The D.C.-Area Restaurant Openings You Should Know About This September | Eater DC

"A polished mid-Atlantic and French restaurant inside JW Marriott Reston Station shows off an open kitchen turning out dry-aged pressed duck infused with lavender, pan-seared rockfish, and house-made pastas, plus a tableside cheese cart packed with local selections and the largest array of Murray’s Cheese outside New York. The Shar Bar leans into amaro and rare bourbons, pairing with snacks like sour corn hushpuppies with sorghum butter and mains like a Maryland crab roll, and the dining room already serves breakfast, lunch, and weekend brunch." - Tierney Plumb

Came to this cool new place on New Years Eve and it was one of the best experiences in a while for us. Not only the service and staff were phenomenal the food was on the next level. The beautiful arrangement, amazing flavors, interesting menu items and dessert from another world. Seriously, Cuban Cigar dessert is a must! I think my own favorite items were the cheese sample we got, the chickpeas fries, wild mushroom side along with the puree, with Tomahawk for 2! I think looking at how everyone was at the place made it that much better, the attention, the friendliness and professionalism were superb. Our new favorite place for very special dinners, is now here!

Decor and ambiance were great and align with the JW Marriott brand. The wait staff were very knowledgeable about the menu and suggestions. My water was always filled and they swapped utensils for fresh ones between each course. The experience started with a basket of asorted breads and homemade butter with flake salt. Each of us also received an amushbush which was a small tart filled with very fruit compote and Camembert. We agreed that it needed a little less Camembert because it overpowered the fruit and it was really all you tasted. The presentation of the entrées and desserts was absolutely beautiful. The portion size was good for me because I don’t eat a lot but others in our group have a larger appetite and were not full. It was unclear from the menu description which items came with a side and which did not. Basically only 1 did and we should have added sides. The flavor profile was hit or miss. Some of the items stood out while others were average. At this higher price point, they nail the service and experience but need to have more consistency with flavor and cooking temperatures.

Here’s a polished, standout review you can post as-is or tweak slightly for your tone: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Exceptional Experience at The Simon The Simon delivers on every level. The food was absolutely outstanding—beautifully prepared, full of flavor, and clearly made with high-quality ingredients. Every dish felt thoughtfully crafted and memorable. The drinks were just as impressive. Creative, perfectly balanced, and expertly made, they elevated the entire experience and paired wonderfully with the meal. What truly tied everything together was the service. Attentive, friendly, and professional without ever feeling intrusive. The staff made us feel genuinely welcomed and well taken care of from start to finish. Whether you’re going for a special night out or simply want an excellent meal with fantastic cocktails, The Simon is a must-visit. We can’t wait to come back.

We stopped by The Simon in Reston and sat at the bar, and it was such a great experience. The space itself feels upscale and polished definitely one of the fancier spots in the area, but still comfortable to hang out in. The espresso martini was smooth and not overly sweet. You get that bold espresso flavor with a creamy finish, and it felt crafted rather than rushed. We also tried the chocolate cake, which was rich & moist. Paired with the espresso martini, it was the perfect dessert moment. The bar staff was attentive, warm, and professional, which made the whole visit even better. Overall, a beautiful atmosphere, great drinks or a date night, and the dessert itself is worth coming back for!

The Simon, a French Mediterranean-inspired restaurant in the newly opened JW Marriott Reston Station hotel in Northern Virginia, delivers an exquisite dining experience. It has quickly become a standout with a focus on fresh ingredients, a well-curated cocktail bar, and an extensive wine list. I absolutely loved the color scheme, the stunning light fixtures, and the combination of wood and leather furnishings that create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Brunch was nothing short of fantastic. The pastry basket, eggs Benedict, and omelet were delicious, expertly crafted, and healthy. The refreshing Orange Creamsicle juice was a delightful burst of vibrant color and flavor, while the Protein Blast smoothie was tasty and nutritious. To top off this remarkable meal, the scone served with homemade butter and lemon curd was the perfect finishing touch. Jean's exceptional service made the entire experience memorable, and I truly appreciated Chef Tony's warm hospitality. I can confidently say that The Simon is a remarkable dining destination, and I look forward to revisiting.

Enjoyed a lovely dinner here with friends for a birthday! Leandro did a great job, taking care of us and made sure the courses arrived promptly but not in a way that felt rushed. The food itself was wonderful and included some surprises such as an amuse bouche to start and fabulous desserts. The chess pie is a highlight as was the taglione pasta and steak tartare. Beautiful and spacious dining room with nice ambience and live jazz music the Friday night we dined here

The Simon is Northern Virginia’s newest treasure, definitely a must-visit for anyone who values the perfect balance of ambiance and exceptional cuisine. From its striking entrance to the warm, inviting lighting and carefully curated color schemes, the atmosphere strikes a rare balance—comfortable yet undeniably elegant—setting the stage for an unforgettable dining experience. The food is true culinary artistry—each bite melting in your mouth and tempting you to linger over every flavor. Every dish bursts with distinctive, harmonious flavors that feel both elevated and comforting. Even ingredients I’d normally shy away from—like beets—were completely transformed under the skillful hands of Chef Tony. He turned a vegetable I never favored into something so flavorful, it changed my perspective entirely. The restaurant’s design, with its nod to rich history and thoughtfully chosen details, creates an atmosphere full of charm and character—one that invites you to return and make new memories time and time again. A few of my favorite dishes were: Lobster Ravioli, Tangliolini Pasta, Burrata Salad, and Dry Aged Duck a la Presse. If you’re looking for a place that combines atmosphere, history, and unforgettable flavors, The Simon is it.

I had an amazing time at the Simon. The tomahawk so so worth it and cooked to perfection. Dessert was so worth it and everyone who came to the table was so attentive and kind. Isaac made amazing suggestions and made our time very worthwhile. Definitely pay the Simon a visit soon!

Yelp
New restaurant in Reston located in the Marriott bldg. My search for a good French toast in NoVA is over. Service and food are both great. Will definitely be back when I get a craving for French toast. I'll be back soon to try dinner/desserts.

Yelp
The restaurant is beautiful. I love the decor and warm, earth tones and curved, modern light fixtures that sweep the room. The host staff at the front of the restaurant were personable, kind and attentive offering to check my coat without being prompted. Unfortunately, I think our waitress - though sweet - needs some help with customer service. We had a large party and weren't checked on very frequently if at all even as she walked past our table several times as she waited on the couple to the right of us. Basic rule when you're a waiter, walk by the table of guests and: "Everything good? Do you need anything.." We had to flag her down several times to put in orders. I'm going to assume multitasking is not her strong point. Finally, the main reason for my score is the food being less than stellar. Seasoning? Never heard of em here. I ordered the steak; looked beautiful but it tasted just like the grill. I don't think they even bothered to put any salt or pepper on the meat. The same could be said for my friends that ordered the risotto. The one with prawns? Shrimp were small and very light skinned. Chicken? Also tasted like the grill. Flavor never entered the building here. If you're looking for a satisfying meal, please go elsewhere. The cocktails on the other hand were great.

Yelp
came for a quick last minute dinner with family to close out the holiday weekend. the vibes are very cozy and its located in the JW Marriott which is not hard to find we were immediately seated upon entering but orders were not taken for some time. food came out relatively quick however the amuse bouche was an interesting berry compote with brie cheese - a sweet start to the meal i wasnt too hungry so i ordered the tomato soup as my meal. the soup was savory and warm and delicious but i could have definitely done without the grilled cheese def would recommend for the vibes and if you need a local option bite

Yelp
A beautiful and modern restaurant located in the new JW Marriott hotel. Parking is a bit complicated, but we called for best directions. For easiest parking: Park in the Row garage. Level G2East. Take the elevators up to 1, cross the plaza directly across from you (towards the metro) and the hotel entrance (not the residences) is under the awning on your left. Pro tip - restaurant is cashless, so have your card handy. There wasn't a bar tender available until 11, so unfortunately we didn't get any mimosas (which we were planning on for our bubbly brunch!). The scones (at $10) were delicious, particularly the lemon curd. I just wish you got more than 2 for that price. Several of us ordered the eggs Benedict. Eggs were perfectly poached and the bakery style English muffin was perfect. I found the Virginia ham overwhelmingly salty, but the salad was a nice compliment. The waiter was awesome and so nice. Staff wrote my friend a congrats card, as we were celebrating the soon-to-be birth of her baby.

Yelp
Wow! 10000/10 experience. I loved this place and would come back for a celebratory or regular dinner. The staff was so kind and the restaurant is beautiful inside and quiet on a Sunday. I love the big comfy booths. The food here is a total standout! I love the amuse bouche they give you. Each dish was plated craft fully. The crab salad was so cute and really refreshing. The tile fish was delicious and flaky but also a meaty white fish. But I loved the filet mignon! Yes a smaller cut but the meat was soooo tender and the crust on it was amazing. I also loved the mashed potatoes - not overly indulgent and so tasty. They gave us a free dessert for a celebration, the strawberries and crème. It was so unique and plated beautifully. I will be back!

Yelp
My family dined here tonight and it was ok. We first arrived and parked in the VIDA parking garage. They do validate parking. We entered through the hotel and promptly made a right through the tunnel into the Simon. The vibes were immaculate and the service was great--especially with our 1 year old baby. We ordered: - bread basket (good, but small for the price) - the lobster ravioli (tasted unique and flavorful, but I didn't love the earthiness) - the salmon (cooked perfectly) - the filet (super tender and flavorful. Loved the layered potatoes it was served with) - Carolina gold risotto (I loved the balsamic, the seared prawns were cooked perfectly, and I loved the autumnal flavors with the pumpkin) - the tilefish (which replaced the rockfish. Light, flakey, delicate, very flavorful) - the chocolate cake (rich, good) - the strawberry ring (tasted ok, it was a bit hard, maybe too frozen? And I would've liked to taste more strawberry) Overall, we enjoyed our experience here. The service was top notch. Some of the food had some interesting earthy flavors which I don't know that I was a huge fan of. We particularly did not enjoy the amuse bouche which was a tartlet with blueberry compote and moon cheese. And the desserts were honestly just ok. But the entrees were stand out and very enjoyable. I could see myself coming back for the vibes, the service, and the entrees. I hope to return to try the pasta with caviar.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch at The SIMON inside the brand-new JW Marriott Reston Station and, honestly... WOW. If I could give extra stars, I would. From the second you walk in, the space hits you--warm, stylish, and just begging for you to settle in and stay a while. Our server, David, was the perfect balance of professional and personable--he knew the menu inside and out, and his suggestions were spot on (seriously, he deserves a medal for patience with all my "but what about..." questions). We kicked things off with the charcuterie board. The cheeses and meats were top tier, but the in-house pâté? GAME. CHANGER. I'd come back just for that spread alone. Entrées? My friend went for the rockfish and could not stop gushing about how buttery it was. (He said it no less than five times, and honestly, I believe him.) The mussels that came with it? Tender perfection. I went the classic route with the turkey club, which was anything but ordinary. Perfectly shaved turkey, multigrain bread toasted to crisp-but-not-crumbly perfection, and fries that should come with a warning label because they're dangerously addictive. You've been warned. Dessert was non-negotiable, and thank goodness for that. The strawberry ring was fresh and bright, while the hazelnut chocolate cake was pure, decadent heaven on a plate. We didn't talk for five minutes because we were too busy eating. This was my first visit to The SIMON but my second visit to the property (shout-out to Schar Bar for being amazing, too). Each spot has its own vibe, but both have been nothing short of stellar. Next stop: dinner at Service--because if lunch was this good, I can only imagine what's coming. Bottom line? Get yourself here. Order the fries. Thank me later.

Yelp
Let me start by saying this place is absolutely stunning! The service was impeccable and the food was delicious I did a Sunday brunch to celebrate my moms birthday today and it was nothing short of amazing and exactly what we needed She had a cappuccino, French toast, grits and bacon. I had an almond milk latte, smoked salmon benedict, and a fruits plate. We finished it out with a complimentary glass of desert wine for a little birthday toast I can't wait to go back

Yelp
We were staying at the JW Marriott and wanted to try out their restaurant after visiting family in town. Dinner: 1) Grilled Cheese w/Tomato Bisque 2) JW MARRIOTT SALAD 3) Tomahawk for 2 ( 2 sides: Mashed potatoes, mushrooms, salad, and large Tomahawk w/ bone on the side) 4) Crème puff For dinner we were served by Bill and for breakfast we were served by Jean. They were both so kind, smart, and generous with their time and service. They made the experience homey, fun, and made sure our decisions were well informed! Breakfast: Brioche French Toast All American Breakfast Sliced Seasonal Fruit plate Hunger Crunch Smoothie We could tell from the dishes that the chef and their team put so much love and care into the dishes. The vibe was cozy, classic, and romantic. We loved it and will definitely be staying and eating again! 10/10 would come again

Yelp
Started out our brunch with a fresh basket of house made pastries and a Coastal Negroni followed by the most delicious, perfectly cooked omelette I've ever had. Melissa, our bartender, was friendly, professional, and paid attention to detail.

Yelp
Excellent food, well appointed decor, warm and genuine service from start to finish. A unique option amongst all the chain restaurant options in Reston area.

Yelp
Executive Chef Tony Digregorio breathes fire into the nova food scene. Literally. Check him out spoiling this birthday girl by setting a cognac caramel ablaze and pouring it atop her dessert. (The Quintessential Chess Pie) Pennsylvania Gold Chicken was absolutely phenomenal. As you eat your way through this dish, you are first comforted. Chicken skin, silky pommes puree. Then you bite into a layer of brioche farce, or taste the king trumpets, you become interested all over again. Every dish is plated like art. Shockingly delicious. Playful, delightful and fun. It has been evident since the opening that Chef Tony keeps this philosophy close to his heart while creating his menu. Also; The stunning Schar Bar greets you as you walk in to The Simon. Warmly lit shelves house 100's of unique and familiar spirits. Shout out to Kristen and Hamza. They know I don't drink alcohol and will whip up 0proof drinks for me that have all the flavors of rye whiskey without the burn. This makes me feel included in an experience I usually can't enjoy. 10/10 on every front.

Yelp
The food was delicious and the ambience comfortable at The Simon. For a higher-end hotel, the food was reasonably priced. Our server/bartender Skylar was really attentive and informative. She made us two mocktails that weren't on the menu, a Paloma and a Shenandoah Spritz with non-alcoholic gin. The Simon Burger, the hush puppies, the layered potato and the hand cut tagliolini pasta were very delicious. The host explained that some cocktails on the menu at the Schar Bar were favorites of Reston founder Robert Simon. The hallway entrance to the restaurant is a wood-lined hallway with Indigenous American Artifacts on display. After we spotted a minor mistake on our bill, the item was removed, which was very nice. Great place!

Yelp
So I have eaten at The Simon three times in a little over a week. I have been in for lunch and the dry aged burger is so juicy and delicious. The fries are crisp and fresh and so good. Now on to the next visit I brought my wife in for dinner. The cocktails were great they were just perfectly balanced. I chose the Riesling as I was talked into ordering the chicken. I was happy with it but I was super jealous of my wife's risotto as it was just perfectly cooked. It might be my favorite risotto I have had in quite some time. The wine paired perfectly with both meals. We had dessert and the chocolate bar is much bigger than I expected, it was delicious but it's easily enough to share. I walked out stuffed to the gill. I was pleasantly surprised by the cost which was about 40% less than a downtown restaurant. The modern decor and bar are so needed in Reston. You will be impressed when you try this place. I love it. Oh and the service was impeccable and timing was on point not rushed but attentive.

Yelp
We had the duck a la presse with Tony. It is quite an amazing cuexperience. Service was excellent with Bill. We definitely will come back to try other dishes.

Yelp
The esthetic and ambiance is smooth and elegant. The breakfast and more than pleasant service were exactly what I needed after a celebratory night. The special birthday dessert moscato was a bonus in addition to the French Toast! - Next stop, the private dining room....

Yelp
The ambiance of the Simon is very nice, tables are not stacked so close to each other as to feel servers trying to get between seats. The cocktails Simon Martini has made me want to switch to onion in my Martini instead of olives, bravo. The Black Forest G&T was excellent as well. On the way to be seated at our table approximately 520 the hostess stopped and had our party standing in the middle of the restaurant for about 1-2 minutes while she figured out where to seat us after starting the walk to the table. I understand floor plans and seating arrangements with reservations however don't just leave guest standing. We were only a party of 4 seat us and go make the adjustments to the reservations as needed. The server did not bring us the amuse-bouche course, when we noted this to Christine the GM after we had paid for our dinner. She stated "would you like them to go". Rather tacky to say this to a guest who is full from dinner. The meal itself we started with apps to share. Local Maryland crab salad good flavor. Lobster Ravioli was ok flavor could have been better. The steak tartare was excellent flavor. All dishes had a beautiful presentation also the bread basket had some unique breads well done. The entrees hand cut Tagliolini with shrimp added my wife really enjoyed. The gold rice risotto with prawns one guest enjoyed and hanger steak was enjoyed by another guest. I had the duck a la presse since I love duck. This was ok. First you poly get the breast not the legs and wings. Additionally the fat I think could have been rendered down more. In comparison to the Duck from the Blue Duck Tavern at the Park Hyatt in DC . This Duck a la Presse pales in comparison. Sides wild mushrooms fricassee was good flavor. The chickpea fries crisp outside creamy texture on inside well done! Service was average, the servers bringing food basically sold food at table. They did not know whose dish was whose so we ended up telling them who was getting what dish. Also plates principal dish should be place between 3-9 o'clock not at midnight. After all this is the signature item on plate let your guess see it. The presentation on plates was very nice from the chef and kitchen staff. Plates not excessively hot and wiped properly. We explained the positive and areas to address to Christine the GM who seemed a bit uninterested in the areas to improve. If you want to be $100 a plate type of restaurant then service needs to improve being open for 2 months many of these items should have been corrected already!

Yelp
Had lunch here with my wife for our anniversary. The space is beautiful and really well appointed. We got the burger with fries, rockfish, and a cauliflower side. We each had a glass of wine. The food was average, both in taste and execution, except for the fries, which were cold but crispy and had an essence of cardboard. I got an orange wine and my wife got a Sancerre rosé. The wines were good. Independent of price it's probably 3 stars, but the price point makes it 2 stars for me.

Bob K.

Yelp
My wife and I went to The Simon for breakfast this morning, and the food was fantastic. My wife loved the Quiche, and the Avocado Toast was exceptional as well. Definitely recommend the fresh bread (made in-house). The portions were perfect. I must also mention the employees who took great care of us: Cristian, Emily, Vincent, and Nora (w/ JW Marriott). Everyone was friendly and helpful. We will certainly return soon.

Diane M.

Yelp
The food was mediocre. Good enough but not enough to recommend it to anyone. The service was painfully slow. The ambiance saves the venue. It's lively and fun.

Mohammad J.

Yelp
The food is very good. Decoration is gorgeous mid-century/modern and expertly done. It was quiet and enjoyable. The wait staff are young, eager, and clearly learning. I highly recommend the place.
