"A proper British gastropub at its core, this clever restaurant’s menu is a study in English rule with fish ‘n’ chips and mushy peas sidled up with Indian-inspired butter chicken and lamb vindaloo on the daily offerings. For brunch, a full English breakfast and red velvet waffles make an appearance. An impressive indoor display of tap handles from all over the world hang from the ceiling above the bar, extending the awe-dropping exhibit to the extensive list of regional craft brews and British beers." - Nikki Miller-Ka

Went to The Sly Fox for the first time tonight with some friends and I have zero complaints! The appetizers and main dishes were delicious. Kids meals were also yummy and priced really reasonably. The staff and our server, James, were incredibly friendly and attentive. We were welcomed and accommodated even though we had a larger party - though I would recommend making a reservation if you have more than 4 people. Family-friendly or a great place to meet up with friends. We will definitely be back!

I love the comfy chair section. Great food! Good spirits! Order the Pimm’s Cup… thank me later lol. Sausage rolls, salmon and clam chowder soup is a must! oh and the bread pudding is amazing!!! definitely will be back!

Great selection of beers we shared a Cobb salad which is perfectly prepared. My shepherd’s pie is one of the best I’ve tasted. The shrimp and grits however were so salty we had to send it back. Second one was less so but still quite salty. The shrimp and mushrooms were however perfectly cooked and the sauce very flavorful. We just don’t understand why the grits is so salty. The bread pudding is also great. I have to nit pick a bit as the serving size of the puddy is very generous but the scoop of ice cream is on the skinny side. Service is excellent by the way.

A friend and I went for an early dinner and we had no wait time for seating. We ordered the sausage balls and the fish and chips. The sausage balls I very highly recommend. The best way I can describe them is the perfect mix of a croissant and a burger; I'd eat an entire plate of them alone; especially with the sauce they come with. But the fish and chips was also fantastic and good portions for the price. We finished up with desserts and couldn't be happier with both the excellent ganache-style chocolate cake and the apple streusel. I look forward to visiting again and trying more options.

I’ve lived or traveled all over the world. I’m known for visiting different countries just to eat. The Shepherd’s Pie at The Sly Fox Gastropub in Southern Pines, North Carolina is the best I’ve had to date. Their service is a close second. If you’re going to eat anywhere in this part of the country, go here. You’ll thank me later.

Pub burger, Mac & Cheese, and side salad with white balsamic dressing was so good! Beautiful outdoor seating space. Flourless chocolate cake yummy but very small slice.

Google
In summary- great food, great drinks (and great selections of them!), and great service. Sausage rolls - really good. Definitely get this if you're in the mood for a savory & sweet appetizer. Fish n chips - really good, similar to what I had in England. Wedge salad - nothing "unique," but a solid and tasty salad. Recommend if you want a salad. Ambience - sit in the lounge chairs if you can - they're comfy. Not too loud, a relaxing atmosphere. James, our servers was great. Super nice and courteous. Ask for him if you're going on a date. We mentioned that we were on our date night, and he gave us space and was conscientious about not rushing us. Definitely get the "pub food" here!

I've worked in the area for almost 2 years, and today was the first time that we went to The Sly Fox. We had a reservation, and we're promptly seated. I listen to and support all things Iron Maiden, so when I found out they have Trooper beer, I had to get it. Just that alone is worth a 5 star review for me. We started with the charcuterie board and quickly devoured it. All of it. The bread was slightly salted and crispy, and the cheese and meat were great compliments. I ordered the Sheppard's pie. It was thick and rich, great flavor. We also got the chicken and waffles. We split it up. The chicken was crispy and had great flavor by itself. The waffle was very crispy and was not overly sweet. Very nice. We got a side of Brussel sprouts and ate them all. Freaking good, the bacon and sauce, yum...our server was Jeff. He was very helpful and made sure we were taken care of.

Yelp
We stopped for a few cocktails. The drinks were mixed well and there was a nice selection of beer to choose from. The bartender was very pleasant and efficient. He made a few recommendations on the beer and wine selections which were on point. We ordered some figs wrapped in bacon which were good. The atmosphere was pleasant with the bar as the focal point. There is seating throughout with a back room and outside seating as well. We will stop back again and try a few things on the menu.

Yelp
At night, the parking lot is super dark. There isn't a lot of parking spaces. I can't imagine the parking lot if more people were in attendance. The back room in the restaurant was perfect for larger groups. We sat down right away as some of our party was already there. It was about 20 of us. They sat us at two large tables so it was a bummer that we couldn't really connect with the second half of our group. The decor in the restaurant is good. There are nice cozy sections within the restaurant to sit and chat with your party. The bar area looked unique. The service was very odd, which caused a weird vibe, because it was not orderly. It seemed more chaotic than it should have been. I asked for unsweet tea. I took a sip of my drink...yep sweet tea. I informed her of the mistake. She never brought the unsweet tea. I finally had to flag her down to get my drink. It took forever to place our order and to receive it. The other table in our group ordered and had their food well before us. One of our party asked for sweet tea. You know exactly where I'm going. She gave him the sweet tea I rejected. I didn't notice it, but someone in our party did. He had to ask for a fresh tea. The other table had eaten well before us so they had to leave. We were there probably 30 more minutes. I ordered a ribeye. It was good. Very thick, tender and had enough flavor. I didn't care for the potatoes. The texture was off. The Brussels sprouts were ok. Of course I never got a refill in my drink, because of the delay I didn't want to order anything else. We had a mishap at our table that required the manager to come. He was polite. They discounted our meal for the inconvenience. I believe if I come back, it will be strictly for drinks.

Yelp
Nicely decorated and friendly service - and their food is 5 star!! Excellent selection of beverages - delicious appetizers. Great location and plenty of parking.

Yelp
Another spot on perfectly cooked pork chop! Chef Tru is truly aaammmaaazing! If you find yourself nearby check out the shrimp and grits and bread pudding! Even if you aren't close, this pub is worth the drive!

Yelp
First time visiting and it was for the Easter brunch buffet. I made the reservation nearly three weeks in advance, driving over an hour to get there, only to find out when we arrived we weren't on the list. I thought something might be up when I didn't get a confirmation call a few days in advance, but not knowing their protocol, I trusted it would be ok. Wrong. All the owner kept saying is, you're not on the list. Not an apology or gee, I don't know what happened. No, just, you're not in the list. It's like he wanted us to just leave. I offered to show him on my phone log when I called for the reservation and told him how far we drove. He said he'd see what he could do. Long story short, we got a small table for two where the seating was low living room arm chairs. I was able to get a more regular chair as I have back problems, but my spouse was stuck with the other seat as described. We thought, well, let's put this behind us and just enjoy the meal which sounded great online. Our waitress was cheerful and wonderful. Really just a pleasure and checked on us frequently. No issues there at all. The restaurant inside is nicely decorated with everything British. My friend in the UK even looked at their website and said it looked like a "proper British pub" and wanted me to give her a full report. So on to the buffet. We were so hopeful with such an array of choices. All of the meat was cool to cold. The lamb and prime rib had very little flavor, the glaze on the ham tasted like ashes. The mashed potatoes were very good tho. Yay for the potatoes! And so was the tomato soup. The young man at the omelet station was very kind and accommodating when I asked for as small an omelet as he could make and it was tasty. I tried an egg benedict and the egg was not runny at all and I couldn't cut thru the English muffin it was so hard. That was also the case with the waffle wedge so both went uneaten. Overall not the greatest experience and at $40 a head it was hard to swallow. My suggestion to the owner, if you're the only one who's going to accept reservations for an event like this inform your staff so diners aren't surprised when their reservation is nonexistent. Between that and the lackluster food I doubt that we would ever would return, which is too bad cos we were really looking forward to it!

Lindsey F.

Yelp
The building and decor are super cute. The staff was attentive and got all our orders correct. The food was so-so. I had the French onion soup... it was sweet, so not my favorite. There are not very many dressings to choose from for a salad. We also got the 'no name beef' dish which was very good, the meat was tender and the sauce had good flavor.

Nick H.

Yelp
I have to voice my frustration with this place. We normally frequently here for dinner but we tried their brunch menu on St Patty's Day. My husband and I ordered drinks and two menu items per person. The service was slow, waited 15 minutes for a mimosa and bloody Mary. We ordered French toast and a waffle. It was two pieces of sandwich bread for $18 and a smashed waffle for $20. It was same quality you would expect from the Best Western. Then we had poutin and some other egg dish, absolutely sub par. We will not be returning.

Michael D.

Yelp
The atmosphere is great. After that however on several visits the food and service just don't hold up. Definitely won't be a first choice.

Jimmy R.

Yelp
I had a great experience. This could be a casual dinner or a fancy date! The food was so good I wish I had another stomach. The service was prompt, professional, and friendly. The server knew the menu well and suggested great food.

Jason I.

Yelp
Lunch was delicious! We decided to come here because Eliot's on Linden is our all time favorite restaurant and we heard that it's owned by the same man. It was a great environment, good food, good service, and great prices. We will absolutely be coming back.

Heidi L.

Yelp
Went here for linner. Yes. Lunch/dinner. Bartender was fun and attentive. Had the Reuben spring rolls to start. Super fantastic dish. Then I had the chicken pot pie and my husband had the lamb burger. Both were super tasty! Their Paloma was the best I ever had. Nice beer selection. Atmosphere is definitely English vibe- love the glasses they serve as they make you feel like your in a pub in England. Trying their Sunday brunch next.

Wayne A.

Yelp
We came here because of a recommendation from a store owner where we were shopping while in town. The food did not disappoint. We had the pub burger and it was great.

Charles S.

Yelp
I don't recommend the shepherds pie. It was the consistency of stew with mashed potatoes on it. Did not have cheese on it.

Tina H.

Yelp
Parking is a premium. The share a lot with a salon send a brewery. It's truly a pub atmosphere. Many different settings from traditional seating, to a bar area, and then a room with nice chairs around tables. The server had just returned from college so she was unsure about some menu items. We had the devils on horseback and the sausage pastries for appetizers. My husband had the beef cheeks, I had the salmon. Both were good, but his was so flavorful. I added the Mac n cheese, but it wasn't that good. For dessert I had the gingerbread cheesecake. More like lumpy cream cheese with whipped topping on a crust. Not that flavorful. The Mac n cheese and dessert kept it to a 4 versus 5.

Allison D.

Yelp
Hadn't been in a while because just wasn't enjoying the heavily British fare. Tonight was fabulous. Great service and no matter what, the ambiance can't be beat! Love the decor and just overall casual vibe! Highly recommend! Brussels sprouts are to die for!!

meghan a.

Yelp
Great service! And the People are very nice! Unfortunately the food is so awful for the price. We ordered the sausage rolls and got two hotdogs in a croissant. We laughed at the fact that we paid $10 for two pigs in a blanket. The Shepard pie was not great. We didn't really eat it.

Tim W.

Yelp
We went there tonight and waited for a long time for the hostess to have a long conversation with a potential customer (not standing there!). Finally, another person (server or manager) showed up and started seating another group that arrived after us...while we were waiting for the hostess to finish her long conversation on the phone. This second person asked if we had a reservation and I said: "no, do I need one?" She said in a condescending tone: "well, on nights like this you should.... There were many open tables. We just left. Poor service.

DR Food A.

Yelp
Good service, food was amazing , price was affordable too. Plenty parking and nice atmosphere. Definitely I'll recommend it.

Zoe C.

Yelp
The food was awesome! We had the scotch egg appetizer which was a new thing for me and I absolutely loved it! Service was very nice and attentive. The decor in there was so cozy and perfect for a rainy Christmas day. The only downside is that from the seats in the main bar area you can very clearly see the harshly lit yet clean kitchen. Its a huge eyesore and I understand the appeal of being able to see a clean kitchen but its not worth ruining the whole soft cozy vibe

C B.

Yelp
Service was ok. Nothing memorable but not awful. The food was absolutely awful. I'm not sure how this is a "British pub" without quality British food. I suppose if you're a local retiree with diminished taste buds it's passable... The chairs feel disgustingly worn out. There's dust everywhere so several of us were coughing. Overheard the owner or manager arguing loudly on his phone in front of customers, so I guess we had dinner and a show. Would not return and will certainly not recommend.

Miranda D.

Yelp
We didn't have a good experience. Our server was great but lacked confidence seemingly from rude management and unwarranted negative feedback. Overall the experience and food was average at best. We asked to be seated outside on the patio since it was a nice day and we had a rambunctious toddler with us, but we're told it wasn't possible. I guess they just weren't seating anyone outside? Why have a great patio and not utilize it? This place really seems to have gone downhill the past few years.

John S.

Yelp
Enjoyed both the food and the atmosphere. It was shepard's pie this time around and picked up some English candy. Have stopped in a couple of times thus far and will be sure to again.

A R.

Yelp
This place doesn't disappoint! I have visited the area a couple times this year for some events in Raeford. I have stopped by this pub 3-4 times and can't come to the area and not eat here. The service has always been fabulous!! The staff has been attentive and polite no matter what time I've dined. The food has been great no matter what I've tried!! Reminds me of my food experiences in England. The atmosphere is very cute! They have the best pub vibe!! Definitely stop by if you are in the area!!

Patrice Z.

Yelp
Cool eclectic pub. 6 different rooms inside, and two outdoors spaces. Each room is different and has its own theme. A nice ode to British pubs. Had a lovely lunch here. Burger and sausage rolls were delicious! Bathrooms were clean, staff friendly. I sat at a table with couch seats. Would come here again. Easy to find and easy parking.

Craig H.

Yelp
Gruyère Burger is probably the best burger I have ever had. It's incredible. Also nice location across from Red's Corner if you want to walk over and grab a beer after dinner

Brenda H.

Yelp
What a super experience I had this afternoon at The Sly Fox. The decor and vibe are cool and the bartenders (Adam and Selly) were as friendly as can be. I ordered the Butter Chicken dish and it was delicious. I also had the Festival Express IPA on tap and that too was quite good. I will definitely be returning to have a meal and a beer in this warm and inviting atmosphere.

Stephanie J.

Yelp
We were looking for a dining option in Southern Pines and decided on The Sly Fox. Unfortunately we did not feel welcomed when we first entered because of the hostess so that was unfortunate. I started off with a beer and my husband and I split the devils on horseback (bacon wrapped dates, yum) for an appetizer. For our meals we chose to split the chicken pot pie and butter chicken. The service and food were both just okay. If you are wanting British Gastropub vibes, check this spot out.

KA R.

Yelp
Cocktails are amazing with a touch only a skilled bartender could master. The salmon was heavy on the salt and was a bit disappointing when the appetizers came out strong. A very diverse menu and would come back if we move to the area. Keith was a great server so you might ask for his table.

Dakota M.

Yelp
Bottom Line: Unless you're a local or regular, expect sub-par servic and average overpriced food. Came with a party of four for lunch. Showed up and asked to sit in the back and play cards. Got drinks, our first server was awesome. Got checked on once and the meal came out for three of us and then 30 mins later my wife got her food. It was a cookie sheet with lettuce, chicken, pickled onions and croutons for $18. No one checked in on us until we asked for the check. The couple behind us had servers check in on them every 10 mins or so. Looks like the chef came out and asked them specifically if they wanted sauce for their food. I guess you need to be a regular to get good service

Elizabeth J.

Yelp
I was really excited to try this place and I was very disappointed. The service was really the worst part of the whole experience. My Family and I arrived around shift change I guess and we were sat, well kinda. All the tables were dirty but it was dead inside so I'm not sure why nobody was clearing tables so we had to awkwardly stand in the middle of the restaurant until they got it cleared. The servers were openly arguing about how they were ready to leave and who had to take the table. We were sitting for 10 minutes before our drink order was taken and all of the servers were standing and staring and bickering about who was gonna take us. The server took our food order and was just overall clearly not in a good mood. He left and it took 20ish minutes for the food to come, he dropped it off and then left and didn't come back to check on us at all until we were very clearly done with our food. The food was okay. I didn't like the fish and chips and for a British themed restaurant it was a little disappointing. Overall I wouldn't really recommend unless the dinner time staff is more pleasant. It may have just been a bad day but I don't think I'll be back.

Richard W.

Yelp
Visiting from Florida. Jeff & team run a very professional and friendly restaurant that provides fantastic food choices as well as trained, polite and attentive staff. Would highly recommend this restaurant Ada highlight of Southern Pines. Look forward to returning. You will not be disappointed!

Nancy L.

Yelp
The food is always delicious and the staff is great! Super cute outdoor area! Very British pub!

Kim M.

Yelp
We order the sausage rolls expecting sausage not mini hot dogs. Price $10 for 2 mini hot dogs. The place was freezing cold. The caprese salad had 3 tomatoes. These were apps. Imagine having more people in our group?! Food wasn't good. Service was good but she really didn't want to deal with anyone. The other server was super loud and annoying. I would not go back!

Lisa D.

Yelp
Amazing!!! r r he bread pudding made by miiss Brianna the best I've ever had and the shrimp and grits out of this world! I was so happy and impressed with the service and the vibe was lovely

Alexa S.

Yelp
This is such a fun and unique spot! I've been here a few times since moving to the area and I am never disappointed. The Reuben egg rolls are *chefs kiss*! And the Gouda mac & cheese side! Yummmm

Daniel B.

Yelp
This place is the coolest pub inside and outside. You feel like you are right in the middle of England or Ireland. This place has all the staples from Shepard's pie to Bangers and Mash. The dishes had as much character as the building and decorations. The food was incredible and this place is for sure in our top 10. If you are in the area this is a must stop for a pint and some food. FISH & CHIPS- a classic! golden fried cod over our triple cooked fries and mushy peas THE SHEPERD'S PIE- ground lamb simmered in herbs, red wine and topped with smashed potatoes. BLTE- bacon, lettuce, tomato, white cheddar, mayo, & a sunny side up egg ITALIAN PANINI- salami, capicola, pepperoni, ham, mozzarella, roasted red pepper aioli, shaved red onion, oven roasted tomatoes, baby arugula

Norm A.

Yelp
Came in twice for late lunch recently, really wanted to enjoy this pub but so disappointed. If you can't get fish & chips right you've got a problem! It should be the signature dish. Looks like freezer burned frozen fish paddies from Walmart! Fries were terrible, like they'd laid under a light for a long time. Wife was eaually disappointed too, we both had a craving for the same thing. BTW, not busy either, perhaps 6 people in the whole place. Someone in charge better read this and fix their problems, sad!

David S.

Yelp
On the outside The Sly Fox, in Southern Pines NC, looks like the quintessential English pub, complete with a union jack on the flag pole and a convincing red phone box. I ordered fish, chips & mushy peas, foolishly thinking, what with the phone booth, pictures of the hunt and an English saddle, there's enough Blighty influence to make it a dead cert! Yeah really; if ever there were a lead balloon, this was it. First they tried to pass off garden peas as "Briddish peas" . When I rejected them saying, "these are not mushy peas". "Oh you want mushy peas? she exclaimed condesendingly" I nodded approval. What happened next is beyond belief. They stuck the all American sweat peas into a blender, to pass them off to an English man, as mushy marrowfat peas. Of itself that is bad enough but it's just the tip of the iceberg. Batter scorched on the outside, raw in the middle, means the cook had no clue what temperature to fry fish. The chips looked and tasted, to me like they were fried in exhausted cooking oil and that would corroborate the raw state of the fish batter. Would it have been worthy of complaining and giving them a second chance? No: it takes a blunt instrument to liquidize garden peas and try to pass them off as mushy peas..... TO AN ENGLISH MAN. Give me a break.

Brian S.

Yelp
I found myself back in Southern Pines and a friend suggested we meet at the Sly Fox for dinner. It was a good experience last I was here so of course we came back. Not much had changed, just a couple years older, and thats ok by me. I tried the butter chicken, instead of the lamb malgoba I had last time, with extra sauce it was great!

Bry S.

Yelp
I wouldn't do takeout again but would try dine-in next time. Didn't particularly enjoy the cod, too salty, but my father liked it, no malt vinegar and don't recommend the brussel sprouts; we're not trimmed, and boiled? had maybe an apple smoked or maple cured chewy bacon too? I prefer a charred brussel with seasoning or parm - maybe a drizzle of balsamic; disappointed about those - ordered fish and chips and side of brussel sprouts.

Sharon H.

Yelp
We went for Sunday brunch. The menu was varied and the food and service were excellent.

Grace D.

Yelp
This place has great food and great atmosphere. One room of their space is furnished with couches and armchairs around the tables, a comfy but classy twist. It has a cozy, lodge-like English pub feel. My local friend brought me here when I came into town for a visit. He said there's something on the menu for everyone, and I have to agree. Everything looked good, with options for the picky, the adventurous, and the plant-based. We enjoyed the flaky fish and chips, the lamb burger, bacon-wrapped stuffed dates, and their savory, rich French onion soup. All our food was served piping hot and at the same time - their kitchen knows what they're doing! Their drink menu also has something for everyone. I ordered a cocktail and was served a sour ale instead, but fortunately my unexpected foray into craft brews was also tasty. They have quite the selection of local picks. Despite slight issues with service, I would definitely return here with enthusiasm. I'm already craving the sweet and savory stuffed dates again!

Della R.

Yelp
Sadly the food is disappointing. I'm a Brit and had high hopes I'd be treated to some great British grub but I felt let down. Sausage rolls came out piping hot. Crispy buttery looking pastry ... with a hot dog type sausage inside! Not good and definitely not British. It was supposed to have HP sauce (a British staple) on the side but we got honey mustard instead. Ok ... not a great start but hoped the fish and chips would be better. Wrong! Fish looked great but was over cooked and soggy. I couldn't eat it. Fries tasted old. Hubby ordered Thai shrimp salad. Shrimp was perfectly poached but had zero and I mean zero seasoning on it , not even salt and pepper so it was very bland. A few sliced jalapeños jazzed the actual salad up a bit but at $24 we felt it was overpriced and was not what we expected. Our waitress was very nice and patient with me while I was deciding on what to drink. She was equally so when I said I couldn't eat my meal and offered several times to have it remade or get me something else but with 3 disappointing food items, I declined. The manager came out and offered the same but I was done. We won't eat here again and sadly I can't recommend based on our experience.

Andi D.

Yelp
We were served by Hannah, a lovely young woman with a bright smile and kind words. I had looked at the menu ahead of time and I wanted the scotch egg, but Hannah suggested the devils on horseback, and boy was she right! They were delicious. Then I had the fish & chips which was a credit to its origins - I closed my eyes and thought about England. I'm waiting on coffee and desert to come out, but I am sure it will be just as delicious. My friends got the pork shank and rib eye - I tried a little of both and the potatoes were the star for me. I wish I was local because I would come back too often. Sigh, I sure wish there was a Sly Fox in VA!

Mike H.

Yelp
This food was awful!!! I would not recommend this place. We could barely eat it and the server didn't even notice. $90 for 4 meals on top of that!

R. G.

Yelp
Was a semi regular until last night. Made a reservation for the back room on the left from the main entrance as the bar/main area is always noisy. When I arrived they tried to seat us in the main area , I said no I asked for the back room. While we waited for a table to be cleaned we saw a musician setting up. I told my friend I'm glad we are in the back. It didn't matter , we were exposed to the loudest music possible, it was terrible. Two couples seated in the bar area came back to our room because of the noise. To top off a lousy night our food was very salty and cold. Bye bye Sly Fox for good you lost two customers and more after I tell my friends. There are plenty of better choices in Southern Pines.

Jackie T.

Yelp
Love their Shepherd's Pie and Devils on Horseback! The mac & cheese is amazing too - totally unhealthy and delicious

Xrsizer4u J.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, great food and very good service! Definitely a spot for the Women's US Open crowd.

Neluta G.

Yelp
The Sly fox not so Sly....... Horrible service, cold vegetable soup, overcooked shrimp, the fish that was part of fish and chips was also overcooked. French fries were soggy. Everything was very salty..... I guess a good place to go for drinks but not for food.

Nadia V.

Yelp
For the price, I expected better. The steak was meh. The potatoes that came with it were bland and the spinach was just gross. The place is super cute and I love the aesthetic but I could've made a better dinner at home. Service is super friendly. Love the place but the food isn't great.
