The 33 Best Rio de Janeiro Restaurants - Eater

"The acclaimed, naturally fermented bread is available wholesale, but you should go straight to the source at the Slow Bakery. The airy space, in the residential Botafogo neighborhood, is the perfect place to enjoy freshly baked sourdough loaves, ciabatta, and baguettes. They also serve a menu of sandwiches, tartines (try the one with goat cheese and roasted tomatoes), coffee, and much more. The bakery also has two other branches in the city: one with a more industrial vibe in Jardim Botânico and a cozy location in Leblon." - Rafael Tonon, Taylor Barnes

I wanted to go to a nice cafe in São Paulo and here I found :) Their pao de quejio & pulled pork sandwich was so delicious! I love the ambient of this cafe very much, spacious, high ceiling and lots of greens. I’d def come back next time I visit São Paulo!

Wide selection of yummy baked goods! Recommend Went in a Sunday for brunch. Immediately brought inside to a waiting area and then seated at a table for 3 in about 5 minutes. Ordered Eggs Benedict (served on great brioche), Croque Madame (decent, not the absolute best I’ve had), PBJ served on sourdough and toasted (probably the best) and a cold brew, and Vietnamese coffee (too sweet, coffee not bitter enough). Service was efficient, staff spoke enough English to communicate. Prices are reasonable by US standards ($30 for everything, about 200 reals) Would recommend for brunch!

Wonderful little bakery an easy and safe walk from the local train station. Firstly the inviting smell once inside and friendly service, including English friendly. I had the croque and it was sensational, is this the best I've had 🤔 I'd say a resounding yes! The sourness if the bread is spot on, the ham is the right kind without the strong flavour and paired with the right amount of cheese. The coffee is quite good as well, good standard flavour from Brazilian coffee.

The place was quite busy on a Sunday, which made me think it was a popular spot. However, the quality didn’t live up to the hype. The flat white wasn’t properly prepared and seemed to be made with low-quality beans. The food was underwhelming—the eggs with tomatoes were bland and lacked seasoning, and the yogurt with jam was plain and unremarkable. However the bread was really good! Given the high prices, the overall offering feels disappointing. On top of that, the cleanliness of the place could definitely be improved.

Best brunch we had in Rio. The place is great with lots of spots to sit. The dishes are great, coffee is good as well. Nice bakery/restaurant. The place was mostly local people. Will definitely come back next time I’m in Rio.

Beautiful, large, spacious setting. Good service. Coffee was excellent. Food was delicious. Our favorites were the yogurt with jam, tomato ricotta terrine, croque monsieur. Can skip the cinnamon roll.

What a gem. I wanted to check out Botafago before heading to the Sugarloaf cable cars and am so glad I found The Slow Bakery. It's got a cool warehouse vibe and the food and coffee is delicious. I had a coffee with milk and a chicken sandwich on focaccia (recommended to me by my server) and even though nothing about it is particularly Brazilian, it might be my favorite thing I've eaten on my trip. Definitely worth a visit!

Great place for branching and being productive! The vibes here are immaculate, staff friendly and food is freshly made and always hits the spot. Highly recommend the tartine da Horta for a veggie option and the smoothie, Indiana lemonade and cold brew are incredible!
