How Seattle Cafes Are Catering to Remote Workers | Eater Seattle

"Tucked in a Second Avenue high-rise near the downtown waterfront, the Shop by Porter feels like the archetypal 'hip cafe' with stylish, minimalist furniture, lots of plants, and shelves displaying textiles and dinnerware for sale; the menu features grain bowls, sandwiches, and quiche and there are typically people camped at tables working on laptops or tablets. Walk past the counter and it shifts into a quasi-office, with a glass-walled conference room with wall-mounted screens, additional meeting rooms and a one-person office for private calls, and the ability to rent meeting spaces starting at $60 an hour. Porter pivoted this space from a living showroom into a hybrid cafe/retail/event venue in 2019, and it now hosts events on the ground floor and the building's 13th-floor roof deck (from hi-fi listening parties to talks), deliberately blending hospitality, food and beverage, and workspace to activate otherwise empty building square footage." - Harry Cheadle

The aesthetic is beautiful and calm, kind workers, great work spaces and they sell small business products that you can check out right as you walk in. They also hosted an amazing Women in Creative Industries - Netweaving event by Anna Hart and two weekly Wellness Wednesday (8AM&11AM) workshops upstairs at The Studio at 2+U. The workshops include guided yoga, healing breath work and a meditative sound bath with Raiza de Vera - highly recommended.💗

Google
Great coffee and greater atmosphere for a chill hangout or work session! It’s beautiful inside with a bauhaus-inspired interior design. I appreciate the open space in general, and everyone is free to use it how they see fit! Would go here again to chill and have a little moment to myself.

Google
Found my new go-to cafe in Seattle. First off, the cafe itself is so beautiful. I love that there is a variety of seating arrangements that aren’t just a table and two chairs. There’s a sofa, lounge chairs, accent chairs, meeting tables, etc. Also, private rooms that you can reserve. The coffee is a 10/10 and the service was exemplary. Overall, it hit all the marks of what I was looking for in a cafe.

Google
Look no further for a great place to remote work in downtown Seattle. Free Wi-Fi (1workplace) and plenty of seating to choose from. Not to mention, the vibes are impeccable. Head to Post Alley Pizza around the corner for a great quick lunch spot too!

Google
A unique spot in Seattle, they have a mercantile up front, ceramics/home goods scattered around the space, and private rooms available to work in, which is cool. Not a ton of different food options, but enough if you need something, latte was pretty solid as well. Definitely a nice spot to hang out in.

Google
This stunning cafe is an excellent reprieve in downtown. It's calm and welcoming for a work session with excellent coffee. Their lunch is freshly made every day. And they offer cocktails and natural wine with small plates in the evening. The staff is warm and knowledgeable and seem genuinely happy to be working there. What's not to love?

Google
This is a very unique place which combines a cafe, co-working space and a retail space that sells home/kitchen items. I love, love, the atmosphere, the coffee and the food here. I can’t compliment enough the taste, the quality and the warm/welcoming attitude of everyone who works here. I also bought two ceramic bowls from the shop which I love and use everyday.

Google
Very chic, comfy, modern and SPACIOUS café/lounge area! Porter apparently used to be for office employees only, so I'm happy it's open to public now. The menu had a good range of teas, coffee, and happy hour cocktails, with baked goods (Kyoto, Houjicha) from my favorite (Japanese/French) Mitten Bakery! Tables were evenly spaced out for decent privacy, with many plush chairs, and there's a variety of high quality, handmade gift/home decor/kitchen accessories for sale, imported from various countries in the world. You can also reserve private rooms for meetings etc. Also two very stylish and clean bathrooms. Staff were friendly and professional, thank you so much for the welcoming space. Can't wait to go back!!

Yelp
This is a really cute cafe and shop downtown where I like to co-work with friends or work by myself to get out of the house. It has a very nice ambiance and the staff are super friendly. They have free water and lots of delicious food. The only thing is that the prices are very high, even before tax. There are also meeting spaces that can be rented out. One time I was here and someone was using a big meeting room for a baby shower. It was a little disruptive for getting work done, but looked like a cute event. I really like their matcha cake and hojicha cake, which are not too sweet and perfect for sharing.

Yelp
Super interesting space with unexpectedly fire food. The work space looked really cool. It's like a mix of a miniature wework and cafe. They have meeting rooms that you can reserve, fresh, delicious drinks / food, interesting community events, etc. I got the Breakfast Sandwich and Lemon Espresso Tonic. Everything was ready pretty fast. Staff were supper friendly too. I didn't expect much from the sandwich because the egg had an interesting steamed egg shape and texture. However, I was wrong. Why was the sandwich so good. The bread was great. The egg was soft and fluffy. Really flavorful aioli. Wonderful sandwich. The drinks speak for themselves. Great variety in the menu. If I'm ever in Seattle again, I'd definitely come back to get some work done alongside delicious food and drinks.

Yelp
Lively cafe, but still quiet enough to work. Lots of electric outlets and good wi-fi. Sold out of multiple items at 1PM. Cute interior and a big bonus that they're playing SADE ADU in rotation.

Yelp
This is a great place to work from! They have a coworking space that you can rent out, lots of tables and chairs to work from, and a cute shop as well! One of the few places where I feel welcome spending lots of time there. Coffee was good but they did not have espresso the day I went. Served in a beautiful ceramic mug that you can buy in the shop. Croissant was lovely too!

Yelp
I ordered an 8oz decaf oat latte with vanilla and lavender. What I received was quite disappointing. Maybe since it was decaf, the grind was not calibrated correctly, but it was the most sour and unpleasant latte I've ever had. Quite disappointing, since it was $8.82 for a tiny 8oz cup. I think it was the most expensive latte in my life! Also, I'm pretty sure they forgot to add any syrups, because it was not sweetened at all. I tried to get the staff's attention to remake my drink, but they were busy helping others and quickly walked away. I had to rush to other plans, so I gave up and ended up throwing away almost my entire latte because it was undrinkable. It's a cool coworking concept, with plenty of seating and even reservable rooms for meetings. Like others have said, this isn't the best place for a to-go coffee because you are definitely paying for the space instead of the drink itself. I'm leaving 3 stars because the space seems promising and others have said the coffee is good, so maybe I just came on an off-day. Too bad I was just visiting so I won't be able to go back. TLDR: don't order decaf here lol.

Yelp
If you're searching for a café or a coffee shop to work from, then this should be on your list. An absolutely quaint and cute coffee shop in downtown Seattle that brews some great coffee, cocktails and food. They also have some baked goods if you're interested. Overall, a really cute space to meet a friend for coffee or if you're looking for a place to work from!

Yelp
The interior is super cute and perfect for studying/working. It was a little crowded when I went but there was plenty of places to sit regardless. I got an iced London fog with a pulled pork tartine. The London fog was really good and perfect amount of sweetness. The tartine portions was huge!! A little too salty for my taste but overall still a 8/10. Would recommend going for the coffee and the vibes!

Yelp
I was walking aimlessly thru the streets of Seattle when I noticed this shop, and it is one of the most exciting shops I've stumbled upon. The ambiance is modern and eclectic with lots of plants and very intentionally chosen furniture. And the best part, lots of comfy couches. There is a ton of retail goods like Onyx coffee, wines, olive oil, pasta, everything inside Maslow's hierarchy of needs. The retail coffee averages from $19-$24 and one of them was Onyx's Tropical weather blend which I had on espresso. The baristas were very friendly, espresso was well extracted, and felt very relaxed in the space. Will be back again soon!

Yelp
Food: 4.5/5 | Service: 4/5 | Experience: 5/5 I got the chai here. It came out in a cute mug. The shop itself is very clean and modern and prices are fair. There are many tables to sit at to get work done or chat with others.

Yelp
Such a cute cafe in the downtown Seattle area! I came by for a work meeting and it was pretty spacious with lots of tables and seats as well. I was going to order a matcha latte but unfortunately they were sold out so I got a london fog instead. I also got the sesame donut which I really enjoyed. It was super soft and the sesame had great flavor. There workers there are very sweet and the drinks and food came out quick! Will definitely be back.

Yelp
I came here to kill some time in the downtown area and get some work done. Needless to say that this shop has great vibes and made me feel a little more safe than the other coffee shops in the area. - Vanilla latte: Really smooth and not too sweet. No latte art but that made it feel more classic. Super cute mug!

Yelp
If you're a remote worker in Seattle, stop what you're doing and go to The Shop by Porter! I'm in town visiting for the week and was referred to this gem on Monday, it's been my go-to spot every day since. I can honestly say I've never found a place quite like it and I've been working remotely in major cities for years now. First off, the coffee and food are absolutely top-notch. Whether you're craving a perfectly brewed latte or a delicious bite to eat, they've got you covered. But what really sets this place apart is the service - everyone who works here is incredibly friendly and accommodating, making you feel like welcomed and comfortable from the moment you walk in. Now, let's talk about how perfect this place is for remote work. They've thought of everything: comfortable workstations with chargers at every seat, multiple conference rooms you can reserve, monitors for plug-in - literally everything you need to work efficiently. It's a dream come true for anyone needing a productive space away from home or the office. If you're in Seattle and looking for a spot to work remotely, look no further. I'd give The Shop by Porter 10 stars if I could. This place is simply amazing, and I'm beyond grateful I found it! You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
I was looking for a good 3pm coffee fix and a break from work and so glad I came across this place! Love how it's so close to my work building. Their cold brew is pretty good, will definitely be stopping by more and trying other food and drink items they have. Such a great place to grab a drink with a friend to catch up, study, work or even just escape from the outside world for a bit. Amazing vibes, love the decor, and very attentive service!

Yelp
This spot is phenomenal. I would give it more stars if I could! Great place to work or study. Or just come to hang out. Chargers, WiFi, rooms to reserve, tons of comfy chairs and the whole environment is beautiful. Great coffees and food. Everyone who works here is so kind and inviting. Also... wine!

Yelp
Tell me why a 12oz Oat latte is $9.38 and then after tip this small oat latte was $11.08. First of all the price is ridiculous and when I was told the total I had to ask if I was behind charged for two small drinks and not one. I have never seen a latte with a non Gesha variety coffee be charged at such an amount. The service for this almost $12 latte should be impeccable but it was anything but. When I was latte was done being made it was just set on the counter and the barista completely walked away, no one called my name, said thank you, or enjoy, I had to peer over the counter to see the ticket that had my name on it to make sure it was mine. The latte was Luke warm. Not even hot. It was kids temperature where a small child could chug it. While the space is beautiful it was quite dirty. There were dirty dishes all over the cafe when they had a full staff working. I counted 6-7 people behind the bar yet no one came to collect dirty dishes off tables the whole time I was there. At the end of the day this is an example of how a beautifully built and designed cafe is not enough to carry the business but the service should and in this case it does not.

Yelp
Wow, what a fine! A comfortable casual cute place hidden just a block away from the Seattle art museum. The greenery is what grounds this place. I was surprised that they had cocktails, but even more surprised that the cocktails were on a level I had not met before. The espresso martini was well balanced, and the homemade date butter with some thing we talked about the entire time. I want to mention the portion sizes! Finally! A big cookie! If I order bread, it doesn't come half a slice. We left full and happy! It's a spot definitely for a meet up with friends a workspace to get some work done and they even have a back where you can rent out a space for a group of people. Eating? Here. Coffee? Here. Cocktails? Here. Work? Here! I will be going back to try the food--oh! & all of the seating is comfortable chairs, and cushioned couches. There is only one fault and I did not include that in how I rated this: it is pretty pricey. A little bit more of a price than the atmosphere would've called for--But I'm assuming this is because it's close to a few tourist attractions, and this block is developing into a "higher end" City like vibe. (I put that in quotes because it is still a bit seedy in that area).

Yelp
If your lifestyle and tastes include Fishwife tinned fish and Graza drizzling olive oil, then this is the spot for you. A very third space worthy hybrid of store and cafe, with incredibly friendly staff behind the counter. Plenty of armchairs available for laid back conversations, as well as desks for a more focused work session. My matcha latte was very well blended. Will definitely need to come back to try the food and cocktails!

Imani M.

Yelp
Really good spot to do work for a couple hours. Cute ambiance and nice seating. Latte was mid for the price.

Yelp
Adorable little coffee/wine spot that stays open late. Perfect for a meet and great or study time .

Yelp
My friend and I ran in here on a whim to escape the rain, and boy am I glad we did. This ended up being my favorite "cafe run" during our short stay in Seattle. The tasteful assortment of furniture and the fully stocked pastry counter was what drew us in at first. The two ladies behind the counter were so friendly and conversational from the moment we walked in. We took a seat at one of the few plush couches in the space and enjoyed the... - London Fog: As an Earl Grey lover, I've had a good deal of these in the past. But this one has to be one of the best I've had. Not only was the tea flavor itself well-pronounced, but it was accompanied by a subtle toffee-like flavor. Perhaps that's thanks to the sweetener they use. - Americano: Smooth and well-rounded with no bitterness. It's like a hug in a cup! I love ordering one of these with a dessert item. - Square Donut: This was sourced from a new Japanese bakery in the area. The donut itself was a bit more dry and cakey than a typical donut, so it felt like a semi-sweet coffee cake. No complaints there. The thick raspberry filling took it over the top! It had a bright and wholesome flavor. We ended up staying here until a bit past closing time, and the staff was really chill about it. It was nice being able to take our time on our way out. Would've loved to pay this place another visit, especially to WFH. There's some great working space here, from conference rooms to semi-private lounging areas. Would recommend The Shop to anyone looking for a relaxing or productive afternoon!

Elliana B.

Yelp
Amazing work space!! They sell very cute furniture, kitchen decor, have great coffee and food options, and even have a bar. Great staff, so friendly.

Yelp
I came back to try their London fog and the matcha scone. It's perfect for this weather in Seattle. I love this place so much I can just come here every day.

Yelp
i love an aesthetic little cafe and this was exactly that (and a little more-- its also a workspace and i think you can rent out the private rooms/work areas or sit in the open tables/seats)! there's free wifi and plenty of outlets and lots of windows! but more on the food/coffee! we got the jamon foccacia sandwich, which was literally so delicious and a good amount of food for the price! the focaccia was so airy on the inside and had a nice cronchy outside and all the toppings in it paired so well together! their menu only had a few items, and i spoke to the employee and he said the sandwiches are more like staples while the family meal offered tues-thurs(?) rotates every week, will definitely come back to try another time! i also got a caramel latte w oat milk, which was also very good! staff was super friendly and let us look around the space!

Yelp
Such a cool place. Good coffee weird eggs. Tofu tasting eggs. Sponge. Lots of rules. I left a good tip but then had to pick up my own food from the counter and bus my own table. And put the dishes in a certain place.
google avatar

Yelp
Super cool vibes! Great for a coffee date, work meeting, or remote working. I love how heavy their mugs are
google avatar

Yelp
The atmosphere of the Shop is what draws you in. Just imagine -- plants everywhere you look, the smell of coffee in the air & you are surrounded by design creatives spinning ideas off one another. Stop by for a quick bite or a glass of wine, you can't go wrong here. Oh, and the bathrooms have the coolest wallpaper I've ever seen.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is the coolest. What a vibe. I feel like I'm back in the 60s with newer furniture. Check it out!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing staff and hospitality! Delicious bites and cocktails! Fun place to work. I highly recommend stopping by and staying awhile. You'll also want to purchase one of their amazing smelling candles on your out. Enjoy!!

Brianna M.

Yelp
The energy and the people! It's a beautiful space to come work and mingle but also the perfect place to escape your day to day. Highly recommend if you're in the area.
google avatar

Jm C.

Yelp
We "shopped" around what looked like people's conference rooms with cold pizza boxes and discarded coats everywhere. Then had to pay $12 dollars for an iced americano.
google avatar

Kyle H.

Yelp
What a beautiful new spot in the heart of downtown Seattle to enjoy a coffee, snack, or drink and browse interesting decor and furniture pieces from a diverse group of makers. Don't skip on the food either. It's sneaky good in it's simplicity. And the staff is as warm and welcoming as any place you'll find in the area. Porter's shop is Hospitality personified.
google avatar

Amy A.

Yelp
The Shop is a beautiful and welcoming space with Seattle inspired details to be discovered throughout. Food is delicious with my favorite being the house made foccacia and carmelized leek dip. Excellent coffee and inspired craft cocktails are a must try. Retail space includes a beautifully curated collection supporting diverse small businesses and a great selection of bottled wines. Space doubles as an event venue and coworking environment for the design community and is an inspiring place to stop in and get some work done.
google avatar

Yelp
The Shop by Porter has been an inspiring place for me to go and work-- It totally got me out of my shell after working from home for the last few years. Food IS AMAZING and I'm a total foodie. And there are beautiful products that feature BIPOC makers as well. highly recommend.

Yelp
When you walk in the atmosphere is already set. It feels very Seattle. The decor is modern and clean, it's a whole vibe. Not to mention the coffee is fabulous! Olympia Coffee Roasters never misses. The staff is very congenial as well. And also check out the bathrooms!
google avatar

M D.

Yelp
The Shop is beautiful and the atmosphere is inspiring. The bites and drinks are creative and super tasty. Best of all the staff feel like friends and you feel welcome the moment you step inside. Amazing spot!

Yelp
The Shop is a breath of fresh air in downtown Seattle. The food service (limited menu of small bites and salads) is delicious, and the beverage service (beer, wine, kombucha, and craft cocktails) is nothing short of divine. More than that, the atmosphere is unlike any I've experienced before - the furniture is gorgeous, the space is filled to the brim with beautiful plants, and the people are so kind and welcoming. If you ever need a place to pop in and work for a couple hours, or just want to unwind with a cocktail (if you haven't tried an old fashioned with rum and sherry, you are missing out!), the Shop is the perfect destination!

Jennifer L.

Yelp
I attended a series of events at The Shop in May. The minute you walk in the door you are welcomed by a warm atmosphere... beautiful furniture, plants and accessories. This amazing space is only topped by the top notch staff... there to offer you a coffee, delicious food or an end of day cocktail. Would highly recommend popping by to check out their products, grab a bite and chill for a bit.
