Where to Eat and Drink on St. Patrick’s Day in Dallas | Eater Dallas

"Irishman Feargal McKinney opened several bars locally after touching down in Dallas in the ‘80s. The Skellig is always a good choice for an authentic Irish experience. Grab fish and chips or corned beef and cabbage with a side of Guinness for brunch. The vibes here are strictly a dive bar, with rustic exposed brick, picnic-style tables out of stained wood, high tops, a gleaming U-shaped bar, and dim lighting. Bushmills features heavily on the menu and decor." - Alaena Hostetter

Came here for the $2 taco Wednesday. Ordered one of each to try it out. My favorite was the Mexican fried chicken but beware it is spicy if you can’t handle spicy! The fish and barbocoa was good. If you are feeling adventurous try the pulpo. The bartenders gave great service. I am aware that the past reviews have not said so but mind that I came here at 6:30pm so the experience was different.

Google
Whoever described this place as unsafe and dirty was 10000% correct. Bar allowed a group of VERY drunk and VERY aggressive young men (20s) to harass and intimidate others with NASTY homophobic and bigoted slurs. It’s 2025 for Christ’s sake. Clean up your bar and remove patrons that are clearly drunk, aggressive, and looking for a physical altercation. Absolutely shameful and disgusting. 0/5 stars.

Google
Lovely place. Fish and chips were delicious as well as the Buffalo cauliflower and Brussel sprouts. The batter on the fish was crispy and tasty definitely recommend it

Google
3 words to describe this establishment…unsafe, dirty, and sub par food. Went to celebrate with some friends, aside from the place being overly crowded with people, we also got robbed while there. Purses and phones are not safe, even when still on your body. There are no cameras to witness any of the illegal activity too. I suggest you think before entering. After reading other reviews with the same pick pocket activity we need to spread the word.

Google
Go get a Tequila Sunrise from Austin G. 10/10 recommend 👌🏼. Great place to be if you want to be a degenerate during the day on a weekend.

Google
Food is good, but service & staff could be better. Was there last night, my friend left her phone inside and when we tried to go find it during closing, we were turned away with no compassion. Was told to return today at 11 am to find the phone but today’s phone location is now at a landfill. Now there’s no way to get the phone. Could have been prevented if they at least let us look for the phone.

Google
I have been coming here for years and I have always had the best experience. These recent reviews must be confusing Skellig with the sketchy bar next door. Lindsey, Jencyn and Courtney are the best!!

Priscilla Dvm

Google
Best brunch spot around this area! We go here almost every weekend. My favorite dish is the chicken and biscuits definitely need to try! The traditional breakfast and breakfast tacos are my friends and family’s favorites. Mimosas are good and the service is always on point.

Yelp
Absolutely incredible! We had our holiday party here and I can't tell you how amazing it was! The food, drinks, and hospitality was exceptional! Lots of parking in the rear of the building. Highly recommend!

Yelp
We went here for TX/OU. It was a great atmosphere with both Texas and OU fans (unfortunately...) and we were able to all sit at the same table. The staff was exceptionally kind and understanding despite the anticipation of serving during such a wild game. I got a simple breakfast which was of course great, and the cider was wonderful. They have an interesting twist on a sangria with rose wine.
google avatar

Kambiz A.

Yelp
Went there on a Saturday night. Great atmosphere! Even if it gets packed the bartenders are quick & kind.

Yelp
LINDSEY ROCKS!!!! Go here and also give Lindsey a raise. She has amazing service and she is also so gorgeous

Yelp
Lauren is the absolute worst. She forced me to get out of line after I waited in line for over an hour. I asked for her partners name and she refused me. Lauren should definitely reconsider where she works due to her negligence. In addition, Caleb should not be customer facing. He stated my boyfriend could not join me despite me saving his spot; between his attitude and his demeanor, I was deeply offended, unsatisfied, and embarrassed. They went as far as to have the local police remove us claiming we were "uncooperative". I promise I will keep following up until I reach a resolution.

Yelp
Visited Skellig for the first time recently and it was a very fun location. The staff most of all is truly great and very attentive to the clientele (S/O to Kassandra for being a great host!). They're quick to prepare your food and drinks, where the food selection on the menu is quite broad and very tailored to bar food. Good bar food at that. They're also very passionate, the owner himself was in the back kitchen preparing meals all day during the USA v. England World Cup match. The ambiance differs depending on time of day and what day of the week you visit. Friday/Saturday nights it becomes quite packed with a fairly young crowd but was still a great time. However, the mobility around the bar was incredibly limited. During the day around game time it was actually pretty great, not too many people, but just enough to have a great time. I'll definitely return in the near future for another visit.

Yelp
Peyton is the best cocktail waitress in the business. Ask for her whenever you come here .
google avatar

Yelp
So many people inside this joint. So many people. Everybody just watching the games happening. Kinda fun honestly. Sheridan the waitress (friend of my friend cam bam grand slam woodall) was a gem and a half. My Dr Pepper was tasty. Got the double whiskey something or other burger and it was delectable. Booth had a caged light thing that made the whole thing have a mysterious, almost pirates of the Caribbean vibe. Not complaining. No jack sparrow sightings.

Yelp
On weeknights Skellig is a consistent, engaging neighborhood pub. Their beer companion board rivals some of the best charcuterie I've had in Dallas. The chicken tenders are crisp and fluffy, like Cane's, and the chocolate brownie is blissful. If you sit outside, make sure to let someone at the bar know because sometimes they forget to check on who has walked up. On weekends; however, Skellig turns into a raging sports center. They're packed wall to wall with post-grads and SMU students watching football and pregaming clubs. I wouldn't recommend trying to come for dinner as you won't get served anything but alcohol.
google avatar

Katelyn M.

Yelp
All I need to say- JAYCIE AND BRYCE!!!!! Best bartenders in town. Dallas staple, if you don't go you're missing out.
google avatar

Jaime Z.

Yelp
Skellig is where the party starts and ends for the night. This is where you go in Dallas to meet young successful people in Dallas. The food is good, but that's not the real reason you come here. The atmosphere is great if you are into the crowded bar scene. The food is surprisingly good and the beer is cold!
google avatar

Charley Y.

Yelp
A wonderful neighborhood bar! Have not had a chance to try out the food menu, but the drinking experience has been nothing short of memorable. The bar staff had been extremely friendly- and you must try the El Chapo shot bomb. It's half tequila mixed with a Rattler beer, a perfect combination. Prices are extremely reasonable here- $10 for many signature cocktails. It really gets busy here on the weekends. My close friends were introduced to each here and became a couple shortly. A solid mix of indoor and outdoor bars. They have a cute fire pit for winter months. If you are looking for a high volume drink, I suggest you choose the Summer Beer cocktail. Come and try to have as many el Chapo shots as possible. The bartender will challenge you and good luck.

James F.

Yelp
When you need a drink, skellig. When you need a food, skellig. When you need a jmo, skellig. When you need a friend, skellig. When you need a laugh, skellig. When you need a skellig, skellig.

Jake A.

Yelp
It seems like the skellig is back! Definitely a fun time, I recommend trying the el Chappo. The line can get really bad sometimes, and it's usually a hit or miss vibe for me. But overall a solid bar, and plenty of places to walk to after if it isn't your vibe.
google avatar

Brigitte K.

Yelp
Great place to watch games, try el chapo's with your friends. Loaded fries were good too
google avatar

Michael R.

Yelp
Super chill and great for a date night, or night out with the ladies! It's an upscale bar, not really dancing music but once and a while a good song will come on.

Reanna W.

Yelp
The owner is so nice. The staff are wonderful. Good food, good drinks, great ambiance. It's got the dark old-school bar feel with upbeat vibes. Highly recommend!!!

Allie J.

Yelp
Me and my friends have come here many times and it's always been great but the last few times servers are just not as good as before. A girl with dark hair some nickname with a P was our server and was just so rude to my guy friends trying to get them to buy all our drinks and shots all night when we were all separate tabs and kept saying that to her. We closed our checks and just started ordering from the bar to not have this problem. Drinks were great as always and the bartenders were great but that server makes me not want to go back
google avatar

Zoe M.

Yelp
Loud, lively, with a young crowd! Everyone seemed to be in their 20's unless someone brought a parent in! Classic bar food. Only complaint is the burger. Really thin slab of meat. Relatively similar in size to McDonald's or Whataburger. Fries were similar to that category as well. The ranch and queso were both great! Chips were served hot! Food and drinks came out in good timing! We ordered the El Chapo shots which did not disappoint! Service was great. Good atmosphere.
google avatar

Cole L.

Yelp
Had the tossed Buffalo chicken basket. Skewing probably has the best chicken tendies over any pub in Dallas! Never disappoints.
google avatar

Liz A.

Yelp
Great environment and service! Reasonable prices for food and drinks. Delicious brunch menu and brunch drinks. I highly recommend their Cold Brew Irish Coffee, if you're a coffee lover. Ask for Kayleigh, she is THE BEST server and doesn't miss!

Dan C.

Yelp
Oh my stars stripes, have you met Payton$? (I pray I am spelling her name right). This person was the most on top of it waitress I have ever met! It's not often you meet such a sweetheart yet is so laser focused on drink orders and personalities. The girls were jealous yet still crumbled their hearts all over the table at the end, because sweet Payton$ won all our hearts over in the end. I will never be the same after this experience. Thank you Skellig. Thank you God. Thank you Payton$.
google avatar

Gabriella F.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite go-tos! They have something for everyone in terms of food (vegetarian options), and drinks. The standard of service is also ALWAYS on point. My Old Fashioneds are always prepared the same way and always excellent. My friends say The Skellig have "the best fried chicken fingers in Dallas!"
google avatar

David W.

Yelp
This is great place to come hang out. Great beer selection and a great staff. The manager Rajillo is the best! (Sorry if I butchered that name). I would have given 5 stars, actually got annoyed and left because some jackass who worked there was taking pictures and kept popping a camera off in our faces. It was extremely annoying to think that that sick didn't understand that he may be bothering people. He wasn't gonna win a Pulitzer Prize for anything he did that night. However, after 10 it becomes a bunch of drunk, rude, pushy college kids. Unless you're a drunk, rude, and pushy college kid don't stay too late. It's pathetic how rude these people are at the Skellig. Ruined a good night.
google avatar

Shannon P.

Yelp
I visited Dallas this past weekend and came to Skellig twice in that short time because it was so fun, lively, and had great bartender service. Jackson the bartender gets a 10/10! It is also nice to have the option to sit outside or inside.
google avatar

Kathryn M.

Yelp
Love coming here during the day or night to watch sports or have a great night! There's a lot of outdoor seating & a cool inside bar. The food is pretty good too, the brunch looks tasty but I have had the chicken fajita tacos (super cheap) & the mini chicken avocado sandwiches are good too! I don't like summer beers but apparently theirs are pretty good
google avatar

Emily S.

Yelp
Very unimpressed. My fiancé and I went here for college game day. We asked 4 different people to change one of the TVs to the Baylor game, all who said "sure" and never did. Also half the workers are high out of their minds. Pretty sure the server didn't even know he was supposed to be waiting tables at one point. The bar tender also wouldn't take my drink order because she said someone would come by our table. 30 minutes went by and no one came. I have nothing to say about the food or drink quality because after 30 minutes of waiting, someone finally tells us "we don't get ESPN+" so we couldn't watch the game and we stormed out of that hell hole.
google avatar

Allison F.

Yelp
Love skellig- great atmosphere and great food and music! Nice patio outside! I like the mimosa special on the weekends!
google avatar

Diana V.

Yelp
One of the best places in town to watch a game. Lots of seating and TVs, service is pretty good and theres a lot of good staple food options. On the weekends late I would describe this place as "classy ratchet." It's not as crusty as places like Theory or Bottled Blonde, but people are still pretty drunk. For me, thats a pretty good time. I have a good time when I go but I don't feel like I need to shower 3 times afterwards or bring a full bottle of pepper spray. Overall I think this place is worth the hype. One of the best bars in Dallas.

Claire S.

Yelp
My friend and I started going out in Dallas about a year ago. This was one of the first places we stumbled upon, and we have not stopped going since. We love the nachos, and the drinks are unbeatable. The line can get a little long during the school year due to the SMU students, but during the summer it's great!

Rr B.

Yelp
Good happy hour. Most enjoyable. Nice staff. Patio where you can hear your friend's talking. Fish and chips and Mexican fried chicken taco are the places to start.
google avatar

Ellis P.

Yelp
Super fun bar! The line was down the block but moved unexpectedly fast. There is a bar inside and outside, which makes it easy to get a drink.
google avatar

Brady P.

Yelp
Terrible service and bouncers that love to assert their ego for the smallest of issues. However I cannot deny the chicken tendies are on point.
google avatar

Idris A.

Yelp
Good tacos for a good price. Thursday is the best night to come because of the $5 classic cocktails. Real good to watch the game or just get some cheap food.

Ryan G.

Yelp
Bad experience all together. After waiting in line for 20+ minutes we entered the bar to a shoulder to shoulder crowd. The space was at capacity. When we tried to make our way to the patio we encountered a line to get through a simple doorway. We said excuse me to another patron which quickly tuned into a misunderstanding. The patron ended up squeezing her entire drink in my face. As this happened bouncers showed up and escorted me and my girlfriend out of the bar. Had this been my fault I would not have written the review. Awful experience. I hope to never be back.
google avatar

Ken P.

Yelp
I have an hour before my appointment at the Apple store and thought it be a great idea to get a beer and appetizer, in lieu of being in the Apple Store. I was quickly greeted by Ian, one of the bartenders and asked if I was thirsty lol. One thing I wish bats would start doing is offer water or bring water to the guest when they seat at the bar. If I'm drinking water, I won't get drunk so fast and probably buy more beer! Duh but anyway I ordered the Hawaiian Roadrunner, which is a tropical blonde ale and the cheese fries. The ale was right on. The temp served was twin peaks cold and the cheese fries were freaking awesome. Be careful... those house pickled jalapeños sneak up on you. Next time I'm back I've got to try the fish and chips.

Haley S.

Yelp
TERRIBLE! Do not waste your time in Dallas here. They have the patio blocked off, which is the center of the bar. If you need to go to the bathroom or have a tab open at the other bar you have to wait twenty minutes to a half hour in another line of shoving people in the center of the bar. They do this because of a "fire Hazzard" outside; however, they create a baracade in front of the door to get outside trapping everyone inside. It is the most poorly planned bar I've ever seen. I spent most of the not separated from my friends. We gave up and left. Any other bar would be better.

Rosa M.

Yelp
Met up with some girlfriends that were already in line and joined them but the bouncer kicked me out of the line bc he insisted that I had to wait all the way in the back. My whole group wasn't going to let me stand alone so they had to leave and waste the hour that they had already waited. Bouncers seemed to be on some sick power trip.
google avatar

Jolene J.

Yelp
Solid burger and amazing fish and chips!! I'd come here during less popular hours just for the food! Service is about what you'd expect in a bar. Good place to hang out to watch sports and get actually good food! It does get very loud at popular times, though, so not a v good date spot imo.
google avatar

Tung N.

Yelp
Came here recently for brunch, and it was one of the slowest server experience I've ever had. We waited almost 20 minutes for just mimosas and coffee. I don't get it. The place wasn't particularly swamped either. As for the food, it was good quality for the pricing. Definitely on the lower end compared to all the other brunch locations in Dallas. The mimosas were also a steal at $11/carafe. That's definitely the saving grace and earned a star on its own. I got the benedict, and it was cooked well and a perfect portion. It's a shame this place suffers due to slow service. I would definitely come back for the mimosas though. They have a huge patio area as well, so come during a cool spring day to enjoy it in all its glory!

Derek S.

Yelp
I retuned to this bar after realizing that I had been charged over $9 for a $5 happy hour beer. They of course claimed easy mistake, similar buttons, could happen to anyone. They did refund my money but were extremely aggressive about ejecting me from the bar. Not a good experience, I would avoid at all costs. Both for the risk of being overcharged and aggressive staff.
google avatar

Carol K.

Yelp
The food is here is honestly a joke. We ordered cheese fries assuming that they would be a platter like every place around serves. It was quite literally 10 fries and so tiny. Tasted microwaved. So disappointed.
google avatar

G R.

Yelp
We had tacos, queso & loaded fries on the late night menu... everything was awesome! The bartenders Ian talked us into the late night menu and he wasn't wrong.. these tacos are dang good! Steven, Ian, & Ben rocked the bar as our group sat and enjoyed food and drink. The skellig has staying power and this place is a Dallas jewel. If you haven't been- go. It's great!
google avatar

Meredith D.

Yelp
Hands down, The Skellig is one of my favorite spots in Dallas. It's a cozy pub with great drinks and their food is excellent. The cheeseboard might be my favorite in town because of the mini brats and honey mustard sauce... perfection. Super fun to try their seasonal hot drinks in the winter (tequila spiked mexican hot chocolate is incredible). The skellig is the sister bar of Old Monk, but with more seating and new outdoor fireplaces. They have great weeknight specials, tvs to watch a game, and something for everyone on their drink and food menus.
google avatar

Nat S.

Yelp
Decided to stop by since we found out they were also owned by the same people as The Old Monk. Definitely a different crowd than The Old Monk. I will say the food was good, but they didn't have two of the drinks we tried to order off the menu. The waitress was okay, but didn't check back very often. It honestly took a while for her to take our order, so we didn't know if we had to order at the bar or not. I would maybe come back for the food, but wouldn't go out of my way to come here

Alex D.

Yelp
Great spot, would definitely recommend anyone looking for a nice pub/sports bar to check it out. Great selection of beers and food. The old fashioned is fantastic and the whiskey cheddar double stack burger is a very proper burger! Taylor, one of the bartenders is the biggest sweetheart in the world and she was so thoughtful to write me a list of all the fun places to check out while visiting Dallas for a couple days. I was definitely impressed by this place, especially impressed by the quality of the staff, especially Taylor. Thanks for a good time!
google avatar

Nahiyan K.

Yelp
Definitely one of my favorite bars to get an early start to the weekend - Thursday night specials bring in a lot of people, and you can't go wrong with any of the cocktails on the list. The atmosphere is uniquely lively, but dark and moody at the same time. There's plenty of seating at the bar or at tables around the periphery, but patrons stand around and are pretty sociable. I wouldn't mind becoming a regular here!

Asha F.

Yelp
When we first moved to Dallas this was the most recommended bar we heard about. We came with high expectations, but I'd say it's pretty average. If you don't get there by about 10-10:30 the line gets pretty long, and I wouldn't say it's worth the 30+ minute wait. This place definitely has a college bar vibe, which wasn't really for me, but it delivers a pretty reliable experience every time. The drinks are strooong!
google avatar

Alexei R.

Yelp
The Skellig is an awesome chill and casual bar. I go there almost once a week and they have good Thursday specials on drinks. I have had their chicken tender basket and it is to die for. Something they do to their tenders that make them so crispy and good. They also have a great selection of beers.
google avatar

Yon P.

Yelp
Fish & Chips were ok paired with shoe string/skinny fries. Ordered the mini chicken avocado sandwiches as appetizers. Those were pretty good. Our bartender was cool and I like the fact the TVs were situated perfectly around the bar. It's definitely a place I'd go back to for the atmosphere and great beer choices. Lots of good beers on tap.
