drink or food at the top, which is like any other sky-high bar/restaurant, well overpriced. While you can get your tickets ahead of time, it's quite silly as the weather shifts periodically in London and it may be a miserable day such as the one when I attended. Make sure to bring a jacket as well during the cold months as you are exposed to the weather, which I did not know ahead of time (Figured it was all indoors). So outside of all of that, while it's still worth it in my opinion, it really felt a tad too lackluster to me.
google avatar

Bryan S.

Yelp
We were recently in London on our honeymoon and during our trip we did a VIP tour of the view from the Shard. We had the absolute pleasure of getting Michael M. as our tour guide. They really made the perfect choice with him, he was not only extremely knowledgable but also very personable. He explained everything in a way that was enjoyable and not boring at all. I would highly recommend the tour but i would request Michael if you want to make your tour great!!

Abhijeet P.

Yelp
The view is amazing. The cocktails are refreshing. Its one of the best view experiences. No one rushes you to get going. Even when there are a lot of folks, it does not feel crowded because of the multiple floors. My only ask would be put more areas for seating.
google avatar

Daniel C.

Yelp
This place is just fantastic. So clean to start with. Very friendly staff. The views are out of this world. So worth the walk to the 72nd floor.
google avatar

Latoya E.

Yelp
I am a sucker for the touristy activities when visiting new places and this one did not disappoint. If this is not your thing, be forewarned, there are crowds and wait times. It was pretty straightforward to get to from the underground rail and then a walk (we stopped at the Bagel Factory for brunch and coffee along the way...also worth it!). Absolutely amazing views of all of London. We weren't in town long as this was a last-minute added stop, so getting this view made up for the sights we weren't able to get to this time. Santa even made an appearance :). We recommend visiting during your London adventure.

Zenith P.

Yelp
Lovely Views but quite pricy, would go during sunset. Make sure to book in advance!
google avatar

Kevin B.

Yelp
The Shard is certainly a London icon, and fantastic to behold (and use as a reference point) from all around the city. Going UP in the Shard is also a cool experience, though certainly with tourist-level prices. You can see incredibly far from the top, though in my opinion it's not worth the £30+ price of admission. Plus, the view is missing one important thing -- the Shard itself! Overall a nice experience, but certainly passable if you want to save some money. Try the free Sky Garden across the river instead?
google avatar

Tiffany S.

Yelp
One thing it is pretty, but the entire hotel smells like fish. The Wi-Fi doesn't work , the spa doesn't have a steam room and hands down the worst massage I have ever had in my entire life- the lady had lizard hands . ..they basically order massages off a smooth app with random people and charge doubt . Not worth the $500 plus a night and we paid $800 a night.
google avatar

Kimo B.

Yelp
Very nice view from the top here looking at London and it's vicinity. You can see for miles without any obstruction because The Shard is the tallest building in London currently.
google avatar

Daniel W.

Yelp
Great view, of course. Cool way to understand London's layout. Well run. Not crowded when I went at sunset (the best time to go, see day, sunset and nigh time lights). You can stay as long as you like They are both outdoor and indoor viewing floors. There are bars but no food. Architecture buffs will enjoy the unusual and beautiful building itself. Staff was almost friendly Pricey. $40 a person.
google avatar

Shayla B.

Yelp
The views are nice but the experience as a whole was a bit lackluster for me. The Shard is a fairly new building and currently holds the rank as London's tallest building. While the views are charming, I found it to be overcrowded and unexciting. First off all, expect to wait because the lines can get ridiculous. I'm sure if you come early in the morning, the wait won't be as bad. I went about 2 hours before closing and the line was still pretty long. The view from the Shard was included in my LondonPass, but the regular prices for the visits are insane. If I didn't have the LondonPass, I would not be paying those high ass prices. If you have a LondonPass, you'll have to stand in the same line as everyone else regardless. Once you make it to the ticket desk, they'll print you a paper ticket, and then you'll proceed to the security check. After that's done, you'll head up two different elevators (one stops and then they'll switch you to a different one). The Observation deck is located on the 68th floor, but they also have the sky deck which is located on the 72nd floor. I must have come on a good day because there was actually a SUNSET in London that evening! Unfortunately, I could barely see it because everyone and their mama was blocking the view. It gets waaay too crowded in there. The observation deck is all glass. I don't mind these kinds of observation decks, but I prefer the ones that have an outside area. It's hard to take pictures and sometimes to even really see out of the windows. Many of the windows were dirty with fingerprints and hand smudges. The interior is small with extremely limited seating. They have a bar on both floors, but the drinks are pricey. They actually gave me a coupon for a glass of champagne for £11. Still pricey, but I figure that I'd take the discount. The lady preparing the drinks at the bar told me that I could get unlimited drinks at that price. I did a double take and asked her if she was sure. In my mind, thought she was saying that I could get unlimited drinks for £11. But what she actually meant was that I could come back and get for each additional drink for £11. Maybe I just misheard her, but I thought that was kind of shady. She had already made the drinks, so I just coughed up the £22. I probably would have only gotten one if I had understood her correctly. But anyways, what I saw of the sunset was nice. The night time view is pretty too, but the horrible glare from the lights in the glass makes it less enjoyable. All in all, this was average for me. I've been to a few other observation decks, and this one just wasn't one of my favorites. The view from St. Paul's Cathedral was so much better. At least I can say that I did it, but it's a one and done for me.

Yelp
Excellent! Breathtaking Views! Customer Service was top notch! Each employee treated each guest like royalty to say the least. The Champaign was delicious along with the desserts. Michael M. Walked around dressed up and had a badge saying we could ask questions. He was gracious, patient and fun as he answered all of our questions! He was entertaining and full of knowledge! He was so engaging, humorous and was also a great listener. We shared we wanted to see Santa. When we went upstairs and we're about to miss Santa he came to find us to let us know where Santa was at! We had additional questions about London, the Shard building and more. What a great idea for this company to have Michael M walking around and making the experience even more memorable! Thank you to each and every employee who provided an experience we will Never forget!

Yelp
We arrived just after lunch on a Thursday in June and it took about 20 minutes of waiting before we were speeding up in the elevators. Fortunately it was a fairly clear day so we could easily see all the way to the horizon. There were lots of staff photographers wandering around happy to take our photo, and sell us copies. They also have green screen options taken in the lobby before going up... they were all kinds weird looking so we didn't bite. If you're on the London Pass, we asked about our free digital copy (as listed in the catalogue) and they said that's not a thing. But back to the sights. Amazing! I could have spent all afternoon hanging out. There's an open air park with imitation grass to sit on and eat ice cream cones... and just look out on the city from the 72nd floor. We didn't do it, but there's an upgrade option to come back in the evening for a discounted price, and I bet London is amazing to see lit up. Very easy to spot the London Tower, and Tower Bridge.

Heather S.

Yelp
We purchased tickets months ago as well as prepaid and were given quite a stern warning to stay in our time window. When we arrived (on time) IT WAS CLOSED FOR RENOVATIONS!!!! Clearly, a way could have been found in six months to notify us? When inquiring about perhaps just getting a drink, we were rebuffed and mocked (in the most British manner imaginable).

Yelp
Not going to front, the view from the Shard was pretty amazing. I personally would never pay £32 (!!!) to ride an elevator up 68 floors but it was included on our London Pass and also just a few blocks from our apartment. Know if you go that they're open pretty late most nights if you prefer a "city lights" view instead of a day view. You'll have to take 2 elevators and once there you'll be on the 68th floor. There are additional viewing areas on 69 & 72 but you have to walk up stairs to get to them so ADA access is pretty limited. The highest floor is also open on top. While you're up there, you can grab a drink from the overpriced bar (£14 Champagne flutes). My recommendation is to definitely use the toilet as the stalls have floor to ceiling windows. A loo with a view!

Yelp
Amazing view of all of London"s best! Parliament ,London Eye, Tower Bridge , Wembley Stadium and The Thames River. Enjoy a glass of Moët Chandon at the top with a picture perfect view ! Cheers!

Yelp
I highly recommend anybody to come up here! We booked tickets in advanced to save some money (we actually ended up saving 50% - purchased for 16 pounds but tickets were 32 pounds when we got there!). Such a great deal. We originally wanted to go on a Saturday night but the queue to get the physical tickets were 1.5 hour wait, which was a bit too long considering that wasn't even the wait to get up there so we decided to go another night. This was another plus... I love how flexible the tickets were because you can go any time and is not a set time which is hard for visitors like me. We ended up going on a Sunday night and there were absolutely NO LINES so we were able to go straight to security and up the two different elevators. The view from The Shard is unbelievable. I was able to pinpoint major landmarks and differentiate the city, which was super fun after visiting so many places. My favorite view was definitely the view of Tower Bridge.... it is such a beautiful landmark. It was quite empty up at The Shard, so I was able to sit down on the turf and enjoy the nice views. Very zen and a great way to end the trip. It was a great spot for me to reflect on the trip and reflect on life in general. It was very chilly though because it is out in the open, but if it was nicer weather, I am sure I would've been out there longer. I love visiting places like this where I had no intentions of going prior to this trip but end up loving it moreso than other places.

Yelp
Finally able to go up the Shard after walking by it for 2 days in a row to see major lines that had 45+ minutes wait. Came at around 11 am so there was no line to get into the building. Reached the open and closed air observatory level with 2 different elevators. The view from the top is absolutely breathtaking. You can really see all of London as the walls are entirely made out of windows so there's access to views on all sides. Bonus that it's located right next to the James river so you can see all the infamous bridges. We went on a slightly cloudy day but even then you are able to see so much of London. Honestly one of my favorite parts is watching the metro system - so impressed by London's public transportation. Definitely a must come if ever in London. I do have to say though that sunset would probably be the best time to come if you don't mind waiting because you get to see the beautiful views of the city in the daytime and the night lights. You can really spend either 20 minutes or 3 hours up there. Also make sure to go the bathrooms. I know, weird but even the bathrooms have a phenomenal view.

Yelp
I have been to a few observation decks in big cities before and I've got to say I was impressed with this one! There are two bars so you can have some drinks with your view. There is also a nice flower alter to take photos underneath. Be aware this is an open roof so it is very cold and windy at the top! You will need a warm jacket! Also if you purchase the London pass admission to the shard is included!

Yelp
Book in advance to avoid lines and save a few £! Awesome view, seem much better than the London Eye because it's a lot higher up (72nd floor I think). Really incredible, up close w/ the River Thames. Great view of the London Bridge and really easily accessible from the London Bridge tube station (directly above it.) I will say it's a bit pricey but I think it was worth it.

Yelp
As a tourist from Miami, I enjoyed this place. Although we (party of 3) asked for a spot right by the window when we made our reservation months in advanced, we didn't get our seat of choice to enjoy the view to the max. Aside from that, the service was good, food was delicious, and enjoyable ambiance.

Yelp
I came here with my partner on our first anniversary and I must say that it didn't live up to my expectations. If you're a tourist and are trying to get some great views of London, I'd rather recommend the London Eye. For what it's worth, the service was prompt and we didn't have any issues during our visit and actually had a pleasant time at the bar upstairs as well. Still wouldn't shell out ~70 odd pounds for 2 tickets just to get into a landmark

Yelp
Such a cool way to see London from above. You can really do spend some time on top of the Shard, since they have inviting seating areas and a bar that can serve you a drink to go with the views. Well worth going up.

Yelp
On our trips to London I always said to my partner we must go up there one day. I re4ceived a Christmas present of a champagne visit from her. Unfortunately, this was delayed due to the Covid19 pandemic and The Shards closure. I will say the staff at the booking office have been great in changing dates on a couple of occasions. Going through security was easy. Followed by photographs in front of the green screen for the background to be added. The trip up in the first lift followed by a further journey in the second was quick and smooth. Glad we decided for a daylight visit as, when we left it was sunset, the queues were long at the entrance. All those people wanting to see London at night. We were lucky, we had reservations for dinner in Oblix and would see it while we ate. When we arrived at the viewing platform we wondered where to get our champagne. There were no directions on where or how to convert our tickets to glasses of bubbly. We sat at a free table and this is where we found how it worked. Linda, came over and explained. My telephone number was taken and when a free table was available she would ring me. Maybe this should be explained on booking or on the ticket. I think , maybe, Covid19 was to blame. We wandered up to the next level. The views are spectacular, even for one that has lived in London for 75 years and seen so many changes. My phone rang and Linda showed us to a table. After a while the champers arrived. I wanted to order a cocktail as I don't drink champagne (really hits me LOL) but was told I couldn't as I had the champagne. I think, maybe, it was a language problem. I ordered through their app and QR on the table. We had a few more which, I think surprised the barman. He must have been used to people just having the one on their ticket. Cocktails were really good and real cocktails not the watered down variety. TIP try The Great Fire cocktail. Fire, it certainly has with the chilli flakes, and a kick. A nice few hours spent. Pics, taken at the start, are good and a memory. Bars are brilliant. Thanks Linda for your guidance. As I have said, directions should be written down to avoid confusion.

Yelp
If views are your thing, pay the 32 pounds to go to the viewing deck. Up there you will find multiple bars and ice cream. See up to 40 miles away. I loved being to look down onto the courtyard of the Tower of London and the Tower Bridge and even the London Eye in the distance. Apparently there's a way to go outside by taking the stairs after your elevator ride. I sadly did not know this and missed out. Thanks, other Yelper, Niki B. People have proposed up there, there are multiple locations to dine at at lower levels and you can even live at The Shard. What a pretty pence that would be.

Yelp
As the tallest building (by far) in London, you're guaranteed a great view. After seeing it from afar in the skyline for so many days, I was super excited to go in it and ride to the top. It's about 24 pounds (almost $30) to ride to the top (floor 68), which is super expensive considering a large amount of museums/attractions in London are free. Once at the top, we grabbed a beer and sat on the floor to enjoy the view. Being up that high made me slightly dizzy so we appreciated sitting on the floor (would be nice if there were benches or some type of cool chair to let you enjoy the view longer). READ THIS PART: We were about to head out when we noticed some stairs on the side of the room that allowed you to go up another floor. THIS WAS THE BEST PART. The Shard is open to the outside at the very top and we would have never gotten to this open, tallest point had we not noticed the stairs (no one told us and the elevator stopped before that). Be sure you get to the very tip-top!

Yelp
First off if views are your thing then this is an amazing experience. If not I don't know if paying £32 (around $40 for one person) to ride an elevator to the top floor of the tallest building in London (floor 72) is worth it. My boyfriend and I arrived around 7:30 pm back in May. We arrived around sunset which by the way totally recommend that time over all others ( in my opinion). We both love views and anything to do with scenery so for us this trip was worth the $80. Once you reach to floor 72 it opens up to only one side of the building which was a little disappointing, it would have been more amazing if it was a 360 view. There are also stairs on the right side leading to a bar on that floor as well. The other down side was there were no chairs or a bench to sit on while you are there. Other than that an amazing view of the Tower of London, Tower Bridge and City Hall. I would only recommend this to people that enjoy views and sight seeing because this one is quite pricey there are plenty of museums and attractions in London that don't cost an arm and a leg!

Yelp
I hear a lot of mixed reviews all the time about The Shard! But in my opinion, it's worth visiting and going up to the top. Yes, it is expensive. Yes, it is a risk on a cloudy day. But overall, the views from the top are just so incredible. What better way to spend a sunny or lightly cloudy afternoon than with a glass of perfectly chilled bubbly Rose? I mean maybe you have different gauges of happiness than I do, but this is what makes me smile. The Shard is London's highest view point observatory with beautiful 360 degree views of everything. I loved being able to see Tower Bridge from above, St Paul's from afar, it's just worth it! My advice is to buy the all inclusive ticket, it's the best bang for your buck! But it ahead and you get a discount as well. I paid 52 GBP as I bought it on the same day, but if you book in advance it's only 39 GBP. Agree, it's a bit steep of a price. But again, it's something that is just such a cool experience. They have a bar at the top so when you want to step back and sit with a glass of champers it's an option for you. if you buy the all inclusive, they give you a glass of Moet included :). Be sure to take a good camera and try to get there early. I went in January so the crowds were minimal, but I imagine in the summer time when the tourists are in full force it will be packed.

Yelp
This was also part of our London Pass. We stopped in around 4:30 and had no wait to get our LPs scanned for tickets. The line through security was short and we had no wait for both elevators. We climbed to the observation deck and the 360 views were fabulous. There was a limited bar and gelato on the deck. It is not enclosed so be prepared for the weather. We ordered ale and champagne on the enclosed observation deck. You can also get specialty coffees and sweet snacks. This was well worth the visit on the London Pass.

Yelp
Pretty amazing view. This was a very cool stop on the hop on hop off tour. It is a magnificent building with a really easy to access tour. Once through the easily managed security and lines, it's very well thought out. You are then sitting on top of London. The bar and bartenders are great and how can you not love a champagne at the top of London?! It's fantastic and worth the small price to do it.

Yelp
My Husband and i had a date up the shard last month. We used one of our GoCity passes on the explorer pass. SUPER easy to scan in and there was no line to wait in.

Yelp
Yes, it does look like a long shard of glass in person, which is what it pretty much looks like in pictures. With that said, for some reason every time it was within sight, I couldn't take my eyes off of it. The all glass exterior, with its pyramid shape, is definitely a one of a kind structure and worthy of your photo-taking time. It was stunning to look at, mainly because of its uniqueness, but somehow it oddly fit into the London backdrop with structures such as Tower Bridge, the London Gherkin and London Eye. We didn't get to step into The Shard, but we did walk by it and yes it's an actual building and there were offices, restaurants and even a hotel inside! It definitely made for a great photo op up close and from afar and there are many places to capture those photos in Central London.

Yelp
The Shard is a beautiful spot to see all of London. We made our way to the top and were fortunate that it was a clear day. We were able to get a panoramic view from the top. It was a little crowded but it moved fairly quickly in order to get a view. There is a bar and a little gelato shop up at top which was a nice touch. There is also a gift shop down below to commemorate your visit

Yelp
The Shard is the tallest building in the UK, completed in 2012 when it overtook One Canada Square it is in SE1, in Southwark and is basically underneath the recently refurbished London Bridge station. It has a whopping 72 habitable floors and 96 in total, perhaps the most interesting it is 95% owned by the Country, Qatar (It's a shame we can't use this to host a few 2022 World Cup games here!), with over 30 lifts it stands at over 1,000 feet tall. Although mainly used as offices now, this huge glass building can be seen throughout the city and perhaps is one of the unsung landmarks of the British capital, which sadly might not get the international fame and recognition of the London Eye, Big Ben and Buckingham Palace. You are able to go up to a high floor, albeit at a high price with "The Viewing at the Shard", which costs £32 for an adult, I really find this to be too expensive but most tourists would pay this because it's where you're going to get the best views of London, when I enquired about seeing The Shard there was an extremely pushy salesman, trying to force me to pay, even when I said "I'll come back", he continued to push it with no mercy for my bank balance. Even when I said I was going to get a drink first, he reminded me I could buy drinks up there when I paid him, you'd think he was on huge levels of commission! I later found out there is a slightly hidden lift which takes you up slightly to street level and a newer part of London Bridge Station, where you can see The Shard slightly more clearly and there is also an entrance to the offices up there. There is a small shopping arcade also close to the Shard with a Starbucks, which isn't really worth writing home about either sadly. The Shard is also close to Borough Market and Borough High Street, which perhaps are worth a browse around after viewing this stunning, modern building. The Shard is a stunning, modern and cool building, the tallest building in London and the whole of The United Kingdom, but the fact is it is ruined by overpriced tickets, a confusing layout to get in or get a better view, and pushy salesman. Also it remains a wasted opportunity there isn't a bar or restauraunt on a high floor open to the public without having to buy a viewing ticket first, this could be the perfect place to grab a beverage or light snacks such as Afternoon Tea, so it really is a wasted opportunity, especially considering many nearby coffee shops including Starbucks, have no or very little seating. Still a really cool place in the Borough, Southwark area of London which is becoming pretty cool and growing with the work going on there, and of course Borough Market. 3*
