The 14 Best Restaurants In Manchester - Manchester - The Infatuation

"Located in a disused railway arch in Cheetham Hill, this independent continental pasta restaurant run by a Polish sake enthusiast is the kind of strangely wondrous restaurant that shows you where Manchester’s creative energies are at. Dim lighting and walnut furniture give The Spärrows an olde-worlde, rustic charm, and while the spätzle that gives the restaurant its name (the Austrian pasta means ‘little sparrow’ in German) are excellent, a completely unassuming plate of gnocchi in sage and butter steals the show. Ordering a glass of sake alongside, and saving room for dessert is advised. There’s a silky panna cotta, poised in its bergamot tea infusion, and the best spätzle dish on the menu: a sweet version, bathed in cinnamon, butter, and brown sugar." - joel hart

"Nestled under the railway arches in Manchester’s Green Quarter is this somewhat hidden restaurant where you have to ring a bell to enter. Its name is (almost) the English translation of the word ‘spätzle’ – which gives some clue as to the style of food on offer here. An assortment of dumplings and pastas are made in-house, from gnocchi to pelmeni via some excellent pierogi, with bright, fresh salads on hand to balance out the carbs. There's a bottle shop attached for you take something home, while the wine list favours smaller producers – surprisingly, there's a sake selection too." - Michelin Inspector

Food here is lovely. The staff here are really lovely as well. Our family are really glad to have come here to dine in celebrating my brother’s graduation. What was surprising is that one of the staff gave us a small cup of wine on the house for us to celebrate my brother’s convocation! That was so nice of them to do so. All in all, my family were really happy to be here and would love to visit again whenever we come back to Manchester.

I had many of my friends recommending this place, and when we finally tried it for my birthday - it exceeded all expectations! The service was amazing, very helpful and welcoming. The food was unreal, very unique menu with lots of things to try. We tried a fair few dishes as recommended and I’m still thinking about their pastas dishes. I would like to say a huge thank you to the staff for making my birthday so special.

Fantastic modern continental restaurant, great place to get a meal for any reason! Great produce used, amazing dish and drink explanations, combined with great service. Have gone many times, would definitely go again!

It has been an overall good experience and the food is of good standards with a decent service and a buzzing atmosphere. There are clearly positive considerations about the Sparrows but it is important to be objective on the offering. Personally I have found the cost of the sharing platters very punchy - £17 pounds for the speck and £18 for the cheeses - as per picture the size is deceiving, especially for the cheese board. I do agree on the tastefulness of the cheese but sharing is a euphemism. On the main courses, the pasta was nice and the sauces are balanced. For those that have been to good quality European restaurants though, especially Italian and Mediterranean, the comparison is not straight forward. Personally I liked the concept and set up, post industrial location is quite nice, but value for money lacks for me the strength to support the price point. Obviously, I suppose it boils down to what you are used to and what you consider value. Please also be aware that when the restaurant is busy, the noice level might require engagement of tenor voice 😀

Greeted by a friendly host who took our jackets. The food we ordered was all delicious with the spatzle being a highlight. Only complaint would be that both of the wines we initially wanted were not in stock.

This was an amazing experience. We went to celebrate 🥳 my brothers birthday dinner at this place. I was not sure about the place as we could enter the place only through a small door in a wall. Usually you have a very welcoming entrance for places with such good experiences. The dinner began with a great story of how this place started and what all people are chefs and staff. A great history lesson was followed by an extremely good dinner as you can see in the pictures. I would recommend their butter sage pasta, pork sausage 🌭 and pennacotta. I totally recommend this place if you are looking for authentic Italian, Polish and Austrian experience.

Overrated - am curious how do they get on Michelin and UK Top 100?! Unprofessional staff - do they know how to open a bottle of wine? Or even serve a table? Still get Two-star review as the Gnocchi and Pelmeni are good. For the rest, thanks but no thanks.

This was such a cool little restaurant situated in a railway arch. It was really buzzing when we entered and had a great atmosphere. We had to wait a few mins for our table to be ready and then sat down to work out the menu - there was lots to choose from! They advised us to order approx 3 dishes per person and then they chose the order that the dishes came out, which was a great idea. No one took our food order for 30 mins, which we did unfortunately think was a bit slow, especially as we were really hungry! Our waitress then didn’t really notice this and seemed to take everything pretty slowly, so we didn’t leave until pretty late that evening. The slow pace aside, the food that we ordered was absolutely superb and we would recommend a visit for some exquisite pasta/dumplings. Some particular food shout outs - the ravioli special was insane, the gnocchi with wild garlic and burrata was to die for and the spätzle was super. We also enjoyed our cocktails and the wine choices fab too.
