Nestled in Pacific Heights, this chic spot serves up modern California comfort food and inventive cocktails, making it perfect for casual gatherings or date nights.
"Drink: Baller Margarita There are two margaritas on the menu at The Snug: a nitro margarita and a Baller Margarita. The nitro comes out of a keg and gains some creaminess from the addition of the nitrogen, but it also has a bit of a metallic taste in return. But it’s the somewhat embarrassingly named Baller Margarita you’ll want to order—it features a combination of El Tesoro reposado tequila, Fortaleza blanco tequila, and saline. While we’re unsure if the saline actually does anything, the end result is a highly sippable margarita that’s a little more complex than your average drink. " - ricky rodriguez
"There’s probably no better place to grab a cocktail in the neighborhood than at this cozy bar, open since 2017 on the corner of Clay and Fillmore streets. Order from the classics menu for options like a daiquiri or a highball or go for something fresh off the signatures list — perhaps a Sakura made with Japanese whiskey, cherry blossom, basil eau de vie, pink peppercorn, and yuzu. For a light snack, there are tater tots, nachos, and crispy Brussels sprouts though a smash burger and fried chicken sandwich stand up as full meals." - Lauren Saria
"Contrary to what you might expect from the name, The Snug is not ski lodge-themed. You won’t find a fire, warm blankets, or taxidermied elk inside. What The Snug is is a great spot in the Fillmore, and one that will work the next time you’re meeting up with someone you could potentially become romantically linked with. This place is big, busy, and “snug” in the sense that you can count on being elbow-to-elbow with other humans. So try to grab a seat in the cozy nook area (probably the “snuggest” thing here), and order from a menu of cocktails, wine, and snacks." - lani conway, ricky rodriguez, julia chen 1
"The Snug has been a popular spot since opening in 2017, known for its cozy ambiance and quality drinks. It recently underwent a light remodel, adding new decor, expanded business hours, and a reservation system. The new bar manager, Maxwell Salvati, introduced an ambitious cocktail menu with over 20 new drinks featuring unique ingredients. Highlights include the Tanghulu, the Buzz Button, and the Monk on Holiday. The Snug also boasts a collection of over 200 whiskeys and plans to introduce a special 'Baller Menu.'" - Becky Duffett
"Cross a cozy library and a mid-century modern ski lodge, and you have The Snug. The Pacific Heights bar is not that snug—it’s a two-level space with ample seating, funky geometric nooks, and a sizable sidewalk parklet. So no need to worry about smelling your neighbor’s breath or getting elbowed in the cheek at the bar. The cocktails are also excellent, like the deceivingly strong paloma slushy and a nitrogen-carbonated margarita. And above-average bar food, ranging from tater tots to popcorn chicken to double smash cheeseburgers, is here if you need sustenance. Post up at a bar stool on the second floor, so you can try to read the lips of the low-stakes first dates happening down below." - Julia Chen
