The Spots of Summer, Portland Edition - Portland, OR - The Infatuation

"If you’re hitting the Moda Center for Barry Manilow or Wu-Tang Clan (both playing in July), a pre-game visit to The Smokin’ Oak cart, a short walk away, is a must. At least a pound of sliced beef brisket to share is non-negotiable, as is a stop at the pod bar for a Peachcolada cider pitcher before heading to the rooftop to wax poetic about “C.R.E.A.M.”" - krista garcia

The 20 Best Food Carts In Portland - Portland, OR - The Infatuation

"In a reverse commute, this Vancouver, Washington restaurant brings traditional Texas-style beef brisket smoked low and slow over 100% white oak to the Cartside Food Carts near the Moda Center. Brisket is available by the pound, and you want a mix of sliced lean and fatty beef that’s just jiggly enough to cut with a fork. The cart also serves smoked chicken, pork ribs, and our pick: pulled pork with carnitas-like charred ends, paired with white bread and pickles. Mac and cheese can seem too heavy as a BBQ side, but Smokin’ Oak’s version is so luscious it’s worth risking precious stomach space. On a rare sunny day, order a refreshing Old Town Brewing pilsner (or a bottle of Big Red soda) from the indoor sports bar and head up to the rooftop seating for a view of the Willamette River." - krista garcia

The Best New Restaurants and Food Carts in Portland, March 2025

"This Rose City outpost of the Vancouver, Washington barbecue staple opened at Cartside Food Carts on North Williams Avenue in September. Here, you can expect the same quality Central Texas barbecue that’s rarer to find in Portland, including plates like the “Texas Trinity” with sliced brisket, spare ribs, and sausage served alongside two sides (white bread slices, pickles, and onions are available upon request). A step-up order, the “Smoke Stack,” adds pulled pork. Diners not in the mood for a tray of ‘cue can go with fatty brisket sandwiches, nachos topped with brisket or pulled pork, and Frito pie; vegetarian diners will have access to things like buffalo cauliflower, a smoked beet salad, and a smoked portobello mushroom sandwich." - Paolo Bicchieri

Google
We were looking for something that sounded interesting for lunch to try out and decided to check this place out. We ordered a little bit of almost everything. The food was decent. The brisket was done nicely and the pulled pork wasn't too wet or soggy, which I like. The smoked sausage could use a bit more flavor. The mac and cheese was great. The person working there was friendly and got our food out to us in a reasonable time.

Google
Smoked brisket sandwich and the Mac and cheese were phenomenal. Every time I've tried to eat at their food carts they've been sold out and now I know why. Early bird gets the brisket....get some!

Google
The 1/2 lb. brisket was super delicious and reasonably priced at $17. I also ordered amazing Mac & Cheese for $5. While this is a food truck, they have a full bar with rotating ciders and IPA's on tab with Sportsball on the T.V.

Google
Best BBQ in Portland/Vancouver! The brisket and pulled pork are luscious and great for lunch or dinner. Get the mac and potato salad, thank me later. Service is very friendly and super fast! Patrick, who runs the cart in Portland, loves his work and it really shines in the food. We are so excited for them to cater our wedding later this month!

Google

Google
It's one of the best bbq around! Anytime we go to the moda center, my wife and I share an entree. The portions are huge! I would highly recommend stopping here if you're nearby! We love the pulled pork and macaroni, but everything is so good there!

Google
I’m from Austin, & this place is just “meh” Any brisket that requires bbq sauce is average at best. The Cole slaw was cabbage & mayo, period. Blahhh. Dear Smokin’ Oaks: Try a little seasoning, SOME SALT & PEPPER WOULD BE A GOOD START!

Google
When I say that they had the BEST mac and cheese I’ve had in a while. Most restaurants/ food truck mac and cheese doesn’t have a good taste. I was so shocked when I tasted the mac here. So much flavor and cheese. The noodles were cooked perfectly. To all my soul food lovers, you have to try their mac and cheese. They will also let you try a sample of it. The guy who took my order was very nice and pleasant. I highly recommend this restaurant/ food truck… I will definitely be going back when I’m in town. It was soo good that i forgot to take a picture to share with everyone. Lol

Yelp
It's great, and near my home. I love it because: --smoked brisket is perhaps my favorite food on earth --good service --great smoky atmosphere --even the drinks are smoky --consistently good

Yelp
I'm a sucker for BBQ, so I went to this pod specifically to try this place. It was solid. Overall, like the pod a lot, it's nice to have drink options and the seating is great inside and outside. Great pre-game spot to check out. The sandwich was decent, I could have gone for more sauce on it, but the meat was great and the onion and pickle sides were a good addition. I'd go back.

Yelp
Foolishly I initially missed this food cart and ordered from another spot before I noticed it tucked back against the wall. Fortunately, my kiddo ordered what can only be described as BANGIN mac and cheese and let me taste some of its amazing-ness. I was heartbroken that I had ordered from somewhere else and was going to cancel my order to try more of their smokin offerings, but alas, my order came up before I could. I can't wait to go back and sample more of their menu!

Yelp
The bbq quality here is flat out amazing. The fatty brisket melted in your mouth and the ribs were perfection personified .these guys know their bbq. For me they rank in the top 3 EVER. That saying something .

Yelp
Stopped here for lunch with the wife. They have a location in Vancouver that has some great reviews so we wanted to give the food truck location a try. The cart is located in a pod called The Garden...it is small pod but good seating and a full bar and beer available. The BBQ is decent.. but really lacked in flavor (smoke and seasoning). We ordered and shared a 1/2 lb of brisket and two pork ribs. Sides were Mac and cheese, potato salad and jalapeño beans. Both the potato salad and beans were very good...Mac and cheese was decent as well. Overall I think the sides outshined the meats...but this was a slightly above average bbq spot.

Yelp
The brisket is one of the best things I've ever put in my mouth!!! Love, love, love this cart!

Joey F.

Yelp
What an amazing addition to Cartside! It's so awesome to be able to get amazing BBQ right before a show or a game at the Rose Quarter!

Hannah F.

Yelp
I'm so happy a second location opened up! The food is beautiful, the prices are great and did I mention how friendly the staff is?? Couldn't ask for more! Except maybe some brisket bisquits and gravy with hand maid sausage on Sundays! Oh wait! they do!! Make sure you don't miss them before the sell out! Come early, eat well!

Athena S.

Yelp
I ordered brisket slices and the pork ribs and coleslaw from the smoking oak food cart. Let me just say that was some of the best brisket and spare ribs that I have ever eaten. I would recommend this to all my friends and family that love brisket as much as I do. thank you for providing such good food and excellent customer service

Yelp
The food was amazing! The meat is juicy, tender, and so flavorful. Every bite transports you to the south, with such a wonderful balance of smoke, salt, spice, pepper. Such a simplicity done RIGHT. Service was quick, very friendly staff, knowledgeable in their craft. 10/10, best place to go prior to ANY event at the Moda, or just whenever you need your BBQ fix south of the Columbia. A must try!

Gerald H.

Yelp
Super friendly, quick, fresh and cheap for the quantity I got. I ordered the brisket mac n cheese and expected a small cup with a few tiny pieces of brisket. No no no, they LOAD it with brisket. Hands down best loaded mac n cheese I've had. Ate it to fast to get a picture.

Yelp
Amazing brisket and ribs. All around great food and friendly service. Not your average food truck, glad to see them in PDX. Go to their Vancouver location you won't be disappointed.
