I loved the fresh side dishes. The Mac& cheese is amazing so cheesy and the greens were delicious. My ribs tips were cooked to perfection (meaty) and the sauce was the right amount of sweet and spicy. I recommend getting it mixed. The service is a bit of a wait but well worth it so call ahead overall this place was a hit well worth it.

Slab’s food is good. The family that owns it works there and treats the customer like family. I love that they provide Pork alternatives because I don’t eat Pork. I love the Turkey tips and Turkey links. The 10 fried wings are good and cost about $15 which is much cheaper than Harold’s. The greens are cooked with smoked turkey and are very tasty and a favorite of mines. This is my neighborhood go to spot for take out.

I receive a great unexpected New Year's treat, it was a text from the slab for 20% off and I got a night off from cooking. The ribs and the hot link was fresh and delicious. Also the service was superb, I was placing my order and my phone connection was less than perfect but the order taker was very patient with me.

I hate doing things like this, especially when it comes to black businesses. This was the THIRD time this place has messed up an order of mine, and I ALWAYS show leniency simply because it’s black owned, but at this point the leniency has been taken for granted. I placed an order for 4 wings, with salt pepper, and mild on the side, also a turkey link and some greens (only got greens because the yams were a 30 min wait). They wrap the stuff up really good so when I get home I unwrap it to see sauce all over the chicken. I call and take it back, and they wanted to go back and forth about a refund, insisting that they can remake the chicken, while the other food gets cold for me to take home to warm up. “We usually don’t do refunds” said the tall guy at the counter… CLEARLY they usually don’t get orders right either because I’m fed up. Walking in the rain there and back to not be accommodated was not cool. Didn’t offer me a pop, a sample yams that I originally wanted, only to wait for another order. I think not. Took my money and dipped. Never again. It be your own people… I honestly feel like the 2 star rating is me being too nice I’m 100% dissatisfied. BRB going to warm up my hot link and fries…

I order a LARGE TURKEY TIP via Postmates and received pork….due to dietary restrictions, I do not eat pork. There’s absolutely nothing that could be done to fix this. I’m more ashamed because I took a bite without noticing and now I may get sick. Thanks A LOT!

This restaurant is a 'hidden gem' in the neighborhood on the eastside; maybe 200 steps west of Jeffery at 71st street, on the north side of the Metra tracks. I like how thin they slice the tips... "Large tip" is what I usually get. Also, it's plentiful. I was able to split my order in half and share it with my daughter and grandson. One thing that is very unique to this "Slab BBQ" location is the way they wrap the food in the paper tray with aluminum foil... carefully and neatly, wrapping it completely around the food to keep it from making a mess and greasing up the brown paper bag❣️ Also they put plenty of bbq sauce on all the tips and fries. Check it out! Friendly and courteous staff! Whachu way'n fuh? 😋 😋 😋 Oh yeah... I got a text 20% off any order until Jan 19, 2025.

The food is absolutely delicious! I highly recommend this establishment to anyone who loves barbecue rib tips as much as I do.

One thing they got very clean windows. The food is excellent smell good while it was cooking. Tasty exciting.!!!

The service was good, unfortunately the food was not to my liking. I had the wing tip combo. The meat was on the tough side and not seasoned very well. The chicken lacked flavor as well. The sauce was savory. The sauce was not my cup of tea either. The greens lacked flavor. I will Pass from now own, I tried twice.

food and service was great the greens will be on my next trip turkey based and cooked and seasoned to perfection ribs and chicken were very tasty... I should have gotten mild sauce the mix was spicy but in a good way I may go back and get ten orders of greens and fib and say they are mine at the next family bbq lol no dining... get your food and go but Im ok with that

The rib tips were old school flavored. IYKYK. Had the right amount of Smokey flavor to the meat ,crispy charred edges and tangy sauce !! Service was efficient and friendly. Ambiance is not what I usually look for in a neighborhood bbq joint but it was definitely in there . Plenty of smoke and hickory logs stacked in a corner, waiting to burn !!!

I ordered tips, wind and link combo thru Uber eats on Super Bowl Sunday.My delivery (Jerlon) was excellent and early. However l had some issues with some of my food. The tips were delicious, tender and the sauce complimented them well. The wings were good, but the links tasted on the verge of ......tainted, this is the second occasion I've tasted links like this here . I've ordered from " The Slab" many times and will continue to do so however quality is important

I came here after seeing this place on The Food Guy, NBC 5 by Steve Dolinsky. They are not near me but I wanted to buy 'local' and not just to a grocery store for the Super Bowl meal. I came in the Friday before, ordered the Full Slab St. Louis style, and headed out to Local Market to pick up a few things because I knew it would take a while. It's a very small place, not much overhead, where you order through a glass window. I do think the ribs and fries traveled well. We did not consume them til Sunday, and we put them in the Oven, not a microwave. I liked the sauce, I asked for mild, and it was smoky with hints of sweet. The meat was not super tender, or fall off the bone but I liked the texture: tangy, well seasoned, moist. I didn't get any food pictures, so sorry! I'd go back for some sides and maybe chicken. Good sides are just as important as good meat!

I just went for the first time, last week. I got the tips, link and chicken combo. Let me tell you, this was sooo damn good!! The sauce is amazing (I had mild), the tips were made perfect and tender, and the chicken was !! I plan to go back!! Hands down good!

Garbage. Hotlines were overcooked and SPOILED! The food was simply subpar. I ordered a large tip and we didn't even have any or many tips. The package was heavy, but heavy with nothing by Fries and sauce. After further investigation of the order we noticed that they put fries on the bottom lots of sauce and the sandwich a few tips in the middle and they put more fries on top sauce along with bread giving the allusion that we had more in the package than we did. The bill was $65 and we got garbage and less food than we ordered. Now speaking of the sauce, I ordered "MILD SAUCE" the sauce was HOT as HELL. And because they put so much on our food it was overwhelming and over powering to the point you couldn't taste nothing but sweet and hot. Overall a bad experience for $65.

OHHHHHH MYYYYYY GOODDDDNESS! Ok. Let me preface this saying that I have been ONLY getting Lem's since forever and thought that that was the only place for me! The store front is quite unsuspecting as it sits as a lone restaurant for BLOCKS! Ok let me get into it...so I was sitting at my mom's house (who still lives in Chicago of course) and I told her that I wanted Lem's for dinner. She told me that the day that I requested it Lem's was closed but I need to try this place on 71st Street called The Slab! Well, me being in the Lem's snob that I "WAS"; I second guessed her suggestion. Let me say just say that I am so happy that she suggested The Slab! The rib tips were tender, flavorful and just...DELICIOUS! That sauce THOOOOUGH! Oh my goodness THE SAUCE! Divine! Just know to get extra sauce!! The hot linnnnks? Yep, those were bomb too! The ONLY minuscule issue that I had was their french fries were dry. They weren't BAD. Just not for me. But my Dear, I wasn't there for the french fries. I was there for the rib tips and they did not disappoint. Do yourself a favor and get over to The Slab and get you some lip smacking good rib tips.Yum!!

My food was ready when I arrived, and still hot by the time I got home. The rib tips were perfectly cooked. Highly recommended. I wanted i57 the day I ordered here, but it was out of the way. This place had been popping up and I'm so happy i was able to try them. My new favorite rib shack.

Very tender and delicious. The baked beans and coleslaw are just as delicious. Rib Tips, and turkey tips are great as well.

Spent over $100 on items for my family to discover not one but TWO very long gray strands of hair in the coleslaw.... The food was ok. Nothing special. The beef hot link was just ok. One the links skin burst so it was all black and dry lookin. Who serves that to someone...? The ribs and rip tips are decent without the sauce. The Mac & cheese was decent. Needs more cheese. The greens were tasty. The fries were good. Tried the mild bbq sauce. If you like a sweet tasting sauce it's good also. Potato salad is decent also. I will probably add some mustard to it. The baked beans are standard.

I love this place! The staff is very friendly and if you have questions they are helpful and provide good recommendations. The ribs are tender and I really enjoy the sauce. It's just enough for the ribs and fries with a good taste that's not overpowering. The sides are just as good - the greens have a nice seasoning that gives a good flavor. My 92 year old mother loves the Mac and Cheese! I have to get some at least once a month. If she had her way, it would be every week. I definitely recommend The Slab!

The BBQ is fresh, tasty and well prepared. I recommend that you try the tips with or without sauce, you can't lose. My goto BBQ joint!

The ribs are consistently tender and flavorful. I also got the baked beans and the turkey which was very tasty.

Absolutely phenomenal!!! The young lady that worked there (the chocolate chick) packed our food with such detail that I knew it was valuable.... and beh beh (New Orleans accent) when I tell you the food was hittingggggg!!!! We ordered two slabs of ribs, half barbecued chicken with fries and mild sauce, family sized Mac and cheese(), family sized greens, yams , and family sized cole slaw all for $110. Talk about bang for your buck!! Have recommended it to so many people already and will definitely return next trip to Chicago!!!

I'ma keep this one short. 2.75 stars - Skip the mac and cheese. They need to revisit this recipe. Actually. ..find a new recipe all together. - Chicken is seasoned nicely, but soggy - Tips were tender, but I strongly suggest getting the sauce on the side. Not my favorite. The Slab has potential, but needs to work out a few kinks.

I have terrible heartburn from the grease. It's 1:00 am and I'm awake with heartburn. Got rib tips from The Slab this evening. They were tough and were swimming in GREASY SAUCE. Time for me to give up on ribs. If you pay with a credit card the machine shames you into giving a tip. It says NO TIP , 25% tip, etc as the lady stands there looking at you. I gave a 25% tip for ribs that are keeping me awake. The rib tips were on the bottom and the fries and bread were on top. I think the fries should be on the bottom like most rib places have them. Doesn't matter cause the grease at this place is causing me to give up eating ribs forever. I can't recommend The Slab cause I am doubled over in pain.

Ordered large rib tip with beans and cold slaw and I received tough rib tips with greens and potato salad at 4pm before the so called rush won't go back fora while they also cut the tips different

BBQ is very good! The tips were nice and tender. They forgot my sauce, but the meat was flavorful enough.

I have gone there 3 times and each time the food was not good. The last time the meat ( hot links) were spoiled: smelled bad. The ribs were not freshly cut for me. They appeared to have been cut apart and set aside for a while. 3 strokes and you are out. This restaurant is the worse!!!

So good they are Black owned I believe but I like The Rib tips and they fries was Bussing and the sauce is A1 most Of All the smell when you go inside I will be back

The food here is really good!! The food was hot, fresh, and very tasty. We ordered rib tips, chicken wings, barbecue chicken, and turkey tips . We ordered the rib tips with the sauce on the side. They did not diappoint. Now you know rib tips are good when they don't need sauce on them!! This is a spot I will definitely visit again.

When I tell you I was pissed waited an hour or hour and a half for my order which was a large turkey tip and turkey sausage for them to give my order to some one else than tell me there wasn't any more turkey tips I had been coimg to the slap a few months prior to this stop cause I got some turkey tips that was not rite so I said maybe it was just me so today I decided to go try again and this happened not again all they can tell you is im sorry but I wasted my time sitting up here in this hot place for im sorry not again I was pissed people was asking for a refund cause it was a mad house I understand it's the4th but you should be prepared for this I wasn't the only one hope the two elderly behind me they got taking care they won't a star to finish you get no stars

There are no tables, just a big bench to sit on while you wait for them to prepare your order behind bulletproof glass, as while as some piles of firewood for your toddler to play on if need be (don't judge). You'll need that bench, because it's not fast, and the results are precariously packaged, so when you schlep them out to your car to scarf them down, you'll probably make a mess (bring a towel). But these ribs are legit. They are meaty and tender enough without being mushy, and they taste strongly of delicious wood smoke. The best ribs I have had in a while, and certainly the best ones within ten minutes of my house. Worth the trip.

To my surprise they were open and ready to take my order on a Monday afternoon. Too many businesses have reduced business hours since the pandemic, so this was a welcomed surprise. I ordered Turkey tips, turkey link sandwich, 2 slices of boozy rum cake. Upgraded my order with 4 additional sides of greens, Mac and cheese, pasta salad, and yams. The lady who took my order was nice and very helpful, and most deserving of a larger tip. Got home and found baked beans instead of greens. No prob because they were tasty. Maybe I should have just ordered a tip-link combo instead, but when tummy's talking who's rational? That Boozy rum cake?... Baby, bye. I'll be back for some more for sure. Watch out Brown Sugar.

I've tried this place a few times and have never had a good meal. Each time I've ordered the The St. Louis ribs and each time they have been dry, overcooked, and tough. Could it be that they go in the microwave? I don't know. I've always ordered online, so maybe you have to show up in person, place your order and wait in order to get good ribs? I don't know. Also, I've never tried any of the other meats, so I can't speak to them. But, as for the ribs, It's almost as if the people doing the cooking have no idea how to prepare them or what good ribs should actually taste like.

Last night the wife and I went to "SLAB BBQ" on 71st Street and was very disappointed in the BBQ that we received. We each had an order of small link and tip combo. When we got home and began eating, we had to stop because the tips were very small and very tough to eat. The pork links were even tougher than the tips. And to top it off, they were over cooked. I do have to admit that we have been there before and was very satisfied with our food. This restaurant needs to be sure to have consistency with there food.

12.14.18: I got slab. It was about 13 small/average size bones. Meat had great taste, but HOT sauce was too hot & thick. I'll try MILD next time. UPDATE: I tasted my friend's rib tips with no sauce. Great smoked taste. I need to visit again and explore more of menu.

Normally I go for lunch I decided to go for dinner. The cashier with the black rim glasses was very unprofessional. I always prefer center cut pieces she said they don't do that, now when I go for lunch it's an extra $4 that's fine, she ended up charging me $2 those pieces were so thin with a ton of fries on top I couldn't even get to the meat. When I did get to the meat they were very small with barely meat let alone a grissol . I over heard her mention no cole slaw so I asked her you all don't have any slaw she stated with an attitude "it's just a small portion size we give with the order, ok and I like that small portion size. I normally give good reviews about this joint but who ever cut that tip up did a terrible job I would never go for dinner I'm sticking to lunch if I decide to return!!!

My very first time trying this place, I ordered the jumbo rib tips and they were burned, I asked for the sauce on the side. I can't see how they would even sell this to a customer. I'm highly disappointed if I was close I would take the food back and ask for a refund.

Finally!!!! Yeeeeees!!!! I was in Chicago unexpectedly yesterday & thought about Slabs Bbq, since I was so close I had to try them. Soooo satisfied, I ordered the turkey tips & to top it off it came with Fresh cut fries. Oh, let me tell you the hot is really hot but so good & tender. I'm not sure when I will be back in Chicago but I'm already looking forward to more of those turkey tips & maybe try some wings. I live in the south suburbs , so I will make that trip. Oh, I forgot to take pics of the food, I was too hungry.

This is my go to place for ribs. Tender and juicy and seasoned just right for me. I always ask for sauce on side as I like my own sauce. Fries are great as are greens. I haven't tried other sides. Service is excellent. I had a problem once and they made it right. Things happen, but if restaurant makes it right, I'll go baCk. I think it's only fair to bring it to management's attention rather than go off and badmouth place. One problem is getting them on phone during busy periods.

Good day... the only reason why I gave this restaurant one star is because the lady that took my order was pleasant. But this food is horrible!!!! Almost $80 wasted on garbage. I do not recommend. I live in Rantoul, Ill., and saw this restaurant on the Channel 5 Chicago news. It looked good so I made a mental note to go to this restaurant the next time I visited my family in Chicago. I should've stuck to my usual; I57.

I wouldn't go in there. They messed up my order on the night of the super bowl. Literally told the girl twice my order. I also tried calling and no one picked up and when we went in, people were picking up food from call in. I will never go in there again!

Waited TWO HOURS after ordering delivery and NEVER got my food. Called the restaurant 13 times after they charged me for food that never came and no one picked up (of course). The one time I did get ahold of someone THEY HUNG UP ON ME AFTER PAYING $50 FOR FOOD I DIDNT GET. The most unprofessional experience I've literally ever had in my whole life!!!!! STAY AWAY from here!!!! They will take your money and ghost you!! I've never had anything like this happen to me. To outright IGNORE someone after you've taken their money and not provided the promised service is insane! I will be calling my bank to get the charge dropped seeing as I'm never going to receive my meal TWO HOURS LATER!!

Decided to visit this place while visiting Chicago. I live in Houston so I love a good BBQ. Although this isn't a dine in restaurant, the decor was decent. What wasn't, was the customer service. Deplorable would be an understatement. The staff was very loud and inattentive. I had to wait for the cashier to finish his conversation to even be addressed. He gave me a can of soda with no straw and when I asked for one, he could not even hear me over the jabbering of the other staff. To make matters worse, on my way out, I asked for ketchup and hot sauce ( I'm staying in a hotel) And I was told, " we don't sell ketchup or hot sauce". For all the lack of service, I assumed that at least the food would be on point. I was wrong. My wings, fries and tips were drenched in awful tasting bbq sauce. U literally could not tell the difference in taste of any three items. I spent a whopping $17 for a meal I was barely able to eat a quarter of. Needless to say, I won't be going back and certainly wouldn't recommend.

Very disgusting. I grew up in my neighborhood all of my life and I'm still over here. I remember the first day they opened up. I seen them give church plenty of heavy food and filled it up and make sure they ate very good because they donated to they business and gave me and my peoples little portions of every goddamn thing I haven't been back since.. I work at five star restaurants on Gold Coast first impression is everything to me

Burnt and overcooked again. More fries than meat ? Last night we ordered 1-large tip & chicken combo, 1-large link & chicken combo for over $40. in the hood to be AGAIN disappointed after not ordering over a month. We burned gas and waited for THIS ?

The place is next door to my hair salon & I dropped in for lunch. The prices! Whew chile. Lord the prices are OUTRAGEOUS! I ordered a tip & link combo with mild sauce. It took maybe 10mins to get my order. I ate it in my car and my food was hot, and packaged well. Looks like a decent portion, but not decent enough for it to have been $15. I think that's absurd for a funky ass tip & link combo! But that's just my opinion. Food was good. Sauce was nasty and too much of it. I should've gotten it no sauce! Service was ok too. Would I come back? I doubt it!

The combination was great tips, wings and turkey link. Mac and cheese very good.link hot has hell to hot for senior. Will come back

I ordered 2 tip & wing combos for delivery with Uber Eats. One order was ok. The other was completely charred. Inedible. Because it was delivered, it was over $50 for tax, delivery, and tip. I am super disgusted. Too bad. This place is really close to my house, but I will NEVER give them my business again.

Fantastic food all around...Just be sure to remember to come up for air!! 4/5 Stars because nobody is perfect...but they come pretty darn close. Enjoy!

I REALLY WANTED TO LIKE THIS PLACE... PASS! 1st Impressions are IMPORTANT! So let me preface this with this, my favorite BBQ places right now locally are LEM's (southside) and SMOQUE (northside), Big Ed's BBQ (Waukegan). All of the aforementioned are distinctively different styles, yet CONSISTENTLY wonderful. 1.) So let's cut to the chase, ordered a LARGE tip (small, large and jumbo), the ribs tasted like they were boiled first and only had a hint of smoky flavor on them inspite of them in the pit, for whatever reason. 2.) The handcut fries, personally, handcut fries are good, but I personally don't think it works as a "bed" for the bbq. Otherwise, they were pretty basic, can't really mess up handcut fries. 3.) The sauce - Sauce was delicious 4.) Meat getting cut - So, they had a really tall young man working with these special weird looking eye glasses, I'm just going to go out on a limb and assume he's probably related to the owner(s), but regardless, couldn't cut meat. The tips were not EVEN and in my humble opinion, for a LARGE tip, I should've gotten MORE meat. There was more FRIES on my basket then actual MEAT! The tips weren't cut evenly. At any rate. the presentation was not the best. Final Thoughts: It was midday, about 1PM during the weekday and there was a line, in spite of about 5-6 people in the back. I believe they need to take the time to invest in PREPARATION. I watched 2-3 people walk away after a tall older man in a baseball cap tell people that they're out of st louis style ribs and that the wait would be another 45-60 minutes. I watched a postal worker walkout angrily after it took 60 minutes for her food to get ready. That is unacceptable. I think this place has a lot of potential, but they're not reaching high enough. I'll share my thoughts as to the contrasting differences of my prefaced preferred restaurants and why they remain superior. In short, CONSISTENCY...Anytime I walk into LEM's which has a much smaller waiting area, I've NEVER waited more than 10 minutes for food, any food, PERIOD! No matter what day or time. NEVER. The FLAVOR of their ribs (small end, large end, tips, links, etc. ALL taste FULL of flavor, the ribs really don't need any sauce, but the sauce makes it better! They're also VERY liberal with their portions and sauce. They also cut their tips relatively evenly, same with their slabs. There's also only SMALL and LARGE tip, no 3-4 different options. BOTH are plentiful. I ordered a LARGE tip and didn't feel like I had enough. A small tip for LEM's is practically an entire slab, a Large is TWO! The meat literally falling off and over the tray basket. Smoque and Big Ed's, basically competition level smoked meat that's delivered at a fast pace with an assembly line type of order! I believe their consistency in service and food delivery also is synonymous with their food quality in regards to taste as well as their side items. I spoke with a young lady while waiting in line at SLAB who seems to be a repeat customer regarding their sides, which she said were pretty mediocre. This was disappointing. Bottom line, I think this place has a chance but they got to get a system down and get their consistency up. I'll be back in a few months, hopefully, things will change. However, if you're reading this and you're on the fence and you don't want to take a $15 chance on a large tip like I did, just go to LEM's.

I heard about Slabs on the news, so I decided to check them out. When I got there the place was packed, which I figured was indicative of good food. I ordered a full slab, rib tip and link combo, potato salad, cole slaw and baked beans. I got there at 5:30 and didn't get my food until 7pm. I'm all about good food but customer service is import ant as well. After waiting about 50 minutes the young lady came out and asked me what did I order. I told her what my order was and she said it was going to be another 15 minutes. Needless to say it was another 40. Once I got home and opened the bag my order was wrong. Instead of the ribtip and hotlink combo they gave me the ribtips and chicken combo. The food was ok but not worth an hour and a half wait! I hope that they put more effort into customer service. I don't think that I will be back but i wish them the best.
